I didn't read a ton in March -- between my birthday, attending SXSW Film (16 movies in one week!), and then getting over the cold I caught at SXSW -- and what I did read was mostly… Harry Potter fic? Yeah, I was surprised too. I've bookmarked only one fic in the last few years since JKR went off the transphobia cliff, so it was a bit strange, but I was pleased to see fandom is persisting in being aggressively queer and/or 'fuck canon' about it.

So I've got 1 Murderbot fic, 1 The Fugitive fic, and 5 Harry Potter fics, plus a handful more at Pinboard.

Although the temperature outside is shockingly high, I have already stepped into my autumnal state of mind. I can't think of a better fall activity than writing a Tumblr post with a list of books one can read while drinking a pumpkin spice-flavoured coffee while snacking on biscuits and listening to the rain.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie (or any other criminal novel, preferably read by night while covering yourself in your favourite blanket.)

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen (a brilliant parody of gothic novels and delusional teenage girls, perfect spooky vibes)

Dead Poets Society by N.H. Kleinbaum (gay teenagers study poetry under the most magnificent teacher in entire literature)

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (It's even more cringy than you remember it from your middle school years)

The Secret History by Donna Tartt (Obnoxious terrible characters study antiquity while losing themselves in the process)

If We Were Villains by M.L.Rio (The same as the Secret History but make it Shakespeare-obsessed theater kids).

Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone by Remus Lupin (A classic, as long as you don't live under a rock you've probably read it already, nonetheless it wouldn't be an autumn book list without this novel, although it's a love-the-franchise hate-the-author situation)

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo (This book will make you regret not being a posh kid who can afford to go to YALE, it makes the idea of joining a secret society extremely appealing).

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky (A broke law student kills a usurer, which is the beginning of an avalanche of disaster. Spoiler, The book ends with him becoming a catholic while dating an ex prostitute).

Little Women by L.M. Alcott (Watch Greta Gerwig's adaptation for an extra fall vibe, the book is wonderful as well. Makes me regret not having sisters).

Jane Eyre by the one and only Charlotte Bronte (Aka why romanticizing Victorian England is an indicator of idiocy).

Persuasion by Jane Austen (A novel that will gaslight you into believing that if you're twenty-seven your bloom is gone, you might as well never leave the house again if you're not married).

Frankenstein (This book freaks me out so much, it's gorgeously written.)

Macbeth (The moral of this drama is to never trust three witches you meet when strolling over Highlands).

Wuthering heights (I could write an entire essay about how superior Mr. Darcy is to Mr. Rochester, but Wuthering Heights still is one of the best novels I've ever read. The spooky vibes are immaculate, it made me want to travel to Haworth during fall).

The invisible life of Addie Larue (The first line of this book is a summarization of its plot, for the entire novel "A girl is running for her life.", However, we grow to love her in the process).

I'm sorry in advance for the person I'll become after drinking Pumpkin Spice Latte for the first time this year. Harry asks Sirius for girl advice and all Sirius can think about is his only real interactions were with Lily and their friends (memories severely degraded by Dementors as they were happy memories), his batshit relatives and the House of Black interactions should probably be studied by psychologists so all that would really do is scar the poor kid, some old schoolmates but the longest one he ever had (excluding accidentally killing that one kid but it’s not like student safety has ever been a concern at that school) was with that girl he was partnered with in Transfiguration way back when and he’s 78% certain that he read about her and her family being murdered by Death Eaters in the First War so he sure can’t write her for advice, and the female Death Eaters he was dueling but Sirius very sadly thinks that he’s pretty sure Harry’s not asking for fighting advice. Sirius is out of his depth here and sends Harry off to some Order members who feel attraction

He sends Harry to Remus first to help with the boy problems, and since Remus is extremely gay he is able to offer some advice, but then he sends Harry to Kingsley because Harry is a disaster bi just like his dad and so is Kingsley. Harry gets the advice he'd been looking for and ends up married to Luna 10 years later (because we do NOT marry our high school sweethearts in this household no sir) and give Sirius 3 grandkids the end.

Does anyone care what I read in April? Probably not. But I love reading so here are the books I read that I read last month, and which marauder I think would read them. (with little to no spoilers for the books.)

The Oleander Sword by Tasha Suri

I think James would buy this series, excited to see a South Asian fantasy, but it would be too slow paced and sad for him (He likes rom-coms guys!) . So he would give it to Lily who would love the flower imagery and stubborn lesbians.

Malice by Heather Walter

Dorcas obliviously. A Slytherin in a friend group of mostly Gryffindors, she would relate to Alice in being an outcast I think, also sharing her sneaky mischievous streak (and a thing for hot blonds).

Something Fabulous by Alexis Hall

James would love how chaotic this is. I do believe he would laugh out multiple times and telling Regulus everything that is happening as he reading. But would get second hand embarrassment on the waterfall scene and 'hungry flowers' (honestly who can read that with a straight face? no one!)

