Yandere Hybrid Town (1) | Only Human
In a world filled with humans and hybrids attempting to find balance with one another, you are but a simple human trying to integrate into the town on the property your late grandparent bequeathed to you. The town just so happens to have a small population of farming hybrids, with hardly any other humans around.
“So you’re the inheritor…(Y/n)? (L/n)?”
“Yes, I have my I.D. if you want to check.”
“..Right….but the owner of the original property was a hybrid…you are not.”
“Not that it matters. But my grandfather’s partner was a Wolf hybrid…They both agreed to give it to me when they both passed.”
“I..see.”
It might be right to call it racism or maybe more accurately it’s specism and the townsfolk aren’t all that keen on hiding it. They openly sneer at you when you do come to town, whispering loudly about what they’ve heard, and rolling their eyes if you have the gall to ask them a question.
“Can I get these bags of mulch in bulk?”
“...so what are ya talkin’ to me for? Just grab ‘em.”
“Your sign says to ‘ask for more at the front desk.’”
“...Fine dirt monkey. How much?”
It doesn’t bother you…sometimes. You mostly spend your days on your property, having picnics in the open fields you now own. Spending time renovating your cottage with all the custom plumbing and electricity you learn to install yourself. Wouldn’t want some unfriendly technician in town doing it instead. Anyways you get into the routine of sustaining yourself in your lonesome working from home and relying on your savings to help you enjoy your new life. That doesn’t stop until the one fateful day…you’re lounging on your deck when you hear something faint. It sounds like crying.
“Waaaaa!”
It sounds like a child…which isn’t unfamiliar, after all your neighbors do seem to be a little family. Of course, they don’t want to talk to you but that’s fine.
“Waaaa!”
It sounds pretty intense but you’re sure it’ll stop soon.
“Waaaaa! Somebody help, please!”
Now it feels wrong to ignore it any longer. You quickly fix yourself to head over, driving the tractor that you ride across your property to the fence that represents the beginning of your neighbor’s property. It was short work to hop over the fence and hear the crying persisting. Running to the back porch of the house, you see a little dog boy crying his heart out.
“I heard you crying what’s wrong?”
The kid starts blubbering wiping at tears and snot on his face. After some calming pats between the ears and some promises to help you can get a clear picture.
“Mama fell ‘ver and she won’t wake up!”
You run inside to find exactly that. A dog woman face down on the floor while the soup on the stove boils out and whatever’s in the oven beginning to smoke. Stopping the appliances you flip over the woman in search of a heartbeat and breathing. Thankfully you find it and ask the little boy where you can lay her down. He points you to the bedroom down the hall passing by another bedroom and a bathroom.
Once you’ve laid her down, check her temperature, and decide in your not-so-expert opinion that she’s suffering from a fever. Assuring the little dog boy you have him help you carry some cold water and a rag to place on her head. While making sure she drinks some water, you finally get to talking to the little dog boy who’s started to calm down now.
“That was real brave of you, good job for asking for help.”
“Big brother always said I gotta since I’m too tiny to do much myself.”
“Well, I thought you were very helpful and you don’t seem that tiny to me.”
“Thanks!”
“No problem! My name’s (Y/n).”
“And my name’s Titan! By the way (Y/n) I’m real hungry!”
That’s how you ended up cleaning the dishes, Titan’s mother started and using what you could to make something new. You stuck with one of your old family recipes, relying on your memory the best you could to avoid another charred disaster. Eventually, you finish up able to set a plate in front of Titan who is more than happy to dig in.
“More! More!”
“Okay Titan just a little bit more but you can’t eat it all we’ve got to save some.”
“Whyyyy!?”
“Because your mom hasn’t eaten yet and I’m sure your brother will want some when he gets home–”
“But he’s never aroun we’ll be waiting forever for him to come!”
Creak.
“Titan who is this?”
The new voice comes from a much larger dog man with a sturdy build, sun-kissed skin, and overalls barely hanging off his shoulders. His ears are narrowed back and his shoulders are hunched as he easily towers over you. With Titan’s help, you explain how you came to help and that his mother had fainted, likely from the fever she had. When you show him to her, his bared teeth and impending growl quiet down. Fussing over her as he checks for any sign that you might be lying. Finding that you’re not, he skeptically accepts the meal you made as you alternate watching over her and entertaining Titan–who’s far too chipper for a pup ready for bed.
“Hey uh, wanted to apolog’ze for earlier”
“For what?!”
“Fer how I acted when you’re just helpin’ out.”
“Oh, it’s okay! I’m just happy no one’s hurt.”
“I’m also sorry for misjudging you. I think I had the wrong impression bout ya.”
As you continue to chat with the young dog man–Tank you both work together to finish up whatever chores his mom would usually do. Between you both Titan is convinced to finally get some sleep if it’s in your lap close to his mom. Tank suggests you stay over bashfully offering his bed if you need it. You decline, encouraging him to get some much-needed rest considering he was working on the farm tomorrow.
