"Jaune Gets A Gun AU - Day 2" Detention's Aftermath...
Inspired by @howlingday's RU-JA-GUN-CON
Jaune and his companions dragged themselves into the two quarter's full cafeteria, and by muscle memory alone made their way to JNPR's & RWBY's customary table. Jaune, Ruby and Pyrrha slid into their traditional seats, while Emerald, Tiny Tina and Jinx stayed standing. Trying to figure out where they should also take a seat.
Yang: You guys look like sh...!
Nora: Rennie!
Ren: On it.
With a metal against glass clink, and a heavy thud, a special bottle lands on the table before Yang.
Yang: (Deadpans) Seriously?
Nora: Yep. Now pay up you hooligan.
Ruby: Jaune?
Jaune: Yes?
Ruby: Do we...?
Jaune: Nah, free pass for today... considering. (Looks up at those who are still standing) Just grab a seat, no need to keep standing. We'll make room.
Emerald nods and starts to take a seat near Ruby, the one member of RWBY she actually kind of likes being around, only to hear her name being called.
Emerald: Cinder?
Cinder: (Storming over.) Where have you been? We have things to go over!
Emerald: (Stammering) Sorry, I was at the gun show, and...
Cinder: Unacceptable! You will come with me at once!
Jaune: No.
Cinder: What? Excuse me?
Jaune: I said no. She's going to sit and have something to eat, first. She's had a long day, as we all have...
Cinder: like I care...
Jaune: IF you were an actual competent team-leader, you would understand... which apparently you're not.
Five out of the eleven seated/standing about the table felt their hearts thumping erratically, the other five just watched dumbstruck as Jaune dressed down a fellow leader.
Emerald: It's okay, I'll...
Jaune: Emerald, you're getting something to eat before anything else. Now you (looks at Cinder) are welcome to sit with us while she has some supper... or you can bugger off, and she'll meet up with you once she's had her fill. Your choice.
Cinder: (Glaring) You...
Jaune: (Never once flinching or breaking eye contact) Your choice...
With a huff and a snort, Cinder whirled about and stalked off.
Emerald: (Whispering) Thank you.
Blake: Well, that was... something. So who are?
Jaune: Oh, sorry! Introductions.
Weiss: You shouldn't have to be reminded to be polite, dolt. I thought you had more class than that, but I guess I was mistak...
Weiss stopped speaking, a creeping sense of doom crawling up her spine. A quick look about, she understood the source, or rather the five sources of that feeling.
Jaune: Anyway, This is Jinx and Tiny Tina, their frie...
Tiny Tina: J-Baby's my King, and this Queen is getting some sugar tonight!
Jinx: He's my husband, as he promised years ago, so you can all...
Yang, Blake, Ren and Nora all looked about, and after seeing Ruby and Pyrrha nod their heads, the quartet all reached forward and put some lien into the swear jar. Weiss for her part just looked baffled.
????: OW, that HURTS!
????: (Laughing cruelly) Told you these were real!
Jaune: (Recognizing that look in Jinx and Tin'as eyes) Guys, don't!
Tiny Tina: (giggling) Time to shank some bitches!
Jinx: (cackling) Whatever, let's just start shooting!
Jaune: PLEASE don't...
Screams and chaos erupted as Tiny Tina and Junix whirled around and opened up on the far side of the cafeteria. RWBY, JNPR and Emerald all watched as CRDL's entire table dove for cover. Juane slumped in his seat, totally defeated, as the remainder of his friends watched the spreading anarchy with morbid fascination.
Glynda: What is the MEANING OF THIS?
The action came to an instant stand still, or at least attempted to as Russel tried to make a break for it, only to hear a beep under his foot.
Tiny Tina: (cackling) Don't move.
Glynda: (Pointing at Jinx and Tint) Explanations! Now!
Jinx: Duh, they're bullies, so that's like an instant free pass, and besides... I'm crazy! Got a doctor's note.
Glynda reached up and pinched the bridge of her nose. She knew the headaches from today weren't over yet.
Glynda: Mr Arc!
Jaune: Yes, professor?
Glynda: Your associates have a detention for tomorrow, make sure...
An explosion followed by a shower a debris cut her off. Glynda instantly turned her glare towards Tiny Tina.
Tiny Tina: (chuckling nervously) He moved?
Glynda: As I was saying. Mr Arc, you will make SURE your two associates show up for detention starting tomorrow, and for the next three days. Do I make myself clear?
Jaune: Yes, professor.
Glynda: (eyeing Jinx and Tiny, who fidget nervously) Three days of detention, starting tomorrow... understood?
Tiny Tina/Jinx: Yes.
Glynda: This is the end of this foolishness tonight, correct?
Tiny Tina/Jinx: Yes.
Glynda: Good.
Glynda turns about, waving her riding crop to clear up the mess created by the impromptu skirmish, before scooping all four members of the no incapacitated team CRDL and floating them out the door.
Blake: (partially hiding behind her book) Um, question?
Pyrrha: yes, Blake.
Blake: Um... where are they going to sleep?
Ruby, Pyrrha, Emerald and Jaune's shoulders dropped and a look of utter despair crossed their faces.
Nora: They can have my bed! I'll share with Rennie!
Ren: Wait, I never...
Nora: BOOP! (Pokes the tip of Ren's nose) Settled. Problem solved.
Jinx: (Looks at Tina) I'm okay with that.
Tiny Tina: (Looks at Jinx) Are you a blanket hog? I hate blanket hogs.
(SO this is the final instalment of Day 2. I have some other projects that need attention on FF.net and A03, so there might be a little pause before Day 3 starts. Anyway, hope you enjoyed.)

@petitexmagician &&. said... "Ren!! I got- well actually I made you something!" The brunette side stepped to show a simple table with nothing on top. Placing her hat on it, she took it off the center to show a bowl of Unagi Chazuke. Zola didn't place her hat back on but held it with a grip. "Papa told me that dish was perfect for tea lovers when he lived in Inazuma a-and mum told me that Sumeru Rose petals would make a good tea if boiled long.. So I hope that's okay for the tea part of the dish-?"
made him something? the surprise etches itself clearly across the wanderer's expressive countenance without him needing to voice as much aloud. he arches a brow as she reveals the table — suspiciously empty, and it takes ren a moment to realize he's being made the subject of a magic trick. ( of course; he should expect nothing less. ) ❝ did you now. ❞ arms cross; he cants his head to one side — willing to PLAY ALONG with the show, just this once. though he's reticent as always to place a label on their relationship ( if only out of fear admitting anything is precious to him will soon see it swept away ) the wanderer's actions seem to do the talking for him — namely that his fondness for zola is entirely genuine. were it anyone else, it's unlikely ren would be nearly so cooperative; stubborn may very well be yet another name he wears for all that it suits him. here, he's more than willing to HUMOR HER. ❝ you have my attention. ❞ the statement is punctuated with a nod. ❝ let's see what it is. ❞
he isn't necessarily sure what to expect. something relating to their mutual goal, perhaps — new gears for the bell, those tools she had PROMISED to acquire for him. yet again, zola's wording contradicts both ideas; she specifically said that she made something for him — and while the wanderer has been ( pleasantly ) surprised to find just how far her USEFUL TALENTS might reach, he doubts either would be within her repertoire. instead, the hat is drawn away and ren is greeted by the sight of something entirely unexpected.
❝ ... ❞ yet again, his face betrays his thoughts — for it's clear by the wanderer's expression alone that he RECOGNIZES the dish. how could he not? he's made it more times than he cares to recall. when was the last time someone else thought to make it for him? it must have been centuries ago, surely — in a simpler time, where he was STILL LEARNING how to do so for himself. ( where he was little more of a child, if not in body then certainly mind. ) it's as he gazes upon the bowl sitting so innocently upon the table that he realizes he can feel the faintest stirrings of warmth sparking within his hollow chest. happiness — a sort untainted by tragedy or guilt. fragile as stained glass and twice as dazzling; ren has to bite the inside of his cheek to fight back A SMILE, though he has a sneaking suspicion he isn't entirely successful.
distantly, he becomes aware that zola has been talking while he's been lost in his own NOSTALGIA. ren exhales a soft breath through his nose and shakes his head. ❝ i've never tried it with sumeru rose before ... but i'll admit, you have me curious. ❞ he may have no physical need for food, but that doesn't mean he's above ENJOYING it.

Jaune Strife au: I don't think Cloud has been properly introduced to Jaune's friends yet. How do they react to the SOLDIER?
"Hey, Jaune?" Ruby walked next to Jaune, both leading their teams to his mom's bar. "What's your dad like?"
"My dad?" Jaune repeated. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, we've met your aunt, and all of your uncles, and your mom."
"Not all of my uncles, but I see what you mean." Jaune rubbed his chin. "My dad is usually away on missions, and even then, he's not really a people person like my mom."
"Even though he told you all you need is confidence?" Yang smirked as she slid up behind Jaune. "How'd your parents meet anyways?"
"Well, they grew up in the same town, then he left to become part of the SOLDIER program, and after he failed, he came back home on guard duty. Then the village was destroyed, and he helped Mom escape."
"Aw, that's so sweet!" Nora chirped.
"SOLDIER..." Weiss hummed. "Why does that sound so familiar?"
"Your dad failed and was put on guard duty?" Blake asked.
"Yup." Jaune nodded. "He got into the military, just not the special forces program, so he lucked out in escorting two SOLDIERs to his hometown. And then- Dad!"
Jaune hurried his way over to his father. The man almost half Jaune's size, but twice his build, turned around and welcomed his son with open arms. Firm slaps on the back were exchanged between the two as the father and son embraced.
"How've ya been, kiddo?" Jaune's father smiled.
"Great, Dad!" Jaune replied. "It feels like it's been forever!"
"Something like that." His father replied. "And who are your friends?"
"Dad, this is my team, and our sister team." Jaune gestured to his friends. "This is Ren, Nora, and Pyrrha of team JNPR." His team waved. "And this is Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang of team RWBY."
"Hello, sir!" Ruby waved.
"A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Arc." Weiss greeted.
"Uh, actually, it's Strife." His father corrected. "Cloud Strife. We just named Jaune and his sisters something different for their last names."
"Never explained why, either." Jaune added. "But let me guess, when I'm older, right?"
"Right." Jaune's dad nodded. "Name's Cloud, by the way."
"Nice to meet you, Cloud." Yang waved. "I'm-"
"Yang Xiao Long." Cloud nodded. "My wife's told me all about you."
"Oh, really?" Yang smirked.
"Mhm." Cloud looked behind him to the bar. "Says you tried to get her in trouble by ordering while underaged." Yang looked past him, and saw her photo on the bar billboard, labeled, 'Underaged - DO NOT SERVE' along with her sister and friends. "She's not too fond of you."
"Give me a break." Yang groaned, earning a giggle from her sister.
"To be fair, though," Cloud smirked, "Tifa's kind of hard to impress anyways."
"You impressed me." Tifa said, pulling Cloud's head back to kiss his forehead, earning a chuckle from him.
"After almost dying for the umpteenth time."
"Like you said," Tifa beamed, "I'm hard to impress."
Jaune smiled, then noticed how his friends were looking at his parents. They all had the same looks on their faces. From someone as young as Ruby to someone as stoic as Ren, he could recognize they all saw what he saw looking at his parents. This was a couple who went through hell and back, and knew only true love with each other.
"Hey, Dad?" Jaune asked.
"Yeah, Jaune?" Cloud replied.
"How about a sparring match between us?"
"Hm, your mom says your kickboxing skills are rusty," Cloud smirked as he stood up straight, "I hope the same isn't true about your swordplay."

Future kids - Todoroki Shoto I
Todoroki meets his children from the future. Part 2 is up now you can find it on my tumblr masters list. Or click [here]
Todoroki Shoto x F! Reader
Warnings: none
Todoroki was understandably confused. One moment he was eating his cold soba in peace and quiet, the next a little girl came barreling into him. Clinging onto his pant leg for dear life, tears streaming down her chubby cheeks. Todoroki tensed, even if he was coming out of his shell, dealing with a little child while not having complete control over his flames terrified him. What if he ended up hurting her, when he wanted to help? He refused to be like his father. hurting small children.
A small tug on his leg brought him out of his thoughts, and back to the reality that a young girl probably no older than 6 was clinging to him. He could feel his pants getting wetter by the minute, drenched in the redheaded little princess’ tears. Kneeling down to her height, he put a hand on her head and pattet it gently. It was the only form of comfort he could think of would be appropriate. “ Hey snowflake, where's your parents?” Todoroki asked the little girl, making her look up at the stranger whom she was clinging to. A small gasp escaped her lips, as she began to sob harder and cling to him even more if that was even possible. “ I-Im so so sorry daddy *sniff* I can’t find Ren” Todoroki stiffened. Daddy? He wasn’t a dad, not yet anyways. But that didn’t matter when he was comforting a young girl, so he would play along for the time being. Besides he felt drawn to the little snowflake, maybe it was the fact that she was comfortable enough to seek comfort from him. Maybe it was the fact that she looked like him, with beautiful heterochromia eyes, one classic Todoroki cerulean blue and one e/c.
“ Take a deep breath, little snowflake. Can you tell me what year it is?” His usual monotone tone, took on a softer note talking to the girl. He was kneeling at her height, rubbing small circles on her small back, while she clung to his shirt, sobbing in his chest. She looked up at him with her big mismatched doe eyes brimming with tears “ Its 20xx” okay weird that is 15 years in the future, Shoto wasn’t stupid this was probably the work of a quirk. He then proceeded to ask her if she was indeed hit by a quirk.
She told him that apparently her and her twin brother Ren, were playing with some of their friends at a park. But when they were playing tag one of their friends got their quirk, and the twins got separated. When Reina, as she told him her name was, woke up and couldn’t find her twin brother Ren she began to panic. Then she began looking for him, but then she recognized the dual colored hair and ran to him.
In between her telling the story and sniffling quitely, Shoto had picked her up. While she was calming down in his arms, he began making his way back to the campus grounds. Mr.Aizawa would hopefully know what to do, and maybe they would find Ren on the way. It broke his heart to hear her sniffle, his little snowflake crying was heart wrenching. Even if she technically wasn’t born yet, she was still his little snowflake and he would protect her no matter the cost. He was so possessive of his little girl already and he had only met her 1 hour ago, he promised himself then and there that he would be a better father than Endeavor ever was.
Her sniffles and sobs stopped, and her trembling figure relaxed in his hold. He could feel the little one's gaze on him, and he turned his head to her tilting his head a bit to ask what was wrong. “ Why do you look so young, daddy? '' She asked with the little innocent voice of an angel, he couldn’t help but let out a chuckle at her question. “ Well my little snowflake, right now I’m 16 and you haven’t exactly been born yet. I’m guessing your friend's quirk is something along the lines of time travel” he patiently explained to her, she nodded her head along as if she understood him. And if she inherited his intelligence, she just might have understood what he just told her completely.
The walk back to the dorms were filled with idle chatter, Shoto asking Reina about his future and how he was as a father. To which she exclaimed with a bright toothless smile ‘Daddys the best daddy in the whole world’ and he was so relieved that he wasn’t a horrible father like his own was to him. He ended up stopping for a minute so Shoto could pepper her with small soft kisses all over her cute slightly chubby cheeks. Her squeals of excitement warmed his heart, and a soft smile made its way on his face.
To onlookers they looked like a cute set of siblings, and small aw’s and so cute were heard in the background. But inside their little bubble, nothing could burst Shoto’s happiness at knowing he wouldn’t repeat his fathers mistakes. The long walk back to the dorms felt a lot shorter with his little snowflake talking his ear off. It was adorable really, she stumbled over a few words every once and awhile. She told him all about her and Ren’s adventures, how they accidentally froze their teacher when Ren got his quirk, and how he had to come and free the teacher.
Shoto was inexplicably happy that Ren got his quirk from his mothers side. But one thing caught his attention was the mention of their mother. He realized that Reina not once had mentioned her name, and as much as Shoto would hate to admit it he was beyond curious as to who he would ultimately spend his life with. A big part of him hoped that it was you, since he had finally found out what the fuzzy feeling he had around you was. Yep Todoroki Shoto was utterly and completely enamored by you, your personality was sweet and you would do anything for family and friends. Alongside Midoriya you were his best friend, and he was in love with you.
The closer to the dorms the two Todorokis came, the more his curiosity nagged him to ask his daughter who her mother was. When he could see the height alliance building a little longer down the road, his curiosity won. “ Snowflake, you never told me your mom's name. '' Reina brightened when he asked about his future wife, a big tell that his little girl adored her mother as much as she adored her father. '' Silly daddy, mom's name is Todoroki y/n of course, ``she said giggling. A bright smile adorned his handsome features as Todoroki stepped into the dorm's living room with Reina still in his arms with her head on his shoulder.
Class 1-A consecutively looked towards the door when it opened. They were trying to calm down the child that was crying on their sofa, who also happened to look suspiciously like their dual haired classmate. The young boy had dual colored hair and cerulean blue eyes, his hair was half white and half y/h/c. The child was obviously confused and scared, and had only stopped wailing when Kaminari short circuited. But alas he was still sobbing and the class was almost out of ideas. He had been asking about his parents, and calling for a person named Reina.
There in the door stood a smiling Todoroki, holy damn was the world ending. But what also caught their attention was the little redhead in his arms hugging him, the little girl's voice reached them and their jaws dropped. “ Daddy, is this the place you and mommy met?” It was such an innocent question, but 1-A was in a frenzy, so much so that they didn’t notice the little boy springing up from the couch and dashing toward Todoroki and the girl. They only came back to earth when a small happy “Daddy” was heard.
Todoroki was about to answer Reina’s question, when he heard the little cry “Daddy”. He turned his head towards the sound and so did Reina, she began bouncing in Shoto’s arms. “ Ren '' She shouted, making Shoto bend down and extend his arm that wasn’t holding Reina. Ren launched himself into Shoto’s chest, and Reina began hugging her twin brother as much as she could in their fathers embrace. “ Don’t worry my little snowflake, daddy’s got you” He whispered softly, calming Ren immediately. The rest of the class stood gobsmacked, daddy?
“Now my little snowflakes, let's go find Mr. Aizawa, so you can go home” Shoto’s arms were full, his little boy on one arm and his little girl on his other arm. How is he supposed to open the door? “ Midoriya, would you come with me to open the door?” Shoto’s tone was monotone as always, but slightly softer in the presence of his children. Midoriya simply nodded dumbfounded, nobody said a word. What were they supposed to say, with all the daddy claims, and seeing the children in the arms of their classmate confirmed it. They looked like the spitting image of the dreamy heterochromia boy, but with some tweaks. There were the y/h/c and the girls one e/c eye, that obviously must’ve come from their mothers side.
On the way to the teacher dormitories, the twins talked excitedly with each other, while Shoto explained the situation to Midoriya. Midoriya felt like he had seen the features on the twins that certainly didn’t come from Todoroki’s side, but with how much they looked like their father it was nearly mission impossible.
Coincidentally on her way to Mr. Aizawa as well, you spotted the tuft of green hair and tufts of red and white hair. Hm, must be on their way to Mr.Aizawa as well you thought. Jogging up to them, you poked Midoriya’s shoulder. Even if you were in class 1-B, you had a pretty good friendship with the cute green haired cinnamon roll. Your quirks were similar in a sense, since yours was a boost of strength as well. Not nearly as strong as Midoriya’s, but still. That is why you were training partners, and through him you had met his friend circle. It wasn’t an unusual sight to see Midoriya and Todoroki together.
But when they turned to you, you were left flabbergasted by the two cuties in Todoroki’s arms. Before the boys could react, Ren began squirming chanting ‘mommy’. Shoto sat him and Reina down, because she too began squirming once they caught sight of you. The two children that were previously in Todoroki’s arms, now tackled you in a hug. “Daddy look, we found mommy” they said in unison. Two children around 6 years old launching at you, could make even the best of them fall on their butts. Which was exactly what happened, they were squeezing you as tight as their small forms would allow.
Choosing to ignore the small ‘mommy and daddy’ comment, you carefully scooped them up in your arms. The look that Shoto gave you was enough to go along with this little charade, he looked at the three of you like you were his entire world. His eyes were shining with happiness, and his lips quirked up in a small smile. Lightly bouncing the ecstatic but sleepy children in your arms, you turned your attention to the two males before you. “ You wouldn’t happen to need Mr.Aizawa as well, would you?” You raised a knowing eyebrow. The two boys nodded, and you began walking again towards the teachers dormitory. You sent Todoroki a small pointed glare, silently commanding him to explain the situation.
The walk to the teachers lounge felt shorter than usual, since your attention was occupied. Todoroki explained his theory that a quirk sent the twins to the past, and that the two of you were their parents. As crazy as that sounded it made so much sense, and looking at the children you would lie if you said you didn’t see the resemblance. Midoriya explained how Ren was crying before Todoroki arrived, and how confused they were when they heard the little boy yelling ‘daddy’. Ren was probably the most scared, since he didn’t recognize anyone in his panicked state. Besides, most of the students probably look a lot different in the future, so it's kind of a miracle that the twins recognized you. Shoto will always be pretty easy to recognize, with his distinct hair, eyes and the showstopping scar. It complimented the handsome teen next to you so well, no wonder he was one of UAs top heartthrobs. Stopping for a second, you just realize something. If the twins in your arms are you and Todoroki's, then that means that you ended up scoring the half-n-half quirk user. Nothing could wipe the shiteating grin that made its way on your face, eliciting concerned and curious glances from the males beside you.
Mr.Aizawa had his fair share of strange situations. He had been teaching at UA for some time, and student’s quirks weren’t always a walk in the park. Never had he ended up in a situation quite like this though, he had to rub his eyes twice to make sure it was real. In front of him were 2 out of Class-1A’s trouble makers and one of his favorite students from Class-1B, they had two small children with them. Easily recognized as twins, and they looked like the half - n- half troublemakers children.
This was going to be a long night.

Here’s a random reylo ask for ya- did you ever have any theories/HCs early on in shipping reylo (cuz I believe you’ve said you were shipping since TFA) which you didn’t end up being into as much, or at all anymore as TST progressed?
Hello! Sorry it's taken me so long to get to this.
Story Time
So I saw TFA the second day it came out. I left rather bewildered- one, because a new actor I'd never seen before in my life (adam driver) gave such an unorthodox performance I couldn't stop thinking "The fuck does this guy think he's doing???" namely the interrogation scene where I don't think any other actor would have, nor could have, played it the way he did. I'm still shocked by the choices he made with his line delivery in that scene but in the best way possible. It's hard to explain. Anyway, that's one. Two also goes back to that scene. In middle school, back with Tokyo Pop was big, they held their very first manga contest for us regular american people to try our hand at Japanese style manga. Well, I felt like I could write, and my good friend at the time (she still is- we keep in touch!) could draw like a crazy person. So we decided to try for it. The only problem was, being middle schoolers, motivation and scheduling wasn't our forte. I did manage to write a short script excerpt of a story that had been brewing in my head for awhile at the time, and while I think I did eventually hand it over to her (I was suffering from perfectionism), the art never happened. We tried again in high school but then high school angst got in the way and it still didn't happen. Regardless, I still now had the only real concrete piece of writing for this story I had been sitting on for a couple years now.
