Homura : [getting dressed] Okay! I'm ready! I am willing to make things right for our world!
Time Patroler Trunks : Okay, Homura! We have the Time Stones ready for time travel! Listen up! "Right now I'm on a request to take down that entity and it's currently at 2011, the first of the 2010s of Real World AU."
"In that year, a massive black hole that mysteriously appeared during the War of Shadow Realm and will engulf Real World Earth entirely to be swallowed into Darkness."

~Couch Surfing~
Tumblr media
(Quick note, holy fuck that gif ^)
It was before Agatha hit the island. Summer had just began and life was good. You had your best friends around you as you all hung out on the hammocks in John B.’s back yard. Pope has been your neighbor since you were kids, and you were in every academic club he was in. If you had to pick one of the other Pogues, you were closest to Pope. Kiara of course was a close second, then John B. That left JJ. The two of you had been secretly...macking on each other despite the rule. The two of you thought it’d be better if no one knew so there was no awkward tension in the group. Yet everyone knew. Everyone in the group could see it, and everyone was cool with it because the two of you hadn’t made a big deal of it. Of course, JJ had ranted to everyone about how much he liked you on a fishing trip you had skipped out on after he’d had too many beers. And equally, one day when JJ was mowing lawns on The Cut, you were hanging at John B’s house and let a few too many hits from Kie’s joint get to you, and spewed all the bottled up emotions you had for your best friend.
So yeah, life was good. But also, incredibly sufferable when they others would tease the two of you, not knowing they knew.
You were laying in one of the hammocks, swinging back and forth as you tried to come up with something to do that day.
“I’m perfectly content with staying right here,” you had said with your eyes closed as you swayed in the hammock.
“I’m with Y/N on this one. Just hope the rain doesn’t come soon,” JJ agreed, which normally doesn’t happen when making plans.
“Fine, Pope and I are gonna head over to The Wreck and see what Kie wants to do,” John B. rolled out of his hammock as a crack of lighting struck over the ocean making JJ flinch, and accidentally roll out of his hammock on to the dirt. Pope, John B. and you erupted into fits of laughter as JJ stood up and brushed the dirt off.
“Alright yeah, very funny. I’m hilarious, I’ll just go home,” JJ was just poking fun at you, hoping you’d said something to get him to stay with you at John B’s. Pope got out of his seat as well and patted John B.’s shoulder.
“No,” you pouted and struggled to get out of your comfortable spot, wiggly your way out of the hammock, your three guy friends not helping but to smile watching you struggle. “Come on it’s raining, we can couch surf and watch a movie or something, JJ, stay,” you giggle while you pleaded out random ideas that popped in your head as you finally stood up from the hammock. JJ brought his hand to his chin, pinching his lip between his thumb and index finger and quickly scanned your body. You felt your heart beat in a different way and quicken when he did, a sudden flutter of butterflies in your stomach.
“Fine, only if your nicer to me though,” JJ nodded for you to follow him to the house as Pope and John B. headed to the Twinkie.
“Don’t ruin my sofa!” John B. called back. The two of you stopped, faces getting hot. Pope and John B. began to chuckle at the flustered expressions the two of you had.
“W-what?” You nearly coughed out thinking your friends were finally going to put the two of you.
“Cause of the couch surfing,” John B. winked as Pope laughed and walked away.
“Right,” you said even though they were already gone.
“Smooth,” JJ teased and wrapped his hand in yours and pulled you into the house.
“You weren’t any help,” you argued but chuckled and walked to John B.’s kitchen, opening the fridge to look for any kind of food you could snack on. You heard JJ mumbling something as he grabbed your backpack and walked to the bedroom. You laughed and shook your head while grabbing two beers from the fridge and following after him. You placed the two beers on the dresser by the door and sat next to JJ on the bed.
“So...what’re we watching?” You asked. You pulled your laptop from your back pack just to have the tan hand stop you.
“You didn’t really think we were gonna watch a movie, did you?” You looked over to catch JJ’s face inches from yours. Even though you’ve done so much with him, your breath still catches when you’re this close.
“I mean...what else are we gonna do?” You asked and felt JJ’s hand push the laptop back in your bag and set it on the ground, all while maintaining eye contact with you. You let out a shaky breath, still not over how much this guy affects you.
He leaned back up and returned to his spot with his face inches from yours.
“Come on Y/N...you’re a smart girl,” JJ lightly pressed his lips on to yours, feeling a tingle go from your mouth, down to your core. He pulled his lips from yours, making you chase after them causing a smirk to form on his face. “What do you want to do?” You weren’t confident enough in your voice, knowing if you’d answer it’d likely crack. So you simply moved your left leg over his lap and straddled his lap. JJ’s eyebrows cocked up as held back a slight chuckle because of the shock you gave him. You started to smile more as well as his hands rested on your thighs as he sat up to bring your lips together again. This time the kiss was deeper, you granting access for him to slip his tongue in. His hands started to slide up from your thighs, now gripping your hips and moving you against him in rhythm, grinding against him as a slight whimper escaped your lips. You felt a smirk tugged on JJ’s lips. Your right hand were playing with fistfuls of his hair, your left on his jaw, feeling it move in rhythm with everything else.
JJ’s hands now started to move quick, tugging at your light, baggy shirt making you pull away from the kiss. You moved your arms across your torso to take the shirt off, JJ putting his hands on the side of the shirt. You both started to giggle at the eagerness you had to have this shirt off. You tossed the shirt, to the side of the messy room, now only covered by shorts and a bathing top, and put you hands on JJ’s shoulders pushing him back on to the bed making him chuckle at the sudden control you had, knowing it would last for long. You tried to seductively take your time as you sat up with JJ watching your every move underneath him. His hands found their spot on your hips again, pressing you against him, trying to cause from friction. You bit your lip as you slowly undid the button on his shirt.
“For fucks sake,” he breathed out and you let out a yelp as the two of you were flipped on the bed and JJ was now on top. He put himself on his knees in between your legs, and nearly tore the black button up he was wearing off. Another giggle left your mouth as JJ scooter down the bed, lips lightly pressing a kiss on your stomach, a giggle leaving your mouth with each kiss as he trailed up. Yet the giggles stopped and turned to deep sighs as his lips worked around your chest and neck, hands doing their best to untie your bathing suit in the back. Once he got it undone, his lips started to attack your neck and collar bone now, his hand wrapping behind your neck and pulling you up with him so he could slip your top over your head. He leaned back and you felt heat rush to your cheeks as he admired your body.
“Fuck...Y/N you’re so gorgeous,” you let another light laugh out, not being able to help the floaty, giddy feeling you get around JJ. You smiled and wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him into another kiss and back down on the bed. He left your lips and trailed down now, his lips leaving little hickies around your breasts, making your back arch once he hit sensitive spots. He skillfully lead his left hand down to your shorts, unbuttoning them and slipping his hand down, feeling how wet you were through your bottoms and pulled his hand out, shifting so he was back on his knees, in between your legs.
“Fuck, JJ,” you breath out and used your hand to grab on to JJ’s hair and tugging at the roots, making him chuckle as you pulled him back to your face, lustfully pressing your lips on to his you started to moan into the kiss more as he grinding himself on to you. JJ let out a small grunt when your hand rugged at his hair more and your lips moved to his neck, bitting slightly to leave a mark. Yet the small moans and breaths were caught when the sound of a door made you freeze.
