So I calculated the exact screen time of all the love square ships in season 1
Yeah, it's exactly what it says. With 99% accuracy I went through all the episodes of season 1, calculated the exact screen time of ever love square ship in every episode, added them all up and made charts to compare them.
But first of all, where did I get the idea to do this? Well, I was looking through Tumblr and I so a post by someone called purrincess-chat answering an ask about Adrienette in Season 5 and in her reply she mentioned how Ladynoir and Adrien have around the same screen time in seasons 1-4 with Ladynoir having slightly more and that is simply reversed in season 5 with some Maricat and Ladrien sprinkled here and there. So that made me wonder: how much really is the distribution of screen time between the love square ships? So I did this, starting with season 1. But before we get into the results...
Some Ground Rules
What does and doesn't count as screen time for a particular ship? Here are the rules I laid out:
Both characters of the ship must be present in the scene for it to count. That's means no scenes of Marinette fawning over ads and pictures of Adrien or Adrien swooning over the fact that the love letter he found in "Dark Cupid" might be from Ladybug.
At least one of characters of the ship must be reacting to the presence of the other character for it to count or at least doing something together. We can't have Maribug and Adricat both just doing their own separate thing acting like background characters and call that shipping content.
If one or both of the characters believe that there are speaking with the alter ego of the other character, then it counts as screen time for that ship. Meaning when Ladybug goes to check on Adrien in "Volpina" and Cat Noir pretends to be his civilian self taking a shower, it counts as Ladrien screen time, not Ladynoir.
Now that that's dealt with let's get into the distribution.
Screen Time Distribution
To the surprise of absolutely no one, Ladynoir dominated season 1, having 76% of the total love square screen time. Makes sense, right? There's an akuma every episode so there's Ladynoir ever episode and since this is season 1, it's more focused on the strict formula rather than some actual development between the other ships.
Coming in a definitely-not-close second is Adrienette with 18.5% of the total love square screen time. No surprises here. Adrienette along with Ladynoir are the main 2 ships while Maricat and Ladrien are simply the side ships. Plus, it's not often for just one of them to be transformed.
Speaking of which, Maricat and Ladrien come in 3rd and 4th with 3% and 2.5% of the total love square screen time respectively and pretty close to each other, Maricat having a slight edge over Ladrien.
Tumblr media
Now let's see the trend across the episodes.
Screen Time Trend
For the most part, Ladynoir is on a completely different level than the other ships, only temporarily being dethroned for one episode- that episode being "Gamer"- by Adrienette which was the episode they both practiced for the Ultimate Mecha Strike Tournament and we got some Adrienette bonding with Marinette giving Adrien her lucky charm bracelet. Other than that, it's been on top the whole time, with there even being episodes with solely Ladynoir screen time and having an average of 4 min 22 sec of screen time per episode, with most screen time being in "Animan" (8 min 28 sec) and least being in "Pixelator" (1 min 3 sec) a.k.a the episode where Adrien was stuck in the titular villain's prison dimension for most of the episode. It mellowed down a little towards the end of the season due to there being more plot relevant stuff in those episodes than akuma battle but picked itself right back up for the finale.
Adrienette stayed fairly low in screen time and having screen time in most episodes having a huge spike in the episodes "Kung Food" to "Animan", even temporarily dethroning Ladynoir like I mentioned before with 6 min 28 sec of screen time.
Finally, Maricat and Ladrien had a few small to moderate spikes here and there with some even being two episodes in a row and Ladrien having most of it's screen time towards the end of season 1.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
Yeah, so that's it. I'm going to be doing these after I complete every season so keep a look out.

I prepared this ask in the Notes app only for Tumblr to not let me copy and paste the text so here’s a screenshot bc I’m not typing all that again lol
Tumblr media
there’s this funny trend i see in trafficblr art, in that, when there’s a lineup of every past winner, most players will be surrounded by symbols that were relevant to their POV, and perhaps drawn with the last emotion they’d felt just before death (or maybe just whatever emotion the artist most associates with the character). The winners might be doing something, or in a pose that reflects how they won—there are a million ways to make a life series winners’ piece. What’s funny about it is that no one ever seems to know what to do with Scott. He’s most often just standing there looking mildly disgruntled. And for the symbols he’s most depicted with, it’s typically poppies, which are only relevant to the first season; last life scott does not place any importance on poppies, poppies dont ever come up beyond a brief interaction in episode 1, and jimmy as a whole is less relevant to scott’s pov in last life than he is in every other season.
not that this is an issue with the art; the pieces are beautifully done, it’s just representative of how little fandom discussion there is about scott’s win thematically. Most discussion I see are about the watchers and how they hate scott for defying him or whatever, but watcher lore is not discussion of the series itself as much as it is a fan creation that is retroactively applied to create meaning.
Scott’s Last Life win, to me, was achieved through accomplishing what Third Life Scott could not.
