The gun at his temple
Is colder than ice,
And between their breaths
Hangs a question of price.
His nerves a strung wire
When their eyes meet.
He's out of aces,
No ways to retreat.
Wrong people to trust,
Wrong places to go.
Righteous reasons to act,
Hunt for truth to unfold.
An answer unspoken
Is known for 'em both:
He'd rather expire
Than break given oaths.

The Cyranoid Redux
Keenler Super Mini Fic follow-up scene for
8.09 “The Cyranoid”
composed in the form of a drabble and a half
He senses the shadowy figures’ presence the moment he drops his keys in the catch-all. It looks like Liz, but who can tell these days?
He takes a couple of halting steps forward, sick with apprehension. Meeting the Cyranoid again was not his idea of unwinding after a long, hard day, no matter how much he wanted to talk to Liz in any way possible.
As the shape of Liz moves into the light, he releases the breath that chokes him. And drinks in the sight of her, immediately pulling her into a tight, warm hug.
“I missed you.” Liz whispers. He shivers as her breath caresses the skin below his ear.
But he answers darkly, “I know you did. You told me.”
She laughs a little as they release each other.
Liz looks up at Ressler, her eyes pleading as she asks,
“But did you miss me?”
Ressler looks serious now, and replies, his voice thick with emotion,
“I could tell you. But I’d rather show you.”

Imagine a sick Red hailed up in bed and the task forks taking turns sitting with him. Maybe him and Ressler bond over some honor-based conversation, him and Cooper drink to old times or something like that, Park brings him soup and then leaves, and Aram is last, he brings a beauty book of Arab poetry to read to Red, and the two of them bond also. Later it’s just Dembe with him until Lizzie, who was watching Agnes, plops down with their daughter to show Red pictures Agnes made drew for him ❤️💔
Oh, anon 🥺🥺🥺 I was not prepared for this cuteness 😭😭 I mean, Ressler, Papa Coops, & Park are nice... but what really got me was Aram reading to Red (even tho he was probably super nervous). And then Dembe (cause there hasn't been a sickness or injury that Dembe hasn't seen Red through, owww). AND THEN LIZZIE & AGNES cause ummm... the thought of Agnes drawing things for her sick daddy, who praises them for the masterpieces they are, asking her about every detail she included while she proudly points out the hearts she added at the bottom just for him??? I mean, not to be dramatic or anything, but that kind of makes me want to rip my heart out of my chest 🙃🥲💔 LOL Anywayyy, clearly this is an adorable thought that I will hold close to me, thank you very much for sharing, anon!! 🥰🥰 Much love to you, my friend!! ❤️

FAQs
Q: What is it? A: It’s TBL Rare Ships Appreciation Week. Q: When it’s happening? A: The week will be held from 4th till 11th of April. 11th is the Bonus day. Total 8 (eight) days of celebrating your ship! Q: All ships are allowed, right? A: Rare ships are allowed. Meaning that two major ships of this fandom—keenler and lizzington—which already have their months and appreciation weeks, aren’t. We want the people who ship something else than mainstream ships be heard and seen. Q: What if I can’t participate, but I want to join? A: You can like/reblog edits! That also counts. Q: Is there any limit for number of posts per day? A: From our experience, if you’re doped enough, you can do 13 posts per day. Your eyes and back won’t thank you, though. Thus, the number of posts is up to you. You submit one—great. Submit 10? Great, too! Q: Can I take this event to other social media? A: Yes, you absolutely can! Q: Does my ship have to be canon for me to join? A: As long if it’s not a mainstream ship (Raymond Reddington x Liz Keen aka lizzington or Donald Ressler x Liz Keen aka keenler), you’re cool. We believe that canon isn’t the Holy Grail. You can bend it the way you want and ship anyone you want to. Q: I’m not into shipping people with people, but I want to join! :( A: No worries, we have a list of crackships where we ship our fav characters with things they can’t live without. Q: I don’t do graphics, but I write fics. Can I join? A: Your participation may include, but not limited to: manips, edits, fanarts, gifs, collages, fics, vids, screenshots, metas, poetry… Anything you wish. Q: I’m into kinky stuff. Not sure I can share it here… A: You can, and you should. Nothing to be ashamed of. Make sure you tag it #NSFW. Q: I can’t participate all 8 days :( A: You may participate at your own pace—one day, two, three, all 8, only support with likes or reblogs. No pressure.
