A/N; I’ve always wanted to do this with someone so of course I wrote it with Kylo :D this trope (?) is a classic and always one of my favs!! Also a little glimpse of the modern AU I have cookin
Part of Written in the Stars
Summary; It’s the middle of the night and you can’t sleep, so naturally you make a trip to the kitchen. Your husband decides to follow you.
Content; Modern AU, pure fluff, cooking + dancing in the kitchen at 3 am, married to Kylo, sleepy and soft and lovey Kylo (the best version), also very clingy Kylo, you can’t cook for shit (I’m projecting), so Kylo’s like your personal chef, sharing a meal, how many times can I say cook in this intro, you have a pet cat :), cuddling
Wc; 1.2k
☆.。.:*・°☆.。.:*・°☆.。.:*・°☆.。.:*・°☆ .。.:*
The clock reads 3:27 AM.
Far too late for you to be awake, but sleep has escaped you once again and you’re not a fan of laying in bed just tossing and turning all night. So you slipped out of your lover’s arms—which is a feat in itself considering the iron grip he has—and went down to the kitchen. What else are you supposed to do at 3 AM? You don’t want to work on answering emails or anything like that, that’s for sure, and besides, you didn’t have much to eat the day prior anyway because you were too busy. Might as well.
You keep your steps light through the house that’s filled with silence, moving so quietly it’s like you were never there. Each room is bathed in the darkness of night, save for the massive window-wall in the living room that bleeds into the kitchen. Moonlight filters through, giving things a pale glow. BB is one of those things, the cat having followed you downstairs. His black and silvery fur reflects the moon, making him seem like a little star if he stands in the light rays at just the right angle.
You stand in the wide kitchen, hands on your hips, wondering what to do. BB gives a curious meow, winding around your legs. “Shh- I’m thinking.” You mutter. Cereal? No. Muffin? Also no. Oatmeal? Definitely not. You have just about everything you could want in here and yet your mind is annoyingly blank.
You perk up at the sound of footsteps and then there’s strong arms around you, one crossed against your chest, a warm hand coming up to lightly grip your jaw and leave kisses peppered along your neck. You lean into the gentle touches like a cat. You’re not surprised he showed up, he always does. Whenever you’re awake in the middle of the night, he’s awake minutes later. It’s endearing, having someone miss you so deeply even in their dreams.
“Sweetheart,” Kylo mumbles against your skin, clearly still half asleep, “you have a conference in the morning.”
You huff and resist the urge to roll your eyes. Even without most of his wits about him, he still pesters you about work. You have a secretary who does that enough—with him around it’s like you don’t even need one. Sure he’s kept you from missing more than a few sponsorship meetings, but that’s besides the point. Your head falls back onto his shoulder. “Couldn’t sleep. Also I was hungry.”
He hums, taking the opportunity to kiss your cheek. “Then I’ll make you something.”
You tense, turning yourself around and pushing him away as a result, much to his dismay. “What? No, no, you go back to bed. You had a long day.” You say, trying to be stern. Your hand cups his cheek, thumb rubbing along the freckled skin. You see the darkness beneath his eyes; his job hasn’t been kind recently. You consider returning to bed just for his benefit so that he’ll sleep, even if it’ll leave you lying awake staring at the ceiling for hours.
He doesn’t give you a chance to do such a thing, pulling you close again and resting his head in the crook of your neck. You feel his sigh blow across your skin; it makes a shiver run down your spine. “I don’t want you to burn down our kitchen.”
You scoff, incredulous. “I think I can handle it. You have no faith in your wife.”
“Last time I did, the house smelled like burnt chicken for the whole day.” He says pointedly. You pout, and he straightens to peck your lips, begrudgingly making you smile. “I’m already up, let me do this.”
Kylo leaves it unmentioned, but you both know he won’t be able to go back to sleep unless you do either. You find how clingy he is at night to be pretty cute; he’s like a puppy that can’t stand being away from you for more than two seconds. You sigh. “Fine.”
“Good.” He says, heading towards the fridge. “What do you want then?”
You have no response because you were working on trying to figure that out before he came in, and you were ultimately unsuccessful. But it seems that’s not a problem for him—probably because he could cook whatever he thinks of and you… can’t. “Eggs on toast?” He asks, already pulling out the egg carton.
Your eyes light up, hands clasping together enthusiastically. “Oooh yeah that sounds good.”
He smirks knowingly, tossing you the loaf of bread and flicking on the overhead stove light. “I can trust you to toast bread, right?”
You glare at him in mock anger. “I don’t know, can you?”
He huffs a laugh and leaves you to your own devices, that being the toaster. You pop two slices of the thicker bread between the slots while he works on the eggs, buttered pan situated on the stovetop. You turn on the speaker that sits on the counter, gentle music flitting through the kitchen. You scoop up BB and hold him like a baby in your arms, his legs flailing as he accepts his fate. You hum along to the tune, dancing around on the linoleum floors, socks making it easy to slide. Kylo hooks an arm around your waist when you go by, bringing you in to kiss the top of your head. You smile, warmth buzzing in your chest.
BB gets spooked when the toaster finally goes off, scrabbling out of your hold and hurrying from the kitchen. You take the toast and put the pieces on plates, with Kylo’s being a bit more toasted than yours, just how he likes it. The eggs are finished around the same time, their smell filling the air and making your stomach growl. Kylo carefully slides them from the pan onto the toast, lightly peppered and cooked perfectly, of course.
You two take the late night snacks into the living room, sitting comfortably against each other on the couch, his warmth bleeding into yours. This was exactly what you needed; warm, tasty food, and simply enjoying the presence of your partner.
“Thank you,” you mumble around a mouthful, head bumping against his shoulder.
“Mm.”
You finish your egg on toast rather quickly, where he takes a bit longer, as usual. You feel your body droop while you wait for him, eyes burning with a sudden tiredness, like sleep has been waiting for the right moment to creep in and get you. It’d be very easy to just fall asleep on the couch…
Kylo doesn’t let you though, instead scooping you up into his arms with annoying ease after setting the plates on the table. You can get them in the morning. “Back to bed for you.” He says as your arms come up around his neck. You can’t find it in yourself to argue. You’re carried upstairs and to your shared bedroom, BB eagerly following behind. He jumps on the bed first, meowing in a way that tells you to hurry up.
Kylo sets you down gently, a whine coming from your throat when he separates from you, even though it’s only for a second. Then he’s next to you under the covers, pulling you into his chest and securing his arms around you once again. You drape one of your own arms over his middle, lightly dancing your fingers over his ribs, humming happily. He sighs in content, murmuring something loving that you can’t quite hear against your hair. BB is curled against your back, purrs rumbling.
With everything feeling right in the world, sleep is quick to claim you both.

Christmas Party Panic
Pairing: Kylo Ren x Reader (No use of y/n)
Ficmas Masterlist Star wars masterlist
Word Count: 7.7k
Summary: Your coworker put you in an uncomfortable situation, so your boss Kylo helps you out. Simple as that.
Or maybe not…
A/n: a small treat to hold you over until I finish the next chapter of While We Dream. ~Starry
~~~~~~~~
The soft hum of Christmas music echoes through the mostly empty office, most people having already gone home for the day. You can’t help but envy them. Aside from you and Rey, there’s only the janitor and… your boss. Kylo Ren. You don’t think you’ve ever seen him leave early—or at all, really. You admired his work ethic, but you also worried for him, although you couldn’t really talk.
You’ve just finished hanging up the last green and red streamers over the break room door when your friend and coworker Rey approaches you. She’s the whole reason you got roped into helping decorate for the Christmas work party, and you’re a little scared of the excited gleam in her eyes as she draws near.
The sound of your name jolts your attention to Rey, and you realize you missed what she said. She huffs but doesn’t seem entirely upset and repeats herself.
“I said, I’m a little disappointed you didn’t tell me you’re bringing someone to the party” Her words take a few moments to register in your head, and you’re about to tell her that you’re definitely not bringing someone, but a reminder of a conversation with your coworker earlier drags a groan from you.
You’d just been taking your lunch break when your male coworker Alvin approached you. It wasn’t uncommon that you’d chat with people during lunch, but you felt uneasy about the look in his eyes when he settled into the seat next to you. He tried making idle chat with you while you scarfed down your sandwich, but eventually he got to the point of his visit.
“So… I haven't heard that you’re bringing anyone to the Christmas party." Your eyes widened at his statement, realizing his intentions in singling you out during lunch. It’s not like this was his first time asking you out, but he never seemed to get the hint. “I’d like to be the one who takes you. Wouldn't want you coming all alone." He laughs so condescendingly you flinch, searching for any way to get out of the awkwardness of 3 hours glued to this prick's hip.
“I uh, actually already have a date.” You lie. It’s the only thing you can think to do in the moment, and it seems to work as he mumbles out some excuse and storms away. You didn’t think he'd go around telling the whole office, especially because you just planned on bringing your sister if she was free. But now here you were with an angry best friend and rumors that you were bringing a date. No doubt all of your coworkers' eyes were going to be on you at that party.
“That’s because…” You start to answer Rey, but movement in the corner of your eyes distracts you, and you turn your head to see Kylo standing from his desk. His tall frame never ceases to surprise you no matter how many times you’ve passed him by and you watch as he slides on his long black coat and grabs his bag.
