My thoughts on The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes movie
I donât know if I liked it as much as the original films (maybe Mockingjay 1 & 2 as they are pretty emotionally draining), but I still enjoyed it.
I think where it fell a little flat for me is 1. The beginning was a bit slow (tbh I only really started getting interested when Lucy Gray stuck that snake down that girlâs dress & even then I enjoyed the story more when the setting changed from the Capitol to the district) 2. I knew Snow would survive 3. Iâd already been spoiled online for a lot of stuff that happens & 4. while I know the director did his best to make Snow as âlikeableâ as he could for as long as possible, even before he started getting âa little too comfortableâ with killing & snitching I didnât find him as sympathetic as Katniss or Peeta (but that is probably again down to the fact that I know what he goes onto do & thereâs no real way around that), this made engaging with him difficult for me.
The world is fascinating. Getting to see all the new locations we never had access to before as well as old locations now in a totally different light (for example district 12 which, while still clearly suffering, seemed like such a bustling industrial town compared to how it is in Katnissâs time). It might have a much more retro aesthetic but there's also just a more vibrant, natural, wild & lawless atmosphere to this movie compared to the others in the franchise. The whole scope of the film just felt more cinematic then I remember the others being yet also weirdly intimate. Maybe because it was one contained story & we knew the main characterâs fate from the start. I also loved the title cards signifying the start of each section of the story like from the books & wished they'd done something similar for the other films. It just added a certain flair to the whole thing. Almost gave it the vibe of a tragic play.
The costuming was great. The bright red of the academy uniforms. Flickermanâs snazzy suits. Snowâs dapper black & white outfit. Both peace keeper uniforms (despite one of them giving very â1930âs Germanyâ vibes) looked great. Grandma might have been a bigot, but at least she was well dressed. Everything Dr Gaul wore (except the top that looked like a used tampon, lol) was exquisite. The main ladies of fashion, Tigris & Lucy Gray slayed. Our Future Capitol stylist looked like some regal yet exotic bird & Miss Survivor was giving Bohemian, country girl realness the entire time she was on screen. Even the extras were serving (like that random couple Snow walked past on his way to the reaping ceremony).
The music was amazing. Every song that played was fantastic (shout out to Olivia for her end credit contribution). The lyrics & instrumentation were beautiful & my god does Rachel Zegler have pipes! Anyone who says the singing scenes are cringy is just stupid like Iâm sorry you canât appreciate art. Also, the words âballadâ & âsongbirdsâ are literally in the title. Plus, Lucy Gray is from the poorest district, so what exactly do those people want her to do in her free time? She canât exactly hop on an X-box for a few hours. Not too mention that (as the offspring of someone whoâs musically inclined) I can tell you, itâs completely realistic for a musician to use their craft to help them deal with trauma & Lucy Gray clearly had more than her fair share of that.
The Grandma'am helped to paint a sadly very realistic background for Snow. As who among us hasnât met at least one delusional old person who thinks that their/their groupâs suffering (regardless of the severity of it or the reason behind their former/newer status in society) means that no one else are deserving of even the tiniest shred of humanity & there are some people who are unlucky enough to not only be related to these people but be raised by them.
Hunter schafer as Tigris is clearly the superior Snow when it comes to things like empathy & overall mental stability but I do kind of wish theyâd been more for her to do. Credit where credit is due though her & Tom did actually look like they could be related & I did buy their familial bond (which makes her appearance in Mockingjay so much sadder in hindsight).
Peter Dinklage as Casca Highbottom was a bit of a mix for me just due to his purpose as a character & the limit of film as a form of media. Like sure the audience know that Snowâs going to become an irredeemable monster in the end but without a window into his mind it really does just seem like the Dean is just out to get him & even when we find out why it seems kind of unfair. Like sure his dad sucked but havenât the Games shown that blaming children for violence caused by others is unjust (& like ok he hates Coriolanus & probably the grandma but Tigris hadnât done anything to deserve living in poverty, as she canât control who sheâs related to)? Plus, it felt like he could have at least tried taking Snow under his wing at some point to try to hinder Dr Gualâs influence. Saying all of that, though, Peter Dinklage is great at playing an addict with depression & the idea that some drunken rambling could lead to such long-lasting suffering is terrifying. Also its pretty realistic that living with that kind of guilt & in such a cruel environment for that long would make most people jaded & bitter, even if they did have good intentions.
Omg we finally get a Mayor family on screen & theyâre assholes! Madge would be so disappointed đ. It was interesting to see how harsh & overall âboot lickyâ the mayor & his family seemed compared to decades later, which makes sense as the war wasnât that long ago for them so the dad probably felt more incentive to align himself with the Capitol as well as not feeling very connected to the district people as 12âs decline probably didnât fully set in until they really started running low on coal & Snow became president (oh I just know he wanted to blow that district off the map đ). I also wouldnât put it past Billy to come up with some sob story of how he really does love Mayfair but wicked Lucy Gray is somehow preventing them from being together. Still no excuse to try to send her to her death twice in one week, though. Definitely not a girlâs girl.
