Contd Thread II @the-perfect-scientist
Tumblr media
"D'ya save some Christmas for the other customers?" Reynardine laughed as he eyed the amount of shopping that Carlos was carrying. How he hadn't dropped everything yet was a mystery, but he certainly spoke too soon as he watched the candy canes starting to slide. He immediately grabbed them before disaster happened, carefully tucking the box under his arm. "Here, let me take half before you drop everythin'." Taking some of the packages from the teetering tower, he stacked the candy canes safely on top of his own mini one and started following the other. It appeared as though Carlos had a productive shopping trip, wise enough to buy stuff early before the chaos of Christmas began. "Where's all this goin', boss?"

tsor with something blood-related after a fight?
Tumblr media
[combining these too!]
"My liege," Carlos said, walking into the audience hall at a clip. He was in full golden armor, his beard grown thick and lush, cape torn and dusty from battle and the journey home. He looked every inch the warrior king he was—more so with the blood splattered across his armor and face. Rather than mar, it only enhanced the mythical visage of him. "I come bearing news of our success."
Lando ignored every single nerve in his body that seemed to explode with a singular instinct: to run to his husband, to throw his arms around him, to check him for injury, to demand every detail of the battle Lando was unable to join because of his advanced condition. "Report, King Sir Carlos."
Carlos nodded, cleaning his brow of blood. Lando swallowed hard, his nails digging into the arms of his throne. Around him, their courtiers murmured, anticipating.
"Beloved," he began, and Lando's heart clenched, "we intercepted the enemy's plans before they were prepared for a counterstrike. Duchy Albon's intelligence was perfect. They were a force of 200, preparing to send small forces into all the major strongholds in Anglosax. Assassins."
Carlos snarled rather than said that word. The king-consort's disdain for assassins was well known.
Lando nodded, swallowing his emotions. "Prisoners?"
"Two. A grunt and a captain of one of these would-be forces. We have interrogated them, but of course, my king, they await your interrogation."
Carlos had a smile on his face, wry and without humor. Lando made a pleased noise; Lando may be a month from full-term, but he was still a king and still a knight. "Good. Casualties?"
"All of theirs. Some injuries on our side." Then Carlos sighed: "They killed the family in whose stable we found them."
Lando fist clenched. He made to stand, and his valets rushed to his aid, but his husband was faster: Carlos crossed the space between them rapidly and took hold of Lando's arm, his other hand supporting Lando's lower back.
"We will find that family's closest kin and compensate them," Lando declared, his courtiers nodding with approval. "We need to investigate any other Anglosaxons that may have been harmed by these scoundrels and ensure their satisfaction. We will send missives to our allies presently."
Lando's courtiers stood, murmuring, "Your Majesty," as Lando took his leave of them. Carlos supported Lando as Lando waddled towards his office, just off the audience hall.
Once the door closed behind them, Lando let the facade slip. He cried out and threw his arms around Carlos.
"Mi vida," Carlos whispered, careful of Lando's swollen belly, lifting him up and onto the nearest cushioned service. "Mi rey. I am home."
"Inside me," Lando whispered, and Carlos hesitated.
"I am covered in gore," he said, placing a hand on Lando's cheek. "I am filthy. Let me clean myself, and then I will give you what you deserve."
"Fuck what I deserve," Lando snarled, running his palms over Carlos' bloody face. Carlos' eyes widened as Lando then rubbed the blood onto his own face. "You will give me what I want. I want satisfaction for my people killed in cold blood. I want vengeance on those that would harm my dearest vassals. I want you to fuck me, and I want to know that the blood you will ruin me with belongs to my enemies."
Carlos looked at Lando's eyes, full of desire and demand. Then he unclipped the legs of his plate, keeping the rest of the armor on.
"Quickly," Lando commanded, begged, and Carlos ripped Lando's hose and tunic off in response. Lando gasped and nodded rapidly, letting Carlos swing his legs around his waist, his gauntleted hands cold and biting on Lando's skin.
Carlos pushed in with a growl, his restrained adrenaline exploding out of him in that moment of sundering. Lando nearly screamed with it, the roughness, the force of Carlos' entry, so good, so necessary. "Yes. Yes. Yes."