Scott spent 3L waiting for his day one ally to die. He kept Jimmy at a distance, often fully gearing himself up first before backtracking to help Jimmy along. There’s a funny disparity in episode 5, where Jimmy spends the entire episode trying to get good enchants on his iron armor, while Scott sets up a villager and gets good enchants for the full diamond set that he’d already had in storage, in about half the time Jimmy took trying to accomplish his own goal, iirc. This disparity is also something scott acknowledges with the “I’ll always be more powerful than you” line, but it’s been a while since ive written a post like this so i unfortunately do not have the episode number memorized on that one anymore. But Scott goes on to explain that he’ll always have better armor and weapons, which is why Jimmy could never kill him. This is all to say that Jimmy and Scott do not stand on equal grounds in their alliance, and, more importantly, Scott does not depend on Jimmy. The progress Scott makes in Third Life is entirely his own, with Jimmy as more of an afterthought than a teammate.
This is what landed Scott his all time lowest placement. After Jimmy dies first, Scott loses sight of his priorities and dedicates his remaining time alive to avenging Jimmy, rather than focusing on his own longevity (like he’d go on to do in future seasons). And, in that way, Scott’s attitude towards Jimmy (disposable, going to die, unreliable) was an indirect contributor to Scott’s low placement.
In contrast: Scott could not have won Last Life without Pearl. Scott has to rely on Pearl from day 1, having only two lives to start with himself. Pearl gives Scott two lives total. Pearl and Scott are almost always together. They made it to the final four by each other’s side. And that forced day 1 reliance on pearl breaks down the role scott typically assumes (*he’s* supposed to be the person people rely on, he’s supposed to be the one bringing everything to the table) which curbs his tendency to see himself as above others, which then allows for the most genuine happiness i have ever seen him have in an alliance.
The comparison between the way Scott talks to Pearl and the way Scott talks to Jimmy is like night and day. Scott doesn’t compliment or otherwise say anything supportive towards Jimmy (save for the “I believe in you! MCC has trained you for this moment!” during Jimmy’s dare to flare attempt) until after Jimmy has already died. With Pearl, however, Scott is much more open about his care towards her, saying that she’s his best friend and that he loves her as early as episode 2. There’s more examples but between last life and third life, Scott’s attitude towards his primary ally is completely different, and i think it’s symptomatic of Scott allowing himself to love and be vulnerable rather than keeping himself at a distance. And i think that it’s so special that scott won the season where he was so close with his day one alliance, directly because of his day one alliance.
because, to me, one of scott’s defining characteristics is his self reliance. He will have allies, yes, but he often assumes a supportive role and acts as a supplier. He doesnt like taking things from other people. Last Life is different because Scott relies on Pearl, too. It’s also not a coincidence that last life is the only season where scott is normal about jimmy but that’s a different post
tldr yes scott won last life with the power of love but not in the way people say he did (ignoring the boogeyman curse was strategy ☝️)
I SHOULD NOTE, though, that the boogeyman curse was still a fail. Although purposeful, Scott receives the penalty and apologizes to his team. He says he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. I do think that his words here aren’t fully honest— he’d admitted earlier that this choice was fully for strategy. But I also think his apologetic attitude here is genuine. Scott is a perfectionist, he needs to succeed; failing, though purposeful, still hurts. He feels the need to apologize. It means so much to me that his win in last life directly follows the choice to fail on purpose. I’m insane though idk
third life scott embodies scotts flaws while last life scott is him overcoming them 👍 is what im trying to say 👍 last life scott is everything that third life scott could not bring himself to be, in allowing himself to love and depend on other people and overall just be a person.

Welcome twt immigrants or just newcomers o///
Every week a new wave of twt refugees arrive and so I decided to put together a tumblr 101 to keep ur experience the most stress free and safe as possible
So here it goes:
You can delete comments or plain out disable comments from your posts! So much control.
You can also edit your posts. It even was a meme back on the olden days where a post would go viral and then the op (original poster) would change the post to something silly and the reblogers would look like wierdos or dumdums lol
You can disable your asks or make a rule so people can't ask as anonymous
Report spams!! You can even get rewarded for it. But, even so, report it, they get immediately taken down temporarily
The report system work and the tumblr team is very responsible when investigating an account/post. It's not nuance and easy to make. No one will judge you for it, in fact, it's common culture to do so. It's how we battle pornbots, spams, hate blogs etc.
You have full control of your blog! What people can see, what it can show, block hashtags and the whole shbang.
The algorithm works! Only the things that YOU search for and like will be recommended to you. And if something u no longer has interest in shows up? Just click that u don't want anymore and immediately everything u don't want goes away.
There are many famous blogs that are fun to follow, specifically as newcomer, to really get u on the tumblr experience such as: heritageposts, thebootydiaries, hotboyproblems, showerthoughtsofficial, fartgallery, haikubotofficial and many others. These are just the ones I followed when first arrived back in 2016;
Yes, there are celebrities among us but they're just... here. Vibing, chilling. The most famous ones being Neil Gaiman and Taylor Swift. Here they are just people;
You might have noticed a lot of blogs with blue verification badges. Some with 20 of them. Some are rainbow! That's because Tumblr made a parody of the verification mark from twt and it was fcking hilarius. We loved it so much that it's a thing now. U too can feel very important if u want!
