ᴀ ʜᴀᴘᴘʏ ʙᴇɢɪɴɴɪɴɢ ɴᴏᴡ ɪꜱ ᴏᴜʀꜱ...
❝ there's no storm we can't outrun, we will always find the sun, leave the past and all its scars [...] ; if we're facing endless night, take my hand and join the fight, past the clouds we'll find the stars... ❞ — cast of once upon a time
notes: these wedding headcanons are part of our @briarvalleyarchives wedding event! it was super fun brainstorming how weddings would be in the characters' homelands. used my own experience of german customs for vil's, for leona i checked out some kenyan wedding traditions and lion king lore! hope you guys like these ♡
contains: wedding headcanons, character x gn!reader
characters: malleus, vil, azul, leona
warnings: some blood in malleus's (pricking your finger)
You were a little nervous, when the day had finally come for Queen Maleficia to introduce you to her kingdom's people as Prince Malleus's fiance. News that the heir to the throne of Briar Valley was getting married travelled very far very quickly, and that despite the lack of modern technology. But contrary to your fears and extensive list of worst case scenarios, you were well-received as Malleus's beloved and your prince was more than excited about the upcoming wedding.
According to Briar Valley traditions, both of your wedding attire is going to be black, as it is the royal color of the Draconia family. Nevertheless, neither the queen nor the people will mind you having a little color on your otherwise black clothing, symbolizing how you were not native to your beloved's kingdom; yet your union made you a part of fae society nonetheless, regardless of your origins.
The wedding venue is deep in the forest and has been in preparation by the castle staff for months. Malleus and you are to be wed under a floral arbor, decorated with roses from Malleus's garden.
On the day of the ceremony, butterflies and fireflies surround the venue and rose petals are scattered across it.
You're waiting under the arbor as the queen leads Malleus down the aisle, guided by small forest fae who were chosen as the ring bearers. They carry a small wooden basket with local plants of Briar Valley and the rings are placed upon them. Halfway through, Queen Maleficia lets go of her grandson's arm and lets him walk the rest of the way to you on his own, symbolizing her trust in him to walk his own path from here on out and a new part of his life beginning. You can see a soft smile on her face that is only seen from the usually so serious and stern queen on rare occasions. The guests are assembled at the side of the venue, watching you unite under the arbor and giving you their blessings.
You and Malleus exchange your vows. He takes your hands into his as he speaks to you. "I have to confess that when I met you, I was inexperienced and still had so much to learn about this world. But sharing these experiences with you, exploring what lies beyond the borders of my home by your side, were some of the happiest moments of my life and I still have no doubt that they marked the beginning of something even more grand to come", Malleus's expression was so loving and soft, but you could also tell how giddy and excited he was feeling inside, "just by being there, you brought so much color and vibrance into my life and made me look at the world through different eyes. From the moment we met, I never wanted to lose you and now I promise to you to stay by your side forever, if you allow me. I love you dearly and with all my heart."
Malleus listens attentively to your vows and his heart beats faster when he hears them. He's definitely tearing up.
In remembrance of the Thorn Fairy, it is custom in Briar Valley to prick your finger on a thorn to sign the wedding certificate. Malleus heals the cut with his magic immediately, so there's no need to worry.
Next you shall be crowned as part of the royal family. Every member of the Draconia family receives a custom-made crown. You have a say in deciding how it looks and Malleus hasn't actually seen it until he gets to place it on top of your head at the ceremony. Before doing so, he kisses the dragon markings on your forehead or the skin where they should be, if you had them, and you do the same with him. Malleus smiles as he feels your lips on his markings, taking your hand into his once more and squeezing it gently. You know him too well not to be aware that he's basically itching to pull you into a kiss.
Malleus and you exchange rings and are pronounced newlyweds. "You may kiss-"
Malleus's lips are already on yours before that sentence is even finished. He kisses you deeply and lovingly and holds you tightly in his arms. He doesn't let go of you just yet even after the kiss has ended, hugging you closely and nuzzling your temple.
It is said that the marriage is sealed with true love's kiss.
The eldest fairies in the royal court bestow their magic blessings on you. How effective these actually are? You're not sure, but you're willing to be surprised.
The wedding reception is held in Malleus's rose garden and the guests are reduced to the royal court, both of your family members, friends and the closest noble associates to the Draconia family.
Bowls with flowers as well as twigs decorate the tables at the reception and fairy lights adorn the rose garden.
Traditional Briar Valley folk music plays as you and your guests dance the night away.
Vil and you ring in your wedding celebrations with a "Polterabend", as is typical in the area of the Shaftlands that Vil lives in. This custom is held on the night before the wedding. The guests bring porcelain, but also commonly flowerpots and ceramics to the party that are later smashed onto the ground, supposedly to bring good luck to the couple.
A barbecue is held to provide food for the guests. Vil made sure there's lots of salads and grilled vegetables as well to provide enough variety of foods. Lively chatter can be heard at the tables between your family members and friends as drinks are served.
This gathering is used as an opportunity to accept well-wishes from acquaintances, co-workers and people who aren't able to come to the actual wedding. They stop by for a while to give wedding cards and small gifts to you and Vil. This includes your former classmates from NRC.
"Epel, I swear to the Seven, this is your grandmother's antique tableware, don't you dare", Vil scolds his Pomefiore underclassman as the porcelain smashing ceremony is about to begin. "Are you kidding me, this is the literal point of this evening", Epel pouts. Vil also has to stop Ace from smashing a whole mirror. "Did you never hear about smashing a mirror meaning 7 years of bad luck?", Vil sighs. "Aw, come on, let them have their fun for the night", you chuckle. Vil raises his eyebrows at you. "If we end up cursed, it's your fault."
The actual wedding ceremony happens on the next day at the registry office. You greet your guests in front of the building and provide them with champagne and juice to toast to your marriage. The guests take their seats and eagerly await the beginning of the ceremony. You and Vil have decided to walk in together. One of your guests sings a love song with a piano accompaniment as you two enter and take your seats in front of the registrar's desk. Vil's dad is tearing up as he sees you walk in to the slow music.
You and Vil exchange vows. "Y/n... I have met plenty of people who have said that there's hardly one who understands beauty better than I do. But you proved to me that there were things I had yet to see and understand about the beauty surrounding me", Vil smiles at you and takes your hand into his, "your love made me see a new kind of beauty in this world and just like the radiance of the Beautiful Queen, our love, too, will shine on eternally. I cherish every day we spend together and I know that I can count on you to be there through the good times and the bad. And I promise that I will stay by your side and love you more with every year that passes. I will be there for you whenever you need me. I love you with all my heart."
You exchange rings (Vil's own design) and the registrar makes your marriage official. Vil seals his promise with a kiss. His kiss is soft and doesn't last very long, but you know he's saving the passionate kisses for later.
The guests congratulate you for your union and you leave the building, getting into the car that has been specifically rented for the occasion and decorated with flowers. With your guests behind you, you drive to the reception, hearing them honk their car horns in celebration of your wedding. "I just know we're interrupting some poor soul's afternoon nap", Vil sighs and chuckles.
A log has been placed in front of the entrance of your wedding reception, resembling the first obstacle you and Vil have to overcome as newlyweds. Vil's father hands you the saw to cut it as per tradition. "Hold on, I need to get my gloves", Vil gets his gloves from the car and you chuckle at how on brand this was for him. God forbid Vil Schoenheit breaks a nail on his wedding day. But since Vil is pretty physically strong, the two of you saw through the log rather quickly. "Magnifique!", Rook exclaims and starts clapping.
As the wedding reception you picked an elegant ballroom that reminds you a lot of Pomefiore during your school years. Carefully designed flower bouquets decorate the tables.
