Kokichi pulls out his phone, sending a text to Tenko.
Kokichi: U were tricked babe <3
Kokichi: Mommy didnt kill ur gf
Kokichi: Good try tho <3
And almost instantly, Tenko returns. He was awake during there?!
Event: Killing Game
As your muse regained consciousness in a room they didn't recognize, they felt a pit in their stomach at the strange scenario. After they made their way to the courtyard of what seemed to be a mansion, they saw a group of seventeen people, one of whom being especially notable.
"Welcome one, welcome all! Everyone here knows the rules of this Killing Game, yes? Kill, find the culprit, and Punishment Time, per usual! Puhuhuhuhu~! How despair-inducing! Which of you is fit to be my heir~? Only one survives, only the one with the strongest talents will have everything! And the ones who fail? In waking life, you shall be punished!"
"Kyaaa...! A Killing Game...?! Again...?! How... wonderful...!" the ecstatic voice of Tsumugi Shirogane squealed out in ecstasy.
What will you do?

hello!!! i just stumbled across your resurgence au (i think that's the name lol) and it looks super cool!!!! :OOO may i ask what is maki's whole deal,,,i love her a lot :3
It's Maki time!
So in Resurgence, like the rest of the V3 cast, Maki is saved from the simulation by Future Foundation. I've touched on this in a few older posts, but their recovery took place in a hastily thrown together field base/hospital in a city that's still pretty deep in despair. It was a matter of not being able to get transport in for everyone right away - they had a set date for the helicopters to come for them all.
By unfortunate coincidence (coincidence, huh) - the day the helicopters come, the hospital is bombed by a Despair mob. They weren't so happy with their show being cancelled by stupid teenagers (THH was streamed to the world, then despair audiences kinda gutted and reverse engineered the Neo World Program after the Remnants were restored to their og personalities, I'd say it's probably because of the brainwashed Future Foundation members that it got out to the world - so yeah "Danganronpa" is a "TV" show in that regard, but its not how the V3 ending explains it)
Maki was in a separate wing from most of the others when the bombs went off, and her escape route ended up on the side where the mob was gathered (a lot of the others got around the mob by going out other exits) - So Maki has to fight her way to safety, and unfortunately, she misses out on the helicopter evacuation.
Now, Maki can take care of herself. She might not be Ultimate Apocalypse Survivor, but she has the training to patch wounds, adapt to harsh conditions, and defend herself. So she's doing about as fine as one can in a city that's basically an active war zone.
Then Kaede shows up.
Honestly, I'm not sure why I chose Kaede, I really wanna explore that dynamic but haven't gotten around to it yet - I think their personalities would blend and butt against each other in a situation like this, it's like a hardcore setting for the killing game with no rules. Kaede was with Future Foundation as a field agent, but her squad got separated during an attack (they were probably looking for the missing V3 cast) - Funnily enough Kaito, Tenko, and Shuichi were on that squad so - yikes on missing them.
So now it's Maki and Kaede vs the world!
Until Kaede's radio starts unscrambling itself and picking up Future Foundation communications again - but they can't reply it seems. The signal seems to fade in and out each time they leave this district, maybe they should investigate, right?
... Oh hi Kokichi and Kiibo!
---
That's about as far as I've gotten in the general aspect of Maki's arc! I could go into detail about points up until now, but this post is already getting long on me. There will be bonding, there will be old scores to settle, there will be... forgiveness? Well, it's too early to say. I think the four of them are an interesting squad to shove into the apocalypse together, especially knowing the later game dynamics of Kokichi, Kiibo, and Maki, and me basically having to figure out Kaede and if the blank slate of her not being around for most of V3 is something that helps them all get along or complete ruins the dynamic at moments.

