Based on an elongated U-shaped floorplan, our Villa JM presents a secretive stone face to the world, revealing only a tantalizing glimpse of its inner world in the shape of its central courtyard.

Inspired by the location, an extensive wooded site in the south of the Netherlands, we discreetly positioned expanses of glass to offer our clients the best of the natural views, while closed volumes safeguard their privacy. Natural stone and wood add depth to our elementary one-story design, which pairs sober straight lines and monumental volumes with seductive curves and sinuous glass walls.

Woodland Retreat From the road, Villa JM is a closed stone rectangle, pierced only by one large opening. This monumental opening reveals its inner courtyard garden, giving a hint of the warm interior.

By raising the entire building, including all terraces, some 40cm above ground level, we add to its monumentality and presence in the landscape, while providing the villa with several integrated terraces. The glass-walled courtyard garden translates the surrounding landscape into a domestic context. A small annex houses the bike garage, dog’s quarters and covered parking.

The Lightness of Being While the heavy stone volumes and austere straight lines recall a serene retreat, the curved lines and glass walls evoke the lightness of being. The latter emerges especially in the living room, which is bounded entirely by glass. Only one small section, detailed in the facade in richly veined marble, is closed. Simple white plaster surfaces and carefully crafted built-in furniture elements enhance the uncluttered esthetic.

Winkelcentrum Zuidplein is een groot, overdekt winkelcentrum in Rotterdam Zuid. Het winkelgedeelte is niet op grondniveau maar op de eerste "etage"; op grondniveau bevindt zich een grote parkeergarage in twee lagen met ongeveer 1400 parkeerplaatsen, een bewaakte fietsenstalling, opslagruimte en een busstation. De evenementenhal Ahoy Rotterdam, het Ikazia ziekenhuis, politiebureau Zuidplein en het Theater Zuidplein bevinden zich op loopafstand. Momenteel bevindt zich tevens een tijdelijke fietsenstalling ter plaatse van de Pleinweg.

Winkelcentrum Zuidplein is gekoppeld aan een belangrijk knooppunt voor het regionale openbaar vervoer (metrostation en veertig regionale en stadsbuslijnen), zie: Zuidplein (metrostation)

Aan het winkelcentrum werd gebouwd van 1962 tot 1972 op een grotendeels braakliggend terrein tussen het metroviaduct en een aantal brede verkeerswegen. De Nieuwe kerk moest er echter voor worden gesloopt. In 1972 werd het winkelcentrum geopend door Mies Bouwman. In die tijd bestond een deel van het Zuidplein nog uit winkelkramen. Tussen 1993 en 1995 werd het winkelcentrum in oostelijke richting uitgebreid met circa 11.000m² door architectenbureau Bakker & Partners i.s.m. Chiel Verhoeff. Tussen 1999 en 2003 werd het interieur gerenoveerd zonder noemenswaardige uitbreiding door JHK Architecten uit Utrecht i.s.m. Greig + Stephenson Architects uit Londen. Het onoverzichtelijke centrale plein werd rustiger gemaakt door de vervanging van de wirwar aan oude kiosken door twee nieuwe kiosken. Een andere belangrijke ingreep was de installatie van een camerasysteem met 53 vaste camera's, elf camera's met zoom en volgmogelijkheden en infrarooddetectoren voor de avondbeveiliging. Verder werden computersystemen geïnstalleerd om al deze data zichtbaar te maken, te bewerken en op te slaan. Begin 2005 zijn er in het winkelcentrum proeven gehouden met een systeem voor automatische gezichtsherkenning. Met dit systeem kunnen veelplegers snel en automatisch herkend worden in de mensenmassa. Midden 2007 zijn ook 27 camera's geplaatst in de omgeving van Zuidplein, voor het merendeel bestuurbare camera's. Tegelijk zijn camera's geplaatst op en rond de Dordtselaan.

Met een oppervlakte van 55.000 vierkante meter is dit het belangrijkste winkelcentrum voor Rotterdam-Zuid en de gemeenten aan de zuidrand van Rotterdam. In 2004 had het winkelcentrum ongeveer 150 winkels. Het is één van de grootste overdekte winkelcentra van Nederland qua oppervlakte. Het winkelcentrum trekt ongeveer 10 miljoen bezoekers per jaar en is de afgelopen jaren steeds verder aan het renoveren.