"I killed a dozen, at least," Carlos whispered as he thrust into his husband, and Lando begged Carlos for more. "In your name. In the name of our people. I killed them without warning and I do not regret it."
"Yes. Yes. Yes." Lando had his hands all over Carlos' armor, his hands filthy with the half-dried blood. He ran those hands over himself, over his bare legs, over his belly, so their child would know how their parents protected them. "Fuck me. Tell me. Fuck me."
"Every captain but one. The captive. Lando. I made sure I was the one to kill them. For you. Everything for you."
Lando came to that, mewling Carlos' name over and over, the taste of copper and violence on his tongue. Carlos' eyes were hungry as they looked over Lando.
"Bloodthirsty," he said approvingly, his hips still fucking into Lando, and Lando just whimpered at the overstimulation. He needed it. He needed it. "Look at you. A miracle, again, full with our child, again. Covered in the blood of your enemies. I would fuck you before the world but they are not worthy of your beauty, your glory."
Lando looked at Carlos and said, "Thank you for killing them." Carlos grunted and spilled himself deep inside Lando. "Thank you for giving me what I need."
"Always," Carlos said. His eyes softened as he panted softly, running his palm over Lando's belly. "Always. My love. I wish I had you beside me."
Damn his condition. Damn the heightened emotions.
Lando's eyes overflowed with tears and he exploded into sobs. Carlos quickly removed the rest of his armor and pulled his husband into his lap, kissing comfort into his forehead, rocking him as consolation.
They would never speak of Lando's bloodthirst in that moment again. But it would not be the last time Lando asked for Carlos after battle and adorned himself with the blood of his enemies.

Brazil Federal Police Sees Fraud in Bolsonaro's Vaccination Data
Investigation is regarding the insertion of false data on Covid vaccination into the Ministry of Health system
Tumblr media
The Federal Police carried out this Wednesday (3) a search and seizure warrant at the address of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the arrest of some of his closest former advisers. According to the Federal Police, the suspects allegedly attempted to insert false data on Covid-19 vaccination into the Ministry of Health system between November 2021 and December 2022.
In representation to Justice Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, the Federal Police points Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro's former assistant, as the main articulator of the scheme. According to the authorities, Bolsonaro was aware of the fraudulent entry of data into the system. "Jair Bolsonaro, Mauro Cid and, possibly, Marcelo Câmara were fully aware of the fraudulent insertion of vaccination data, remaining inert in relation to such facts until the present moment", says the Federal Police.
Mauro Cid and Luis Marcos dos Reis, former orderlies, Max Guilherme de Moura and Sergio Cordeiro, Bolsonaro's security guards, Ailton Moraes Barros, candidate for state congressman for the PL-RJ in 2022, and João Carlos de Sousa Brecha, secretary of the City Hall of Duque de Caxias (RJ), Bolsonarist stronghold in Rio and the place where the fraud would have been executed, they were all targets of an arrest warrant. Former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro is also being investigated. Investigators have identified two fraud attempts. In the last one, data would have been entered to state that the then president and the other beneficiaries would have been vaccinated and therefore be able to issue a vaccination certificate to travel to the United States.

hc + 🤕 for a pain-themed headcanon
Carlos frequently gets really bad migraine and tension headaches as a result of his previous head related trauma.
hc + 🚶‍♂️ for a habit-themed headcanon
When Carlos gets really stressed out or really scared, he has a habit of stammering out his words; the worse the stress/fear, the worse the stammering is.
hc + 👍 for a headcanon about things they like
Carlos really loves telenovelas (Spanish soap operas). He loves all the random plot twists and juicy drama, what can he say?
hc + 👎 for a headcanon about things they dislike
Carlos HATES going to the doctor or to the hospital with a passion. This hatred stems from his trauma mostly. It just brings up way too many bad memories for him, and he doesn't want to be constantly reminded that his mind and body no longer function like a "normal" teen's does. (A/N: I the mun am not trying to imply that deaf individuals are "broken" or "abnormal" for being deaf!! I only used that last sentence as a reflection of how Carlos feels about his gained disability and the everlasting harm his abuse caused to his body.)
