Personally, I think having a move-in fee (of 1 month's rent or so) instead of a deposit is spectacularly evil. While on some level it's more honest than the landlords who try to keep the deposit by any means necessary, it should worry all of us that they're willing to be up front about charging you >$1000 just for the privilege of moving in...
#don't get me started on the application fees#also bless Zillow and their listing history#it doesn't help me any - but it is nice to see that some of these rental houses are listed for more than twice the price they were 10 years#keeps me from questioning my memory too much#*sigh*#rental hunting

lol i applied to live in the remodeled church
#liveblogging life#seriously been talking myself thru the pros/cons ALL WEEK bc it's seriously like 100/150 out of what i wanted to pay#but it's too lovely and i keep comparing it to every other apt i've seen or want to see and coming up wanting#i'm still going to go to my showings tomorrow (today?) bc who knows maybe i'll fall in love w/ something there and decide against it#or maybe i'll get rejected lol i know my credit is still very iffy despite my good rental history and income#idk i just wanted to not waffle about it anymore so i just went ahead and did it!!! which is good bc the other two available units#were snatched up right before i submitted my application lmao#it IS a basement apt so i kind of get why it was literally the last one available#still bitter the two i was very excited about got snatched the day i went in for my showing bc they were 100 cheaper#and i wouldve applied SAME DAY if they'd been available lmao

just had an apartment application denied because the unacreditated ai site that the rental company uses to pre-approve tenants gave me a low rental score....
#no history of evictions or nonpayment or any criminal activity. i got a low score bc i have student loans and only a lil credit bc im 24#and the rental company immediately denied the application bc of it. what if i blew something up.#trash posts

more complaining but easier for me to ignore/funnier:
toured a rental for slaw; it looked great! i really hope she gets it! not going to get my hopes up though! super cute and bright and well maintained upstairs (the kitchen even has a skylight!), and there's an attached garage and a pretty clean walk-out basement below, and the owner seems conscientious. that part wasn't a problem!
took a video of it to send to slaw, sent it, went about my day. a few hours later, unprompted, their parents started sending anxious texts about the basement, and then had a three-way call with us and slaw. "[slaw], you said you didn't want laundry in the basement!" "no, you didn't want me to have laundry in the basement."
#they're like: ohhhhh [slaw] needs to apply at [that big apartment building]!#i've toured [that big apartment building] because i considered living there. it's okay.#notably: i chose to live somewhere else.#the units are small & dim; the windows don't open; the immediate location kinda sucks (trafficky & loud)#i'm glad there's 4 or 5 other big apartment buildings in walking distance she could apply to instead#i don't know why y'all are so fixated on her applying to that specific building#no clue why we keep having 3 way calls about it#like... why are they spending so much time on each rental. she's 90% going to be rejected. just submit the application and move on.#i was going to ask 'why are they even involved at all? we're the ones who're going to help pay for it!' but#i guess it's very wire mother vs cloth mother#they are normally very nice but wow they are struggin' with this non-midwestern housing i think

its nothing a couple ibuprofen and a joint and three energy drinks and a 50 mg edible and two hours straight of head and a drinking binge and more weed and a broken arm and getting the shit beat out of me and some opiates and getting my back blown out and another joint and a bullet to the back of the head wont fix .

I can't read the aj book reviews on goodreads though because I feel like people collectively did not get that the gender thing was A) in service to her other themes not the entire point of the book B) not a girlboss everyone's a woman now thing either
#maybe the idea started like oh what if i just used she pronouns for everyone but the writing is more nuanced than that#it's the empire taking over different cultures it's not like universally a good thing#it's what many of the characters grew up with so it doesn't occur to them that they could be a different gender#it's not a universally bad thing either it's not like the book goes 'oh the empire is wrong not to have two specific genders'#it's just like. in the same way this empire enforces gender and restricts bodily autonomy through constant surveillance#your empire does the same to you. it's just like asking you to question things#but some characters have no problem with their given pronouns. it's all socially constructed that's the point#breq was probably the first time i was really envious of someone's gender though#there's no like. status significance to her pronouns in her culture. she doesn't wear different styles based on it#then you see her having to translate herself to other people's expectations when she's outside of the empire#and she's constantly botching it even after 20 years#never related to someone's experience with gender more#it's like i don't really do that. lol. but you're welcome to interpret me however. it is simply none of my business#i'll be whatever is most convenient when i'm trying to rent a place to stay. assigned woman at rental application#i never agreed to this system it's just a weird cultural quirk that makes my life slightly worse but otherwise isn't important to me

It is a crazy small world in which we live
#two (two!) separate weird coincidences have happened today#i discovered a person I went to highschool with is in charge of managing my rental at the property agents (lol)#and then I was scrolling and saw that a blog I follow has just got to the next stage of applications for a course I was also going for#and like I鈥檝e never spoken to or known this person other than their blog. but clearly we live in the same area. and have the same interests#(I did not get to the next stage. lol. lmfao even)#anyway!