“Shit,” JJ whispered as you tried to quietly catch your breath. Through the shack walls, you heard more car doors shut and your friends joke and yell through muffled voices. The shark tooth on JJ’s black necklace dangled as his blonde locks fell around his face.
“Fuck,” he breath and moved his hands to your shorts to help you button and zip them. You two moved in a panic as JJ stood up and shut the bedroom door then flopping back on the bed making you giggle.
“Fuck,” you laughed when you couldn’t locate your bathing top. You watched as JJ’s face grew a mischievous smirk. You gave him a questioning look as he held up one finger to his lips, making sure you stayed quiet, slowly moving back over you, you laughed and shook your head, hearing your friends enter the house.
You giggled more once JJ’s lips were back on your neck, hands now pinching the sides of you making you laugh harder.
“Wow! The couch is perfectly fine!” John B.’s voice called making you try to fit JJ off of you. He continued to lick and kiss all over your chest and neck area making you continue to giggle.
“JJ stop,” you breathed out and laughed harder. He shushed you through laughs, knowing the walls were thick enough.
“JJ stop,” John B.’s voice mocked yours from the living room were you heard Kie and Pope laugh. You finally pushed JJ off of you, smiling and shaking your head as you snatched your bathing suit top from the ground and tied it around your back. You started to reach for your shirt, but was pushed back against the bed again, JJ’s bare torso against yours as you let out another breathy laugh. JJ’s lips were back on your neck like a leech making you smiled and peel him off of you.
“JJ, oh my god,” you giggled out, this time,
“JJ, oh my god!” Kiara mimicked your voice
“What?” He whined and handed you his shirt. “Do you think they can hear us?” JJ asked slightly louder, making you roll your eyes. JJ smiled innocently as he handed you his black button up. You smiled and put on the warm shirt, noticing a few buttons were popped off as you buttoned the bottom ones. JJ noticed as well and cocked an eyebrow up, like he was impressed you two did such a thing.
You followed after JJ as he crawled off the bed, running a hand through his hair before opening the door and walking around the corner. He leaned against the wall and looked at his three best friends smirking at him. You walked out after, holding back a slightly embarrassed laugh.
“It’s about damn time,” Pope rose his hand and pointed between the two of you. You smiled over at JJ who did the same to you.
“I have no idea what your talking about,” JJ looked back to his friends quickly before kissing your cheek and linking his fingers with yours.
“Where are you two going?” John B. asked with a smirk on his face, seeing his two best friends so happy. You pulled on JJ’s arm as your stopped in the door way and turned back to John B.
“We’re gonna go couch surf at my house,”

Chapter 4: Navarro
an: as promised!
Summary: Y/N, Chewie, and Han make it to Navarro, where they are looking to find a high paying guild job. Y/N -- being the badass she is -- gets the information Han and Chewie need, but not without a little jealous angst from Han. Queue a fight in the cockpit and a sweet ending!
word count: 4190
----
You wake up the next day feeling restless. Your feelings got the better of you last night, and your lack of good sleep proved that. As you start to shift to get out of bed, the pain from your ribs shoots you back to reality.
The second day of travel goes by without any major incidents - Han-related or otherwise. You keep mostly to yourself, finishing your repairs and cooking enough food for a week. With Navarro in sight out of the window of the cockpit, you and the crew buckle in for an easy landing. Of all the places in the galaxy you could imagine visiting, of course the first place you go is another sand dune planet. Han and Chewbacca unload the cargo to the delivery point within an hour of landing, proudly boarding the Falcon with more credits than when they left.
“I take it you two got paid well?” you ask, chuckling at how giddy these grown men seem.
You are sprawled out on the couch in the living quarters, changed into your best desert-night-out attire - a matching tan ensemble, exposing your sunkissed arms and a plunging neckline. Your top and pants meet at your hips, covering the bruising that has gotten worse. You are still cradling your side, but the sight of your crew is enough to distract you from the throbbing pain from your ribs.
“Onto the next gig,” Chewie growls happily, stashing his share of credits in a bin he keeps above the couch. “Are you ready to hit the town? I think she’s going to be our secret weapon,” Chewie asks you, turning to Han who looks at you with a hint of concern in his eyes as he realizes you're wearing an outfit that conceals your injury.
“I was born ready, let’s go,” you smile, getting up from your spot on the couch.
Han hands you a communicator and instructs you on how to work it. You place the speaker in your ear and clip the controller around your wrist. Your other bracelets disguise it perfectly. Han and Chewie test their communications before the three of you leave the Falcon.
You follow the pair at a distance that makes it seem you aren’t part of their group. They lead you to the cantina where the guild members tend to hang out. Han and Chewbacca take a seat in a booth close to the entrance. You wait a moment at the door, scanning the crowd for someone who looks like they’d give you the information you need.
“We’ll sit just out of sight while you look for information. Keep your mic hot when you find someone. Once you get the location of the guild meeting, we’ll slip out the front and meet you back at the Falcon when we get a job,” Han chimes in over the comm, his rough voice echoing in your ear.
You don’t respond, as to not indicate to anyone paying attention to you that you are in cahoots with your crew. There. You spot a guild member seated at the bar, keeping a low profile but just buzzed enough that he’s looking for some entertainment.
Approaching the bar, you slyly click your comm’s mic on, making sure not to meet the man’s eyes that you now feel burning on you. You sit down next to him, and order your go-to drink for missions like this - a drink that takes most men by surprise that a lady like you would order it. Whatever that means.
“One fuzzy tauntaun, please,” you say to the bartender, sliding enough credits for the drink and a tip across the bar. You casually toss your hair behind your shoulder, exposing your collarbone and neck to the man seated next to you, still feeling his gaze adjusted on you.
“I would have never pegged you to be a fan of the fuzzy tauntaun,” the man says to you, flashing you a smoldering look.
You smile flirtatiously, knowing that the oldest trick in your book worked once again.
“You seem like too much of a lady to enjoy such a strong drink,” he says, shifting in his seat to get a better view of you.
“I like to keep people on their toes,” you say sweetly, reaching for the drink the bartender placed in front of you, taking a long, slow sip of the fiery alcohol while keeping your gaze on the man in front of you. You feel a familiar set of eyes land on your back. Han. He shifted in the booth to watch you engage with this man, intently observing your body language.
“What is someone as pretty as yourself doing in a place like this?” the man asks, carefully watching your drink release from your lips and land back on the table. “It’s not everyday I get to sit next to the most beautiful woman in the galaxy,” he adds.
What a line. You’ve heard that one before, never sincerely though. Every man uses it with one goal in mind. Hearing it, though, assures you that you’ve picked the right person who will bend just enough to give you the information you need.
“You flatter me,” you squeal, mustering up the most flirtatious tone you can, softly pushing the man’s shoulder away, then moving it to settle closer to you than it was before.
The man flashes a smile as you reel at his compliment, and you linger your touch on his shoulder just long enough to peak his interest. Slowly bringing your hand back to your legs, you respond, “I’m here for the same thing as just about everyone else - a job.” You bat your eyes and smile, as you bring your drink back up to your lips, hovering before you take a sip to ask, “Do you know how I could get a good paying job with the guild as an outsider? I’m new to Navarro, but I’m just passing through looking for work,” you say just softly enough to get the man to lean in even further. You take another long sip, maintaining his gaze.