Ok, so a liar. Cheat. Drunk & someone who hits women. Is there anything good about Billy Taupe? Also, trying to get your ex back, while your current girlfriend is literally standing right next to you? Dude, have some god damn back bone! You made a choice, now stick to it. Also, fumbling Lucy Gray, for a girl like that? Whatâs it like having no brains or taste? Well, too bad, coz youâre stuck with her forever now, lol.
Viola Davies, the actress that you are. What else is there to say? Dr Gaul is almost comic book levels of insane. Like she is how the Right see women in STEM, on crack! I donât know what she did to get into character, but whatever it was, it worked.
Jason Schwartzman as Lucretius Flickerman is a very interesting addition to the story despite playing such a small & seemingly insignificant role. He is strange in how unthreatening he is while also extremely blasĂ© about the abhorrent violence he witnesses that itâs as funny as it is disturbing. Making him come across as more human yet harsher than his son, who at least pretends to care about the tributes (in a very Capitol way, obviously but still). Thereâs also a polish & confidence to Tucciâs performance that I think Schwartzman did a great job of avoiding copying (despite knowing what audiences were probably expecting) because not only are their characters in entirely different stages of their careers but the whole ethos of the Hunger Games is different in Snowâs youth than it is in Katnissâs. Caesar is a well established presenter & during his time, the games have always been a success (minus the year with the tundra) that the entire Capitol is invested in & seemingly in support of. On the other hand Lucretius had the unique task of not only coming into a job like this with zero experience (I mean imagine going from announcing the weather to presenting the fucking hunger games) but also there were no vibes to try to emulate let alone guidelines to follow because he truly was the first person to do this. On top of that, the "event" his presenting has been panned for years as both boring & unethical. Schwartzman brought a slightly awkward, experimental, yet try hard vibe (like a comedian who's desperate to get a laugh) that I think worked wonderfully for the character.
Tom Blyth's performance was great & he was visually perfect for a young Snow (the power of a good wig! Who knew lol). Even having the cool, analytical stare of Donald Sutherland, down pat. While his appearance was very Eminem during his peacekeeping days, his realisation in the cabin and subsequent breakdown in the woods were crazy. There was so much tension between him & Rachel in that scene that for a second, it literally felt like all the air had been sucked out of the room. I could almost hear the record scratch for both of them, & all that building paranoia finally coming to a sudden crescendo in the way that it did? Pure cinema!
Josh Rivera, as Sejanus, was honestly a mix for me. Obviously, I agree with his morals, but his way of going about it did seem a little dumb. However I do think itâs pretty realistic that a teenager, especially a rich one, would be rather naive. Also Iâve heard that heâs smarter in the book & I think at times my frustration with him is more just down to the fact that Iâm seeing him from Snowâs point of view. Meaning scenes that would be portrayed as noble in any other film instead come across as almost painfully inconvenient because the focus is always on how they affect Snow rather than the actual victims of the situation. Lastly, sorry, Snowjanus shippers, I just donât see it (especially on Snowâs end), but whatever floats your boat.
Rachel Zegler played Lucy Gray with the perfect mix of natural charm & emotional vulnerability with clear pride in her culture & a refusal to let the world around her change who she is. Yet there was also an air of mystery & a subtle resilience to her that makes her potentially surviving out in the woods for years without being detected actually believable (though I donât buy the theory that she went on to become president Coin). Definitely the highlight of the movie for me.
PS. I'd love to know what you think of my review in the comments/tags & am open to criticism (as long as it's respectful) just remember that I'm only talking about the movie so please don't reference anything spersific to the book.

I went to the mall with my bestfriend yesterday, it was soo fun we even went to the book store in there :))
I picked up Matthew Perry's autobiography - Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing
and I was flushed with a wave of nostalgia, sadness and overwhelming love for that man.
Even though I was born three years after friends ended , I still grew up on it and chandler was the one I related to the most ,Infact he was my friend's favourite character and we would talk about chandler a lot or repeat his jokes and that made him even more special to me.
It really feels like we are reading his personal diary as it takes us through his life. There are several pictures in there as well and one of them is of him as a teenager surrounded with a bunch of kids and the caption is -
"I have always been great with kids. Man,I wish I had one of my own"
this just..stayed with me and I think it will stay with me for a while, I miss him. I hope he's in a better place. <3

RIP Shelley Duvall, Faerie Tale Theatre Queen
This obituary may be late to the party, but Iâd be remiss if I didnât pay my respects to the late Shelley Duvall, who left us on July 11, 2024. The news of her passing both shocked and saddened me, as did a good many others who were fans of her film roles and of Faerie Tale Theatre. As someone whoâs spent little over two years reviewing and ranking Faerie Tale Theatre episodes, I can attest toâŠ

Hearing David Lynch describe something as, "So Beautiful," will always hit me deep. What an amazing documentary. It should have been a series for every era of his life. I am so sad he's gone. It truly is such a sadness. My pal Pat and I remarked on how unpretentious David is with his words, and how I just trust what he says as truth. I had never really considered what he thinks of himself so getting a bit of a window into that reminded me to not just see amazing people as legends, that everyone is a full human. He has left creatives so much and his impact can never be measured. Thank you, David. May we all keep the art life.