“A-a-are you sure you don’t want to stay in a bed? I feel like it’s the least we could do.”
“No worries Tank, I’m going to watch over your mom until this fever breaks. Besides I don’t have the heart to move Titan now.”
“Fair I guess. Hopefully, I’ll see ya tomorrow?”
“Yeah if I’m not still here in the morning you can come to my place anytime.”
His fluffy tail wags a lot harder than he likes at that.
“R-really?”
“Yeah, anytime!”
With another ‘thank you’ he’s off to bed. It isn’t until sunrise that the fever breaks and the dog-hybrid mother is coming to. Assuring her that her boys and the food she left in the oven are not burning the house she calms down to thank you.
“Oh thank you thank you I don’t know what I would have done without you!”
Where you’ll have to fight her off from her barrage of kisses, hugs, and propositions to stay long enough for her to cook something for you to take home, as much as you wanted to stay and indulge in her acts of thanks, you missed your bed and it was plenty exhausting now that you were being spoken to positively. Convincing her that you were such a short drive away that she didn’t need to keep you too much longer and after promising that she and her boys were welcome anytime you could finally go home.
“You promise?”
“Yes, Miss Tiffany I promise, anytime you’d like.”
“Just not now?”
“Yes, not now so please get some rest!”
Back in the comfort of your home, everything is more or less the same except for the recently obsessed friendly neighbors who make all the quiet time you used to have nonexistent.
“Wake Up! Wake Up! Let’s play!”
“Egh Titan how did you get in here?”
“Through your doggy door!”
“But I don’t have one!”
“Now you do!”
Thus begins the first few to fall for the lone human in this hybrid town. Hardly shy about their newly discovered attraction as they fill their dull hours up with time next to you. Lucky them as your neighbors they’re the only ones privy to your addictive affection and comforting scent.
“Oh! I was about to drive over to drop off Titan!”
“What a coincidence! We were just coming over to have dinner at yours!”
“Huh?”
“Well, you did say we can come and thank you anytime!”
“So we figured why not now!”
“In fact, maybe every week we come over to yours and you come over to ours!”
“I mean I guess-?”
“Wonderful Titan, Tank clear the kitchen I’m going to make this dinner the best yet!”
“Yes’m!” “Yes’m
The Dog hybrid family next door is all too eager to take up all of your time. Since the moment you moved in they’ve been eager to truly get to know you, woefully settling with the distant wafts of your scent during a favorable breeze. Unlike others in the town their curiosity for the human was a positive one blaming it on their all too friendly instincts they couldn’t deny the urge they got to close to the distance between you two. But alas everyone in the town was so averse to the idea they were pushed off the desire for far too long but after your sweet words and intentions, they’d be foolish not to return the affection.
“(Y/n) if you’d like me to cut the grass, I don’t mind.”
“That’s really sweet, Tank but I told myself I wouldn’t allow myself to sit back and let others do all the work.”
His tail droops at that. “Ah I see.”
“But you won’t tell me to go away will you (Y/n)? After I made that doggy door and everything.”
“You just chewed a hole in my door and I’m not saying you can’t stop by Tank I just don’t want it to be because you’re doing more work.”
His tail is wagging a mile a minute again. “I don’t mind if it’s for you!”
With your canine hybrid neighbors so close it’s hard to forget you were ever left alone. Now quiet and sometimes confrontational trips are filled with at least one member of the family accompanying you. Willing to bargain at stores for you or impressively growl when the cashier’s being a tad too snippy. It does make you nervous when the tiny Titan politely asks the nosy bird-woman who had the nerve to whisper about you to a ‘nice chat’ in the alley between the store. Returning with tufts of feathers and blood in his baby teeth. Or how Mama Tiff will oh so politely mention her bloodhound heritage at the fox bullies that hang around your car. Or when Tank all too eagerly pulls you into his side when he finds you cornered by the snake librarian.
“Back off my human!”
After any confrontation, you’ll ask your questions. Head on or round about they’ll all only smile at you, tail wagging wildly behind them. As if they’re proud of the slight fear in your eyes when you ask what that was about.
“We just want to protect you! You are only human after all!”

Today was a very good day.
We went to tour Michigan Central Station, and it was spectacular. This train station was the main transit hub in Detroit from 1914 to 1988. If you aren't from here, it's important that you know it was owned by a local billionaire who just let it rot. It was in horrible shape, flooded, every window broken, and pillaged of all of its relics.
But, while it was a sad broken building, it was also home to tons of amazing graffiti art. Ford bought the building in 2018 and began a huge undertaking of restoring it. I could write pages about all the amazing restoration. Thousands of people put in millions of hours. I figured all the graffiti was lost to the renovation.
I was so excited to see that they saved an entire hallway of the original artwork, and I saw this exhibit today.