hc + 💪 for a sport-themed headcanon
The only sport Carlos cares about is wrestling. While Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero were his favorite wrestlers, he did also love The Rock and Stone-Cold Steve Austin for how much they busted Vince's balls. He also really loves The Undertaker.
hc + 😡 for a headcanon about something that makes them angry
One thing that will instantly piss Carlos off is if someone is purposely covering/stopping his hands when he's trying to sign to them as a way to get him to verbally talk. Covering up a signing person's hands is the equivalent of someone coming up to you and putting their hand over your mouth to get you to stop talking. Not only is it rude as fuck to do, but sometimes Carlos doesn't have the energy to talk verbally, or his hearing aids aren't in his ears (he's canonically mute when he takes his aid out for reference) so signing is the only way he knows how to communicate.
hc + 👻 for a headcanon about supernatural occurrences
Carlos definitely has felt the presence of spirits before. Not to the point where he can physically see or touch them, but he can feel when the energy of a space shifts after a spirit enters or leaves.
hc + 🥣 for a food-themed headcanon
While Carlos can tolerate a lot of spicy food at once, he doesn't actively seek it out.
hc + ☕ for a drink-themed headcanon
Carlos doesn't drink soda except for ginger ale, and even then, he drinks it very sparingly.
hc + 🐈 for a pet/animal-themed headcanon
Carlos is an animal whisperer! He definitely has made the (not really) mistake of saying hello to a stray cat, calling it over to give it affection, and having said stray cat follow him for a while.
hc + 🌸 for a plant-themed headcanon
Carlos wants to have a garden of his own someday.
hc + 🌄 for an outdoor-themed headcanon
Carlos knows his way around Central City fairly well, but the suburbs are very much a form of uncharted territory for him.
hc + 🌍 for a travel-themed headcanon
Carlos would still love to go to California, despite the original escape attempt with Spencer and Tracy failing.
hc + 🗡 for a weapon-themed headcanon
Carlos 100% is a brass knuckles kind of dude. This headcanon is based on a piece of Freddy's Dead art that I saw, which used the official comic adaptation's art style, and it had the main cast holding weapons (except Spencer who had a video game controller in his hands) and Carlos had a pair of brass knuckles. I cannot for the life of me find this piece of art anymore, and ngl I'm kind of sad about that 😭.
hc + 🎡 for a hobby-themed headcanon
Carlos's hobby is doing volunteer work whenever and wherever he can. I feel like this would be the only way he's let out of the shelter for long periods of time (bc let's be real here the shelter acts more like a prison/halfway house than a traditional youth shelter). He just has to have some form of documentation proving that he was only outside of the shelter walls doing volunteer work and nothing else.

Alejandro Rey: Of Carlos, Casinos and "Cuba"
Alejandro Rey (1930-1987) was likely the first Latin-American screen actor I was ever aware of. The handsome Argentine played Carlos on The Flying Nun and is by no means to be confused with Fernando Rey, whose real last name was Arambillet, came from Spain, and is therefore not even a relation. Rey had been a star in his native country since the early 1950s, moving to Hollywood to appear in such…

A certain kind of calm has fallen over the outposts. After new arrivals, high tensions, power outages, and the world seeming to shift on its axis, at the end of the day, the world readjusts. And life goes on. Zero Zero may be considering their return home. Cair Mallplex has finally come to the calm after the storm. Though that's not usually how that phrase goes, is it? Featuring a rousing game of tennis, ghosts in the machine, and new names, depending on how you look at it.

“La luz en cada amanecer, mis días fragilidad”
In English (literal translation):
“The light in every sunrise, my frail days”
Listen not to be whatever on main but daaaamn, Carlos Rivera! 🥰❤️💕💞
The title means “you come back”
It feels like a really gentle song about someone you love who’s gone, but you still hold on to the good memories help you get through the rest of your life. Which is something I can relate to quite a bit.
I love Carlos Rivera but this is one of my favs of his along with Hijo De La Luna.