It's worth going the trending tags. Sometimes they are broken, but it's mostly memes or important world news stuff that are actually relevant and helpful. It's safe and you'll have a fun time lurking on other people's fandoms. That's actually how I got into some of my fandoms to begin with;
Crabs.
And there we have it! I might have forgotten something, but I not too worried as I know that people might add it later on. 😉
Welcome welcome!! You'll be safe here. No matter who you are you find a community for you here
It's a hellsite, but it's our hellsite
Remembered something:
It's important to have a profile picture and header image. An reblog a few things before following anyone. Or you will be reported because people will think you're a spam bot kkkkkkkkk so do nurture your blog a little bit before venturing into the unknown.

not really enjoying tumblrs trend of comparing Thomas Andrews to Stockton Rush 😒Could you share how the two differ despite the fact they died by their own creations?
ive been trying to figure out how to tackle this ask for a few days now because theres so much to disentangle, but disentangle i will.
see, this comparison relies on common misinformation and misconceptions about titanic. its a ship thats been romanticised and mythologised for decades, and every portrayal of it from william randolph hearts yellow newspaper coverage to robin gardiners conspiracy theory to jim camerons film.
what im gonna list to disentangle this whole thing is by no means an exhaustive list of titanic misconceptions, only those relevant to this topic
-titanic was a cruise ship - titanic was an ocean liner not a cruise ship (ive detailed the differences in a different ask here)
-titanic was a brand new unique ship never seen before - not true, ocean liners had existed for decades. theres debate about which was the first, but many agree that its the ss great western which launched in 1843. titanic wasnt even the first launched in her class; that honour goes to the rms olympic.
-it was built with substandard materials and cut corners - this is one of those where theres potentially some truth, but its been misrepresented. theres some evidence that the rivets werent the best made, but the board of trade cleared the ship and she was built with the same materials and basically the same design as her sister ship, rms olympic which sailed for 24 years under the nickname "old reliable" and literally rammed a u-boat during ww1 when she was requisitioned as a troop ship. ultimately, the builders were not blamed in the wreck inquiry and the materials used were not substandard.
-it was built as said above due to the choices of j bruce ismay - yeah so this one obviously ties into the above. theres a lot of unreliable sources who seem to believe ismay oversaw the entire design and every cut corner was due to money. this simply isnt true and isnt how this sort of thing worked. white star had a contract with harland and wolff wherein they would build the ship agreed upon and when it was finished, it would be presented to white star and undergo sea trials, and during that time, white star could reject the ship if they considered it substandard. this is what happened to the ss city of rome. unles. the design itself was to be changed a la britannic after titanic sank (improving safety measures), white star could not interfere. ismay could not force them to use different materials.
-it was all ismays fault - okay, i could go on about this for a long time, but this ask isnt about ismay. the gist of it is that history has blamed ismay due to the influence of william randolph hearst (yeah, the guy from newsies and supported hitler) who hated ismay and blamed him entirely. actual evidence shows ismay helped a lot of people during the sinking itself.
-titanic was badly designed - ive kinda gone over this a little already, but again, titanic was not badly built. she was practically identical to olympic which was a fantastic ship. in the design, no risks were taken. most of the designs were enlarged versions of parts of previous successful ships. she was considered the safest ship on the sea. four of her water-tight compartments could be breached without her sinking which was a big fucking deal.
-thomas andrews was the sole designer - there was actually a team of designers that included andrews. he didnt even draw up the original plans; that was alexander carlisle.
-titanic sinking was a unique situation - yeah nah, boats sank a lot around that time. literally two years after, there was a similar disaster with the rms empress of ireland which goes entirely forgotten nowadays. in the same decade, you also had the sinking of lusitania in 1915, principe de asturias in 1916, volturno in 1913 and even thrown in princess sophia in 1918.
-the sinking was actually caused by a coal bunker fire - this is simply horseshit and im sure im gonna end up having to explain and debunk that one too
-the crew were taking unnecessary risks to win the blue riband - this myth is widespread because of the movie, but titanic was not trying to beat the record of the fastest ship from southampton to new york (thats what the blue riband) is; she physically couldnt. it was held by mauretania at that point with a record of 26.06 knots/48.26 km/hr. titanics top speed was 23 knots. white star as a line never focussed on speed and ismay never told the captain to speed up.
-she was "unsinkable" - this is a little harder to disentangle. the claim itself was "practically unsinkable", but the context of that was to do with how safe titanic was as mentioned above. also, the idea of an unsinkable ship was not quite to white star or harland and wolff; most of the shipping industry believed it.
-almost everything youve heard about the life boats - okay so here you need to throw out your preconceptions of what a life boat is because our modern conception does not match that from the early 1900s. to not get into all the details of life boat philosophy at the time (if you do wanna know, just send me an ask lmao), the main purpose of life boats at this time was ferrying passengers to a rescue ship. that was it. this attitude was informed by both the wrecks of the ss valencia and ss clallam, as well as the miraculous rescue of the rms republic. titanic did not have enough life boats for everyone because it was never expected for the passengers to be alone in the life boats for hours; it was not a design flaw, it was a feature.