“I’m not really supposed to say,” the man trails, pausing for a moment, entranced by your presence. You narrow your eyes slightly, willing him to bend.
“The guild only allows outsiders to take jobs at the recommendation of a member,” he says after you slowly move your hand to his knee, still not breaking your gaze on him. You feel Han’s eyes intensify behind you.
“The guild is handing out jobs in 20 minutes three doors south of here. Tell them that Kain Malo sent you, they’ll let you pick from the highest paying gigs,” the man tells you, short of breath because of your touch. You smile at him.
”Kain Malo?” you ask, “Is that your name?” The man smiles and nods, as he takes a sip from his drink. You shift your gaze from his eyes to his mouth and back to his eyes. “It’s the perfect name for a man as handsome as yourself,” you say, hoping to get more out of him. After a moment, you add, “When I get a good gig, I won’t forget your kindness,” sliding your hand up his leg a bit and slowly returning it to his knee. You feel his breath get short and you smile. “I’ll be sure to give you a nice cut as commission.”
“What is your name?” Kain asks, flustered by your advances.
“Nadya,” you smile, giving him a false identity. You extend a hand for him to shake, saying sweetly, “It’s getting late, I should get to the guild meeting.”
“Nadya…” Kain says softly, grabbing your hand and placing it back on his knee, “I’m staying here, at the inn attached to this bar. Room 319. Once you get that job, why don’t you come back and celebrate with me? We could talk about that commission,” Kain trails, his gaze turning seductive. You smile, standing up from the barstool and bringing your hand to rest on his face, softly grazing your thumb over his lips.
“It’ll be a big commission,” you whisper, leaning in so only Kain and your mic can hear. “You know I’m good for it,” you say softly, dragging your hand down his face and to his arm, beginning your walk towards the cantina’s entrance. You turn your head to look at Kain one last time, winking at him before turning to continue walking.
“You two got all of that?” you ask softly over the comm as you walk past the empty booth where Han and Chewie were no longer seated.
“We’re on our way to the guild now,” Han huffs over the comm.
“You’re good at this,” Chewie growls over the comm, his voice cloaked in awe.
“Let’s plan to meet back at the Falcon in an hour or so,” you announce over the comm, turning to find the Navarro Union headquarters. “I need to turn my comm off for a bit, but I will check in when I’m on my way back,” you say.
“Whatever,” says an annoyed Han. You switch your comm off as you walk down the stairs to the Union’s headquarters.
------
You slip through the back of the room of the Union’s headquarters, being careful not to distract from the dealing of missions that have already started. While you couldn’t accept any due to your probation, you wanted to make contacts at this location for future use.
Shit. Your side reminds you of its injury. You are in the most pain you’ve ever felt. After the assignments are over, you’ll go see the Union nurses.
Watching the slides of targets get dealt out among the members, you shudder when the last target is introduced. It’s Kain, the man you just swindled back at the cantina.
“This final target is at the top of the most wanted list for the Union of Navarro. We’ve confirmed he is currently on-planet but do not know much more about his whereabouts or what he plans to do,” the Sister continues. You stand up, requesting to interject.
“Excuse me, Sister. My name is Y/N, I’m a Union member from Tatooine, recently turned interplanetary. My member ID is K-2199.” The Sister nods, allowing you to continue. “I made contact with this target about 10 minutes ago in the cantina down the road. From our conversation, he is under the impression I will be joining him in his inn suite later tonight. I have no intentions of visiting him, as I gave him a false identity and only needed him to tell me the location of the guild meeting,” you say, aware the entire room has turned to your attention. “I cannot accept a mission at this time, but I have his location - room 319 of the inn attached to the cantina. You can use my false identity as an alibi for getting close to him. I told him my name was Nadya.”
“Thank you, Y/N. Damasa, you will lead this mission. We must act quick, form a team with Sister Lor to make a plan,” the Sister says. “That will be all for missions tonight, please stay around if you wish. Y/N, will you come see me?”
You make your way to the front of the room, being greeted by smiling members and choruses of thank yous. When you reach the Sister, she takes your hands.
“Sister Carrie informed the interplanetary council of your updated status as a member. I’m pleased to make your acquaintance, and even more thankful for the information you gathered about the target. Is there anything you require while you are on Navarro?” the Sister asks, with genuine appreciation in her face.
“Thank you for such a warm welcome,” you say. “I sustained a bad injury several days ago, and was hoping to meet with a Union nurse if possible.”
“Of course, right this way,” the Sister says, ushering you to the medical corridor.
----
“Well, Y/N, it looks like you have three broken ribs and severe bruising. I’m glad you came in when you did,” the nurse says, giving you a concerned smile. “I think the best course would be a bacta shot.”
You wince. Bacta shots, though the most effective medicine, are also the most intense of remedies. You agree to the nurse’s suggestion, and she prepares the shot.
“I heard about what happened to you on Tatooine,” the nurse says, distracting you as she injects the shot just below your ribs in your abdomen. “I also heard that your injury was nothing compared to what that trooper got,” she smiles, impressed by you.
“He got it much worse, that’s for sure,” you chuckle, as you pull your shirt back down over your ribs.
“Now, this shot has some side effects,” the nurse cautions, as she disposes of the syringe. “It’s going to start affecting you in about thirty minutes. You might feel dizzy, maybe feel a bit of a high. You shouldn’t operate any machinery or drink any alcohol. The best way to endure the side effects is to go to sleep. You understand?”
“Yes,” you agree, this was not the first time you had a bacta shot. The nurse grabs a few supplies and throws them in a bag, handing it to you.
“What is this?” you ask, seeing she had given you four bacta shots, an assortment of bandages, and some other medicines. “I can’t accept this.”
“Of course you can. You are one of this Union’s best fighters. Now, more than ever, you need to be protected,” she says, earnestly. “Is there anything else we can help you with?” “Thank you,” you smile, doubting her compliment is remotely true. The best Union fighters wouldn’t be on probation. “I’d like to purchase something from the armory. I’ve recently joined a crew of smugglers and think it’s time to get something a bit more serious than my staff,” you chuckle.
The nurse leads you to the armory, where you pick out a small hand knife and a belt. You attach the belt just under your chest, with the knife in it’s slot at the center of your back. You cover your new weapon with your shirt and pay the fee to the armory.
You thank the members for their kindness, and start your journey back to the Falcon, hoping you get there before the side-effects of your shot kick in. You check the communicator for any messages you missed from Han or Chewie. There weren’t any, so you go back online to send an update.
“I’m back online. Be back at the ship in five minutes,” you click over the comm. You don’t get a response. You figure the two were still bargaining for a job and you’d beat them back to the Falcon.
------------
“You’re late,” Han huffs, not even looking up at you as you enter the common room. Chewie is seated next to him at the game table, seeming happy to see you.
“What do you mean? I didn’t think we had anywhere to be,” you ask, genuinely confused at Han’s hostility.
“You said we’d meet back here in an hour. You’re late,” Han says, still not meeting your eyes. You check your watch. You’re six minutes past the suggested rendezvous time.
“Six minutes, Solo. I’m six minutes past a loose timeframe I set,” you say, matching his annoyed mood. “Was the lead right?” you ask the two of them, hoping there was some good news.