Eventually....well, time moved on.
Cue "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", a sequel film I was INCREDIBLY skeptical about. I'd been watching star wars my entire life. My dad took me as a little kid to the big deal re-screenings of the original trilogy they did nationwide before the prequels came out. I had a lot of Opinions on this movie series. I had just moved to NYC and was out for a walk when I passed by Bloomingdales and saw, a bit to my shock, that their store windows were full of (allegedly) screen-used costumes and props from the upcoming TFA movie. I crept closer, had a look. Han Solo was the only thing I recognized. The rest? Unfamiliar. Alien. I had seen zero promotional images for this movie before encountering these windows and had only heard some things. I made guesses as to what everything was, before rounding the corner and being confronted with an irrationally tall costume. "Oh, is this the darth vader rip-off? lmao" (the only thing I had concretely heard about). "This guy had to be on stilts surely??" Kylo Ren. Funny at first, but the longer I stared at it, I shit you not, the more unsettled I got. I actually got *scared* staring at this costume. I took one very poor, very shaky picture, and basically ran away. (I regret not taking a better photo but oh well). I run into an article the next day at work about the movie and it happens to have the trailer and I decide, sure, ok, I'll give it a watch. Those windows were interesting at least. I basically had my tickets bought by the end of the day. So here we are, back to the theatre, sitting here as this audacious actor delivers the most ballsy performance I've seen the whole film as he interrogates the heroine, and I listen to what he's saying, and then, it hits me.
This. Is my story. These are my lines. I wrote this exact same exchange in middle school.
What the fuck??
This meant a lot of things to me. This meant that I knew where this story was going, and where it was going I liked very much. I went back to see the movie again a second time about a week or two later. I had to be sure-- I wasn't just imposing what was already inside my brain all these years onto a totally different story on the screen, was I? I watched, and waited. And sure enough....no, no it had to be it. These two? I know exactly how this is going to go down.
A few months later I visited back home and even managed to dig through a box and find my old script. I read through it, sort of shaking a little. My heroine- Light- had also been captured- by the Dark- and the song and dance were the same- Where am I? Does it matter? I can see everything. I'm not giving you anything. A summary, and as some years have passed again I have lost the print out in a box again, but some of the dialogue was ver batum.
I knew exactly where this new star wars story was going because I already wrote the damn thing in middle school, word for word, and if you thought for one second I wasn't going to tune in and defend this arc, that I never managed to get published myself at 13, with swords and shields and knives for my own personal middle school catharsis then you were dead wrong, my friend.
This may have seemed like a very round-about way of answering this question, but I wanted to give context, substance, because all of this ^^^^^ up here? It defines, explicitly, why I'm even here to begin with, and why I fought so hard from day one. There was nothing to abandon, or question, or shed. Because I already knew this story by heart. I had already written it!! And I still think ants and DLF and JJ Abrams and Terrio and the rest of those bastards can pry it from my cold dead hands, because truly they butchered my baby and while I may live with that, I'll never forget it.
Thank you for the ask, friend.

A December To Remember
Lawyer!Kylo Ren x Reader
4.1k, cw: Possessive behavior; name-calling; unwanted advances from another man; NSFW (Rivals/rival relationship/enemy lovers, PIV, fingering, semi-public sex/office sex)
Available on AO3
------------------------
When the elevator doors open, Kylo has to physically brace himself. He had heard the music blasting from seven floors away, his discomfort only growing bigger and bigger as the elevator ticked up up up to Gwen’s lobby. His hands clench into fists in his leather gloves, refusing to take them off.
He wasn’t going to be here long, he promises himself as a conga line of santa hats nearly steps on his Allen-Edmonds; he just needed to show his face, have a drink, and get out. The office is all geared up for Christmas, Kylo walks through the winter wonderland of flocked trees decorated in white and gold, garland wrapped around support poles, big faux presents arranged nicely. There’s a live band and although they played well, the music is a bit much, as are the people singing along. Kylo tunes it out to the best of his ability, on a mission, a hunt.
One thing he can at least appreciate, was that this was a cocktail party, which meant everyone was dressed up nicely. Kylo loves an excuse to bring out his expensive suits, Burberry sitting nicely on his broad shoulders. No one could say he didn’t try to be festive – he had put on a black tuxedo made of soft mohair wool, that happened to have a saucy lapel of black satin for some holiday flair.
As he walks through the crowds of attorneys who Kylo has never seen laugh and smile so much in his career, someone hands him a peppermintini. It’s not long before he feels a tap on his shoulder, and he nearly spills the cocktail by whirling around, thinking that at last, he’s found you.
He has half a mind to smile, but whatever he had thought of saying goes out the window when he sees it is not you, but rather it’s his friend Gwen. She’s gorgeous in a silver slinky number that dips down her muscled back very low, and Kylo leans in to press his cheek against hers in greeting.
“Well well well, look who actually decided to show up.” Gwen nearly has to shout to be heard over the volume of the party.
He rolls his eyes at her teasing, takes a sip of the offending holiday cocktail – where the fuck could a guy get some whiskey around here?
“I was invited, wasn’t I?” Kylo replies, even though he’s not really looking at her. Gwen is probably the only person he knows who is as tall as him, and tonight she’s wearing heels which make her actually a few inches taller.
“Yes, but I’ve seen the stack of unopened invitations sitting on your desk.” She snaps her fingers in front of his face, drawing his attention back to her for the time being as she raises a platinum blonde brow, “Let’s not you and I pretend that you’re here because you want to enjoy the cheer of the holiday.”
The both of them exchange a little huff of laughter, because really she was right. Kylo is here because he had heard through the grapevine that you had RSVP’d, and there was nothing that could have prevented Kylo coming to see you if that were true.
“I’ve been informed that it is appropriate to make appearances now and again, even brief ones.” He sighs into his drink, nose crinkling at the sheer minty-ness of it.
“You can’t leave you just got here!” Gwen groans, “Stay for a little while, there’s some people who want to talk to you.”
“Whether or not I stay is contingent to one thing.” He shakes his head with a grimace, and at this Gwen’s sharp eyes sparkle with the light of knowing his secret.
“I last saw her over by the buffet.” Gwen sips her own cocktail, speaking lowly enough so that only he can hear, not like anyone is listening.
“I don’t know who you mean.” Kylo’s palms immediately begin to sweat inside his gloves, and he fixes the wall a hard stare to avoid that knowing look in her eye.
“Between you and me, I’m surprised she showed up just as much as I am that you did.” Gwen scoffs, and that at the very least was something Kylo understood.
As difficult as it was trying to pin Kylo down for something as unsavory as a Christmas party, you were notoriously hard to convince to come to anything for the holidays if you didn’t feel like it. It was one of the things that Kylo appreciated about you – not that Kylo liked you, or anything.
He shakes the thought away from his head.
“But you’re sure she’s here?” Kylo asks, an intensity to his question that has Gwen laughing.
“Yes – and do try not to make a scene.” She pats him on the back, before sauntering away to go entertain.
“What’s a Christmas party without a little scandal?” Kylo mutters to himself, trying to figure out which way the food was.
He recognizes people from six or seven different law firms as he tries to cut his way through the party. Gwen hadn’t been joking, about a dozen men in suits shake his hand and introduce themselves, congratulating him on winning his most recent case. Interns have stars in their eyes when he passes, and Kylo tries his best not to be such a grinch to their faces.
At this rate, he’s starting to get frustrated and irritated, he still hasn’t found you. The peppermintini was long finished, and he didn’t ask for a refill when he passed the bar. The entire outing was shaping up to be a waste, and Kylo is about ready to give up when he finally catches a whiff of your perfume.
“…That’s nice.” He hears your disinterested voice pipe up from a spot on the other end of the lobby where he has wandered, and Kylo lets himself be led to you, using his height to search for you in the jovial crowd.
Some schmuck is trying to herd you in the direction of where a big sprig of mistletoe has been tied under a doorframe, and the minute Kylo sees it happening, jealousy and rage simmer up straight up his spine.
“Isn’t it? I got the sonofabitch off a ten-year sentence. He was absolutely guilty but, that’s not my problem anymore.” A handsome pretty boy with perfectly straight teeth that are practically fluorescent from how white they are tries dazzling you.
“Uh huh.” You sound like you could not care less, and that for some reason only makes Kylo angrier – couldn’t this boy see that you weren’t interested?
Kylo tries to say his excuse me and his pardon mes, as he winds through the lobby on his mission to you. It’s difficult, because you won’t stay still for fucks sake, so every time Kylo thinks he’s just about gotten to you, you take a sharp turn to try and lose the boy’s unwanted attention.
“So anyway I was thinking to celebrate, maybe you can come back to mine after this shindig gets wrapped up.” He says, slipping an arm around your waist.
Kylo’s blood boils.
“Excuse me?” Your tone shifts dramatically, from uninterested to offended at his presumptions. Your body stiffens up at once, and that arm drops from your waist like he’s been electrocuted.
“I brought my own car and everything, we don’t even have to take the subway.” The boy tries to impress you, but you’re having none of it.
“I don’t think so, I have no intentions on going anywhere with you.” You shut his advances down, “Tonight, or any night.”
This angers the boy, which in turn makes Kylo see red, and he doesn’t even realize that he’s literally shoving himself in between happy couples and groups of cheerful friends to close that last bit of distance between you and him.
“Well then what the hell have you been doing this entire time, leading me on like this?” The boy reaches out to grasp harshly around your wrist when you try and make your leave, “Hey – !”
“She said no.” Kylo’s voice is dark and dangerous as he appears behind the boy, who drops your wrist at once.
“Kylo?” The sound of his name on your lips is enough to keep him from killing this boy in a blind rage, and his eyes flick to you in a very curt greeting.
“Listen to me -- and listen to me carefully.” Kylo looms over this lesser attorney, casting a shadow over the boy’s face from the sheer breadth of him, “I am going to close my eyes and count to three. If you are still here bothering this woman when I open them again, I will reach down your throat and rip your lungs out through your mouth and I will make it look like an accident. Understand?”
“Y-yes.” The boy stammers out, nearly chokes.
“Yes what?” Kylo sneers, jaw clenched.
“Yes sir!” He squeaks in terror -- Kylo doesn’t even have to close his eyes before the boy is scrambling away, and everyone around you is snickering at how he’s gone bright red in the face as he leaves the party entirely.
Now that that was taken care of, Kylo holds a hand out for you, which you take automatically. He would never admit to it, but the feeling of your palm against his has him calm almost at once.
“You have to stop doing that, you know.” You say, as Kylo leads you away from the crowded party of the lobby, and out towards the big balcony.
It’s cold outside, the past few days bringing a light dusting of snow, but you don’t seem to mind. You’ve got a fur stole wrapped around your shoulders to keep you warm. Even out here has been decorated to match the Christmas spirit, with twinkling lights covering every available surface.
“Oh but it’s so fun to watch them squirm.” He smiles, pulling you close to him as the two of you rest against the railing.
“No, not that,” You shake your head, “I mean rescuing me. I can handle myself.”
“I know you can, but again, where would be the fun in that?” Kylo only winks, and you lightly smack his arm.
You’re about to say something, when you notice that dangling above both of your heads is a bit of mistletoe, tied together with a red velvet ribbon. It spins ever so gently in the slight breeze from being so high up, and you nudge Kylo’s hand on the railing with your own.
“Look.” You whisper, and Kylo looks up too.
“Now who put that there…?” He grins smooth as ever, as he ducks his head down and kisses you.
Kissing you was rapidly becoming one of Kylo’s favorite pastimes. It was too bad you were such a fucking pain in his side most of the time, if you weren’t so stubborn and difficult, he’s sure you’d spend a lot more time kissing each other.
But then again, you are stubborn and difficult, and you have no intention of stopping. Kylo hates that about you, hates how upset it makes him. No one gets under his skin the way you do, and so he pays you back by giving you the best kiss of your life – that’ll show you.
Your mouth parts for his, eyes closed. Your breaths come out in little sighs, and Kylo feels his body reacting to it. He hasn’t been able to get a good look at you all evening, but when he does, he loves what he sees. You’re wearing a dress in a color that perfectly compliments your skin, in a shape that fits your body exactly how you like it to.
His hands grasp at your hips a little too tightly, making you nip at his lower lip with a teasing smirk.
Christmas has never been something Kylo cared remotely about, but he’s big enough to admit that the lights really do wonders for making you look like a goddamned movie star. You both pull away enough just in case someone were to look out the window or come onto the balcony and see – neither of you could really have that, it was bad enough that there were bets about you through the different firms, the last thing you needed was to let any one side win.
“It’s criminal, how good you look.” Kylo tugs on the fabric of your neckline, “Someone ought to do something about it.”
“Hmm, like what?” You play along, your hand reaching down down down and grasping a hold of Kylo’s cock, ever so briefly, giving in a squeeze.
“Bend you over and fuck you hard, just the way you deserve.” He presses his mouth against your ear, he can practically hear your heartbeat picking up.
“Too bad you scared off poor Mike,” You say with a tsk of your tongue against the roof of your mouth, “I bet he would’ve loved to do the honors.”
Mike, that was the schmucks name? Kylo had almost forgotten entirely about him, about the way he had put his hands on you without your permission. He would make a couple calls, get the kid fired.
Or demoted, at the very least.
He wasn’t sure yet.
“You want to get me mad, is that it? And here we were having such a nice time.” Kylo looks around again, makes sure no one is seeing anything that’s happening out there on the balcony as he snakes a hand up up up your thigh.
“Maybe I like it when you’re mad, maybe I know you’re going to show me a real good time.” You smirk, and Kylo is reminded why he hates you so much, you’re so spoiled, getting whatever you want whenever you want it.
“Such a fucking brat.” He snaps, hand reaching for your and tugging you back through the doors with a, “Come with me.”
Kylo is faced with the party once again and is trying to find the best way to get the fuck out of there, when you pull him in a different direction.
“No – I know a spot, this way.” You bite back a pleased grin, and Kylo has to roll his eyes, letting you lead the way.
Deep deep deep in the bowels of the office, far away from the lobby and all the festivities, the music sounds a million miles away. You’ve tugged Kylo into a conference room with big glass walls and a glass door, like a little zoo enclosure. It’s nearly pitch black, none of the lights are turned on. The only illumination is from the city outside, the ambient glow of New York beginning their celebration of Christmas. The Rockefeller tree shines brightly a few blocks down the road, a perfect view from this conference room.
Fleetingly, Kylo has half a mind to ask you to go ice skating, but then you’re hopping up on the table and spreading your legs, the skirt of your dress hiked up around your hips. You’re not wearing any panties, a pair of thigh garters holding up your stockings – and Kylo’s mind goes blank.
“Aren’t you cold?” He asks, immediately pushing you farther up the table, wanting a better view of your pussy as your thighs rub together from being so exposed.
“Yes,” You admit licking your lips, “But you’ll warm me up, won’t you?”
Kylo groans, bites off his gloves with his teeth, wastes no time in trailing his fingertips through your folds. You squirm at the touch, wanting to be filled by him, any way you could get it. He dips them deeper between your legs, nothing but the sound of your breathing filling the quiet of the room.
“Slut, god what a fucking slut you are – look at you, pussy already wet for me.” Kylo grits out between his teeth, his cock filling out in his expensive trousers, straining against his briefs.
His fingers seek the wet heat of your cunt, and he pumps them in and out slowly while he tries undoing the buckle of his belt. Your hands help him, your legs falling open farther as his fingers bury themselves in your pussy. The stretch is beautiful, and you moan, leaning back until you’re resting on the table fully.
“Are you going to talk? Or are you going to fuck me?” You challenge from your spot on the table, your hands rubbing up and down your stomach, hips lifting so he can finger you a little faster.
“Both, I can do both, fuck you’re sexy.” He huffs, unbuttons his suit jacket, shucks down his trousers and briefs enough to pull his cock out and give it a good few strokes with the hand that’s not thrusting in and out of your cunt, blunt nails dragging against your walls.
“I know.” You’re full of yourself – full of Kylo – and you moan from the thought, “Hurry up, someone could catch us.”
“No they can’t, I locked the door. It’s just you and me sweetheart – thaaaat’s it.” Kylo replaces his fingers with his cock, your folds swallowing him down, oozing and dripping slick all over your thighs.
He shoves in roughly once he’s got the head in, pushes into you in one fluid motion that has your back arching. Kylo grabs at your legs, is careful of your heels as he pins your ankles together and tucks them against his shoulder, your body pressed together as he begins to thrust in earnest.
“Yes! Fucking finally,” Your palms smear sweat on the polished wood of the conference table, and before he knows it, you’re pulling one hand up to lightly smack at his arm. “You know I’ve been waiting here for you for two fucking hours, you asshole.”
Only you could give him such an icy glare while also pushing your tits up for him to play with. Kylo reaches out to pinch hard at one of your nipples, and you whine, your thighs trembling just a little from being held up like this.
Kylo’s big fat cock stuffs you full, your pussy even tighter from having your legs pressed together like this. Normally he likes to look down and watch his dick disappear into you, but he can barely see your face as it is in the dark of the room, so he doesn’t mind. Besides, he can feel you – can feel the way you throb and pulse around him, how you flutter and clench, and it’s enough.
“If I had known – damn you’re tight – you’d be here – fuck (Y/N) – I would’ve come earlier.” Kylo latches himself to your neck, bending you nearly in half as his hips speed up, his balls smacking against your ass as he pushes you up up up the table.
“I – ah Kylo be careful,” You warn him when one of your shoes falls right off your foot and lands on the wood with a thud. He rips the other one off and throws it to the floor, leaving your legs in nothing but the stockings and garters. Your hand tangles in his hair as you press him back down to your throat, where he sucks and bites at your skin. “I don’t know why you couldn’t just fucking call me back. We – oh yes, yes harder come on – we could’ve avoided all this bullshit.”
“You’re the one who hung up on me last time!” Kylo pulls himself more upright, scowling down at you as he grabs your face, gives your jaw a little shake.
“Oh!!” Your body tenses up unexpectedly, his cock accidentally slipping out and pushing back in wrong.
Kylo fumbles just a little bit in the dark, lets your legs fall as he tries to fix the angle, tries to get himself back inside your pussy as quickly as he can. It just feels wrong to not fuck you, it feels wrong to not be joined with you as completely as possible. Even when you’re scowling at him and he’s glowering right back at you – maybe especially then.
“Relax for me?” Kylo strokes your hip with his thumb, and your body gives way for him once again, your legs wrapping around his waist as he pushes back in and continues fucking you exactly like you like it, “There we go, anyway you wouldn’t have answered me.”
“Could’ve – faster Kylo, you could’ve left a voicemail.” You hiccup, and he hates that you’re right.
He hates it as your body opens up for him, takes him, takes the fucking. You’re such a fucking princess you make him do all the work with a big smug grin on your face before he shifts his hips just right in a way that’s got your eyes rolled back into your head, mouth dropped open. He grabs your jaw again and makes out with you, wants his tongue on yours, wants your teeth scraping against his.
“Sure – fuck you, ugh fuck, I’m – ” Kylo can barely get the words out, kissing you and fucking you in the dark and quiet like this, while everyone enjoys the party just beyond the locked door of the open floor plan of cubicles.
“Me too,” You nod, desperate for him, wanting to come so badly that you twine your fingers into his hair and tug sharply, voice breathy and high and panting as you demand, “Kylo more – !”
He gives it to you, plows his cock into you so hard that he pushes the table askew, makes the chairs on their rolling wheels move all over the place from the effort of it. He bites down hard onto your neck and rubs your clit, rolls it between his fingers while his cock forces itself as deep as it can go, shallow thrusts to fill you up all the way, pushing right up against your cervix, making you yelp out your orgasm.
Feeling your cunt throb and gush for him, Kylo comes soon after, pumping himself in and out mindlessly, the both of you reveling in your pleasure. With a weak shaking hand, you tug down the sleeves of the bodice of your dress, let it fall away from your breasts. Like a moth to flame, Kylo is drawn to your cleavage, and he wastes no time pulling one of your tits out of the pretty lacy bra you’ve got on.
He sucks and kisses at your flesh as his cock pulses and spills more come into you, the both of you trying to catch your breath. He spares a glance up to you, pleased to see you’re fucked out nicely, eyes closed, lips parted and drooling just a little onto your cheek as you’ve got your face turned to one side. Kylo lets his eyes close too, mouths at your nipple until he’s sure he’s emptied himself inside of your wanting cunt.
Then, when he pulls you to sit upright on the table, instead of helping you with your clothes or even cleaning up the mess between your thighs, he stays buried inside of you and fishes his phone out from the inside of his jacket pocket.
“What are you doing?” You ask with a nosy frown, trying to lean around his big hand and see what he’s pulling up on his phone.
Kylo just kisses you quiet, dials the phone and puts it up to his ear while it rings.
“Calling the car to come pick us up and take us back to my place,” He murmurs against the corner of your mouth, before cracking the joints in his neck and grumbling, “Unless you’d rather mingle with a hundred boring nobodies like Mike instead.”
You just scrub a hand down your face with a smile, try to start fixing your hair back to something less mussed.
“I’m starving, can we pick up takeout on the way?” You stretch, wincing when Kylo finally does pull out of you, the feeling of being empty making you grimace just a bit.
He chuckles and kisses you again, lets your arms slip around his neck without any protest.
“Whatever you want.” Kylo kisses your cheek, diverting his attention to the phone call once his driver picks up.
Though the holidays had you at one another’s throats like rabid vicious dogs most days, Kylo wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. Because for all the bitching and bickering, there were moments like these. Moments in the dark where you both let yourselves have what it was that you wanted.
And who knew, maybe the new year would bring about a whole new set of opportunities and possibilities, you’d just have to wait and see. One thing was for sure though, Kylo thinks as he helps you off the table and you both search for some tissues or something to wipe up the mess you’ve made, it certainly was a December to remember.

So I've seen this future kids prompt pop up everywhere and I love it. Maybe Shouto, Shinsou, Iida and Dabi with their future kids ????
Ooooh I’ve read them as well! They’re so wholesome. I’m happy to oblige dear anon. Love ya. 💖💖💖
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Todoroki Shouto
-He was on patrol with his father when someone bumped into him.
-When he looked down he saw a little girl with snow white hair, laying on the pavement.
-The little girl was crying, her hiccups echoing in his ears.
-His father had stopped a few paces in front of them, watching the scene unfold.
-Shouto knelt down, gently grabbing the girl by her elbows, steadying her as he looked at her.
-She looked...oddly familiar.
- “Are you okay?” he asked.
-At the sound of his voice the little girl snapped her head up, her dual-colored eyes meeting his own and she shot herself onto him, wrapping her little arms around his neck while continuing to whimper.