Deze water stroom met daar tussen de brug in Halsteren vind ik een goed voorbeeld van hoe er een looprouten samen kan komen met een water stroom. Ook vind ik het leuk dat de ooghoogte gelijk is aan het water niveau.

----Almost an exact reduplication of a small Tokyo ‘warehouse’ featured in a book by Atelier Bow-wow, ‘Pet Architecture Guide Book’, with a triangular floor plan topped by a butterfly roof, centering the downspout on the front façade.  

----The new kiosk marks the main eastern entrance of Gleisdreieck Park on Möckernstraße and serves a multitude of park-related functions: information point, retail kiosk, concession stand for neighboring playground-side seating, toilets and baby changing room.

A geometric distortion of the archetypal saddle-roofed house, each side of the building offers a different profile, giving it a sculptural character that formally integrates itself within the contemporary park architecture. A uniform surface treatment of all wall and roof surfaces reinforces the monolithic design.

----Kiosk at Ravelijn / RO&AD Architecten   -The Ravelijn "Op den Zoom" is a fort-island of the city of Bergen op Zoom in The Netherlands which is made in the beginning of the 18th century by Menno van Coehoorn, a famous fort builder. This is the only "ravelijn" of him still present. The island sits just outside of the former center of the city.  At the end of the 19th century the fortress lost its defensive function. Nowadays the island-fort is mainly used for small public and private events.

----Young London architects Michael Tite and Tom Ebdon have won the competition for the design of a new series of seafront structures for the seaside resort of Bexhill-on-Sea in East Sussex, England.

Brabantbad, an ensemble of three residential towers designed by KCAP, brings new life to the site of the former Brabantbad in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The slender volumes with their round shape and transparent plinths enrich the green surroundings of this part of Prins Hendrikpark. KCAP designs the ensemble in commission of Hertog Bouw (a collaboration of AM, Dura Vermeer, Heijmans and Hendriks Bouw & Ontwikkeling).

The site of the former swimming pool Brabantbad is located in the Prins Hendrikpark, just outside the centre of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the capital of the Dutch province of North Brabant. The park embraces the IIzeren Vrouw, a former sand extraction lake, which adds exceptional quality to the park. The municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch has the ambition to make full use of the location of the former Brabantbad and improve the current zoning plan with the development of the tower ensemble.

The starting point of KCAP’s design is to enrich and enliven the park as much as possible. All this without affecting the park’s green experience and at the same time adding social safety to this part of the park. “KCAP designed three slender round-shaped towers that take up minimal space and, due to their staggered positioning, generate maximum views and allow the greenery to spread unhindered between the buildings. Due to their round shape, the towers have no backside and offer an all-round lively character,” says Edward Schuurmans, architect and partner of KCAP.

The towers are divided into three vertical sections that are in line with their surroundings: the plinths are designed to be slender and transparent to welcome the residents, guarantee views and interact directly with the surroundings through their programming. The middle section of the towers is at the same height of the trees. Lively balconies on the façade create contact between the dwellings and the park. The upper section is designed more abstractly and becomes part of the skyline of ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

The ensemble of three towers on the site of the former Brabantbad seeks a visual connection with the “3 Amazones”, three towers on the other side of the lake. But unlike these, KCAP’s towers reveal subtle mutual differences. Not least in the diversity of the floorplans and housing types. Here, the pie-shaped layouts provide exceptional living experiences and unique panoramic views of the surroundings of the park, the IIzeren Vrouw, and the skyline of ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The three towers offer together approximately 180 apartments.

KCAP’s design gives a new impulse to the park, literally through the towers’ minimal footprints. The compact, sustainable buildings incorporate advanced technical solutions such as a heat/cold unit with heat pumps that use the lake’s water to provide emission-free heating in the winter and cooling in the summer. The extra parking spaces required will be realised semi-underground and partly by offering a car-sharing concept.