It was incredibly unfair how good he could make a simple black coat look with his broad shoulders and unique features; it was no surprise he was the object of many of your coworkers affection. He’d set nearly the entire female staff alight when he’d taken over for your old boss just under a year ago, although his quiet and clipped nature seemed to deter most of them…not all of them, though…
Most importantly, you were shocked that he was packing up already. He’s never left early before, but…maybe he was going to meet up with a woman. You heard Christmas hookups were popular these days. Though he didn’t really seem like the type.
Your eyes track him as he shuts his office door, a foggy glass just like the rest of his walls (thank god for blinds), and makes his way towards the two of you. Your eyes catch his, and you smile, sucking in a sharp, involuntary breath as he comes to stand in front of you. His scent invading your senses
“Leaving early today?” The question slips from your tongue. You know he’s not one for much small talk, but he’s not rude enough to ignore you either. He shakes his head, and your eyes are drawn to the long black curls that frame his face, never before noticing how soft they looked. He runs a hand through them, and his eyes dart to the elevator. You hope you aren’t keeping him from something important by making idle chat.
“Stepping out for some coffee” Comes his reply, in a deep baritone voice; it’s a little rough, you’d guess from not speaking much all day- or maybe that’s how it always sounds…
“Ah.” You wrack your brain for a more intelligent reply but come up short. Would it be stupid to tell him to enjoy it? To joke about bringing you some? To make him promise to stay warm in the harsh winter weather outside. You shiver just thinking about it.
Consumed by your thoughts, you fail to notice as Kylo’s eyes drift around the office, taking in the decorations you’ve spent a good couple of hours crafting and hanging. You’re only pulled back to reality when his voice reaches your ears once more.
“It looks good in here.” You try not to preen at the praise. You would hope it looked good; Rey had managed to convince him to put them up a few days early, and she’d forced you into it as her only accomplice. Most of your coworkers had been surprised that he’d said yes to it since most of them assumed he was a Scrooge, but you knew better. He might be quiet and socially inept, but you noticed the coffee he’d buy for everyone during meetings and the extra PTO he gave to your pregnant coworker last month; he was an office worker's dream boss in every way except socializing.
But there had been something bothering you as of late. At the risk of overworking yourself, you’d been staying late to work on a few projects a couple of times a week. It wasn’t anything you couldn’t handle, but it wasn’t like you were enjoying yourself. Sometimes you were there so late that the lights would shut off, and you’d be forced to blink extra hard against the bright blue light of your computer.
But a couple of months ago something peculiar started happening. You would get up to go to the bathroom, and when you came back, there’d be a cup of hot chocolate on your desk, or a light snack, or you'd find your papers neatly organized. And on one very specific occasion, when you dozed off late one night, you awoke half an hour later to a blanket draped over your shoulders.
Each and every time the main suspect to these gifts remained exactly where he’d been, stuffed in his glass box of an office, having looked none the wiser. But there was no other explanation if it wasn’t him, unless the janitor was sweet on you.
You look up at the 60-year-old married man sweeping up practically nothing from the gray carpet flooring. In the few conversations you’ve had with him, he’s used every opportunity to talk about his wife and grandchild that’s on the way. So if it wasn't him that only left… You look back up at the man staring down at you. His face giving nothing away
“Thank you.” It feels like you’re saying it for more than just his compliment, but whether he understands or not, you’re unsure. He just gives you a curt nod and glances down at his watch.
“Will you be here much longer?”
“Oh no, we’re almost done. We’ll probably be gone by the time you’re back. You hallucinate the look of disappointment on his face- at least that’s what you convince yourself, because there was no way your boss would look at you like that. Maybe he was just hoping you’d stay late and do more work.
“Then have a good night.” You nod, and he walks off. When he’s sufficiently out of earshot, Rey slaps you on your arm, and you flinch, turning to see her appalled expression.
“Oh my GOD, what was that?” You’re more than a little confused at her dramatic reaction to such a simple conversation.
“What was what?”
“Um, what was that between you and Kylo? How is this the first time I'm seeing this?” You make your way back over to your desk, packing up your bag and turning off your computer. You were done with the decorations for tonight.
“See what, Rey? I’m not comprehending…” She gives you a flat look; either she doesn’t believe you, or she doesn't believe how ignorant you are.
“You’re not being serious. You know, I don’t think I’ve ever heard that man have a conversation that long that wasn't about work." You shrug; that’s how most of your conversations went with him, and you’d hardly consider it your longest.
“We talk sometimes.”
She’s silent, and you turn from your desk to find her watching you with an expression you can't decipher. “ Is he who you’re bringing to the Christmas party?” You can’t help the jolt your body does.
“W-what? What gave you that impression?” You’re sure you’re blushing and she can definitely tell. She was wrong, but that didn’t stop her words from planting a seed in your head. Going out with Kylo…
“Oh I don’t know, maybe it was the palpable tension between you two, or the way he looked disappointed you were leaving, or the blush you sport every time I bring him up.” Her thoughts stir something dangerous in you- a hope you really shouldn’t encourage, but— “What aren't you telling me?”
You hesitate, wondering if you should tell her about the things you’ve experienced working late or not, but when she fixes you with an expectant gaze, you give in and begin telling her as you step into the elevator together.
~~
“You’re kidding!” You shyly shake your head as Rey grabs your shoulders and maintains an intimidating amount of eye contact. “You’re telling me this man has been secretly showering you with gifts and affection for months, and you haven’t jumped his bones?”
You shove her away from you with a laugh, hiding your blush by chastising her for her inappropriate words, but she just smirks at you.
“I’m just saying, he 100% has a crush on you. And judging by your reaction, I think you have one on him too." You don't bother to deny it, and she cackles. You already thought he was handsome from the moment you met, but now, after experiencing this soft, caring side to him, you can’t help but get flustered every time you think of him. About what it would be like if-
Shaking your head, you let a rueful smile cross your face. “He’s my boss. I can’t”
Rey’s silent for a short while, digesting your words, and you take the time to pointedly avoid thinking about what a relationship with Kylo would feel like.
“You know… you got promoted last year before he even became your boss.” You turn to her, wondering where she's going with this: “I think as long as you don’t suddenly get promoted after you start dating him, no one would care. We’ve worked with you a long time. We all know how hardworking you are.” You swallow the lump in your throat; somehow she always knows what to say to ease your anxiety.
“So you think…” The elevator arrives on the ground floor at the same time your brain arrives at the idea of you and Kylo. Rey grabs your arm and forces you to look at her as the doors slide open, a genuine look in her eyes.
“I think you should ask him out.”
A choking cough draws your attention to outside the elevator doors… where Kylo stands, coffee in hand and a surprised look in his eyes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
That evening replays in your head endlessly for the next couple of days.
Rey was the first one to jump into action when Kylo choked on his coffee, asking if he was alright and patting his back, but even while coughing, his eyes never left yours.
You felt frozen on the spot; you didn’t know how much he’d heard, but judging from the way he was looking at you, he’d probably heard too much. The shocked- almost worried—look in his eyes has been haunting you.
You muttered out a quick apology and practically dragged Rey to the doors, ignoring the soft brush of fingers trying to grasp your wrist.
When you made it outside, you could already feel the lump in your throat, but it was too cold to cry right now. It wasn’t like it was an outright rejection, but… there was a chance he had that look because he was worried you’d ruin your strictly professional relationship by asking him out. Maybe he did those kind things for you because he wanted to be your friend or prove he was a good boss.
So you’ve been avoiding him all week, leaving at the same time as everyone else and taking your lunches outside of work. On top of that, you still have no solution to your problem. You’ve been trying to avoid questions about who you’re bringing, but it’s hard when Alvin seems dead set on asking you every day, and even worse, your sister said she couldn't make it. Now you really had no idea what to do.
Today you got to work early, earlier than even Kylo does, in hopes of avoiding both him and Alvin; unfortunately, the latter must have predicted that you’d be here because the second you step out of the elevator, he’s there. Alvin, in all his coffee-stained, off-white button-up and slacks glory.
He bombards you with questions the second you step out of the elevator, following you all the way to your desk as you place your things down. You thought coming in early would save you, but now you have to deal with this for even longer than usual. Great.
You make your way to the breakroom for coffee, passing under the streamers and trying not to think of the other evening again as the nagging continues.
“C’mon, I know you don’t really have anyone. Just let me take you; I promise to make it worth your while.” You cringe.
“I’m okay, really-”
“I’ll even treat you to dinner.” He practically traps you against the counter, “And maybe we can go to my place and-” His hand is inches from grabbing your shoulder when the voice of God interrupts.
“What are you doing?” Oh no, that wasn’t God, that was-
Alvin turns around, looking more than a little peeved, until he spots the much taller, much more intimidating man. He practically shrinks under Kylo’s gaze, and you have half the mind to laugh if you weren’t also trying to avoid it. For more reason than one.
Kylo’s eyes shift between the two of you, and you watch as he clenches his jaw before sighing.
“I would appreciate it if you could keep personal affairs outside of work hours.” You wouldn’t call Kylo a strict boss; in fact, in comparison to most, he was probably the least traditional. Right now though, you’re more nervous than you’ve ever been.