You and Vil sit down at the forefront of the tables where all your guests are able to see you. Before the buffet is opened, one of you holds a speech, thanking the guests for the gifts and their attendance and telling the story of how you met and fell in love. Vil's father and optionally, your closest family members, hold speeches as well to express their joy about your union.
After everyone has finished dinner, you share your first dance on the ballroom floor. Vil being Vil, has actually practiced this dance with you for a while before the wedding. Still, even if you'd step on his foot today, he's too happy to care. A slow song plays as you seem to only have eyes for each other for as long as your waltz lasts.
Once your dance concludes, you open the dancefloor to your guests as well to dance with their partners, friends and family. Vil and you hand-picked every song on your wedding playlist.
Sometime later during the evening, your guests have prepared some speeches and party games for you, including a slideshow of your most important memories together and a round of musical chairs which Vil happens to win.
Azul and you decide to hold two wedding celebrations, both under the sea and on land. You hire a wedding planner to help you set the whole thing up and you convince Azul not to charge the guests for the food.
Only your closest family members and friends attend the wedding ceremony under the sea, to make sure that Azul is able to provide enough potions for all of you to breathe underwater.
He's totally the nervous one out of the two of you. Kinda freaks out internally if anything doesn't go according to plan and during the time you spend planning your wedding, he sometimes needs you to take his mind off things and let him rest his head in your lap as you run your fingertips through your fiance's silver hair.
Since there's no real "wedding attire" for merfolk, Azul receives some traditional coral sea body paint which is temporary and luminous. You cup his cheeks before the ceremony. "You're so pretty", you gush quietly and Azul reminds you to save this for after the wedding with a blush on his face.
Azul's mother has to be the happiest guest. She sweeps her son up in a hug. "Awww my little Azul is getting married....they grow up so fast", she wipes her tears, "I remember when you were just 3 and you tried practicing your signature with ink on our living room walls." You giggle. "Mum...please", Azul groans and hides his expression behind his hand.
In remembrance of the mermaid princess's beautiful singing, the mermaids who have been invited to your wedding sing for you as you are united in front of the altar. Azul wraps an arm around your shoulder as the two of you listen to the siren song.
During your vows, you make sure to drive the point home about how beautiful you think Azul is inside and out, something that still gets him a little flustered even after all this time.
"My dearest y/n", Azul begins his own vows and can't resist pressing a kiss to your forehead before continuing with his speech, "when we met, my heart knew no rest nor satisfaction. I grasped for everything within my reach because I myself was unsure of what I was looking for. I know now, that what I really needed was closure and acceptance and love. You were there throughout my journey so far and I want you to be there for the rest of it. I have grown to love you from the bottom of my heart and I fall in love with you more and more every day. I want to share my future with you and I'll stand by your side, come what may, for as long as you'll let me be part of your world."
You seal your marriage with a soft and loving kiss and Azul can't repress the joyful "It's a deal!" that comes out of his mouth. "The only contract I'll be happy to sign with you", you joke.
You receive headpieces that are decorated with shells, featuring a golden shell reminiscent of the necklace the Sea Witch used to wear as the centerpiece.
After the ceremony you are given gifts by your guests. The merfolk typically give you items from land to accompany you on your journey beyond the sea, a tradition that originated from the collection of the mermaid princess and her union with the human prince.
Your celebration on land happens the day after at the beach. There's food and drinks and the atmosphere is as lively as you would expect from a beach wedding. There's sparklers and a bonfire as well.
As the sun sets, you and Azul are sent off in a boat to a ship you have rented where the celebration continues. Your closest friends accompany you with boats as well before the rest of your guests follow you. Your merfolk guests are watching from the surface of the sea.
The wedding celebration ends with a huge firework at midnight. "I love you", Azul whispers to remind you as the fireworks light up the night sky. He has his arms wrapped around you and presses a kiss to your cheek.
After the guests have left the ship, you and Azul are sent off to your honeymoon together.
Leona sees his family members gather around him and ask him a million questions about your upcoming wedding and everyone seems to have their own ideas for how to improve the festivities for the second prince. “You know”, he holds you in his arms on the evening before the wedding, “it’s not too late to ditch everyone and have a shotgun wedding in a neighboring country.” You chuckle and shake your head. “I think Farena would have a crisis if we did that.”
A couple of months before the wedding, the royal family invites your family and they get together over dinner to get to know each other better and discuss your wedding plans with you. Farena is really happy that Leona is getting married and that he’s seeing him actually put effort into something.
The wedding ceremony is held at Pride Rock, just as recorded for every royal couple since the time of the King of Beasts. You, along with several guests, are wrapped in cloth and Leona has to guess which one is his betrothed. His senses never fail him though.
“You know, it would have been so embarrassing if you actually got it wrong. I would have never let you live this down”, you tease him. Leona shrugs. “Literally no one else here smells this much like herbivore”, he smirks and pokes your side affectionately. “I like to think this is a compliment”, you grin. “It is by now. I thought you were a pain back when I met you”, he whispers into your ear. You roll your eyes with a laugh. “What? I’m not allowed to say this during my vows, might as well do it now”, Leona pulls you close as your guests are busy talking to each other, “I don’t know what possessed you to stick around even through my obvious annoyance and terrible attitude but you crawled your way into my heart. I admit I wasn’t…the easiest person to love in the beginning. But I promise that I’ll never let you down again. Or… overblot. Actually I would appreciate it if we could just forget about the overblot.” Leona cringes. “Anyway, ‘suppose what I wanted to say is, thank you for stickin’ by me. I love you. A lot, actually. There was a long time where I didn’t really see a future for myself. But now I do. And I want to spend it with you.”
You are escorted to the wedding ceremony by your respective families. They shake hands before entering the venue together, accompanied by singing, dancing and drums.
Leona’s official vows are very formal and something you knew Farena had beta-read. Nevertheless, you appreciate the gesture. You and Leona exchange rings and your families sign off on it as you are pronounced a married couple. Leona pulls you close and kisses you, wrapping his tail around your waist.
Your closest relatives and associates of the royal court assemble in a circle with you and Leona and your ceremony is concluded by the Royal Mjuzi giving his blessings for your marriage, just as it had already been done during the times where the King of Beasts roamed these lands. The Royal Mjuzi takes his bakora staff adorned with baobab fruits and shakes it in front of you.
Leona and you light a unity candle before you ascend to the top of Pride Rock along with Farena and the queen. “I could lift you up and show you to the people like they did with Cheka when he was born”, Leona whispered with a smirk on his face. “I would prefer it if you do not do that”, you whisper back and shake your head. “Seriously don’t”, Farena warns his younger brother and Leona lets out a quiet laugh.
When you reach the top of Pride Rock, masses of people from Sunset Savannah have assembled below you, clapping and cheering as congratulations to your marriage. The royal family waves to the people and the live music reaches its climax.
As you descend from the large rock, the elders of the community give their wisdom and encouragement to you and Leona
The celebration after the ceremony happens on the palace grounds. Several emissaries from foreign countries as well as Sunset Savannah nobles have been invited and the celebration is also seen as an opportunity to improve Sunset Savannah’s ties with other nations. “Now we get to talk to stuck-up politicians, advocate for King Farena’s ideas and look pretty”, Leona whispers, never really having dropped the cynicism about his status as the second prince, “unless you’re open for suggestions…” “Leona, we’re not going to ditch the celebration, take a jeep out into the wilderness and kiss under the stars….okay maybe after the event we can do that.” “You know me too well”, your husband chuckles and wraps his arms around you from behind.