-that fucking stupid ship swap myth and the idea that the crew were trying to sink the ship - i dont even want to get into why this is bullshit, plus ive also debunked it in another ask
i highlight all of the above to emphasise the fact that titanic was not a badly built ship. she was designed well, built well and sailed well. many experts agree that the way that she hit the iceberg was the only way she could have sank.
this is not the case with titan and stockton rush. in a previous post, ive gone over the design of the titan, the flaws in it and what experts in the field believe, so im not gonna go over it again, but rest assured, the titan imploded because of rush's actions and decisions.
titanic did not sink because of thomas andrews. its due to his design that anyone survived the titanic because she stayed afloat for over two hours which allowed the crew to launch all the life boats. thomas andrews himself helped many survivors during the sinking and evacuation.
he also was not a rich man using a gravesite as tourism; nepotism was certainly involved in his career but he spent ten years working his way up in the company, helping with the design of countless ships. he was mostly regarded as a good man who worked hard and recognised the hard work of others.
its honestly ludicrous to compare them because the disasters themselves are simply not comparable. the titanic did not sink because of the folly of rich men cutting corners; titan did.
thomas andrews, for any faults he had, knew what he was doing and built a good ship that was unlucky. almost every other ship he helped design didnt sink or if they did, most of them were due to ww1.
its just such a ridiculous comparison, and thats all it is. without the misconceptions and misinformation about titanic, the comparison simply falls apart. its built on a foundation that fundamentally misunderstands the titanic disaster.
if you want to talk about shipwrecks caused by stupid decisions made by rich men, go look up the last incarnation of hms captain or the gunilda or the fucking vasa if you want, you can literally go see that one. but dont besmirch the memory of a guy who, by all acounts, died a hero helping other survive.

So there's a Twitter post making the rounds making the claim that nobody has ever shown anyone an old TikTok video and that the website is an entire platform of "disposable content."
It is not lost on this toy that the account holder is probably engagement-baiting, and does not earnestly believe this argument or, at the very least, is embellishing their beliefs to make them more inflammatory so they can farm bigger numbies and get that paycheck from Elon. However, it doesn't really matter if said post is genuine or not because a lot of people agree with the point wholeheartedly.
Now, this toy could sit here and point out a ton of TikTok videos/accounts that are really very good/have had a pretty good amount of cultural staying power/have become large memes, such as the square hole, "that doesn't taste like a gusher," the Da Vinki twins, three gallons three seconds, the tour of Ohio video, the Grimace shake, etc. It could go on. But that wouldn't matter, because anyone making this claim will simply tell you that "oh, well, those are fun videos and all, but nobody will remember them in <amount of time>. You're only proving my point."
Many will go on to tell you that TikTok is nothing like the good ol' days of Vine, that nothing from TikTok will ever compare to the heights of humor and cultural relevance of classic Vines like, uh... The yeet video, for starters. Y'know, that did lead to the creation of a word that persists in common slang years later. Aside from that, though, there's, like... Fre sha voca do? Road work ahead? Welcome to Chili's? Any of those ring a bell? They might, but they also may very easily not. There was the Damn, Daniel vine. Remember Damn, Daniel? Seriously, aside from "yeet," how many vines do you actually hear referenced or otherwise mentioned in the modern day?
Now, one might try to use this as evidence supporting the claim that TikTok is a garbage platform that only produces worthless slop. After all, if the platform commonly cited as being superior didn't actually have that much cultural staying power, then surely that means it's actually secretly worthless and TikTok is doomed to also be worthless, right?
Well, no, not remotely. The fact of the matter is that the vast majority of culture is pretty short-lived, especially online culture. I mean, how could it not be? Think about how much stuff gets posted every hour, how quickly it can blow up, how quickly trends start and then proceed to become insufferable. Think about how there's not really much of a unified cultural zeitgeist anymore because of how the internet lets communities for niche interests flourish.
Yeah, the vast majority of Vines have lost all relevance, seven years out from the platform shutting down. Sure, nearly every single TikTok will share the same fate. But that's how all of this goes. You could say the same thing about anything posted on Twitter, or Tumblr, or Youtube, or bsky. An iconic Vines compilation feels the exact same, to this toy, as a classic TikToks or classic flipnotes compilation. Going a bit further, you could say the same for most things put onto platforms like DeviantArt, or Newgrounds, or Steam, or itch.io, or AO3.
Like, yeah, sure, memes get quickly cast aside once they have stopped being novel and culturally relevant, but does the same not happen to art all the time? To that end, are memes, in themselves, not capable of being art? What does it say about us, about how we engage with media, that so much of what any given person consumes is given no thought, that there is genuinely no difference in the average person's mind between works of art that had a ton of effort put into them and what they would describe as "slop?" Sure, they'll tell you that there's a difference, that one is much better and preferable and more noble than the other, but it's all just background noise to them. They'll drop a like and scroll past it in either case, never thinking about it ever again. If the random meme that gives you a chuckle during your busy day is fake culture for stupid idiots because you won't be thinking about it in a year's time, what does that make the beautifully-rendered painting of a landscape that you looked at for about a second and a half before dropping a like on and abandoning all thought of forever? Surely, if the former is slop because you have treated it as slop, then the latter must also be, yes? But you'll never admit that because then you'll feel bad.