“We were just talking about the work party, Sir.” You certainly don’t know where Alvin got the gall to argue against Kylo Ren, but you weren’t happy to be roped into it. Kylo seems shocked by Alvin's boldness as well, as he pinches the bridge of his nose and shuts his eyes. Clearly not wanting to deal with this situation so early in the morning.
“I need to see you in my office.” At first you assume he’s talking to Alvin, but his eyes are on you. Right. It probably wouldn’t do much good to talk to Alvin; he’d just argue more. So now you were the one who had to deal with the aftermath of Alvin’s insistence.
You only manage to nod your head, following him out of the break room and in the direction of his office. You’re struck between being happy you avoided one confrontation and upset you’re being forced into an even worse one.
You shut his door behind the two of you, standing quietly in the middle of his office, and he rounds his desk, taking off his coat and rolling up his sleeves. It was certainly hotter in the room than it was before. You focus on the stapler on his desk to avoid both his eyes and his forearms. You don’t think you could handle either of them right now.
“I’m so sorry, sir, I tried to tell him I’m not interested, but he keeps approaching me on company time. He just won’t take no for an answer…” Your hands are clenched into fists at your sides, and the air is so tense you could choke. When he doesn’t answer right away, you look up at him to see his eyebrows are furrowed and he’s got this displeased expression on his face. Guess your apology wasn’t enough.
He says your name to get your attention. “If he’s harassing you, you should file a complaint.” Oh. You swallow your nerves. That’s not what you’d been expecting. You thought he was going to reprimand you for loitering in the break room on company time.
“It’s fine…” He looks like he wants to say something, but he doesn’t interrupt. “Alvin just wants to know who I’m bringing to the Christmas party…”
It’s his turn to look surprised, and you guess he hadn’t caught wind of the gossip spreading around the office. Then again, he didn’t talk to anyone enough to hear the gossip. “You’re bringing someone?”
Again, it’s not the question you expect him to ask, but you’re uncomfortable nonetheless. What should you do? Should you tell him the truth or should you lie? It’s not like you had any reason to tell him the truth, but… why did you find yourself wanting to tell him? Maybe it was because he just saved you from an awkward situation. Maybe it was because he’s your boss. Or maybe it was because deep down you trusted him.
All throughout your internal dilemma Kylo just sits there patiently, never prying or getting irate. He just stares at you with those dark, beautiful eyes, snowflakes melting in his soft black hair, and enough charm to make Hallmark movie love interests look like amateurs.
“Actually…” You unclench your fists in favor of twisting your fingers together so you have something to do while you explain your situation to him. When you’re finished, he’s got this really pensive look on his face, leaning his forearms against the edge of his desk as he bites his lip and-
Wow- that really is an exceptional stapler. It must be high quality, bet it staples like nothing you’ve ever stapled before.
“Have you told anyone else?” You shake your head, still avoiding looking at the lower half of his face for no particular reason.
“Good. I’ll be your date then.” His words are like a smack to the face: “If you’re comfortable, of course.”
You blink, pinch yourself, and then blink again. Nothing. “I’m sorry, what?”
He stands from his desk and comes around to stand in front of you, your eyes level with his chest. You can’t bring yourself to look up, and your brain is of no help since it’s switching between a loop of ‘date date date date’ and ‘tall tall tall tall.’
“We’re both going anyway; it would save both of us from the trouble of unwanted questions.” Oh… for a second you thought
“No, I can’t ask that of you, i-” His hands cover yours, and it takes you a second to realize he’s stopping you from your nervous fidgeting. His are so much bigger than yours and surprisingly warm for someone who just came in from the snow. You’re trying not to let all the blood rush to your cheeks by stopping your heart, but it doesn't seem to be working.
He calls your name quietly, and you’re brought from your thoughts back to dark, warm eyes. “ I want to help.”
You sigh in relief, “Thank goodness. Saves me the trouble of hiring a fake date off of Craigslist.
His brows furrow once again, a frown overtaking the slight smile he had started to sport.
“That’s dangerous.”
You shrug. It was your last resort. Plus, isn’t that how all the good rom-coms start out? Maybe Kylo was stopping you from your own hallmark romance by helping you out. You glance down at your hands still engulfed by his, and your breath hitches. Or maybe he was starting one.
~~
You and Kylo don’t have much time to prepare considering the Christmas work party was…tonight. After the two of you finally let go of each other, you sat down to discuss your game plan.
“What if people ask about you being my date? Won’t they think it’s a little weird considering…”
He shrugs, clearly not bothered by the notion of what others might think, but after a few seconds of contemplation, he seems to have found a solution.
“Tell them we’re dating.”
It takes a few seconds for his words to register; your brain short circuits, and your heart stills.
“...Is that… okay?” You swallow. It’s not like you were opposed to the idea of letting everyone believe you pulled him for a little while. Maybe you could even trick yourself into believing it.
“I agree it might raise some suspicion if anyone were to ask, and I don’t think it would hurt to let everyone believe that you and I were together.” If you look hard enough, you think you might spot a light dusting of pink across his cheeks.
If you had a glass of water, you’d do a spit take right about now. There was no way your crush/boss just suggested you fake date while blushing like a teenage boy. You had to be dreaming.
 “And your coworker might find it suspicious that you’ve been claiming to have a date but only show up with me after our meeting this morning.” You nod, he would probably call you out on it. “If we claim we’ve been dating for a short while, then we could say that we were discussing our outfits or something.” It’s the most you’ve ever heard the man say at once and you’re a little endeared by his nervous rambling. Who knew the ever intimidating, quiet Kylo Ren could be so…cute.
Still, it's not like you had any plans of refusing his offer.
“Okay. We’ll pretend to date, but just for tonight." You don’t need to add any more fuel to your delusional fantasies.
He nods, and the two of you get to planning out as many of the details as you can before people begin trickling into the office. You’ve got the basics of your meet-cute and slow ascent into a relationship down when the clock chimes, signaling your official start time.
You stand from his desk, stretching a bit and pretending like you don’t see the way his eyes trace the movement. “Oh- people might get suspicious if we don’t hug or anything at the party… Is it okay if we-”
He smiles at you, the kind of smile you’re not used to seeing from him, and it makes your insides go warm. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you.” You nod and slip out of his office, brain screaming that he said “you” and not “it.” You groan; there was no way you were going to be productive when Kylo Ren had just told you he’d take care of you. In broad daylight, no less.
~~~~~~~~~
You arrive a little early to the office that evening as requested by Rey. Apparently, food was a day-of affair, and you’d been the lucky bastard assigned to pick it up. Rey’s fixing up a few of the decorations that had gotten crooked during the week. Some of these office workers walked through a tinsel-covered doorway like there was a fire on their side.
You take a sip of your punch as your coworkers begin to trickle in, complimenting their attire and making idle chat. Most of the men have come in suits while the women have come in tight-fitting dresses they aren’t usually allowed to wear to work. You’re in the beautiful outfit you bought months ago, and the confidence it gives you makes you stand a little taller. It was either that or the heels.
Your lovely evening comes to a screeching halt, however, when a cocky voice interrupts your current conversation.
“Where’s your date, huh? You know you didn't have to lie just because you didn't want to go with me. That's just embarrassing.” Apparently he’d moved on from wooing you and was now set on embarrassing you instead. Some men just can’t handle rejection maturely. Still, he’d spoken loud enough that some of your coworkers had heard and were now whispering to each other.
You felt like you were in high school all over again. For a minute you considered going home, but you wouldn't let yourself be bullied out of a fun experience by this child.
“I said he’s on his way, Alvin. I know you have a hard time comprehending the word ‘No’ but I didn’t know you struggled so much with the rest of the English language as well." Okay, so being civil has gone completely out of the window. Did someone spike the punch?
You can tell you struck a nerve, and he looks about ready to call you every slur in the book when the elevator dings. Your date stepping out and looking handsome as ever. He shakes the snow from his hair as he stalks over to you, wrapping an arm around your hip and pulling you into his side. The entire office just gapes at you as generic Christmas jingles play through the speakers.
“Sorry I’m late.” He apologizes, bending down to plant a kiss to the top of your head with such ease it would seem like you’ve done this before. So this is what he meant when he said he’d take care of you, huh? You could get used to this.
“I was picking this up.” He hands a paper over to Alvin with satisfaction in his eyes. “Enjoy the party, it will be your last with this department” Gasps and murmurs are heard throughout the office and you think somewhere in there the music stops. Office people really had nothing better to do with their lives. This was probably like a real life soap opera to them.
Alvin scrunches the paper beneath his grip as he reads it over, his fury amplifying tenfold, as evident by his red face and the vein threatening to burst from his forehead. When he looks up, his face is practically murderous as he glares at Kylo Ren.
“I’m being moved to another department?! After everything I’ve done? What’s the reason?”
A smile overtakes Kylo’s face, his eyes crinkling at the sides, and the atmosphere instantly chills. No one’s ever seen Kylo smile, at least not like this. It’s a wicked, cruel, satisfied sneer, completely opposite to the one he gave you in his office this morning. You’d hate to be on the receiving end of this one.
“Harassment.” Is the only reply Kylo offers, and Alvin pales. The nosy coworkers around you whisper amongst themselves, and you watch as all the fight drains out of Alvin, leaving him a sad, embarrassed mess. He doesn’t say another word as he turns and stomps away; the unfortunate people who don’t move out of his way in time get shoulder-checked, and you watch as his reputation crumbles to the ground.
