Worst Fandom Takes I've Seen:

Damn this is difficult. there are so many shit takes floating around hmmmm let's start with the easy ones.

Twinkification of sirius black. ranted about this on my blog already so i'll keep it short. it sucks. also fun fact, i used to be a total marauders fanon fan until the butchering of sirius' character (+ the rise of jegulus). So really, it was just sirius’ character assassination that made question fanon marauders. Remus fanonization hasn’t bothered me till quite recently lol.

That sirius and Remus are soulmates. Like they’re literally my otp,, but they’re not perfect for each other I’m sorry. They’re probably better with other people (Dni remadora stans tho). Buuuut, that’s part of the reason I like them so much!! Because they’re so shit for each other. People who say their soulmates often sugarcoat their relationship and get mad when ‘actual’ wolfstar depict them as ‘toxic’

Regulus was forced into being a death eater by friends and family. Bffr that boy had a Voldemort mood board. His parents were probably more concerned for him lmaoo

‘James Potter is the sun’. Babes that man was an arsehole 💅🏼💅🏼. If he’s the sun then that’s because he thinks so highly of himself not because he’s a sunshine loll

my hp trans fest 2022 faves

canon-adherent--canon-plausible--fics are my thing in general -- ones in which writers take key canon events and details and use them as a jumping-off point around which to weave their own narratives. there's something about that that feels very satisfying, reclaiming almost, especially from the angle of trans fest. anyway -

Lay down your armour (be with me forever) by @bluesundaycake (E, 21k, severus snape/remus lupin) [rb the author's tumblr post!]. A story told over a decade of encounters, where a body feels like a graveyard and another like a battlefield, and names are whispered tenderly until they feel real.

a canon-compliant snupin from the hogwarts-era period through to first war. fantastic severus characterization, what a gorgeously bittersweet romance. an absolute masterclass in first-person POV, made me feel so many feelings.

Family Legacy by @thistlecatfics (T, 1.6k, tedromeda, remadora, teddy/victoire) [rb the author's tumblr post!]. Three generations of trans/nonbinary/gender questioning Tonks-Lupins.

canon-compliant, amazing HCs. whatever the opposite of generational trauma is -- generational healing? we do what we do in hopes of building a better world for the people that come after -- and this is sort-of a story of that.

7 - HOT CHOCOLATE - Tight Spaces by @krethes (3.2k, T) - mwpp-era remus-trauma / remus’ werewolf childhood. lots of hurt but tons of lovely comfort after, and delightful marauders friendship.

Instead, he was jostled in a bone-crushing hug, sloshing hot-but-not-scalding cocoa on the blanket in the suddenness. Sirius buried his head into his shoulder and held him so tightly Remus thought he might snap in half. Remus's cheeks were wet and, embarrassed, he realized he was crying. He hadn't expected such a response from Sirius, who was usually joking or brooding, never something so gentle, so sincere.

🍍 i don't know if this counts as an au, but road trips are the best thing in the history of the universe. i also like the ones where nobody dies. *cough* marauders era *cough*

i don't love soulmate aus, though i don't know why. i do think they may have potential. i also hate things like veela aus.

kotlc human aus, though i've written at least two, almost never go well. (key word almost, the best one i've seen is a sophiana fic by @an-ungraceful-swan)

nobody shall die. ever. more so in golden era fics, but also with kotlc kenric and jolie and stuff.

dpecifically with drarry, i get rid of the sectumsepra thing because. angst. i don't like angst.

such a lack of canon gayness; whether it's drarry or wolfstar or sokeefitz or marellinh or dorlene or marylily or hekster or the four horsegirls or or or

lack of canon pocs! hermione is black, the vackers are desi, james potter is desi, harry potter is half desi, the list goes on!

there is such little information about the marauders, oh my god! i love writing about these guys.

I finally made it to this post, and I'm going to say everything that's stuck in my head

Please stop pretending that Remadora doesn't exist in the original. No one is stopping you from shipping a character with anyone, on the contrary, I'm even jealous of the imagination of many people in the fandom. Fanon is just fine when people can draw a clear line between what the fandom came up with and what the author of the original work came up with. But I always have a lot of questions for individuals who deny CANON.