Here is the text if it's hard to read:
GRAFFITI PRESERVATION
From 1988 to 2018, Michigan Central Station became an important location for graffiti artists who made the building their canvas. There was great respect for the graffiti found in The Station, including early work from Detroit's own Fel3000ft- who says he learned and honed his craft here - and many other prominent artists.
As The Station changed hands, previous owners took steps to remove the graffiti, in some instances damaging the building's walls through improper cleaning techniques. Under Ford's ownership, the significance of this art was not lost on the restoration team. Local artists helped to assess each piece and to ascribe credit to the creators of the graffiti art where possible. The College of Creative Studies documented the work for archival purposes Italian Renaissance art experts who specialize in fresco preservation advised on how best to remove panels of fragile plaster for safekeeping
The guidelines for landmark restoration required that The Station be returned to its original state, but it was important to the team that some of the art remain in place to preserve this chapter of the building's life. They successfully argued for permission to keep some of the graffiti intact, and as you leave through the southeast exit, you will find a hallway where some original graffiti remains.
I love this vibrant city, and I'm excited that if we have to have everything owned by billionaires, that we switched this building to one who has reverence for Detroit and all that makes it beautiful.

Hi! Hello! I'm not sure if I can make a request, but if I can here's my request!
Can you do an LED mask reader who has a workshop underneath the base that the 141 doesn't know about (except Price, he approved it he just didn't tell the others, he didn't tell Shepherd too)
And when someone breaks something (like a gadget) they tell them to come to their workshop so they can fix it
It's okay if you don't do this! I just really like the idea :)
YES YES YES PLS THIS IS SO CUTE!! (Also PLEASE don't be afraid to invade my askbox, it's always open for brainrot, requests and the such~) Unfortunately I couldn't really incorporate the mask into this, just reader being a lil gremlin I hope that's okay 😭
The base has bunkers in case of an emergency and evacuation, but there are some passages and dead-ends that have become completely neglected. Price doesn't know how the hell you caught wind of those abandoned rooms but with his authority combined with Laswell's, they manage to allocate a space for you without the knowledge of any stuffy generals like Shepherd.
While it takes some months until anyone else in the 141 is invited to your underground workshop, they do know something is up. One minute you're around and then the next you've disappeared and unreachable (the first few weeks when you cleaned up the bunkers there was absolutely no signal underground). However they had enough faith in you and Price's lack of concern was signal enough to calm down.
It was only when Soap had come back from a mission, he could only groan in despair at his battered hardware. He's normally a clean demolitions expert, but a mission going south quicker than he could blink meant that his typical tools had succumbed to the explosions he set off. Unable to say no to Johnny's pout as he looked around at everyone like a kicked puppy, you eventually give him a reassuring pat on the back.
"See me downstairs, I'll fix it."
... what?
Johnny - as well as Gaz and Ghost who watched the exchange - just stare at you silently as you walk away. Downstairs? You mean the run down evacuation tunnels that are so run down and poorly maintained they're probably more of a death trap than whatever could be up above? But sure enough, you walk in the direction to one of the known entrances to the bunkers and they hastily chase after you (Price also following a little behind because he just knows this is going to be entertaining).
When they find you downstairs, even Price is in awe of what you've done with the place. It's filled with various forms of high-end tech. An impressive blend of both software running automatically on clean screens and gritty hardware that's sprawled across various workbenches and occasionally forgotten on the ground. There's only a singular hanging light at the center of the ceiling, but with a fresh bulb and the ambient light of all your other technology, the place is lit more than enough.
"Bloody hell..." Kyle pulls away from the rest of the 141 and joins you, his eyes following the curves and dips of a nearby piece of machinery he has never seen before but the general shape has him half convinced it's a bloody bomb.
"Like what you see?" You turn to the rest of the task force. You can't stop yourself from straightening your back in pride as the boys were clearly in awe of your handiwork.
"You were hiding this from us?" Simon asks. His voice always has a bite but you could tell that he was just stupefied, his question not just directed to you as he shoots a look to Price who stifles a smug smirk.
"We had some spare space," Price explains. "Thought it could use the renovation."
"Renovation? You rebuilt this from the ground up," Johnny exclaims, taking in the room as if it was a hidden hoard of treasures.
"Say, you'd let us pay you a visit down here, yeah?" Kyle turns back to you, eyes gleaming. The rest of the task force join in their own way. Johnny's nodding enthusiastically, John cocks an eyebrow at you, and even Simon tilts his head in curiosity, waiting for your next words.
"Hm..." you look away, bringing a finger to your chin and tapping it in contemplation. Eventually you let out a huff as you snatch Johnny's broken gear from his hands and start shooing them out. "I'll have to think about it. I'll get back to you in five to seven business days."
Johnny starts animatedly protesting but lets himself be pushed by you out of the door. Kyle laughs while Price hushes them all. Below all the commotion was an underlying understanding and agreement. You don't even need to say it aloud but they'll all certainly be crashing at your underground workshop and they were more than welcome to. In truth, as much as you loved having your private workshop, the only thing that could make it better was entrusting it with the dearest people in your lives.