ăSEVIKA
She was resting at the last drop with you during some downtime in between missions. One hand lingered on your hip whilst her metallic one held onto her cigar, eyes focused on the pocker game she was playing with a couple of Silco's other henchmen. She always kept you close this way, a clear sign of who you belonged to despite never having said a word about it yet. It was a mutual understanding only you could have, and so she didn't think a confession was necessary.
Until today, it seemed.
You were secretly helping her cheat a little and eventually told her the winning move, which earned her a large sum of money. Letting out a smug laugh at everyone's angered and defeated glares, she gave you a lazy grin. "Thanks, sweetheart. This is why I love you." She hummed to you, smoke exhaling from her dark lips, before she froze ever so slightly. Well, it shouldn't be that much of a surprise to either of you, and yet she couldn't help but chuckle at your own stunned face.
Looking at the men around her, she threw some poker chips towards them, clearly asking for another round. She wasn't the type to get flustered or shy anyways, so her moving on like nothing happened was on brand.
The only acknowledgment you got, however, was the hand on your hip tightening.
ăJINX
She has a hard time hiding her feelings for you due to her rather energetic and extremely clingy nature. But there is still a clear distance between you two that she's too scared to cross. It was a deep fear of ruining everything she had with you in case her confession went wrong. She'd rather you consider her your best friend for life if it meant for you to stay at her side. She didn't want to lose more people after all. And yet, as fate has it, she eventually lost herself in a good and happy moment with you.
You were tinkering on some projects in her hideout whilst listening to music. Her head was leaning against your shoulder as her eyes traced your focused gaze. Jinx felt so content and at peace in that moment that she couldn't stop the words that spilled out of her mouth. "I love you." It took her a second to realise what happened, and her body was quick to flinch away from you. You kept her in place, however, with a free hand placed against her head. "Hey, it's okay. I love you too. I'm not leaving." You reassured her quickly with a smile, one that made her heart skip a beat.
She may not see herself as deserving of you, but she's glad to have you at her side anyway. Hopefully forever.
ăCAITLYN
Caitlyn was good at hiding her emotions from you. In fact, she had refused to tell you in fear of breaking the professionalism you two had and, most importantly, your friendship that she cherished deeply. And so, she was very careful not to reveal a single thing... until her confidence betrayed her and caused her to slip up.
You two were reviewing a new case together, and whilst she wasn't paying attention, she accidentally slid you her diary over. It unfortunately looked too similar to her work notebook, something she only realised the moment you opened it and froze in surprise. She may have scribbled your name all over it. She may have childishly drawn hearts around your name. She may have made it awfully clear that she loved you. And it made her wonder if there was a god out there that hated her deeply.
"... My apologies. Please ignore that-" "-Haha, I'm so relieved that I'm not the only one who did this!" You let out a soft laugh before pulling out your notebook and showing her similar pages to her own, just with her name written all over them. Her face was flushed from how flustered and embarrassed she was, but alas, she too couldn't help and chuckle at how silly this all was. At least you felt the same.
ăVI
It's not like she didn't want to confess her feelings to you. She just didn't know how! Her confession should sweep you right off your feet in her mind, and yet nothing she came up with seemed good enough. Vi hoped that her flirting would get the point across, but she lacked the confidence to go any further than compliments. She just didn't want you to think differently of her and therefore kept her distance for the most part regarding the subject. That is if she could keep it in for lobger than she already has. She always felt so strongly about others, after all.
So, during a little hang out session in a bar somewhere in Zaun, she attempted to find the courage to tell you how she felt. Whilst she went off to go and get you a drink first, however, a drunken man showed up at your side and started flirting you in a rather uncomfortable way. You tried making it clear that you weren't interested, but as he went to grab your arm, a hand slammed in between you two onto the bar table. "Hey, I think they told you no, asshole." "Who the hell are you?" The man barked back, yet Vi didn't back down and simply blocked you from his view with her body. "I'm their girlfriend, now fuck off." She hissed, and the man just rolled his eyes before walking off grumbling.
Silence filled the space in between you two until you chuckled softly. "Girlfriend, huh? I like the sound of that." You hummed, secretly trying to ease her embarrassed mind, that quickly recovered at your words with a sly grin. "You do?" You mirrored her smile with a nod. "Very much so. I'm glad we think alike."