If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

It’s not like I planned this. I just ... there was a lot about Tom’s character that didn’t make sense to me, and I wanted him to make sense, so I looked deeper into his character. The deeper, the better. More objective if you aren’t a shipper or huge Tom Keen fan. People don’t want to see someone bash all that they love, which I often see with shippers. They’ll swarm a post like a pack of rabid dogs if you slam their ship. Sometimes it’s hilarious. But also understandable. Hate can do the same, but I never allowed my hate for Tom’s character to cloud my theories. I had every reason to hate him, there’s no denying that. But hating and lack of understanding are two different things.
I have ADHD and OCD. My mind is in constant, and it’s not just one thought at one time, it’s dozens swimming round and round again. New thoughts diving into the pool, some jumping out because they’re tired. It’s like a humongous public swimming hole. Details matter to me because they take up a big chunk of brain-space. When they don’t fit, my mind forces me to find out why. So much thinking, I often get headaches because of it. Sure, I could go on medication, but I love the way my mind works. It limits me in some areas, but I don’t want to end up a thoughtless zombie. I know many of you have seen it already. I’ll post, and like ten minutes later, you’ll see that I’ve edited that post to add more information. That’s quite literally how my mind works. Thought spurts. Same with comments and replies. If I reply to you on fb, you’ll likely end up with ten more. I have to force myself to stop thinking in order to watch a full-length movie. I have to force myself to stop thinking in order to sit and read a book. Short stories and poetry is better, so I typically stick with that. Fanfic is good too. I watch more tv than film. My thoughts are constant, which is why most of my posts are long, or I end up posting ten shorts back-to-back.
Tom’s character didn’t make sense, I wanted to know why. I don’t ship him, I don’t like him, but I also don’t want him painted as a monster. Redemption’s very concept, doing bad for good. It’s called intent, and it matters. When you have a criminal like Red who quite literally kills people, intent matters. I don’t give a fuck about characters like Floriana Campo. One bullet can save so many. Only a monster would support the rape and abuse of children. I’m a huge Dexter fan.
A single, simple concept that allows one character to make sense. Tom’s gun to Liz’s head in 1x22. Sorry, but you're not gonna sell me the idea that he put a gun to her head because he was trying to save her from Fake Berlin. He took her to the man. What he saw when he got there didn’t change his intent, only his approach. It was Fake Berlin’s dialogue to Tom. “Let’s deal with the other female agent first. Then I want you to take care of the ginger.” At this point, Fake Berlin’s hitman was in Ressler’s custody, so he had to turn to Tom for help. Let’s say their intent was to kill her. Why would Fake Berlin need Tom's help to kill a woman? If it’s a matter of getting close enough to Liz, okay. Why would Tom need Fake Berlin's help to kill Liz? If she was supposed to die, why not kill her when he pulled the gun on her in the first place? Why bother taking her to Fake Berlin to do it? He could’ve had her pull into some alley, put a bullet in her head, and be done with it. Apparently, they both need to kill Liz together, but Tom can kill Ressler by himself. Why? Perhaps the intent wasn’t to kill. Perhaps the intent was to deliver. I will now call your attention to dialogues at the Red Wedding. Coming to kill her? -- No. To abduct her. -- I was instructed to deliver Masha Rostova to my employer, and that’s what I intend to do. Now I’d like to call your attention to Solomon’s dialogue to Tom in the pharmacy, and Tom cutting him off mid-sentence. This one’s on you, kid. We’re only in this situation because… Solomon is referencing Liz’s attempted kidnapping at the Red Wedding. He’s blaming Tom for it. Why? And what did Tom say to Liz before their Red Wedding? Need I say more?