The issue with online culture is not that the culture is bad (at least, not inherently), nor it that the people posting it are (inherently) bad. Rather, the problem is that everyone is being psychologically manipulated into endless, mindless scrolling forever while we also happen to be living in a culture that constantly devalues art and only sees culture as being worthwhile if it's making some suit somewhere a morbillion dollars per week.
But instead of having this conversation, we have a bunch of shockingly young people within this toy's exact age range talking about "new thing bad because new. New kid upbringing bad. Me miss old thing from me upbringing" like they're stereotypes of 80-year-olds. And that gives this toy one very simple question:
What the fuck is happening?
No, seriously, why do we have people who were literally in high school a single-digit number of years ago whinging about how kids these days are too cringe and pining for the good ol' days? Where is this coming from? This toy knows that on some level, the internet can be said to rapidly age people, but this is ridiculous. Furthermore, why is specifically TikTok causing this divide? This toy could understand to an extent if the website started in 2020, but it started in 2016. It could also understand to an extent if TikTok were actually primarily used by children, but it's kind of always been used primarily by the exact age demographic that this toy sees complain about the website the most.
Is this toy simply too young? Have there always been 20-somethings acting like crotchety geezers when new things enter common culture, and this is simply the first time it's become aware of this phenomenon? If not, what actually makes TikTok any different from any other platform that's ever existed?
This toy doesn't really have any conclusive statement to give here. It's just frustrated watching so many people its age give way to reactionary boomer-isms and getting heavily invested in generation politics (by which this toy really means petty shit-flinging) real early, all the while brushing against the task of interrogating how they engage with the world around them while doing and saying whatever they can to avoid that uncomfortable little conversation.
Truly, we will never be free.

is blogging still a thing?
Tumblr media
short answer? kinda. and you wont believe that tiktok does play a role in it.
its not a 'no' because i cant go disgracing tumblr when i've been using it for almost 11 years.
okay. before we get right into it, a brief introduction to what the hell is blogging.
so, blogging. sounds ancient, doesn't it. well, it did started when we barely knew anything about the world. according to many other websites, has been defined as something that has been posted, where writers (or anyone else for the matter) can share their opinions on certain subject, mediums such as writing, photography or things that could be self-publishing online on a website, like tumblr. most people don't know that posting on your twitter, whatsapp statuses and instagram stories are considered microblogging.
see, the thing is, people think that blogging is dead when platforms like tiktok and instagram are thriving. but actually, said platforms are the reason why blogging is still relevant.
Tumblr media
how come tiktok is the reason why blogging is still a thing?
well, when you blog, its basically just you posting about your day, what you eat, what activities did you do and so forth. it can be whatever you want it to be. there are various reasons as to why people are on tiktok. we were there because of covid.
sorry, shouldve put a trigger warning for that.
while most of us signed up to tiktok when ms rona ruined things for us to join trends, share knowledge etc, others would share their similar interests. i remember being on anitiktok, and lord, when i look at the old videos, they were sooo cringey. but hey, at least we've made the most out of it during the lockdown.
other than that, the most notable side of tiktok would be... drum roll please!
booktok.
Tumblr media
so, what's the correlation here? how did tumblr and tiktok became the reason why blogging is still alive and breathing? what does booktok has to do with blogging?
booktok. for starters, is when users are to talk (sometimes they recommend) about books, rant about them, shit talk about how awful the story is (even goes as far as side eyeing the authors [*cough* im looking at you, colleen hoover]).
booktok is meant for people who are into reading. i mean, isn't it obvious?
so, yup. okay, not everyone knows that people go to tumblr to read self-published works of fictions. yes, reading a fanfic on someone's tumblr account on this website is still considered looking at someone's blog (and appreciating them like i do, i've been a loyal fan and reader of several authors on this site). people publish their works here is still considered as blogging because blogging can be anything.
tumblr started and has always been a site where people are able to blog whatever they want, in whatever form (text, gifs, arts, etc). as a result, users as able to look (and appreciate by interacting with the posts by liking, commenting and reblogging) at one's works because it also acts as an archive.
blogging can go from posting lifehacks, tips and advices for people to use as aids as well as to guide them so that they can relate, making them form an online presence.
so when i tell you that the reason why people are still blogging (and interacting with the blogs) because of tiktok, i meant it.
okay, so i mightve made a mistake. to clarify, booktok isnt the only reason why people are into blogging. anime fans, tv series fans like supernatural, movie fans, comic fans, animated fans like atsv fans (specifically miguel fans [aka me]) are the reason why people go to tumblr to blog.
