Good news! I figured out how to get UBS on Spotify! If anyone would like to listen to a 2015 podcast, here ya go.

As a note, some elements of my hosted files had issues, so if there's any episodes that you notice are missing or you can't get playing, feel free to shoot me a message and I can fix it up fast. I think I resolved the HOTD S1 episodes, but I haven't been able to go through everything with a fine-toothed comb.

And maybe...stay tuned for something in the feed soon? Mayhaps?

Good news! I dug into this a bit and I believe figured out the issue. The enclosure links had become corrupt. My own podcast app allows me to update RSS feed info, so if you do so, I believe that should resolve it.

Even better news; my kids' nap times are maybe finally beginning to align. Fingers crossed.

Hey, I finally watched HotD S1 (mainly to be able to listen to UBS) and was surprised that I liked it and then relieved you liked it, too. And it’s not just that I lost my critical thinking ability over the years.

But the main reason I am writing: It seems most of the UBS episodes are broken. I‘ve tried on Apple Podcasts and directly on The Fandomentals, but episodes 3,5,6,7 don’t work. I hope that can be fixed! 😭

I'll do what I can to look into it. I can get it working on an Android podcast app, so the RSS feed is at least intact...may be an issue of needing to repost some files? It could take a bit since I'd have to dig up a very old external hard drive.

The best I can do otherwise is that they're all uploaded to Archive here: https://archive.org/details/@unabashedbooksnobbery/uploads

I 'm sorry but i don't understand your fascination with Arianne Martell, i really don't. She's not "dutiful princess", she's a selfish brat who risked everyone else in her bid for power, put an innocent child in danger and got an innocent man killed. If she were a man you wouldn't hesitate to call her out. Ironically, she proves why it is that women don't wield power in the rest of seven Kingdoms. She literally freezes up when the time comes to act, her failure to order Arys Oakheart to stand down results in his death. You say she refuses to be infantilised but i find it impossible for her to be infantilised any further.

Idk what to tell you. Yeah, good job dude, that's a very common reading of her. If you actually want to know of what I see in her then I suggest our reread project that was really when we all first were like "oh wow this character is legit and look at this intentionality with which Martin penned her and her father":

If none of that is compelling, than okay; I'm not really invested in arguing the case at this point.

I'm not sure exactly why you sent this to me in Twenty-Twenty-Four, but when I poison my feast guests, I don't try and call their attention towards something that would obviously seem wrong.

yall planning to do more UBS for HOTDS2?

It's funny--Caroline, Julia, and I are discussing that right now.

The short answer is "yes"; I'm still quite interested in this show, appreciate the discussions we had around season 1, and think it would be fun and fruitful.

The longer answer is "I just pushed out another kid less than 2 weeks ago and recording/editing logistics are a nightmare so it may be impossible to commit to doing this as the season airs." Basically we'd do it after the season concludes when schedules could line up/weekend recordings wouldn't lead to rushed editing jobs/babies theoretically sleep longer.

So...let's say "yes", but let's write it in pencil?

In the years since GOT ended, has your opinion on the series/its place in the culture changed at all?

Not since it's ended, no. I think the biggest shift happened pre and post s8 where beforehand it seemed like it'd continue to be this cultural touchstone, and afterwards we saw it basically has no rewatchability or need to re-engage with it.

Who's out there like "yeah I can't wait to show this to my kids one day so they can watch Jaime and Euron fight to the death!", you know? Even if someone attempted it, it'd have to feel so hollow. What's anyone to think about things like the scene where the White Walkers turn Craster's baby when it all amounted to nothing?

It's essentially dropped out of conversations completely other than being brought up as the worst example of a series ending and bad writing, and I think that's how it should stay.

Some clarifications about the latest UBS episode- Daeron has been included in HoTd. Martin has written about that on his blog and you can also see his bloodline in the S1 intro- there are 4 bloodlines coming out of Alicent's icon.

Ah good. Not that I know anything about his part to play, but based on Julia, Caroline, and Gretchen's mumblings, it seemed important. This also seems to be a rather comprehensive show

Couple clarifications/corrections on episode 10: Rhaenyra's child Visenya was shown to have dragon-like features from a behind the scenes clip where they showed the doll they used, but it couldn't be fully seen in the lighting. And yeah, in episode 4, Rhaenyra was at Storm's End which at that time was ruled by Borros's father Boremund.

BORROS, SON OF BOREMUND! Sorry, but those are awesome dwarvish names.

That's really interesting, though I hate they went with that element of the stillbirth, tbh. Frankly the whole thing was so difficult for me to look at, which I imagine was half the point. Being half a year postpartum feels like bupkis.