“Yes, we got the highest paying job. A delivery to Han’s friend,” Chewie growled proudly.
“That’s great,” you respond, genuinely happy you were able to help out your crew.
“Not great,” Han huffs, standing from the table, finally meeting your gaze.
“But, Chewie said it was the highest paying and it’s for a friend? That seems like the perfect job,” you say, furrowing your brows together at Han.
“He’s not my friend,” Han says, pausing for a moment as if to determine who this person was to him. “It’s complicated. But I know he’s going to try to shortchange us. It’s not an easy job.” Han breaks your gaze and paces over to the desk across the room.
“Don’t be so dramatic. We’ve dealt with Lando thousands of times, we can do it again,” Chewie grumbles. “I’m going to bed,” he announces a moment later, giving you a pat on the shoulder before disappearing into his quarters.
You set the bag of supplies the Union gave you down on the game table, looking in Han’s direction trying to get a read on him. He’s sitting in the desk chair with his back to you. His left ankle is resting on his right knee, while his hand holds his chin. He’s clearly thinking about… something. Suddenly, without warning, Han shoots up from the chair and storms to the cockpit. The mechanic squeak of the cockpit door opening and closing echoes through the Falcon.
You roll your eyes, and start to head to your room. You stop before pushing the door open, and turn quickly on your heel. You march after Han and fling the door to the cockpit open. Han jumps in his seat but does not turn to face you.
“Hey!” you yell. “Want to tell me what that was about, Solo?” you ask angrily. You’re not sure why him being a jerk set you off. Maybe it’s because he was rude, maybe it was the bacta shot rushing through your veins, or maybe it was the fact that he didn’t even say thank you for getting him the information he needed.
“I don’t want to talk, Y/N. I’m in a bad mood,” Han huffs, still not facing you. You move to the front of the cockpit in between the pilot chairs to be in his sight.
“Good, I’m going to talk then,” you huff back. “Did I do something to piss you off? Because from where I’m standing, it seems like you should be thanking me for getting you the information you needed to get the highest paying job on this planet.”
You’re livid. You don’t even care that he didn’t say thank you. You’re more upset about being subjected to his rollercoaster of emotions - a ride you’d rather not be on. Han’s eyes finally dare to meet yours.
“I told you, I don’t want to talk,” Han says gruffly, shooting up, turning to the side wall of the cockpit to mess with some buttons. You follow him to the side, staying in the center aisle of the cockpit, but still within range of his sight if he dared to look at you again.
“It seems my intelligence gathering skills will be feeding us for the next month,” you shoot at him, wanting to strike a nerve.
You were looking for an answer to what you did wrong. The only way to get that out of him was to push him. Han quickly turned around to face you, a look of bewilderment painted on his face.
“I think you’re giving yourself too much credit,” Han sneers, stepping closer to you. “Your skills,” he mumbles, shaking his head, meeting your eyes once again. “It seems like all it took for that guy to bend is a pretty face willing to sleep with him.” Han huffs, taking another step towards you, allowing only inches between your bodies. “Judging from the fact you turned off your comm for an hour, and, not to mention, the look of satisfaction in your eyes, seems like all it took for you to bend was a little sweet talk.”
It feels like a balloon is swelling in your chest, ready to pop. You are angry - no, upset? - that Han would even think you would be so reckless to sleep with someone while they were off job hunting based on information you gave them. Han stands in front of you, not moving, set in his convictions.
“You’re one to talk!” you yell at him. “Fuck you,” you whisper after a moment, shoving him back as you take a few steps towards the door of the cockpit.
“Tell me I’m wrong, then,” Han taunts, stopping you in your tracks and causing you to turn around. Regaining your voice, you catch his eyes.
“I don’t have to tell you anything, remember?” you hiss, bringing up the only condition that you really cared about.
Han rolls his eyes, his body language tensing more.
“You really think that little of me? That I would be so naive to sleep with a strange man I just met on a planet I’ve never been to before?” you shoot at him.
You shake your head, laughing, at how dumb this fight is. Han looks at you, confused. Your expression turns serious once more.
“You might think you know me, Solo. Like every other man in this entire galaxy, you must think that I’m a flirt, that I’m easy, that I’d sleep with the first guy to call me beautiful,” you pause, watching your words pain him. “I don’t care if that’s what you think of me. I care that you would think I’d turn off my comms for-” you pause for a second, before changing directions. “I need you to know that I’m in this. I’m part of the crew. You and Chewbacca are my priorities. I would never do anything to jeopardize that.”
Han watches you for a second. He starts to open his mouth to say something, but closes it again. You sigh. You’re not sure what you want from him at this point.
“I need you to tell me when I piss you off. I don’t like it when you’re mad at me,” you say, softly. Han says nothing. There’s nothing left to say. You turn on your heel and leave the cockpit, retreating to your room.
----
Han stands in the cockpit, looking at the place where you just told him off. He didn’t know why he was in such a bad mood. You were right, tonight was a success. After a moment of processing, he decides to go after you.
He stops cold at your door. What am I going to say?, he thinks, taking a step back from your room.
“What are you doing?” you ask, faintly. Han turns around to see you sitting on the ground, leaning against the couch.
“What are you doing?” he asks, crouching down next to you, a look of worry across his face. “Why are you on the ground?”
“I couldn’t make it to the couch,” you say, trying to adjust yourself to sit up straighter. The bacta was working, alright. You tried to make it to your bed, but you felt dizzy and needed to sit. The ground seemed like the best place to go. “You didn’t answer my question, Solo.”
Han smiled slightly, though his eyes were still worried.
“I didn’t get to ask- I wanted to know how your side was,” he said, stumbling over his words. He gently starts to untuck your shirt from your pants, careful not to accidentally brush your bruises. You catch his hand before he can lift your shirt.
“Stop,” you say. “I can do it.”
Han moves back slightly, giving you room to move. You unbuckle your new weapons belt from under your shirt, placing it on the couch behind you. Han’s eyebrows raise, curious as to how long you’ve had that.
“It’s new,” you shrug, answering his question.
You use Han’s shoulder to help you stand. Han carefully spots you until he’s sure you can stand by yourself. You turn to face him, lifting your shirt just enough to show the blotchy yellow bruise that shows you’re healing. Han’s eyebrows furrow as he examines your side, noticing the point where the bacta shot was injected, softly brushing his thumb across your side. You reel at the touch; not because it is painful, but because it is dangerous. You quickly lower your shirt, forcing Han’s hand off of your skin.
“A bacta shot?” Han asks quietly, meeting your eyes, realizing his judgement of your satisfied look was from the medicine and not a one night stand.
“Guess you figured out where I was tonight,” you huff, grabbing your weapons belt and starting to walk across the room to your door.
“Y/N…,” Han falters. You feel his gaze on you and your stomach churns.
“It doesn’t matter, Solo,” you say, pausing briefly before entering your room, locking the door behind you.
Falling into your bed for the night, you can still feel his touch on your stomach. You touch the spot a few times, making sure his finger wasn’t still there. The pit in your stomach grows, sending a warmth through your body, aching for Han.
No, you think. This can’t happen.