Tumblr media
(i love brooding older men sm yall hes so sexy)
people from all walks of life, specifically if their background is them being a fan of some type of media, is bound to use tumblr to either write a blog (in forms of fanfics/drabbles/oneshot etc) or to interact with them.
and that, ladies, gents and enbies, is the reason as to why blogging is still a fighting tooth and nail to stay alive. its the reason why people still use tumblr to blog. its the reason why tumblr is the place fans go to, to blog and do whatever they want on this app/site. sure, they go to wattpad or ao3 (hell, maybe even fanfiction.net if that site is still alive), but tumblr is one of the platforms (arguable the easiest one to navigate) to use for blogging and such.
and that concludes my opinion. blogging is still fighting for their life, even in the age of tiktok and whatever theyre doing over there (pretty much its vlogging, you know a video type of blogging)
(my right wrist hurt as we speak and i kinda went beyond the word limit so forgiefe mac or whatever it is they say in old/archaic english to be pardoned)
Tumblr media
oh! if they ever would shut down tumblr, i would simply off myself cus what the hell am i gonna do? ಥ_ಥ
reblogs are appreciated!

over the past couple of days i've read some really interesting articles about brands, "lifestyle", consumer identity, etc., but found all of them to be kind of vague or too nonspecific and i chalked it up to me not really being part of these conversations before and therefore not being overly familiar with the context behind each term (like, i know what "lifestyle" is, but i don't know what "Lifestyle" is. same goes for words like vibe or mood or whatever) especially since they've been coined relatively recently, and have attempted to pinpoint a relatively amorphous cultural meaning. i also assumed these were written by marketers or cultural observers or those who have undergone relevant higher education to these fields and for them only, and gave it that concession as well, leaving wikipedia open in another tab.
anyway, i got to an article and realised every writer i had been reading was an american, living in a place like brooklyn, and talking about their specific cultural experiences as though they translate wholesale to the entire anglosphere (and by extension, western world) simply because these phenomena also presented themselves online.
if spending close to a decade on tumblr and reddit has taught me anything it's that posts of any kind need a giant made in america sticker smacked onto them. i cannot be conned into reading political or cultural theory just to find out it's all because of some election or marketing trend from some big city or another that should never hit my shores, but inevitably will, because media illiterates will see anything written in english that slightly expands their feeble scope of the world, and without considering nuance, thinking it to be enlightenment in its purest form, take it as dogma.

I try to just post and reblog funny or silly things here, since I think everyone needs a break from the weird whiplash this site can give of comedy, art, and sudden horrible news sometimes (though if you're like me I may just add to the whiplash on your dashes!) but it's a little hard to do that if the site itself is losing the (very, very small) logic its administration systems have and risking falling apart.
For the unaware, the CEO, Matt Mullenwig (photomatt on this site) appears to have recently directly imposed a ban on the user Predstrogen after what seems to have been a tongue-in-cheek post about how she hopes someones' car "is full of hammers and explodes" (This is, at the very least, what I can find on it. The original post is obviously difficult to find, considering the blog is gone.)
It is no secret that tumblr often takes a laissez-faire approach to administration. Even the most obviously worded threats of violence to users' ask boxes are ignored in part or in whole by site administration, and cartoonish, obviously non-serious discussion of violence is practically part of the site's culture. The choice to ban her goes against this approach, and so there is the obvious question of "why."
Unfortunately, relevant to this discussion is the fact that tumblr has had a recent and obvious trend of misapplying bans for "sexually explicit content" to target and remove transgender users on the site, and despite the company's own argument that this is unintentional, the issue continues with no sign that it is anything but a feature. Better tumblr users than I have documented how even the mere addition of the word trans to a previously approved post can get the post flagged as being explicit before even a single user can view it. Notable for this situation, though, is that less than a month ago, Predstrogen's blog was temporarily banned for this same, supposedly solved issue.
This is why much of the LGBT community on tumblr views her ban as a fairly clear sign of transphobia, and so far, everything photomatt has said on the topic has only dug that hole further.

i guess this is a pinned post (until i unpin it someday)
lots of people are making the move to tumblr yet again which means i have been getting a lot of new followers and feel the need to make a pinned post given trends that i do notice in my new followers. if you are following me for the first time and reading this i humbly ask that you read further before following. this goes triple for anyone that found me through takarazuka. idc about DNI rules usually but this keeps happening at a rate that has almost made me delete my account before so!
some things to know about me before following:
i am trans in a t4t lesbian marriage and we’re both varying levels of asexual and agender/no gender/genderfuck so if any of that bothers you then please DNI!
i am both physically and mentally disabled and i will let you know about it, your opinion on that matter does not concern me
i often forget to tag reblogs so if there is a specific tag you want me to include please let me know and i will make sure i start tagging that item
i work in and produce research for academia, an institution built on systems and morals i do not hold and do not support. my research is always as accessible, queer friendly, and free as it can be. if you have opinions on my research leave me alone idc
i do not participate in fandom. i worked in community management for a variety of brands and media types for years and frankly fandom exhausts me. i will interact with your blorbo post and think its fun but i will not join your discord or fic exchange which brings me to my most important or relevant point:
if you are coming from any takarazuka post i have made (or that my wife has made? idk) please consider if you actually want to interact with this blog. i made a previous post shortly after leaving that fandom aka the only fandom i ever have joined. in that post i said some things in a much harsher way than i probably should have or would have today but i listed my many issues with that media and the people who bullied myself, my spouse, and our friends. there are some amazing people who i know and still care very much about in that fandom but if you are new to it or just forgot i existed please know i will never post a takarazuka post again. i know my blog still gets recommended alongside tkz blogs (including those who actively wish me physical harm :D) and yet i cannot change the algorithms of tumblr. so please consider that when you follow me or send me anon hate.
hopefully this is the last time i ever have to post something like this but theres been an uptick in both terf and tkz interactions on this blog so!

