Revisiting "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" (2000): A Review
“Inside a snowflake, like the one on your sleeve, there happened a story, you must see to believe.” This whimsical quote narrated by Sir Anthony Hopkins opens the world of How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) directed by Ron Howard and based on the beloved book by Dr. Seuss. The film brings to life the story of the Grinch (Jim Carrey), a Christmas-loathing character who plans to steal Christmas…

Movie: This stupid body paint is uncomfortable.
Copper: Imagine how bad it must've been for poor Jim Carrey.
Movie: That's not a fair comparison. He's a consummate professional, and I review movies on Tumblr.
Copper: Well, you're at least trying your best.
Movie: Stop being so optimistic about everything!
Copper: Nah.

That Feeling When Christmas Is Today
I watched The Grinch.
...I feel like I should review it, but what more can you say about The Grinch?
Tumblr media
It's always a bit weird going back to the classic cartoon after so many years. I feel like the character of "The Grinch" has taken on a life of its own in pop culture. Nowadays people honestly think the Ron Howard version is not only good, but the default. We call those people "threats to the safety of mankind"
But really, I think the prevalence of remakes and the general commercialization of the story has really changed how we look at the Grinch. One day he's a stupid millennial icon who has impact font memes made to show how hashtag relatable he is. The next day he's blue for some reason.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is a cultural idea of a Grinch. Some kind of abstraction, but it's tangentially related to the original short (and not at all related to the original book at this point).
Which is why watching the original shirt is kinda refreshing. You remember this is a Chuck Jones piece, and it's essentially just a 30 minute long Looney Tune. Genuinely just a fun cartoon that just so happens to be a Christmas classic.
Tumblr media
Now I could go on, but there's a limit to how much you should be allowed to post on Christmas before they have to call someone.
Merry Christmas everyone!
9/10

TRACK REVIEW: cindy lou who - Sabrina Carpenter
★★★★★ - 5 stars
"There's red and green everywhere but I'm so blue, Cindy Lou Who"
Tumblr media
Sabrina Carpenter's holiday themed EP, fruitcake, contains original stories of love and heartbreak, alongside a cover of Christmas classic, White Christmas. However, what is arguably the pinnacle of the whole six track collection, is Sabrina's somber song expressing the pain of heartbreak during such a cheerful time: cindy lou who. Imagery of Christmas, a time of joy and happiness, contrasts the theme of heartbreak and sorrow that flows throughout the lyrics. During the song, Cindy Lou Who, the heroine of Dr Seuss' timeless tale, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, represents the girl who has healed (and stolen) the heart of the boy she loved. The slow piano and violin set the melancholy mood of this tale of heartbreak, accompanying Sabrina's soulful and angelic vocals. A bittersweet reminder of the loneliness the holiday season can bring to many, cindy lou who is a beautifully heart-wrenching song to listen to this holiday season.

Grinchmas Sminchmas – You Can’t Steal Christmas
The review praises the 2000 film "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," directed by Ron Howard, for its detailed character development and world-building compared to the 1966 animated film.
Yesterday I watched the 1966 animated classic, so I figured I’d watch the 2000, Ron Howard directed film, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” today. If you read my previous Grinch review, then you know that I love the Grinch as a character. There are many arguments over which Grinch movie is the best, and in my opinion it’s this one. Whereas the animated 60s film is virtually a word for word…

Dr. Suess’ "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is Getting a Sequel!
Fans of Dr. Suess’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” are getting an early Christmas surprise with a sequel to the popular children’s book.  How the Grinch Stole Christmas Gets a Sequel The 1957 classic book will be seeing an unlikely sequel that will take place one year after the original book. Just like the first book, it will also teach a lesson and share the true meaning of the holidays. The…

Note
I think the problem with the trees side plot isn't even necessarily that it's not Christmas anymore, though that is definitely a factor, but moreso the fact that it feels like they lack a real purpose.
Let's compare it to the concert; The musical talents crew decided to set up a Christmas concert, meaning there will be an event or party of sorts with a lot of characters once everything's set up. This later spiralled into a dance competition which in itself turned unto the brainwashing music plotline due to the Ego suits being thrown around.
But for the trees? Kana wants to set up Christmas trees around the voidship.. Then what? What purpose does having the trees up serve a anything other than decorations that we can't even see most of the time? What does doing so lead to in the storyline? The Voids + Kokichi wanting to call Review anon to burst her bubble doesn't count because that's a consequence, not something Kana intended to happen when doing this in the first place.
This makes it so that we as the audence don't feel as inclined to engage because we don't see why we should feel invested in this part of the story.
-Critic anon
//Thank you for your feedback.
//I think the problem was since I didn't know what to have plotwise for the Christmas Arc at first and thought a key point would be decorating the Voidship, but as you mentioned since its an askblog you can't even see them half the time.
//Didn't help it was the first plot point I thought of long before everything has occurred.
//And you are right that people are more invested in the Concert because that was gonna be a gathering and people would be invested due to the character interactions that would occur, especially when the dancing competition got involved and what entitled from that.
//The Concert was gonna have a dance competition, which meant prizes and interactions, then because of Ego Suits being things that went pear shaped but all made senses because in a way the Natsumi situation was foreshadowing about Ego Weapons/Suits and the fact they possess the properites of the abnormalities, some of which we had seen around.
//Plus Kaede and Ibuki fighting the Slient Orchestra was foreshadowing that putting an Ego Suit based off their remains was only gonna spell trouble...and it did.
//If anything is to blame its sunk cost fallacy, as I invested enough time into it that I wanted to see through the end, no matter what, rather then either cut my losses or figured out some way to get people interested other then "And then Voidship is Christmas themed*
//But don't worry this is why when we get back tomorrow, I'm gonna skip a lot of the decorations and focus on the stuff that people care about.