-Shouto was taken aback by the action, but what had him almost shaking was her eye colors.
-One grey and one e/c.
- “W-we n-need to f-f-find h-her!” she said between sobs. “S-she wasn’t w-w-with m-me when I-I-I woke up!!”
-Shouto wrapped his own arms around her small frame, trying to calm her down.
-Once she stopped sobbing, he untangled her from him.
- “Where are your parents, snowflake?” he couldn’t recognize his own voice due to the softness.
- “W-what do you mean, daddy??” long awkward pause. “And w-why are do you look so y-young?”
-This boy malfunctioned at the word ‘daddy’.
-What does she mean daddy? He’s a virgin for crying out loud!
-And above that he couldn’t bring himself to talk to his crush, aka you, without messing something up!
-How could he have a kid!?
-The little girl was looking at him with wide eyes, his eyes, like she was waiting for him to remember her.
- “What in the world are you talking about, girl?”
-Oh he had forgotten about his father being here.
-Without a word, Shouto scooped her up in his arms and told his father that he was going to take her somewhere safe.
-He was going to take her to you.
-An awkward silence enveloped them as the girl clutched his hero costume in her little fists.
- “So what’s your name?”
- “Ren...”
- “That’s a nice name.... And how old are you Ren?”
-”I’m four.”
-And so Shouto asked her question after question.
-Apparently, a kid at her school got his quirk and it went haywire, sending both her and her twin sister Rei here.
-Ren explained to him that she woke up without her twin which send her into a panic because they had never been apart before.
-Shouto asked who her parents were and if she had any siblings.
-He already had an idea about who her parents were, but he needed to be sure.
-Ren told him that you were her mother and that they had recently welcomed another mini Todoroki to the family, a little girl named Ru.
-Shouto was ecstatic but of course he didn’t show it.
-Once at the school, he went on a mad hunt searching for you.
-He may not have an explanation and he may not have told you about his feeling but you need to see her.
-See the future.
-He was getting desperate until he heard your laughter coming from somewhere behind him.
-Just as he turned his head, he was tackled to the floor by a ball of vibrant red hair.
-The girl in his arms started to giggle and both of the little humans on top of him were bouncing up and down from excitement.
- “Todoroki there you are!! I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”
-You crouched down next to him, pulling the two little girls off of him and placing the on the floor beside you.
-You gave him an apologetic smile before turning back to the girls.
- “I’m assuming that you are Ren?”
-The little girls both nodded in response, too busy hugging each other to really care.
-The rest of the day was spent with the four of you watching Disney movies and having some quality family time.
-When they disappeared at midnight, you both were exhausted beyond belief.
- “Why did we name the red head Rei?”
-You laughed at his question, admitting that you had the same question when you first saw the little girl.
-Rei thankfully had explained that once they got their quirks, their hair colors changed/switched, so now the white haired one was Ren while she was Rei.
- “So I’m guessing that this is a good time to ask you on a date.”
Shinsou Hitoshi
-When Shinsou saw the five year old girl sitting on his bed when he returned to his dorm after training, he knew something was up.
-The little girl had her head bowed as she sat on his bed, her lilac locks framing her little face but he could see the tears rolling down her cheeks.
-She wouldn’t look at him and he could tell she was terrified by the slight tremble of her shoulders.
-Moving to stand in front of her, Hitoshi knelt down and moved some stray locks from her eyes, revealing the purple orbs.
-Okay now he definitely knew that something wonky was going on here.
-She was a perfect mix of you and him and it made his heart flatter.
-He was positive that you were the love of his life and having it confirmed had him WILDIN.
-He couldn’t wrap his mind around the fact that he married you and you had a kid!
-Best day of his life so far!
-A sniffle coming from the little girl in front of him snapped him out of his daze.
-Stretching his arms out towards her, he motioned for her to come closer and she leaped at him.
-Her small fists balled up his shirt as she buried her little head in his chest, her cries becoming full on sobs at this point.
-Without a second thought he scooped her up and walked back and forth in his room, holding her close to his chest and stroking her hair.
- “I-I don’t know what h-h-happened d-daddy! I was just p-petting the k-k-kitty when this m-m-man came up to m-me!”
-He shushed her, telling her that everything was going to be alright and that no one would hurt her as long as he’s here.
-After calming her down (which was pretty quickly), he took her to the kitchen for a quick snack.
-He watched as the little chipmunk, his little chipmunk, chomped down on the sandwich he had made her, a comfortable silence enveloping them.
- “What’s your name kitty?”
-On their way to the kitchen he had explained to her what he believed happened and how important it was that she didn’t call you mom.
- “Kei. Kei Shinsou.” she beamed at him.
-Kei and him talked about the future, Hitoshi wanting to know everything he could about her family life.
-As it turns out Kei was five and a half ,and not five as she clarified quite angrily when he called her a five your old and she was expecting a baby brother soon.
-Hitoshi was shookth!!
-TWO KIDS? WITH YOU?
-Was he dead?
-At that moment you walked into the kitchen, you earbuds in your ears while the YouTube video you were watching was being blasted through them.
-You hadn’t noticed them until you bumped into Kei’s chair.
-Your reaction to the whole scene was a “I’m too high for this” as you proceeded to pour yourself a glass of water and walk back out the kitchen.
- “Oooh mommy was doing magic grass!!! That’s bad...”
-Shinsou made a note to stop smoking weed from now on.
-They both returned to his dorm room and magically fell asleep.
-Having her small frame snuggle up to him, did wonders to his insomnia and he was out like a light.
-The next morning he was faced with an empty bed and a very confused you.
-He had to explain everything now...
-Oh boy.
Iida Tenya
-Iida had the biggest crush on you that was visible to everyone BUT you.
-You were absolutely oblivious but he like the pinning so he didn’t really mind.
-What he did mind however was the little girl clinging to him at the moment going on and on about how someone used their quirk on her and she woke up in the alley.
-Tenya was losing his shit over the whole ordeal and most importantly over the fact that the little girl was a carbon cope of you, with his hair and eye color.
- “Where are your parents?”
- “How did you get into UA?”
- “Why are you calling me daddy?”
-The moment she saw him starting to panic and go into an air chopping frenzy, she climbed on a nearby ledge and grabbed his cheeks, squishing them in between her own small chubby hands.
- “Stop hitting the air! You’ll hurt it!”
-That... wasn’t what he expected but okay.
-After a small interrogation, he found out that her name was Asami and that you were her mother.
-Plus she might have mentioned a baby brother but because of her rapid talking Tenya didn’t get a chance to ask her about him.
-After she stopped rambling, he decided to take her to Recovery Girl.
-The only reasonable thinker of the four boys tbh.
-On their way to her office they ran into you.
-And when I say ran I mean Asami ramming into you with a loud squeal.
- “Mommy mommy we found you!!!”
-Tenya was positive that you passed out.
-You mumbled something before standing up, taking the little girl into your arms.
-Tenya made to explain but you caught him off.
- “After she’s been ... dealt with?”
-For the rest of the way you and Asami conversed about every little thing while Tenya was burning this image in his brain.
-You looked so happy holding her and the little girl in your arms had the largest smile on her face that was identical to yours.
-He always wanted a family and he had pictured starting one with you.
-That is if he ever found the courage to ask you out.
-Once at Recovery Girl you let little Asami skip into her office for her check up and you two fell into an awkward silence.
- “So...... we made.... her..”
-You chuckled at his words, not believing them yourself.
- “Yeah, she’s really pretty.”
- “I’d say she gets that from her mother.”
-You both agreed to go on a date after Asami left.
-When she finally did you felt kinda hollow.
-Guess you’ll have to get to work to bring her back then wink wonk.
Dabi
-He had no idea why this kid was following him but it was starting to get on his nerves.
-It was like he was a mother goose.
-He took a sharp turn into an alleyway and waited for the kid to turn as well.
-Once he saw the mess of unruly red hair with some scattered h/c strands, he kinda froze.
-Snapping out of his initial shock he tapped the kids shoulder.
-Turquoise eyes looked back at him and he lost it.
- Enter internal screaming affect here.
- “Why are you following me kid?”
-The little boy froze at his words and bowed his head, not meeting Dabi’s gaze.
- “I-I woke up here a-and saw you s-so I followed you.” sniffle “I-I assumed y-you would lead m-me to m-m-mom....”
-Dabi continued to analyse the kid trying to find more similarities between himself and this kid and he came to the conclusion....
-That he had come face to face with a mini version of himself.
-He heard more sniffles coming from the boy, who was trying to hold back his tears and pull of a brave face.
-He was failing but kudos to him for trying.
-Kneeling down with a sigh Dabi looked at him dead in the eyes, his eyes.
- “What’s you name kid?”
- “Kyro a-and don’t call me kid.”
- “Why so...kid?”
- “Because I am not a kid!!”
-As Kyro balled his fists, Dabi noticed a small blue flame emitting from one of his fists and he lost it...again.
-But this cocky bastard is stubborn.
- “Since you’re not a kid you can find your own way home then.”
-He stood up and went to leave when he felt a tug at his coat.
- “No dad don’t leave, I-I don’t know w-what to do.”
-Dabi.exe has stopped working.
-There was a long ass pause before Dabi grabbed Kyro’s small hand and led him out the alley.
- “I’m taking you to someone who might help then...then you are going to tell me who your mom is so I can drop you off.”
-And you can guess who he asked for help.
-Shirakumo Kurogiri the dad villain.
-Once at the hideout, Kyro explained everything to Kurogiri and that he didn’t know how to get back.
-To be honest both father and son were slightly panicking with the whole situation but their damn pride wouldn’t let them express their concerns.
-And then you walked into the bar.
-Two really loud voices called out to you, one frantic Y/n and one panicked Mommy.
-You had your hands full after that.
-As much as Dabi likes to pretend that he doesn’t give a shit about anything, he really loved you and the fact that in the future you two had a son together got him going all dad mode on both you and Kyro.
-For the remainder of the day you were stuck babysitting an adult Dabi and a four year old version of Dabi.
-Both father and son knew that you had reached your limit when you called Dabi Touya so they backed off a little bit.
-Everything came to a halt the moment your heads touched the pillows.
-Kyro and you were out like a light while Dabi managed to stay awake for about five minutes drinking in the image of you holding the little boy tightly close to your chest and interlacing your fingers with his.
-He could get used to this.
-Kyro didn't seem to hate him so he must be doing a good job.
-As sleep was clouding his mind he wandered when you two actually have him.
-Is it in five years?
-In two?
-Now?
-Guess he’ll have to wait and see.
I give you the final chapter of Summoning Family. It’s been a fun story, and while I have more ideas for it, there are other things I want to write. I mean, i got 114,984 words out of this thing! (so says ao3) I hope you enjoy, and read to the very end for something extra.
@petrichormeraki @helleborusangel
Grian smacked his alarm as it started to ring, making it shut up. He had been up late the night before getting everything ready. About a minute later, the alarm went off again and Grian groaned before shutting it off. The third time he sat up angrily and stared the clock down as he turned the alarm off. Why had past him set such an early alarm? They had done everything yesterday. Except get the cake. And decorate. And- okay they still had a lot to do.
Grian dragged himself out of bed and poured a bucket of water over his head to wake himself up. He then regretted that as he needed to dry his wings afterwards, but then he flew over to Mumbo’s base and barged into his bedroom.
“WAKE UP SLEEPYHEAD!” Grian shouted at the top of his lungs to wake Mumbo up, but was surprised when nothing happened. “Mumbo!” Grian then stomped over to the bed, only to find it empty. Confused, the avian started looking through the base, eventually finding the redstoner feeding it. “What are you already doing awake?”
Mumbo jumped a little before looking over. “I could ask you the same thing. At least for me I rigged up some redstone to make sure I got up at the right time. I’ve already gathered up some supplies and in making sure I’ve got everything ready, I actually remembered to feed this place.”
“Good for you. Do you need me to get anything else? I was going to pick up the cake. Do you think Tommy remembered the message on top when ordering it. Oh no, what if he didn’t and it doesn’t-”
“Calm down Grian. I’m barely keeping myself together as it is. If it doesn’t work out, I’m sure store bought will be fine as an emergency.”
“But this is his first birthday! And it wouldn’t be fair if he got a standard one while Jrum would get a fancy cake!”
“Grian, they can’t even eat cake.”
“You’re right! Why did I even bother wanting to get them a cake?!”
“For the guests who can eat cake.” Mumbo quickly answered before continuing. “Although there is the possibility of a mineral cake. If I get some lava I could theoretically- hang on.” And he put down a shulker box and started going through it. “Of course a diamond on top since it will probably just be a cupcake or something, though we don’t want to leave Jrum out. And I think I’ve still got a chisel in my ender chest.”
“Well, It looks like you’ve got something to do.” Grian responded, feeling much calmer now that it looked like they had a good plan in place. “So even if this cake doesn’t work out, we’ll still have something good. But I’m still going to see if I can pick up the one we ordered so I’m going to run and grab that.” Mumbo half nodded, giving a slight wave, too busy planning on a mineral cake for Grum.
Grian chuckled before making a portal and heading to the SMP. When he got to the other side, he pulled out a piece of paper. “Okay. Coordinates, coordinates… Ah, okay so the bakery is that way.” He turned in the direction of the coordinates and for a moment considered flying, but he remembered how close everything was and if he flew, he would probably pass it quickly.
It didn’t take long to actually reach the building, though Grian still double checked, even with the various signs of it being a bakery. Finally, he walked inside and went up to the counter, a bell ringing overhead as he opened the door. “I’ll be with you in a minute.” A voice from further in the building called and Grian just waited.
After about a minute and a half, a woman walked out and greeted Grian. “Hello there. Hoping to buy something or order?”
“Neither actually, I’m picking up an order. It should be under the name Tommy Innit but I’m the one picking it up.”
“Ah, yes! Tommy’s cake! I made sure to take special care of it!” The woman smiled and Grian narrowed his eyes slightly as it was a smile he was very familiar with, having used it plenty himself.
“Right, well did he remember to ask for a message to be written on top?” Grian asked, the woman shaking her head. “Right, I was worried about that. I hope it won’t be too much of a hassle to add that. I can pay extra if need be.”
“Hmm, yeah I can do that. What’s the message?”
“Well it’s… Here let me write it down just to be sure, I don’t want it wrong on such a special day.” The avian said before pulling a pen out and writing on his paper.
“Special… day?” The woman asked and Grian could hear the nervousness in her voice.
“Oh yes.” Grian couldn’t help but give a slight sly smile of his own. It looked like he’d have to get a store bought cake after all, but he wanted to see how this would go as he put the paper down. “It’s my kid’s first birthday. He’s… sort of adopted so while he’s not an infant, it’s still the first birthday he’s gotten to have so I’m making sure it’s perfect. So a simple
Happy Birthday Grum’ will do.”
The woman stared at the piece of paper like it had just shown up and killed her family as she watched. “Right… birthday party for a child. Hmm. I think I got the design a bit wrong. Let me get you a second one. I can always comp the other person for the delay.” And she went into the back again, leaving Grian smiling. This was probably another person who had it out for Tommy, so messing with her was proving to be fun.
Listening carefully, he could pick up the woman panickedly whispering to someone else. “Jack we fucked up, Tommy’s not eating the cake, he ordered it for someone else!”
“What? Who? Ranboo or Tubbo?”
“No! I don’t even know the person out there but apparently the cake is for the birthday of a previously orphaned child!”
“Oh shit!”
“Yeah! So now we need to find a way to quickly make a non-poisoned cake before this guy gets suspicious.”
“You passed that point a while ago.” Grian called out into the shop. “I’ve done my fair share of schemes and recognize a scheming smile when I see it.”
Grian couldn’t help but smile as there was complete silence before the woman slowly came back out of the shop. “Right, so I guess, I don’t really have a cake for you.”
“No it’s fine. You said it’s poisoned? Did you use poison as a substitute for milk?”
“Well…”
“So you put both in there. That’s going to make this much easier. It always depends on the person, but milk normally stops any poisons, so a cake like that will just make someone sick for a bit but not actually poison them. Maybe just cause some nausea. It’s an easy enough fix!”
“You’ve… poisoned cakes before?” The woman asked.
“I’ve done a lot of things I’m not proud of… but poison cakes are not one of them, that was hilarious. Just not when it’s people I care about, which is why I even know how to fix it. Essentially we just need some milk and some netherwart. I’m guessing you have that somewhere?”
“Uh, let me check.” She turned to yell behind her. “Jack do we have any netherwart?!”
“No, but I can grab some!”
“Hurry up!”
“Yeah I know!”
The woman turned back to Grian. “So… it might take a little bit.”
Grian just leaned on the counter. “Oh I’ve got time since I don’t need to pick up a new cake. How about you start with that message and we can talk. What’s your name?”
“Uh, Niki.” The woman nervously answered as she grabbed the poisoned cake.
“Well Niki, seems like you didn’t like my brother much. I’d like to know why that is if you don’t mind.”
“Alright team, let’s get this place built.” Scar said as he rubbed his hands together. “We’ve technically only got fifteen minutes, so let’s make it count. Plus I managed to get a good sale out of thi-”
“Can we just start building already man?” Ren spoke up, and Scar jokingly glared.
“Oh alright. Start building!” And Scar used some vex magic to set up a little bit of localized time displacement for some super fast build mode. Though he wanted to help out as well, someone needed to stop the spell if any certain robots wandered over. And of course the only one currently around to do that was Scar, so he had to stay outside of it. Having never actually been on the outside of the spell, he got distracted for a bit watching everything happen, which was perfectly fine. Neither of the bots made their way to Aqua Town, and even if they had, Jellie was keeping an eye on things.
As things were still being built, Mumbo arrived and set down shulker boxes. “Sorry I’m late. I was up early of course, and so was Grian, but we got talking and realized there was something we forgot, so then I got busy doing that.”
“Well don’t worry about that Mumbolio, the place isn’t completely built yet, so decorating is still yet to come. The kids are still with Tommy?”
“As far as I’m aware, yes. Hopefully if they’re awake, they’re not causing too much trouble. Do you think they’re upset about not being with us for breakfast?”
Scar thought it over. “Maybe they’re a little disappointed, but I’m sure they’re happy about knowing that you’re setting something up for Grum, even if they don’t know exactly what it is.”
“I guess you’re right.”
“Yeah! Though could you also check with Tommy? I want to make sure I probably don’t have to worry about stopping the bubble and possibly also put up something for cloaking.”
“Right! Yes let me do that.” And Mumbo fumbled just a little bit before getting his comm to message Tommy. He sent a message off and waited for a bit for Tommy to respond. When one didn’t immediately come in, he got a bit nervous, but a few more minutes calmed him. “Well, they’re either still asleep or busy, so that’s probably good.”
“Good to know! Unless something changes in the next, I want to say five or so minutes, we should be good.” Scar responded, Jellie giving and approving meow as she groomed herself at Scar’s side.
“Well then I’ll keep watching for a message.”
“Got it. So, what did you get for decorations?” Scar asked, peeking into a shulker box.
“Well, his favorite colors are red and light blue, so there’s a lot of streamers and balloons and what not in those colors. Also got it in a music theme since I wasn’t sure how to make a party theme out of building.”
“Oh, that sounds nice. And got any plans for Grum?”
“Fantasy themed since he’s always going out to your village to play plus he seems to really like stories with that theme.”
“Alright, I’ll start drawing up plans for that tonight.”
“That sounds alright. Grian already sent an order in to The Boomers so this plot can be cleared again.”
“Nah, it’s fine. Keep it up. Better to keep the history around.I can sell another plot of land for the next party.”
“Well that’s very kind of you.” Mumbo started. “But again, it’s already been paid for. Though I’m sure they would be willing to listen to the change of plans.”
“Well, I normally wouldn’t suggest it, but you might buy a plot of land from Bdubs and get it cheap but using what would have gone to The Boomers.”
“Hmm, I’ll discuss that with Grian when he gets back.” Mumbo glanced down at his communicator. “Ah, they’re awake now. Tommy gave them the old reliable of a bowl or redstone though Grum got his with quartz.”
“Oh yeah, we’ll definitely finish building before they show up.”
“Then I’ll start prepping the decorations.”
.
.
.
Grian waved to Niki and Jack beforing picking up the cake box. “Thanks for the cake! And if you want to try killing Tommy again, you’ll need to try something sneakier to get past me!” Grian smiled at the pair, who gave nervous ones back. As he left, they retreated further into the bakery. To do what, Grian didn’t care since he had other things to pick up. Or rather, he had people to pick up.
Grian flew up into the air and looked around before spotting a snowy town to the north. That was probably Snowchester, which was where he was trying to go anyway. From there, flying to the town was easy, but actually knowing which house to go to was a bit more difficult. He didn’t immediately see any signs saying who lived where, so Grian’s first idea was to just knock on every door. That is, until he saw a certain ziglin looking out the window of one of the houses.
When the child saw him, he immediately started bouncing and ran off further into the house. Grian walked over to the house and knocked on the door, waiting as he heard movement inside. A few moments later, the door opened. Ranboo stood there, Michael now clinging to his leg and looking up at Grian. “Hey! I’m here to start picking people up and to be honest, this is the only place I knew to find people right now.”
“Well, I sort of know where some people are, but I can check if Tubbo is awake enough to help out with that.”
“Sounds good to me.” Grian agreed, then followed Ranboo into the house. As he waited for Ranboo to get Tubbo, the avian watched as Michael showed off some of his toys. Grian smiled and set the cake down to look at what was being shared with him. He was especially happy at the plush chicken, parroting a few clucks which made Michael squeal in delight.
Before long, Ranboo returned with Tubbo, who still looked a little tired, but was still awake and dressed. “Hey, sorry. Guess I slept in a bit.”
“No, it’s perfectly fine. I nearly did the same after being so busy the other day. We’re not supposed to start until a bit after lunch, so I’m early anyway, but Tommy’s back home and I only really knew about this place since Grum remembered it. No clue where everyone else lives.”
“Well, who all are you after again?”
“Fundy, Puffy, Wilbur, Techno and my dad.” Grian answered. “To be honest, just messaging them all would probably work if you could do that. My comm is a mess right now.”
“What happened to it?”
“I have never. Ever. In my life. Hated a chicken like the one I apparently own now.”
Tubbo and Ranboo glanced at each other. “Do we want to know.”
Grian sighed. “Probably not. It’s a long story. All I know is it messed with some ribbons, and when I tried to stop it, it broke my comm.”
“Well, I’ll message Fundy and Puffy. Ranboo, can you message Phil? I’m sure he’ll be near Techno or Wilbur, so that should get two birds with one stone.”
“Um, I’m the only other avian, thank you very much.” Grian said jokingly before he laughed. “But yeah, that sounds good to me.”
Tubbo nodded and sent some messages, Ranboo doing the same. Before long, they had responses from everyone and the only person who needed to be picked up was Techno, who was still living out in the middle of nowhere. Grian begrudgingly picked him up, dropping him on the landing absolutely completely on accident.