“Do you think the great kings of the past give us their blessings as well?”, he asks, looking up at the stars. “I thought you said the stars were just giant balls of hot gas burning millions of miles away from us?”, you raise an eyebrow. “Eh, it’s a pick and choose thing for me, really”, Leona smiles and kisses your cheek, “I love you, herbivore.”

Elven Dessert headcanons
Sindar: Tarts are the most popular dessert among the Sindar. The Elves of Doriath like to use fresh berries in their tarts— the most popular one being blackberries. Blackberry tarts also happen to be Lúthien's favorite kind of dessert. Strawberry tarts are also well-liked, but it’s saved for special occasions. Melian, however, has a preference for cherry tarts. The Doriathrim are also known to use floral ingredients in their tarts, like elderflowers, lavender, and even roses. Their signature delicacy is the strawberry rose tart— an exquisite dessert that’s eaten during the annual Midsummer Feast, and during weddings. A special blackberry rose tart was served at the wedding of Beren and Lúthien, and the strawberry rose tart was served at the wedding of Dior and Nimloth. Among the Sindar of the Falas, egg tarts are very popular, and they also happen to be Thingol's favorite kind of tart as well. The Sindar of the Falas also enjoy treacle tarts during the Yuletide holiday, and this tradition continues well into the Third Age among the Elves of Mirkwood. Even Elrond himself has a preference for fruit tarts, and he had a cherry tart made for his wedding with Celebrian.
Vanyar: Cakes are their most preferred desserts. They have invented many different varieties of cakes in Valinor, and they are also skilled in the art of elaborate cake decorating. The most popular cake variety among the Vanyar is the sponge cake— it's served as a three-tiered cake, coated with rich buttercream icing of different colors, and these cakes will typically have very intricate decorations on each tier. Three-tiered sponge cakes are commonly served at Vanyarin weddings, including the weddings of Finwë and Indis, and Turgon and Elenwë. After the destruction of the Two Trees, the Vanyar Elves of Valimar create a special two-tiered cake colored silver and gold, and it's only ever served in remembrance of the Two Trees themselves. And following the War of Wrath, they create a white and gold cake to celebrate their victory over the forces of Morgoth, which becomes a tradition on every anniversary of Morgoth's imprisonment in the Void.
Teleri: Though the Teleri are renowned for their ship-building, they are just as well-known for their beautiful pastry desserts. Their most commonly-used ingredients are chopped nuts, honey, and other sweet syrups. The most popular Telerin desserts are frangipane sweets, baklava, and mille-feuille. Baklava is especially popular among the Teleri of Alqualondë, and it’s a favorite dessert of Princess Eärwen herself. Her father, on the other hand, prefers rose-flavored lokum, the chewy gelatinous candy coated in powdered sugar, which is a delicacy mostly enjoyed during festivals and weddings. A commemorative box of lokum and baklava was given out to the people of Alqualondë during the wedding of Finarfin and Eärwen. Lokum is especially popular among the Teleri of Tol Eressëa, and it was one of the sweets they shared with the Dúnedain of Númenor during the early years of the Second Age— where it would become a very popular Númenórean dessert.
Noldor: Biscuits and cookies are their preferred dessert. They’re quick and easy to make, and they can be enjoyed while they’re reading or smithing. Butter biscuits are very popular among the Noldorin population of Aman, and they happen to be Fëanor's favorite kind. When Fëanor and Nerdanel were married, Finwë handed out commemorative tins of butter biscuits to celebrate their union. The same thing happened for the wedding of Fingolfin and Anairë as well. These butter biscuits are also enjoyed in Nargothrond and Eregion, and are a common gift given during the Yule holiday. The Noldor of Gondolin, on the other hand, prefer sandwich biscuits with a rich ganache filling. When Tuor and Idril were married, a tin of these biscuits were given as commemorative gifts to the city's population. And though the ingredients of Middle-earth aren't the same as those in the Blessed Realm, the Noldor were quick to adapt and utilize these new ingredients to make these biscuits.

The way you draw Etho is so freakin GENDER!!!!! and I love your zombie au so much!!! Is there anything you've really wanted to talk about with the au that no one's asked about yet? :D
First of all, thank you for reading/enjoying the things I've been drawing!! Second of all, what I want to talk about could fill a novel or two, but I've settled on flowers today.
A couple months back, I decided to assign a handful of characters in the AU flowers. Mostly just for fun, but I do use them in my illustrations, and Joel and Lizzie's flower makes an appearance in the comic.
Technically, the meanings of some of the flowers below can change depending on color and who you ask. I chose whatever I jived with most.
Anyhow, here they are;
Cleo-Hyssop
In general this flower represents humility, repentance and sacrifice. I've seen in my travels that it's mentioned in the bible, in the context of cleansing/forgiveness. Fun hyssop fact, it's actually a garden herb from the mint family.
Etho-White Lily
White lilies are all over the place in terms of meanings and associations, so I'll only touch on what specifically applies. They're a popular funeral and wedding decoration. The color white is heavily associated with purity, but I chose these for their ties with death and rebirth. Them being a popular sympathy flower is a bonus, considering he's presumed dead for the majority of the comic.
Joel and Lizzie-Morning Glory
Morning glory has a handful of meanings, but the most popular ones are all centered around love; love in vain, undying love, sometimes even obsession. I like the way morning glory twists around things, it's one of my favorite flowers despite it's weed status. In general, morning glory is known to smother nearby plants and they require a lot of consistent effort to get rid of. This is pretty well known, but most morning glory blooms in the morning and closes in the evening.
Grian and Scar-Poppies
This is a really popular fandom thing already, and I think death and remembrance are really fitting for them. They're also closely associated with sleep, peace, undying love and sacrifice. I associate them very strongly with the Wizard of Oz, and that movie strikes a really great balance of nightmare and reverie for me.
Martyn-Hemlock
It feels weird to talk about characters I haven't introduced yet, but I'm doing it anyway for the prank of it all. In Victorian era flower language this flower is tied to the phrase 'You will be my death.' Hemlock is (allegedly) associated with dark arts like necromancy and it's generally seen as a sign of danger.
I only went ahead and chose flowers for people who have really important roles in the story, so apologies 75% of the characters aren't listed. Just a fun little list, I don't know if folks are as crazy about flowers as me, but anyways thanks for reading! Below is a lil scribble I did up on tracing paper back in February.
Take care!!

Torah ark curtain by Simhah, wife of Menahem Levi Meshullami.
From Venice, 1680/81. Embroidered with silk and metallic thread; metallic fringe. 216.1 × 140.1 cm.
This is an extraordinary Torah curtain because of its impressive size, beautiful workmanship, and unusual iconography. The dedication at the bottom reaffirms the significant role played by Italian Jewish women in the creation of synagogue textiles, even among very wealthy and prominent families such as the Meshullami, one of the first Jewish families to settle in Venice.
What is unusual is the detailed representation of Jerusalem, unique in Torah curtain iconography, but common on another type of seventeenth-century Italian Judaica, decorated ketubbot. Since the Italian Jewish marriage ceremony includes the recitation of Psalm 128, which mentions Jerusalem, and remembrances of the city's destruction conclude every Jewish wedding, depictions of the city were appropriate to the decoration of the contracts displayed at the ceremony, creating an iconographic link between two forms of Judaica prominent in the lives of women.

“I do have a ring, and we will get married.”
First Father’s Day for actor Ransom and his mommy-to-be preparing for a baby (and a wedding) please
The books opened before you were laid out with all measures of decorations and decor that ranged from high end minimalism to bougie and high class. You hadn’t inherently found much that you really liked despite Ransom’s own demands, and preferred to have something much more simple in elegance and design.
“Planning a wedding and having a baby is stressful. A wedding planner will help.”