Sidenote: If you love the Lion King and/or Broadway and/or like listening to/can speak/understand Spanish I HIGHLY recommend checking out El Rey Léon (Madrid 2013). He’s hands down my favorite Simba in the role (and I have seen…… a lot of TLK Broadway videos). I listened to a couple of his songs prior to that but BOY he won me over big time with his performance fr fr.

“As if the matter of the supposed love affairs of the princess was not already complicated enough, there is an anonymous Italian relation "of the principal things of Spain, noted in Madrid in 1584", which asserted that Philip II had also been a lover of Doña Ana de Mendoza, and that her son Rodrigo, born in 1562 and later Duke of Pastrana, had been sired by the king himself. Don Manuel Fernández Álvarez took this allegation seriously, and also pointed out that later authors, especially Gregorio Leti, maintained that the king had imprisoned Antonio Pérez because the two had become lovers of the princess. But these later authors are the same ones who claimed that Philip had Don Carlos imprisoned because he had discovered an affair between his son and Queen Elisabeth! They are not reliable. As Nacho Ares wrote, in his biography of the princess: "The only remarkable one [historian]" who believes that Philip was Ana's lover "is Manuel Fernández Álvarez, but, like those who think otherwise, his bet is nothing more than a assumption hardly provable with documents”. And the only piece of evidence, apart from the anonymous Italian testimony, was the coincidence that the Duke of Pastrana, like the king, was blond!
True, Philip once said about the princess, “I have known her things for a long time” – and he wrote these words in a pejorative sense: “this is bad to believe, although if you can believe it of someone, it is of that lady” – but he never accused her of adultery or even of having an indecorous relationship with Pérez.”
Geoffrey Parker, Felipe II: La biografía definitiva
It seems that Gregorio Leti invented and claimed unfounded things about many historical figures.

Ramon Muntaner,  CRÓNICA CATALANA, p. 221
Beatrice was born (probably) in Palermo around 1260. She was the first child and only daughter of Manfredi I of Sicily and his second wife, the Epirote princess Helena Angelina Doukaina (“[…] et idem helenam despoti regis emathie filiam sibi matrimonialiter coppulavit, ex quibus nata fuit Beatrix.”, Bartholomaeus de Neocastro, Historia Sicula, in Giuseppe Del Re, Cronisti e Scrittori sincroni Napoletani editi ed inediti, p. 419). It’s quite plausible the baby had been named after Manfredi’s first wife, Beatrice of Savoy (mother of Costanza, who will later become Queen consort of Aragon and co-regnant of Sicily). The little princess would soon be followed by three brothers: Enrico, Federico and Enzo (also called Anselmo or Azzolino). With three sons, Manfredi must have thought his succession was secured.
Beatrice’s father was one Federico II of Sicily’s many illegitimate children, although born from his most beloved mistress (and possibly fourth and last wife), Bianca Lancia. Since his father’s death in 1250, Manfredi had governed the Kingdom of Sicily on behalf firstly of his (legitimate) half-brother Corrado and, after his death in 1254, of Corrado’s son, Corradino. In 1258, two years prior Beatrice’s birth, Manfredi had been crowned King of Sicily in Palermo’s Cathedral, de facto usurping his half-nephew’s rights.
Like it had happened with Federico, Manfredi was soon opposed by the Papacy, which didn’t approve of the Hohenstaufen’s rule over Sicily (and Southern Italy with it) and the role of the King as the champion of the Ghibellines faction. In 1263, Urban VI managed to convince Charles of Anjou, younger brother of Louis IX the Saint, to present himself as a contender to the Sicilian throne. Three years later, on January 6th 1266, the French duke was crowned King of Sicily by the Pope in Rome, thus overthrowing Manfredi. On February 26th, in Benevento, the usurped King then tried to get back his kingdom by facing Charles in the open field, but failed and lost his life while fighting.
The now widowed Queen Helena had previously fled to Lucera (in Apulia) with her children (Beatrice was now six), her sister-in-law Costanza, and her step-daughter, the illegitimate Flordelis, where she thought they would be safer. When they got news of the disaster of Benevento and Manfredi’s death, they fled to Trani from where they planned to set off to Epirus. The unfortunate party was instead betrayed and handed off to the Angevin. On March 6th night, Helena and the children were taken hostage and later separated. The Queen was sent at first to Lagopesole (in Basilicata) and finally to Nocera Christianorum (now Nocera Inferiore), where she would die still in captivity in 1271.