“Alright, I’ve got the cake, I’ve got all of you, you guys got presents or cards if you wanted to bring them?” Grian asked, looking at everyone, glaring at Techno to try and will him to not say he forgot something. Fortunately, Ranboo was the only one to have forgotten anything, and even then, Tubbo had remembered it for him. “Okay, good.”
Grian opened up a portal and gestured to it. “Alright, this should take you right in front of town hall, I’ll be the last through and lead you once I’m on the other side with you. Got it? Good! Let’s go.”
One by one, everyone made their way through the portal, the one exception being Ranboo and Michael who went through at the same time. Grian double checked everyone successfully got through before picking up the cake and- jumping as a chicken showed up, poking its head through the portal.
“Oh come on. Go back through!” Grian tried shooing the chicken with a foot, his hands full with the cake. Instead of listening, it just hissed at him, coming all the way through and pecking at his feet. “Ow! Hey! If you don’t go through, I’m going to close the portal behind me and leave you stuck here!”
The chicken hissed again before jumping back through the portal, Grian following behind. He handed the cake off before closing the portal and taking it back.
“So, I’m guessing that’s the chicken you talked about before?” Tubbo piped up, making Grian nod.
“Yep. Now let’s just head to the building. Follow me.” And Grian started walking, doing his best to dodge the chicken that kept following him and almost tripping him. “Please, how did you even get here from the mansion?”
The chicken of course didn’t answer, but it did move closer to where Michael was, the child enamored by the bird, especially as it currently donned a shiny ribbon around its neck. Michael wriggled to be put down, but after Grian’s reaction to the chicken, Ranboo was hesitant to let the ziglin leave his arms.
It fortunately didn’t take too long to reach the newly built building, a number of hermits on scaffolding around the place hanging up decorations. “Wait, what are you all doing? This wasn’t part of the plan.”
Etho slid down a bit of scaffolding to get down to Grian. “Yeah, well it’s a special occasion. At least it’s not another war right? But where are we putting the presents? I’ve got mine ready.”
Grian just sighed as Etho held up ribbons floating in the shape of a box. “I thought I paid for that.”
“Yeah, you did. But the kids didn’t.” Etho said, and Grian could hear the smirk from behind the mask.
“Alright fine, but there better not be any walls around.” Grian rolled his eyes and started walking towards the door.
“Wait actually there’s-” And Grian crashed into a wall of glass in front of the entrance. Etho grabbed the cake away just in time that it didn’t get destroyed, and Grian just laid on the ground.
“There’s a wall.”
“Yeah there’s a wall.”
“I hate glass sometimes.”
No one was able to stop Phil before he did the same thing as Grian and walked face first into the wall of glass he couldn’t see.
.
.
.
“Ace of spades.” Jrum said as he set down the card. To his left, Tommy smiled and put down a card of his own.
“As if that would work.” He set down an uno card. “Plus four.”
“Hey! That’s not fair!”
Tommy shrugged. “Too bad, I had it in my hand.”
“Yeah, I think it’s a great choice.” Grum nodded. “Jolteon, I choose you.”
At the same time Tommy and Jrum groaned at the card. “What the fuck Grum, I thought you were out of evolution cards!”
“Because you always forget there are branch ones.” Grum said smugly. “So that makes it your turn Jrum.”
“Okay fine! I’ve got garudamon. That’s a third stage card which stops your jolteon.”
“No it doesn’t, you used queen of hearts to get Philomena in there, so it only counts as a stage two.”
“Dammit! I forgot!” Jrum groaned, but then gestured to Tommy to take his turn.
“I play vertical half fire, half gold!”
“You added a seven dragons card to your deck?!” Jrum stomped his foot. “Where did you even get one?”
“Someone on the SMP had it for some reason. Cost a whole diamond for it.”
“Yeah, because you suck at bluffing.” Grum spoke up as he stared at his hand of cards.
“I do not!” Tommy retorted, crossing his arms.
“Yes you do. Mini outrage crowbar.” Grum put down a card which would normally be about the fourth the size of normal cards, but all of the cards were in sleeves so their backs couldn’t be seen, making it a level playing field.
“Ugh, I guess I’m down a point.” Tommy rested his head in his hand. “Fine, what do you have Jrum?”
“Battle!” He slapped down a very generic looking card. “Rock paper scissors!” Tommy threw rock while both the bots did paper. “Aww, no one did scissors!”
“Oh thank fuck. I need to draw anyway.” And instead of playing a card, he drew two instead.
“Well then that means I can play Legacy. The Revere ring means I won’t lose points the next time someone tries to take them!”
“Then I get to win!” Jrum smiled, making Grum and Tommy both look at him in shock. “I’ve got the two and a half of hearts! Steal double points if they would be protected!”
“Noooooo!” Grum groaned. “My points!”
From there, everyone dissolved into laughter and then put their cards away. “Alright, well I guess while we were playing your dad messaged me. Sounds like it’s birthday time.”
From there, Grum and Jrum stopped smiling to look at each other for a moment. “Are you sure? I mean, technically it’s my birthday, but at the same time, it’s also past then.”
“Because of the whole time thing? I mean, I guess, but did you guys actually celebrate or anything?” Tommy asked, the bots shaking their heads. “Then yeah, it’s your birthday. Don’t fight it. Even if you want to argue, pretend you don’t because you’re just going to get free shit out of it.”
“Hmm… I do like free shit.” Grum nodded. “Alright, I’m in. Let’s go.”
Tommy smiled at how he had rubbed off on the bot before leading them towards Aquoo town. Before they even landed, they spotted the new building and headed straight there, landing in front of it. Jrum and Tommy were both excited, but Grum still looked a bit nervous about it all. “What if something happens?”
Tommy turned around and went back to Grum’s side. “Hey, nothing bad’s gonna happen. Everyone’s in one place, only death that might happen is from minigames, but I think everyone made sure to not make those. I mean, there’s even a regen beacon set up just in case. Iskall and Stress said they’re going to try and stay away just to be safe, so they’ve probably already dropped off presents.”
“Why? I messed up with making it so they couldn’t come.”
“Hey Grum, remember my beach party? How I was freaking out thinking people wouldn’t show up like with my first one?”
“Yeah.” Grum nodded.
“And how I had no reason to be? This is kinda like this. There’s no reason to freak out, it’s safe and everyone’s trying to make you happy. And it’s not like you’re the only one getting this treatment, or are you forgetting my birthday.”
Both of the bots giggled at their memories of that. “Okay, I guess you’re right.”
“Does this mean we can go inside now? I wanna sca- I mean, see who’s here!” Jrum said, bouncing a bit.
“Yeah, let’s go in.”
.
.
.
The party was extremely eventful. A number of minigames kept everyone occupied and everyone was sharing stories. A few motes of interest came up during the stories, such as the wars Hermitcraft had had as well as the fact that L’Manberg started because of a drug van more or less.
When it came time for cake, the one Niki had made was presented for the whole singing of happy birthday. They had a little trouble as Jellie decided she wanted to try and eat some of the cake while the candles were still lit, but Scar managed to pull her away.
With a bit of help from a piece of paper being used as a fan, Grum blew the candles out. As everyone was given slices of the cake, Mumbo set a special cupcake in front of Grum that he could eat. The redstoner was about to give another one which wasn’t quite as extravagant to Jrum, but in the bot’s few moments of thinking he was left out, he stole a piece of cake and tried smashing it against his screen, only for it to disappear. “Huh… I think we can eat actual food now.”
No one was too upset about Grum getting a slice of actual cake, mainly as they were too busy trying to wrap their heads around what happened. Though it was also since Grum was the guest of honor. Before long, all the cake was eaten, no one showing any signs of being poisoned. From there, a whole cart of presents was pulled over, Grum wide eyed at the amount there was stacked there.
Grum looked at all of them, trying to decide which to grab. His eyes caught Etho’s gift and he pulled it closer and undid the ribbon. “Oh yay. Glass. How thoughtful.” Grum thanked, everyone giving Etho a few eye rolls or glares. Following that, everyone watched as the bot stared Etho dead in the eyes and ate it, Grian Mumbo and Jrum being the only ones that knew he could do that. “I eat quartz, redstone and diamonds. Why is this such a surprise?”
“Well, I guess let’s do real presents now.” Tommy said, handing an actually wrapped present to Grum. “That’s mine. I think you’ll know what to do with it.”
Grum was confused for a second before opening the present, eyes lighting up at the contents. “A stylophone! Yes I know exactly what to do with this!” Grum turned the small instrument on and tested the scale before just a few notes. “Okay, I think we want… eight ten eight ten ten eight, seven nine seven six.” He tested out the keys, glad that it sounded right, then he inhaled loudly before quickly playing the notes.
As soon as he finished playing the notes, he, Tommy, Jrum, Tubbo and even Grian all shouted at the same time. “LET’S GO!” And the room was filled with an extremely bass boosted song for a few seconds. Fortunately, since Grian had known what was about to happen, he quickly used some Watcher magic to save the ears of everyone with advanced hearing, something that Ren was grateful for since he had already gone through this once before.
When Grum went for the next present, everything shifted a bit and out popped the head of a certain chicken from the middle of the pile of presents. “Wh- how did you get in there?!” Grian asked, trying to pull the chicken out. It just hissed and pecked at him when he tried, leaving him to pull away.
Grum tried next and it gave no resistance, so he patted the chicken. “Were you trying to be one of my birthday presents?” The chicken gave a single cluck. “Well then, I guess Kokatori is my chicken now.”
“It’s named what?” Phil asked.
“Apparently it’s name is Kokatori.” Grian answered. “That’s what I was told when he was given to me.”
“Huh. Good to know.”
Grum’s next present was from his brother, it being a number of various cards and a new set of card sleeves. After that was from Wilbur, which was a guitar perfect for Grum’s size. Techno had found some sort of journal to give as a present. Scar gave him a diamond statue, which was also packaged together with Bdubs’ gift of lots of bedsheets, which he said were for pillow forts and not just because he had plenty of spares. Beef’s was a voucher for a piano, mainly because he couldn’t wrap it.
There were plenty of presents after that, but once they were all unwrapped, Grian and Mumbo pulled out one more. “Alright, currently it’s just covered by blankets because we didn’t have wrapping paper to cover something this big.”
“What is it?” Grum asked, walking over to the giant present.
“Well, when building you two, there were some things we had to leave out, so this is a recreation of something we had to leave out of you.” Mumbo explained.
Grum grabbed the blanket covering the thing and pulled it off, revealing a redstone machine that he soon recognized. “My music making system! I can finally make the thing that’s been stuck in my head!”
Before anyone could stop him, Grum started messing with the machine, and before long, a music disc popped out. Tommy always had a jukebox on him in some form, so he put it down and they played the disc. “So, what’s it for?”
“Well, Dad said he wanted to make a minigame for the barge.” Grum started to explain.
“It’s a shopping experience. Not a minigame.” Grian complained, getting a few laughs.
“Yeah, anyway, he needed music for it, and I had an idea, and, well, now he’s got something for it!”
“Well thanks for that.” Grian said, taking the disc out again. “Uh, we can make copies, right?” Grum nodded. “Alright. Well, the next question is if you want to keep this here and we can change this place into a music studio for you, or if you want it at the mansion or the ruin.”
“Hmm, here works, but maybe keep it out of the way ‘cause I want to play more games with people!”
“Yeah, I’m sure everyone’s down with that.”
The presents were put aside and people either went back to games, or excused themselves if they had somewhere to be. Grian had to take Puffy back as well as Wilbur, and then Fundy left to go see Iskall, Grum being understanding that he wanted to be with someone who wasn’t there and he knew longer.
Though he didn’t officially leave, Phil still stepped outside to get away from the noise of the party. When it was quiet enough, he pulled out a communicator and flipped through the contacts, finally reaching one he hadn’t touched in a long time. He pressed the call button and held the comm to his ear, waiting as it rang.
“Yeah, hello?”
“Hey, it’s Phil.”
“Phil? Hey, haven’t heard from you in, what, how many years?”
“Who knows. Just, A lot has happened recently and-”
“Hey while I’d love to talk, I’m sort of running out of battery and I’m currently the prisoner to some pirates who hurt my dragon and got them to fly off. I can call you back when I can, but for now it’s got to be quick.”
“Finally found Xelqua, I’ve got grandkids, looks like there’s a spy here.”
“Haven’t killed the spy yet?”
“Yeah that’s an issue because one of the grandkids likes it and has it as a pet now.”
“Oh wonderful. Whose kid by the way?”
“Xel’s.”
“Huh, thought he’d still be in jail. I didn’t think he had any sort of bail.”
“Wait, what are you talking about? You knew where he was this whole time?!”
“I sent you letters. I mean, before I moved to Minecrack, I was still doing my tv series. I’m actually back to doing it, which is where I am right now.”
“So one of your letters actually said you knew where he was? Now I wish I had read them all. Why couldn’t you just text or call for something important?”
“Because you never know what a spy can get into with all those digital things. The one you’ve got could-”
“Could what? Hello? Paul? Are you there?” Phil sighed and put his comm away. “Right, guess the batter died. Guess that’s something I’ll have to look into.”
.
.
.
The sun wasn’t quite setting when the party officially ended, but it was getting late. Everyone headed home left, Though Ranboo and Tubbo stayed behind to let Michael and the bots have a sleepover. Grum was especially excited about it when Grian came back from taking everyone home and seeming a bit out of it.
“Does this mean we can have a cuddle pile?” Grum asked, getting a nod from Grian.
“Oh hell no. I’m too manly for cuddling.” Tommy tried to argue, but GRum went over to him and gave him big puppy eyes.
“Please? It’s still my birthday.”
“...Fuck you.” Tommy replied, failing to the eyes with a sigh. “Alright fine, but the couples better not get too lovey dovey and shit.”
“No promises.” Grian said, tiredly. “But speaking of, where’s Mumbo?”
“Daddy said he was putting all the presents in some shulker boxes.” Jrum answered. “Amd I gonna get as many presents as Grum did on my birthday?”
“Yup.” Grian answered. “Welp, now that we know where he is, time to go to the mansion.”
Instead of flying them there, Grian just used a bit of magic to teleport them to his nest platform, flopping down on the hay a moment later. Tommy went and got blankets since he knew where they were while Tubbo and Ranboo watched over the bots and Michael as they played. Kokatori had also been brought along and played with the kids, though any time Ranboo or Tubbo got too close to it, it hissed at them.
Eventually Tommy returned with blankets as well as Mumbo, who had returned and helped Tommy with the blankets. Before long, everyone was curled up in blankets or wings or arms. Tommy was the last to fall asleep, thinking about how it all started when he and Grian were hanging out here. Now, here they were, a few weeks later with more friends and closer together.
Tommy shifted a little to pull one of Grian’s wings over him as a blanket, then finally fell asleep, and everyone was quiet.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Except…
With everyone asleep, Kokatori carefully got out of Grum’s arms and hopped out of the nest. It opened its wings and let a communicator fall to the floor. Opening it up, it saw the most recent use: a phone call in the middle of the party. Just what they were after.
.
oh whoops, I’ve got a sequel planned.
Sunsets and Stitches: A Forest Fire Siblings One-Shot
“Hey, Oscar!”
The hazel-eyed boy looked up as his name was called. He had been washing some dishes after the rations for the refugees had gone out. He recognized the voice. He spotted a blonde-bushy-haired girl striding over to where he stood. It was Yang. Even though it had been nearly a week since team RWBY - and Jaune - had returned to Remnant and reunited with everyone in Vacuo, Oscar couldn’t help the stab of relief in his chest at the sight of her.
Sometimes, he woke up in the morning in a panic, fear that their heart-felt reunion had been only a dream. Especially when it came to a certain red-clad girl… The feeling of Ruby’s arms around him, embracing him tightly, was a feeling so foreign yet so unforgettable at the same time.
“Oscar.” Oscar let out a small huff as a voice reverberated in his head, pulling him from the memory. Ozpin had been interrupting his thoughts and daydreams about Ruby every chance he got, scolding him about getting distracted in a time of war.
“Hey, Yang,” Oscar greeted, turning his attention to her as she approached. “What can I do for you?” Yang towered over him by a few feet, her wavy hair pulled up into a ponytail and cascading down her back like a field of wheat in the wind, glowing gold in the setting sun’s light. Her lavender eyes were unusually neutral, a change from the usual fiery determination that blazed in them. Oscar frowned and even Ozpin noticed something was amiss with his former student, concern pulsing from the wizard.
“It seems like you have a problem,” she informed him knowingly. Oscar felt his face redden and anxiety wormed its way into his stomach. Did she know? Yang was Ruby’s older sister, and was very protective of her. If she found out about his crush on her baby sister… He gulped.
Oz agreed, it might not turn out well. Especially with Yang’s very… vocal feelings towards him. She had forgiven him for hiding his secrets and then abandoning them, but she was still wary of the ages-old wizard, and she wasn’t the best at keeping her emotions to herself.
Yang raised a hand, and Oscar automatically tensed. However, her hand came to rest gently atop his head. Mischief glinted in her eyes, and a smile spread across her face.
“Your hair is a mess!” she exclaimed, ruffling his thick chocolate locks. “Have you ever grown out your hair before?” Oscar blinked, allowing himself to process what was going on, then let out an audible breath of relief. Ozpin hummed in amusement.
He played off his breath with a laugh. “No, never.” He raised a hand and ran it through his hair. He had decided to try and grow out his hair once they had gotten to Vacuo. Ren and Nora had supported his idea, the former giving tips on how to wash it and brush it to keep it from getting tangled. He hadn’t been doing so well, though. The wind blew sand into it on a daily basis and the sun dried it out, bleaching it to a pale brown.
Yang pulled her hand away and jabbed a thumb at her hair. “Well, lucky for you, I have. C’mon, let’s do something about this travesty.” She began to lead the way into the cool shade of the dorms, where they had all been staying. Once she had gotten Oscar comfy in a chair, she began to ruffle through some drawers and duffle bags.
He watched curiously as she pulled out a brush, some hair ties, and some other hair products. “I feel the need to warn you,” Ozpin started, his voice light with amusement, “That Ms. Xiao Long takes hair care very seriously.” Oscar smiled nervously as the said huntress dropped everything onto the desk in front of him and began arranging them.
“What does that mean?” Oscar inquired. “It means that you should probably do exactly what she tells you to in regards to your hair,” was his reply.
“Alright, kiddo,” Yang said, stretching her arms above her head and cracking her fingers. “Let’s get this mess fixed.”
Luckily, there was a mirror in front of him, so he watched anxiously as she picked up a hair brush and began to brush it through his locks. To his surprise, she was very gentle, starting at the ends, brushing through them with practiced expertise. He hissed lightly as the bristles came into contact with a particularly stubborn knot.
“Sorry,” she grunted. “The desert has really done a number to your hair.” Oscar scratched at one hand. “I should probably have asked for some hair tips before now, huh” he joked. Yang snorted. “I think we were all worried about more... pressing issues back then.”
Oscar instinctively raised his hand to run it through his hair - a habit he did whenever he was nervous or embarrassed - only for Ozpin’s warning to come too late and he felt the sting as Yang slapped his hand down.
“Ow!” he yelped quietly. “Hands down!” Yang barked. “Do you want this to be as painless as I can make it, or not?” Oscar rubbed his hand. “Sorry, mom,” he apologized dryly. Yang hmphed and continued with her work, her mouth twisting in concentration.
“It might be best to just rest your hands,” Ozpin suggested. “Easy for you to say,” Oscar grumbled internally. Oscar’s uncomfortableness with physical contact was well-known to the others, and he appreciated Yang’s slow strokes and gentle hold, no doubt to try and put him at ease. However, he often struggled to keep himself still, finding too much energy within himself. Holding Long Memory helped calm him, but he didn’t have it with him now. He was trapped between a desk and a dragon.
He elected to rest one hand on the desk, listlessly playing with the cracks in the wood, and dropped one hand to his shirt. He rubbed his thumb on the embroidered rose that he had asked Coco to stitch onto the hem. He traced the soft curve of the petals and the long stem as Yang worked.
Yang’s eyes glanced down to where his hand had fallen, her gaze zeroing in on the rose. Her lips thinned. “I don’t think I’ve gotten to tell you that I like your outfit yet,” she said, uncharacteristically cool and controlled.
Oh, shit, Oscar thought. Ozpin agreed, though chided him for his language as he did. “It seems Ms. Xiao-Long has exercised her powers of observation,” he commented. “This might not end well.”
“Uh, thanks,” Oscar said nervously. Ozpin’s comments did not help. “Coco made it.”
The upperclassman had offered to make Emerald, Ren, Nora, and him new clothes. He remembered going up to her in private and asking for the rose, his stomach as knotty as his hair. She had agreed, and even with her sunglasses keeping her expression hidden from him, he had heard the pity in her voice and the burn of her stare on his back as he left the room.
“It suits you.” Yang’s complement dragged his attention back to the present. There was a curtness in her voice that made Oscar want to squirm. He began to trace the cracks in the wooden desk with anxious speed. “Yang, I—”
She paused, lifting the brush ever so slightly from his head. “How far along is the merge?” Yang asked suddenly. Oscar’s head drooped slightly. “Far enough,” he said. Yang was silent for a moment, then, “I see.”
Oscar squirmed in his seat in the awkward silence, and Yang placed a hand on his shoulder to still him. “But I’m still me,” he burst out. “I promised that I would do as much good as I could with the time I had left, and I meant it.” Yang’s grip on his shoulder tightened, but not enough to hurt. “And how much good will you do to my sister when you’re gone and Oz is all that is left?” she asked. “Will it be good when you’ve gone and left her with a broken heart?” Oscar wilted. She knew.
“It is for this reason that I told you to find a way to dispel your crush,” Oz pointed out, backing Yang’s argument. Oscar felt anger bubble up in his chest. “No, you told me to forget it because it made you feel awkward,” Oscar retorted. “Perhaps, but—”
Yang, who had seemingly been waiting for an answer, realized that he was conversing with Ozpin and resumed brushing, which interrupted the two as Oscar jerked his focus back to her. Right now, it was more important that he make her understand, rather than Ozpin. He had argued with over this topic many times before with him, and it always ended the same.
“Yang, I would never hurt Ruby,” he promised, putting as much sincerity in his voice as he could. “I-I really…” He paused, then took a deep breath, remembering Coco’s and Nora’s advice. “Go slow, but be honest and forthright,” they had said. So, that’s what he would do.
“I care about her,” he admitted, finally sharing his secret. “I would never do anything to hurt her.” He felt the bristles of the brush prick at his scalp. “I know,” Yang said, the bite in her voice softening. “But you don’t really have a choice. Eventually, you will merge with Oz and—”
“Oz doesn’t have anything to do with this!” Oscar burst out. Yang froze, eyes wide. “I’m the one who cares about Ruby, not Oz,” he continued forcefully. “I’ve cut my life short for him, for the world, but I deserve to be able to do something for myself while I still have the chance… don’t I?” Yang stared at him with narrowed eyes, the brush frozen amidst chocolate tangles. She seemed to contemplate his words.