You try to recall the nasty fight you just had with him, his glares, his arrogance. It all comes to mind in a rose-colored facade. Fuck. Before you know it, the bacta effects overcome you to sleepiness. The medicine distracts you from the allure of one Han Solo, just long enough for you to get a full night’s sleep.

Shining Just for You
Sometimes, after a long day of running Out and About and *literally* saving the world, a moment alone together was what Roman and Virgil really craved.

characters: roman, virgil, logan, patton, janus, remus
additional tags: superhero au (v subtle, i guess), coffee shop au
The bell above the entrance to Out and About chimed as the door swung inwards, the puff of warm air and smell of pastries loosening the tension in Virgil’s shoulders. The door fell into place behind him as he hung up his snow-dusted coat—he smiled at the jackets already haphazardly strewn across the hooks, familiar leather and denim and down in the shades of his friends signaling his status (yet again) as the last one to arrive. Though, Roman wasn’t even off for another thirty minutes, so Virgil stopped himself before falling down that rabbit hole of self-loathing. He waved to the table where Patton was currently sidled next to Logan in the corner booth, both of them sat across from Remus and Janus—their faces were flushed from the cold and already bright with laughter, but Virgil knew Roman would forget the rest of the world entirely if not reminded of their biweekly after-hours confabulation, so a venture into the kitchens was necessary. The group returned his greeting, before falling back into the passionate conversation that resounded around the shop, twinkling against the glass and settling into the wood. Virgil chuckled as he ducked under the counter, pushing open the heavy doors into the kitchen.
Virgil sucked in a breath, opting to lean on the doorframe for support rather than interrupting… whatever his boyfriend was doing. Roman was a vision, sleeves pushed back, hands dusted with flour, twisting loops of dough over and over before setting them aside—Virgil vaguely identified them as pretzels, but the way that even fluorescent lights struck Roman like a  sunset to marble clearly took precedent. Virgil cleared his throat, hating to ruin previously-said perfect moment, but nonetheless aware of the endless teasing the pair would suffer if they spent too long on their own. Bastards, thought Virgil, as Roman looked away from the task at hand, shaking himself out of his reverie. But his smile came back just as fast and twice as brilliant when he recognized Virgil, immediately making grabby-hands at his person. Virgil giggled (which he would never admit to anyone other than the witness, but it was sort of the point that it stayed between the two of them—it was the point of this time alone in the first place), and made his way into Roman’s arms. He was sure his shirt was getting dusted in flour and spices, but he couldn’t bring himself to care when all he could sense was Roman—yeast and oak and love and warmth and home.
“You’ve made me a sap,” Virgil whined—though it came out as more of a mumble, thanks to the position of his  face pressed into Roman’s shoulder. A rumble, as Roman laughed, loud and strong, and against his reputation, Virgil smiled like the lovestruck fool he was, and tucked himself further into the crook of Roman’s neck.
“As much as I love surprise hugs from my paramour,” Roman fiddled with the hair at the nape of Virgil’s neck as he spoke, “I do need to get back to baking if we’re ever to join the others.” Virgil huffed, ever the dark cloud Roman adored;
“Do we need to though? I mean,” Virgil unentangled himself slightly, pulling back only enough to grasp the strap of Roman’s apron, “really, I think they’ll be able to handle thirty minutes on their own, don’t you?” He looked up at Roman innocently through his lashes, like he wasn’t absolutely certain that he was what Roman would rather be focusing on—they both loved their friends more than life itself, but sometimes, after a long day of running Out and About and *literally* saving the world, a moment alone together was what they really craved.
“You,” Roman flicked Virgil’s nose, leaving a trail of flour in the process, “can be a terrible influence. Besides, you love helping me bake!”
"No, I love watching you bake—there’s a difference.” Though, in reality, Virgil’s words held little weight, as he had already found another apron and had begun tying the straps around himself. Roman cooed, and Virgil bit back another giggle—as long as he was going to help, he could at least keep himself from giving Roman any more ammo against his reputation. Thus, the pair got to work, kneading and twisting. Pretzels weren’t exactly difficult, but Virgil wasn’t usually a kitchen guy in the first place. The third time his pretzel came out too twisted and small, Virgil stepped back with what could only be described as a growl. He pressed his palms into his eyes, and focused on his breathing.
“Hey, no worries, babe, okay? Trust me. Can you look at me?” Roman circled his own hands loosely around Virgil’s wrists, a presence but not a force. Slowly, Virgil moved his hands from his eyes, smiling sheepishly as his boyfriend gave him a small “yay.” His shoulders slumped a little from the stress, but Virgil had calmed down for the most part.
“Thank you, Ro.”
“No worries, my darling,” Roman squeezed his shoulders, “Do you want to stay with me, or go sit with the rest of the group while I finish up?” Virgil considered his options for a moment, savoring Roman’s touch.
“Can I stay with you? I don’t know how much of a help I’ll be, but I want to be around you. You make me feel safe, but like, you know,” he started backtracking, “not in a gay way or anything.”
“Of course you can. And,” Roman said, kissing Virgil’s nose, “I love you, too.” Virgil blushed scarlet as Roman returned to his task, perfectly aware of the stuttering mess he had just made (even though he’d never admit it). Refusing to give in to the teasing, Virgil pressed his lips into a thin line before settling himself onto the counter, perched to watch Roman. He spent as long as he could watching before getting antsy—and when he got antsy, he got curious.
“Wouldn’t it make more sense to use powers to make breads and stuff that takes this much work?”
Roman hummed thoughtfully. “Maybe, but I like doing it this way. It’s not the same when it’s done with… whatever powers use. What do they use? Vibes?”
Virgil chuckled, sending a flurry of flour falling down on both of them with a flick of his wrist. Roman looked at the faux snowstorm with glee, and then at his boyfriend with admiration. Virgil didn’t show off often, but, when he did, it was for Roman (he laughed at how that was nearly always the case).
“It’s more of a feeling, I think.”
“So what I’m hearing is that I’m right—vibes,” Roman said wiggling his fingers for emphasis, the pretzels all parboiled and ready for baking. A parting (if it could be called that, as Roman was only walking across the kitchen to the oven and back) kiss was shared as the pretzels began their journey to deliciousness.
“So,” Roman grinned devilishly, clapping his hands together,  “The timer is set for twenty minutes. Thoughts on how to fill the time?”
Virgil quirked an eyebrow. “Without raising suspicion? With our group of friends?”
“Powers, Virgil, show me more magic things! Please?” Roman pleaded with his puppy dog eyes, nudging himself as close as he could get to Virgil. In their current position, Virgil was almost taller—a truly amazing thing to be, if Virgil was being honest—craning his neck to get an awkward view of his boyfriend was not the best of times. But now, he could breathe Roman in like the light and airy pastries he had such a way with, and take him all in at once without having to drag him down to his own level. It was a nice change of pace, and Virgil—Virgil wanted to give Roman everything he wanted. So he concentrated his energy, and…
Roman shrieked.
“What a drama queen,” Virgil sighed, fonder than he’d have liked, looking up at Roman as he hovered maybe a foot above the ground, taller once again. He giggled as he swung his arms, attempting to remain balanced (though, in reality, he really had no impact on it—it was all Virgil, except for the joy). Roman made for Virgil’s hands, an invitation and a request and a declaration of love all in one. Virgil accepted, taking Roman’s hands in his own, intertwining their fingers together—somehow, Roman’s smile grew even wider, and he tugged, pulling himself closer to Virgil.