A simple fucking concept. Okay, Tom cared about Liz and wanted to do right by her. He believed Constantin was her biological father, and he wanted to reunite them. Is it THAT hard to imagine? We have to worry about how the writers will paint Tom that they should never explain his character? What you consider a fluid characer isn’t a fluid character to me. I’m sorry, but his character NEVER made sense. You can list excuse after excuse all you like, I prefer a good and solid explanation. It makes sense if you actually consider it. That's all I’ve been doing - making sense of a character that has been bothering my brain-space. Make sense of it, and I can move onto other things to obsessively think about.
The writers can’t hurt your precious Tom, he’s a fucking fictional character.

@febressuary Day 12 - Free Choice
I really liked Lorel, because she was the one getting under Don’s skin alongside with Red. And she toyed with his mind too. Angsty, torn apart by his consicence Ressler was a treat to watch. Diego totally nailed it.
Ressler [after] killing Lorel Hitchin “Mr. Kaplan. Conclusion”
I A hideous woman. A liar, a traitor. A murderer, even—but the proof is forsaken. She covers her tracks, she's weaving intrigues, Her tongue's made of lies and her eyes are of steel. She's in bed with crooked lot, no shame bathing in dirt.
II I'm growing impatient: I came for my badge. The arrogance's oozing in her sickening voice: “One way or another. No other choice.” Her eyes awfully close—if she wants, she'd get. A breath of a second—I'm pushing her back.
III Heart's pounding wild, hands're all shaking. Crimson stains everywhere.“I did it. I did.” Eerily dancing, her body got swayed. It shouldn't have happened. It's wrong. So sick. So damn sick. And too late.
IV Dawn's creeping through windows.“I can't do it. I can't.” They won't say “accident”—there's no doubt in that. “I'm not one of them! No!”—“Then get ready for jail.” ...Trembling fingers press buttons, throat's hungry for air. Beeps turn into voice, “The address. Your name.”
V "I know who you are. And now you're mine.” A bird in a cage has more freedom than I. Relentless he is, “You'll do it, no question. Or rot in a jail.” My life's hopeless wreck, one hell of a fail, And I'm doing his bidding, half choking with hate.

So here's a fun game. What are, let's say...10-15 pieces of media (books, tv, movies, whatever) that seem to have been made JUST for you? why?
*cracks knuckles*
Surprisingly, not all of these will be Tanith Lee.
…however…
{And this goes under a cut because this is going to be a very long, verbose post. A really long, verbose post.}
1. “Tales from the Flat Earth” by Tanith Lee
These books are essentially like sitting by a crackling fire on a cool summer night beneath the glimmering night sky while a smiling crone cards wool and tells you the stories that come from a time aeons before your birth. I have never in my life found a quartet of books–let alone one book–that have so completely and absolutely captivated me. From the first page of “Night’s Master,” I was gone.
Not only the language–breaking the fourth wall and referring to “words lost when the world reformed itself in the chaos”–but the characters… Azhrarn, the personification of Wickedness who saves humanity with love. Uhlume, the personification of Death who faces a form of mortality and is forever changed by it. Chuz, the walking embodiment of Madness, who is gentle to those under his domain and understands that he cannot understand why he does what he does.
Ferazhin and Narasen and Sivesh and Simmu and Jornadesh and Kassafeh and Zhirem and Azhriaz and Dunziel… Names I have never forgotten because they all but sang to me. A flat earth that holds the best and worst of humanity, often balled into a single person, with Underearth and Innerearth and Upperearth holding gods that have grown so distant they no longer recall humans were their creation at all.
I have always loved mythology and these books? These are myth.
2. Pan’s Labyrinth -dir. by Guillermo del Toro
I’m not from Spain or know Spanish. I knew nothing about the Spanish Civil War when I first saw this movie. And this was the first film I saw that cemented del Toro for me as the only man I would ever trust to turn Tanith Lee’s books into cinema.
I love fairy tales, mythology and folklore. And when you read enough of it, you see how bloody it actually is. How terrifying it is to realize that you’re not the only one in the world, humans aren’t the only ones, there are creatures on the midnight side of reality that share space with you.
And I never really liked the Disney version of fairy tales with “happily ever after” and weddings.