Enrico, Federico and Enzo were taken to Castel del Monte. Following Corradino’s death in 1268, Manfredi’s young sons (the oldest, Enrico, was just four at the time of his capture) were, to all effects, the rightful heirs to the Sicilian throne. It’s undoubtful Charles must have wanted them gone, or at least forgotten. In 1300 they were moved to Naples, in Castel dell’Ovo (which, at that time, was called San Salvatore a mare), under the order of the new Angevin king, Charles II. According to some sources, Federico and Enzo died there within the short span of a year. As for Enrico, he died alone and miserable in October 1318, he was 56.
As for Beatrice, her fate was more merciful compared to that of her mother and brothers and, for that, she had to thank her sex, which made her harmless in Charles’ eyes (as long as she was left unmarried). After being separated from her family (she will never see them again), the six years old princess was, like her brothers, held captive (although not together) in Castel del Monte. In 1271, she was moved to Naples, in Castel dell’Ovo, under the guardianship of its keeper, a French nobleman called either Landolfo or Radolfo Ytolant. Manfredi’s daughter is mentioned in a rescript of Charles dated March 5th 1272, from which we learn she had been granted at least a maid (“V Marcii xv indictionis. Neapoli. Like it had happened with her mother, and unlike her brothers, it appears Beatrice was treated with courtesy and respect. In her misfortune, she could count on the company of a fellow prisoner and distant relative, the daughter of Giordano Lancia d’Agliano, who was her grandmother Bianca Lancia’s cousin and had been a loyal supporter of her father, Manfredi.
On Easter Day of 1282, an anti-Angevin rebellion sparkled in Palermo would soon transform itself into a war to get rid of the so much hated Frenchmen, the so-called War of the Sicilian Vespers. It’s dubious that, close in her prison, Beatrice came to know about it. She might have also been surprised to know that her half-sister, Costanza, had been asked by a delegation of fellow Sicilians to take possession of what was hers by right (the throne) as she was their “naturalis domina”. Her rights were shared with her husband, Pedro III of Aragon, who would personally take part in the war and be rewarded with a joint coronation in November 1282.
For Beatrice, everything changed in 1284. On June 4th, Italian Admiral Ruggero di Lauria, at the service of the Aragonese King (he was also Costanza’s milk brother), defeated the Angevin fleet just offshore from Naples and took Carlo II prisoner. Being in clear superiority, the Sicilians could now demand (among many requests) the release of Princess Beatrice. Carlo’s eldest son and heir, Carlo Martello Prince of Salerno, could nothing other than obliging them. (“Siciliani autem , & omnes faventes Petro Aragonum, incontinenti de ipsorum victoria plurimum exultantes, Nuncios, & Legatos ad quoddam Castrum ex parte Principis direxerunt , ubi quaedam filia quondam Domini Regis Manfredi sub custodia tenebatur , ut dicta filia fine ullo remedio laxaretur , quae statim fuit antedictis Legatis , & Nunciis restituta.”, Anonimo Regiense, Memoriale Potestatum Regiensium. Gestorumque iis Temporibus.
Beatrice, finally free, left Castel dell’Ovo headed for Capri, where the Admiral was waiting for her. She had spent 18 long years in captivity and was now 24. From Capri she reached Sicily, where she was warmly welcomed and with a lot of enthusiasm, to meet her half-sister Costanza.
As the Queen’s closest free relative (both Pedro and Costanza had no interest in asking for Enrico’s release since, as a male, he had more rights than Costanza to inherit the throne), Beatrice had a great political value. At first, Ranieri Della Gherardesca’s name came up. He was the son of that Count Gherardo who had fought together with the unfortunate Corradino (the sisters’ royal cousin), and for that had been beheaded in Naples in 1268 alongside his liege. Finally the perfect candidate was found. Manfredo of Saluzzo was born in 1262 and was the son of Marquis Tommaso I and his wife Luigia of Ceva. Like Beatrice, Manfredo was strongly related to Costanza, specifically, he was her nephew since Tommaso and the Sicilian Queen were half-siblings (they were both Beatrice of Savoy’s children).