assorted 408 thoughts
When I first saw this sequence of panes, I thought, wildly and hopefully, that’s Shigaraki Tomura. That could be Shigaraki Tomura, someone who holds the quirk All For One and who, despite everything, is kind.
*
It reminds to be seen if Shigaraki Tomura can be stopped. As Deku says himself in Chapter 406, he still haven't come up an answer yet.
Since his first appearances, Shigaraki Tomura is infamous for being childish, talking about fights and battles as if he was playing video games. He's matured since then and his game metaphors have lessen in quantity, but his enjoyment of video games is still significant to his character.
But Shigaraki Tomura is also the one who created the League of Villains, a haven for outcasts and misfits. Twice considers the League the only place he belongs. Toga found life easier to live while with Shigaraki and others. The League is home to it's members, because Shigaraki made it that way.
Part of that is because Shigaraki Tomura is considerate of his teammates feelings and desire. This is core to Shigaraki - even as a child, he went out of his way to befriend those left behind, to include the children no one else wanted to play with. Underneath the layers of bitterness and rage caused by society's rejection, Shigaraki is still someone who cares a lot:
*
One thing I really like about the new chapter is that All For One kept Yoichi's severed hand.
Why? Who knows. All For One isn't allowed any real human emotions by the story. But still - All For One kept a severed hand, a memento of a lost one and whatever significance is embedded in that; it's evidence of what he's done - killed his brother - and a symbol of his new purpose - to hunt down the other remnant of Yoichi.
Years later, he would do the same for Shimura Tenko, when he gives the boy the hands of the slaughtered Shimura family. And he intends for them to have the same meanings and purposes - for Shimura Tenko to remember the massacre, and for that memory to spur him onward.
That AFO repeats this gruesome gesture with Tenko, essentially reproducing the same horror he experienced onto the boy who he intends to be his heir. This recontextualizes The Hands a bit - instead of just what seemed to be a sort of unique psychological torment imposed out of revenge against Shimura Nana's descendant, it's also AFO just raising Tomura after himself. It's still a incredibly fucked up cruelty, don't get me wrong, but now it feels less because specifically Shimura, and more because AFO wanted an successor that mirrors himself, down to the same traumatic trappings.
*
But of course, Shigaraki Tomura still greatly resembles Yoichi.
Overall, this panel of Yoichi does closely resembles the panel of Shigaraki from Chapter 221. Just— everything from the angle of the face and the direction of their gaze, to the position of the hand.
But based on Yoichi’s expression - the eyes, the slight smile, the whole demeanor - my first thought went to Shigaraki in Chapter 148, when he was telling Toga and Twice that he believes in them.
This is Shigaraki, revealing his face to Toga and Twice, when in the previous panels, it had seemed like he was insensitively ordering them around, without consideration for their feelings, telling them to work with Overhaul who had just murdered their friend Magne. But once the hand comes off - voluntarily, for the first time, facing them straightforwardly - we see a look that convey a lot of things - Shigaraki's resolve in taking down Overhaul, his trust in Twice and Toga, his sincerity in what he's saying. It's Shigaraki with probably his kindest expression in the entire manga.
It parallels the context somewhat too - in Yoichi panels, it had look at first like he was despondent, sad and weak, lamenting that he dependent and was unable to do anything against the evil that was his brother. But instead, with the face reveal, we're seeing Yoichi's own indomitable will and kindness, so much that he still sees the hopeful possibilities of All For One's power.
Both are victims of All For One, but both have always kept their strong sense of self and core sense and desire for kindness and justice.
*
If you ask me what AFO and OFA combined would look like, I have to say: Shigaraki Tomura.
#Shigaraki Tomura#Shigaraki Yoichi#Yoichi#All For One#One For All#bnha#mha#heroaca#nalslastworkingbraincell#don't mind me#i'm just back on my 'Shigaraki Tomura as best character ever' bullshit

This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, places, events and incidents are either the products of the author's imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.

"Oh... Unafraid, are you, degenerate male?"
Dam and Usami had woken up in a dark room. The room was stone, but somehow unbreakable by even Mono strength. They were both shackled at the wrists together in large, thick, metal chains, also unbreakable. Standing around them were sixteen figures they knew very well... especially one.
Kokichi: "Welcome~."
- @smiles-and-scars
"Hi Remnant."
"Not again Not again Not again Not Again not again NOT AGAIN!" *Usami was already in panic mode.* @smiles-and-scars

There was another post about how cool it would be to have Danganronpa characters turn evil, but NOT as more Remnants of Despair, like evil of their own accord without Junko's influence, and even though it veered off in a totally different direction that doesn't match what I had in mind, I fuck with the concept so very much.
Give me the dark sides of their talents. I want to see people cowering over Nekomaru's overbearing presence. I want to see Byakuya taking over an entire country and ruling it like 1984. Ibuki using her aggressively catchy music to spread propaganda with Sayaka on the assist. Kokichi knowingly leading whatever heroes there are into disaster while he escapes cleanly every time. Tsumugi and Imposter using their respective talents to impersonate important figures and orchestrate catastrophe. Suichi and Kyoko stealing enemy secrets to bring to Sonia and her army. Rantaro surviving for days and days while tracking down rebels to help Mukuro and Maki eliminate them. Fuyuhiko and his Clan bringing captured out-of-liners into seclusion for Peko, Tenko, and Korekiyo to deal with. Teruteru hiding poison in food. And, of course, Kirumi conducting everything behind the scenes while still living under the guise of a tender and loyal maid.
Seriously, with the prowess 77-B shows in DR3 alone, you ever think about how lucky it is that nearly every known Ultimate has chosen to use their powers for noble purposes?