MOMENTS WITH YOUR PREGNANT BELLY w/Jujutsu Kaisen Â
( CW ) f!reader, reader is pregnant(duh), tooth-rotting fluff Â
Featuring: Gojo Satoru, Toji Fushiguro, Nanami Kento, Geto SuguruÂ
author's note: short rewrite from my old blog
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/476e84c7f735ff32df9d2d77cbd76ff8/c6783dc4c061e16b-5c/s540x810/cdef2bbef8f713e92c4dfec0d38a6bf0abd912fa.jpg)
⟠GOJO SATORUÂ
"Toru, stop splashing my stomach!" you exclaimed at your playful husband, attempting to push the lukewarm bathwater onto your stomach, inadvertently splashing your face. "But she likes it, look!" he exclaimed with a huge smile as your daughter continued to kick your stomach. "I donât need to look; I can feel it," you rolled your eyes. "Feels like sheâs trying to break my ribs." You let out a little grunt when she kicks a particular spot. Satoru shoots a worried glance at you. "Are you alright?" he asks, rubbing smooth circles on your stomach. "I'm okay; she just keeps kicking the same spot," you gave him a small smile when he leans down to kiss your belly. "Hey now, take it easy on your momma, or no more splashes for you," he mummers to your stomach. As if your daughter understood, she stops and starts gently kicking in another area. "Look, Angel, she listened to me!" he exclaims before pushing more water into your stomach. "Toru! You got water in my nose!"Â
⟠TOJI FUSHIGUROÂ
"Are you okay, beautiful?" Toji inquired, concern evident in his eyes as he observes you holding your stomach with a furrowed expression. "Just a big kick from the baby," you struggle to get out, your stomach contracting. "C'mere--lemme make you feel better, baby," he whispered, sitting up on the headboard of the bed and pulling you between his open legs. "What are you doing, Toji?" You question as your husband reached towards the nightstand to grab something. "Makinâ my girl feel betterâjust lay down and relax," he whispers in your ear before placing a gentle kiss on your shoulder. With the cramps becoming unbearable, you had no other choice but to obey. Eyes squeezed tight, body resting on Tojiâs toned chest, you tense when he starts to gently massage your stomach with what feels like lotion. A moan of relief escaped you involuntarily. "Thatâs right, let me take care of you," he mummers, continuing the soothing massage.Â
⟠NANAMI KENTOÂ
"Are you ready to taste heaven, babies?" Nanami smiles warmly at your stomach as if expecting your unborn twins to give a response. Quickly, he leans down and places two affectionate kisses on your stomach, one for each baby. "C'mon, Kento, âm hungry!" you pout, crossing your arms over your chest. Nanami was supposed to be giving you new food items that he found online, but the more he talks, the more it seems like he's eager for his children to be the taste testers rather than you. "You know they canât actually give you a review, right?" you question your husband, but he ignores your sass and reaches for a plate. "Duh, âcourse I know that, but they're still going to taste it inside of you," he says as if it's the most obvious thing. "Yeah, all mashed up and mixed with a bunch of different foods. Now, give me that plateâIâm hungry!" you insist, reaching out for the plate as your husband laughs.Â
⟠GETO SUGURUÂ
"I donât think they like me," Suguru grumbles, and you laugh as your unborn child tries and fails to kick their father's head off your stomach. "Hell," Suguru yanks his head up and glares at your protruding stomach. "Hey, donât cuss at my baby," you laugh. "I wouldnât have to if my baby wasnât trying to give me a concussion," he rolls his eyes dramatically before rubbing his calloused fingers on your stomach, The baby kicks at his hand. "Don't be so dramatic, Sugu," you roll your eyes at your husband as he continues to tease your child with his hand. "How do you think I feel when theyâre kicking my bladder at three AM?" you laugh. "You better not come out as moody as your mommy," he taunts before pressing a soft kiss on your stomach. "Iâll give you whatever you want when you come out if you let me lay down in peace, deal?" he whispers to your stomach, and all he gets is a harsh kick. "Deserved.â You huff out.Â

OH I was JUST talking to @fuukonomiko about this the other day!
Basically it's my reading of this that Mizu saw themself as the man on the right (who is clean-shaven, more youthful/feminine and softer in appearance, resembling a wakashu, and also more similar in appearance to Mizu themself).
That would then put Taigen in parallel with the man in the middle (who, it's important to note, is a samurai whose skills Mizu had admired and been impressed by, earlier in this same episode; and this is notable because in the episode right before this, Mizu genuinely complimented and admired Taigen's swordsmanship in a similar way).
So in this scene, the samurai (Taigen) turns away from kissing a woman (possibly paralleling Akemi), to instead kiss the man on the right (Mizu).
Seeing this, Mizu is reminded of their own desires and attraction towards Taigen, thus implying that Mizu sees a chance that Taigen would want them the same way that samurai wants the wakashu-like man.