Please, I beg, a director's commentary on Ancaux or Sexual Trauma Clipshow. Also, P.S, thank you for being the first to plunge into the untapped territory of Phlegm.
PHLEGM MENTION!!!!!!!!!!! ok i can do a little for both :) for you
first is chapter 5 of ancaux which i weirdly have a lot to say about
This apartment has become a hole. No sunlight, no air, no food besides a surplus bag of stale circus peanuts.
when i was little there was this extremely old grocery store in my town, like truly it was 1999 and everything looked like it hadn’t been changed or cleaned since the early 60s, and the most vivid memory i have is this lazy susan of candies near the cash registers and exactly at eye level with me were bags of dusty stale circus peanuts. like the weird orange marshmallow candies?? i remember feeling so. upset by them. and thinking like. this is something a person with no hope left would eat.
i always go back to those circus peanuts when i’m writing a person at their wit’s end.
“Alrighty then…” The employee peers a little deeper into her cart. “Heh. Must be some project you’re working on.” “Home renovations.” “We got a beautiful collection of wall finishes in the paint department if you’re interested.” “I’m not.”
i rewrote this interaction soooooo many times, i had so many different plans for it. originally i had devi ask the guy something like “i’m going camping do you have anything that could kill a bipedal feral dog in one hit” and he would be like “oooh let me consult our expert!” and would lead her to nny. i thought it was too gimmicky and fanservice-y, and it also kept backing me into a corner where i wouldn’t know where to go from there.
something about me is i write little clues in everything bc i love dramaturgy and i love making sure stories are watertight. i put the little mention of the paint department in hopes that maybe readers would be able to connect it to the previous chapter (the little itty bitty one where nny is painting) and figure out ahead of the reveal that nny works at the hardware store??? i truly don’t know if it was obvious from jump or no one even thought about it, bc at this point i didn’t have a tumblr yet and was only posting to ao3 and instagram and had NOOOOOOOO reader interaction. so! who knows. but you can keep that knowledge in your pocket for future chapters, that i’m always dropping lil hints :)
Devi stands in uncomfortable silence while the register sings a little waiting tune. She looks up, into the eye of the camera mounted above the register’s display, and watches herself in the monitor while a message below it flashes RECORDING IN PROGRESS.
one of my first days living in the city i went to a home depot and bought a bunch of sharp things bc i was working on a cosplay and needed to carve a bunch of foam, and i got ID’d for all of it and i was so so fresh to the city and so young and probably very high and just felt mortified, like i just stared at myself in the monitor being like “you’re not cut out for this world” HAHAHAHAHAH anyway. that stuck with me.
The two of them stand at the same height, almost elbow to elbow, wearing distant familiarity and abject horror as they stare into each other’s pixelated faces. Devi watches him in the display as she reaches into her pocket, produces her wallet, pulls out her ID, hands it to him with a shaking hand. He punches in her birthdate without having to look.
somethin else i love is vagueness n ambiguity in writing. i haaaaate when writers spoon feed things to their audience bc it implies TO ME that they don’t trust them or think that they’re smart enough to connect the dots. it really offends me!!!! i made sure i didn’t ever explicitly state that devi is interacting with nny because in a traumatic moment like that it’s hard for my brain to even really put words or a name to it, if that makes sense?? i wanted to try and evoke that feeling of like, you know what’s happening and it’s so bad you can’t even really say it.
Her heart is beating fast against her ribcage, but maybe out of exhilaration more than panic or paranoia. She saw him. He was smaller, more human-like than her brain had crafted him into over the years.
you ever have an absolute mortal enemy, like an ex or a bully in school, and then you get a glimpse of them years later, after you spent so much time molding them into like an evil dastardly goblin in your brain, and they’re just like. a person?? with other shit going on, just like you? and it kind of feels like. huh. okay. and you can suddenly move on??? a special kind of spooky.
and now here’s a lil from stixxx :)
Penetration is penetration, Johnny. What difference does a few inches above or below the belt make, in the grand scheme of things? “That’s a gross oversimplification.”
i remember so vividly getting this little bit of dialogue in my head during work and writing it in my notes app to remember it. it sat at the bottom of the doc for MONTHS (i started writing stixxx back in june 2023 and it was in a much different place) and when i finally was able to place it into the fic proper it felt :) so good
The girl’s been splayed out on her back, propped up on a cinder block that places her a foot off the ground. Her arms are pulled over her head, both wrists zip tied to their own blocks. The same for her legs. With her wavering strength it seems hard for her to keep steady; she shakes visibly on camera.
this whole setup is based on a jthm strip i wrote when i was 13 after /i/ was watching robot wars while eating a chick-o-stick (i was addicted to chick-o-sticks for a while. and charleston chews.)