“But does my sister deserve to be left broken when the inevitable finally occurs?” she finally asked after a moment. Oscar closed his eyes, and ignored Ozpin’s attempts to give his input on the matter.
“Ruby deserves happiness and peace,” he said. He crossed his hands and rested them against his heart. Even months after the torture, the area where Salem had struck him with her magic was still sensitive to the touch. “I just want to help her achieve that.”
Even with his eyes closed, he could feel Yang watching him intently through the mirror. “You and me both, kid,” Yang said. “That’s all our mom wanted for us.” Oscar’s eyes shot open at the mention of their mother, Summer Rose. Ozpin went silent at the mention of his former silver-eyed student. Blake had shared the secret of the Hound with the others after they reunited at Schnee Manor back at Atlas, and Ozpin had realized fairly quickly what happened to his former pupil.
Yang let out a small breath. “Since we seem to be spilling secrets today, I might as well share one.” Oscar turned his head to glance at her curiously, only for her hand to stop it and move it back to where it was. She began brushing his hair again.
“I can’t tell you for sure why our mother left to face Salem like she did,” she started, her voice twisting with emotion. “But, I can give you my best guess.” Oscar felt Ozpin stiffen. “It was because of Ruby.” Oscar had a feeling that was going to be the answer, but he stayed silent, allowing Yang to continue. This was her secret to share.
“Back then, Salem was still hunting down and killing silver-eyed warriors, not… what she’s doing with them now. I think… I think mom got scared because Ruby was born with silver eyes, and knew that Salem would eventually come for her.”
Ozpin remained silent, but Oscar could feel him emanating complex emotions, mixing with his own. Oscar couldn’t imagine how he was feeling, knowing that his former student had been subjected to a fate worse than death at the hands of Salem, and he hadn’t been able to do anything.
“And so, she decided to strike first, to try to get rid of the danger to her family. But whatever her plan was, it fell through and she…” she trailed off.
Sympathy surged through Oscar, and finally got a good understanding as to why Yang was so adamant with her feelings toward Oscar’s crush on Ruby. She doesn’t want Ruby to feel the pain of a loved one disappearing again.
Talking wasn’t his strongest suit, but he would be damned if he didn’t find a way to express himself to Yang. “Oscar, wait,” Ozpin warned. “This isn’t a good idea.” Oscar took a deep breath. “You’re wrong,” he told the wizard firmly. “This may not seem like a good idea to you, but its what’s best for me.”
He met her gaze through the mirror. Her eyes glistened, though there were no tears.
“I understand that you want to protect Ruby from experiencing such pain ever again. But so do I,” he told her, conviction strong in his voice. “I promise you, merge or not, I will help protect her. But, she isn’t some helpless girl, either. She knows that the merge will happen.” He paused, thinking back to her . “But she has never seen me as Ozpin,” he continued. “She chose to be my friend, despite my circumstances, just as I chose to remain by her side.”
Yang quirked a brow at his response, and for a moment, Oscar feared that he angered her. Then, she burst out laughing. “Stay friends with you, eh?” Oscar frowned, confused by her reaction. “What, you don’t think we should even be friends?” Anxiety and anger fluttered in his chest. Wanting to protect Ruby from heartbreak by keeping him from admitting his feelings towards her was one thing, but to disapprove of her friendship with him entirely?
Yang coughed, her laughter dying down. “No, no. If only you two would remain just friends.” She put the brush down on the desk and picked up a hair tie, bright gold in color. “But, you have a point. Your life is your own, and my sister isn’t a baby anymore, not like she was when mom disappeared. Each of you can make your own choices.”
Though pleased that Yang’s disapproval had lessened somewhat, her words still confused him. “Why did you laugh at the notion that she wants to stay friends with me?” he inquired. “Oh, Oscar,” Ozpin sighed. “And here I thought Ms. Rose was the clueless one when it came to people.” Oscar’s brow furrowed. “Hey,” he scoffed indignantly.
Suddenly, Yang took a handful of his hair, gripping it hard enough that he yelped. “Really, Oscar,” she said. “Who knew that the one person you misjudge is the one person you like?” Oscar blinked at the connotations. “I-I misjudged that she wants to be friends with me? Has she said something? Does she not want to be friends with me anymore?” He began to fret. Had he done something? Said something? Was he too similar to Ozpin?
Yang pulled and bunched up his hair into a loose ponytail. “You said it yourself,” she said. “She can make her own choices. Why don’t you ask her?” As Oscar fretted to himself, she slipped the ponytail around the base of the ponytail, then wrapped it around his hair three times, until it stood up on its own. Yang stepped back. “All done!”
Momentarily distracted from his worries, Oscar instantly reached back to feel it. It was a small ponytail, but it held firm. He checked it out in the mirror. The golden hair tie stood out stark against his dark hair. It seemed to blaze as rays of sunlight struck it, like a ring of golden fire, from where they filtered through the window to his right as the sun sank further below the dunes. “Not a bad look for you,” Ozpin commented.
Oscar turned to Yang. “Thanks… for everything.” Yang put a hand on her hips, a grateful smile on her face. “No problem. I think we both needed it.” Oscar nodded. A relief had lifted from his chest, though worry over Ruby’s thoughts on their friendship still bubbled in his stomach.
Yang seemed to notice and patted his shoulder. “Hey, how I feel about your feelings toward my sister doesn’t mean anything, in the long run. As you said, she can make her own choices. If you want to know how she feels, ask her.” Oscar put his hands to his chest, clutching his vest, feeling the cloth rub against the tender, patched skin underneath, and looked out the window. The sun-baked sand turned tawny under the ember-glow of sunset, the desert sky clear and endless.
He turned back to her. “I think I will.” Yang’s body language still told him that she was worried about the situation and the potential consequences, but the familiar lavender fire had returned in her eyes. “That’s the spirit, pipsqueak. You do what feels right to you.” She patted his head again.
Ozpin sighed. “I really don’t think this is a good idea, but I have my doubts that you’ll heed my advice on this matter anymore.” Oscar puffed out his chest. “I can’t ignore that you’re a part of me,” he replied. “But for now, my life is what is ahead of me.”
☾vii. part vii: start of something new
Waking up in a warm, quiet room 199 floors from the ground at Heaven’s Arena, Sayomi sat up in her bed, blinking the sleep from her eyes.
She had slept more soundly than she had in a while, between Meteor City and the watching eyes of the Mafia.
But maybe it was the faint, earthy scent that Kite had left behind, or perhaps it was the fact that Sayomi was now free to live on her own in one of the most populated cities in the world. She decided it was the latter this time around.
A good night’s sleep had proved to resolve the conflicting thoughts in her head, as Sayomi settled that Kite was a good friend, and would never be anything more.
In this way, she was able to accept the reality that there had never been anything more than friendly interactions between them, and it would stay that way.
In all honesty, she needed a teacher if she was going to make a life out of fighting at Heaven’s Arena. And judging by the immense aura Kite had surrounding him even while he was resting, she knew he outclassed her in nen abilities.
As of now her nen acted as her last line of defense, still being rather inconsistent and hard to control. Though she had improved a great deal with her independent training in Meteor City, she still had a lot to learn about the potentials of her abilities.
Stretching out her limbs and rising from bed, Sayomi got ready for the day ahead of her.
☾vii.
Kite and his student were waiting for Sayomi on the 60th floor, as Stick Dinner had his 60s match later today.
The three would train in the gym on this floor as they waited for Stick’s match to come around. It was rather empty because the 60th floor was merely a transitioning floor where contestants would come and go.
Kite started his two students off with a basic nen introduction, explaining the four major principles: Ten, Zetsu, Ren, and Hatsu.
Sayomi had already learned all about nen and its history back when she was around 4 years old alongside Illumi. Kite was aware of this as well but needed to explain the basics to Stick.
A long lecture and one Water Divination Test later, and Stick was now educated of his nen abilities and excited to learn more.
They had now moved onto attempting to recognize Stick’s hatsu, which would become his own personal nen ability.
Sayomi’s own hatsu was already established, being her hypnotic spell and corpse control. And because she had only truly used it while fighting for her life in Meteor City, she still had significant difficulties with using her power.
Kite was also aware of Sayomi’s hatsu from the days he’d used to visit Kukuroo Mountain. He remembered Sayomi demonstrating her power on weak intruders and aggressive animals, their deceased corpses moving like puppets at her command.
Though he’d never say it out loud, it was quite terrifying.
For this exact reason, Kite had apologetically said Sayomi should wait until she was free to use nen in the 200s battles to train her hatsu. It was just too dangerous to practice for the purpose of training.
Therefore, instead of practicing her hatsu like Stick, Sayomi was put to work training her ren. She would have to maintain it for an hour today, and Kite mentioned she would eventually progress to longer durations of time.
Sayomi’s ren was intense, she had to stay 10 feet away from anyone else to make sure she didn’t affect them. Her body was surrounded in a malicious, deep purple shroud of energy, contrasting with Kite’s pure white aura.
☾vii.
Half an hour had passed with Kite’s training, said man working with Stick to strengthen his hatsu while Sayomi stood concentrated on maintaining her ren.
As of now, she was still fine, just rather bored with the method of training.
She opted to watch the on-going fights on the monitor above her instead of staring at the wall in front of her. However, this proved to be even worse, as the contestants she watched were all terribly amateur.
Sighing when she saw a contestant trip over his own feet on the monitor, she had caught Kite’s attention. “Not tired yet?”
Sayomi looked to Kite with a guilt-ridden expression. “Ah, not yet, but that’s not why I… nevermind. Sorry!”
Kite let out a rather short laugh at her frantic apology, walking just outside her ren aura to stand in front of her.
“No need to apologize. This exercise is meant to be a drag, it trains not only strengthening your nen, but also patience and putting mind over body. Looks like… you have about 20 minutes left, keep it up!”
Sayomi smiled weakly at Kite’s attempt at encouragement. He was a blunt person by nature so to anyone else his words probably came across as sarcastic, but Sayomi recognized his sincerity.
She thanked him with a short smile.
Around the 50 minute mark, Sayomi was finally breaking out a sweat, her arms and legs had actually been burning for a while now, but she’d been holding in any signs of weakness.
She was getting a little dizzy now, putting more force into her legs in order to stay upright and not swaying along with the room in front of her.
“Annnd time. Sayomi your hour’s up.”
Sayomi’s ren faded as she fell back to lean against the wall for support.
Damn, I must be out of shape or something.
Kite stepped over to where Sayomi stood trying to catch her breath. “Not as easy as you thought?”
She looked up with a sneer. “I’m just getting started, gimme a week and I’ll pass you up.”
Kite’s eyes were now filled with amusement. Having sent Stick off to standby for his match, he took a seat in front of Sayomi, motioning for her to do the same.
Sayomi sat cross-legged with her head resting against the wall, her eyes closed as she attempted to regenerate her aura.
“What’s your record anyway?”
Kite looked across at the exhausted girl. “About a day.”
“A DAY?!” Sayomi’s eyes flew open at Kite’s response, clearly having underestimated her instructor.
He only nodded in return, wishing to change the subject off of himself. “If I may ask... what exactly is the eldest daughter of the Zoldyck family doing at a place like Heaven’s Arena?”
There was the question. She was surprised he hadn’t asked her earlier.
To lie or not to lie…
“My parents sent me here as a test of strength. I’m not allowed back until I reach the very top.” Sayomi lied through her teeth, not wanting to tell Kite about her banishment.
That should convince him.
“The very top? Ah, so they wish for you to become a floor master. I see... well with the right training, you can surely get to that point perhaps within a few years?” Kite looked at Sayomi expectantly.
A few years? What the hell even is a ‘floor master’?
With a measly lie, Sayomi had screwed herself over. She had originally intended in making a few million jenny by cruising through the 100s and getting her own room. But with this whole floor master thing, she could already sense that her future at Heaven’s Arena would become much more complex.
The title does sound pretty cool though… maybe I’ll just go along with the flow for now.
“Right! Haha… they want me to become a floor master. So you think you’ll be able to help me get there?”
Kite looked deep in thought. Did I say something wrong?
Meeting Sayomi’s eyes once again, he spoke. “On second thought Sayomi… I’ve made a promise to train Stick Dinner, and with the danger of your nen abilities, I don’t think I can do you any good as an instructor.”
She was about to take back her words and say becoming a floor master was unnecessary, but he cut her off.
“However, I just realized something that I should’ve thought of before. I’m not sure how you’d get along, but there is someone with more experience than me at Heaven’s Arena.”
Sayomi looked up, interested in his proposal.
Noticing her apparent interest, Kite continued, “I happen to owe him a favor as well, because I’ve been staying in his room on the 200th floor with Stick. He’s… a rather interesting person, and he finds enjoyment in fighting powerful individuals. But nevermind his personality, I think you would benefit greatly from his experience both with nen and Heaven’s Arena, more than I could ever do for you.”
Kite examined Sayomi’s expression, it seemed to be a mixture of uncertainty and curiosity.
“I’m not proposing you make a decision right away, as he’ll actually be absent for some time… but I recommend you consider it as a possibility.”
In her mind, Sayomi was unsure of what to think about this mysterious acquaintance of Kite, but in her heart and soul, there was an undeniable hunger for more power and more recognition. If she were to become a floor master, her name would surely spread throughout Yorknew City and perhaps even reach her parents.
“When will he return?”
Kite smiled at her sign of interest in his offer. He knew she would be able to handle his colleague’s eccentric personality, and from there she would only have room to grow even stronger.
“To be honest, I’m not entirely sure. He’s a very spontaneous man, and the last time I saw him he mentioned traveling around the world to find his next rival.”
Sayomi thought about her current options.
“I understand… training my nen would most likely require the death of victims, which you would never allow, but without improving my nen I would seemingly get destroyed in the 200s matches. Right?”
Kite took a moment to consider her words. “Yes, more or less.”
Sayomi nodded in return. “So then supposedly… this acquaintance of yours would be willing to train my nen even if it would mean others will die?”
“Precisely.” Kite grimaced at her blunt deduction of his words.
Sayomi threw her arms back, resting her hands behind her head. “Well alright then! Until this friend of yours gets back I guess I’ll just see how far I can get without using my nen.”
“Acquaintance. But yes, I suppose fighting without your nen until he gets back would be a good use of time.”
☾vii.
Sayomi and Kite headed to the stands of the arena after wrapping up their conversation. Kite’s student was up for the next match, leaving the two childhood friends to watch amongst the crowd.
Stick’s match went smoothly, he had outsmarted his opponent by anticipating each of his attacks, and in the end all he had left was to tire him out enough to land the finishing blow.
He was now qualified to continue on to the 70s, while Sayomi’s fight would be the next day.
☾vii.
Kite stood leaning against the back wall of the 60th floor arena, his eyes focused on the light-footed girl currently playing around with her opponent in the ring.
He felt almost a sense of pride, watching the little Zoldyck girl who had used to be too shy as to even raise her voice, now dancing around in the illuminated arena full of confidence.
She was taking her time with the unworthy opponent who stood across from her. Under normal circumstances, Kite would have been infuriated with Sayomi’s disrespectful actions, but this time it was much different.
Her opponent had spent the final minutes before their match catcalling and spilling other obscene words towards Sayomi. Kite had moved to step in between the two contestants, ready to punch the man’s teeth in, but Sayomi had given him a look so full of malice he knew to hold back.
She was waiting to absolutely ruin her opponent in the ring.
So when he saw Sayomi taking her sweet time and making a fool out of the man who’d previously disrespected her, Kite only smirked in satisfaction from a distance.
Sayomi you’ve been through a lot, haven’t you… all this anger and hatred coursing through your aura.
In the arena, Sayomi brought a swift heel down on her opponent's hand. An attack that was worth no points but only for the purpose of causing pain.
Pain… who hurt you Sayomi? What ever happened to the girl who’d cried when she accidentally swatted a butterfly?
Kite experienced a flurry of conflicting emotions as he watched Sayomi torture and eventually knock down her opponent.
He was worried about her emotional health, knowing for sure now that she had experienced something so tragic and crucial it’d turned her pure aura a 180 degree turn into bloodlust and malice.
However, he was glad to know one thing was for sure.
She would definitely survive and benefit from his unstable colleague’s training, for now he realized they were so similar it was almost as if they were the same person.
Or perhaps two halves of a whole.
☾vii.
1 year later
It was the weekend and Sayomi was currently on an off day in between fights.
In the year that had passed with her progressing through Heaven’s Arena, Sayomi was now a single fight away from the 200s.
Admiring the view from Kite’s old room on the 199th floor, she smiled to herself. 200s at last.
The truth was that Sayomi had a room of her own now, being well into the 100s. However she’d already been so accustomed to using Kite’s room that she’d convinced him into switching rooms with her.
Now that all three of them had rooms of their own, the borrowed room on the 200th floor was empty once again, waiting for the return of its owner.
Sayomi had just finished combat training with Kite and Stick, still unable to use her nen because of the possible consequences.
As she gazed longer out the window in front of her, she started to see her reflection cast in the clear glass, and soon it was all she saw.
Who am I?
Staring back at her, the reflection she saw in the window was much different than she’d expected. Her violet eyes were dull, emotionless, and the passion that had once lit up her soul was now gone, replaced with a worn out ghost of who she used to be.
This was all it took to make Sayomi forget about all she had done to make it to where she was now. This, being her reminiscent thoughts about the family that had ditched her.
She may have declared to herself millions of times that she was indeed her own person now, but the lingering desire to be loved once again forced her start over every single time.
She needed someone to rely on, though she’d never admit it. It was her constant overthinking that she would only become a burden to those who cared about her that stopped her from seeking support in others. Her family had left her insecure and broken, desperate for someone else’s attention.
Let’s see… If Illumi and I are turning 19 this year, that means… Killua will be 9.
9 years old, huh…
I wonder if he still looks like me? God, if I were with him I think I’d spend every last jenny just to see that smile one more time.
...I hope you’re hanging in there Killua.
Just wait a little bit longer, and I promise I’ll come save you.
Forgive me I just need more time to be able to face everyone again.
Watching the sunset over Yorknew City from his new room on the 199th floor, Kite was currently typing back a response to a rather unclear message he’d received from his traveling colleague.
No matter how many times he’d read it, he just couldn’t decipher the exact reason or message behind the text he had received.
Staring at it with a skeptical expression, he read it once more:
Isn’t it quite amusing how fate plays out sometimes?
I’ve arrived in the city and can’t wait to meet this student of yours, as it seems I’ve already partially met her without even realizing it.
I can’t wait to start training with her. ♥️
Kite let out an exasperated sigh.
What does he mean by ‘I’ve already partially met her’? I swear he’s always so ambiguous with his words.
Damn, what an exhausting guy.
☾vii.
Today was the day of Sayomi’s fight that would determine whether she’d advance into the 200s. That meant it was also the last day Sayomi would fight without her nen and weapons.
However, her day was about to get much more eventful than a promotion into the 200s.
Kite’s acquaintance had arrived in the city the other day, and after a short visit to a friend, he would make it back to Heaven’s Arena later today to meet his new student.
Kite had no knowledge about this part, as all he was told was that he had arrived in the city.
Back in the 199th floor arena, Sayomi had arrived early, taking her time to stretch and enjoy the time left before her final fistfight.
Kite stood alongside Sayomi in the mostly empty waiting room, it would be his last day with his childhood friend, at least without an excuse to spend time with her.
Once she was in the 200s, Kite wouldn’t be able to do much for her, as he had his own student to manage.
He stared sympathetically at the little Zoldyck girl from his childhood. She had grown into a relentless fighter, leaving no time to enjoy living her life during her prime years.
All he could now was hope that his assumptions about his colleague were right, in that he would not only provide Sayomi with the right training, but also fun and other things kids of her age should be doing.
Sayomi finished her preparations well before the scheduled time of the fight, leaving the two with time to talk and reminisce about the old days.
They’d also talked briefly about Sayomi’s new instructor. Kite explained how he’d finally arrived in the city the other day, coming back from seeking out the most powerful assassins and hunters to challenge in fights to the death.
Sayomi was delighted at this, getting a feeling that this mysterious instructor would put up a solid fight against her while they trained. “You said he was on the 200th floor, right? Has he not been able to defeat a floormaster yet?”
Kite raised his eyebrows at her question. “Ah… no, not yet. But I believe that’s because he’s constantly sidetracked with trying to find his ‘perfect rival’.”
Sayomi bit the inside of her cheek, confused. “Hmm but if he’s back now… does that mean he found someone worthy on his trip?”
Kite nodded at this. “Yes, I believe so. It’s either he’s satisfied with the amount of people he’s massacred, or he’s found a formidable opponent he knows he can come back and fight at a later time.”
“I see… he sounds… rather interesting.” Sayomi was actually a bit excited, it’d been a while since she was to face someone of such a high reputation.
Beside her, Kite had taken notice of the slight change in Sayomi’s aura. It seems I predicted correctly, she’ll get along just fine.
☾vii.
“Our next fight decides who moves on to the 200th floor. We have Ichihiro versus Sayomi! At this time, choose your side and place your bets!”
Under the spotlights, Sayomi stood with her hands resting behind her head. Her eyes remained closed, she seemed to be taking the last minutes to relax.
“The bets are in! Looks like today’s match is in favor of Sayomi Zoldyck!”
Ichihiro let out a scoff, mocking his opponent who, in his eyes, seemed overconfident to the point where she didn’t even need to look at him. “Are you nice and relaxed over there, girl? I’ll tell you now you’re gonna regret facing me.”
Sayomi disregarded her opponent's words. In reality, she was worried, and anyone who could see her aura could notice this as well.
Kite turned his head at Sayomi’s restlessness. What is she so tense for?
Sayomi tightened her grip around her other hand. Inside her head, she tried to calm the exhilaration that stemmed as a result of her final match without weapons. She couldn’t wait to finally stand on the 200th floor.
In other words, Sayomi wasn’t afraid, or intimidated by her opponent. She was worried for him.
God damn… if I don’t calm down I might accidentally kill the guy.
The adrenaline rushing through her was threatening to spike over, which would cause her to lose control and flip her assassin switch on.
Relax, Sayomi.
“Fighters ready? Following the 100s rules there will be no time limit and fighters will fight until a TKO by 10 points or a KO.”
Sayomi opened her eyes, moving to stand upright as she stared at her opponent.
“The winner will move onto the 200th floor. Fight!”
Ichihiro held back from making the first move. He had reviewed Sayomi’s last fight and seen her strategy of using her opponent’s force against them.
Sayomi raised an eyebrow at his lack of movement.
Not gonna move, huh? So you think you’re smart.
She took off with steps faster than the average eye could see.
I guess I’ll just have to come to you then.
With a flexible left leg, Sayomi lifted her heel above her opponent's head, slamming it straight into the side of the unexpecting man’s face with a roundhouse kick.
Ichihiro stumbled to the side gasping, spitting out blood from his now split gums.
He raised his head ready to curse out the teen, but all he saw was white.
Sayomi had met the man’s face with a solid left foot, sending him backwards onto the ground with a cry of pain.
