sorry to bother but is there a, uh, story (pun not intended) behind the tag on the uncrustable. I can't tell if that's a serious tag or not.
Great question. Hey @wizardarchetypes why don't you tell the nice blogger why I might tag you in a beautiful painting of an uncrustable telling you not to look upon it. And meanwhile for no reason I will be looking for a beautiful painting of a pile of tantalizing pizza rolls

Mr Frog guy, what is the different between a frog & a toad?
This is probably the second most common question I receive, after "what's your favourite frog".
There is no difference, because this is a false dichotomy. It is not a comparison of equal categories. Toads are one of the ~55 frog families. Toads unequivocally are frogs.
If you want to know the difference between toads and some other family or clade of frogs, you would either have to be more specific, or identify features that are unique to toads—synapomorphies of Bufonidae. These are the differences between toads and all other frogs.
Synapomorphies of Bufonidae include the parotoid glands (but not present in all toads), some funky muscular arrangements, a weird bone in the skull, and the Bidder's organ, which is basically a backup ovary in male toads that allows them to become reproductively active females if their testes are damaged or removed surgically.
#frogs#toads#the more you know#anura#amphibians#zoology#herpetology#graphic design is my passion#answers by Mark#infographic#weepingwillows-sweethibiscustea#anon#anonymous#the list of countries without ANY frogs or toads of any kind is VERY short indeed#so Anon is either from Greenland or Iceland#or from a tiny or remote island somewhere#some lists say Qatar has no frogs but this is a lie#UAE has almost no frogs#but still some in some areas

#we love a family with a storied history of loving women and committing mass murder#wolf is a couple years older than she was in her original comic but still just as smitten with red#i dont intend on making it a habit to connect my comics together into a shared universe#but i did make ash with the internal headcanon that she was the kid of red and wolf#if only to justify elements of her design#the gravity defying hair - the control over fire - the commitment to a black/white/red colour scheme#i wont be doing a backstory for snow btw since she's kind of just. a human being who grew up very entitled and spoiled#although maybe during her undead journey she unknowingly comes across her mothers-in-law in the mountains#(they like to live in remote snowy areas)#red would like her#thats all!#thank you for reading#sapphic art#comic art#stillindigo art#hearteaters#stillindigo comics

what, by your own definition, would be the most romantic gesture your fav could possibly do for you?
#so as hashtag lover girl as i am I tend to really not like traditional romantic gesture#like literally anyone can buy me flowers and take me to dinner and do that shit but for me romance is in the dailies in the practical ways#that you know someone#the most romantic thing a person could do for me personally would be to know the little things that make my life easier#not to be a bath girlie on main but setting up my bath the way i like????? romance#cooking dinner when im very clearly over it??? romance#keeping me company even if its just sitting at the opposite ends of the couch and doing our own thing but touching each other somehow????#ROMANCE BABY!!!!!#tbh this is like the only area in life I’m remotely practical in