There was no mention of the Sirius/Remus romance in the original. In the original, they have a lot of red flags. In the original, neither of them even tries to be more important to each other than their other friends (for example, Remus treated Weasley family the same way he treated Sirius, if you look closely). The original said that at some point in their lives they didn't trust each other and paid the price for it. How can people who supposedly loved each other just believe that the other is a traitor? How can you, knowing someone for years, just believe the gossip? They didn't even try to find out the truth from each other, didn't even try to TALK about it to each other - Sirius just believed that Remus was a traitor because of lycanthropy (and his disappearance because of a secret Order of the Phoenix mission), and Remus just believed that Sirius was a traitor because the Ministry said so (which, by the way, he never believed?! Weird, right?)

But in the original there was Remadora. In the original, Remus and Tonks' relationship is shown in as much detail as necessary for a story that doesn't focus on the romance of secondary characters. Let's not forget that the books are written on behalf of a boy who has seen very few genuinely loving relationships in his conscious life (Plus, Harry is clearly not a very smart guy, no matter how much we love him, he's a bit of an idiot). The original shows how Remus and Tonks' relationship was experienced during different situations and you can see that they really love each other. Remus and Tonks got married: if Remus didn't want to, he wouldn't have married Tonks, no matter how much she "forced" him. Seriously, he's over 30 years old - do you really think he couldn't stand up for himself if he didn't have the will? How much are you belittling him if you think he married Tonks just because he felt guilty or because she looks like Sirius because of the Black blood, or because she can morph herself as Sirius? It's even insulting to the character, both to Tonks and to Remus himself - he's a grown man and can make his own life as he wants it. As we can see, he wanted Tonks.

Fanon is one thing - you can do what you want, but canon is another thing. Everything is already written out for us, and I find it unacceptable to make things up for your own satisfaction in any couple and passing it off as reality, and I see that as a sign of not being serious about the entire fandom universe

Headcanon: If the Marauders never existed

my personal opinion on what would happen if each marauder didn’t exist, which changes a lot but these are my current thoughts

James

Sirius would be in Slytherin

James was the one who encouraged Sirius to be in Gryffindor and gave him that push on the train, I think that with his family, if he had never met James on the train he wouldn’t have been sorted into Gryffindor - he wasn’t brave yet

Lily and Snape’s friendship would’ve still fallen apart eventually, since Snape would’ve still been in Slytherin and joined the Death Eaters, but it would’ve happened later on, maybe in Seventh Year or after graduation during the war

Remus and Peter became friends but never really clicked like the four marauders did

Remus and Lily are still platonic soulmates

Regulus would’ve been in Ravenclaw

with the pressure off of him, as Sirius is the heir and wouldn’t have disappointed his family, he would’ve most likely been sorted differently

be still pranks people and has practically the same personality, but he has to be more careful

regulus and remus meet in a study group and become friends

regulus, and eventually through him, remus would’ve influenced sirius enough so that he isn’t a blood purist

it takes him a lot longer to shake off his family’s blood purist ideals

but in order to keep the pressure off of regulus and to keep him safe, since his parents don’t like regulus as much anymore, he doesn’t run away

when his parents die he becomes the head of the house of black

remus becomes head boy, as much as he hates it

sirius is convinced to be the order spy

sirius is the one to find out about and hunt for horcruxes

he finds them all with the help of remus and regulus because dumbledore is useless

(sirius and remus eventually get together but it takes longer)

peter stays neutral during the war, he has no one to convince him to join the order, but isn’t important enough to be recruited as a death eater

snape doesn’t become the order spy, since when he tells voldemort the prophecy it has nothing to do with lily

Neville would be the boy who lived, obviously

the second war doesn’t happen, since all of the horcruxes have been destroyed

lily survives the war and is dating mary macdonald (i don’t take any criticism on this, lily is bi)

this may seem like a better universe in the end but it’s not because james doesn’t exist