The results from the Ashford twins’ ship polls are in!
The most popular ship for Alfred on Tumblr and also on AO3, if you go by the number of fanfics, is Alexia. Respectively, the most popular Alexia ship on Tumblr and AO3 is Alfred.
First to the polls. For Alfred, the second and third place goes to HUNK and Sergei Vladimir. While for Alexia, the second and third place goes to Albert Wesker and Claire Redfield.
On AO3, the second place for Alfred goes to Sergei Vladimir and third place to Chris and Claire Redfield. For Alexia, the second place goes to Albert Wesker and Claire Redfield, and third place to Leon S. Kennedy.
Polls:
Tumblr media
Results in percent for Alfred (left) and Alexia (right).
Tumblr poll results in absolute numbers:
Alfred
Alexia Ashford: 17 votes Sergei Vladimir: 5 votes Chris Redfield: 4 votes Claire Redfield: 4 votes Albert Wesker: 3 votes Robert Dawson: 0 votes Donna Beneviento: 1 vote HUNK: 7 votes Nikolai Zinoviev: 3 votes Others (unspecified): 14 votes
Alexia
Alfred Ashford: 22 votes Albert Wesker: 18 votes Claire Redfield: 9 votes Chris Redfield: 2 votes Leon S. Kennedy: 0 votes Ada Wong: 4 votes Annette Birkin: 0 votes Steve Burnside: 1 vote Spectre/Vladimir Bodrovski: 2 votes Others (Ashley): 1 vote Others (no one): 1 vote Others (unspecified): 17 votes
AO3:
Alfred is tagged in 85 fics, Alexia in 101. For Alfred, 31 ship tags from 29 fics were used for the statistics. For Alexia, 33 ship tags from 31 fics were used for the statistics. Some fics had more than one ship tag. Every tag was counted individually. So the number of fics does not equal the number of ship tags. 31 and 33 are relatively small sample sizes.
Fanfics were excluded from the statistics if they contain:
No ship(s) for Alfred or Alexia
Only Alfred/OC or Alexia/OC ships
Only crossover ships
Only character/monster
Other criteria, like one-sided, non-con, (lack of) relevance of the ship to the story, etc., were disregarded.
Results in percent for Alfred on AO3:

Notes:
For both characters, about ¼ of the participants have chosen “Others.” In Alfred’s case, no one specified what other ships they like. In Alexia’s case, two people commented. One vote went to Ashley, the other one to no one.
Due to the lack of information, I cannot tell you if a specific ship, which was not part of the poll, is popular among the participants for one or both characters or if “Others are multiple ships of low popularity.
Excluding the unspecified “Others” votes (see below), the general trend of popularity of the ships on Tumblr and the number of fanfics on AO3 correlate well, with some exceptions.
While there is only one Alfred/HUNK fic, the ship is the second most popular on Tumblr.
Robert Dawson (that’s Alfred’s secretary, btw) did not get a single vote, yet there are two Alfred/Robert Dawson fics.
Alfred/Sergei is popular on both platforms, but more so on AO3.
Albert Wesker is, in both cases, the second most popular ship for Alexia. On Tumblr, he is a close second, but on AO3, he falls further behind and shares second place with Claire.
There are four Alexia/Leon fics, but no one voted for this ship on Tumblr.

Thank you to all participants. Special thanks to the two people commenting on their "Others" vote.

okay to be clear before i go on a truly insane rant in the this post about fucking politics and being an expat because i am thinking about it and as my therapist says, fixating on literally any minor stressors to avoid dealing with yet another major trauma that happened to me, having a broad overview of the world and how it works and also like, most country's in the world politics and actively engaging in ways to be like and i know this is kind of a cliche thing to say a global citizen and offer allyship to people in different countries?? really fucking important! i really believe in that! kind of very different from what i mean here which is mostly about specific bills and policy and shit and history and social trends. also for most people this will literally never be relevant. this is the disclaimer so i can sleep tonight.
the third secret option for not caring about another country's politics that I get to explain because this is my tumblr blog is that i've found unless you live there or care for someone in that country actively caring and investing yourself in another country's politics is a great way to really fuck with yourself and sense of self imo. it really fucks with you in a way i find hard to succinctly describe but it's like.