Another AU where Izuku kept his powers
In the aftermath of the War, Izuku has a dream.
He's in a crumbling version of the One for All realm. He spots a faint form of Yoichi in the distance and runs to it. The Vestige informs him that once Izuku's embers disappear, the realm will collapse on itself. Izuku realizes this will mark the end of his dream and grieves, but Yoichi reassures him that it's not the end, that the journey is just beginning.
The first half of the final chapter is the same as in canon: Izuku has become a teacher and his schedule is now pretty different from his former classmates', but they're all fighting for a better world in their own ways. Izuku himself has become a pioneer of Quirkless rights, using his status and hero work to showcase Quirkless discrimination and promote accessibility.
As he walks to an unknown destination after leaving UA for the day, he runs into future hero hopeful Dai, who recognizes him from his advocacy. The kid reveals he's Quirkless and thanks him for giving him the courage and motivation to pursue heroism. Izuku hopes to see him in his class soon.
Izuku arrives at the place he was walking to, revealing it to be a party commemorating the end of the War, with all his classmates present. Between scenes discussing the past and current state of affairs, such as Mineta being arrested soon after his debut and Aizawa's return to full-time hero work, Izuku recalls the dream he had after the War ended.
After Yoichi told Izuku One for All would disappear with his embers, he also revealed that Tenko transferred through his fist bump to Izuku the only thing that survived from All for One's destruction: the stockpiling quirk he had forced on Yoichi all those years ago. This has allowed him to linger for long enough to inform Izuku that his embers are transforming into a new Quirk, a combination of the remnants of One for All and the stockpiling quirk that is wholly, uniquely Izuku's.
The party is interrupted by an alert from the HPSC, informing all heroes available of a landslide that requires immediate aid. Izuku suits up and heads out with everyone to the emergency, using his Quirk to get there faster. Although he laments not being able to transfer it, he revels in the exhilaration it gives him, and thinks of the people who have helped him get to this point while he sees Tenko's ghost. His final character introduction reads:
Midoriya Izuku
Quirk: Stockpile.

So... Who be this?
The answer is probably some sort of remnant of Tenko, rather unfortunately. As I've said before a few times, I'm one of the few people who believes that Shigaraki dying - and more importantly, dying while continuing to hold onto his beliefs and goals - is one of the sparse genuinely good plot moments the manga has had in a long time. I've stated it many times, my thoughts on how Tomura Shigaraki isn't necessarily supposed to be a redeemable character, his story is more about finding his footing and growing from a pathetic manchild into a legitimate threat. He's said numerous times before that he doesn't care about societal reform, that's more Compress and Spinner's forte. He just wanted to destroy, and he went to the grave refusing to let go of those ideals. It's a surprisingly strong piece of character writing that is somewhat diminished if he just returns as Tenko.
Now, a theory I saw that I really liked is that this isn't meant to be anybody in particular. He isn't Tenko or Toya or any previously-seen character. He's not even meant to be much of a character in and of himself. He's more of a representative than anything else. He's a new Tenko, so to speak; Even after everything, there are still people out there who either have been or feel like they have been wronged by the world, people left wandering the ruins without any support. Ultimately, nothing was really addressed outside of punching the bad guys until they stopped moving, and this refusal to budge or reevaluate anything for hero society will inevitably result in more Tomura Shigarakis popping up; Not literally, but more people who share his beliefs, his rage at the world. It's an extremely grim thought, and that's why it definitely isn't what's actually going on, not to mention the fact that it relies on a significant portion of the somewhat weak writing of the previous arc being intentional, but I really like the idea regardless.

