Retro Licca repro GET!!!!

The box from Amazon Japan arrived super squashed so I feared the worst but she was fine! Even the doll box was ok with just a bit of scuff on one corner 🥹

So I immediately pulled out that lot of vintage Vogue dresses I thrifted a couple years ago to see what would go on her :3 I wouldn't claim that any of these fit, but they will go on and look ok if I pin them up tighter in the back.

I am not at all knowledgeable about Licca. I do follow a whole lot of vintage doll lovers on IG though so I have certainly dipped a toe into longing for older Liccas and Peteenas and Wataru etc.!

I got her from Amazon Japan directly, shipping to the US was offered for a reasonable amount and I grabbed it with both hands. It took a little over a week to arrive.

This set is the Lori doll cafe. I loved it from the moment I set eyes on it years ago and bought it despite not really having dolls that fit. I had to dig it out of my closet and dust the hell out of it for this 🥲 I'm so happy I kept it. It's still under-scaled but works for photographs for me.

Takara Tomy (toy company) is 100 years old this year. They are celebrating it with various anniversary releases of dolls, cars, figures, etc. One of those is a Licca doll.

When they came up for sale, I grabbed two. My plan was to keep one as is for display, and the other to be rebodied, redressed, and have fun. I'm just not a fan of the noodle bodies. They came last night, and are as cute as I'd hoped.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe... which of your bodies is going to go?

The little shelf queen will live here, until I figure out a better spot. This is what you grow up to be, Licca.

I wanted to put the other on an Azone PNXS body I have. If the outfit fits, because I love the dress.

A little short, but not horrible. I also like that the slightly longer neck makes her look just a bit older. Not a lot, but not little girl anymore.

I combed her hair to get the gel out and think she is lovely. She can't wear the shoes she came with, but I can get new ones easily. I'll also get new stockings because these mesh ones don't like the ankle joints and I don't want to ruin them.

Because of her orange lip and citrus theme dress, I've decided to call her Clementine.

My TV-head custom got her Retro Licca inspired dress! It's messy and wonky, made from fabric scraps and Easter ribbon, but I'm recovering from a bug and needed a low effort hand-sewable project.

Out of box, the 100th Anniversary retro Licca chan doll feels significantly weightier in hand, which makes sense as her lips are solid vinyl rather than hollow limbs like vintage Licca chan.

It's also amazing how adding hip and shoulder rotation really brings life to a vintage sculpt that couldn't do either, plus a neck tilt is so darling, I can see why Licca fans are doing that so often with their ones.

The dress is made from a medium cotton drill fabric with a custom printed middle panel and almost sheer white piece on top. I have no idea if this is based on a vintage dress from Licca's archive but it definitely feels like a 1967 dress.

Her mesh socks are odd but they definitely feel like somerhing you'd see on a late 60s doll, and something that wouldn't have survived to this day so it's fun in that regard.

I also adore how they approached doing her hair bows this time around as theyre on miniature clear plastic combs that tuck into the hair. The last time they tried to do this accessory they used wire bobby pins that looked out of scale and stuck out weirdly on the head so this feels much more display worthy and significantly more dainty.

As someone who can't afford the lavish prices a vintage Licca chan fetches, I think this reproduction really knocks it out of the ballpark.

i also thought i would post some process pics of going from my concept art to the actual doll with aria so i am gonna post some progress shots and some details below the cut! definitely a huge learning curve for me despite all the doll customizers i have watched but will take those lessons into the future... i am hoping to make signet next :^)

so i started with this licca-chan friend head (i don't know her name at all unfortunately, i thought it was a jenny head initially but it's definitely not) and completely rerooted her with some pink nylon hair... i chose nylon because i wanted to make it wavy but i may have picked saran in retrospect (to make the hair wavy and curl the bangs i had my gf braid the hair and wrap the bangs around a straw, then boil washed it! worked great)