Thus, in conclusion: gay samurais, your honour ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
what did they mean by this?
#they/them for mizu in this post because i can hee hee#to answer your question in the tags OP: mizu and taigen are yaoi-adjacent and this scene is proof. thank you i rest my case#im only half joking btw#also feel free to disagree. this is only my own interpretation. peace and love âđ»#blue eye samurai#fandom.rtf#taimizu#please dont start mizu gender discourse on this post btw...... for mine AND op's peace of mind#if you need to make a rant about how mizu is a woman and we're not allowed to interpret her as anything else....make your own post#thank you <3#meta dissertations.pdf#soooorta#peer review and addendums.pdf

A slightly deranged review from a long time Dragon Age fan.
What this game promised to be in terms of a Dragon Age game: - Most romantic - Offer a few key world state choices that would have great plot impact, which emphasis on wanting to give players choices that have a visual impact, not just codex. - The most complex, deep companions yet. - Choices that matter.
What I got: [SPOILERS] - The shortest, chastest romances I've ever seen, where the end goal is quite literally sex. The final romance scene is the sex scene, after you've been locked in for some time. No sex before marriage, lol. Even the shortest romance in DAI is longer than the longest romance in this game. It's probably the least sex positive game out of them all. - The only choice that has visual impact is the Solas option, and even that doesn't really give anything major. Solas has maybe one unique line? Otherwise, there is no major change. The other two choices (Did you disband the Inquisition? Did you vow to save or stop Solas?) have no difference, either. It's a matter of do you want your Inquisitor to say "comrade" or "friend." The Inquisition doesn't matter. The South gets nuked off-screen anyway. In codex. So two of the three world state choices we get are mostly represented in codexes anyway. - I have nothing against the companions in Veilguard, but to call them the most complex is somewhat... false. Solas is a complex character. Thom Ranier is complex. Vivienne de Fer is complex. Fenris, Anders, Merrill, Isabela, Morrigan, and Sten are complex characters. They are characters who contain complexities that are not easily swept away. ALL the Veilguard companions are your next door neighbors. They're normal. There's nothing wrong about that, but they don't challenge you. There's nothing to think about. Lucanis isn't going to make you seriously consider your morality, despite being the "prince" of the Crows - hired killers. Neve's standing and possible privilege as a human mage in a magocracy is never commented on. These are just two examples, but the same applies for the rest of the companions. None of them are HIDING anything. I will reiterate that there's not anything necessarily WRONG with that, but it does mean they lack the flare of drama that previous companions had that made them brain-scratchers. - Choices don't matter. No matter what Rook does or says, you're railroaded into a scrappy, heroic person who is always right. The worst thing you can do in this game is just NOT do the companion quests. - Despite being a RPG, there is no roleplaying. It's more action/adventure. But it gets a little slow in places for an action/adventure. And it doesn't have enough roleplay value to be a satisfying RPG. - Pretty much the only reason I can see replaying this game is to see the opposite city routes. You don't have to finish the game to get the full romance, either. - No lore continuity. Elves, qunari, dwarves, and humans just living in peace in Tevinter. Some fantasy where poor communities aren't racist doesn't explain this away. - Orientalism in Rivain? - Reducing what was originally a story about slave liberation and rebellion to "love and murder" over Solas' ex situationship. - The game can understand gender that exists outside a binary but somehow can't understand multiculturalism. - Why does Bellara, a Dalish elf, have white guilt?