It takes a couple of minutes, but once the rest of the office workers assume that the drama has finished, the music starts back up and the party resumes like nothing had happened. Except for the addition of your date.
Rey walks up beside you moments later, patting you on the shoulder and giving you a proud once-over. “That was beautiful to witness.” You roll your eyes but don’t deny the satisfaction thrumming through you. You handed Kylo the report sometime around noon but you hadn’t expected him to act on it so fast.
As Rey fills Kylo in on what’s been going on at the party, you let your eyes drift over the office. Most people seemed to be having a good time, but there was a group of women across the room who wouldn't stop staring at you- or more specifically, at the pair of you.
As if he reads your mind, Kylo begins rubbing small circles into your hips, a small gesture that threatens to make you melt right here and now. Rey gives you a look but doesn’t comment as she excuses herself to go get punch.
Now that you’re practically alone, Kylo takes the moment to dip his head down to your ear; his face is cold from the snow, and a shiver runs down your spine as his skin nearly makes contact with yours.
“You look stunning.”
Your heart pounds, all of its blood rushing to your face. If you turned your head, your lips would be centimeters from his. But he was your boss, and this was all for show, so you take a deep breath and try to ignore how good it feels when he touches you. How used to it you already are.
“Thank you.” Turning around, you drink in the sight of him. He’s wearing black pants and a black turtleneck, donning a grey trench coat instead of his usual black. His outfit isn’t much different from what he wears daily, but somehow he looks even better than usual. Maybe it was because- at least for tonight- he was yours.
“I see you’re really branching out with your style this evening.” He smirks, and your heart skips a beat. My god, this was going to be a long night.
~~~~~
Kylo held close to you the whole evening, playing the dutiful role of partner and date by bringing you punch and appetizers.
You weren’t allowed to participate in most of the games since you set them up, but that didn’t stop Kylo from trying his hand at a few. It’s safe to say he was not going to be your first pick for partner during game night.
You flinch a little at your own thoughts. All throughout the night you kept picturing what it would be like if he were your actual partner, and it was becoming dangerous. Mostly because of how much you wanted it to happen. You were practically halfway to imagining coming home to him cooking dinner and asking how work was. Which was stupid because you worked at the same place.
Things only got worse when, at some point in the night, the two of you found yourselves caught under the mistletoe. You probably could’ve just walked away considering no one else noticed, but the second Kylo noticed, he tipped your chin up towards him and smiled, sending your stomach into somersaults.
You tried to calm your racing heart, bracing yourself as you felt his warmth inch closer. You shut your eyes and wait for the moment his lips touch yours, but after a while it never comes. His dark chuckle fills the air, and embarrassment floods through you at how desperate you probably looked. Before you can push away from him, however, you feel his nose brush against your cheek, his low voice at your ear.
“The first time I kiss you, I’ll make sure it’s because you ask me to, not because you think I feel obligated by this stupid tradition.” His deep voice whispers, breath warm against your ear. “Not like this.”
He kisses the edge of your jaw, just below your ear, and a shiver runs down your spine. His lips are warm and soft and ever so delicate against your skin.
You want to turn your lips to his, ask him to kiss you, do anything to continue this feeling, but you’re frozen on the spot, your body refusing to move from either shock or disbelief. It’s only a few seconds, but it’s enough time for Kylo to freeze up and pull away, his fists clenching at his sides as his eyes refuse to meet yours.
“I’m sorry.” He barely gives you enough time to process his words before he’s walking away and disappearing into the crowd.
You don’t know what to do, your mind and body at odds, but your heart is desperate to do whatever it takes to have him that close again. It’s the furthest he’s been from you the whole night, and you’re quick to miss the comfort of his touch. But if you went after him, if you asked him for what he’d practically confirmed you both wanted…what would people think?
You had to find Rey.
~~~~~~
You find Rey in the break room-turned-drink-station restocking the hot chocolate bar; all it takes is one look at you for her to immediately rush over, worry evident on her face. You have no idea what you look like right now, but it must be bad enough if Rey’s reacting so strongly.
“What’s wrong? What’s going on? Did Alvin do something?” You softly shake your head, unsure how to start the conversation. There was so much that had happened since this morning, and thinking about all of it was threatening to push you over the edge. Though the biggest issue was the event moments ago that still has your jaw tingling.
“Did Kylo do something?” You stay silent, technically yes, though you weren’t sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing. Your heart is screaming, ‘Chase after him and kiss him back!’ but your mind is screaming, ‘He’s your boss! What would people think?’.
Groaning, you dig your head into your hands, the whole situation quickly becoming too much for your poor body. In all your years working here, nothing has stressed you out quite like this.
Unable to hold everything in, you practically word vomit the entire spiel to Rey, starting from this morning in the office and ending with the kiss under the mistletoe. When you’re done, her face is overtaken by shock, and you breathe a breath of relief, glad to no longer have to keep the secret to yourself.
“I just… I don’t know what to do." You admit to Rey after a contemplative silence, and she seems to shake out of her shock as she takes in your distress.
“I don’t know why you’re stressing yourself out so much over something that has such an obvious answer.” Your brow furrows at her words; had she not heard you?
Rey takes one look at your expression and sighs, placing a friendly but firm hand on your shoulder.
“Listen, you’ve got to stop putting these restrictions on yourself based on how you think people will react. Yeah, maybe some people will talk, but who cares? The people who love you will support you no matter what; everyone else? They don’t matter.”
You swallow the lump in your throat, willing yourself not to cry at the words you didn’t know you so desperately needed to hear. She was right. All this time you’d been holding yourself back from something that could make you happy just because other people might not approve. But it wasn’t up to them- this was your life. And you were going to do whatever the hell you damn pleased. And that was your boss, Kylo Ren.
“I’m so stupid,” You grumble as Rey just laughs.
“Maybe. But everyone’s allowed to be a little stupid sometimes." You shove her shoulder, which only spurs her laughter on further, and eventually you can’t help but join in. It feels like an immense weight has been lifted off of your shoulders.
When the two of you finally calm down, you pull Rey into a tight hug, thanking her for helping you open your eyes.
“I’m going to go talk to him.” You decide, though you were still nervous about his response, you felt empowered by her words. If you didn’t confess tonight, you’d probably chicken out by tomorrow.
“Well, if you’re going to do something, you better hurry.” She pulls away from you and turns you around. “Looks like he’s leaving.” She points her finger in the direction of the office elevator, and you spot him stepping onto it.
“What?!” Rey just chuckles as you scramble out of the kitchen and into the open office, ducking and weaving your fellow partygoers in an attempt to catch the elevator doors before they close. It’s no use; you’re not going to make it in time, and it doesn’t look like Kylo sees you coming either, clearly lost in his own thoughts as the doors slide shut.
People barely acknowledge you as you rush by, most too drunk to notice you, and you thank God you didn’t have too much to drink; you’d probably never catch up to him with two drunk left feet.
You pivot from your original destination and instead make your way to the stairs. Your office wasn’t too many floors up, so there was a chance you could catch him outside the building if you ran fast enough.
Practically throwing open the stairwell doors, you begin hopping down them two at a time, already losing breath from your game of office-themed subway surfers. The stairwell air is stale as you choke it down in pants; no one ever used the stairs, and thus the air was ripe with dust and unuse.
When you finally make it to the bottom floor, you’re nearly wheezing, but you ignore the weird looks some of the lobby people give you at your frantic state. Obviously confused about why you chose to run down multiple flights of stairs instead of taking the elevator.
Your eyes scan the lobby for Kylo, but there’s no sight of him, so you book it to the front doors, although after those stairs your ‘booking it’ is more like a pained half jog, half limp.
The outside air is a slap in the face, especially when the wind brushes against the sweat that had begun to form on your skin. In your haste, you’d also forgotten to grab your jacket. You knew Rey could always grab it for you, but that wasn’t helpful now. To make matters worse, there was no trace of soft black hair or grey trench coat to be seen.
You whipped your head back and forth to both sides of the city sidewalk, but there was no sight of him. You were too late. Now you were left feeling cold and defeated as you slumped against the side of the building.
You didn’t know if you could work up enough courage to ask him after the holiday break was over. Too much time with your own thoughts tends to convince you of the wrong things. Knowing you missed your chance, you let the harsh winter air bite at your skin as you fight back the tears threatening to emerge.
Until the soft call of your name has your gaze shooting up to see Kylo exiting the building. Your heart virtually flipping with hope. You hadn’t missed him; you’d beaten him to the ground floor.
“Kylo!” You practically shout as he approaches you; you wince, lowering your tone, “Where are you going?” You notice that his eyes refuse to meet yours, instead tracing the outline of your face. You frown. If he notices your disheveled state, he doesn’t comment on it. Instead he seems to contemplate his response.
“I’m leaving,” is all he supplies you with, and you’re more than a little confused, used to the Kylo who engages in at least light small talk with you. Maybe you’d been wrong about his feelings for you… maybe he regret it?
“Why?” Your voice is rough, tired from the race down the stairs and the fight against all the emotions welling up inside you. You bite your lip to keep from saying more, and his eyes flick down to it before quickly looking away.
“I’m sorry,” He starts, and you bite down your questions of why in favor of letting him continue. “I overstepped. I-” He swallows, clearly having a hard time getting his words out. You could practically taste the regret rolling off of him. “To tell you the truth… I couldn't be around you anymore.”