Ransom meant well but you couldn’t be bothered with the wedding planner who insisted she knew better than you. And your pregnancy hormones weren’t allowing you to remain ignorant to the planners folly.
Instead of looking at the elegant and over the top designs, you focused on Father’s Day. Ransom wasn’t expecting anything, he had almost entirely forbidden you from doing anything because the day held no special meaning however you didn’t listen. Instead of doing what he wanted and ignoring the day, you had been busy creating a momento for him.
You took the latest sonogram taken of your baby and cropped it to fit a hand carved picture frame with Ransom’s name etched into the wood. It was matched with a burnt first fathers day into the side, a remembrance for him.
Your disinterest in someone who didn’t want to hear what you had to say was inevitably noticed by Ransom, when he returned from an afternoon out with some friends. His return was first announced by the clatter of his bag on the floor, and then it quickly became tumultuous when he saw the look on your face.
“I can’t work with someone who doesn’t give a shit about what I have to say-” he cut you off by tapping on his phone, sending a message to whoever, and then returned his attention to you.
“-and I refuse to cow down. So…” you slipped the frame our behind your back and handed it to him. “Happy Father’s Day Ransom.”
“Told you I didn’t need anything—” he fell silent when he grabbed the frame, his eyes poignantly staring at the image trapped behind glass.
He was silent and thoughtful, his eyebrows furrowed and his lips forming what looked like a scowl.
“If you don’t like it, give it back-“
“No.” He pulled it away and tucked it under his arm, his expression still contrived and controlled. “It’s mine.”
As he turned away you caught the briefest glimpse of a smile building on his face, and his eyes cast down onto the sonogram.

Ignus, Luna, and Stella - Ch. FIve
When the snow had melted, but the chill had not quite gone from the air, I walked down to the Remembrance Garden while Hodari was working.
Well, I more wobbled than walked. My belly stuck out well in front of me, and my clothing options were firmly limited to the largest of Jel’s custom maternity line. Chayne had been remarking lately how large the baby was. I tried not to let that worry me, but I certainly felt the extra weight on my body. The walk took my breath away, and the stairs into the garden were a challenge all their own. But I had important business to attend to.
I carried with me a small bundle of incense, which I lit when I finally got to Leta’s stone. Bending to place them was also a difficulty, but I managed all the same.
I puffed out a strained breath. “Hi,” I began awkwardly. “I know I don’t usually talk when I come here…There’s just a few things I thought you should know.”
I felt the baby move under my hands. They’d been very active the last week or so.
“Hodari and I are having a baby, as I’m sure you can tell. Very soon, now. Hard to say when exactly. …Najuma’s excited. We’ve been keeping her involved in the preparations, making sure she doesn’t feel left out of anything.”
The baby kicked, and I had to take a moment to recover.
“It wasn’t our plan or anything. But he’s happy…I know you’d like to hear that. He’s scared, too. Scared of losing someone again. …He still misses you. But he is happy.”
I shifted my weight from one foot to the other. This next part felt harder for some reason.
“We’re getting married. After the baby comes. …We decided to wait until after, so that we had eyes on the future. I’ve already moved in with Hodari and Najuma, though. And I guess I worried that people…or you…would feel like I was trying to take your place. ..But the thing is, I’ll never be Najuma’s mother. Or Hodari’s first love. That will always be you. I couldn’t take your place if I tried…And I wouldn’t want to, anyway.”
My back was spasming a bit, probably from having overdone it on the walk. I winced and waited for it to pass. Just a little twinge, a little tightening, but it was rather uncomfortable.
“Some of the folks in the village asked what I wanted for the wedding ceremony. Like for decorations and things. And I had to ask Hodari what your favorite flower was. Briar daisies aren’t my favorite, but…But I wanted to have some of you there. It just felt right, you know? To honor you however I could.”
I paused to wipe a tear away.
“It’s just…Sometimes I feel guilty. Because Hodari never would have even glanced my way if you had been here. And all of these wonderful things…This new life I get to have…I wonder how many Humans aren’t going to reemerge. …And I wonder why I get to have this, when you don’t. And…and my other child doesn’t.” I winced again. “Chayne calls it survivor’s guilt. Ashura says it’s better in the Dragon’s realm, but I…I wouldn’t want to give any of this up. Not for eternal peace or anything else.”
I was fully crying by that point. “But if it were me on the other side, I’d want to know that my family was taken care of. …And I’m doing my best.” I bowed my head. “I’m trying.”
“You’re doin’ wonderfully, darlin’.”
Hodari was standing a few paces away. He smiled, but there was the glint of tears in his eyes.
“H-how much of that did you hear?”
“Pretty much all of it,” he admitted. “You don’t walk as fast as you used to, so I caught up pretty quick. But then I realized where you were goin’, and I figured you’d want some time.”
I didn’t know how to feel about that. “And you thought you’d just spy on me for fun?” I tried to laugh.
Hodari shrugged. “I wanted to keep an eye on you. You shouldn’t be off on your own when you’re this far along.”
As if in response, the baby kicked again. I held my belly and took in a sharp breath. “...Fair enough.”
“You know I’m not as good with words as you are,” Hodari said. “But…thank you. For keeping Leta in your mind.”
“Always have. …Do you want some time alone, or..?”
He shook his head. “I think you said everythin’ I wanted to say already.”
“Oh?” My back and sides spasmed again, but I tried not to show it.
“Yeah,” Hodari wasn’t looking at me anyway. He was watching the incense burn. “I’d been keeping her caught up on things, but wanted to make another stop before things got real busy with the baby and all. Tell her that I still loved her. And that Najuma and I are still doin’ better than we have in years.” He smiled at me again. “‘Cause even if you’re not taking her place, you sure are fillin’ a void.”
I just nodded. I worried if I tried to speak that it would come out strained. Hodari noticed then that something was going on.
“You alright there darlin’?”
I nodded again. “Just a twinge.”
“You’re breathin’ real shallow for ‘just a twinge.’”
“I’m okay,” I said, letting out a longer breath as my muscles finally relaxed.
“Okay, well, let’s get you home. You’re supposed to be taking it easy. Healer’s orders.”
I wrinkled my nose. “I can handle a walk,” I protested, as if I hadn’t struggled the whole way to the site.
Hodari seemed to think that was funny. “Well, for my sake then.” He offered me his hand, and we slowly made our way through the Remembrance Garden and down the steps.
We chatted as we walked. Mostly about the weather. Some about what we still had to do that day. There were points when I let Hodari talk more, because those spasms kept coming back. We were almost to the gate when I stumbled, and my hand tightened around his.
“Stella?” Hodari moved in front of me, placing his other hand on my shoulder. “Stella, talk to me.”
I shook my head. “It’s…just a cramp, I’m okay…”
“No you ain’t.” He reached for the horn on his belt. The one he made so Chayne would be able to hear when we needed him. As he blew it, the sound resonated through the valley, and I nearly doubled over as my muscles seized.
Hodari helped me back home. By then I knew he was right. The baby was on its way. Najuma had heard the horn and was anxiously waiting for us at the front door.
Once I sat down on the sofa, the contractions began to ease a bit, and I felt better. Well enough to have caught my breath by the time Chayne and Kenyatta arrived. Hodari was still rushing around, gathering everything we needed. According to him, Najuma had come early and fast. So even though Chayne told him that was unlikely to be the case with me, Hodari looked more out of sorts than me when the sage knocked on the door.
“You look good, for being in labor and all that,” Kenyatta said with a smile as she and Chayne began unpacking their things.
“I feel good?” I even laughed a little. “It doesn’t really hurt, it’s just uncomfortable.”
“Let’s hope it stays that way,” Hodari said from the center of the room. He’d already grabbed everything on the list, but was shifting his weight nervously, looking for something to do.