Some disorganized additions:
- Tonal whiplash. You go from losing a supposedly beloved companion to the final romance scene (the sex scene) in the space of 5 second. - You can't speak to your companions outside cutscenes. However, you can go around the Lighthouse snooping on your companions having nice conversations amongst themselves. - Not a SINGLE companion bothers to check in on the PC even once. You played as a Grey Warden who lost Weisshaupt? No one cares. Emmrich will check in on Davrin but not you. The only point in the game where they show even a smidgeon of care for you is after the Regret Prison, but they don't actually show it. You're pulled out and it immediately cuts to a war table scene. No emotional reunions. - This is Found Family - but only for the companions. Bellara has the opportunity to see Neve as a sister figure, but not you. This could roll into the lack of roleplay value in this game, but it really adds to the lonely element of this game. - "Okay guys, we lost the big game. Let's all take a step back and do some self-care exercises." But the game is Weisshaupt and the South is getting nuked. - Characters often feel like caricatures of themselves. Oftentimes this game feels like a fanfiction of the story and characters it's representing. Some of the things the characters say are not things that normal people would say. Because Rook never builds more than an entirely superficial relationship with their coworkers, it's entirely believable that the most moving thing Rook can think to say, whenever the obligatory Sad Moment happens to a companion, is "[Insert Name Here], I'm so sorry." - You could replace the Inquisitior with a cardboard cut out and it would have more life. - We already had a story about a disapproving parent who is hurtful to their queer child with Dorian. There was a missed opportunity with Shathann to explore the Qunari's view on gender, but only the Tevinter characters are allowed to talk to Taash about different gender identities. When Shathann talks about qunari gender identity, it's oppression. This game's handle on cultural identity is awful. And then they fridged Shathann. - Did you know Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain, the ancient elven gods (we won't say Evanuris even though that's shorter and more believable to Andrastians who might balk at the idea of ELVEN gods), have escaped from their prison and are blighting the world? The elven gods escaped and they're blighting the world, because they're blighted and escaped prison and are elven gods and are blighting the world, Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain, those gods, who are elven, and escaped and are blighting the world. - This game is Young Adult. This game is YA with all the darker, grittier elements from the previous game filed away, presented as "politically correct" with "ethical piracy" with no continuity in characterization because Isabela Dragon Age 2 would NOT say any of that. It's if Genshin Impact was a Dragon Age game, complete with the canned body language (cross arms). - The villains are one-dimensional. Aelia's "Minrathous dark truth" AKA Batman villain, Butcher dies after 1 moment of glory, the Dragon King is nothing sauce, if Elgar'nan was just a little bit more intelligent he'd have just smashed that moon into Thedas and called it a day, Illario's speech is ripped right from the Lion King. Gone are the days where antagonists had complex reasons for their actions. Gone are the days where characters were put into situations were there was NO good choice for them to make and we could judge them with the nuance they deserved. - Also did you know: Whatever it takes?
On the bright side, the CC is great.
#datv critical#veilguard critical#every time i start this it gets a little longer#i think this is finally my comprehensive review#as you can see i was not a fan#if you enjoyed the game: i am GENUINELY happy for you#i wish i could have enjoyed it but unfortunately it just does not hit for me

REVIEW: Sinéad O'Connor - I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got (1990)
Genre: Pop, Folk
Upon hearing of the tragic passing of iconic singer-songwriter Sinéad O'Connor today, I found myself giving her biggest album a full listen for the first time in quite some time in an attempt to come to terms with her passing. O'Connor was always a personal favourite of mine, and was one of the many folk-oriented musicians that were played non-stop at home growing up. She was always one that stood out to me even all those years ago, and with good reason as can be heard on this sophomore release.
There is a very eclectic mix of sounds on this release. The minimal instrumentation on tracks like the orchestral "Feels So Different" and calming acoustic number "Last Day of Our Aquaintance" give plenty of space for O'Connor's voice, adding just enough texture and movement without taking away from her performance. In direct contrast with this is standout track "I Am Stretched On Your Grave", which incorporates beats similar to those seen in classic Hip-Hop and combines them with the words of classic Irish poetry and the sound of fiddles in a way that really shouldn't work, but ends up blending together perfectly. All of these tracks are of course accompanied with an iconic vocal performance that breaks your heart, at times with a soft and smooth voice with a deep sense of sadness bearing upon every word, and at others is bringing a unique and profound power to her voice with a beautiful falsetto.
O'Connor's lyrics are at often points heartbreaking to listen to. Whether it be her struggles with fame and pregnancy during her career's kickstart on "The Emperor's New Clothes" or the account of her devastating miscarriages she suffered through in "Three Babies", she never shied away from sharing herself at her most vulnerable. She was also never afraid to be political, switching over to a brutal and poignant critique of Thatcher's Tory government on "Black Boys on Mopeds".
All of these tracks however still pale in comparison to the pure perfection that is her cover of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U". With the most beautiful performance of O'Connor's career, it absolutely deserves the accolade of being her biggest hit. Not everyone can outdo Prince, but then again, not everyone is Sinéad O'Connor.
This album is genuine perfection from an artist that was already a master of her craft after only her second release. To say it was nothing short of a masterpiece would be doing a disservice to the release. Writing this and sharing my feelings I hope will help with dealing with this great loss to the music world.
Nothing compares to Sinéad O'Connor.
Favourite Tracks: Three Kids, Black Boys on Mopeds, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, Nothing Compares 2 U
Overall Rating: 10/10

Hope I make it out of here.

PILE 1
Oh, bestie, I feel you on this. Balancing hustle and chill vibes is so important when youâre in that âlevel-upâ era, especially with the Lovers card as your overall energyâitâs giving alignment and divine choices. Hereâs the tea:
First, trust that this new career opportunity isnât just a job; itâs a gateway to something magical. Your next lover is literally waiting for you on the other side of this. Like, how iconic is that? The universe is basically screaming, âThis is part of your glow-up!â
But letâs keep it real: grinding too hard can mess with your flow. So, schedule your downtime like itâs a business meetingâwhether thatâs journaling, bingeing your fave show, or vibing out with a playlist that makes you feel main character energy. Chill time isnât lazy; itâs necessary. You canât pour from an empty cup.