“You,” Roman began, kissing Virgil’s forehead,
“Are,” His cheek,
“Perfect,” His jaw,
“Wonderful,” His nose,
“Amazing,” The corner of his mouth,
“Superb,” Roman breathed, finally kissing Virgil square on the mouth—they bumped flour-covered noses and their teeth clicked at first, but there was so much warmth that neither could bring themselves to care. Virgil smiled into the kiss, pulling Roman ever closer, holding him tight as his concentration turned from keeping him floating to keeping him close. Virgil hummed, pleased, before being rudely interrupted by the tinny ring of the timer. Roman pulled back reluctantly, giving Virgil one last chaste peck before making his way to the oven to remove the pretzels. He began transferring them to the cooling rack on the counter, and, not for the first time that day, all Virgil could do was stare—Roman was glowing, like, literally. It was faint, a remnant, or maybe a reflection of Virgil’s own powers, but it was there nonetheless. It cast Roman in a light similar to that of a sunset, breathtaking and golden and entirely overwhelming. Virgil’s breath hitched when Roman turned to look at him, and suddenly he was feeling much too small, and not at all worth the man in front of him. He decided to start small with confronting his insecurities:
“Hey,” he whispered, reverent and somewhat strangled. Roman laughed, and kissed him, still unaware of his own aura and its effects on his boyfriend. He picked up the plate of pretzels—half salted, half cinnamon-sugar—and offered Virgil his hand. He took it, gently, and stepped off the counter with Roman’s help. Their aprons were hung on the hooks, and they made their way out into the foyer of the cafe.
Patton was behind the counter at the drink machines, while the other three had spread themselves out across two booths, covering the floor and tables with papers and bags and… dice? Something of the sort—moving on. At the sound of the doors opening, Patton turned to greet Roman and Virgil, flicking his wrist to keep the coffees making themselves, but when he saw the two of them, he froze.
Regaining his composure, Patton grinned and waved. “Heya kiddos! How was baking?”
“Wonderful—look, pretzels!” Roman presented the tray with a flourish, earning a small round of applause from Patton—the others were thoroughly enamoured with their conversation, and had yet to notice the addition of the last two members of their group—but all good things must come to an end.
Remus finally looked up at the sound of laughter and clapping, and immediately smiled wolfishly—which was fitting, because he then wolf whistled obnoxiously. The trio behind the counter turned in confusion, as did Logan and Janus, pulled out of their debate about the morality of cannibalism. Logan looked like he was staring at a three headed dragon:
“Virgil, what did you do?”
“Uh,” he said, turning again to look at Roman, who was only glowing brighter, “Made pretzels?”
“Dude, you’re GLOWING!” Remus had jumped over a table and was leaning over the counter to poke and prod at his brother’s face.
“Huh,” Roman remarked, extending his arm and turning it over, “I guess I am.”
“Fascinating…” Logan had Roman’s other arm in his hands, and was closely examining how the light reacted to his touch. Virgil couldn’t help but feel a little excluded—he went from having all of his boyfriend’s attention to none of it, which was fine, and Virgil could live with that, but he didn’t think there was anything wrong with being a little jealous from time to time.
“Okay, okay, my boyfriend glows, lets eat,” Virgil huffed, stretching and wrapping an arm around Roman’s shoulders—as he preened under all the attention, his aura doubled in size, casting the shop in a soft light.
“Gross,” Remus wrinkled his nose, mouth full with half a pretzel, “Get a room.” Roman squawked at his brother’s teasing, and turned to Virgil to defend him (though all he did was shrug, it was enough to appease Roman). Somehow, in all the chaos, Patton, Logan, and Janus were able to carry the assorted baked goods that were left after closing, and the several drinks, to the table without incident. Janus and Logan had resumed their argument, this time interspersed with moral questions and praise from Patton—though, really, he was just paying attention because Logan looked awful cute when he was passionate. Virgil snapped his attention back to the twins, who were still arguing, albeit playfully, but far too long for his taste—he yanked Roman along through the opening in the counter (ignoring the offended noises of both brothers), and over to their friends. The remaining three fell into their places in the booth, as careful as they could, being themselves and all—and with their arrival, the night truly began.

2199 followers celebration question: how do you want bellarke to get together/end up?
Oooh this is a hard question. Part of me wants to say I’ll be okay with whatever they give us, because it is kind of true. I feel like we’ve been waiting so long that anything is going to feel like payoff, lol.
But. Let’s see. I’m kind of digging the brainwashed!Bellamy theory and Clarke kissing him to get him out of it. I think that’s cute.
I think. I THINK my preference though... I want it to be on Bardo. I kind of want them to be alone, maybe they’ve been captured, and they’re being given a chance to say goodbye. Something like that. And then Bellamy would finally tell Clarke what he wanted to tell her on the beach in season four and then they’d kiss and it would be a beautifully scored moment by Tree Adams, because he always knocks it out of the park. And Clarke would be confused and surprised, because she was so sure that Bellamy couldn’t be into her anymore.
Ideally, they’d end up together on a peaceful planet, living out a life with Madi, Octavia, and the rest of their family. I don’t know if I think they’ll get an ending like that. I’d love to see an ending shot where they’re looking over their new home and it ends with Clarke reaching out and taking Bellamy’s hand. I’d be sad if there wasn’t an onscreen kiss, but I’d actually accept that as them getting together in the end. (if that makes sense)
Talk to me about Bellarke or send me drabble requests to celebrate 2199 followers!

Dazai has the flu, but there’s an important case at the Agency. Clearly, the solution here is for Chuuya to go to work in Dazai’s stead.
“…You are here to be what?” “That shitty mackerel is sick,” Chuuya repeats his explanation slowly, for the benefit of this poor guy who’s apparently had the misfortune of being Dazai’s partner in the Agency. “So I’m here in his stead.”

5k Survey XLII
2151. Should fun or safety come first? >> I’d imagine that depends on one’s goals. When it comes to skydiving, one should learn to be safe (take the lessons) before one goes on to enjoy the experience (start actually skydiving). But also, if you take a more psychological approach to the word “safety”, sometimes one has to take a little social risk to get to something fun, and that can feel unsafe, but it [ideally] ends up being worth it. 2152. Does mind over matter work for you? >> I’m not sure in what sense you mean. 2153. What’s the most weight you ever lost in one year? >> I don’t know. Whenever that happened, it’s when I wasn’t paying attention to things like my weight. 2154. What are your feelings about punk and goth? >> I love goth and I have affection for punk because it is kin to goth. 2155. Did you ever write something when you were high and then looked at it sober and realized that it was nonsense? >> No, I don’t think anything I wrote while intoxicated seemed nonsensical when looking at it sober -- maybe a little more inscrutable or revealing than my usual writings, but still within my normal mental/emotional/spiritual frameworks.