“Unfortunately, I do imagine things will intensify,” Chayne commented. “Just so you are not surprised when that happens, Stella.”
I waved a hand. “Delaila regaled me with stories about her deliveries. Apparently Nai’o’s birth was a trial.”
Chayne nodded. “I do remember.”
Najuma was a mirror of her father, nervously fidgeting in the corner. Kenyatta looked over.
“You know what to expect?” She asked.
“I think so,” Najuma said. “I mean, I know the basic principles.”
“Well, it's my first time, too.” Kenyatta told her with a reassuring smile. “So we’ll deal with any surprises together.”
Something occurred to me. “Chayne. What is the baby's starstone?”
“Well, if they're born by tonight, it will be waning crescent, under The Artist.”
“Like me!” I patted my belly with a giggle. “Anyway, I'm pretty sure it will be today.”
“These things can take some time,” Chayne warned.
I tensed with another contraction. It was a full-body pressure, and I had to take measured breaths through it.
“Stella?” Hodari was at my side in an instant.
Once the feeling eased, I laughed again. “I'm alright, love.” I kissed him softly. “If Chayne is right about this taking a while, it's going to be a very long day if you stay this nervous.”
Hodari lowered his voice. “Please let them know if anything doesn't feel right,” he said, making intense eye contact. “Please.”
I stroked his cheek. “I will, love. I'm going to be okay.”
He relaxed somewhat. “I love you.”
“And I love you.”
Kenyatta moved to monitor the baby's heartbeat. After a moment of listening, she nodded. “Sounds good, you can relax.”
I released Hodari's hand. I hadn't realized I'd grabbed it in the first place, but I had been squeezing it so tightly that my own hand ached.
I looked back to Hodari. “Okay,” I admitted. “I'm scared too.”
“I know,” he pressed his lips to my forehead.
For the next few hours, it stayed about the same. If I stood up to stretch my legs the contractions would ramp up--and when I sat down again, they would slow. So it was much more comfortable on the couch, but it was better to move around.
As the day drifted slowly into evening, we all started to get bored. As a group, we took a walk around the lake outside. Before we'd made it back to the house, I was starting to feel some pain. Some hasty checks confirmed that it was normal progression of labor--the baby wasn't in any distress.
“How about some cards?” I suggested breathlessly.
So while the sun set, we gathered around the coffee table for a game. One game became five. It was difficult to hold much of a lively conversation during it, given that I was fighting to breathe through my contractions by that point. I did catch Kenyatta peak at my cards during one of my checks, which she of course denied. But otherwise it was five very bored, but no less tense, people sitting around and pretending to enjoy cards.
“Is it supposed to take this long?” Najuma asked, glancing out at the darkness. “It feels like a lot of waiting.”
Supporting my belly with my hands, I rocked from one foot to another while I stood by the couch. I was very tired of it all. I couldn't blame Najuma for beginning to get impatient.
“In some cases, it can take multiple days,” Chayne told her.
“Embra no,” I swore, and Chayne chuckled.
“You seem to be moving through labor at a fine pace,” he assured me.
I let out a groan as another contraction started up. I doubled over, one hand on the frame of the couch. I kept moving from side to side as I tried to ride out the wave, but it went on for much longer than the previous ones had. The pressure felt immense. Hodari rubbed my back until it finally passed, and I gasped to catch my breath.
“You're doing very well,” Chayne remarked.
And from then on it felt less like waiting for something to happen and more like actively climbing a mountain.
Hodari stayed glued to my side for the next hour. He muttered reassuring praises through every intensifying wave. Najuma kept her distance, except for the times when she asked if I needed more water. She watched from the chair in the corner, eyes wide, taking it all in like the scientist she was.
I was nearing the end of the strongest contraction yet, when I let out a cry. “It's too much, something's wrong! Something's wrong!”
Chayne and Kenyatta both checked the baby's heartrate.
“I don't hear anything to indicate--”
I yelled, my body shaking. “I need her out!”
Chayne suggested that we move to the bedroom. I was practically sobbing, and there was barely a break between the contractions.
“I'm assuming you feel the urge to push?” Chayne asked me. All I could do was nod.
He gave Kenyatta some instructions I couldn't hear over my own voice. There was the pain Delaila had talked about. I felt like I was being ripped apart. But every time Kenyatta checked, and she did so frequently, she breathlessly assured me that nothing had ruptured.
“What are they worried about rupturing?” I heard Najuma ask. Hodari gave her a pained look. This was not the time to explain it all.
He turned back to me, sweeping the hair from my eyes.
“You should get into whatever position feels the most comfortable,” Chayne advised. The only way I felt like I could be was on my knees on the bed. Hodari stood beside me. Najuma hovered in the doorway, half in and half out.
“Good,” Chayne said as Kenyatta piled towels underneath me. “Now the most important thing you can do, Stella, is breathe. Try to relax. Let your body do what it needs to.”
Relaxing was not possible. I could barely breathe at all. But my body certainly did have an agenda, and that was to push, whether I wanted to or not.
I screamed as every muscle I had tensed hard, all pushing down.
There were no breaks. There was no more time to talk, or comfort Najuma, or anything. And after the most intense pain of all, worse than anything Delaila could have described, there was a baby squirming in Chayne's hands.
Hodari said something to me, but I was shaking and reaching out. “Is she okay?!” I sobbed. “Please, is she breathing, is she okay?”
Kenyatta was checking me over and trying to get me to lie down.
Chayne wrapped a towel around the baby, wiping gently at her face. And he turned toward me, beaming, as he finally put her into my arms. “She is quite well, Stella.”
The world quieted and seemed to stand still. She had her father's dark hair, and bright pink skin that was slowly settling into a rosy color. Her tiny ears came to tinier points. And she made soft crying sounds in my trembling arms.
“Hodari,” I breathed. “Are you seeing this?”
He pressed a kiss to the top of my head. “Yes. You're amazin’, darlin’.”
“She's amazing,” I whispered.
Najuma had crept forward after the frantic rush of everything, and was peeking over her father's shoulder with a look of only slightly traumatized awe. “That was…a lot,” she said. “Are you feeling okay?”
I nodded slowly. “I'm feeling a lot of things,” I said honestly. But after a moment I tore my eyes from the daughter in my arms, to the other standing over the bed. “Did you want to name her?”
Najuma's eyes went somehow wider. “Me? But we never decided…”
I waited while she thought about it.
“...Her starstone is a sapphire, right? How about Sapphire?”
I grinned. It was beautiful.
Hodari made a bit of a face. “Kind of a Human thing to do, name your kid after their starstone.” Then he laughed. “But I'm alright with that.”
The night was far from over. No one got any sleep, except for Sapphire in fits and starts. Chayne and Kenyatta offered to stick around for longer, just to be safe. So eventually, as the sun rose, Najuma went into her room--but didn’t sleep, we could still hear her puttering around and tinkering with things. And Chayne and Kenyatta took a breather, close at hand in the living room.
And it was, for a moment, Hodari, and Sapphire, and me.
I didn’t want to put her down, much as Hodari kept telling me I needed to try and sleep.
“She’ll still be here when you wake up,” he promised me.
I hadn’t realized how much I needed to hear that. I began to cry. Hodari’s arms tightened around me.
When I could speak again, I said, “We should probably let Chayne and Kenyatta go home. They’ve been here since yesterday.”
Hodari reluctantly nodded. I leaned into his embrace. “Because I’ll still be here, too. …And the last thing we need is Eshe banging on our door wondering where Kenyatta is.”
He managed to laugh at that. After tucking my hair behind my ear, and kissing my cheek, he shifted his weight to get off the bed. Sapphire fussed mildly at the movement, stopping Hodari in his tracks.