His words are like a slap to the face, harsher than the winter air that nips at your cheeks. You were right. You’d read it all wrong, and now he was going to have to let you down easy. You should’ve just let him go.
“Oh… I see.
He nods. “I tried to ignore it, to keep my distance, but… knowing how it feels to hold you, to touch you, to call you mine for a whole night…” He looks truly wrecked; his voice is rough, and his hair is disheveled, having clearly been nervously brushed through more than once on the ride down here. You’ve never seen him look so vulnerable before, and it breaks your heart. “I’ve spent weeks thinking about you, looking forward to our interactions, taking care of you from afar…”
You bite back the urge to gasp at his admission; your heart flutters at his words as they slowly dawn on you. Your head reeling as it 360s with this new information. Seconds ago you thought he was turning you down, and now it sounded almost like he was… confessing to you.
“And then you confided in me this morning, and I selfishly took it as my chance to get closer to you, to have an excuse to be near you.” He glares at the ground, upset with himself. Although you were surprised to hear his reason went beyond just helping you tonight, you weren’t mad about it; it wasn’t like he did it for a malicious reason. And it helps that you thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.
You open your mouth to tell him as much, but he continues his guilty admittance before you get the chance “You look so good tonight, and you had that look in your eyes under the mistletoe I thought-” He shakes his head, stopping before he reveals too much. “But I overstepped. I was supposed to be here to help you, and instead I let my own selfish desires get in the way.”
You almost want to laugh at his words. Not because they were funny but because it reminded you so much of yourself. He’d clearly had enough time by himself to overthink his actions, although it probably didn’t help that you ran to tell Rey instead of running after him. He’d probably assumed you went to go file a complaint to HR.
The only difference between the two of you was that while you wouldn’t get with him because you were scared to be selfish, he wouldn’t get with you because he was scared he was being too selfish.
“You said it was only for tonight, and I’m okay with that; I just-”
“What if I’m not?” You cut him off, and his head shoots up, eyes meeting yours for the first time since that kiss. You’d never get tired of his eyes, no matter how pained or tired they looked.
“What?” He breathed, his breath coming out in small white puffs as he stared at you in disbelief, unsure if what he heard was real or not.
“What if I want it to be for more than just tonight?” You step closer to him; the warmth radiates off of him in waves, and his scent floods your senses, his eyes tracking your every move with uncertainty.
“Is what you said in there true? That you’d kiss me if I asked you to?” You take another step towards him as his eyes dart to your lips then back up. He swallows hard but dips his head in a short nod, and it’s all the confirmation you need to give you the confidence for what you say next.
“Then this is me asking you to.”
He hesitates, and for a moment you think he’s not going to do it, but then his hands grasp your jaw and pull you in, inches away from him. You catch yourself using your hands on his chest; his breathing is heavy, and you can feel his heart pounding from under his shirt.
He tilts your chin up, searching your eyes for something, and then his lips are pressing against yours. It’s heated and full of want- you feel everything he’s been holding back for the past few months in this kiss. Goosebumps rise on your arms, and you're unsure if it’s from the cold or his touch, but it’s probably the latter.
His lips are soft and warm against the cold snow that falls on your cheeks. He wipes it away with his thumbs, and you lean into the touch.
You think someone across the street cheers, and he pulls back with a laugh. Not the usual chuckle you’re occasionally graced with but a light, breathy laugh that pulls on your heartstrings. You tug him back in for a second kiss, and he’s only surprised for a second before he’s kissing you back with a fever, a kiss far more bruising and desperate than the last.
When he pulls back this time, he licks his lips like he can't get enough of the taste of you, and if you weren’t already gone for him, the sight of him disheveled and panting because of you would surely do it.
The two of you stand there, him cradling your face and looking at you like he can’t believe you’re real until a memory dawns on you.
”I knew that was you leaving gifts for me at my desk!”
He just chuckles and leans his forehead against yours, dipping down to capture your lips again. The cold snow doing nothing against the warmth of his touch.
The cold, the people around you, your coworkers—none of it mattered when he held you. All that mattered was the warm, syrupy feeling of happiness that welled up inside of you and the man trying to kiss you until you passed out.
Thank God for office Christmas parties.
A/n: I hope you enjoyed it! feel free to leave a comment. Happy Holidays everyone! ~Starry
You sat at your desk, studying for your upcoming midterms and nervously chewing on the inside of your mouth. Mathematics had never been your strong suit and despite only being a month and a half into the semester, your calculus class was stressing you out to no end. The rhythmic ticking of your clock was not helping in the slightest, so you reached for your headphones.
This class is taking years off of my life for sure.
As you looked for a good playlist, you heard your bedroom window open behind you. You yelped, turning in your chair to face your window. Your panic died when you realized it was only Kylo, your older brother's friend.
Once he was finally inside, he shut your window before standing up straight. Kylo was probably the tallest person you knew, almost touching the low ceiling of your bedroom. You couldn't deny how your stomach did flips when you were stood next to him, not to mention he was absolutely fucking beautiful. Kylo's features looked like they were carved from marble and his long, dark hair always fell perfectly around his face. If he weren't so goddamn annoying, you'd like him a lot more.
You groaned. "When are you gonna stop coming in through my window you asshole?"
"It isn't my fault your window is the most accessible and the lock is broken." He smirked.
Your eyes narrowed as you glared at him. "The least you could do is knock, what if I like... had a guy over or something?"
Kylo laughed, walking over to you. He turned you in your desk chair to face your computer and pushed it in, before leaning down over your shoulder to look at your screen. "I think we both know that doesn't happen, kid." He jabbed before making his way to your door.
Your face felt hot, his audacity never failed to make you seethe. And his choice of nickname for you only made you madder. You turned to glare at him. "You fucker- I- you're only like 3 years older than me!??"
You heard him laugh as he walked out of your room and down the hallway.
What made it worse was that it seemed he had everyone in your family fooled. Kylo acted like an absolute angel in front of your mother, and it pissed you off to no end. When he would come over for dinner, he always insisted on helping her with the dishes. He would make conversation with her, crack jokes, go the whole nine yards as if he weren't a college dropout and also doing drugs with her son on the side.
Your mom, being the stereotypical Christian, midwestern mother that she is, would always say things along the lines of "Oh Kylo, you're such a sweet boy. It amazes me that someone like you listens to such angry music." He would just blush and laugh it off.
Kylo drove a black 1969 Dodge Charger R/T that he would pull up to your house in, blasting the loudest possible music. Your dad loved him, and they would always talk cars when they got the chance. The first time you came home and saw your dad helping Kylo change his oil, you thought you had died and gone to hell. You just stared as Kylo smirked at you. That stupid, evil smirk you were so used to seeing.
They can't possibly be serious?? How do they not see how much of a jerk he is?
You however, he was much different with. Any chance Kylo got to annoy you, he would do it. He frequently stood outside your door for god knows how long, just waiting for you to come out so he could scare you. You would jump and yell expletives at him before weakly punching him in the shoulder. He and your brother would just laugh, thinking it was funniest thing in the world.
You sighed, staring at your computer screen. You were over studying for the night. You shut your door, before turning off the light and getting into bed. You tried to sleep, but couldn't. The stress of college was slowly suffocating you but despite that, you couldn't seem to get Kylo out of your head.
Sure, you have had a slight crush on him since you were in middle school, I mean who wouldn't? Look at him. But it didn't mean anything, the feeling was almost certainly not mutual and he was still the biggest asshole you'd ever met.
God I fucking hate him... I mean I don't, but I do.
Your thoughts were interrupted by a light tapping at your door. Your brow furrowed. "Yeah?"
Kylo opened your door slowly, making sure it didn't creak as he closed it behind him. "What are you still doing awake, its 3am. Don't you have classes tomorrow?" He whispered, fumbling with your window.
You rolled your eyes, still staring at the ceiling. "Yeah. What do you care?"
He smirked slightly, swinging one leg out the window before looking at you. "Finn asked me to pick you up tomorrow. What time are you off?"
Fucking fantastic.
"Oh, great." You said sarcastically. "2:30pm. The math and science building."
He ducked through the open window, and stuck his head back inside your room to look at you. "See you at 2:30 then." He smirked, before exiting again and shutting your window, leaving you in the dark.
I am not looking forward to tomorrow.
The following afternoon, you sat in your calculus class zoning out and unable to keep your mind off Kylo. You would never admit it, not even to yourself, but you were definitely daydreaming. You were thinking about how soft his hair always looks and how it might feel to run your fingers through it.
You didn't realize your professor had called on you until he said your name for a second time, repeating his question. You sat up straight before looking down, your eyes scanning your paper. "Oh um- the answer is... x equals three fourths." Your face felt warm.
"That's correct. Lets try to be more focused, though." Your professor sighed, before continuing his lecture. You nodded quickly, looking down at your paper.
As you walked to the parking lot, your palms felt sweaty. You'd been in Kylo's car only a couple times before and it was a long time ago. The recent nagging thoughts you had been having about him didn't quell your nervousness either. You spotted his car quickly, and made your way to the passenger side.
When you opened the door, his music blared so loud, you thought his speakers might blow out. You sat your bag on the floor of his car before getting in and shutting the door.
Kylo was smirking when you turned to glare at him. You reached over and turned the dial down halfway and he laughed.
