Itaewon Class (2020)

Is this a good show? Yes. Did I get bored in the middle and stop watching it? Also yes.

The Good

The cast is amazing. Park Seo-joon acts his stoic little heart out as this working class hero hellbent on revenge against these upper class bastards who killed his dad. Ahn Bo-hyun plays this entitled rich kid in a way that seems real and interesting, while still being contemptible. Yoo Jae-myung plays the worst CEO villain ever. And Kim Da-mi does an amazing job playing a damaged love interest who is maybe the most fascinating character in the show.

The Bad

The show sags in the middle. The "business rivalry" plotline doesn't make sense, is never explained, and seems to just throw up obstacles that we don't care about in order to make the show last longer. The CEO villain goes from greedy corporate baddy to potential serial killer type baddy, and the acting for that was good, but I wasn't sure where they were going with that. Which is kind of why I stopped watching.

The Ugly

The show's heart is in the right place for some of the issues it wants to talk about: Black Koreans (they exist!), Trans people (they exist too!), class divides (they're real, and you can't just work harder to get past them), but the execution sometimes didn't work for me. And that's okay I guess.

TL; DR:

This show is a good revenge show that kind of lost its place in the middle. It's worth a shot just because the cast is so cool, but don't feel bad if you can't finish it.

#elden ring #miquella the unalloyed #promised consort radahn #I’ve been thinking about how despite all the talk of age of compassion… Miquella’s first spell as a god is an offensive incantation #with a wide af damage radius 💀💀💀#meanwhile Marika who built her age upon violence… her spells are all healing and defense buffs #and her first spell as a God is a little tree that heals a wide area #she was still trying to heal her ppl to the bitter end AND gunning for revenge. there’s a kind of heartbreaking honesty to it #the cruel irony in the DLC story is crazy #really show how badly Miq had strayed from his original path after forsaking Trina #then that meme pops in my head ajshsjhsjhs #now i do think the vow is two-way btw Radahn just got cold feet near the end #the only thing i dont like about the DLC is i cant draw jokes without explaining I LOVE THESE CHARACTERS i think their actions are valid !!#like having to pull up a whole lore presentation slide for this #yes i think it's funny as hell that Miq did show Radahn why he should not fuck around and find out

They get co-torture credits here.#Your favourite character is responsible for several horrible tortures and murders.#Was it justified? Honestly I don't think so. I think it very much needs to be over-the-top-violent to show how WWX has changed.#It was excessive force to satiate his need for revenge. WWX is consistently demonstrating how he feels justified in his actions #Up until now they have been for relatively noble causes.
