i had a horse for a few months when i was a kid but you don't even want to know the redneck solution we had for keeping him before my mom put her foot down lmao we don't have a barn set up for that, they're all full of tractors and combines

Around the base of our pens, we install wooden base boards that go about a foot down. We attach the fencing to this but it also helps prevent things digging in, and the birds from digging out. They really love making dust bathing scrapes against walls, and they'll do it up against raw fence if there's no boards, which can lead to broken toenails when they catch. Unfortunately for me, digging trenches is terrible and the hardest part of pen building. We have just 1 left to do though! Should be finished by this weekend!
