one thing i love about kh 'family tree' diagrams is it rlly drives home how little of the confusing 'who is who and there's two copies of this guy' stuff is related to family, which is i feel where a lot of that stuff comes from in other stories. you don't have a long lost dad, you've been possessed by this old guy. oops! there's no family legacy but you ARE a clone so gl with that! bbs eraqus situation obviously exists but even then it's not blood ties. the fact that blood ties almost universally mean fuck all is actually rlly endearing to me

FYI when it comes to trauma processing, sometimes one of the healthiest and productive decisions you can make is to ACTIVELY choose to avoid and not address an issue right now even if you "should"

Its easy to get caught in the "talk about it, use therapy productively, if you aren't doing anything, you aren't Doing Anything" and, while compulsive habitual avoidance typically causes temporary stagnation, ACTIVE acknowledgement that you are CHOOSING to ignore it and avoid it because you are CHOOSING to give yourself space and time is such a fundamental skill to emotional awareness, self regulation, self compassion, and rebuilding trust within yourself to maintain your own boundaries even when you feel that you "should" ignore them

Actively choosing to not address a topic at the moment is good practice at saying "I am not ready and I need more time and for that reason I am going to actively refuse to engage in this topic at the current moment" which helps so immensely at being more mindful of your own needs and emotional states which can be hard as someone with C-PTSD

Sometimes the best and most healing thing you can do for yourself is Nothing.

POV: You're Sora

This is a WIP I've been working on for the past few...idk weeks? I decided to practice working on CSP and I figured what better way than to try an animation. Especially, since it requires multiple passes over my same work over and over. This is no where near the end of the intended loop. I want it to go on - and show a wave of emotion evolve from fondness, jealousy, anguish, anger, to coldness & distance. In the POV of Sora kinda recollecting Riku's emotional evolution that (he feels) he neglected till now. And to no one's surprise, this was all inspired by music. Pls listen to this song and imagine the melodrama with me. Whenever I hear this song I always wanted to do something soriku with it.

I hope to finish this eventually. Im revising it little by little as I go. But im not used to working with a screenless tablet and im also relatively new to animation, so please excuse my slow work.

Unrelated, but related, I once had an art teacher tell me I was too ambitious. At the time, I told her "oh, thank you!" not realizing until idk 300 years later that she was trying to temper me back to reality. lmao. Well, I kinda get it now.

This took a little while, but here are the Destiny Trio (plus Namine and Repliku) with their ace Pokémon!

The different ages represent when the Pokémon evolved. I based each pose off of a trainer (or class), see if you can guess who I picked for who! (with the exception of KHI Sora because my brain only remembered what I was supposed to do after I lined his pose)

Sora: I was completely stumped as to what to give Sora. But when I gave Riku his Pokémon, I thought about giving Sora a psudo as well, and landed on Noibat, as they seem to be friendly and carefree dragon/flying types. I'd also like to imagine that Sora found his Noibat on the small island after a storm and nursed them back to health, and they stayed with him afterwards, only getting into a pokeball during the destruction of Destiny Island. I think that Noibat would evolve into Noivern during the final battle between Sora, Riku and Xemnas.

Riku: For some reason I imagine Riku inheriting his Bagon from his parents or relatives. He took care of them and often both him and his Bagon went up against Sora and his Noibat. Over the years, they both had to change and become strong enough to protect what matter to them the most. And yes- I chose Bagon for Riku because of its dex entry- of wanting to fly (wanting to explore other worlds), and eventually being able to after shrouding itself away (like how Riku hid himself from Sora)

Kairi: Originally, Sora had an Eevee, but I change it since I wanted Kairi to have a Sylveon. It all worked out since she has a type advantage over the boys! I see her Eevee evolving into Sylveon during her training with Axel.

Namine: I wanted Namine to have some kind of Pokémon that was lonely. Originally It was a Cubone, but I didn't think that'd fit, and I wanted to hold off on Smergal as well. I read the Pokédex on Galarian Ponyta, and thought it perfect, as they gaze into the heart of people, much like how Namine does the same to Sora.