Sirius

remus, james, and peter are still friends, but aren’t as close

remus and james are best friends, as are remus and lily

lily doesn’t hate james as much - at the beginning james always wanted to impress sirius and vice versa, without sirius james would’ve been more tolerable in lily’s eyes

but without prongsfoot friendship james isn’t nearly as much of a mother hen

james is really close with marlene, because he needs a quidditch friend

regulus’s storyline remains the same

james and peter become animagi for remus, but it takes longer

lily becomes one too later on

james and lily start dating fifth year, because it took him less time to win her over

snape and james are still rivals, but sectumsempra is never invented

snape and lily fall out in sixth year over him finding out remus is a werewolf, and lily sticking by remus’s side

the prank never happens

snape still becomes a death eater and the order spy

peter still joins the order

although he doesn’t feel as left out without james and sirius’s friendship, he still feels overshadowed

peter still becomes the spy

james and lily never believed remus was the traitor, so without sirius he convinces no one

remus is too obvious to be secret keeper and is away on a mission for werewolves

peter is the secret keeper

james and lily are still killed and peter is found out and taken to azkaban

remus raises harry

I don't know if you've answered smth like this before, and I hope it isn't an annoying question (you can totally not answer if that's the case), but how do you see it in your mind shipping both wolfstar and remadora? Like, what I mean is: to you, do they exist in the same universe? Is there a preference?

ooh that’s really an interesting question actually! and probably I’ve never aìhad the chance to explain how i see these ships.

i ship both and I think they can totally coexist.   I see the wolfstar as an adolenscential thing that happened at school. in my personal vision of their relationship I think sirius and remus were both attracted to each other, but they never managed to become an official couple (for various reasons). the remadora occurred several years later, and it is a much more mature and different thing. Sirius spent so many years in Azkaban and Remus lived without him for so long. Even after they met again, things were too different. they were no longer kids at hogwarts, they were completely different people. Also,  once Remus met Tonks, i like to believe that he understood that He needed a different person in his life and Tonks was this person. :)  Honestly I can’t choose between these two ships, for me they’re they are both nice couples.

Character Profile: Remus John Lupin Canon: friends with James, Sirius, and Peter; Gryffindor prefect; excellent in Defense Against the Dark Arts; a patient professor; loved Tonks; a werewolf AU: Remus' character arc has always been the most clear to me. I knew what I would do with Remus before I knew what I would do with Harry or Regulus or anyone else. You can see the beginnings of his arc as early as Chapter 4 of Philosopher's Stone when he and Lily see Hagrid out.

Lily and Remus walked Hagrid to the door, and Harry went to wait for everyone in the parlor. He heard a quiet conversation between Lily and Uncle Remus, but only the tail end of it, "I understand, Lily —" and her response of, "But you shouldn't. That's what we want you to understand."

I didn't talk about the criticism I've received for how I write Lily (some of it very valid), but I do want to touch one piece of criticism I have gotten about Remus, which is often something along the lines of, "If James and Lily and Sirius all survived, and stayed with him through adulthood, Remus wouldn't hate himself so much."

I did take that thought into account when I began the series. I thought heavily about who Remus is when he is not alone, when he is established in a community, when he has people who can look out for him. I thought about my own mental health, and how that doesn't go away just because I have good friends. I thought about how injustice doesn't go away, even if your closest friends stand with you. I thought about how we internalize oppression, and since I'm writing this post fresh out of a conference on combating systemic injustice and teaching students to recognize and fight oppression, those ideas are all very present in my mind. I kept Remus' self-loathing because it made sense to me that it would persist, despite his friends.

All of Remus' conversations with Sirius and Tonks echo this deeply rooted self-loathing, and I think understanding the depth of those roots is key to understanding Remus. I had never planned on bringing Lyall Lupin into Deathly Hallows, and I don't know when exactly it occurred to me that I should, but I am so glad that I did because that truly is how deep these roots go. We pass on our fears and hate to our children so easily, no matter how much we might try not to, might try to hide them, children know. If we truly want to change the future, we have to change ourselves.

This is an everyone lives AU, so, spoiler, Remus lives. But what is so key to Remus living is that he gets to grow and work through both his understanding of himself and his relationship with the Wizarding World. And if he can't heal himself, he will pass on the same faults to his children, just as his father passed that internalized fear and hatred onto him.

Which brings us to Teddy and Tonks. I always knew that Teddy would exist. He had to. So I knew that Remus would end up with Tonks. I waffled for a while on what I would do with Sirius, and, honestly, Sirius' conclusion has changed several times just in the few months I have been writing Deathly Hallows. I won't say more on it, but I hope people trust me to be as delicate and kind with Sirius' character as I have been with Remus' development.