Notes on the World Map: Melini
I'm kind of annoyed the complete World Bible doesn't have a version of the World Map with Melini filled in... unless it does and I missed it, but I literally bought it and looked at the relevant pages for this post! Anyway, I think this is the closest we have. I'm looking at this and -- Kahka Brud literally doesn't have a coast anymore. No wonder they're pissed!! Any industry involving the sea, trade, fishing, etc. is basically impossible now - you'd have to get to the coastline on the west side of the continent. That's probably miles!
Speaking of miles... how big is Melini?
This is where I got... really unwell. So first off, let's assume the official Dunmeshi World Map is a Mercator projection. I think the stage cartography in the Dunmeshi universe is at, it's going to be most important that maps are useful for marine navigation. So we can't just drop an approximate scale onto the grid and leave it at that; we have to work out where the equator is.
The way I've done that is via two places that seem like they have a close(ish) real world equivalent - in terms of climate and culture - Utaya and the Island of Wa (Toshiro's home). The Island of Wa is obviously Japan, and I've seen plausible arguments that Utaya is probably a climate/location similar to Nepal.
So, here's the (approximate) location and latitude of those places on a Mercator map of Earth:
If we arbitarily superimpose the two maps, asssuming they're the same size, we can draw a theoretical equator line that puts the two places at the same latitude, though on a different side of the equator. Putting them on the same side as Earth made the equator really low. I feel like that's ... unlikely, so we're going with this.
That puts Melini at a rough latitude of .. ~55? which would, using the same scale as the previous map, make two squares (at that latitude) about 600 miles. Very roughly calculating the size as given on the map based on that, that gives a width of (approximately) 250 miles and a length of 400, coming in at a bit less than 100,000 miles² due to the shape. Probably it's between the sizes of the UK and Aotearoa.
That really helps me visualise what Laios is working with here when I think about post-canon. Though I reckon what I've done here is "Just enough research to really annoy an expert". Sorry if you're that expert. I really don't know much about cartography <3 It's like that xkcd comic:
On distances, as someone who lives in the UK; with a car, you can get almost anywhere in a day if you're prepared to drive until late. But they don't have cars, so getting from one end to the other would take multiple days of travel. It'd take about 7 days to walk the approx "length", 400~ miles (from the top of Scotland to Liverpool) (according to Google Maps) and 2 days cycling, so probably 3-5 days with horses, depending on how you pushed them. That'd vary a bit depending on terrain, of course.
#og post#dungeon meshi#dunmeshi#world map notes#dungeon meshi meta#melini#if anyone DOES have the knowledge to work this out better than i have#please do! please tell me the answer!#but i just couldn't rest until i had an approximate area to work with#when i'm imagining the characters dealing with administration of remote territory#populating and partioning out land; crop failures and ensuring central storage of grain and other staples; collecting taxes and so on#kahka brud is literally a port. this is such a diplomatic nightmare. lmao. not even getting started on the monsters!#good luck with that kabru honey#dungeon meshi manga spoilers#dunmeshi spoilers

I'm in the hamburger mines of capitalism and found out that my job is planning to try and outsource my position to remote randos across the country and I'm like. CEO-boy do you have any idea how many regulations I have to take into account not just on a state-level but also on a county and municipality level. None of which is information included in the training.
This isn't even a case where someone would fuck it up just cuz it's complex to get right, this is a case where someone wouldn't even know what they don't know. And it's a lot of information to not know they don't know, because these poor remote guys are going to be covering a bunch of states with finicky and ultra-specific building codes, not even just my own!
Anyways wish my store a very Rest in Piss when this comes back to extremely bite them in the ass, because it's gonna be funny as fuck.
#Like boiiii#I cannot explain how badly this is gonna go.#Like having a $15/hr position have to read the building codes of every state#and look into the regulations of the area every single one of their customers is in#when they're having a bigger workload than even I have....#this isn't just gonna be a clusterfuck where people's wallets and homes are tied up#this is also going to be EXTREMELY unfair to the remote workers themselves#because my job has outright stated that the position IS a downgrade/demotion for people on my position who wanna swap#so it's like. cool. you're setting them up to fail AND giving them more work AND paying them less.#asshole move!!!!#personal

This is old but it's sort of related to my post about pregnancy being a part of religion.
A priest in the remote mountaintops, who doesn't serve a specific town or village per say, but a very sparsely populated region. There's been an abnormally high amount of demonic activity in the area for several years now, and his messages requesting assistance from the clergy in the larger towns and cities have been met with false platitudes at best.
He's getting older and he's had no luck in recruiting a trainee and successor in his state. The people of the mountains, though grateful for all he's done for them, are suspicious and reluctant to take the same fate and duty on themselves.
Always gravid with multiple exorcised demons, being remade and reformed by his holy vessel, it's exceedingly difficult to navigate the windy and often narrow mountain passes to answer calls for help. But it is rare for him to turn down the pleas of his people, even though it makes his life (and journey back home) more and more difficult each time it happens.
It's not uncommon for him to have managed to get down to a more reasonable size, answer a call for help, get stopped in passing by other folk along the journey there and back, and return home over 3x the size than when he started the trip. There have been a few times when he's overestimated his abilities and is left unable to make the journey home. His parishioners have no problem rallying to assist their priest, to get him to his home and church so that he may wait to labor and birth, whether by wagon, cart, mule, or leaning on the strongest among them for support.
When the time finally comes to give birth, under his church there is a pool, with candles in the many alcoves, only lit when he feels his time nearing. It is a ritual made more difficult by the squirming brood in his hallowed womb, all in different stages of renewal, as the contractions squeeze away what little space is left. As the only priest of his church, he does this alone, with only the candles to hear his cries and groans. The relieving waters of the pool his midwife and the knotted silks hung from the low ceiling his only hand to hold through the hours of sacred labor.
#it seems that something/someone keeps tormenting this remote mountain area just bc they like to see this old man stay knocked up as possible#im also genuinely really proud of the lighting on this one still it took me a while and it was so worth it#mpreg#my art#mpreg art#preg art#mpreg belly#preg belly#cw religion#pregnant priest#demon pregnancy

