It’s the last weekend of Ren Faire!

The last weekend to dress up in my hand sewn Viking dress.

The last weekend to shop for curios both handmade or sold exclusively on Etsy.

The last weekend to feel zero shame for ordering a hard cider at 10:30 in the morning.

The last weekend to frolic over hills and dells while someone distant strums a lute.

And appreciate the lovely ladies that belly dance in the smoothest of ways.

Yes, I shall miss it

I have a love hate relationship with the Renaissance Festival. On one hand I love all the medieval stuff and I like showing off at the weaponry games (even though they’re hella rigged). On the other hand I have to listen to people that don’t know shit about weapons or fighting (usually larpers) who try to correct me on things. I also get hit on by guys twice my age.

And because every time I so much as mention larp I get a shit ton of hate from them here’s my credentials/FAQ:

-yes, I have tried larp. My friend has a very hardcore group that goes out for days at a time and I went with them for a whole weekend about 3 weeks ago. It was extremely easy for me and some of his friends even got pissed because I was “overpowered”.

-I’ve attended seminars on weaponry, mythology, and ancient combat at my local colleges, and done a lot of my own research because this is my passion.

-I’m a martial artist. Have been for a very long time. I am also trained to use a variety of different weapons. I’ve even taught some beginner classes.

-I’ve competed in junior HEMA events as well as a lot of different combat tournaments.

This isn’t saying larp isn’t fun, it is, but it’s not the same and all I’m saying is it bothers me when people (not everyone) who larp automatically discount my knowledge and experience or when they butt in on private conversations on a topic they know very little about.
