Whispers of Distant Souls - Ch.14 sneak peek (#1)

Blue’s and Purple’s faces immediately light up with a growing smile, holding each other’s hands in silent awe. Yellow’s, Red’s, and Orange’s faces drop in shock and awe as they stand silently watching Draxum rub his cheek. Splinter points and laughs where Leonardo left him, nudging Casey to look at the pained yokai.

“This is what I receive after stabilizing your mystic energy for over eight hours?” Draxum asks grouchy as he motions for Orange and Red to help him to his feet again.

“You didn’t tell me it would hurt, I felt like I was dying,” Leonardo answered sharply.

Draxum waves off Leonardo’s retort and says, “It is nothing you can’t handle.”

Raphael’s voice echoes, “Forgot he used to be an ass.”

Leonardo snorts in response, a smile crawling up his cheeks before he realizes how it might look to the others in the room.

Purple leans in Yellow’s direction to whisper aloud, “Oh my sweet gardenias, he’s lost it.”

*mischievous cackle* It has begun, bring in the wall!

But seriously, my mind is doing flips and tricks trying to keep up with all the people in this one room. It hasn’t been easy hahaha (that and I’m restraining myself from jumping to the “fun” part (restrain is actually code for stop making it angsty this is not the vibe you’re going for))

Thus Honey and Sis could be imagined going into another of their surprise shortwave worldcasts at 50 watts irradiated power, following the opening folderol of that "Clear the airwaves--clear ALL AIR LANES--for THE BIG BROADCAST!" announcement segueing into the station's theme, no less than Queen's "Radio Ga-Ga."

And just hope and pray as well that the announcement doesn't send Honey and/or Sis into Hilarious Consequences which especially the QSL crowd is sure to take note of in their reception reports. In particular those from Gilly-Gilly Ossenfeffer Katzenellenbogen-by-the-Sea, Mixingham on Sea, and--wait for it--Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

So, uhh, I grew up in southern California and just thought frogs said "ribbit" because that's literally what they say. I had no idea ribbit frogs were limited to my neck of the woods.

Hey what have you been doing lately?

On my way home from D&D this evening, I stopped by a nearby pond to film this, which I will be using in a lecture on Danish amphibians tomorrow morning.

It’s a phenomenally busy time with lots of deadlines and teaching, so I’m very behind on answering asks, as well as basically everything, but it will pass by the end of June and I’ll be able to breathe again!

Jim Henson was determined to use the larger budget of a feature film (1979's "The Muppet Movie") to push the technological limits and capabilities of puppetry. One of the most difficult feats (and one that appears deceptively easy on-screen) was making Kermit ride a bicycle. To pull this off, a Kermit puppet with legs was posed onto the seat and his legs and arms were attached to the pedals and handlebars. An overhead crane with a marionette system held the bicycle through strong strings invisible to the camera, guiding the bicycle forward. The crane and system were out of the camera's frame of vision. Specially made, remote-controlled puppets were placed on the set and controlled by puppeteers out of the frame.

Henson spent an entire day in a 50-gallon steel drum submerged in a pond for the opening scene of Kermit the Frog in the swamp.

When Animal accidentally eats Dr. Bunsen Honeydew's Insta-Grow pills, he memorably balloons through the roof. Henson refused to use a normal puppet on a miniature set to accomplish this effect, so his crew had to construct a gigantic Animal head that measured sixty feet.

The closing reprise of "Rainbow Connection" featured a crowd of more than 250 Muppet characters, virtually every Muppet that had been created up to that point in time. According to Henson archivist Karen Falk: "One hundred thirty-seven puppeteers were enlisted from the Puppeteers of America (along with the regular Muppet performers) to perform every Muppet extant. Prior to the day-long filming of the shot, Henson gave the enthusiastic participants a lesson in the art of cinematic puppetry. Amazingly, it did take just one day." The Muppet Show Fan Club newsletter answered the question of "How did they do it?" They response was "There are 250 puppets in the last shot of the film, and they're all moving. How? One hundred fifty puppeteers in a six foot deep, 17-foot wide pit, that's how. They were recruited through the Los Angeles Guild of The Puppeteers of America and almost every puppeteer west of the Rockies reported for pit duty." (IMDb/Wikipedia)

I saw nothing about Kermit. Nor do I get how that connects to Jay. I also don’t trust solos/antis to report anything without me verifying it.

I think my problem is the fact that he indiscriminately blocks people. It leaves it up to interpretation as to why it was done. Like… tell me that fan wouldn’t have removed everything he deemed insensitive if he’d DM’d them. It would have taken five seconds longer than blocking them and would have made his position really clear (which would go a long way toward stopping the bullying).

But he chooses to get involved in this weirdly personal way with fans and then just lets the chaos play out as if he had nothing to do with it. It makes being his fan feel precarious. If you’re going to skulk around and randomly choose someone to block for reasons known only to you, which then sends hoards of people to attack the fan, why would anyone want to publicly support you? At any moment that hoard will turn on the next person /group you point your finger at.

I don’t know. It just all feels incredibly unhealthy.