you don't have to respond to this if you don't want to, but--I saw you mentioning you felt stupid earlier and I'm going through the same feelings myself but I just wanted to say that your analysis of my hero academia was genuinely the best I'd ever seen after following the comic for almost an entire decade(I've been here since almost the beginning...). it's not your fault if the writing took a bizarre turn, you were correctly recognizing things about the story that was presented to you and I've really appreciated your presence ever since the first time I read one of your posts.
Thank you for your kind words, they really helped me feel better. I always enjoy reading your thoughts as well, so I hope you are able to feel better soon as well.
At any rate, I think I'm a bit calmer now-- At the risk of setting myself up for more heartbreak in two weeks, I really think there's no way for it not to be a fake out because Tenko dying sincerely is a failure on every level for so-so-so many characters and the story as a whole. Izuku wanted to redefine OFA as a power meant for saving not killing, yet OFA ends up killing Tenko anyway? We get a scene where the main villain literally mocks Tenko for having never been his own person and commands him to disappear, and he does?? Nana ultimately fails to save her family from AFO a third and final time??? The Yoichi expy is ultimately forced to die while tethered to his abuser and is never allowed to truly escape or live a life outside of AFO???? Spinner pushes himself to his absolute limit and Kurogiri sacrifices himself because they both want to save Tenko, and it ends up being all for nothing????? Toshinori never gets any resolution with his beloved mentor's sole remaining family and has to live with the pain of once again failing to save her legacy?????? Tenko wants to become a hero to the villains, to the LOV specifically, but dies while all of them are literally hanging on by a thread at this time???????? Gran Torino was right??????????? There's bittersweet endings and there's bleak endings, and this is absolutely bleak if true.
Like, I know death and rebirth are huge themes in MHA-- but this is a case where the overall build up and execution of the chapter has left much to be desired. Still, the fact that Tenko says the name "Shigaraki Tomura" in quotation marks in the raw text does lend to the idea that this is actually the death of his villain persona rather than the death of the individual-- my other big concern rn is how Tenko's rebirth will ultimately be executed, since he still asks Izuku to pass a message along to Spinner on his behalf. Like..... a resurrection that has him losing his memories of his life as Tomura, or reverting back to his young "untraumatized" self, obviously feels wrong for entirely different reasons-- but this is just speculation atp and I don't wanna get worked up over smthing that hasn't happened yet.
Tenko's ""death"" also shares explicit parallels to both Toshinori's and Katsuki's brushes with death, so I do think Hrkshi could make things come full circle in a satisfying way here-- if Tenko's death is the only one that actually sticks while the heroes are allowed to defy all odds and resurrect/be reborn as the best possible versions of themselves, then obviously there's no salvaging the story. But I wanna have faith.
(Side note: Tenko/Toshi/Katsuki's (and even Touya's) limbo scenes depict them as surrounded by light and "sharing" that infinite space with someone who sincerely wants them to live-- and these scenes are starkly contrasted with AFO's limbo scenes, where his moments before death all depict as him being surrounded by darkness while being mocked by the vestiges of his victims.)
Anyway!!! At my own peril, I'll be leaning hard into the "Tenko Shimura: Rising + quirk awakening + aura!might using his vestige and the remnants of OFA to fill in the gaps of the broken reconstruction quirk (thereby fulfilling Izuku's wish to turn OFA into a power that exists to save while also helping Tenko symbolically embrace that he has the power to do more than just destroy-- he can save the villains through creation, not destruction)" theories from this point forward.
#Hopefully everyone else will also feel a little better with time#if anything I'm kind of?? happy that so many people are dissatisfied and demanding better for tomura/tenko#i feel like the general fandom's reception to him respawing will be less divisive this way (/delusional)#sophie.txt#mha spoilers#ty for the ask!!!

Dr. Kuse Files: Tenko Shimura
Patient: Shimura, Tenko
Parent Quirks: Father: Unknown Mother: Unknown
Potential Names: Rot, Decay, Disintegrate
Awakening Incident: Unknown. Subject was found wandering the streets and was brought in by the local heroes.
Observations: Subject has the ability to break down matter whenever all five of his fingers come into contact with it. Objects under the effect of the Quirk start to become brittle and break down into gray dust. This spread is slow, but absolute. I have yet to find a substance that withstands it. The Quirk seems to work on the atomic level, breaking down the atomic bonds of a target, hence why objects become so fragile before turning into dust. As long as the subject remains in contact with it, it will slowly continue to spread until it is destroyed.
The Quirk has a far more violent reaction to living targets. Instead, they seem to burst out of the target, leaving a visceral mess behind. Subject has a concerning lack of control over the effect. He cannot decide whether or not the effect is active, and he cannot halt the effect once it is active. I experienced both firsthand when the subject brushed against my arm. This is where I learned that amputation of the affected area can halt the spread of the decay, yet it cannot halt the effect of regenerative abilities. I hope the subject didn't see that.
Subject is almost certainly a deviation. The caliber of the Quirk, the condition of his body, and the concerning situation in which he was found imply a grizzly manifestation. It is unlikely that he will ever grow to control the Quirk and its erratic nature makes it difficult to train. The subject is lucky his power requires all five fingers to make contact. This is likely some in-built safety feature, preventing accidental usage of the Quirk. The subject has odd drying around the body as well. The exact nature of these is uncertain but may be related to the Quirk.
Recommendations -Proper guardianship should be found immediately. I fear what would happen in an orphanage. Either foster parents or experts with who have experience with troubled Quirks should be sought out. -The use of gloves is paramount to the safety of the child and everyone around him. They should be kept on at all times, even when he is sleeping, in case of an accident. -Given the lack of information on the parental Quirks, finding the any kind of remnant of the family is key. For some reason, finding anything on his family is more difficult then it has any right to be. -Counseling is required for the subject as he already repressing the events of his awakening. This may lead to a development of self-hatred, but I believe that he could be helped with the right guidance.