"Too loud for you princess?" He said sarcastically, leaning over to look behind him as he backed out of the parking lot.
You rolled your eyes and buckled your seatbelt, smoothing out your skirt with your hands. "Too loud for most people. Can I play something?"
Kylo scoffed, that stupid smirk still on his face. "Fuck no, you can't play your music in my car."
"Whatever." You crossed your arms, staring straight ahead.
After a few minutes of silence, Kylo finally spoke. "Have you heard of Slipknot?" He asked, nodding his head towards the radio and tapping his long fingers on the steering wheel to the music.
You scoffed, turning your head to face him. "Yes I've heard of Slipknot, you loser... It's just not really my thing. Kind of scary sounding... its just screaming mostly."
He laughed loudly at your last comment. "Scary? Aw, now that's cute. I bet you listen to Lana Del Rey or some shit like that." Kylo said sarcastically, putting a cigarette between his lips and lighting it. He took a drag from it before offering it to you.
You rolled your eyes at him before taking it. Your fingers brushed against his, sending a shiver down your spine. You took a drag off of it before speaking. "Lana Del Rey makes really good music." Despite facing the window, you felt his eyes on you the whole time.
"Oh so I was right?" He grinned, staring at the road now. "I just said the first girly thing that came to mind... And when did you start smoking? I'm gonna tell your mom." He laughed.
You attempted to hide the smile that played at the corners of your mouth. "I'll be sure to tell her you supplied me with them... and yeah I like Lana. She sings about real shit." You took another drag from the cigarette, blowing the smoke out of the window.
Kylo scoffed at you again, motioning to the radio. "And you don't think bands like this do?... This song is called Metabolic, its about the lead singer's absent father and how he fears he will become just like him. They sing about real shit too, it isn't just screaming."
You shrugged, taking another hit before handing the cigarette back to him as he pulled into your driveway. "I never said they didn't, I'm just not super into this type of music."
He glared at you as you grabbed your bag, cigarette dangling from his mouth. You got out of his car, and shut the door behind you. "Thanks for the ride, Kylo" You said through gritted teeth.
I can't believe I'm telling this man thank you.
"No problem." He looked like he wanted to say something else but he stopped himself.
You nodded, before heading to your door. You noticed that he had watched you and waited for you to get inside your house before pulling away.
"How nice of Kylo for driving you home. What a sweet boy." Your mom smiled as you came through the door. "I wish he wouldn't smoke though, you smell like cigarettes."
"Yeah, he's cool." You sigh as you walk up the stairs, making your way to your room before shutting your bedroom door behind you.
You sit at your desk and open your laptop to get started on some homework. Before you start, you grab your headphones and open your phone, deciding to give Kylo's music taste another try. As you do your calculus homework, you find yourself tapping your foot to the music.
The following day, you waited outside for Finn to pick you up from class. You had waited 30 minutes before deciding to call him and he didn't pick up a single one of your several calls.
That fucker. He just left me here.
You huffed before opening your phone again in defeat, pressing on Kylo's contact.
"Yeah?" He sounded like had been sleeping. Your face felt hot from just the sound of his voice.
"I um- Finn left me here and I uh... don't have anyone to pick me up... Can you please come get me?" It felt so foreign asking Kylo for literally anything.
"Yeah I'll be there in fifteen minutes." He said. You noticed that he sounded much more alert, and you heard him shuffling in the background.
"Okay thanks... Uh- bye." You hung up, sitting down on the curb.
It wasn't even seven minutes before Kylo turned into the parking lot and pulled up next to you.
You opened the door, throwing your bag on the floor and getting in. "Jesus Christ, man?? How many traffic laws did you break getting here?" You smirked as you buckled your seatbelt.
Kylo laughed. "If you drove, and owned a car like this, you'd speed too." You couldn't help but notice the light pink that spread across his cheeks at your comment.
He handed you your own cigarette this time, and you placed it in your mouth. You went to reach for the lighter but he beat you to it.
"Allow me." Kylo said before raising the flame up to the end of your cigarette. You inhale, watching it ignite. You caught his gaze for a moment and felt the butterflies return, quickly averting your eyes and taking the cigarette between your fingers to turn and exhale out of his window. Kylo cleared his throat and looked ahead before lighting his own and pulling away.
You both listened to his music in silence for a few minutes. As you fidgeted with the hem of your skirt, you recognized the song playing and began to mouth the lyrics.
I am my father's son 'cause he's a phantom, a mystery, and that leaves me nothing.
How many times have you wanted to die?
It's too late for me, all you have to do is get rid of me.
You can't see California without Marlon Brando's eyes.
Kylo's eyes darted over to you a few times, and he laughed. "There is no way- are you fucking singing along to Slipknot right now?! I thought this shit scared you, kid?" The look on his face was filled with shock and amusement.
"It's a catchy song. I don't know... Stop calling me that asshole!" You could feel the deep blush creeping across your face.
"No, No." He wasn't letting this go. "I didn't play this CD in the car yesterday, did you seriously go home and listen to it?" Between that and how embarrassed you looked from him pointing it out, Kylo could not contain the smile of pure amusement on his face.
"I don't know- Maybe." You looked out of the window, not facing him. You wanted nothing more than to die in that moment.
He was loving this too much. "Fucking obsessed with me, aren't ya? Listening to my songs and shit." Kylo teased.
You turned to glare at him. "I- No! Shut the fuck up." You gripped the fabric of your skirt and took a final drag of your cigarette before tossing it out of the window.
He laughed, shaking his head as he pulled into the driveway. "I'm only fucking with you."
"That's all you ever seem to do. Thanks for the ride I guess." You muttered as you got out of his car, slamming the door before walking to your house. As you walked away, you caught a glimpse of the look of disappointment and guilt on Kylo's face.
Fucking asshole. So unbelievable.
Kylo stayed in your driveway for a minute, debating on whether he should knock on your door to say something to you, but he ultimately decided against it and drove away.
That night, you laid in bed staring at your ceiling once again, head filled with thoughts of that stupid fucking beautiful asshole.
I don't understand him. He does nice shit for me sometimes, but then all he does is make fun of me?
And even after all of that, all you could think about was that stupid cigarette dangling from his lips and how hot he looked. Your mind wandered to how Kylo would lean closer to you, his hand resting on the back of your headrest while reversing. How he nodded his head and tapped his fingers on the steering wheel to the music. How close his face was to yours when he insisted on lighting your cigarette for you.
God! I'm such an idiot. I cant stand him or myself for that matter.
You heard a few taps on your window and your brow furrowed. You rolled out of bed, walking to your window before opening it. You were met with Kylo's dark eyes staring back at you.
Your eyes narrowed at him. "What a gentleman, thank you for knocking this time..." You said sardonically. "But Finn is asleep I think."
"Had to make sure you didn't have a guy over." He teased. "But I'm not here for him... you wanna smoke?" He grinned at you, holding up a neatly rolled joint.
You laughed nervously. "I've never smoked weed before Kylo, I don't know..."
"Of course you haven't... It'll be fine, I'm not asking you to smoke the whole goddamn thing." He smirked, offering his hand for you to take.
You sighed before taking Kylo's hand and ducking out of your window. The cold, October air sent goosebumps across your exposed arms and legs. He led you to a flat part of your roof and the both of you sat down together.
You watched as he placed the joint in his mouth and lit it, taking a couple hits before handing it to you.
You inhaled, noticing how it burned a little more than a cigarette does. You coughed slightly, which caused Kylo to chuckle, and you glared at him as you handed the joint back to him.
"I'm sorry if I made you mad earlier." He smirked, taking another hit.
You scoffed. "You just fuck with me too much. You always have."
Kylo sighed. "I only do it because your reactions are so fun... I didn't think about how it might make you feel." He paused. "And besides, I think its cute that you listened to my music all on your own, for the fun of it."
You blushed, hoping that the darkness would conceal the pink creeping across your face. "It's fine. I'm so used to your games by now." You laughed, shivering slightly.
Kylo placed the joint between his lips before slipping his dark jacket off and draping it around your shoulders. It felt so warm and was about three sizes too big for you. You laughed nervously, looking down. "Thank you."
He nodded, gazing down at you as he handed you the joint.
As the two of you sat in silence for a minute, the weed had already begun to take its toll on you. Everything seemed funny to you and as you looked up at the stars, you laughed softly at nothing.
Kylo smiled at you. "What's so funny, kid? Already high from two baby hits?" He teased. "This isn't even my strongest shit."
"You're such an idiot." You laughed at him, shaking your head.
The next hour was spent laughing about anything and everything. The two of you made fun of your brother, talked about college and how both of you agree calculus fucking sucks, and the two of you shared some other artists you liked with each other.
"I can't believe I clocked you so easily with Lana fucking Del Rey. I honest to god said that as a joke." Kylo laughed.
"Hey, she makes good music. Please let me make you listen to her the next time we're in the car, please." You playfully begged.
He sighed, feigning defeat. "Fine but only like two songs max... so you better make them good." Kylo smirked as he flicked the roach off the roof.
You weren't sure if it was the weed in your system, but something was giving you a slight newfound confidence to speak more freely. You sighed. "You're always spot on about me though... I am kind of lame. I always had this idea in my head that you and Finn were the ones who were losers... but in reality I am."