The marriage contract between the two is dated July 3rd 1286 and the contracting parties are on one side “la serenissima signora constanza regina dy aragon e dy sicilia e dil ducato de puglia principato di capua” and, on the other side “il marchexe thomas di sa lucio signore de conio una cum mạdona alexia soa moglie”. Tommaso declares that Manfredi will inherit his title, privileges and possession upon his death. If, after the marriage is celebrated, Manfredi were to die first, Beatrice would enjoy possession of the castle and some properties. The Marquise Luisa declares to agree with her husband’s decision (“[…] e a tuto questo la marchexa aloysia madre dy manfredo consenty”, Gioffredo Della Chiesa, Cronaca di Saluzzo, p. 165-166). The union was formally celebrated the year after.
Beatrice bore Manfredi two children: Caterina and Federico, born presumably in 1287 (“Et da questa beatrix haue uno figlolo chiamato fredericho et una figlola chiamata Kterina” Gioffredo Della Chiesa, Cronaca di Saluzzo, p. 185). In 1296 Tommaso died, so Manfredi inherited the marquisate and Beatrice became Marquise consort of Saluzzo. She will die eleven years later at 47, on November 19th 1307 (“Venne a morte nel dì 19 novembre di quest’anno Beatrice di Sicilia moglie del nostro marchese Manfredo, e noi ne accertiamo il segnato giorno col mezzo del rituale del monastero di Revello , nel quale leggesi annotato: 19 novembris anniversarium d. Beatricis filiae quondam d. Manfredi regis Ceciliae et uxoris d. Manfredi primogeniti d. Thomae marchionis Saluciarum, quae huic monasterio quingen- tas untias in suo testamento legavit.” Delfino Muletti, Memorie storico-diplomatiche appartenenti alla città ed ai marchesi di Saluzzo, vol III, p. 76). Her husband would quickly remarry with Isabella Doria, daughter of Genoese patricians Bernabò Doria and Eleonora Fieschi. Isabella would give birth to five more children: Manfredi, Bonifacio, Teodoro, Violante and Eleonora.
As of Beatrice’s children, Caterina would marry Guglielmo Enganna, Lord of Barge (“Catherina figlola dy manfredo e de la prima moglie fu sorella dy padre e dy madre dy fede rico e fu moglie duno missere gulielmo ingana capo dy parte gebellina in questy cartiery dil pie monty verso bargie.”, Gioffredo Della Chiesa, Cronaca di Saluzzo, p. 256). Federico’s fate would be more complicated. Like many mothers before and after her, Isabella Doria wished to see her own firstborn, Manfredi, succeeded his father rather than her step-son. The new Marchioness of Saluzzo successfully instigated her husband against his son to the point the Marquis. in a donatio mortis causa dated 1325, disinherited Federico in favour of the second son (Federico would have settled with just his late mother’s belongings), Manfredi (“Et questo faceua a instigatione de la moglie che lo infestaua a cossi fare.” Gioffredo Della Chiesa, Cronaca di Saluzzo, p. 224). Federico’s natural rights were later acknowledged by an arbitral award proclaimed in 1329 by his paternal uncles Giovanni and Giorgio of Saluzzo, and finally, an arbitration verdict dated 1334 and issued by Guglielmo Earl of Biandrate and Aimone of Savoy. As a condition of peace, the future Marquis should have granted his younger brother the castle and villa of Cardè as a fief. Stung by this defeat, Manfredi IV, his wife Isabella and beloved son Manfredi retired to Cortemilla. Federico died in 1336 and was succeeded by his son Tommaso, who would inherit his father’s rights and feud with the two Manfredi's. After being defeated by his half-uncle in 1341 (the older Manfredi, his grandfather, had died the year before), resulting in losing his titles, possessions and freedom, Tommaso would later regain what was of his right and rule as Marquis of Saluzzo.