When it comes to hustle, think of it like this: show up and give your best, but donât overthink it. Be intentional, not overwhelmed. Remember, the Lovers card is also about harmonyâso treat your hustle like a love story. Be passionate, but know when to step back and breathe.
And hereâs the real plot twist: this opportunity isnât just about meeting them. Itâs about meeting the next, more evolved version of you. Theyâll love that version of you, and so will you. So take the leap, but keep your soul soft. Youâve got this. â€ïž

Okay, imagine this: when you hit your full potential, your life looks like the perfect balance of confidence and rest. Youâve worked hard to know your worth and never settle, and now youâre living in a way that matches that energy. Think quiet mornings in a space that feels so you, reflecting on your growth while sipping your favorite coffeeâunbothered and untouchable.
But hereâs the thing: getting there doesnât mean youâre grinding 24/7. Youâll learn that slowing down is the power move. For example, instead of saying yes to everything, youâll get super intentional about what aligns with your long-term goals. If an opportunity feels off or doesnât match your vision, youâll confidently pass, knowing that better things are waiting.
That self-love youâve mastered? Itâll make you a magnet for respect. People will see how deeply you value yourself and will match that energyâor theyâll fall off, and honestly, you wonât care. Itâs like youâll finally be surrounded by relationships, jobs, and opportunities that deserve you because youâve set the bar so high.
Hereâs the practical advice: stay open to adjusting your plans, even when itâs uncomfortable. Sometimes, what looks like a setback is actually setting you up for something bigger. For example, if one path feels blocked, donât fight itâpivot. Trust that your ability to choose yourself will always lead you to the right place.
And donât forget to rest without guilt. Itâs okay to take breaks to recharge because thatâs when your best ideas will come to you. Picture yourself booking a solo trip, splurging on the nicest accommodations, and using that time to dream even bigger while staying grounded in gratitude. Youâre leveling up and protecting your peace, and thatâs the ultimate glow-up. đ±âš

Alright, picture this: once you hit your full potential, your life is like a perfectly designed blueprint, executed flawlessly. Youâre running the showâwaking up early, knocking out your goals, and moving through life like you own it. Your schedule is tight but purposeful, and everything you do feels like a step toward something even bigger.
Youâll probably have this fire inside you to keep starting new projectsâlike launching that dream business or taking on leadership roles that actually challenge you. People will look at you and think, Wow, theyâve really got it together. But behind the scenes, youâll know itâs because youâve built systems for yourself that work. For example, you might have a weekly ritual where you plan every detail, from career moves to self-care, so nothing feels chaotic.
That being said, youâll need to make space for the unknown too. Life wonât always go exactly as planned, and thatâs okay. Think of it like this: when things feel uncertain, donât freeze up. Instead, take a moment, check in with yourself, and adjust. For example, if a big opportunity comes up and doesnât look like what you expected, lean into itâit might just be the thing that pushes you further than you imagined.
And hereâs a practical tip: track your progress. Maybe itâs a journal where you write down your wins every day, no matter how small, or a calendar where you block out âme timeâ just as seriously as work tasks. The key is staying grounded while keeping your eyes on the horizon.
Your focus on success will still fuel you, but itâll feel balanced. Imagine being so confident in what youâve built that you can finally relax a little, knowing that your foundation is unshakable. Youâre not just surviving anymore; youâre thriving. And itâs all because you created the structure to let your ambition flow without burning out. đĄ

Okay, so hereâs the vibe: when you hit your full potential, your life is gonna feel like this beautiful balance of self-love and success. But hereâs the thingâyouâve been carrying a lot, especially with your siblingâs struggles. Itâs tough because you want to help, but you have to realize that in order to become the best version of yourself, you have to put yourself first. And I know thatâs easier said than done, especially when you love someone so much and want to see them thrive.
Youâve been trying to fix things, trying to heal others, but you canât keep pouring from an empty cup. Youâve been holding onto a lot of emotional weight, and thatâs been draining you. Itâs okay to step back and focus on your own growth. I promise, youâre not abandoning anyone by taking care of yourself. In fact, the more you work on you, the more youâll be able to help them from a place of peace.
But itâs gonna hurt a bitâletting go of that guilt is a process. Youâll have moments where you feel torn, but trust me, your potential and your future are calling you to take care of you. Your dreams, your goalsâthey matter, and they deserve your attention. Itâs about putting boundaries in place, even if it feels hard at first.
You might not have all the answers right now, and thatâs fine. You donât have to have it all figured out, but youâll get there. Things will come into focus when you start giving yourself permission to live your life without guilt. Itâs gonna feel so freeing once you realize that your own peace and happiness are the foundation for everything else to fall into place.