Her eyes pop open. Purple, syrupy vomit bursts from under her gag and through her nose and fills her throat, stopping up her windpipe.
fun fact about me! i was once severely emetophobic! scariest thing in the world to me! i think the reason i write about vom so much is because 1) it used to evoke such fear in me and i know it does for a lot of people 2) it’s such an insane pretty involuntary thing we do as creatures??? and i think it is one of most vulnerable states to be in tbh. i still think it is icky and i would prefer to never interface with it in person ever but! endlessly fascinating to write about ????
He meanders down the hall. Opening doors. Closing doors. Dining room. Linen closet. Foyer. Staircase leading to the ceiling—how original.
staircase leading to the ceiling is a reference to this little lady at the winchester house
i know lots of ppl make connections between 777 and house of leaves, but i always assumed the influence was very much attributed to the winchester house since jv grew up in san jose (n because jthm predates hol!) those wacky stairs are my favorite part of the whole house. the first time i saw them i felt unease that stuck with me forever :)
Since when do we have a ball pit? My little film screening was only to illustrate just how much you’ve suppressed through the years. But at some point you have to jump in, Nny. Swim through the proverbial multicolored plastic balls of your memory. Fish out all the band-aids and… and missing socks and… little parachuting army men. Johnny stares into the gaping maw of the in-ground ball pit that’s apparently in his house now. “That one got away from you a little bit.” Metaphors ain’t really my thing.
when i wrote this i was like “i am so funny” and i read it now and am still like “i am so funny”
i love to write rev meat. he’s so fascinating to me. i love that he was introduced and barely explained right before jthm wrapped up. so much mystery. what a freak.
thank you for ur interest :) i love to talk

I’m gonna ask you this question because you’re the SCU expert/die-hard fan of the movies, did Tom change careers? I ask because the first movie Maddie makes a quote about Tom being a manager and then the second movie does really reference him being a cop. Do you think that he changed careers?
Hello, my dear!❤️✨
First, I must apologize. While I 100% appreciate the compliment made about being an SCU fan, I do not think that it's wise to put me on such a high pedestal. I love these movies, but I'm an expert. I’m just a fan of his deep love for these movies. Sorry, I had to get that out of the way. I do appreciate what you're trying to say.
Now we can get to your question.
You are correct: there's a line of dialogue made in the first film that caught my attention. Towards the end of the film, we see Tom and Maddie in their newly renovated dining room and painting the walls. Tom asks his wife a question and Maddie responds with, "Yes Mr. Manager" before they have a play fight with paint. This happens right before (I'll leave a link to the clip HERE if you're interested). I don’t necessarily think that this line is a joke (like the equivalent of calling someone bossy when managing a project). It’s really 50/50. If it is a joke, then I think that the conversation that Tom and Maddie had about getting closure on fulfilling a wish is a good indicator of him seeking new aspirations.
In the second film, there aren't enough references evident to support that Tom is still sheriff of the town. What we do see is that Wade has taken on more responsibilities. Wade sits in the sheriff's car at the speed trap, his uniform is slightly different than the first movie, and he makes a comment about being the active sheriff for the weekend. Keep in mind that there are other sheriffs that work in the small town as well. It's not just Tom and Wade. When returning to Earth, Dr. Robotnik makes a sly comment on how he wanted to seek revenge on the Wachowski family. Even though Dr. Robotnik references Tom as the "idiot sheriff," keep in mind that he was stuck on the Mushroom Planet for nine months. A lot can happen in nine months.
As soon as I saw your ask, I've made sure to skim the Prequill comic too. In the first story, Tom and Wade are on an ice fishing trip on the edge of town. Tom makes a comment about slowing down and relaxing more. Tom's has had enough adventuring while saving Sonic's life. Wade is eager to have more adventure in his life and practically envies Sonic and Tom's relationship. Yes, Tom tags along in Wade's need to respond to a bank heist robbery in a neighboring town, but he lets Wade call the shots as he keeps an eye on him.
With the quote of the first film, Tom's desire to settle down and relax more in the comic, and Tom's eagerness to vacation and do more hobby-like tasks, I think that Tom has potentially changed careers... or on his way of stepping down as Greenhills' Sheriff. I've kind of assumed that he was out the door of being a sheriff since the first film. In the novels, it makes an effort to state that Tom will do odd jobs around town. Sometimes he'll paint houses, other times he fixes and cleans gutters. He's known to fix cars once in a blue moon... usual handyman stuff.
In short, I think it’s safe to say that he might have changed careers... or became a Stay-at-Home dad to be there with his son(s) by the third film. Then again, these are just my thoughts. Maybe even more of a headcanon at most. I definitely believe that we're seeing him step away from that title and being Sonic's parent more.
I hope that this answers your question, my dear!

One of the leading daily Helsingin Sanomat's most widely read stories on Monday examined the problem of Finland's plummeting birth rate and shrinking pension funds.