Repliku: I imagine Repliku was just given a Zubat as a Pokémon by Vexen; just as a 'oh, here you go, kid'. That Zubat being a clone themselves (a la the Mewtwo clones). Repliku being Riku, I can imagine no matter the Pokémon, he'd treat and train them well, and thus they'd evolve into a Crowbat.

heres the thing abt kairi. i don't think she's poorly written, i think she's poorly executed. like there's a conflict/lack of cohesive vision for her and they're trying to shoehorn her into a role she does not fit.

nomura, from kh1, has clearly always wanted kairi to remain a link to the past/manifestation of fond memories of childhood/like a bittersweet hometown that isn't quite the same when you come back as an adult. that's the role he has consistently, persistently assigned to her. and there's nothing wrong with that. not every character ever has to take an active role and be a hero and do Things. sometimes characters exist to embody an allegory, or symbolism, or an idea. that was kairi, initially. embodiment of home, safety, comfort, childhood. for that matter, riku was the future, the unknown, growing up and letting childhood go. sora, of course, a boy coming of age and being torn between the two.

so consequently i've never understand the choice to make her a keyblade wielder when she's already a princess of heart twice over. like it or not the princesses of heart have an established role in the story and it's not fighting on the front lines. she could have been a leader and taken an active role in her own way if they really wanted, without ever needing to hold a keyblade and be a Chosen One, Also!(tm). in this way she also would have maintained a cohesive narrative role in the story. her path would still be diverging from sora's, and it would be as bittersweet and nostalgic as it was in kh1 without the clownery than her involvement in endgame kh2 onward has been mired in.

what clownery, you ask? kairi literally cannot grow as a person while in sora's orbit. we've seen it happen again and again, any growth she gets is away from sora and any time she's near him she regresses as a character. this is because, again, she is absolutely cemented in the minds of the writers as The Nostalgic Past that sora is holding onto. in the context of the kh narrative, she can literally be nothing else to him. there's no more growth to be had between them. hence, every time their relationship ends up the focus in a scene you can't help but feel the rapidly growing distance between where they once were vs where they now are as individuals. this relationship can, imo, ONLY be regressive to both of them in the context of kh's overarching narrative where kairi is constantly (and overtly) being framed as Sora's Idealized Childhood. or, as a prize he 'wins' when the story ends. the two are fairly connected in kh.

back on track, having kairi remain a princess of heart and not a keyblade wielder also would've solved the problem of the writing team having to shelve/fridge her every time they want riku+sora to go on another romantic getawa - uhhh adventure together. like she was asleep for a year post kh3? and now she's going to train with aqua while riku goes to rescue the love of his l - i mean bestest best boy friend again? you're joking.

it just stinks of trying to girlbossify a character so she can 'keep up' with her male counterparts in the eyes of media illiterate consumers who associate a lack of a weapon with a lack of power. dawg we're past that. female characters can be relevant, important, interesting and powerful without following in the exact footsteps of their male counterparts. and this is to say nothing of kairi's keyblade bequeathing being a relative accident and how it creates a pretty glaring plot hole because somehow xion and roxas, sora's nobodies, can wield keyblades at will but namine can't? okay. yes, perhaps we just haven't been 'shown' her wielding a keyblade. maybe. but i think it seriously indicates that they had no intention of making kairi a keyblade wielder in the first place.

and don't get me wrong, if they intended on changing/overhauling her role going forward i would understand making her not just a wielder but a guardian of light. problem is, they have already established she's not going to be fighting/active in the next game. she is, yet again, the home they are returning to and not the future they're moving towards. this, consequently, will continue causing some major tonal dissonance among those who either consciously or unconsciously recognize that kairi is not meant to be where she is currently placed in the narrative. she's SHOWN to be just a regular girl who still to this day does not particularly want to go adventuring, and yet we're TOLD again and again that she's a warrior now, riding on sora and riku's coattails regrettably. it's just so tonally off.

It's none other than Mrs Kobayashi's grandson Riku! Riku is the only relative who lives the closest to her, so he finds the time to visit outside his busy work. Training on the slopes can be intense and he's also a model from a popular agency, but he tries to come at least once a week. When he came today, his grandmother was so excited to introduce a girl to him! Well he's been single for a while and he loves meeting new people; of course he'd be happy to go on this blind date!

Synopsis: She didn't know when it started. She didn't know why it happened. By the time she realized it, it was already too late — Kujo Tenn wasn't the same caring and loving older brother that she remembered him to be anymore.

"T-Tenn-nii..." you whimpered, struggling against the confines of the metal cuff on your wrists.