Kylo looked at you, puzzled. "I never thought you were a loser... I poke fun at you, sure, but I admire your intelligence... and how introverted you always are." He laughed, playfully pushing your shoulder.
You laughed nervously. "No, I mean... I don't go out and do anything fun the way you do. I don't loosen up, I don't hang out with people, I definitely never have guys over..." You laughed again, trailing off. "I mean my god I've never even kissed anyone."
He stared at you, his eyes scanning your face as if he were debating something. "You've got to be fucking with me right now. A pretty thing like you has surely got to have boys lined up and down the street."
You laughed at his comment, blushing. "If they are, I surely don't pay attention. No one talks to me at school." You stared at your lap, fiddling with the sleeves of his jacket.
You felt his cold fingertips touch your jaw, lifting your chin to look up at him. Before you could say anything, Kylo leaned in quickly and kissed you. You felt like a live wire, as if lightning bolts were shooting through your entire body. His kiss was urgent, yet gentle, and he held your face in his hands so tenderly.
When he pulled away, his eyes met yours and you both smiled nervously at each other. You noticed him shiver slightly. "Do you wanna... maybe go inside? It's warmer in there." You said shyly.
Kylo smirked at you. "Are you inviting a guy into your room right now?" He teased before standing up and taking your hand.
You giggled, following him. "Shut up."
He chuckled softly and when you got to the window, he went first. He ducked inside, pulling you with him which caused you both to practically fall through your window. You landed on top of him, your hushed giggles only silenced once he kissed you again.
"Shhh are you trying to wake your parents?" Kylo smirked up at you for a moment, taking in the sight of you on top of him on your bedroom floor, the moonlight from the window behind you illuminating you in a halo-like glow. He grabbed your waist and gently rolled you off of him, before you both stood up.
His large, strong hands pulled you by the waist closer to him, and he had to lean down to kiss you. His kiss was full of need this time, you felt his tongue glide along your bottom lip, asking for entry and you obliged, parting your lips. You moaned against his mouth and you felt the smirk that played at his lips.
Kylo took a few steps forward, pushing you gently backwards until the backs of your knees hit your soft bed. He pulled away for a moment to take his jacket off of you and throw it to the floor, before pushing you flat onto your bed.
"I-I've never... um." You stumbled over your words, feeling your face get hot as your eyes darted up to your ceiling.
Kylo leaned over you, his palms flat on the mattress on either side of your head. "I just stole your first kiss a couple minutes ago, you don't think I know that?" He smirked down at you before tilting his head slightly, leaning closer to trail kisses down your neck. "Do you not want to? I can stop whenever you want, all you need to do is say so." He whispered between kisses, trailing his hand down your body and stopping just above your clothed cunt.
The sensation made the heat in your core grow. "N-no. Don't stop Kylo." You whined.
He smiled, before standing straight up again and looking down at you. He looped his fingers under the waistband of your shorts and underwear, pulling them off slowly. "Look at you sweet thing, I've barely touched you and you're already a fucking mess." He teased, causing you to whimper.
Kylo chuckled softly, separating your knees and ghosting his hand down your thigh, stopping at your heat. He ran two long fingers through your slit, collecting your wetness on them before rubbing light circles over your clit. You gasped at the contact, bucking your hips instinctively against his hand. "Needy little thing, aren't you?" He smirked, using his other hand to hold your waist down before pushing his fingers inside slowly.
You whined at the feeling of his long fingers stretching you out, your much smaller hands were nothing compared to his. After giving you a moment to adjust, Kylo began to slowly pump his fingers in and out of your cunt, curling them upwards to draw sweet, soft moans from you.
"K-Kylo..." You breathed.
He smirked, amused by how quickly you were coming undone at his hand. "What is it, pretty girl?"
You whined at the sweet name he gave you, stuttering over your words once again. "You're g-gonna make me c-cum."
Kylo laughed softly, he had already gathered that from the noises you were making. "Oh, yeah?" He smirked at you, not faltering once with the steady pace he had created with his fingers.
"P-please. Please I want you to..." You trailed off, lost in the pleasure he was giving you.
"Please what? I'm not gonna do anything else unless you ask for it. Go ahead... Say it, say it." He was having way too much fun with you.
"Please Kylo..." You begged him. "Please I- I want you t-to fuck me."
He grinned at you and stood up, removing his fingers from your cunt, before licking them clean. You tasted divine to him, and he made a mental note that he needed to taste the source at some point. Maybe another night.
You whined at the sudden feeling of emptiness and watched as he pulled a condom from his wallet, putting it between his lips before working to undo his belt. He made quick work of his clothes, saving his boxers for last and sliding them off, his cock springing upwards.
You didn't realize your mouth was open until Kylo looked over at you and saw you staring at him. He laughed, tearing the condom wrapper open with his teeth. "I'll go slow, don't worry." You watched as he slid the condom down to the base of his cock, before making his way over to you on the bed.
He made you sit up a bit so he could pull your shirt over your head, before kissing you, trailing down your neck and chest, leaving a few light red marks along the way. You whimpered at the sensation, not caring that you'd have to conceal them in the morning.
Kylo pulled away, admiring his work and settling himself between your legs, lining his cock up with your entrance. "Ready?" He moved a piece of hair from your eyes, smirking down at you.
You wrapped your arms around him, nodding your head. He groaned as he slowly pushed his cock inside you, taking extra care not to hurt you and watching as your face contorted from the feeling of his cock splitting you open. Your nails dug into his back as you whined.
After allowing you a moment to adjust to his size, Kylo began to move slowly, creating a gentle yet deep pace and hitting that bundle of nerves inside you with each thrust. It felt like heaven and you attempted to stifle your moans, failing miserably. "Shhh pretty girl, don't wake up the entire house now." He put his hand over your mouth lightly, smiling down at you.
You moaned against Kylo's hand as he began to pick up his pace slightly. He removed his hand to kiss you, his tongue winning dominance over the inside of your mouth.
Kylo pulled away to admire you, his thrusts were still gentle, but he was unrelenting on that sensitive spot, hitting it with each snap of his hips.
"Ky-kylo... m'gonna c-cum... feels so good." You whined, unable to form a coherent sentence.
"Yeah?" He moaned slightly, out of breath and nearing his own climax. "Go ahead, cum on my cock."
Your vision went blurry as you came undone beneath him, the tight coil in your abdomen bursting into fireworks of endless pleasure.
"Just like that, pretty girl. You're doing so good, Fuck." Kylo whispered in your ear, easing you through your orgasm as his hand rested over your mouth to muffle your moans.
After a few more thrusts he came to a halt with a groan, burying himself deep inside of you as he came. "Fuck- shit! You feel so fucking good." He hissed.
As Kylo came down from his high, he breathed heavily, smiling down at you before kissing you again. He pulled away, pulling out of you. You whined, which caused him to chuckle slightly. You watched as he took the condom off, throwing it in the trash before slipping his boxers back on, and retrieving his band t-shirt and your underwear from the floor.
He sat back on the bed and gently dressed you, his shirt hanging off of your much smaller frame. "You look so pretty in my clothes." He smirked at you, pulling your covers over the two of you before taking you into his arms.
You rested your head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat flutter. "Thank you." You whispered softly.
Kylo chuckled. "For what, pretty girl?" He played with your hair.
"For making my first time memorable. It was really, really good..." You trailed off sleepily.
You heard his heartbeat falter at your comment and you smiled. He ran his fingers through your hair. "You don't have to thank me for that, I've wanted to do this for a while now." Kylo waited for an answer but it never came. He sighed, smiling as he realized you had fallen asleep on him. This was a feeling he could get used to.
The following morning, you two were awoken by the sound of your mother knocking on your bedroom door. Kylo was immediately alert, scrambling out of bed and grabbing his remaining clothes before ducking under your bed as you silently laughed at him.
"Yeah?" You called out to your mother.
She entered, looking around your room. "I'm going to the grocery store, do you want anything... where did you get that shirt." She stared at the Slipknot t-shirt you were wearing that was three sizes too big for you.
You looked down at yourself, before looking back at her. "I'm doing laundry right now and Kylo left it in Finn's room a long time ago." You lied through your teeth. "And no, I don't want anything."
"Hm, okay... And close that window, the heat is on and its freezing in here!" She motioned to your open window before leaving, shutting the door behind her.
You fell back onto your pillow, shutting your eyes and smiling at the sound of Kylo's laughter beneath you.
You were in the back of his car, listening to Rey and Kylo talk about the apartment. Your eyes drifted to him every now and then, taking in his odd choice of attire—a weird lime green shirt, black loose-fit joggers, and a Carhartt beanie. He looked completely different from his usual CEO persona. Right now, he looked like some college guy running on two Red Bulls and adderall.
"Were you in a rush this morning?" you jokingly asked, noting how different he seemed on the weekend.
Kylo was always so well put together at work, but now he looked more relaxed. His eyes shifted nervously as Rey also glanced over at her cousin’s wardrobe while they sat at a stoplight. Luke, Kylo’s uncle and Rey’s father, took in Kylo’s outfit with a shrug from the passenger seat.
"I… no, it’s laundry day," he mumbled, adjusting his shirt. "Are you three going to judge me all day? After everything I've done for you?"
"Uh-huh," Rey said, eyeing her cousin once more.