then i repainted! or well, repainted some of her face after wiping off parts w acetone... i was hesitant to use mr super clear because it's quite toxic so i used brush on liquitex matte varnish which i am not going to use in the future because it truly gives no grip for pencils, and you can't use anything waterbased like gouache paint or watercolor pencils.... but i redrew her eyebrows, lips, and added some extra eye shine. i thought the face was the perfect retro anime look as is otherwise

then the accessories! i made her a little headset frankenstined out of two different doll headsets (including a very phallic looking mic part LOL) sculpted over a bit with some air dry clay and painted, and her heart shaped guitar which was entirely built from scratch using air dry clay, cardboard, and some string (you can also see the headset pre-painting). she also has some clear sci fi goggles but those were just a barbie piece i brushed some UV resin with glitter over to make it extra sparkly

the arm was sculpted a bit with air dry clay as well, then painted silver... the gold ended up clashing too much w the outfit hence the color change. i also used dye to dye the joints black because paint would not stay on them

i also switched the arm sides someone despite checking SEVERAL times to make sure it was the right side. directions are not my strong point. aria left handed AU.

and finally the outfit! OH my god this was the part that made me almost quit and made it take so long. i had to figure out the jumpsuit pattern from scratch, and the fabric is stretchy which made trying to get the heart cut out to stay in place impossible. you actually can't put the jumpsuit on her without taking her head and arms off because i decided to have it close at the bottom for Some Reason. the boots were fun though! the bottoms are from a pair of jenny boots that i painted blue and then glue the fabric part on to.

and the jacket. WHY did i decide to work with such a crazy material (for aesthetics). it was essentially just slightly flexible fabric and not very good at draping at all, so there was a lot of frustration trying to attach the collar and shoulder pads (i ended up just using some extra strong clear tape haha). the jacket is literally why i stopped working on this for like 2 months. but i conquered it eventually

and thats the overall process! fun and i have learned my lesson in what kinds of materials to use. excited to work on another project soon :) !!

I've been searching for a nice 8" Oliva doll for about a year now, never quite willing to fork over $40+ for an almost always red-stained piggie. Then tonight I spotted this set and my eyes bugged out a little because it was so nice. I did buy it now immediately, then looked up the set to learn more about it.

Turns out it usually sells for more like $129 so I messaged the seller quickly that I noticed the going price was so much higher and if they needed to cancel the sale and relist it higher I would understand.

But they messaged me back immediately that it was ok she is all mine 😱 Can't believe that. I'm pretty excited.

I was genuinely redoubling my efforts to find this smaller version BECAUSE JOHN tempted me into getting the tiny retro Licca that just came out. And I thought they might go adorably together. 🤞🤞🤞

oh hello hello helloooo! 👋

well, i'm newbie here and it's my very very first blog on internet ever! i don't know how people start their first posts on their blogs, so let me do something cliché: introducing myself!

many people know me with the name "mitsuki yadate" (yes, it's not my legal name but i love using it on the internet). now i'm almost 23 years old and still struggling with the cruelty of the life (i'm a psychiatric r*pe survivor, it's a looooong story).

in middle school, i was into drawing, especially anime/manga drawings and this caused me to graduate from a high school of fine arts. now still seeking a way to grow my business of art but i don't know how to do (nobody taught me it)!

in late 2019, i discovered a turkish social network named "ekşi sözlük (sour dictionary)", after portishead's song "sour times" and then i became an enthusiast of both portishead and ekşi sözlük. now i still love them and they had become reasons to live for me. also, i'm interested on coding thanks to ekşi sözlük.

aside of portishead and ekşi sözlük, i love sloths, licca-chan dolls, vkei (especially mucc, buck-tick and der zibet!), d.gray-man, osamu tezuka (and his works), retro technology and frutiger aero.

to talk about this tumblr blog: it's going to be a personal blog, mostly about my interests, but also sharing stories about my experiences and an exhibition of my artworks.

well.. i don't know how to continue, so i'm finishing typing for now. i hope i can have fun times and make new friends here!