Trade unions are currently negotiating pension reforms at the behest of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (NCP). Simultaneously, a working group led by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the Ministry of Finance is also mulling pension reform. The report is due by the end of January 2025.
The reform is driven by Finland's low birth rate, which has fallen from 1.9 to below 1.3. Without immigration, a rate of 2.1 is needed to maintain the population. With the current birth rate, the reform is necessary to keep the pension system functional for younger generations, according to the HS report.
Negotiations aim to achieve an annual adjustment of around one billion euros and to ensure the stability of the agreed contribution level through some automatic mechanism. Options include raising contributions, cutting benefits or boosting birth rates and immigration.
Experts from the Finnish Centre for Pensions (ETK) have calculated that a shortfall caused by declining birth rates could be offset by increasing pension contributions by about one percentage point.
But if the decline in birth rates is not addressed in time, pension contributions would need to be increased by 2–3 percentage points in the future.
"Alternatively, the scale of the issue could be addressed by reducing pension benefits by about three percent," the CEO of ETK, Mikko Kautto, told HS.
Last spring, Kautto told business daily Kauppalehti that the pension system's financing situation could be balanced if annual net immigration were 30,000 people or the total fertility rate rose to 1.5–1.6.
Finland addressed rising life expectancy in its 2017 pension reform. The system links retirement age to life expectancy, with the minimum age currently at 64 years and 9 months, rising to 68–69 years for those born in 2000.
Criticism for plans to cut household tax credit
The government aims to save 100 million euros by tightening the conditions to receive tax credits for household expenses starting next year. The proposed changes have been opposed by multiple organisations, according to a report by Aamulehti.
The plan includes reducing the maximum deduction amount from 2,250 euros to 1,600 euros and lowering reimbursement rates from 40 percent to 35 percent. The out-of-pocket share would increase from 100 euros to 150 euros.
Finland's tax credit for household expenses provides deductions that allow individuals to claim a percentage of costs for services such as cleaning, childcare, nursing care and renovations performed in their homes.
Several organisations, including the Taxpayers' Association of Finland, the Federation of Finnish Enterprises, the Finnish Homeowners' Association and the Finnish Commerce Federation among others have opposed the move.
They argue that the cutbacks could drive the growth of the black market, negatively impact employment in the construction sector, lead people to delay necessary home repairs and make it harder for the elderly to manage in their homes.
However, the VATT Institute for Economic Research said household tax credit mostly benefits high-income households, costing around half a billion euros annually. They view the proposed reduction as a suitable measure for budget adjustments and suggest further cuts could be considered.
Study: Newspapers most trusted media
Tabloid Ilta-Sanomat reported on a recent study commissioned by the trade association News Media Finland (Uutismedian Liitto) that found newspapers to be the most trusted media across all age groups.
Nearly four out of five respondents considered printed or digital newspapers reliable. Television channels and their online services were trusted by three out of five respondents, while just over two out of five found radio channels and their websites trustworthy.
Social media, YouTubers, and blogs were trusted by only 1–5 percent of respondents.
The study also revealed that nearly 90 percent of respondents prioritise reliability as the most valued quality for news and current affairs media, followed by expertise and independence. Newspapers ranked high in all categories.
The survey, conducted in August by IRO Research, included 1,000 Finnish adults and has a margin of error of over three percentage points.

How to ensure your kitchen remodel adds value to your home
A well-planned kitchen remodel can significantly boost your home’s value, making it one of the best investments for homeowners. However, achieving a return on this investment requires thoughtful planning and smart choices. Here are some expert tips to ensure your kitchen remodel adds value to your home.
1. Layout and flow
Efficient flow ensures your kitchen is easy to navigate and enjoyable to use, which buyers find appealing. Aim for the "work triangle" rule, where the fridge, stove, and sink are easily accessible to one another. A functional layout also makes cooking and cleaning easier, adding practical value to the space.
2. Invest in quality materials
Quality materials not only look better but also last longer. Focus on durable countertops, solid cabinetry, and high-grade flooring. Engineered quartz countertops, for example, are both resilient and stylish, while soft-close cabinets bring that premium touch that buyers appreciate.
3. Focus on energy efficiency
Energy-efficient appliances and lighting appeal to environmentally-conscious buyers and help lower utility bills. Choose appliances with ENERGY STAR ratings, and consider installing LED lighting throughout the space.
4. Choose neutral, timeless design elements
Trendy designs date quickly. Choose neutral colours - whites, greys, or beiges - which have broad appeal and allow future homeowners to envision the space as their own. Timeless materials like subway tiles or classic shaker cabinets can ensure the kitchen feels stylish for years to come.
5. Add ample storage
Buyers love storage, especially in the kitchen. Consider pull-out shelves, deep drawers for pots and pans, and built-in solutions for maximum efficiency. Kitchen islands with built-in storage are a great way to add space without compromising on style.