“She has me wrapped around her finger already,” he marveled. He kissed me again, and finally did go to relieve our healers of duty.
As the door closed, I whispered conspiratorially to Sapphire, “He’s a bit overprotective, as you can see. But your sister would have told you that.” I settled against the pillows, and the full weight of my exhaustion slowly fell on my shoulders. “He’s a good father, though, regardless of what he would say…At least he’s trying his best.” I sighed. “We’re all just trying to do what we can…you’ll learn that, too.”
In short order, Hodari returned to lift Sapphire out of my arms. The last thing I saw before I finally let myself go to sleep was Hodari rocking her gently as he sang a Majiri lullaby.

ENCHANTED | Death x Sorana
Enchanted — to be filled with desire; charmed.
The female found herself in front of a church. Her body hesitated to go inside, but her will was not having it.
Invitation clutched tightly in her hand, she walked towards the big doors. "Invitation?" The guard at front asked, his eyes complimenting her with an annoyed gaze.
Presenting the crumpled invitation that laid in her hand, the guard took it begrudgingly. "Hm..Sorana Misheru?" He asked, analyzing her from head to toe to see if she did have the traits of a Misheru.
She nodded as she took a deep breath. "Yes. That's me." The guard gave a nod before swinging the door open. "In you go." So started her doom.
Her stomach churned as she entered the fancily decorated hall. In front of her stood him, the man who once told her she was his everything.
Death Tsuki gave her a warm smile as he walked towards her. "Good afternoon, Your Highness." He seemed happy today, she thought. Why wouldn't he? He was marrying the woman of his dreams. Her heart ached with intensity at the thought of it as she gave a small smile in response.
"Good afternoon." She managed to add, her voice could not say anymore as her entire being ached. "Congratulations." This was when her voice finally faded as it could no longer keep the hurt away.
Death beamed at the response as he now grinned with intensity. "Thank you!" Suddenly a sound came from behind her as another guest came in. "Oh, well I'll see you in the party afterwards, Your Highness. Please excuse me now." He bowed before leaving.
She was left alone to deal with her hurt as she looked to another direction. Only to find the woman Death was going to marry, Arianne Damaris or soon to be Arianne Tsuki giving her a look of pure hatred. Why was she hating her? At least she came to the wedding as a member of the royal family. What more could she possibly want?
Her stomach turned again and she felt ill. Bile rose to her mouth as she took off in flight. Her body could no longer handle the feeling of being sick to the stomach once more as she found herself in the bathroom, barfing out her stomach's little contents.
A ring of the bell told her it was time as she lifted her head. Cleaning herself she raced back to the venue, finding her seat near Lucifer who gave her a warm look as he moved over for her.
The wedding went on for while. Her heart pounding as she realized it was nearly time. Everyone here knew she'd object. She loved him did she not?
Yes, yes she did. As the priest's said the words everything was silent as her body refused to lift up and say the words. I object to this marriage.. She screamed at her body to move yet it didn't as the time finally finished.
Death and Arianne gave their kiss of union as the people rose in a congratulating manner. Everyone seemed so... happy.. everyone except her.
Sorana moved up as her body finally came to. Her tears came out as she ran off into the courtyard where she found herself crying.
He was the one who was the light of her world. Now he was gone. She fell to her knees as she clutched her chest, heart hurting at remembrance of their memories..
"If I died would you care?" Her eyes met that of the one she loved as he gave her a warm smile.
"Of course, how could I not my love?" He said while hugging her tightly. A kiss sealed their promise as their bodies felt each other's warmth. That was the promise.... The promise now broken..
Tears rained down as her mind continued feeding her those words given by him. Over and over again. Her body no longer beared the pain as she heard the cheers and applause made by the goers.
Her thoughts screamed her defeat as she refused to get up. The sounds grew faint meaning they were already on their way to the place where the after party takes place.
She sat there for a little while longer. Taking everything in. This was reality. Her reality. No happy endings lay here, she thought to herself as she stood up once more.
Making her way, she thought to survive. For him. At least today she'd be happy. The crying and screaming will be for tonight when she will not sleep.
"There you are, Sorana!" Death smiled kindly as he regarded her with an embrace. One she wished was more than friendly like. "I was worried for a second."
"I had...problems to deal with." She gave a forced smile at him, hoping he wouldn't notice. As she had hoped he hadn't. For he was too focused on his beautiful bride to care about her smiles.
He left as if he had forgotten her as he made his way to Arianne who seemed to beam at him as they kissed again earning another cheer from the guests. This only earned an ache for her nonetheless she was happy for Death. At least she hoped that's what she felt.
The party went on for while as she drained herself. Eating only so little that the goers were almost concerned for her. Almost.
In the middle of the couple's dance, Lucifer got up and asked her to dance. "Come on." He gave her a something on his lips she took for a smile as he pulled her up. "It'll be alright."
She gave in as she was dragged to the dance floor. Moments later, there was a dance that required to switch partners. It just so happened that Death and Arianne were near her and Lucifer so she found herself in Death's arms as they danced.
Their last dance. She thought to herself as she moved with him. She might as well enjoy it.
Death gave her a foreign look as he spun her around. It struck her now than it ever did before. She was enchanted. Too enchanted.
Pulling away quite immediately, her actions stunned Death as she once again ran. She could no longer hold herself any longer and she'd break right in front of him. A cry came from the male as he trailed after her.
"Sorana!" She stopped. She did not turn around but she knew he was there. His breaths were heard as she lifted her head to the moonlight. "...Are you not happy for me?"
"I am." She whispered barely as her eyes filled with tears. "Very happy." This was all he wanted to hear and she knew this well.
"Congratulations once again, Lord Tsuki...may this marriage be a good one."
Now two months later, she found herself looking over the kingdom on her balcony. Her eyes meeting the wonders that no longer could lose her in her thoughts.
One tap on the window made her know immediately who was visiting her at this time of night. Death.
"What are you doing here, my lord?" She had hoped to keep away from him a while longer... The pain still lingered after all and she did not want more of the unbearable feeling to be towards her.
Death was silent before she turned and found him right behind her. In his eyes were a look too different from the way he always looked at her with. His eyes were... angry? Frustrated perhaps? She did not know but they were anything but the kind ones he always regarded her with.
"What—" "...do you hate me now?" He demanded as his eyes shifted away from her, backing up a little as he took note of her undeniably unrelaxed state..
"What do you mean?" "..." Death just gave her a cold stare of response before he pulled out and put down a stack of papers he had hidden in his coat.
Just by looking at it she already knew what they were. There was no need for questions. "So the rumours are true then." Sorana murmured as her eyes refused to meet his, turning her back once more towards him as she hid her glistening eyes. "You've decided to let go of most things."
"Arianne needs my time." Death mumbled, suddenly thinking this wasn't the best idea. "But we can still talk as confidants just not everyday as employee to employer."
"I think..." She whispered, her voice begging to not say the next words. "It's best we keep our distance from now on." She finally gave up, turning around she let herself be known as weak. "I apologize but...being with you does not do good for me."
Death seemed to understand but barely as he took this as her not wanting to be acquainted with him as much anymore. "Is this because my marriage? If so you don't have to worry."
"It's not because of that, it's just the rumors." and my feelings.. She added silently as her eyes shifted back to the scene of beauty and joy underneath her balcony. She was aware that he was getting closer as his footsteps came clearer to the ear.
Leaning against the rail, she gave a small smile as she let the tears flow. "Please...just leave me be..." Sorana's sobs grew more audible as the male stood stunned.
"...I see. Very well." He whispered as he moved back. His steps moving away from her as clear as day until it grew faded. "It was a pleasure meeting and serving you, my lady." Seconds later he disappeared.