it's like okay. it's really fucking weird to be in a foreign country where you are noticeably not from that country because you can tell people treat you differently sometimes worse sometimes better and it fucks with your brain when it's shit like finding a gym let alone when you're trying to navigate something controversial like fucking politics. in my experience where ive mostly lived in china specifically you talk about politics it gets awkward because no one actually wants your opinion and actively kind of distrusts - which isn't the right word but it's the closest one i have right now - you for having one which often leads to some nightmare social situations.
there's some more shit that goes in it for me but seriously on god it's really not worthy to be actively investing yourself in idk how the US government specifically restricts the rights of people who live in DC kind of because of racism but mostly because it's convenient. there is no reason why someone who's from idk fucking johannesburg should invest time and energy into caring about the ways DC is oppressed as a city. seriously why would you do that if you have no stakes. more importantly it's not worth to talk about the opinions you have if idk continuing this example youre an expat from johannesburg living in dc because you will probably piss someone off at some point. maybe to you there's an ethical or moral or some kind of emotionally benefit but again imo it does not outweight the inherent pressure and very emotionally complicated dynamic of being specifically invested and talking about it.
i'm self aware enough to know this would probably be different for me if i hadn't lived some specific experiences. and if the country i have / had the most interest first hand experience in was china. but thing stands its really not worth it seriously in my opinion.

Doing a little check-in/reflection now that I worked my way up to the end of August last night with the "10 years of sssn" thing.
First of all, what is this all about? I got into rwby/team sssn in 2017, so I've been around for a long time, but I actually just missed this sub-fandom's heyday, or at least only saw the tail end of it. So I consider myself a "historian" of the fandom, with an academic interest in observing the social phenomena as well as just my normal fan interest in the characters. Tumblr's reblog system has been really helpful for this: each reblog is a new instance of the post, rather than just an embedding of the original post, so if the original post or poster is deleted, I can still access the post. The tagging system also means I can easily find more posts on other people's blogs.
Since I care about this so much, I thought it would be really awesome and fitting to reblog posts on their 10th anniversary. That would've taken a lot of setup, though, so I never got around to it. Until last night, when I stayed up until an awful hour to get all of the 2014 posts ready.
I'm obviously not trying to get every single post there ever was. I'm not even getting every single post I've ever collected. And, I'm not even getting every post that I would have wanted to gather together if I'd had the time to be more thorough. There's also some other complications, like I've been blocked before by artists who I assume wanted me to stop reblogging their ancient art. (and by the way, my collection goes beyond what I have on this blog. I have a side blog where I collect pretty much anything I can get my hands on, even if it's not "good" or I don't "like" it, both for the sake of a complete picture and also because I can still use those old posts as a jumping off point for more deep diving)
I might still reblog some posts later even though they'd be "out of order," just to show that I think it's a good and/or significant post that I still want to celebrate reaching 10 years. For now though, I'm working on getting caught up to today's date with what I was immediately able to scrounge together.
Enough about that! Time for some actual reflection. This has been really fun and interesting to be honest, even though I spend a lot of time cataloguing stuff from this fandom and have a good grasp of trends, limitations from parts of canon not existing yet, etc, I still was surprised seeing it all put together like this. I don't know whether or not it's just because I spend the most time looking for Neptune posts, but it seems as though after he was introduced in July, he was given a lot of exclusive attention because he was new. I didn't expect him to be so much more prominent than Sun at this time. Of course, this is also exclusively to this growing sub-fandom (which, since it's pretty much lacking half of its characters, arguably hasn't reached the point where it can be called "the team sssn fandom" yet). To the wider fandom, Sun was probably still a more relevant character (and by the way, it is still surreal to see 2013/early 2014 content of him that was by himself, where his only other connection to other characters is with other Faunus).
We can also see the early beginnings of the fandom making things up about the characters in order to have something to work with. Before a name was revealed for him, people (or at least one artist) called him "Azure" just from seeing him in the trailer for volume 2. Now at the end of August, Sage and Scarlet are still in that same position, because they only exist as a still image in the opening. But for now (possibly, again this could just be because I focus a little more on him than the others), the attention is still on Neptune. I haven't seen anything mention it, but they would have actually known about Scarlet's name (and from what I know about the community they would have at least regarded it as a theory) because Sun tells Neptune not to go blab Blake's secret to Scarlet. I mentioned that without Sage and Scarlet, this sub-fandom hasn't quite solidified into its final identity, but their shared attention on a minor character is laying the grounds for it.
I don't really have a point to make by saying this, but I feel like it's worth pointing out that by this point most of the fans are still pre-existing RT fans and/or part of the target audience that rwby initially drew in. And since it's tumblr (and a large chunk of it slash), this is also the intersection of that demographic and the tumblr demographic. As rwby becomes more popular with volume 2, we'll see the fandom diversify a little bit, but it's interesting to see this stage. Another side note is that it's interesting to see a tumblr community during tumblr's prime. Not a lot, if any references to the sub-fandom or larger fandom's presence on other social media. There's not really a need to, I guess, because tumblr is still thriving and its culture is so different from other social media. And if I understand it right, twitter hadn't become the dominant fandom presence yet at that point.
I don't have a way to neatly wrap this up because I need to get ready to go to school NOW, but yeah that's all folks see you later!