6. Improve lighting
Lighting can dramatically change the feel of a kitchen. Ensure there’s a combination of task lighting, ambient lighting, and accent lighting to create a welcoming, functional space. Under-cabinet lighting can make food prep easier, while pendant lights over an island add a designer touch.
7. Smart kitchens
Modern buyers appreciate technology. Consider adding a few smart kitchen features. Touchless faucets, smart lighting and WiFi-enabled appliances make the kitchen feel more contemporary. These additions are relatively low-cost and enhance the appeal.

How to Find Expert Bathroom Renovators in Eltham
Renovating a bathroom can be a transformative experience, enhancing both the functionality and aesthetic of one of the most important spaces in your home. In Eltham, a suburb known for its picturesque settings and charming homes, finding the right expert bathroom renovator is crucial to ensuring a successful renovation project. This guide will walk you through the steps to find top-notch bathroom renovators in Eltham, offering practical tips and insights to make your search as smooth as possible.
1. Define Your Renovation Goals
Before you start your search for a bathroom renovator, it’s essential to have a clear idea of what you want to achieve with your renovation. Are you looking to completely overhaul your bathroom, or are you interested in smaller updates? Consider factors like:
Design Preferences: Modern, traditional, or a mix of styles.
Functional Needs: Additional storage, upgraded fixtures, or better lighting.
Budget: Determine how much you’re willing to invest in the renovation.
Having a detailed vision will help you communicate your needs effectively to potential renovators and ensure they understand your expectations.
2. Research Local Bathroom Renovators
Start your search by looking for bathroom renovators in Eltham. You can use a variety of resources:
Online Directories and Listings: Websites like Yelp, Yellow Pages, and Google Maps offer lists of local renovators with customer reviews and ratings.
Social Media: Platforms like Facebook and Instagram often feature local businesses and can provide insights into their work.
Home Improvement Websites: Sites like Houzz and HomeAdvisor can connect you with professionals and showcase their portfolios.
3. Check Credentials and Experience
When evaluating potential renovators, consider the following:
Licensing and Certification: Ensure the renovator holds the necessary licenses and certifications required in Victoria. This indicates they meet industry standards and regulations.
Experience: Look for renovators with significant experience in bathroom renovations. A long track record often reflects expertise and reliability.
Specializations: Some renovators may specialize in certain styles or types of renovations. Choose one whose expertise aligns with your project goals.
4. Review Portfolios and References
Reviewing a renovator’s portfolio is crucial to assessing their workmanship and style. Ask for examples of previous bathroom renovations they’ve completed. Pay attention to:
Quality of Work: Check for clean finishes, attention to detail, and overall craftsmanship.
Variety of Projects: A diverse portfolio indicates flexibility and experience with different styles and requirements.
Client Feedback: Request references from past clients to gain insights into their experiences and satisfaction with the renovator’s work.
5. Request Quotes and Compare
Once you’ve narrowed down your list of potential renovators, request detailed quotes from each. A thorough quote should include:
Scope of Work: A detailed description of the renovation tasks and materials.
Timeline: An estimated timeline for project completion.
Cost Breakdown: Clear pricing for labor, materials, and any additional expenses.
Comparing quotes will help you understand the market rate and ensure you’re getting a fair price for the work.
6. Ask the Right Questions
When meeting with renovators, asking the right questions can help you gauge their suitability for your project:
What is your approach to project management and communication?
How do you handle unexpected issues or changes during the renovation?
What warranties or guarantees do you offer on your work?
Can you provide a detailed contract outlining all aspects of the renovation?
Their responses will give you a sense of their professionalism and how they manage projects.
7. Verify Insurance and Safety Measures
Ensure the renovator has adequate insurance coverage, including public liability and workers’ compensation. This protects you in case of accidents or damage during the renovation. Additionally, inquire about their safety measures and protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
8. Trust Your Instincts
Finally, trust your instincts when choosing a bathroom renovator. The right professional should make you feel confident and comfortable throughout the renovation process. Consider their communication style, responsiveness, and overall demeanor.
Conclusion
Finding the right bathroom renovator in Eltham involves careful research and consideration. By defining your goals, researching local experts, reviewing their work, and asking the right questions, you’ll be well-equipped to choose a renovator who can bring your vision to life. A successful renovation not only enhances your bathroom but also adds value to your home, making the effort to find the right professional well worth it.

How to Choose the Right Mosaic Tiles for Your Home
The sun was barely peeking over the horizon when I set out on my mission. Armed with a cup of coffee and a newfound determination, I was ready to tackle the daunting task of choosing the perfect mosaic tiles for my home renovation project. Little did I know that my visit to a tile shop in Singapore would turn into an enlightening adventure, filled with discoveries that would transform not just my home, but my entire approach to interior design.