This was more than she could take as she collapsed sobbing. Her body shuddering as she screamed. Why does this have to be the end? What mistake did she make?
She loved him so...even if it hurt.
Now she was given new updates about her old lover. This wasn't as bad as they rarely talked but her mentality grew better and she was one step closer to exposing Arianne for her infidelity. Or so she thought.
A specific news came to her connection's ear as he brought her the news. "The Tsukis are expecting a baby, Your Highness." This hurt more than it was supposed to. She knew well that Death loved Arianne so the possibility of it being his child was big but...Arianne had another lover behind his back and she knew she loved him more than Death.
"Is he sure it's his?" "Yes." "..." Do not collapse again. You know what happened last time.
The last time she was seen collapsing in tears for love was the time she found herself being starving and thirsty as no water or food was given to her as well as whipping her bloody gave her no medicine to treat those ugly wounds.
"I see. You may leave." She mumbled as the messenger bowed before leaving. She'll have to warn him.
Making her way to his home was a challenging feat as she had made a promise to never visit here. But this was rather urgent. She found the way to his window and climbed just like they always used to do back then. God knew this place was nostalgic and miserable to her body but there was no other choice.
Entering she finds herself immediately grabbed and pushed against the wall. A hand covered her mouth as three whole awkward minutes passed before she was let go. A pair of blue eyes stared at her with pure annoyance. "What are you doing here? Do you have any idea what people could say?" Death demanded as his eyes were set and ablaze directly at her own.
"I came here to warn you about something." She practically shouted back at him as he pinched her making her nearly yelp but she knew to cover her mouth now. Another few minutes passed as Death listened on to the sound outside and sighed before signalling her to continue. "People say you're expecting." "We are." He looked at her with suspicion. "What about it? I doubt you come here to say congratulations directly since you wanted ‘space’ as you said."
"Listen. It may not be your chi—" "Shut the bullshit." Death growled as his eyes turned purple with fury. She moved back as she had never seen him this mad before.
"Leave." Death turned as he walked opposite of her way. "Death—" "I said leave, damn it. If you're here to break our marriage then leave, Sorana. I don't want anymore of this, you aren't my mistress and I'm not your servant so I won't listen anymore."
She fell silent before a creak of a window was heard. She fled off.
Now she stood in her bedroom. She was unwanted here. He was the one who made her feel wanted. But now he didn't. This world was right. And so was the prophecy.
Every rose dies do they not? They say it comes natural. Well... Let her be the first rose to die herself. A piercing of a blade to a heart, crimson liquid decorating the floor, a body falling in a collapsed manner.
A male came ready to apologize for his issue in trusting her for he had just seen his fiancé with another and he wanted to tell the woman who had begged him to listen that she was right and that he apologized. A tap once he gave as she knew what that meant. No answer. He figured that meant he could go in. Entering the room, his heart stopped.
"Oh...hey..." Sorana whispered to him as her eyes grew droopy. She felt...tired. Incredibly tired. Her body hurt as she fought to keep awake. "Surprise seeing you here..." She whispered as Death came to her side. Taking off his coat, he panicked as he rolled it into a ball trying to stop the bleeding by placing it on her wound. She coughed out blood as her eyes stayed still at his crying face. "Why are you crying...?" Her fragile voice hit him hard as he kissed her forehead in answer.
"Why...why would you do this...?" He asked as his tears could not be controlled.
A smile crept onto her lips but it was a painful one as she felt the pain. "So that...no one needs to worry." She whispered wincing at the pain. "I don't want anyone to be carrying me as a burden anymore." Her hand gently wiped Death's tears. "Don't cry, I'll be fine.." It was her last moment. They knew this. "It was enchanting to see you again, Death... I love you."
"I...I love you too." Death whispered back as he stroked her hair. "Death..." "Yes?" "I'm tired..." No.. He bit his lip to prevent from screaming. "It's okay.. You can rest now, my love. I'll be here when...when you wake up." "Promise?" Her voice was faded and quiet as he nodded. "Promise." She gives him a smile as their last kiss is taken before everything fades into the void. Her eyes close and her chest stops moving.
"No..." The male clutched the lifeless body as his sobs grew audible to the people around the house.

I spent too much time creating holidays for this save, and so because I put so much work into it I’m insisting on sharing it with everyone. Includes OOG and IG descriptions under the cut!
Starlight Festival - December 31st/January 1st

Whether it’s a local festival, a wedding, or even a simple bouquet gifted to a loved one, flowers hold a special place in this vibrant community. Beyond their beauty, though, flowers carry deep meanings. In this article, we're going to dive into the most popular flowers in Pearland and explore what each one symbolizes. Whether you're planning a wedding, looking for a thoughtful gift, or simply curious about flower meanings, this guide will help you connect with the symbolism behind some of the most beloved blooms in Pearland.
Why Flowers Matter in Pearland
Flowers aren't just pretty additions to a space; in Pearland, they symbolize love, friendship, hope, and even healing. Flowers are part of the local culture and are often seen during celebrations like weddings, birthdays, and holidays. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see Pearland florists decked out with gorgeous arrangements for public events and private gatherings. Each flower serves a purpose, not only in terms of decoration but also in the messages they convey. After all, flowers have been symbols of expression for centuries.
Flowers in Pearland’s Community Events
Every year, Pearland hosts a variety of events where flowers take center stage. Weddings are, of course, a huge reason why florists are in demand. But that’s not all! The city also holds festivals, fundraisers, and other community gatherings where floral arrangements can be seen everywhere. The flowers in these events aren't just for looks; they are meaningful tokens. Florists, like the ones at Florista, often create personalized arrangements that speak to the emotions and values of the people involved.
The Role of Florists in Pearland
Florists in Pearland play a crucial role in curating floral arrangements that match the feelings and personalities of the people involved. Whether it’s a birthday bouquet or a custom arrangement for a wedding, florists know how to pick flowers that evoke the perfect emotion. For example, choosing roses for a wedding symbolizes love, while lilies for a memorial might express respect and remembrance. Florists in Pearland, such as those at Florista, are experts in creating these messages, making them essential to the community.
Popular Flowers in Pearland and Their Symbolism
Now that we understand why flowers are so important, let’s look at some of the most popular flowers in Pearland and what they symbolize.
Roses: The Symbol of Love and Passion
Roses are probably the most well-known flower when it comes to symbolism. They come in various colors, and each color has its own meaning. Red roses symbolize love and passion, making them a classic choice for romantic occasions like anniversaries and Valentine's Day. White roses, on the other hand, symbolize purity, innocence, and new beginnings, which is why they are often seen at weddings. Yellow roses are associated with friendship, joy, and happiness. In Pearland, you’ll find roses in many places, from local flower shops to grand celebrations.
Lilies: Representing Purity and Refined Beauty
Lilies are another favorite in Pearland, loved for their elegance and pure beauty. These flowers are often associated with purity and refined beauty, making them a popular choice for weddings, baptisms, and other solemn occasions. White lilies symbolize purity and virtue, while orange lilies can represent passion and confidence. Lilies also have a strong presence in memorial services, where their symbolism of renewal and purity provides comfort.
Tulips: The Promise of Perfect Love
Tulips are adored for their simplicity and vibrant colors. They symbolize perfect love, making them a fitting gift for couples or as a gesture of admiration. In Pearland, tulips are often given to mark the start of spring, and their bright, cheerful hues bring a sense of hope and new beginnings. Whether you’re gifting them to a partner or using them in a floral arrangement, tulips are sure to convey a message of deep affection.