Ichihiro was clutching his bloody face now, unable to recover in time for yet another left swing kick, this time to the side.
From far back against the wall, Kite watched with a surprised expression on his face.
She’s holding back quite a bit. Only using her left leg…
A few more solid kicks to the ribs and Sayomi halted her movements as if on command. Turning to the baffled referee, she asked, “TKO by 10 points right?”
“Ah, r-right.”
Shaking out of his apparent shock at the one-sidedness of the match, the referee raised a flag. “Winner by TKO. Sayomi Zoldyck!”
The crowd cheered as they could now collect their money from the bets they’d made.
With a small wave to Kite at the back of the stands, Sayomi exited the arena with light steps.
She was proud of herself for restraining her bloodlust.
☾vii.
That night Sayomi treated Stick and Kite to dinner on Heaven’s Arena’s 200th floor diner.
It was a congratulatory dinner, as Sayomi would now be moving on to training her nen, but it was also one of sentimental feelings. The group of three had become close friends within the year they’d spent together training at Heaven’s Arena.
So although no one addressed the fact that the group of three was to become a group of two after today, everyone shared a bit of the sorrow in their hearts as the evening soon came to an end.
The three parted ways around 9, Kite wishing the best to Sayomi on the 200th floor. It wasn’t like they’d never see each other again, they were only a floor apart after all.
However, without the excuse of training or a coincidental passing by, the childhood friends knew that they most likely wouldn’t be seeing each other for a while.
☾vii.
Sayomi let out a heavy sigh as she walked alone down the hallway of doors to her room.
Releasing her hair from its taught ponytail, Sayomi ran a lazy hand down her face.
Can a day get any longer? All I wanna do now is take a nice, warm shower… and then sleep in till noon.
Arriving in front of her door at last, Sayomi reached into her pockets for her room key. Sliding the key into the lock, she frowned when she found the door to be unlocked.
Strange… I don’t think I’ve ever forgotten to lock the door before. Maybe because I was too excited?
Sayomi shrugged, speculating she’d probably forgotten to lock the door out of the rush to get ready in the morning.
Swinging the door open without another thought, Sayomi moved to take a step further into her room when a cold chill ran down her spine.
What… is… this devilish aura?
She was on full alert now, awakening her own aura to try and ward off her intruder.
In the darkness of her room, she could make out a faint silhouette surrounded by the deep purple, murderous aura she’d felt earlier.
“Who… are you? What are you doing in my room?” Though she’d sworn her voice was steady, there was a hint of uncertainty as the intruder’s aura became more intense.
The intruder turned to face Sayomi in the darkness. “Hm? Ah, you’ve finally returned… I’ve been most awaiting your presence, Sayomi Zoldyck.”
The man took exaggeratingly slow steps towards her, and Sayomi noticed he walked almost completely on his toes. Almost like he was walking across a tightrope.
She squinted through the darkness, perplexed at the stranger knowing her name. Her mind screamed at her to fight, run, do something, but her feet remained frozen in place as the man’s figure slowly illuminated with the dim lights of the hallway.
The man was considerably tall, though he was also wearing heels, an interesting feat. His brilliant red hair was styled as if he’d been caught in a windstorm, framing an all too pale face with distinct face paint decorating either cheek: a star on the left and a teardrop on the right.
In a way, he was handsome.
This crossed Sayomi’s mind as well, however she’d mentally slapped herself as she was brought back into the reality of the situation.
“How do you know my name?” Sayomi was on guard, ready to either attack or run on a moment’s notice.
The man only laughed, his pale lips turning upwards in a wide smile as he looked Sayomi over from head to toe.
“Oh darling, you mean you haven’t caught on to the situation yet?”
A step closer and the man’s full frame was now in front of Sayomi to see in all his glory. Broad shoulders, chiseled, toned biceps, a tiny waist, and proportions to die for.
Get a grip, he just broke into your room.
In her flustered state, both from confusion and the rather attractive man towering over her, Sayomi suddenly felt as though she’d forgotten how to speak.
Her mouth opened and closed without sound, concentrated entirely on the man in front of her.
Sayomi’s frazzled state seemed to add on to man’s already overflowing confidence as he let out another brief laugh before crossing his arms.
“It seems as though Kite has yet to tell you anything about my arrival.” He frowned before continuing, “Well, I suppose you’ll find out all about me in no time, I’m your new trainer after all.”
Sayomi eyes widened at his words. Of course, Kite said he was arriving soon, I totally forgot!
“Ah… well in that case… nice to meet you?”
Her new trainer smirked at her hesitation. “I have to say, I didn’t expect you to be so visually appealing, darling. It seems Kite decided to keep your beauty from me for as long as he could, that sly bastard.”
Sayomi felt her face heat up in a mad blush. No one had ever called her such things, as she was accustomed to words like vicious or murderous.
Sayomi failed to get the words out of her mouth once again, effectively fazed by the man’s comments.
Said man ran a slender hand through his hair, laughing once again at his undeniable effect on the young assassin.
Reaching out ever so slowly, he grazed his knuckles over the left side of Sayomi’s face, who in turn became even further flustered at the sudden skinship.
“You, my dear, are going to be quite the pleasure to work with.”
A Matter of Expediency - Part XIV
2.9 k After being married off to Kylo Ren in the name of securing an heir to the First Order’s throne, a princess tries to navigate the ins and outs of married life. As she grows closer to her new husband, the princess also carves out a place for herself in the Order, assuming control over her life when she thought she would have none.
---
Part 14
2.9k words
Mentions: family drama, crying, pregnancy, pregnant!reader, dead loved ones
---
Though it is your intention to deal with your family swiftly, your plans are pushed aside for a time.
In the wake of over twenty executions spanning across numerous planets and entire star systems, there’s much to be done. You spend days poring over work histories and background checks, working diligently to replace lost personnel. There are four positions that need filling on the Board of Charitable Affairs alone, though Hux is at your side to vet candidates. And then of course there’s spying to do, for several Valderan mineral companies are replacing key players in their operations. Canto Bight’s casino owners are kissing major ass, stolen funds need redistributing to various charities, several small insurrections must be crushed…
It’s like you blink and nearly a month’s gone by, days passing in a haze of paperwork, meetings, and formal appearances. You and Kylo are pulled here and there, always busy, always doing something, and the whole ordeal is more exhausting than you ever imagined it could be. Sleep becomes a luxury, and not for the first time do you find yourself marveling at the Chancellor’s ability to go without it. Still, the sacrifice is worth the reward, and you’re happy to see things straightening out amongst the Order’s possessions.
Finally, all is well, and you’re able to relax again. Handling your uncle and his children sits at the forefront of your mind, but you’re smart enough to know that you need rest before launching into yet another confrontation. Still, even after several days of decent sleep, you’re dragging your feet at midday, drowsiness clouding your mind and dulling your senses. More than once do you find the notion of taking a nap irresistible, and you sleep the sleep of the dead each time you lie down.
Miriam notices the change in your behavior immediately, though she says nothing as she helps you fix your hair and set your clothes straight each afternoon. Kylo is more vocal with his concerns, more insistent that you seek medical attention. He corners you one afternoon in your shared quarters, catching you just as you’ve awoken from another one of your naps.
“I fear someone or something has made you ill,” your husband presses, pushing back against your flippant view of the matter. You turn away from your vanity, amused as you take in your husband’s furrowed brow and tense posture.
“Kylo,” you say, voice dripping honey, “I’m just a little tired. I’m not dying.”
Your husband rushes to your side, taking your face in his hands as he becomes more desperate than you’ve ever seen him before. “My love, I am begging you—”
“And I,” you cut gently, turning to kiss the inside of his wrist, “am begging you to not worry about this.”
Kylo’s exasperation heightens, though you don’t let him go on.
“I’m fine, darling” you insist, fussing with the cuff of your husband’s sleeve. “I’ve never been better.”
---
Returning to the palace is almost surreal, everything just as you left it all those months ago. You hadn’t expected anything to change, not really, but the sameness of it all still makes your chest clench in the strangest way. Every rug, every tapestry, every artifact and decoration… each one reminds you of a time that was not long ago, though you can hardly recognize that version of yourself now.
Two Knights of Ren flank you on either side as you glide into the receiving room you know all too well, your only protection on your home planet. Kylo was insistent for a while there, demanded that you be attended by stormtroopers and Reds and a number of other personnel, but you managed to talk him out of it. Ap’lek and Vicrul are more valuable than fifty imperial guards put together, and besides, you are adored here— the chance of you being harmed is slim to none.
Your uncle’s throne still sits on its dais in the center of the room, this fixture too unchanged. You approach it cautiously, mildly afraid to be caught near the thing on principle. It was the cardinal rule of your childhood— do not sit on Uncle’s throne, not under any circumstances. How many tongue lashings had you received for climbing up here as a child? Ten? Twenty? You can’t be sure after all these years.
What you do know, however, is that your uncle’s throne is even more comfortable now than it was in your childhood.
As if on cue, the patriarch of your remaining family comes striding into the room, mid-conversation with one of his attendants. His entire body shudders when he lays eyes on you, no doubt surprised to see you, or anyone else, for that matter, in this room. Arriving unannounced was a key element in your plan, and, if your uncle’s wide-eyed, horrified gaze is anything to go by, it’s already having the desired effect.
You let your uncle splutter stupidly on the floor for a moment, let him go through aborted versions of your name, your old title, and your new one before he finally blurts, “What are you doing here?”
It’s by no means a respectful way to address his Empress, but you’re too pleased with the way he cringes at his own words to care.
Setting your expression carefully, you gesture about the room with one lofty hand. “I’m here for a visit, Uncle. I wanted to check on the state of things here.” Your voice drops, becomes less pleasant. “The state of our people.”
Your uncle looks as if he’s going to vomit. This pleases you.
Mila is the first to come before you, startled like her father was upon seeing your face. She has the decency to kneel though, to show you respect as she waits for her brothers to arrive. And they do after several minutes, the both of them looking ruffled and perturbed as they shuffle into the room.
“You do not kneel before you Empress?” Ap’lek snaps, incensed by the way Sebastian and Tensin make no move to join their father and sister on the floor.
Sebastian, the smart-mouthed little shit that he is, opens his mouth at once, no doubt about to spit something acidic and defiant in Ap’lek’s face. But your uncle stops his son before he can do something stupid, yanking the eldest boy down onto his knees.
“Shut up and kneel down,” the King hisses. “Both of you.”
Sebastian and Tensin need no further prompting after that, though they obviously aren’t happy about being forced to show fealty to you. Mila, however, looks almost afraid, refusing to meet your eyes even as she says, “To what do we owe this honor, Empress?”
You like this change in your cousin’s demeanor, like the way she addresses you with humility and respect. So, you answer her question calmly, though you can feel rage coming to a boil in your chest.
“I am here, Princess, to tell your father that I know what he’s been doing with his people’s money.”
At this, your uncle pales, shifting uncomfortably on his knees. He, too, now will not look you in the eye, an indirect but still very overt admission of his guilt. You can’t believe him, so shameless and yet so cowardly at the same time.
Your uncle drops his head, voice subdued as he speaks. “Empress, I think you’ve misunderstood—”
Something in your snaps then, for how dare he treat your like you’re stupid, like you haven’t been paying attention?
“Oh no, Uncle, it is you who has misunderstood,” you snap, rising from his throne. Venom drips from your every word, Ap’lek and Vicrul your dark, dangerous shadows as you stalk closer and closer to your family. “You misunderstand the purpose of your tax dollars; you misunderstand the needs of your people. They suffer under the financial burden you’ve placed upon them while you snort spice and fuck whores.”
“Do not speak to my father like that!” Sebastian shouts, jumping to his feet in front of you. His eyes are wild, but you are equally as enraged, getting in his face, daring him to so much as touch you.
“Harm me or my child and it will be the last thing you do, you insolent little fuck.”
All eyes land on you, the members of your family stunned into silence by the implications of what you’ve just said. Mila is the only one brave enough to speak, eyeing you from the floor with a look of utter shock slapped across her face. “You’re pregnant?”
Remembering yourself, you take a breath and set your hands on the almost imperceptible swell of your stomach. “Yes, I am pregnant,” you affirm, speaking softly as you think of all your days spent in bed and the way Kylo cried when you told him what you knew. It was the one reason he was so insistent that you come here armed to the teeth.
Your family looks upon you as if you’re a live explosive then, falling all over themselves to widen the distance between all of you. You crowd right back in, however, undeterred and unafraid. “All of you must understand, then, why I came to do this before my condition progresses any farther.”
Tensin decides to be bold. “And what would this be?”
Cutting your eyes away from him, you look squarely at the King. “I’ve come to take your father’s crown.”
The noise that comes out of Sebastian is indignant and angry. Mila gasps, eyes wide and terrified. Tensin turns white as a sheet. And your uncle? All he does is stare up at your stupidly, mouth opening and closing on what appears to be its own accord for several seconds.
“You can’t— You can’t do that,” he stammers, looking from you, to his throne, and back again. “You can’t— Who will rule in my place? You?”
“I have the galaxy, Uncle,” you state, voice even and calm. “I don’t need this planet.”
The King looks at his eldest son and then back at you, a silent question swimming behind his eyes. You refuse to answer it, simply holding out your hand and eyeing the crown that glitters before you.
“Take that ridiculous thing off your head.”
Your uncle hesitates for a moment, a look of utter heartbreak coming across his face as he finally reaches up and out, handing you his crown as instructed. You hold the thing in your hands for a moment, studying the craftsmanship, the fine jewels that glint so beautifully in the light…
And then you throw it at Mila’s feet.
The clang of metal against marble bounces off the walls of the room again and again, the sound almost painfully loud in your ears until Mila’s able to get her hands on her father’s crown— or, rather, her crown. You see tears in her eyes as she studies it, looking at the gold and gilding as if she can’t believe it’s real.
Your uncle is clearly bewildered, shaking his head as he asks, “Why?”
“Because she’s smarter and more capable than both of your sons put together.” You lean down, really get in his face so that he can feel your anger properly. “And to think that you were going to sell her to the highest bidder.”
These words suck all other protests from your uncle’s mouth, and you can see now that this is over.
“You and the Princes will leave this palace immediately,” you declare. “You are not allowed to return for a year.”
Tensin looks distressed. “This is our home!”
You eye him coolly. “Not anymore. I can’t have you poisoning Mila’s reign with your childish partying and idiotic ideas. Now leave me and your Queen alone, all of you.”
Your uncle and his sons stumble out of the room, dazed and humiliated. Mila finally rises to her feet once they’re gone still weakly clutching her crown in one hand. Tears stream down her face. She looks like she’s been punched in the gut.
“Don’t waste it,” you say simply, tossing your head towards the throne in the center of the room. “I can take it from you just as easily as I took it from him.”
“I won’t,” Mila whispers. You believe her.
“Goodbye, Your Majesty.”
And then you’re walking out of the room, your guards trailing behind you without a word.
Mila calls out after a moment, calls you by your title and then by your real name.
You turn to her. “Yes?”
“I—” Your cousin is distraught, eyes darting as she pants for breath. “I’ve been do awful to you. I treated you like dirt, I— You could have let Father sell me to that old man, and I would have been miserable. Why would you give me this instead?”
You stare her down for a moment, considering what to say. “I’m not like you, Mila. I’m not cruel.”
Mila shudders like she’s been slapped, and you turn to leave the room.
---
Ap’lek and Vicrul fly you out into the countryside after the lot of you make your exit from the palace, cruising at a comfortable speed as you take in the rush of scenery bellow you. This part of your planet feels as though it belongs somewhere else entirely, underdeveloped and free from the crowding of urban sprawl.
Your mother’s house, like the palace you just came from, is exactly as you remember it. The landscaping, the front steps, the courtyards— there’s not a blade of grass out of place, and the joy you feel because of this makes you want to weep.
Stepping inside is like stepping back inside, for you haven’t been to this place since you were a girl. Servants and small droids bustle about, putting on the finishing touches for your arrival. You’d asked to have the place opened up a couple of weeks ago, wanted to spend some time here after you finished dethroning your uncle. But now that you know you’re pregnant, you have other plans for this home.
Shooing Ap’lek and Vicrul away, you go exploring, halfway surprised that you still remember your way around. But no, you haven’t forgotten the layout of this house you love so much, these halls and rooms you played in as a baby.
You peek in your old bedroom, delighted to see that no one’s changed the colors on the walls. The same furniture that looked so big in your eyes then only looks average now— small, even. Your little window even faces the same flowers, the same fields, the same sunshine. At once, you decide that your child will know all these things too, just as you did.
Crossing the threshold in your mother’s room feels almost like stepping into a tomb, though the sensation is not one of dread or gloom like you thought it would be. Her bed and furniture are, like everything else in this house, just as they were when she was alive, though the vanity looks strange without her things strewn across it. You can remember your mother sitting there before the mirror, a tube of lipstick in her hand, a bottle of perfume close by. All little children think that their mothers are beautiful, and you were no different back then. Now, though, you realize that your mother really was a gorgeous woman, buxom and bright and so, so pretty. She would have you help her sometimes before she left for a party, would let you pick out her earrings or ask you which scent you liked better that night. Staring at yourself in the mirror, you reach up and unclip your own jewelry, laying the pieces out carefully on the vanity as your first action as this house’s new mistress.
The covers on the bed aren’t the ones your mother slept under, but you still feel like you’re crawling in bed beside her as you lie down. A length of time passes in silence after that, how much you can’t be sure, but you’re brought back to reality when you hear heavy boots in the hallway. Kylo appears in the doorway not one second later, quiet as he pauses to study you for a moment. And then he’s sitting on the edge of the bed and unlacing his boots, he’s lying down beside you. The two of your clasp hands, tangling your feet together like it’s the most natural thing in the world.
“How did it go?” Kylo asks, though you’re sure he already knows.
“Mila will be coronated this afternoon.”
Kylo nods, unfazed. “How are you?”
“I’m fine,” you say softly, reaching out to stroke his cheek. Kylo turns to kiss your palm, gentle in the same way he’s been gentle since he found out about the baby.
“This is a very beautiful house,” Kylo declares, leaving the topic of your uncle and his children behind. “Why are we here?”
“This is where I grew up,” you explain, fingers in his hair now. “I was born in this room.”
Kylo almost-smiles. “What a lovely place for a child. I see why your mother chose it for you.”
It’s your turn to nod. “I know. I… I want to be pregnant here. I want to give birth here, like my mother did. The baby needs to feel the sun on his face, needs to breathe real air when he takes his first breath.”
Kylo pulls you closer, kisses the top of your head. “I’ve always thought space was too cold for an infant.”
And just like that, the matter’s settled.
Everything’s settled.
Meeting Xing and Citrine Part 3
A/N: Time for the third installment of a collaboration between @tanakaclinkbeard and myself. Features his OC kids (Xing Xiao-Long and Citrine Rose Arc) going to my AU and mine (Rowan and Summer) going to his. If you would like to see how they’re doing go check out his blog. Now on with the show!
- Xiao Long Residence -
Taiyang crouches down as he keeps the watering can in his hand, tending to his sunflower bed in front of his cabin home. The veteran Huntsman now grown old and even grew a nice beard during his free time, enjoying his recent retirement.
Ruby: Morning Dad!
Taiyang lifted up his head as he recognized that voice from anywhere, a warm smile graced his face as he got up to greet his daughter’s family.
Taiyang: Petal, what brings you byyyyyyy-
Taiyang loses his train of thought as both his daughters walk up the path but he sees two entirely new young children who were not the grandchildren he was expecting.
Yang: Hey Dad, we got two kiddos that we’d like to introduce to you
Citrine lets out a cheer and runs up and jumps into Tai's arm.
Citrine: Grandpappy!
Xing with his eyes still red from crying never left Yang's side and clutched her pants leg, giving Tai a wave and doesn't really look at anything but the ground.
Xing: Hi.
Taiyang: Um, Hi there. Ruby? Yang??
Citrine proceeded to climb up Taiyang like she did Ruby before.
Taiyang: Whoa! Haha, easy there, this old man ain’t what he used to be.
Citrine giggles and looks up and gives Tai a big hug.
Citrine: Missed you!
Tai was still a bit confused as to what was going on, but hugs the tiny girl in his arms nonetheless.
Taiyang: Girls, perhaps he can continue this conversation inside?
Ruby: That sounds fair.
____________________
Taiyang: So these two are from another universe where you are married to Jaune, you get pregnant and have a child, while both Rowan and Summer were sent to their universe.
Yang: Basically.
Taiyang: And this was done because...?
Ruby: We’re still not entirely sure.
Xing listened to the adults silently, never saying a word, but in his eyes there was a touch of sadness. While this man may look like his grandfather, it was clear to him that this was not the same grandfather he knew, and therefore did not immediately recognize him or Citrine as his own.
Yang: But they are two great kids and were happy to meet them!
Taiyang: Well while I’m happy to have more grandchildren, won’t their parents be worried sick if they find them missing?
Xing is still holding on to Yang while Citrine bounces around.
Citrine: What’s this? What’s that? Where’s Uncle Zwei? Is he back yet?
Taiyang: Uncle... Zwei?
Ruby: Yes their Uncle Zwei who’s definitely related to us and is your son, right Daddy?
Xing wordless takes out his scroll and hands it to Tai showing the same picture he showed Yang and Ruby earlier.
Taiyang: ....OH! I see, right of course, Zwei! Oh that son of mine. He’s ah... on a mission right now, just missed him.
Citrine: Awww! I wanted to see him. Does he have a different haircut? Does he have kids? Am I older than them?! Xing! Don't you wanna know?
Xing: ....Not really.
A bark is then heard coming from the kitchen.
Taiyang: .... Uh oh.
Xing looks up as well as Citrine who sequels
Citrine: Puppy?!
Xing once again does not move from where Yang was, still clutching on to her.
She gets ready to bolt where the barking is from, but Ruby gets up just in the nick of time.
Ruby: (‘SHOOT! I completely forgot about our Zwei being at Dad’s house!’) Um, Citrine, wait sweetie!
Citrine stops and gives her alt mother a pouty look.
Citrine: But puppy mama!
Ruby: Well you see Sweetie, Dad’s dog is a big old and needs to be handled delicately.
Just then the black and white corgi comes in from the kitchen, tongue out and moving about as youthful as ever, despite the few gray spots here and there.
Zwei: *Barks!*
Yang: Delicately sis? Really?
Citrine gasp and runs up to pick him up.
Citrine: Soooo cuteeeee!
Zwei (corgi) then starts to lick at her face.
Xing: Oh. That's what he looks like here.... that's weird.
Yang: Man you sure are smart kid. ‘Sniff’ So proud…
Xing blushes and hides his face.
Xing: Thank you.
Ruby: ‘sigh.’ Well since the dog is out of the bag- Shut it Yang! I should just tell her. I hope she’ll understand though… Sweetie can I talk to you a minute please?
Citrine: I can still hold him right? Pleaseeee?
Ruby: Of course.