The Overwhelming World of Mosaic Tiles
As I pushed open the door of the tile shop, I was immediately engulfed by a kaleidoscope of colors, patterns, and textures. Mosaic tiles of every imaginable variety lined the walls and floors, creating a dizzying display that left me both excited and overwhelmed.
"First time choosing mosaic tiles?" a friendly voice asked, cutting through my bewilderment. I turned to see Sarah, the shop owner, smiling knowingly at me.
"Is it that obvious?" I laughed, feeling a bit sheepish.
"Don't worry," Sarah reassured me. "By the time you leave this tile shop in Singapore, you'll be an expert in choosing the perfect mosaic tiles for your home. Let's start with the basics, shall we?"
Understanding the Basics: Material Matters
Sarah led me to a display showcasing various types of mosaic tiles. "The first step in choosing the right mosaic tiles is understanding the different materials available," she explained.
We examined glass mosaic tiles, their surfaces gleaming under the shop lights. "Glass mosaic tiles are perfect for adding a touch of luxury and light to any space," Sarah noted. "They're great for bathrooms and kitchens because they're water-resistant and easy to clean."
Next, we moved on to ceramic and porcelain mosaic tiles. "These are the workhorses of the tile world," Sarah said. "Durable, versatile, and available in countless designs, they're suitable for almost any area of your home."
Finally, we looked at natural stone mosaic tiles. "These bring a piece of nature into your home," Sarah explained. "They're unique and add warmth, but require more maintenance than other types."
As I ran my fingers over the different textures, I began to appreciate the unique qualities of each material. The choice, I realized, wasn't just about aesthetics, but also about practicality and lifestyle.
The Color Conundrum: Setting the Mood
With a better understanding of materials, we moved on to the next crucial aspect: color. "Color can make or break a space," Sarah said, gesturing to a wall of mosaic tiles arranged in a mesmerizing color gradient.
"Think about the mood you want to create in each room," she advised. "Cool blues and greens can create a calming atmosphere in a bathroom, while warm terra cottas and ochres can make a kitchen feel cozy and inviting."
Sarah showed me how to use color wheels and mood boards to create harmonious color schemes. She also introduced me to the concept of using neutral mosaic tiles as a base and adding pops of color through accent tiles.
"Remember," she added, "light plays a crucial role in how colors appear. Always take samples home and view them in the actual space before making a final decision."
Size and Pattern: The Art of Visual Impact
As we delved deeper into the world of mosaic tiles, Sarah introduced me to the impact of size and pattern. "The size of your mosaic tiles can dramatically affect the perception of space," she explained.
We looked at tiny mosaic tiles, no bigger than my thumbnail, and larger ones the size of my palm. "Smaller tiles can make a space feel more intricate and detailed, while larger ones can make a room feel more spacious," Sarah said.
She then showed me how different patterns could create various effects. "Herringbone patterns can add a sense of movement, while basket weave patterns create a more structured look," she explained, demonstrating each pattern with sample boards.
"Don't be afraid to mix and match," Sarah encouraged. "Combining different sizes and patterns of mosaic tiles can create stunning, unique designs."
Practical Considerations: Beyond Aesthetics
As our tour of the tile shop in Singapore continued, Sarah emphasized the importance of practical considerations. "Choosing the right mosaic tiles isn't just about looks," she said. "You need to think about durability, maintenance, and safety too."
We discussed slip resistance for bathroom floors, stain resistance for kitchen backsplashes, and durability for high-traffic areas. Sarah introduced me to concepts like the Porcelain Enamel Institute (PEI) rating for tile durability and the importance of choosing the right grout.
"And don't forget about your budget," Sarah added. "Mosaic tiles can range from affordable to luxury prices. But remember, there are clever ways to use more expensive tiles as accents while using budget-friendly options for larger areas."
Bringing It All Together: Creating Your Vision
As our journey through the tile shop neared its end, Sarah had one final piece of advice. "The key to choosing the right mosaic tiles is to have a clear vision for your space," she said. "Think about how the room will be used, the overall style of your home, and how you want to feel when you're in the space."
She encouraged me to create a mood board, combining tile samples with fabric swatches, paint colors, and images of furniture and decor. "This will help you see how everything works together and ensure your mosaic tiles enhance your overall design," she explained.
The Journey Continues: From Tile Shop to Home Sweet Home
As I left the tile shop in Singapore, my head was spinning with ideas and inspiration. What had started as a daunting task had turned into an exciting journey of discovery. I had learned that choosing the right mosaic tiles was about more than just picking something pretty – it was about creating a harmonious, functional, and personal space.
Armed with samples, a mood board, and newfound knowledge, I was ready to transform my home. The mosaic tiles I chose would not just cover my floors and walls; they would tell my story, reflect my style, and create the perfect backdrop for the life I wanted to live.
So, if you find yourself standing at the threshold of a tile shop, feeling overwhelmed by the world of mosaic tiles, remember this: every tile tells a story. Your job is to find the ones that tell yours. Happy tiling!