2156. How often do you shave: your face? I don’t shave. your legs?  under your arms? 2157. What word do you often hear people misuse? >> I can’t think of any right now. 2158. Have you ever used somebody? >> It’s possible. I’ve had to do a variety of things to survive. 2159. Are you paranoid? >> Not typically, but I can be. 2160. What is the best music video of all time? >> --- 2161. How many Shakespeare plays have you read all the way through? >> Only Romeo & Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I know I was taught Hamlet but I’m pretty sure I didn’t actually read the whole thing. Also, I comprehended almost nothing I read when it came to Shakespeare, so does it even count as reading at that point... 2162. What was the deepest religious or spiritual experience you’ve ever had? >> Not going to get into it here, that’s for sure. I’ve written multiple long-form posts about this kind of thing, so it’s not casual fare. 2163. What is it like to be you today? >> I’m not sure how to answer this. 2164. Do you like to play games? >> Video games, sure. 2165. Have you made any good friends on this diary site? >> --- 2166. Have you met anyone from open diary? >> --- 2167. What have you done lately that gave everyone something to talk about? >> Nothing??? 2168. Do you get along with people who annoy you, disagree with you, dislike you, and hate you? >> If I’m annoyed by someone, or hated by someone, I’m definitely not getting along with them...  2169. When you ask for something do you make a request or a demand? >> I mean, a demand isn’t an ask, so obviously if I’m asking for something it’s a request....... 2170. Who are you a bad influence on? >> I have no idea. 2171. Who are you a good influence on? >> I have no idea. 2172. Who is on your christmas list this year? >> Who?? 2173. How many other people do you know of that are doing this survey? >> Just Elizabeth (Elisabeth? can never remember if it’s a Z or an S, one day I’ll get it right), who I’m taking this from, and someone else in the survey tag. 2174. Have you ever intentionally had a one night stand? >> Yes. 2175. Do you tend to get car sick? >> No. 2176. What is the length of your hair? >> Like, a couple of centimeters. 2177. Do you like to listen to techno music? >> Sure. 2178. Have you ever dyed your hair an unusual color? >> Long time ago, yeah. 2179. What do you think of these diary names? Oculto: suffer victim: With A Purpose:  Almost_Famous: In.The.Name.Of.Lust: The Phallic Stapler:  <*>SeXyCandace<*>: 2180. What do you think of these entry titles? Lesbians … as far as the eye can see: Why Avril Lavigne sucks:  Call On Jesus: Buddha-licious: WeLCome To The JungLe!: Geektastic: Should i get an abortion?: 2181. What do you find beautiful in an atypical way? >> I don’t know what that means. 2182. What would you PHYSICALLY fight someone over? >> Nothing. As previously stated, I have sub-zero interest in being in a physical altercation. 2183. What was the last thing you were invited to? >> I don’t remember. Probably Lauren’s birthday party.
2184. What do you like >> Either there was more to this question that got cut off, or you’re really being this vague at this point in the survey. Either way... Next. 2185. Have you ever drank:  chartruese? No. Was going to buy some for my birthday this year, and then fuckin COVID got in the way of all my plans. absinth? Yes, I drink it somewhat frequently. 2186. Do you plan your outfits ahead of time, pick them out the morning of, wear whatever was on the floor, or wear what you slept in? >> I just wear whatever I pull out of the drawer, when it’s time to change. Most of my clothing is pretty interchangeable. 2187. How long have you ever gone without changing your sheets: A long, long time. Months, probably. clothes: A few days, I imagine. underwear: Also a few days, I imagine. toothbrush: Probably ages, idk. 2189. What item should not be shared? >> Needles. 2190. How do you keep control of your temper? >> I don’t really have to work at this, I don’t have a very advanced temper. It’s my other emotions that tend to get out of hand. 2191. If you could gain all of your dreams by giving a family member (little brother) to the goblin king who would turn him into a goblin, would you? >> Ha! This situation doesn’t apply to me. Can I just be the goblin king instead? 2192. Do you like to listen to Duran Duran? >> No, but Hungry Like the Wolf is a bop. 2193. Do you ever feel the need for MORE than life has to offer? >> No...? What I want is what life does have to offer, but apparently didn’t want to offer to me. 2194. What is your favorite children’s story? >> The Phantom Tollbooth. 2195. Do you think that adult books should have more pictures? >> I love a good illustrated book, sure, why not? 2196. What was your all time low? >> --- 2197. Do you make up songs and sing them to yourself when you’re alone? >> No, I just sing songs that already exist. 2198. Do you like to listen to the Smashing Pumpkins? >> Yeah. This is one of those bands that annoyed me when I was a kid, but I enjoy now. 2199. Do you see the expression of emotion as weakness? >> Unfortunately, I had that concept instilled in me by an emotionally unavailable parent and emotionally abusive relatives. But I fucking hate that concept and I want desperately to be rid of it. 2200. Are you prepared in case of chemical, biological and nuclear attacks? >> I am not.

Persephone | John Wick x Reader (Thirteen)
Words:  2199
Warning: Usual JW-verse violence, minor swearing
A/N: This series is two chapters away from the end with a possible epilogue posted later.
Previously: Alliances have shifted and choices needed to be made. The Underworld needed to be changed. After all those years of being controlled by someone, Rozaliya encourages you to think about what you personally want, not what you think was best for others. You decided to speak with the Adjudicator to set the record straight and stop Sokolov.
-
With Aaron tied down on a chair with two guards watching him, his sister was pacing in the hallway trying to make sense of his motives. She was hurt and furious, understandably so, due to the fact that her own twin brother hid things from her and sided with the enemy at the promise for power.
You went to speak with Caius, requesting for more supplies before releasing him from his Marker, trusting his words that he will help her regardless. You told him of your plan to see the Adjudicator, at John’s distaste, but insisted that it needed to be done. John was excused and told to wait in the hallway after that, much to his annoyance like a boy put on time out.
“The Adjudicator will be at the Continental,” Caius said, taking a drag from his cigar as he sat at his desk, “some of my people say that Sokolov is honing in on that hotel, so you better act now.”
You nodded. “Thank you, Caius.”
“Of course. And I will get information from Mister Kostas as soon as he wakes.”
He smirked, tapping cigar ash into a tray. For a moment, he became lost in his thoughts, humming to himself as his blue eyes trailed the smokey tendrils rising towards the patterned ceiling. He took another drag and let out a long exhale.
“I’m sorry… for the way things have been,” he said, “If I had known the depth of her madness, maybe things would have been different. I guess that’s how it is with family. You can love them, even when you hate them, blinded by the blood that binds you to them. I suppose that’s what Miss Kostas is going through now.”
You nodded. “Family can get complicated, as I have learned in the past few months,” you said, “Alexa is very talented. I think she’d be good here.”
“I think so, too, and I promise that I won’t be obsessed with keeping her here, like my sister did with you. Like how I had almost been with you. Whether you manage to get out of this or not, just know that you’re always welcome here.”
You raised an eyebrow and teased, “No ulterior motives?”
“I always keep my word, Miss (Y/l/n),” he said holding his hands up as if to say he was an open book, “Now I do believe that you’ve left the Boogeyman sulking right outside my office.”
When you walked out of the office, you didn’t see John immediately, but you heard his rumbling voice down the corridor. You made your way down and found him crouched in front of a familiar furry friend.
“Cerberus!” you said excitedly, rushing over and dropping to your knees in front of the precious pitbull. He waggled happily, raising himself on his hindlegs so he could reach your face and kiss you. You squeaked, pulling him off of you and rubbed his belly as he rolled around. “Who’s a good boy? You’re the goodest boy ever! Yes, you are!”