You paused, your attention shifting to the brochures of the apartments Rey and you had visited with her family. Kylo’s gaze lingered on you a bit longer than expected. During the tours, he’d tried to make small talk with you. He went played a few songs in his black G- Wagon asking you about the different bands he had found thanks to your recommendations. It was cute seeing him hum to a song you liked.
However, as much as you tried, you could not stop thinking about that hot audio—the way his moans sounded, the way his whimpers drove you crazy…
"So, do we have any takers?" Rey asked, breaking through the haze of your thoughts.
"I think the second one is good. I like that there’s a washer and dryer in-unit," you said, looking over the brochure. "It’s doable."
"Or we could look at the one your cousin is at," Rey’s father, Luke, interjected. "It’s safer, quieter—"
"And down the street from you," Rey shot back, folding her arms. "You know it’s not like I’m leaving the planet, right Papa?"
You couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for her dad. Your own parents were the same way—hell, they even wanted you to move back home to save money.
"Hey, Kylo, do you have a brochure on that one?" you asked from the backseat.
Kylo looked slightly taken aback. Was he being aloof on purpose? Oh, God—did he know who you were?
No. No, that couldn't happen. There was no way. You were overthinking it.
"Unfortunately, I do not," Kylo answered. "But they’re always doing tours, so it wouldn’t be a problem to get one for you."
He turned at the light—a little too harshly.
"Ben! For God’s sake!" Luke reprimanded as the turn was too tight. "Easy, please! You’re going to give me high blood pressure."
"Y/N is the only one who doesn’t complain about my driving, unlike you two," Kylo shot back. "Last time I’m driving for any of you. Except Y/N—she’s the only nice passenger here."
You couldn’t help but stifle a laugh as Kylo rolled his eyes. Rey shook her head and scrolled through her phone before sending you a message.
Rey: Hey, Kylo has been asking about you. I think he’s got some kind of crush on you.
Your eyes drifted to Kylo, who was still rolling his eyes at Luke’s directions. His gaze caught yours for a moment before you quickly looked back at your phone, typing a response.
Y/N: Ok, so what am I supposed to do with this information?
Rey’s fingers moved quickly across her screen.
Rey: You should go for it. He’s always asking me about you, and I think he’s got the nerve to ask you out. I mean, yeah, he’s a pain in my ass, but he’s... well, he’s been alone forever. I think you two would get along. I mean he's gotten into the music you listen to. He's talking A LOT more.
You swiped up her message and sighed, chewing your inner cheek. Easy for her to say. You couldnt exactly tell her that you knew about his audios. That you actively subscribed to them. That you listened to them religiously.
Rey glanced at you and paused. "I’m trying to send you that info for the apartment Kylo’s at—what’s your emo username again? The one I wanted you to change. Death something? Dark Mistress?"
You chuckled, pushing up your purple sunglasses. You didn’t mind her teasing—after all, you always made fun of her for the embarrassing email she had kept since high school. Bunhead78.
"DeathMajesty13," you answered absentmindedly.
The moment the words left your mouth, your eyes widened in horror as Rey repeated them aloud while she typed. Your body, mind—hell, even your heart—froze.
That was your username on Audios After Dark. It wasn't the exact name you used as a patron on Kylo’s audio content, but even that title alone, matched.
Kylo slammed on the brakes at the red light, hard causing both Rey and Luke to cursed.
You did not want to look up. You did not want to see the look on Kylo’s face.
You could feel it.
Slowly, painfully, you lifted your gaze—and sure enough, Kylo was staring right at you through the side-view mirror. His shades hid his eyes, but you could feel the intensity. You wanted to die. Right then and there. Maybe if a semi hit your side of the car, you wouldn’t have to deal with this.
"You think you can squeeze us in for a tour?" Rey asked, completely oblivious to the catastrophe unfolding beside her.
Kylo nodded stiffly. "Yeah. Can do."
You forced yourself to look away as he ran a hand under his chin. He was definitely trying to read you. Or worse—he hated you now.
The Apartment Tour
The apartment manager was a man in his mid-forties—handsome, kind-eyed, and seemingly indifferent to your impending doom. Luckily, Rey and Luke were too occupied to notice the gaping chasm of awkward tension between you and Kylo.
"Okay, so this is the two-bedroom, two-bath unit," the manager said, motioning to the open floor plan. "Laundry, gym, pool, all on-site. Grocery store and shopping mall are five miles away. Feel free to look around."
You nodded. "Thank you—"
"Din," he introduced himself, offering a handshake. "Mr. Ren has been here for about…?"
Kylo took off his black sunglasses. "Two years. Good service."
Din nodded and left the group to explore. Rey and Luke wandered off to check the bedrooms while you lingered near the open-concept kitchen, hoping to avoid Kylo’s piercing gaze.
Like a shadow, he leaned against the fridge, folding his arms.
"DeathMajesty, huh?"
You exhaled sharply, closing the fridge door.
"Let’s not make this awkward, please," you muttered, rubbing your temples.
"I’m not making it awkward," Kylo retorted, furrowing his brows. "You’re the one being weird about it."
You stared at him, incredulous. "How am I the weird one?! You’re not even breaking a sweat!"
Kylo frowned, standing up straight.
"I am panicking internally, Y/N!" he whispered harshly. "My work—my job—is on the line! How long have you known? Are you going to blackmail me? Have you made a Reddit post about me? Or Twitter—ugh, X, or whatever the fuck that rat-hole is called?!"
You blinked at him as he ran a hand down his face in pure despair.
This was not the intimidating CEO you were used to. This was a very guilty man panicking about his dirty little secret.
And honestly? You weren’t sure if it was hilarious or terrifying.
"Oh my God! What do you want? How can I make this—" he motioned between the two of you, "go away? Do you want money? A salary boost?"
He yanked off his beanie and tossed it onto the counter, rubbing his face in frustration.
"Did you… did you tell Rey? Please tell me you didn’t."
You shook your head. "No. No way. I couldn’t do that to you. That’s your business."
His shoulders slumped in relief, exhaling heavily. "Oh, thank God. Have you told anyone at work?"
Your gaze met his nervous one as he cupped the back of his neck. He had worked so hard to keep his digital footprint invisible, and now? Someone at work knew. Someone he knew.
"No. Not a soul. I swear it," you answered firmly.
Kylo searched your eyes for any deceit but found none.
"Alright… I trust you," he said, his voice quieter now. "I… I’m willing to do whatever it takes for you to keep this between us."
His sincerity caught you off guard.
"Kylo, it’s not a big deal. I mean, I’m not judging you at all," you reassured him. "If anything, I’m the weirdo who pays for your audios."
Kylo shook his head dismissively, stopping you.
"Yeah, but I’m the CEO, Y/N. Do you understand how much trouble I could get into? I’m not saying your position isn’t important, but… I…"
His lips pressed into a thin line, his gaze shifting away in disappointment.
You understood. You really did. He had fought so hard against the trust fund baby allegations. He worked his ass off to prove he earned his position. He was one of the rare CEOs who actually acknowledged your work, who applauded it.
"I’ve tried so hard to keep that part of my life separate," he muttered, rubbing his temples. "And now here you are… someone I know. Someone I work with. Someone who listens to my moa—"
Kylo visibly recoiled, shutting his eyes in disgust.
"Oh God, I’m gonna pass out."
"Whoa, whoa, let’s not do that," you said, stepping closer in concern. "I get it. You have a lot to lose. But Kylo, it’s really not that crazy—"
Kylo’s eyes flicked open again. "Just tell me what I can do. Anything you want. A car, a fucking shopping spree, whatever—I’ll do it. Just don’t tell anyone. Please."
His hands landed on your shoulders, firm but not forceful. There was desperation in his voice, in his touch. A silent plea.
And yet…
A warmth stirred in your chest.
Because beneath the panic, beneath the anxiety, something else lingered in his expression. And you felt it too.
There was a beat of silence.
"Name anything. I’ll do—"
His eyes flickered to the apartment keys on the counter, then back to you. A decision clicked into place.
Your brows furrowed as he pulled out his phone. "Kylo, what are you—?"
He lifted a hand, stopping you, as he dialed someone.
"Hey, Din? Yeah, it’s Kylo. How soon is this apartment available?"
Your stomach dropped.
Oh, God.
"Kylo—!" you whispered urgently, grabbing his broad shoulder, but he ignored you.
"Yeah, I got two months’ rent ready to go," he said casually. "I’ll have the bank transfer it to you. Good. Thanks again."
Your jaw dropped as he ended the call.
"Now why would you do that?!"
"Because we’re even now," he said simply, slipping his phone back into his pocket. "You keep my secret, and I pay for the apartment."
Your brain short-circuited. "Kylo, what?"
His gaze softened. Kylo tilted his head slightly, studying you. His voice was lower now, softer.
"And I… I like you," he admitted. "Like, a lot. To the point where I’m talking way too much."
Your heart slammed against your ribs.
He was so straightforward—something you weren’t entirely used to.
This was the same voice you had listened to in the dark. The same voice that had whispered into your ears, made your breath hitch, made your body tremble.
But this was also the man who asked about your interests. Who wanted to explore your music. Who didn’t look at you like a fetish.
Maybe—just maybe—he had found a kindred spirit in you.
A/N: Finally here is a part 4! 2025 has been kicking my ass lately but I managed to finally sit down and write this out.