You looked around his room, trying to find anything that could be of use to free yourself from the chains that held you in place. The reason why you're in this predicament? Your older brother, Kujo Tenn, was obsessed and very possessive of you. And it just happens that you were spending more time with your other older brother, Riku, than him. Because of this, Tenn decided to lock you in his room for himself; imprisoning you without any means of escape.

You never saw this side of Tenn. You know that he's sweet, caring, and kind, however, when it comes to you, he becomes more like a psychopath. He became a yandere. When you realize his sudden change of demeanor, you start to fear him unlike before. You wanted Riku to help you escape from him yet you are afraid that he would get hurt by the hands of his own brother.

You know all too well that a yandere can kill anyone—even their own relatives—just to keep their special someone to themselves, and only them.

You whimpered once again, trying to push away the tears that threatened to fall down your cheeks. Your eyes start to burn as your vision blurs due to the tears bubbling in your eyes. You're already reaching your limit; you don't want to experience this anymore...you want to escape.

"Riku-nii..." came your muffled sob. "...please save me..."

You didn't try to resist the tears that kept flowing down your face anymore. You're scared. And all you wanted is protection coming from Riku. Your frail body slowly fell into the soft mattress of Tenn's bed as you continued to sob silently, eyes becoming dull and lifeless as the minute passed. After a few moments, you heard the doorknob rustling and turning.

You didn't even look at the person who came in; you knew all too well who that person is. Kujo Tenn. Your yandere brother.

"[Name], why are you crying?" he asked softly, making his way towards the bed you are in after closing the door and locking it.

Your eyes made contact with your brother's lustful, magenta one. You didn't care about giving him an answer as you averted your eyes away and stopping your pointless cries. Tenn frowned at the lack of answer as he sat down next to you, only for you to move away from him.

"Why are you avoiding me, [Name]?" he asked with a hint of irritation in his voice.

You once again didn't give him an answer. Your attitude made him annoyed and mad, clicking his tongue as he harshly gripped your hair to make you look at him in the eye.

"Ah! T-Tenn-nii! It hurts!" you screamed as another batch of fresh tears came cascading down your cheeks.

"Hm~ I thought at first you were mute. But it seems that you can actually talk," he mused, examining your pained expression. "I love the expression you're making."

You glared at Tenn. Though he just smirked and snickered at your futile attempts. Using his other hand, he grabbed your chin and lifted it up. You tried struggling against his grip, but it proved useless when he tightened his grip on you, making you stop and yelp in pain. Tenn's smirk widened after seeing you so vulnerable under his hold.

"Don't try to resist, [Name]. It's futile," he whispered in your ear huskily. "I own you now. These chains would forever keep you imprisoned in my love."

Suddenly, you felt wet lips pressed against yours. Your eyes widened in shock when you saw your brother kissing you lustfully. You cried as you closed your eyes, the tears kept streaming down your face as your body fell limp. Your hope slowly fades away as you melt under Tenn's forceful kiss. It's already the end, huh?

If you could make a single (non-Sora) spinoff game, what would it be? Who would be your protagonist and what worlds would you like to see?

I think it would be super funny and on brand of the kick off to Kairi’s adventure was Ventus telling her to just runaway because it’s how he got stronger and it’s not like Sora planned his training regiment; So Kairi grabs what clues she has about Sora’s past adventures and runs off with Ventus because he’s not gonna explain to anyone where Kairi went. Also to help make sure she’s relatively safe. She even gets Namine to tag along so they can actually talk to each other for once.

It’s almost like going through a greatest hits album of Sora’s adventures, meeting a few of his friends and learning abilities along the way. I’d like to see Nightmare Before Christmas again and the sequel to The Little Mermaid. NEVERLAND IN MODERN GRAPHICS

All the worlds still have their own unique situations that while serious, aren’t as dire as before; more so on a 3DDD level minus the end. The real challenge comes from maybe after every other world plus some visits to Traverse Town, you bump into friends like Demyx, Lea, Terra, etc, who are trying to bring you back (on orders) and those are the real milestone fights where Kairi puts what she’s gathered so far into practice. With help she gets the better of them which is pretty impressive and it all builds to the final match when you return to Land of Departure. After hearing about all her progress, Aqua challenges Kairi solo to judge for herself.

It would be more of a lighthearted journey in terms of stakes, but emotionally rich with Kairi learning more about Sora as she trains and Aqua trying to figure out what kind of master she really wants to be. It’s also funny to imagine the secret boss just being Riku, who’s been busy following his own leads.