This movie was literally like watching something I’d imagined for myself. The acting was fucking phenomenal, the sets and costumes were off the hook and the comparison of “fairy tale horror” and “real horror” that overlapped just blew me the hell away.
And Doug Jones… Doug Fucking Jones. I never respected mimes until him and now I give all the respect. Being able to act, to breathe real life into a concept and a costume until it becomes a character you could picture walking through a forest or peering around a corner while not being able to use your own voice OR your own facial expressions is a kind of magic I think does not get enough appreciation.
DOUG FUCKING JONES, LADIES, GENTS AND GENDER REBELS.
3. Fatal Frame - Tecmo
I’m a writer/reader, not a gamer. When I have downtime or I want to relax, I almost always gravitate towards a book instead of a video game. The few games I’ve played purely for my own enjoyment have usually been MMOs and involve roleplaying.
Except for the Fatal Frame series.
Survival horror is my favorite game genre and I lamented when Resident Evil became more “survival action” than survival horror. (Fuckin’ lickers in the original Resident Evil game oh my god.) I wanted a survival horror game that had some meat to it, had something really compelling about it.
And I found Fatal Frame.
I love Japanese mythology. I especially love Japanese ghosts. For some reason–maybe out of sheer novelty because I, being an ignorant American raised near the US-Mexico border, have had little exposure to it–Japanese ghosts are my absolute favorites. Yurei (and the other subclassifications) just have something to them that I haven’t found in other mythologies. I’ve read and reread Oiwa and Okiku’s stories, been fascinated by the concept of the Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai and wanted more of what I found.
Which Fatal Frame provided.
Not only do the game mechanics work beautifully for someone as easily startled as I am, but the story behind each individual game is achingly intense. The intricacy of the interwoven histories, the rituals, the underlying question of “was all this really necessary or was this a priesthood trying to stay in power”… I love absolutely everything about these games.
4. “The Blue Sword” by Robin McKinley
I’m not going to lie–this book took me forever to actually read. The first two pages were so achingly boring that I had no fucking clue why my mother had recommended it to me.
And then one day, bereft of anything else to read, I flipped through it. I still distinctly remember the line that made me stop and go “wait, what?” – “…your horse tells me where you’ve been…”
me: wait what horses can talk in this? wtf? *flips to the beginning and sits down to fuckin’ read it*
Slogging through those first few pages? Worth it. Because Harry/Hari/Harimad was the first heroine I’d ever encountered that I could imagine myself being. She was too gangly and not particularly pretty and kind of clumsy. She didn’t draw admiring eyes everywhere she went, spent a lot of time going ‘I can’t do this wtf’ and had aches and saddlesores.
Meeting Harry felt like seeing myself on a page for the first time in my life. And seeing someone with flaws like me going through adventure and fighting and succeeding and failing and getting a happily ever after felt like a warm blanket. Like someone had written a book just to tell me: “It’s okay that you’re not beautiful or graceful or soft-spoken and elegant. It’s okay that you’re clumsy and a goof and your hair is fuzzy as fuck because you can be a heroine, too.”
5. “Whoever Fights Monsters” by Robert K. Ressler
No, I’m not a serial killer. :D Nor am I an FBI profiler.
However, after reading “The Silence of the Lambs” by Thomas Harris for the first time in ninth grade, I was fascinated by serial killers. Like… how did they do it? How did they get away with it? WHY did they do it? What kind of person did things like this? I wanted to know so much more and I started grabbing every book on serial killers that I possibly could find.
And the reaction of classmates and teachers who saw my reading material was… less than stellar. Even my mother was vaguely worried about what I was getting out of reading all…that.
It felt like my fascination with serial killer psychology was a flaw in my character that no one else seemed to share. Until I read “Whoever Fights Monsters” and saw Robert K. Ressler talking about the exact same thing. He wasn’t a “sicko” or a “freak” or a “lunatic” or a “killer-in-training” for being fascinated by the psychology of humans who could treat other humans like a moment’s disposable entertainment.
And suddenly, neither was I.
6. American Horror Story: Hotel - FX
‘American Horror Story’ is entirely my thing. Interwoven narratives of fascinating (and often awful) people combining “American horror history” with interpersonal storylines? Yes, thank you, I’ll take a dozen.