Xing: ...My head hurts mom. Can I leave the room?
Yang: Hm? Oh sure thing Xing, you can rest in one of the rooms upstairs if you want.
Xing gets up and wordless goes up stairs as Citrine walks up to Ruby.
Ruby: Now sweetie, you know I love you right?
Citrine: Ye!
Ruby: Ok good, because I have something to confess.... I haven’t been entirely truthful to you.
Citrine: Huh?
Ruby: I may have told you a half truth because I didn’t want to confuse you or make you sad but now I realize that by hiding this truth from you that I’m also going to hurt you. So I’m very sorry that I had to keep it secret, but understand I did from a place of love. ‘Sigh’.... Citrine. That corgi you’re holding. That’s Zwei.
Citrine gives Ruby a blank stare for a few minutes
Citrine: .....Why does the puppy have the same name as uncle Zwei?
Ruby: No sweetie, what I’m saying is... This IS our Zwei. I don’t have a brother in my world. So... he doesn’t exist here.
Citrine looks even more confused.
Citrine: But.... you said he was on a mission.
Ruby: I know, I know what I said... I-I only said that because I didn’t want you to find this out right away. I wanted to spare you that pain and didn’t want to make you feel confused.
Citrine: ....I don't get it....
Yang: Citrine, you know how me and your mommy are not like us right? We’re different.
She nods, still petting the corgi in her arms.
Yang: Well it’s kinda like that, like how we’re different from your Mommy and Auntie Yang, our world is also different.
Citrine stared at them for a while before smiling widely.
Citrine: Okay! Can I show Xing the puppy?
Ruby: Sure thing sweetie.
She jumped up, it was clear to both of them that she didn't really understand, and wanted to move from her spot. She ran up stairs to where Xing was.
Taiyang: I’m still not entirely sure what is going on, but I do hope she and Xing are alright, this must all be very confusing for them.
Yang: Yeah... no kidding.
A scream was heard from upstairs as Citrine cried Yang's name out.
Citrine: Autine Yang! Star's noise is bleeding!
Yang: What?!
All three members of the Xiao-Long household quickly ran up the stairs and went to a room which had an open door.
Citrine was crying holding on to Xing, who was clutching his nose looking embarrassed at the wall. A Lot of blood was pouring from his noise, staining his clothes.
Citrine: Xing please don't die!
Xing looked at the adults awkwardly.
Xing: …Hi.
Yang: Oh gods Xing! Uh I mean, it’s ok, look we’ll get you clean up. Dad can you get some tissues, soap, and a clean shirt?
Taiyang: Sure thing.
Ruby: Oh Xing, what happened? How’d this happen?
Xing: Um... my powers are acting up.
Taiyang comes back with all the things .
Taiyang: I’m back, what'd I miss?
Yang: Powers? Xing what are you talking about?
Xing: Do- Do you guys have maledictus-eris here?
Ruby eyes widened just for a moment upon hearing those words.
Ruby: What did you just say...?
Xing: Auntie?
Yang: Oh gods.... Shoot, where’s Ren when you need him? Look sweetie, don’t worry, let’s just get you cleaned up real quick.
Xing: Uncle Ren and Zwei usually helps me... Da long doesnt like me....
Taiyang: Da Long?
Ruby: Look Xing, sweetie, I need you to listen to me carefully. How many times has your nose been bleeding like this?
Xing: Like as of today?
Ruby: As far as you can remember.
Xing: Um. Since I was 5.
Ruby: ....We need to get him to Anima.
Yang: Wait now?
Ruby: Yes now Yang. {turns to Citrine} Sweetie, want to go see Auntie Nora and Uncle Ren?
Taiyang: Wait can someone explain what’s going on?
Yang: Ruby he can’t travel like this.
Ruby: I know! I just- I’m trying to think.
Citrine cheers and then goes quiet and gets nervous.
Citrine: Um... is Valerie there?
Ruby/Yang: ....ah crud.
Xing: Valerie isn't gonna be there Citrine. She is back at home.
Citrine: .....
Xing: I can survive the trip mom.
Yang: Are you sure? You don’t need to rest or anything?
Xing: I just want Da long to leave me alone.... I'm... I'm not weak!
Yang: ....Ok then, then let’s go to Anima. Lucky for us, I know a quick way to get there.
Xing nods and lays back on bed.
Yang leaves the room briefly and pulls out her scroll and dials a number.
Yang: Hey it’s me. Listen I know it’s short notice, but... I need a favor. Can you get us to Anima today?
Jaune’s day has been one of questions. First he woke up feeling like someone lit a bonfire in his skull along with the vague recollection of a party the night before. Must’ve been a big one for the mess outside. Then in an odd bout of awareness, he started taking note of how different everyone was acting and how they were treating him, including the students from the other academies. Some guys are giving him death glares while others are thanking/congratulating him. Some girls are stalking him, a few catcalled him, he even recognized the looks on some as the look Saph gives Terrra, among many other things. Glynda seems shy! His friends aren’t much better either. Weiss is calling him by his first name and weirdly friendly, Blake is doing the whole ‘I’m going to pretend I’m aloof but I really want your attention’ clingy cat bit, Nora looks wore out, Ren looks smug, Yang is blushing, Pyr is near glowing, and Ruby is stuck in la la land. Ozpin is the only one who seems unfazed. Is anyone going to give him any answers? Probably not.
Ozpin: Mr. Arc, how might I help you?
Jaune: Hello, Professor Ozpin. Um, I was just wondering what happened last night?
Ozpin: I see. Please, take a seat. What do you mean by "what happened last night", Mr. Arc?
Jaune: Well, I woke up this morning in the arms of the statues, and my head felt like someone poured fuel onto it and just tossed fire dust on top.
Ozpin: I take it you've already seen the nurse?
Jaune: Yes, sir, but my morning only got weirder from there. I was in the waiting room at the nurse's office when some guys I never met threatened to break my arms!
Ozpin: Oh my. And what did you say to defend yourself?
Jaune: I didn't need to say anything! Some girls I never met came by and threatened them, and they took off. Then the girls looked at me, and, well, I didn't feel any safer.
Ozpin: How so?
Jaune: Well, it was kind of like... Did you ever have a cat, sir?
Ozpin: A long time ago, yes.
Jaune: Well, it was like pointing a laser pointer on the ground. Like something clicked inside them, and now they're hungry for something!
Ozpin: The thrill of the hunt perhaps? And what next? Did they sink their claws into you?
Jaune: Very funny, sir, but no. They got scared away by someone else.
Ozpin: Oh, and who might that be?
Jaune: Well-
CREAK!
Glynda: I'm sorry I'm late, Ozpin. I had a difficult night last- J-J-Jaune?!
Jaune: Hello, Professor Goodwitch!
Ozpin: Ah, Glynda! Perfect timing! Perhaps you can help Mr. Arc? It seems he's having trouble remembering the details of the previous night.
Jaune: Do you know what happened?
Glynda: What... happened? (Blushing red, Looking away) Oh, where to start? Perhaps... No, it's too soon! I-I apologize, but I must attend to my class!
Ozpin: It's Sunday, Glynda.
Glynda: (Laughs hysterically) Yes! Papers to grade! Assignments to, uh, assign! (Leaves quickly)
BAM!
Jaune: Aw, I wanted to thank her for helping at the waiting room.
Ozpin: Ah, so she was your savior?
Jaune: Yeah, but then she got red in the face and ran off. I guess it wasn't serious enough for the nurse to look at.
Ozpin: Was this previous encounter like the one just now?
Jaune: Yeah, it was actually!
Ozpin: Interesting... Speaking of waiting rooms, I take it you were able to see the nurse.
Jaune: Yeah, I did. Apparently, it was a hangover. She said she wasn't surprised after what happened last night.
Ozpin: Ah, that explains the initial problem of your headache.
Jaune: Yeah, but then it leads to more questions! What happened for me to wake up hungover on the statue?!
Ozpin: The plot thickens yet, Mr. Arc. Perhaps if you explained what happened after you left the nurse's office? Did you come straight to my office?
Jaune: No, not yet. I had to head back to shower, so I went back to my dorm. On my way, I ran into Team RWBY.
Ozpin: Yes, and how is Team RWBY?
Jaune: Weird. Really weird.
Ozpin: More so than usual?
Jaune: Yeah. Definitely more.
Jaune: Hey, girls!
Weiss: Oh! Good morning, Jaune!
Jaune: Uh, good morning?
Ozpin: Hardly cause for alarm, Mr. Arc. Ms. Schnee was greeting you.
Jaune: Yeah, with my first name!
Jaune: What, uh, are you guys up to today?
Weiss: We're going to Vale later.
Blake: If you want to come, you can. I mean, n-not like I care.
Jaune: Uh, I'm gonna be here all day.
Blake: AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, really?! Have fun!
Jaune: ...Thanks, I will.
Ozpin: Ah, this is starting to make sense, little by little.
Jaune: Really? Because I am so lost!
Ruby: Eheeheeheehee...
Jaune: You okay, Ruby?
Ruby: Heeheehee! Mmhm!
Jaune: Is she okay? Yang?
Yang: (Ducks behind Weiss)
Ozpin: Rather uncharacteristic of Ms. Xiao Long.
Jaune: Oh, good, so it's not just me. Like, what was wrong with Ruby?
Ozpin: Perhaps the answer lies just a little further?
Jaune: I sure hope so.
Weiss: They're fine, Jaune. We need to hurry before the bullhead leaves. Good-bye, Jaune, and thanks again for last night!
Jaune: Last night?
Ozpin: Last night seems to be the catalyst of these events.
Jaune: If only I knew what what happened. Oh! What about the cameras?!
Ozpin: Cameras?
Jaune: The security footage of last night!
Ozpin: That seems like an excellent point to start. I'll just turn on my computer.
Jaune: You leave your computer off?
Ozpin: It saves on energy bills. There. While it's warming up, continue with your tale. I believe you entered your dorm room?
Jaune: Yeah, and I couldn't believe what I saw when I got back.
Jaune: Hey, guys, I'm back.
Nora: Mmmmmmm...
Jaune: She was just laying there. Not doing anything.
Ozpin: And that's terrible?
Jaune: At ten in the morning? Yeah, it is. Nora's usually up and in everyone's face before seven, but here she was, unconscious on her bed, groaning and mumbling instead of talking.
Ozpin: I suppose it is uncommon for her.
Jaune: I've never seen her like that. Or Ren like he was.
Jaune: Everything okay, Nora?
Nora: Ugh... Mm... Pluh...
Jaune: Uh, okay?
Ren: She's just tired.
Jaune: Oh, morning, Ren! Tired, though?
Ren: It happens. Not often, but it's never unwelcome.
Jaune: I guess. It's weird, though.
Ren: I suppose... if you don't have the stomach for it.
Jaune: Huh?
Ren: But I suppose you don't have the stomach for much, do you, Jaune?
Jaune: What are you-?
Ren: But I digress. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must shower before Nora awakes. (Steps into the bathroom)
Jaune: ...What just happened?
Jaune: He just got all smug, like he was king of the world, and I was some poor country he just conquered to get there!
Ozpin: That is a bit unusual. One would almost say it was out of character for him.
Jaune: You're telling me.
Ozpin: How did your team react when you told them?
Jaune: Well, Nora was still on the bed, half-conscious, and Ren just went into the bathroom. As for Pyrrha, well...
Jaune: Pyrrha? (Nudges her) Pyrrha? It's time to wake.
Pyrrha: (Mumbles, Stirs)
Jaune: Good morning, sleepy-
Jaune: And that's when she punched me.
Ozpin: I take it she apologized?
Jaune: Yeah, or at least I think she did. I don't know what happened, but her face got all red and she started babbling something I couldn't understand.
Ozpin: What did you do?
Jaune: I apologized, and told her that if she needed her space, I would give it to her.
Ozpin: And she calmed down after that?
Jaune: No. If anything, I somehow made it worse. She passed out, so I brought her down to the nurse's office. When I came back up, I told Ren and took my shower.
Ozpin: I see. Well, according to my messages, she was released just a few minutes ago.
Jaune: Phew, that's a relief.
Ozpin: ...
Jaune: ...Wait a minute.
Ozpin: I could wait more.
Jaune: You got a message from the nurse's office! That means your computer was on!
Ozpin: It always was.
Jaune: Why didn't you tell me?!
Ozpin: Two reasons. The first was because I wanted to know your side of the story.
Jaune: Okay, and the second?
Ozpin: The second is this.
CRACK!
Jaune: Ow!
Ozpin: Was for your participation in the party last night, of which my school's destruction is primarily your fault.
Jaune: What?!
Ozpin: See for yourself.
Video 1: The boys of Beacon gathered around a large table, various alcoholic drinks in front of them. Jaune looks nervous, but gains more confidence as the drinks diminished. Eventually, the final four were Jaune, Cardin, Ren, and Fox. Fox then tapped, followed by a puking Cardin, leaving it to the JNPR boys. With a final swig, Jaune set his glass down and stood up. He wandered off-screen, where he never returned. (TIME 8:15-8:27PM)
Video 2: A DJ blasts music in the ballroom as students dance with one another. Jaune stumbles into view until he reaches the DJ. He belches away, then loudly whispers something. Jaune then makes his way to the dance floor, patting his face to ready himself. The song, (Later revealed as "Boiling" by Shelly, based on the DJ track recording) begins to play, signaling Jaune to start dancing... provocatively. He then slips out of his shirt, his body glistening with sweat as if the song was boiling the student. Other students joined in, most noticeably females in their undergarments. One Yang Xiao Long pushed them away, pressing herself into him. He responded by pressing himself into her. As the song ended, Jaune shoved himself into a kiss. The Blonde Brawler became limp and fell to her knees once released. He walked away, leaving her to reach out to him as he tossed his shirt over his shoulder. (TIME 8:30-8:35PM)
Video 3: In the library, Weiss and Blake are sitting at a table, quietly reading. Jaune stumbles in, where he beelines for the water fountain, chugging as much as he can. He then collapses into a seat between the two. The two look at him, then Weiss points her finger at him, clearly shouting something. Jaune nods, then says something. Weiss jabs at him again, but Jaune grabs her arm and pulls her in for a hug. She struggles, but then relaxes into it as Jaune strokes her hair. He looks over to Blake, offering to make this a group hug. She refuses, to which he shrugs. He then walks away, waving goodbye to them. Weiss excitedly waves back, while Blake shyly waves with a blush. (TIME 8:49-9:08PM)
Video 4: In the courtyard, Ruby and Nora are throwing toilet paper around, laughing as they do so. Jaune shows up, wearing his shirt again, asking to join. They pass him a few rolls, with which he covers everything from benches to trees to lampposts, and even over the roof at one point. He covers a camera, mostly obscuring the vision. From one side, however, comes a livid Professor Goodwitch. She, too, then becomes obscured. (TIME 9:30-9:56PM)
Video 5: In a hallway, everything is quiet. No students approach from either direction. No toilet paper thrown. Nothing moved, until a door swung open. Leaning against the doorway was a panting Jaune Arc, shirtless with his pants around his ankles. His body then lifted off the ground a few centimeters, before flying backwards into the closet. The door came shut soon after. (TIME 10:15-11:45)
Video 6: Outside the teacher's lounge, there were also no students. However, this changed when Jaune walked into view, carrying a surprisingly affectionate Professor Goodwitch in his arms. She opened the door, allowing them to enter. Much later, Jaune would exit alone, leaving Glynda inside. (TIME 11:59PM-12:30AM)
Video 7: Jaune stumbles out to the statue, looking up at the heroes of Beacon. He walks around to the front, where he is not seen again for the rest of the evening. Later, Pyrrha runs from the front, her face red from who knows what. (TIME 12:36-12:45AM)
Jaune: Wow...
Ozpin: Indeed. Now, I ask you; what do you intend to do to clean up your mess?
Jaune: Well, I think I'll start with the benches, then work my way up.
Ozpin: The emotional messes, Mr. Arc. My students, and one of my faculty members, are in disarray after your actions last night.
Jaune: Oh, right. Well, I'll just have to talk to them.
Ozpin: Anyone in particular?
Jaune: I think... I'll start with Miss Goodwitch. She's the most mature of the hearts I broke, so I'm hoping we can talk this out like adults.
Glynda: I'd like that. (Jaune whirls around) And please, call me Glynda.
Fruits Basket - Vol. 20
I want to try to break the book into three main chunks. The last time I did that, it was easier to write about. So uh, the first chunk has to do with Tohru and her feelings about Kyo, and Kagura's reaction, the second chunk is Akito and Ren's past being revealed (it's totally a mess but it's to be expected), and the third chunk is about things unraveling.
Ok cool let's do it. (The picture was at the end of one of the chapters, I just liked it a lot idk) (also tumblr needs to increase the character limit for the alt text, it's only 200 characters, which goes by quick. twitter has like,, 420, which is more manageable)
Tohru came to Kazuma's house to visit Izusu, and Kagura came to confront Tohru about something. What possibly could it be (as if I didn't say so in the beginning)? Kagura was talking about it a bit with Kazuma, and he said he just hopes that Tohru's feelings don't come from a place of pity (which is a mild "oof" point for Kagura, because that's mostly why she loved Kyo), because Kyo has had to deal with people either flat out hating him, or being nice to him out of a sense of pity. Even Kazuma admitted (earlier in the series. I don't remember when but I remember reading it) that part of the reason he took in Kyo as a child was because he was making it up for how he treated his grandfather, the previous Cat. Over time, those feelings fell away, in favor of genuinely caring for Kyo's wellbeing, but Kazuma doesn't seem to be the one who would forget about stuff like that. (Also it turns out that the previous Cat's partner basically stayed with him out of a sense of pity, as well)
It turns out that Izusu and Tohru were talking about the same thing, and Tohru worried if her feelings for Kyo were selfish, because she wanted nothing to take Kyo away from her, not the curse, not the Sohma family, nothing. Kagura then bust into the room, smacked Tohru across the fucking room it seems, and said, "Then fucking tell him that!!" (direct quote, 100%) Izusu yelled at Kagura for hitting Tohru, asking what right she had for doing that, but given Kagura's nature, it doesn't seem completely out of nowhere. She just got pretty emotional in that moment.
For Tohru, it seemed to knock the right screw loose for her, and she thought back to when she was talking about her father to Kyo, and if he said really anything against what she was talking about, she apparently would've just zipped her lips and pretended she hadn't said anything, and moved on, but he didn't. Which is pretty nice of him to do, honestly. Anyway, when she came to again (because she got knocked out from Kagura's emotion-packed slap), Kyo was sitting there, because Kazuma had called him, ("Hey dude so there was a smackdown here and Tohru got knocked out lmao" is how I'm imagining the call. kjdhkfgjh can you imagine Kazuma saying "lmao" I can't) but Kyo didn't ask about the fight (which was a Wise Lesson from Shishou™), another nice thing for him to do, though in my opinion it would be a pretty easy thing to explain.
Ok, so now onto the second chunk, which kinda has some of the stuff in the third chunk later on but whatever. Story flow, it's pristine today.
It starts with some of the,, maids? or something that are in the Sohma house (they never get names so far as I can tell, and I don't really know what to call them, but at one point someone referred to one of them as a maid, I think? Idk.) talking about Ren, and wondering why Akito still let Ren wander around freely like she does. Another said that Akito can only do so much, because apparently there is a crowd of people in the house that are "Ren-followers", and if she had Ren be completely contained within an area, there's a chance that those followers might start some shit, which would be a headache to deal with. One of the maids said that Akito has been sick (or holed up in her room) for too long, and the rest of the Juunishi are doing nothing to help, which does not help with Ren, who spouts out stuff about how the Juunishi doesn't really care about Akito at all. The maids seem to have a particular thing against Ren, because they view her as an unsuitable woman who somehow managed to become partners with Akira, the previous God, I think, but also the father of Akito.
Speaking of Akito, she has a box. That same box that Ren tried to use Izusu to get back. Something about that box has to do with Akira, and it seems important to both Akito and Ren, though honestly at this point Akito is probably just holding onto it out of spite for Ren, I wouldn't be surprised (I, too, am a petty bitch. I understand the mindset). She asked Kureno if he has any idea what is in it, and when he says he doesn't, she simply says, "Father."
Now we jump over to Ren and Shigure, who are also talking about about that elusive box. Apparently Shigure was tasked to get the box, but obviously he didn't succeed. He said (thought? He didn't say it aloud, it was one of those thoughts thing--- anyway) that he didn't really care, he didn't even want to touch that box, much less even look at it, it was no loss to him. Out loud, he says that it would be inappropriate for him to hold it, and Ren agrees, saying that only she can have it, just like how only she could have Akira, when he was alive. Are you already sensing where this is heading? Well, I'll say it anyway.
Flash back to Kureno, he's thinking about Akira, from when he was younger and Akira was still alive. He remembers Akira as very beautiful, in a fleeting way. Akira was sickly, all the time, and sad. Everyone knew that he wouldn't live for very long. But since he was the head of the house, of the family, it was imperative that he find a partner and produce an heir. That person was Ren, who was one of his care-takers. The rest of the staff (or something??) didn't like that she was going to be with Akira, it seemed unsuitable, but she was the only candidate. She was the only person who recognized how lonely he was, is what Akira said as a defense when people objected. And so, they were married. The older members of the family despised it, the younger thought it was the beginning of a new change, a new era. Ren said (because this section is flipping between Kureno and Ren) that it was only them two (haha grammar): Akira and Ren, they were all who mattered. She was everything to Akira. So when she had Akito, well, that muddled things. Because now there was another person that Akira loved: his own fuckin child. That's right. Ren got jealous of her own child because Akira loved his very own daughter. That's,, that's something. Shortly after that, Ren decided that Akito would be raised as a boy. Or maybe it was while she was still pregnant. At any rate, she said it was because it would be unsuitable for the head of the family to be a woman, but we all know the real reason: it's so that Akira wouldn't be loving another girl, even though that other girl was his daughter. Jfc Ren is a handful. From Kureno's memory, it seems like even as a kid, Shigure recognized that.
Back to Shigure and Ren, Shigure says that he feels sorry for Ren, probably thanks to all that upset she has. She says the same, that the Juunishi have had to deal with the abuse that Akito has dealt to them simply because of that "bond", and that there's no way that anyone could honestly love Akito. Shigure also comments that sometimes he thinks that if Akito had been raised as a woman, she'd look exactly like Ren, which instantly pisses Ren off. She just starts screaming about "Who do you have to thank for Akito being born! I'm the reason that (insert angry comment about how she's the only reason why x happened)". I'm kinda glad she isn't in the series much, this is exhausting. I know she's in the book later, and maybe a bit more in the next few, but jeez. It's a lot.
Anyway, let's end the chapter with Momiji having his curse be broken. The end is near (for the Juunishi, not this post lmao).