John watched with amusement and adoration at the two beings that he cared for the most in the world. There was a heaviness that had lifted within him along with the dark veil that had been hanging over him. It felt like his veins were pumping with a new purpose, not just revenge or grievance.
You felt his gaze on you and looked up. “What?” you asked, your hand lazily rubbing at Cerberus’s sides.
“Nothing, just looking,” he said with a small smile.
You smiled back, wanting to stay with your boys at the theater, but you knew that you needed to leave. “I have to go,” you said softly, grabbing his hand and squeezing it.
“I’m going with you,” John insisted.
You sighed, standing up. Cerberus flipped over and sat between you two as John rose to his full height as well. “You’re not allowed in the Continental.”
“But that doesn’t mean I can’t be outside.” He released your hand and wrapped his arms around your waist. “We have to do this together.”
You rest your head on him and nodded. “Okay, you stubborn man. But at least I’ll be doing the talking.”
-
The Underworld was filled with criminals, but never in such a long time had it been in chaos, leading syndicates to turn their back on the Table and break the rules. It was a world that was to be kept secret from regular civilians, the Table’s influence reaching politicians, world leaders, and any authoritative power they could get their hold on to keep it that way. At the rate that Sokolov was going, it was too much for the civilians to ignore and causing so much scrambling for damage control.
While the Elder preferred his solitude and safety in the desert, there was no way he could ignore the situation any longer. For the Elder to call the Adjudicator only confirmed the reality that this faction that had been so small had managed to influence enough of other factions, big ones that had their own sway in the world, and convinced them to even dare go against the Table rules. It brought to the surface all these issues that the Table could have sworn were minute compared to the big picture or issues that they didn’t realize existed.
Because of this, it was no wonder that after the Adjudicator had gotten off the phone with the Elder, Winston himself had called them and advised to lock up in their room as a disturbance erupted from the lobby. Their eyes widened and quickly complied, activating the bars on the windows and barricading the door. They heard the hotel go into lock down and aimed their gun at the door.
You told John to park the bike a block away, swearing under your breath as you realized that the Continental was under attack. You shrugged your bag on and readied yourself to approach the hotel when John grabbed your wrist and pulled you in for a quick kiss.
“If things escalate, I will come in there,” John said firmly, locking eyes with you and made sure you knew how serious he was about it.
“I know, and I’ll signal you if I need help,” you said, brushing your hand against his wristwatch, having installed a distress signal in your matching gadgets that had helped earlier in dealing with Aaron Kostas. “Just please don’t go off on your own to kill Sokolov. I need to talk to the Adjudicator and see if we could at least try to get the bounty off of you.”
“I doubt they will,” he grunted.
You sighed, pressing your forehead against his, closing your eyes and relishing in his presence with John doing the same. It took a lot of effort to pull away before heading off.
Sneaking into the hotel during lock down and going through Sokolov’s men would probably be the most tedious part than actually speaking to the Adjudicator. Winston and Charon had done well to secure the place so that no one could get in or out. Which means, you would have to get in through unconventional methods.
You climbed to the roof of the nearby building, doing quick stretches and occupying your hands with the grappling hook while you catch your breath.
“I’m so sorry, Winston,” you said under your breath as you shot the hook at the structure that opened to the roof of the Continental.
Latching the other end securely to your side, you pulled out a small staff and used it to carry yourself to the Continental roof. Once you landed, you cut the rope and made your way towards the doors, using an acidic spray to weaken the hinges and the door knob before using the small staff to break them. You pulled off the door and, as suspected, it was heavily barricaded as well. You gave the same treatment to the metal bars, muttering another apology to Winston.
Using the stairwell to reach the lobby, there was no encounter in sight until you had reached the lower floors. You stopped on a landing as a flood of voices filled the stairwell a level below you and were quickly spreading out. You activated your small staff and stood still.
Two men were climbing up towards you, too busy chatting to notice until they were halfway up. They frowned in confusion, one of them turning their head to look for the others before turning back to you with a smirk, raising his gun at you. Before he could shout at them, you kicked his stomach and struck his companion with your staff, stunning him with electricity. The others heard the commotion, but you were ready.
It had been a while since you fought this many people at once, especially in a cumbersome space like the stairwell, but you used it to your advantage. Eventually, you reached the lobby where the majority of the men were camping out. You dug out your smoke grenade, pulling the pin and timed your throw so that it would activate as soon as it landed.
As they scurried about to find the source of the grenade, you turned off your staff and used the opportunity to strike. Their guns exploded in their hand as soon as they fired, causing them to scramble as you attacked through the smoke.
The last man was knocked down as the smoke cleared, a pile of unconscious bodies littering the lobby floor. Charon emerged from a door hidden in the wall, having made sure that the staff was safe during the lockdown. He seemed to sigh in relief once he saw you, his eyes scanning the men and saw that they were still breathing.
“Are there any more?” you asked him.
“The rest were dealt with by the other patrons while we were securing the place,” Charon said, walking towards you, “I would ask how you got in, but I’m afraid to.”
You smiled sheepishly. “That’s best dealt with later. I’ve been meaning to speak to the Adjudicator, but I didn’t realize that Sokolov would attack this soon.”
“Yes, hopefully that is the only wave that they will be sending. Winston is currently calling the Adjudicator down, so we can all talk then.”
-
John was restless as he waited outside of the Continental, hiding within the shadows and out of sight of those that want his head. Peace and quiet never lasts forever for him, though, as he sensed movements around him.
He grimaced, glancing at the hotel before swinging a leg over the motorcycle and starting up the engine. He knew he promised that you would confront things together, but he would have to break it just this once.
The moment he hit the streets was when the chase began. He recognised a few of the Bowery Boys scattered about the streets, hiding under piles of blankets or sitting down with a cup in their hand, but they made sure to keep an eye on him as he passed. Sokolov’s vans were following him close behind, their heavily tinted windows rolling down, revealing assault rifles trained on him.
John cursed under his breath, searching for a way to get them away from the main streets to avoid any stray bullets hitting innocents. He wove his way through the concrete jungle, getting further and further away from the Continental and away from you. He dodged as much bullets as he can before pulling up to one of the windows to wrestle the rifle out of the man’s hand and using it against them, making them swerve.
He leaned forward and sped ahead, counting on the vans to catch up with him. Their engines revved as they try to hone in on his bike. As soon as they were a good distance away, he hit the breaks, shifting his weight to balance as he skidded to a halt, the vans zooming pass and making his hair whipped around. He then shot at their tires and watched as they swerved wildly, crashing into a lamppost and street parked cars.
His veins were pumping with adrenaline as he swung himself off the bike and stalked towards the vans, ripping the doors open and finishing them off one by one. Once he finished the last one with his hidden blade, he wiped the blood off using their jacket before walking back to the bike.
John could go back to the Soup Kitchen, finish up the remaining Bowery Boys and Sokolov’s men. He could go and track Sokolov himself and finish him. He could do all those things, but there will still be people out there wanting to kill him.
The engine was still running as he straddled the bike, his head tilted back towards the sky as the smell of rain hit his nose. His pocket buzzed with a new message, pulling him away from the small moment of stillness.
“I’ve spoken to the Adjudicator. They’re willing to make a deal, but you need to come over,” you sent, “They promise not to shoot you.”
John shook his head before turning the bike around and made his way back to the hotel.