Something Spectacular by Alex Hall

Marlene, becuase again chaos but also like Peggy, Marlene is on board with gender is made up. Also like Peggy they are just gay disasters when around people they think are attractive.

The Stolen Throne By Holly Black

Pandora, she will read anything about fairies, you can't convince me otherwise. She has read this entire series, and has been reading Holly Black books since Spiderwick.

Hell Followed with Us by Andrew Joseph White

Sirius, Remus and Regulus would make a book club based on just this book.

The religious trauma and being raised in a toxic environment (Its a cult!) would shake Sirius to his core. The idea of realizing everything you that was normal isn't is something he would relate to. Also finding and building his own family. Oh, and all the gay rage.

Regulus would feel for Benjy turning into a monster against his will, becuase of choices made by someone who was supposed to love him? (THE DARK MARK COME ON!!)

Similarly, Remus would have a love/hate relationship with this book. I think reading as someone become a monster, while people praised them for it would remind him too much of Greyback's pack. But the rage that Benjy feels, Remus would understand on a molecular level. The idea of having people to protect and willing to protect him, while he struggles to not give into the thing inside of him. *chefs kiss*

(This was also my favorite book of the month)

Barty, he is not a big book guy, but he will listen to audiobooks while multitasking. It short, funny, with a lot sex. He would finish it in one day, then realize its the second book and grumble about reading it in the wrong order.

well if we arent strict on the someone part (one person i could pinpoint) changing my mind - ill say wolfstar. i wasnt shipping them initially when i first entered the fandom (tho it wasnt the english speaking fandom on tumblr or ff.net) and now its my whole personality. i had no idea it exists, or that its even a possibility to ship 2 men together (I was 12 with no critical thinking skills. i knew gay ppl exist but i didnt know its something that can exist in fiction too i guess?) and all the fics there were included sirius x marlene or sirius x dorcas. and one day i completely randomly stumbled upon this ship. and now, after all this time, im here.

aside from that - probably most ships that im into now that arent wolfstar - wolfstarbucks, wolfbucks, prongsfoot, lilypad and jilypad. I cant pinpoint who exactly introduced me to which ship tho - I just know that people in the fandom that I follow talk about those ships and i was like, i see the vision. similar thing in the case of non-marauders ships like Cedric, Fleur/Bill/Tonks or Fleur/Tonks - but here its more like, i dont really care about anyone thats not S or R and thats why i didnt consider any of those ships initially (but I've always liked Tonks).

idk if that counts but somebody (i wont say who. but in this case i can tell who that was) said they canNOT see remus x lily (or they could but it would be disaster for everyone) and that made me realise I could get into that ship too. so ill put it on the list <3

D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t.

I mentioned a couple times I ship prongsfoot, but what I meant is I see why people ship them, and I ship them when in polyships I mentioned, and I do consider Sirius being in love with James (so, unrequired prongsfoot) in most concepts/storylines - but i wish I could get fully into the actual ship bc i feel like this part of the fandom writes them more in characters, and is generally a nice place to be. But I also saw some ppl talk about prongsfoot and james cheating on lily or sth and i know i wont get into that (cheating just squicks me out i guess?)

(this kinda goes for most of my ships that arent my OTP, I think? I like them, but im not into them enought to consider them my OTPs and sometimes I wish I did)

Also femslash ships. I wish I was more into them, and I dont want to excuse or justify why i dont like many femslash ships (there is so much discourse in many fandoms about it and i really dont want to do that). Im just not into them that much - i like them, but i dont read or write just about them, and I wish I did (maybe I will someday). In the case of the marauders fandom - Im not into dorlene or marylily bc those characters (sans Lily) are basically fandom's OCs (and I love that the fandom looked at those characters that were mentioned once in the books and made them quite interesting too. but I dont really care about them bc they are neither S or R and also there is no canon of them for me to fall back to)

When I did a presentation about my fav ships I mentioned that I loved Steve Roger's arc in his first movie bc he went from "I dont want to kill anyone. I want to fight nazis bc I dont like bullies - I dont care where they come from" to "I'm not going to stop till all of Hydra is dead or captured" after he lost Bucky </3 (but thats just the first movie. and i still pretend endgame didnt happen. so) (also ive read metas that steve's arc was tied to saving/loosing bucky, and i love that from the shipping perspective)

Everyone in the Stranger Things fandom loves Steve Harrington's arc - he went from a background asshole jock to a heroic babysitter working minimum wage whose best friend is a lesbian - and now that he's a fan's favourite he's also most likely to die in the last season

I also read some posts/metas about Remus's arc and his nonlinear healing and learning to take on responsibility and I dont like most elements that his arc consists off but I do find it very interesting.