So take it slow. Focus on your journey, even if it means you need to step away from the chaos a little. You deserve to put yourself first, because the version of you that is fully healed, confident, and at peace is going to be the one that thrives and makes all those big dreams come true. Your success starts with you, and youâre worthy of every bit of it. â€ïž

A Loving Distraction
Wednesday Addams x Reader
One-shot
Summary: Wednesday attempts whatâs meant to be a study session, but being the distraction you are, you had other plans in mind.
Warning(s): kissing, established relationship, and no pronouns
Notes: dedicated to @101rizzlrr - ask and I shall deliver
You stare at your phone, thumb hovering over the text you're about to send to Wednesday. The message reads: "Meet me in the library? Promise to actually study this time."
The memory of your last "study session" brings a smile to your face. You'd spent more time debating the merits of different torture methods throughout history than actually reviewing for finals. Not that you minded - Wednesday's passionate defense of the rack over the iron maiden had been oddly endearing.
Your phone buzzes with her reply: "Bold of you to imply I was the distraction last time. But fine. West wing, third floor. Don't be late."
Twenty minutes later, you're climbing the worn stone steps of Nevermore Academy's library. The afternoon light filters through the Gothic windows, casting long shadows across the floor. You spot Wednesday at her usual table, surrounded by a fortress of leather-bound books. She's wearing her signature black dress, white collar crisp and perfect despite the late hour.
"You're four minutes late," she says without looking up from her notes.
"I brought a peace offering." You place a steaming cup of black coffee - no sugar, no cream - next to her elbow. "And I was delayed by Principal Weems giving her weekly lecture about proper uniform length to some poor first year."
"Excuses." But she takes the coffee, and you catch the slight softening around her eyes that passes for a smile in Wednesday's world. "I assume you're here because you're still struggling with Advanced Poisons?"
You slide into the chair across from her, pulling out your own textbook. "Some of us didn't grow up taste-testing deadly nightshade."
"Your loss. Mother always said it builds character." She reaches for your notebook, scanning your latest attempts at categorizing toxic fungi. "Your classification system is almost painfully wrong. Look at this - you've put death caps under 'slow-acting.' They can kill within 48 hours."
"Not everyone shares your enthusiasm for mortality rates," you tease, leaning closer to see where she's marking corrections in precise red ink. Her hair smells faintly of rain and graveyard dirt - a scent you've come to associate with comfort, oddly enough.
"Clearly. Which is why you need my help." She pauses, dark eyes flickering to yours. "Though I suppose there are worse ways to spend an afternoon than ensuring you don't accidentally poison yourself with basic mushroom identification."
"Aw, you do care."
"Don't be ridiculous." But her knee bumps yours under the table, and stays there.
The next hour passes in a comfortable rhythm of studying and bickering. Wednesday corrects your work with cutting efficiency, while you try to distract her by suggesting increasingly outlandish uses for non-lethal poisons. ("Think about it - just enough to make the entire school board mildly nauseated during budget meetings.")
"Focus," she chides, but there's amusement lurking in her voice. "Unless you want to explain to your parents why you failed this semester."
"They'd understand. I'd just tell them I was distracted by my brilliant, beautiful girlfriend who happens to be a walking encyclopedia of death."
"Flattery will get you nowhere." She turns a page with deliberate precision. "And that's not even close to my most impressive quality."
You lean forward, resting your chin on your hand. "Oh? Do tell."
"I can name at least fifteen ways to incapacitate someone with items found in this library alone." Her eyes meet yours, challenging. "Would you like a demonstration?"
"Tempting, but I think the librarian is still mad about last time." You reach across the table, fingers brushing her wrist. "Besides, I can think of better uses for our time."
Wednesday arches an eyebrow. "Can you now?"
The tension shifts, electric and familiar. You stand slowly, walking around the table until you're beside her chair. She turns to face you, expression unreadable but for the slight catch in her breath when you lean down.
"Much better uses," you murmur, and then you're kissing her. Her lips are cool against yours, tasting of coffee and secrets. One of her hands finds its way to your collar, pulling you closer with that controlled intensity that is so uniquely Wednesday.
You break apart at the sound of footsteps approaching, though you don't go far. Wednesday's normally pale cheeks have the faintest hint of color, and you can't help feeling a bit smug about that.
"That wasâŠ" she starts.
"Distracting?" you offer with a grin.
"Entirely inappropriate for a study session." But she's fighting a smile now, the real kind that makes her look almost human. "We have an exam tomorrow."
"True." You brush a strand of dark hair from her face. "But I'd argue that was an excellent practical demonstration of biological responses to stimuli."
Wednesday rolls her eyes, but she's definitely smiling now. "Your scientific method needs work."
"Then I suppose we'll need more practice." You gesture to the towering shelves around you. "We have the whole library."
"You're impossible." She stands, gathering her books with precise movements. "Come on."
"Where are we going?"
"To find somewhere more private for your⊠research." She gives you a look that makes your heart skip. "Unless you'd rather stay here and actually study?"
You grab your bag, already following her toward the stacks. "Lead the way."