Sunflowers: A Bright and Cheerful Symbol
Sunflowers are the epitome of happiness. Their bright yellow petals and large size make them stand out, and their symbolism reflects their boldness. They represent happiness, loyalty, and strength. In Pearland, sunflowers are often seen in summer floral arrangements or as the centerpiece of outdoor events. These flowers bring warmth and positivity, making them perfect for birthday celebrations, graduations, or simply to brighten someone's day.
Orchids: The Symbol of Luxury and Strength
Orchids are often associated with luxury, beauty, and strength. Their intricate petals and exotic appearance make them a favorite for those looking to add a touch of elegance to their surroundings. Orchids symbolize love, strength, beauty, and fertility, and they are often given as gifts to convey admiration and respect. In Pearland, orchids are popular for special occasions such as anniversaries, high-profile events, or as a statement piece in floral arrangements.
Carnations: A Symbol of Fascination and a Happy Life
Carnations are a versatile flower often used in a variety of arrangements. In Pearland, they’re widely known for their symbolism of a happy life, fascination, and deep love. Pink carnations symbolize gratitude, while red ones represent admiration. White carnations are often linked to a love that transcends all, making them a great choice for both weddings and funerals. Whether you're celebrating a milestone or just want to show appreciation, carnations are a beautiful and thoughtful flower choice.
How to Choose the Right Flower Based on Its Symbolism
Choosing the right flower can be tricky, but understanding the symbolism behind each flower makes it easier to pick the perfect one for any occasion. Here are some tips for selecting the ideal bloom based on its meaning:
For a romantic gesture: Choose red roses or tulips to express love and passion.
For weddings: White lilies or roses symbolize purity and new beginnings.
For a friendship gift: Yellow roses or sunflowers are bright and cheerful, perfect for showing appreciation.
For memorials or solemn occasions: White lilies or orchids convey respect and remembrance.

Unique Groomsmen Boutonniere Ideas to Stand Out
Boutonnieres are more than just a floral accessory; they’re a symbol of style and unity for the groomsmen at any wedding. While traditional boutonnieres featuring roses or carnations are timeless, modern couples often seek unique options to make their wedding stand out. Choosing distinctive boutonnieres can add a personalized touch, reflect the theme of the wedding, and showcase the individuality of the groomsmen.
Succulent Boutonnieres
Succulents have become a trendy choice for weddings, and it’s easy to see why. Their sturdy nature and unique appearance make them an excellent alternative to traditional flowers.
Succulents are versatile and can complement both rustic and modern wedding themes. Their muted green tones pair beautifully with neutral and earthy color palettes.
Combine small succulents with other natural elements like twine, burlap, or sprigs of eucalyptus for a cohesive look.
Succulent boutonnieres are long-lasting and can double as keepsakes for your groomsmen.
Herb-Inspired Boutonnieres
Herb boutonnieres are a fresh and fragrant option that adds a touch of nature to your wedding.
Herbs like rosemary, thyme, and lavender not only look elegant but also smell amazing. Their subtle hues work well with minimalist and garden-themed weddings.
Tie the herbs together with a ribbon that matches your wedding colors. Add a small charm or pin for a unique twist.
Herbs have symbolic meanings—for instance, rosemary represents remembrance, making them a meaningful addition to your wedding day.
Feather Boutonnieres
For a whimsical or bohemian wedding, feather boutonnieres are an eye-catching choice.
Feathers come in a variety of colors and textures, allowing you to customize the look to match your theme. They’re lightweight and less fragile than traditional flowers.
Pair feathers with small dried flowers, beads, or metallic accents for a more intricate design.
Feathers can symbolize freedom and creativity, adding a meaningful touch to your wedding.
Dried Flower Boutonnieres
Dried flowers offer a rustic and vintage vibe that’s perfect for outdoor or barn weddings.
Unlike fresh flowers, dried flowers won’t wilt, ensuring your groomsmen look sharp throughout the day.
Choose a mix of dried blooms in your wedding colors. Add textural elements like wheat, pampas grass, or small pinecones for added interest.
Dried flower boutonnieres can be kept as mementos long after the wedding.
Wooden Boutonnieres
For a truly unique and eco-friendly option, consider wooden boutonnieres.
Wooden boutonnieres can be carved, painted, or stained to fit any wedding theme. They’re durable and make for a striking, unconventional accessory.
Have the wood engraved with initials, dates, or a special design that ties into your wedding’s theme.
These boutonnieres are reusable and can be displayed as decor after the wedding.
Sports-Themed Boutonnieres
For a fun and casual wedding, sports-themed boutonnieres can showcase your love for the game.
Incorporating small elements like miniature footballs, golf tees, or baseballs into the boutonniere creates a playful and personal touch.
Use the team colors or add small pins representing your favorite teams.
This idea is a great conversation starter and adds a touch of humor to your wedding day.
Berry and Fruit Boutonnieres
Berries and small fruits can add a burst of color and a touch of whimsy to your groomsmen’s boutonnieres.
Fruits like hypericum berries, kumquats, or small crab apples bring an unexpected twist to floral arrangements.
Combine berries with greenery and seasonal flowers to create a lush and vibrant look.
This unique choice ties beautifully into harvest or fall-themed weddings.
Metallic Accents
Metallic boutonnieres add a modern and sleek touch to any formal affair.
Materials like gold, silver, or copper can be crafted into geometric shapes or floral-inspired designs for a contemporary look.
Pair metallic elements with dark greenery or monochromatic flowers for a chic, sophisticated style.
Metallic boutonnieres photograph beautifully, adding an extra layer of elegance to your wedding album.
Wildflower Boutonnieres
For a laid-back, natural look, wildflower boutonnieres are a charming choice.
Wildflowers bring a sense of effortlessness and natural beauty to your wedding. They’re ideal for outdoor or rustic celebrations.
Opt for a mix of colorful wildflowers that reflect the local flora of your wedding location.
Wildflower boutonnieres are budget-friendly and perfect for a DIY approach.
Adventure-Inspired Boutonnieres
For couples who love travel or the great outdoors, adventure-inspired boutonnieres can capture your spirit.
Incorporating items like small compasses, miniature maps, or hiking-themed charms makes for a truly unique accessory.
Use natural elements like moss, twigs, or stones to enhance the adventurous theme.
These boutonnieres double as keepsakes that your groomsmen can treasure long after the wedding.
Fabric or Paper Flowers
For a creative and customizable option, fabric or paper flowers offer endless possibilities.
These materials can be crafted in any shape, size, or color to perfectly match your wedding theme.
Use fabric swatches that match the bridesmaids’ dresses or incorporate meaningful patterns, such as tartan or lace.
Fabric and paper flowers are durable and make wonderful keepsakes.
Eco-Friendly Options
For environmentally conscious couples, eco-friendly boutonnieres are a meaningful choice.
Using sustainable materials like recycled paper, organic fabrics, or potted plants reduces waste while still looking stylish.
Incorporate elements that reflect your commitment to sustainability, such as small reusable containers or biodegradable materials.
Eco-friendly boutonnieres align with green wedding trends and showcase your values.
Vintage Brooch Boutonnieres
Vintage brooches offer a touch of nostalgia and elegance to your groomsmen’s attire.
Brooches can be found in a variety of styles, from classic to eclectic, making them versatile for any wedding theme.
Choose brooches that reflect the personality of each groomsman or tie into your family history.
Brooches can be passed down as heirlooms, adding sentimental value to your wedding.
Boutonnieres are small but significant details that can make a big impact on your wedding’s overall look and feel. By choosing unique designs, you can ensure that your groomsmen stand out while also reflecting the personality and theme of your celebration. Whether you opt for succulents, feathers, or something completely unexpected, these creative boutonniere ideas are sure to leave a lasting impression.
Take the time to explore different options and work with your florist or designer to bring your vision to life.