This season in particular, however, is just more for me than any other.
Maybe it’s the vampires that are self-obsessed and not particularly powerful but end up with petty grudges and complaints. Or the ghosts that bitch and whine at each other, find consolation together, use Twitter and spend their long, long days doing little more than drinking, smoking and obsessing over their lives and deaths. Maybe it’s the single location with so many years of history weaving together like a book of short stories.
I love ‘Hotel’ because it feels like Brandenburg to me. I could so easily see the entire season taking place in my fictional city and mentally insert my own characters into the show without losing a single step.
Also Kathy Bates is absolutely glorious and I desperately wish to be a tenth as glamorous as Liz Taylor.
7. “The Butterfly Garden” by Dot Hutchinson
Books about serial killers? Yes, please.
Books about serial killers told by a victim who barely survived and understands what trauma really means? Yes, please.
What especially got me about this book is my thing for dioramas. The first one I ever remember seeing was in the El Paso Museum of Archaeology (yes, I’m from El Paso, Texas) and it always both frightened and fascinated me.
^ This one in particular would keep me motionless for ten or twenty minutes at a time, kind of terrified at a house within a building and then absolutely enthralled at a house inside a building.
And the dioramas mentioned in “The Butterfly Garden” were akin to those in “The Cell” –some terrible, awful glimpse into someone’s mind that was visualized and externalized in a permanent way.
8. “War for the Oaks” by Emma Bull
I love the fae.
And I also have read enough to know that those sprightly little fucks are terrifying and humans are rarely left unscathed by them.
This book was my introduction to “urban fantasy,” much as Charles de Lint was my introduction to what I consider “mythic fantasy” and a city that felt so much like my own.
And what was so quintessentially, absolutely me about this book–other than the main love interest being the Phouka :D :D :D–was the underlying theme about creativity.
It’s a driving force, a magic that humans have. It’s uniquely human (as far as we know) and often the only talisman against the dark that we’ve got. With creativity, there’s magic. There’s a spark of something beyond the mundane realities of survival. Creativity is a sword and shield all in one, complete with a lure to bring others along with you.
Whether it’s through music, art, poetry or graphic design, creativity is the actual drive for immortality that pushes us to reach beyond ourselves and touch those we have no possibility of seeing or speaking to in our own short, real lives.
9. Good Omens - Neil Gaiman/BBC
I loved the book when it came out. I didn’t expect to love the mini-series. I especially didn’t expect to love the mini-series for the #IneffableHusbands.
I won’t belabor the point about why this is on my list. The #IneffableHusbands tag on my OOC blog is enough. :D
10. What We Do in the Shadows - Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi
Vampires who are as absurd, incapable and oblivious as me? Yes. All of my yes.
Having played the old World of Darkness tabletop games for years--and absolutely fallen in love with them--I found this movie and was in absolute heaven. These are vampires I can actually imagine hanging out with. These are vampires (and werewolves) I can envision walking around a city.
Noble creatures of the night don’t seem real to me (aside from the obvious reasons.) The supernaturals in this movie? They felt like people I knew. Like people I could meet or characters I’d written myself.
I like the fantastical being put into the mundane--which is why my genre is ‘urban fantasy’ although I have such an eye-twitch about it being all supernatural detectives chasing various pieces of ass now--and I especially love it when the fantastical doesn’t outweigh the mundane.
Imagining vampires vacuuming and riding the bus fits in nicely with my desperate belief (and hope) that the fantastical isn’t JUST imaginary but actually exists.
{And there, I’m restricting this to 10 or we’ll be here all NIGHT.}

@resslingtxn Totally agree that the writers are screwing the Liz up and then everything else goes the same.
@misterlords I've come a long way, you know. I was daddygate and lizzington (yup I can do both, come at me) first couple of eps in s1 (that's why I get the -toners frustration that they're being played right now because Spader indeed played stuff in s 1 and s2 one can't qualify as a healthy parent-daughter relationship), then I started shipping keenler and sort of admiring Red/Ressler too (now I'm a proud resslington shipper both bropt and gay vibes) and Red/Liz/Ressler dynamics.