Some of the "Life in Early Ohio" fashion show in front of the Fort Meigs monument, showing a variety of working class and upper middle-class settler clothing of the early 19th century.
I love that the local reenactment group is so enthusiastically into researching historical fashion and sewing reproduction garments—which you would think would be the case with all historical reenactors, but that wasn't my experience with a WWI group years ago.
In the top picture a man wears a hunting frock at far left, and the other gentleman wears a round hat with dancing shoes. They were adamant on the term round hat as being more period correct than "top hat", and I think they're probably right since that's the term I've seen for Royal Navy midshipman hats in the same time period.
The woman presenting the fashion show noted that there is a contemporary drawing of Daniel Boone depicting him in a round hat, NOT a "dead animal on his head" lmao. (I appreciated the shots fired at coonskin caps.)
The woman second from left in the second photo has put on her spencer jacket to show the military influence on civilian women's fashion: compare the tape decoration with the coatee of the soldier standing next to her.

My best friend and I moved in together with his closest friend from his MA program, and while I had met her before (the friend; my bff is a man), we hadn't spent much time together because I've never lived away from the West Coast (and only two years out of the PNW) and she's never lived outside of North Carolina and only briefly visited the PNW once, when she went to Portland last year.
It's been a delight to show her around the PNW and realize we need to explain things that are just sort of omnipresent in our lives. The bff and I were casually griping with each other about having to run an errand to Trader Joe's at an inconvenient hour, and were telling her, "it's okay, you can stay in the car and avoid the people if you want" and she was like "NO I MUST SEE IT, I'VE ONLY HEARD OF THEM" and nearly ascended to another plane when we showed her around the store.
The bff and I grew up in the same town in NW Washington (him for his first 18 years, me from 9 to 19) and he lived in Bellingham and Seattle for years before he went to NC for grad school (I went to the SF Bay Area for mine, a very different experience). Both of them are hardcore coffee aficionados, but he struggled with the different Coffee Ways of the South, so for the true PNW experience they want to tour various indie coffeeshops next.
Also, she adores Kaidan in Mass Effect and we were like, oh, is your passport up to date? We could take a trip sometime and show you your boyfriend's beloved English Bay. It's very beautiful :)
her: O_O
me: Actually, it's worth going to Vancouver BC for its own sake as well, it's truly spectacular. We used to go all the time as kids.
bff: And Victoria!
her: O_O
#as much as i very openly love my homeland (read: the pnw. sometimes the whole west coast) at all times#it is truly special to experience it through someone who's never lived anywhere remotely near here. she's never seen vegas or seattle or la#we were super hungry after moving stuff yesterday and the bff was like 'i'm not sure i have a real restaurant in me...#let's just pick up some stuff from jack in the box'#her: 'what's a jack in the box?'#even the department store chains we're used to are different#also she's queer and was concerned about having queer friendly dating options out here and we're like '...oh sweetie'#and since she's from eastern nc we were also explaining that the pacific ocean up here is not like the atlantic#her: 'what are your hurricanes like?' us: '... we um. don't really have them'#then we were like... i mean rainier's lahars are going to melt seattle someday but these are infrequent events#and there will be seismic warnings. even mt st helens gave some warning!#i think the only disappointment for her so far was our building codes (she's very into proper infrastructure)#the roads are nice but our buildings are not designed for combating nature by her standards#it's interesting because we're so unused to the idea of nature as generally something to combat#in fairness someone from say astoria might think about that differently or in very rural areas. but in the parts we're familiar with#usually 'natural' dangers are 'poorly timed human fuckery' and things like rain generally come as friends#like yeah don't go antagonizing a bear or cougar or moose or whatnot but you'd really have to go out of your way#anghraine babbles#cascadia blogging#the adventures of space redacted#anghraine's gaming#us american blogging#i should probably have a bff tag#long post