The second that the curse breaks, Akito knows it (that's probably the bond. I doubt it's some kinda "we'll be friends forever uwu" kinda thing, it's just kinda an awareness of each other, or maybe just God's awareness of everyone) and races towards Momiji, begging him to not leave. Now that the curse is broken, Momiji is confused as to how those thoughts he had prior for Akito were even there, now that he sees Akito clinging onto him, whimpering and panicked. Momiji waves her away, saying that he'll keep it a secret, and that Akito should go rest, wasn't she feeling sick earlier?
We pan over to the school, where Haru is asking Yuki if he's noticed anything off about Momiji. Haru can't place it, but something seems off, maybe not. Kyo ends up running into Momiji walking down a hallway, and asks him about it (he overheard the others talking about it), and Momiji just out and says it: his curse broke. He said he imagines that Tohru would be happier about it if it were Kyo's curse that broke, and that he (Momiji) lost. (I guess he lost in some unspoken one-sided competition of "getting" Tohru, because y'know she's not her own person who is capable of deciding these things for herself or anything)
Later, Momiji goes back to the main Sohma estate, to apologize to Akito for how he acted yesterday, but also to say that he won't be staying there any longer. Akito takes it like a champ, slapping Momiji across the face and insulting him, saying that he's a traitor, he has nowhere else to go, his family either doesn't remember him or hates him, he'll never be happy! and Momiji's just like, "Yeah lol I already feel lonely", that he can't be with the person he loves, and he no longer has that One Thing that previously connected him to most of the other people he's close with, and that there's no going back. He does say though, that it's not Akito's decision or place to say whether Momiji will ever be happy or not, because he might not be happy now, that does not mean that he won't ever be happy in the future. He then asks Akito how long she will stay at the house, thinking that eventually, everyone will come back to her, that no one will be happy without her. What if it's actually her that is most afraid-- Akito isn't down for an analysis, she just tells Momiji to leave.
Let's now go down memory lane, down a nice and happy time, especially for Akito and Ren: Akira's death and it's after effects. Happy times. (apparently i was wrong, the thing i said was the third chunk that wove in nicely with the second was just the second chunk, i think this is the actual third chunk)
Akito is thinking back (on a rainy morning, extra points for setting the mood) on her relationship with her parents. With Akira, it was nice, he always was kind and caring, telling Akito that she is what everyone has been waiting for, and that she thought she was the one Akira loved the most. With Ren, however, she was always cruel, from the start. She always glared at Akito, she was always mean. Akito hates her. We're brought back to the day Akira died, where Ren bursts into the room, asking why she wasn't notified sooner, why Akira had to die alone. One of the attendants said his condition worsened too quickly to call Ren close by, but also that Akira hadn't died alone; he died with Akito by his side. The attendant said that Akira's will had been passed onto Akito, she was now the head of the family. Ren was angered at that, there's no reason for Akito to still be around now! She only tolerated her child being around because Akira liked her, but now that Akira is gone, there is no one to love or care about Akito. Akito said that wasn't true, that all of the Juunishi will love her, because of their bond. (Which is basically what Akira said. He put most of that stuff into her head, and she doubled down on it whenever Ren said anything against it, which might as well be every single time they were around each other)
Back to the present, Kureno comes in the room to talk about something, but Akito interrupts him, saying that she was happy when Yuki was born, as the Rat. It was mostly just something she used to prove Ren wrong, and she used it as long as she could (much to the deterioration of Yuki's mental health). She thought back, over the years, to all the bad things that had happened, how she tried so hard to keep everyone close, and how all of them had, one by one, come to "betray" (cough cough, try to live their own lives, cough cough) her. After Shigure and Yuki left to their present residence, Ren said that they had given up on Akito. When Akito again mentioned their bond (which, really, now that I think about it, has basically been the singular thing straining to keep everything under control. Akito's sole sense of identity was being God, she's never had anything else.), Ren waved it away, then challenged that if any of the Juunishi can go out into the world, experience it in all it's freaky magical ways, and not be taken in by it, and instead return to Akito, then she will have been proved wrong, Akito's claims this whole time will have been correct. If they failed to, however, Ren said that Akito would have to give up the Sohma name. But Akito believed it, she truly believed she was right, that nothing big enough would come between her and the rest of the Juunishi (Tohru has entered the chat). She had to believe it, she just had to. But now, it's evident, between how Haru reacted upon learning about Izusu, Momiji's demeanor after the curse broke, the general way that the rest of the Juunishi float away from Akito, that it isn't true, and with that, she has nothing to hope for.
Upon this realization, Ren bursts into the room, knee-length hair floating around her, eyes crazed, knife in hand, demanding for Akira. Demanding for that box, and whatever contents were inside. In response, Akito fuggin yeeted it at Ren, she didn't give a shit. It flashed back to right before Akira died, and he soothed Akito by saying that, despite dying, he will always be with her. He wanted for Ren to be happy. He wasn't upset that he was dying so soon, he knew that he was just a man who was going to die, but he was happy that he was able to have a child, and to have had that child with Ren, and since that child was special, it was proof that their relationship was a special one. Back to the present, Ren scrambles to the box, tears it open hungrily to find,,, nothing. The box was empty. It'd always been empty, said to have held Akira's soul, but it was mostly just something to help Akito with Akira's passing. Suddenly, Akito grabbed the knife that fell from Ren's hand, poised to stab Ren but then--
Hiro's curse broke. Ren can thank that bond she always scoffed at for saving her life. But hey, now Hiro can hold his baby sister, which is nice. Yay for family moments.
Boo for Akito, because it's just really grinding in that the curse is quickly falling apart, and there's absolutely nothing that she can do about it. Ren taunts Akito, asking if she was trying to kill her. The attendants blow up, one yelling at Ren for making such a scene, taking a knife with her, and another scolds the first for giving Akito that box in the first place, it's stupid! The first attendant said that Akito knew from the start that it was empty, common sense would say that much! (idk man it could've held one last letter from Akira to Akito, a letter wouldn't affect the weight of the box significantly, it's not common sense)
Akito leaves the room, and Kureno follows. Akito says that it was both common sense but also not, that there wasn't anything in the box. She wanted to believe there was a chance that something was in that box, some kind of invisible energy that would help her. But even after opening it, seeing that it was empty, she still held onto it, knowing there wasn't anything. And that was her common sense, that's what she thought. She'd never been given any other way of thinking, of living, so why and how should anyone expect differently? Kureno says that she can start learning now, that that was what he wanted to talk about earlier, that she can't stay here, she'll never be able to move on, to which Akito cuts him off with "Fuggin now, bitch?? You're saying that now?? That doesn't help me! It would have helped in the beginning! But not fucking now!" (which btw is true. i doubt akito was even allowed to go to a public school, that she was schooled within the estate. i really believe that she's never really been outside of the the properties that the Sohma family owns) Then she stabs Kureno, with that knife she's been holding all this time. She reasons with it saying that Kureno's "halfway kindness" has been killing her this whole time, that it can't be fixed by Kureno saying that maybe Akito should go touch some grass. As Akito is running from the scene (more like haggardly stumbling), she continues thinking that it's Kureno's fault, it's not on her, until she remembers what Yuki was saying at the New Year's gathering about blame. It doesn't really fix anything, it just momentarily makes you think that you're not in the wrong. *record scratch* What if it's Akito's fault, then? All of this? What if it's her fault? What if it's the fault of the person who made everyone change? What if it's Tohru's fault?? (dun dun dunnnn)
Meanwhile, back at the other Sohma house (Shigure's house?) Tohru has some confessing to do. Before that though, Kyo has some confessing to do, though not about the same thing. He tells Tohru that he knew her mom before she died, and that he was the reason she died. He tells her that they met when he was really young, and how they had kinda become friends (in that way that people become friends by talking often, but Kyo never told Kyoko his name, because he had some weird thing about having a name so similar). That all fell apart the day that Tohru went missing. He promised that he would find her and rescue her, but after finding that Yuki had done it (the evidence was The Hat), he lashed out, and never talked to Kyoko again. Years later, when he was at the crosswalk, who was beside him but Kyoko, who he recognized instantly. He wasn't sure what to do, whether to say something to her or hold back. He was totally able to grab her arm, get her out of harm's way, but he didn't, he was too scared. (plus yaknow the whole cat thing) He beats himself up about, still to this day. He does the same with his own mom's death. It was his fault that his mom killed herself, she couldn't stand having such a monster as a child. It was too much for her, and she couldn't take any longer. (It wasn't. I won't say that his mom wasn't put under strain for having Kyo, for knowing that he wasn't human, that he turned into a weird monster if his bracelet was taken off, but from what we've seen of his dad, it was probably at least 85-90% his dad's fault. He was too caught up in the politics of the Sohma family, ashamed of the fact that Kyo was the Cat, the worst out of them, that he couldn't even salvage having one of the good freaks to have as a child of his, and he took it all out on his wife and later his son.)
And the book ends on that cheery note. (Why do I say stuff like that why I am I like this)
#so... lot's of heavy stuff in this book#yay for that maybe#there are three books left and the last one is mostly just wrapping together everything else#that wasn't covered in the previous book#so hopefully i can have these done soon#i read through all of them a few days back and i really liked it#i hoped that by reading it through and then going back to write about them would make it easier#it kinda has bc i remember kinda what happens so that's nice#anyway#tohru honda#kyo sohma#kagura sohma#izusu sohma#kazuma sohma#akito sohma#akira sohma#ren sohma#shigure sohma#kureno sohma#momiji sohma#hiro sohma#fruits basket#furuba#fruits basket vol 20#fruits basket volume 20
“Nothing More” Ben Solo x f!Reader
(A/N: Requested by @mykyloren-addiction. Thank you for the request!
So….including fluff was not specified and I went all out Star Wars brain. Also I tweaked it a little. More avoidance. Ben Solo is back and wants to reconcile with an old friend, Reader, but is Reader willing to even look at him?
Warnings: Angst.
Word Count: 2,870 words)
The roaring podracing engine rumbled loudly next door between the joined chatter of travelers. Sitting outside of Docking Bay 7 was never too quiet. Yet it was a doable tradeoff from your racing and invasive thoughts. You needed a few moments to rest your feet and not actively having to check over your shoulder for a patrolling stormtrooper. An old structure wall of sorts shielded your back and one side. Strong meaty scents came upon a breeze from the neighboring Ronto Roasters. It was a place to get away without completely leaving.
Black Spire Outpost had a little bit and a lot of everything. Busy storefronts, unique travelers, varying landscapes, and all sorts of possibilities. That was one reason the Resistance made camp on Batuu. Another reason was to rebuild the Resistance while the First Order was extremely close by. It was unnerving, however not the most surprising.
A little over a week ago, you had returned to camp one day to the buzzing of information revolving around Ben Solo and Rey. It was shocking when you stayed to hear more. Ben found Rey and through learning he left the Dark Side as well as The First Order, she let him join the Resistance. General Leia was reportedly happy, however not planetside. It was a load to grasp onto mentally. No sooner had you heard the news, you avoided the camp and in turn Ben as much as physically possible. Helping batuuans and helping to spread the Resistance’s purpose took up most of your day.
As it should, you thought.
Even as you ventured through the Outpost, Rey had lead the former Kylo Ren into the Resistance encampment. Tensions had been high for at least the first forty-eight hours. Having a former leader of The First Order so close did that.
Yet keeping busy and out of sight didn’t seem to do much good with Force sensitives around. You were surprised when Rey had approached you and asked if you’d speak with Ben. She had learned that yourself and Ben had known one another prior to him donning a new name. Something you weren’t too keen on thinking about.
Yet, here we go.
You let out a long heavy sigh. It had been a long while since you had really thought about your life prior to joining the fight to save the galaxy. You were not the first to do so, but you truly hoped you would be among the last.
You had family in the New Republic’s political system. Some of which were currently on the First Order’s radar. You and Ben had met in a senate building. Family busy with their job and duties. You remembered a time when you would jump at the opportunity to join whichever family member had a senatorial meeting. Back then, you had an entertaining friendship with the young Ben Solo. The two of you would share both bizarre and mundane stories from across the galaxy. Between visits, meetings, and comm conversations, the friendship had grown into something more. There were feelings that were blatant mutual, however never spoken.
Your feelings had changed. Time and experience made you stronger and more aware.
Things change. People change. Some more than others.
Back then, after hearing what happened to Ben—him actually contacting you and asking you to support The First Order—quickly lead into a heated conversation before you just shut off the call on him and threw yourself into fully supporting the Resistance by joining. There was such a heavy rock-feeling in your heart then. One you used to and turned into a fire to help the Resistance.
I don’t want to see his face, you thought. Sitting back on the bench, you stretched out your legs. Didn’t think I’d be disappointed or annoyed with seeing Rey though. Sometimes she’s too kind for her own good. But no. No. She’s not getting me to speak with…him. No. How many times do I have to tell her ‘no’? He can be here all he likes. I’m busy. The Resistance is busy. I don’t need to see him.
The usual stress of being a Resistance member had tripled on top of growing frustration. That was no way to live. You needed air. You needed space. And you needed to venture to other communities on Batuu. A perfect escape.
An escape?
Grumbling lowly, your eyes scanned over the populace. No sign of of Resistance members. Two stormtroopers on patrol, citizens walking between other citizens, and possibly a handful of scoundrels. A typical day.
. . .
Double checking you hadn’t forgotten your credits, you peeked out of your tent. Looking left, right, and back again—the area was free of Ben. As far as you were concerned, you didn’t need to speak to him. You didn’t really want to anyway.
Things to do, food to eat, people to help. Can’t spend my whole day like this. Again. No one’s up this early anyway.
. . .
“I don’t know about this.” Finn murmured to Poe as the two waited for Rey outside.
“I just want to see if (Y/N) uses a blaster on him.” Poe said as he crossed his arms and rose his eyebrows to his friend. “I really wouldn’t be surprised. But I’m hoping.”
“Hey. Rey really wants them to talk it out.”
“If she pushes (Y/N) any farther, there’s going to be a shoot out. Very little talking.”
“Don’t say that.”
“Why not? Let him try something.”
“He wouldn’t dare.” Finn crossed his arms as well.
The two Force sensitives came into view from behind a line of foliage and storage crates. One tall and confident, the other tall and guilty.
“Guess we’ll find out.” Poe leaned his weight to the side.
“Have you kept an eye on her?” Rey asked as she reached the pair.
“She left her tent about ten minutes ago.” Finn said calmly. The calm tone only a thin layer over his wariness. “She headed towards the ships about a minute ago.”
“Good. She couldn’t have gotten too far.” She smiled and turned to Ben. “You two will be able to talk this time. I know you will.”
Ben Solo simply nodded, but a small hint of a smile graced his features. Rey’s smiles were sometimes hard to not share. He hoped she was right.
“Yeah, no. Why don’t we—you two—leave (Y/N) alone. She doesn’t want to see him.” Poe gestured to Ben. “Don’t encourage this. Whatever the hell it is.”
“They were friends.” Rey said, standing firmly.
“Exactly. ‘Were friends’.”
“Why don’t we let (Y/N) decide.”
“Fine.”
Finn sighed quietly to himself. He had no idea how any of this was going to turn out. Holding out hope that everyone he cared about would keep their heads, he walked with the group towards the ships.
It didn’t take long for them to hear the familiar sound of a ship’s engine. The sound only fueled the group to rush over to an A-Wing still grounded. The pilot? You, of course.
Ben swallowed thickly as he made eye contact with you. The recognization in your face only resulted in a heavy curse word easily read on your lips. He could sense your distaste from where he stood. It only added to his vulnerability. He had not expected to be opening up to his past in this way. It frightened him. Would you still have any hidden feelings for him?
. . .
If you did not care or work on your ship, you would had hit a panel with your fist. Reluctantly, you left the sanctuary of your A-Wing and trudged your way across the sand to the group staring at you. There was no way you were going to risk Rey keeping your ship down using the Force when it would hopefully be easier to just get one conversation over with.
I hate this already.
You stopped about two paces from the group. There was no need to guess what they wanted. It was only a matter of time before they tried a different tactic to get you to talk with Ben.
“Hi.” You said flatly, arms crossed under your chest.
Poe and Finn stood off to the side, both pairs of eyes checking on Ben every few seconds.
“You were leaving?” Rey asked, eyebrows raised slightly. She stood next to Ben who still wore dark tones and a guarded expression.
“Yes.”
“Can you stay long enough to talk?”
“I have some time.”
Everyone stood rooted in their spot. The breeze coming through the trees gave noise to the break in conversation.
Here we go, I guess. Remain calm. There is nothing to get entirely aggravated about. Just breathe and listen.
Rey turned to Ben for a moment before saying, “Ben would like to talk with you.”
You nodded.
“It’s…uh…,” Ben began speaking to you. “It’s been a while. You look well.”
Your eyebrows rose on their own accord.
Wow.
Again, you nodded. “Hi.”
“Hi.”
From his side, Rey gave him an encouraging head gesture. Ben’s hands hung loosely at his sides.
“Look, I know that I’ve done terrible things, but I left all of it. I’m not a part of it any more. I want to help.” He said, his tone somewhere between calm and persuasive.
“So you joined the Resistance.” You added to whatever narrative he was saying.
“I did…and I didn’t know you had joined. If I’d had known that I…maybe things would be different.”
“I joined right after we last talked.” You pursed your lips and soon the words started tumbling out. “I’d think that me telling you that I wouldn’t join the First Order would had told you something.” Keeping your voice calm was all you needed to focus on.
Don’t let him get to you.
Ben’s frame deflated, shoulders falling.
“There’s a lot that’s changed over the years. No doubting that. Is there something….else that you wanted to talk about?” You asked. Being taken through memory lane with Ben Solo was not what you had in mind. Especially when those memories brought up were the last ones you had when he decided to join the First Order and he left his Jedi training up in flames.
“I want to be your friend again.”
“What?” The word slipped out from you before you could stop yourself.
“I miss you,” Ben’s voice lowered, almost hushed as the words seemed to tug their way out of him. “I want to be your friend again. I miss spending time with you.”
The kriff?
“I’m sorry for all of the terrible things that I’ve done. I can’t change the past. But I can do what I can now.”
You shook your head.
Dark eyebrows knitted together. It looked as if he had taken a hit to the gut.
“I—wow… Look, I can not promise that I’ll be your friend again. I’m just being realistic here. A true friend would not have done…would not have asked me what you did years ago. I don’t…,” you sighed and uncrossed your arms. “I don’t trust you.”
Ben’s mouth hung open as he stared at you. A strong amount of hurt and confusion colored on his fair face.
Keeping your ground was what you intended to do from the start and you would. There had been too many nights, too many days where his choices effected more than simply him. Forgiveness did not always have to be given. It had taken you so long to forgive yourself for things you never did, for feelings your had for him, and things you had considered doing. What Ben did, you were not obligated to forgive him in any amount.
“(Y/N).” Ben said quietly.
“No.”
No. Can’t do it. I’ve already been through this.
You looked away from him and to the other two men. Poe and Finn. Two people you did trust, especially at that moment. Neither one said a word in favor of either you nor Ben. In fact, Finn looked to be observing from a more calm stand point whereas Poe had his arms firmly crossed across his chest. If there was someone who truly did not like the conversation happening, other than you, it was Poe.
Are we finished now?
Boots shifted the sand as Ben took a more wide stance.
“I’m here now. I’m trying to help.” Ben urged. “If you’d just forgive me, we can start over. I didn’t do anything to you. I’ve said things and asked you to join the First Order when I had, but I never went after you. I would never do that.”
You squared your shoulders. There was only so much a person could take.
Calm. Calm, you thought as you breathed through your nose.
“You made a choice, Ben. You ran off to Snoke instead of your parents. To your mother who would protect you from anyone and anything. You chose The First Order instead of your own family. What the hell for? You are not and were not limited in your choices. You’ve done unspeakable things in The First Order. You hurt Poe, Finn, and Rey.” Your breath came out as hot air through your nose. “Did you really just ask me to forgive you?”
Ben’s throated bopped, “Yes.”
The kriffing hell. He just—
“I cannot pretend that you weren’t Kylo Ren. Words aren’t enough.”
“Ben is with us now.” Rey interjected. “He left The First Order.”
You returned your gaze to Ben’s dark brown eyes. “Did you do anything to help dismantle them? Sabotage their plans besides leaving?”
“(Y/N),” Rey said. “You’re asking too much of him. Give him a chance.”
“I did. Years ago before I dropped the call. The call where he asked me to join the kriffing First Order. No.”
Poe and Finn shifted uncomfortably.
“If what you all want is for me to give him a chance in the Resistance, fine. That’s technically not my call. It’s a group effort. But,” You looked Ben hard in the eyes. “If you’re asking more from me…don’t expect anything.”
His dark eyebrows curved up, a look of hurt returning twice over.
“Wait…,” Poe started to lean closer. “What more could he want?”
Your silent answer and unmasked facial expression gave cause to Poe’s reaction.
“Oh, come on…You can’t be serious.” The pilot groaned.
Ben sent a narrowed gaze to the other man.
“We’re not talking about what never happened.” You added more calmly.
“All in favor of ending this conversation?” Poe asked as he could no longer make eye contact with anyone around him. “Because it needs to.”
“(Y/N),” Ben took a step closer. “I’ll do all that I can to help stop the First Order.”
“That’s what we’re all here doing,” Poe added dryly.
“Finn. Poe.” Rey said in a direct and calm manner. “Let’s give them a moment.”
Both men looked over with incredulous looks.
“Come on,” she gestured with her head as she turned and started walking away.
Finn made eye contact with you and said, “Let us know if you need anything.”
You nodded.
Poe Dameron on the other hand cleared his throat and unmistakably patted the weapon in his holster. Thankfully his messages were never subtle.
The moment that the others were out of earshot, you turned your attention to Ben once more.
“Anything else you’d like to say?”
“Are any of my ‘sorry’s enough?”
“There needs to be action to match. Help us. Show that you changed.”
“My feelings haven’t changed.”
A heavy exhale left you.
“You don’t feel the same?” He asked.
“No. Not for a long time.”
It was easy to recognize the genuine hurt in Ben’s eyes. Yes, you felt empathy, however you no longer held romantic feelings for Ben Solo. There was nothing for you to do.
“I have to get back to work.” You said, giving a general gesture behind you. “We have a Resistance to rebuild.”
“I understand.”
“Best of luck, Ben.”
“…Thanks.”
Giving an awkward wave, you pivoted on the spot and headed back to your A-Wing. A weight was lifted from your shoulders and the need to check your surroundings in a safe area had drastically dwindled down. At least your mind would be in a better place while you went out to other communities.
There was limited choice in how you would be interacting near the newest Resistance member. You would learn to work alongside Ben because saving the galaxy from the overpowering use of the Dark Side did not stop for ruined relationships. One day he might even become a nice partner to have when having to go out in your ship. Ben was a great pilot. Yet, only time would tell. Only the Force knew about what was to come.
You would not stray to far from camp, however you would keep a firm eye on Ben to protect the ones you cared about. You did not have to forgive him and you did not think you ever would at that point. The First Order was still a threat and they were scrapping many corners of Batuu to find their base.
It was time to go to work.
Best wishes and happy reading.)
