there's something so cruel about dongsik knowing he could have saved minjeong if he only reported/called the authorities after he found minjeong's severed fingers at the kang household, knowing he could have minjeong beside him, alive and breathing, minjeong who took he care of since she was small, to whom he acts as her mother and half the father jinmook couldnt be, knowing he was one step closer from that goddamn pot crock that jinmook hid below a cement step to dig up and maybe minjeong could not have breathed her last breath and maybe he couldve planned it differently. but he didnt report the fingers. he didnt call the police or the ambulance to search the whole house because the severed fingers is similar to yuyeon's on that cemented garden box and that's his only clue. leaving his quickly made plan to expose who is this killer that hurt minjeong, that had possibly hurt yuyeon as well, to play out was his only shot to finally know the truth about his sister's demise, only for jinmook to not be the one who actually killed yuyeon and maybe dongsik thought for a while how useless it was to let minjeong die when jinmook wasnt the only one who was at fault, when he was only a small part of a bigger crime that hurt his sister and maybe that'll haunt dongsik for so long, he might move on but it'll haunt him at the back of his mind, it'll come back and come back, another repeated cycle of what ifs and if onlys that plays in his mind and more than that, it'll haunt him knowing his decision will not change when given the chance to change it, that he will still move the fingers, that he will live with the fact that he could have saved minjeong but he wouldnt, but he couldnt because he finally have a shot in finding yuyeon because of minjeong.

its so cruel for fate to make him lose two of the women in his life whom he loves dearly. what a cruel thing to happen to him.

I genuinely believe Naksu haunts the narrative. Her actions and existence as Naksu heavily impact the entire story. Her past, the life she lived and the shadow of it in Mudeok. But we don't actually know any of it because Naksu is not in the story.

Like. What she lost as Cho Yeong is something that we are never allowed to forget, the loss of her body, her powers, her freedom, and her impending death as a soul shifter hangs over Mudeok's head like guillotine.

All the while we don't actually know the Shadow Assassin Naksu, she died in the first episode, as soon as the story began. Other than training and killing (soul shifters) what kind of person was she when she didn't have to rely on another person else or hide or live as someone else? We don't know and we don't ever learn any of that.

Still, her absence is the plot, yet her former existence as Naksu influences everything; Yul's actions and what she was to him, Jang Uk's goal of returning her powers, the revelation of soul shifters to Park Jin, Jang Gang's departure, Jin Mu's accomplishments, the King's Star even.

Everything is about her existence but she doesn't actually exist at all anymore.