There were originally notes for Teddy to be a werewolf, or for Remus and Tonks to have a second child who was a werewolf. It always pained me to watch Remus agonize over his unborn child being like him, and for that fear to be unrealized in such a complete way... But, as terrible as werewolfism as a metaphor for HIV is, I want to honor at the bare minimum Remus' realness as an outcast with a very specific curse that has such limited treatment. With that in mind, I could find no known case of someone with HIV fathering (for lack of an ungendered word) a child with HIV. So I will find another way for Remus' growth beyond his father's mistakes to be realized in the end of Deathly Hallows.

I don't want to say much more on Remus' growth and development, because a lot of that will be coming on June 5, when I release Chapter 11, and I want to let that chapter speak for itself.

The last note I do want to make is, as I did for all the Marauders (and Lily), I gave Remus pieces of myself. My own self-loathing and depression is so present in Remus, my absolute worst days go to him (and to Sirius, but in a different way). The thoughts where I feel utterly hopeless and overwhelmed and unworthy are the thoughts I have given to Remus. The coping mechanisms, the friendships that have uplifted me through that, and the conversations I have with my dear friends are the foundation of Remus' relationship with the Marauders. I only hope that bit of myself and my world that I give to them brings them to life in your mind.

Addendum: I forgot how meager Remus' notes were. I don't know that I will ever get to touch on the relationship I imagined for Remus and Firenze, nor Remus and Nearly Headless Nick. I had always imagined that both had lengthy conversations with Remus following the death of his mother and helped him grieve during a time when he did not feel able to turn to any of his friends. I always wanted to do more with Firenze, who would have an entirely different relationship with Remus' furry little problem, and probably would have been even better at helping Remus understand himself and trust himself than James and Sirius. But I am not sure it will come up.

Trust me, it is not lost on me that I am writing this fic to expand on a universe I felt was so unexplored, and here I am, failing to explore all that I want to explore.

I’m late but I’m here.

I’m Keru (that’s a nickname), I’m 21 (21,5 to be specific), and I’m from Poland. Yeah, you know, we have cool swearwords, and basically, we are a meme. My mbti is INTP. I’m a typical Ravenclaw. My patronus is a manx cat (how cute is that).

I do draw sometimes but my stuff isn’t as good as I’d like it to be. I was also writing fanfics and I do wrote few short original stories in my teenage years. Now I kinda abandoned it, because I’m aware of the fact that I will never finish anything again. I love watching movies in the evenings (shamelessly my favourite movie series are Pirates of Caribbean and Lord Of The Rings). I’m not a huge fan of HP movies tbh. I’ve seen them multiple times, I like to watch them when they’re on tv (not so often in Poland tho), but it’s not sth I’d kill for to watch. Maybe except for the Prisoner of Azkaban. That’s the only movie out of the eight that I could say I loved. But that’s not something to discuss today. My favorite characters are of course Remus and Sirius, not only because the “gay thing” but because they were quite a complex characters and I think it’s fun, after all these years, to still explore their history and personalities. I’d also add to the list characters like Luna, Neville, Mcgonagall and Weasley twins. Favorite ship is (obviously) Wolfstar but I also love Jily and lowkey ship Remadora. Not a huge fan of Drarry tho. (but I think that Scorpius and Albus were hella gay to each other) I love all the books equally, but at the same time (again) I have more affection towards POA, because it’s where the story starts to reveal itself, and, you know, I’m a Marauder era fan so it’s quite obvious since we get the most of our faves there. I loved Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. Yes, Jacob was my absolute favorite. I didn’t liked Cursed Child and I think that Scorpius is the only good thing that happened in this… uhm… book.

I started previous paragraph as “things I like” but it unexpectedly became strictly HP-related. Well. Anyway, I’m also a big Tolkien fan. Not the know-it-all type, but I try my best. I really enjoyed reading Silmarillion, and it’s probably my favorite one out of the whole “LOTR universe”. I also a fan of Sherlock Holmes (as books) and BBC’s Sherlock (still haven’t seen last series because iM NOT READY YET). I also like Doctor Who (the new one, I still wait for a proper moment in my life to watch classic-Who). I also have two dogs - Pluto and Max (mixed cocker spaniel and bavarian mountain hound) and a dumbo rat Lucifer. He’s alone but he don’t get along with other rats very well so I had to separate him. But he’s lovely to people.

I guess that’s it then. I wrote more than I thought I will. I could write more though, but it would be boring. We’ll get to know each other better, I hope, so that’s unnecessary anyway.