I shipped keenler right before the middle of s4. I was even writing fics, poetry. Well, you get it. But then I started to notice same things as you did - that she merely uses everyone to get what she wants. That didn't repel me enough at first. The last straw was the fake death. I just couldn't forgive her that. The more the writers kept pushing her towards this manipulative b!tch path later in s5 and s6, the more repelled I became. So eventually I just started hc'ing my own OCs for Ressler as well as pairing teaming him up with Red.
Indeed, whenever she's out of options, Ressler is the one she comes to. And she doesn't care how that affects him - or we aren't shown enough of this.
And the writers now are out of options too — they're going down with keenler because they can't do anything else. But I admit they did build up keenler in earlier seasons, but they also did the same with daddygate/lizzingotn. It's all about baiting the audience, really. It's just now they want to pick up where they left off and it looks very forced.
I don't believe a man like Ressler supposedly jerks off on one woman for 7 years, no, just can't imagine it, sorry
They wanted another Beckett/Castle or whatever, but that just didn't work out because of the Tom and all that went down. If they wrote Liz a little better, I might even say I would be okay with keenler... Now I just made peace that my ship won't happen, and anyway, I will throw any canon out, so it doesn't make a difference to me with whom Ress ends up.
I'm also tired to see that whylist other characters try to redeem their mistakes, Liz is shown like everything she does is okay, not a big deal (two dead FBI agents, yeah).
My biggest problem with her is lack of remorse. I realize it's a writing issue, but that doesn't make me feel better. Until the writers gonna give me a grave justification for all she did, I won't start liking her. So far I'm just not tolerating her.
she isn't doing it for family, she does it for herself, she wants the answers, the truth and isn't taught that maybe if lots of people die because of it mb it's not worth it
I get it, Red ruined her life by putting Tom, by entering it, i really do. But she doesn't answer for her mistakes, never does. And that pisses me off.
I know I’m a talker, forgive me... but hear me out
I’m rewatching the blacklist (thanks, quarantine) and I was thinking Keenler will probably never happen, and right now I’m not sure I even want it to happen anymore.
Maybe you’ll know that I’m a very dedicated keenler shipper, have been from the start and saying this pains me very much - as weird as that sounds.
I’ve been noticing that for Liz Ressler is always a second choice, when she’s in trouble and out of options she reaches out.
When she was keeping Tom locked up she only asked for his help when she was completely out of options, when she was on the run she told him to “back off” because there was nothing he could have done and she seemed extremely disappointed at him when he finally arrested her - even knowing that he was just doing his job and he wanted her to come clean and be safe, she never considered that he wanted the best for her in the way he believes is right not until she was free. Only to shut him out again, when she had Tom he was not an option at all, I’m not talking about romance I’m talking about friendship.
I’ve read someone on tumblr say that they have high hopes for keenler now because they’re back where they were on season 2 and at first I was excited and I read that and felt understood, “someone thinks like this too oh my god keenler is happening!”. Later I realized the thing that season 6-7 have in common with season 2 is the lack of Tom and in some ways the lack of Reddington . She gets close to Ressler when she has no other option in season 2 she had one locked up and the she couldn’t tell the other and was angry with him for all the lies.
Then, I noticed the way she was treating Ressler on season 6. Man, I got pissed, I love Ress very much so it kinda feels she’s using him. I can’t shake that feeling. When Tom died she lied to him, ignored him the only thing she cared about was revenge and fuck all the rest, when she was finally able to stop running she faked her death, lied to his face more times than I can count. Do I really want them to be together?
Don’t get me wrong I think they have a delicious chemistry, I love the partners in both law and crime dynamics, I get excited with every keenler moment we get, I’m looking foward to episode 7x17 to see that hug (I know it’s pathetic) I believe they care about each other very much and I strongly believe that he loves her as in really loves not partner not friend, romantic love. I just feel like she kinda takes advantage of that sometimes, not knowingly but she does.
I still ship Keeler but I’m a bit confused, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this too if someone read this far and is willing to talk I’m all ears, I don’t know anyone that watches this tv show and I really want to talk about it!
