Panic sail to San Malo
Panic sail to #SanMalo. Woke up at 2am in the morning in a bit of a panic about #quarantine. Evening's entertainment was kind of dire but French seemed strangely welcoming! #Retirementtravel #Retirement #Retiredlife
Woke up on the Portsmouth – San Malo ferry in a bit of a panic. Pathetic really,  it was about 2am and I’d started catastrophising, as you do at the time in the morning, about the quarantine.
We’re due to be away for 21 days then after that we’re going to have to quarantine for 14 days.  It’s far stricter than the original lockdown which at least allowed me to go for a walk or run and do some…

No queuing at Portsmouth is making me sad
No queues at #Portsmorth and threats of reciprocal action from the French make me worried about our trip. At least fellow #60yearold #SimonCowell's actions keep me amused. #France #Quarantine #Retirement #Retirementtravel #Retiredlife
This time last year I vaguely remember waiting to board the ferry to San Malo all grumpy at the queues and how long I was going to have to wait.
Why is it they always seem to let every line board before the one you’re in.
At least then I was looking forward to Brittany Ferries’ a la carte evening meal with its legendary hors d’oeuvre.
This year we’re first in the campervan queue having…

France here we come, despite our doubts
France here we come, despite our doubts. We've carefully weighed things up and we've decided that despite the #quarantine were heading off to #France, never felt more anxious before a holiday though. #Retirement #Retirementtravel #Retiredlife
Should I stay or should I go now, so The Clash song went. We’ve been considering it for the last 24 hours and have finally decided to GO.
With 10,000s rushing to get back last night by train, boat and plane to avoid the 14 day quarantine which started at 4am it’s a tough call. A few things swung our decision to go.
Despite threats, the French are yet to announce any kind of reciprocal…

Quarantine announcement throw our France holiday plans into chaos
We've been booked to go on our annual three-week #holiday to #France since the beginning of the year. Last night's #quarantine announcement has thrown our plans into chaos. #Retirement #Retirementtravel #GrantShapps #Retiredlife
The familiar five notes of BBC Breaking News sounded at around 10pm last night to confirm what I’d been fearing all day.  France, where we’re booked to go on holiday for three weeks from tomorrow, has been added to the Government’s 14-day quarantine list.
There was speculation for most of the day that our nearest neighbours had “done just enough” to avoid the ignominy.
You wonder how many…

Does anyone really enjoy cycling?
Does anyone really enjoy cycling? Bonking ducks keep me awake all night before we give the #LoireVelo cycle route a go. We found this supposedly easy trip surprisingly tough but we'll be back, perhaps! #Retirement #Retiredlife #Retirementtravel
Last night I was kept awake with the noise of ducks doing something that rhymes with their name. I can only assume that’s what they were doing. From the moment my head hit the pillow the noise they made was positively primeval.
I couldn’t help but admire Mr Drake – every 10 minutes or so or just as I was drifting off, he’d start up again.
I wasn’t sure whether Mrs Duck was loving or…
