It's been said before but I'm saying it again: being mentally ill and very self aware of it is extremely annoying because it's like:
My Brain: You are worthless and everyone is making fun of you.
Me: Uhh, no? I just had an extremely minor, low stakes misunderstanding, and everyone was very cool about it. It's fine. No need to panic.
My Brain: [immediately dousing itself in cortisol] You don't get to decide that. Now I'm cancelling all of the dopamine and serotonin. You can just sit there and think about your unforgivable error.
Me: Wildly unnecessary, but ok I guess

It’s really bold of me, a neurodivergent who struggles with rejection sensitivity, to want to be a writer— a career path forged entirely by rejection.

It is estimated those with ADHD receive 20,000 corrective or negative messages by age 10

the fact that Jesper is written to have aspects of adhd beyond the "haha he can't focus" part a lot of people tend to reduce it to is genuinely so important to me. AND that those things actually affect him and his self esteem realistically. he's not reduced to dumb comic relief that has adhd because it's quirky and gets diversity points, he's an actual character, and his adhd is an actual part of him, not a label they slapped on to make him more relatable.
he has time blindness, he's impulsive, he stims/fidgets (and i mean actually fidgets), he's forgetful, he has rsd, he has emotional dysregulation, and he has an addiction (people with untreated adhd are more likely to develop addictions because of under stimulation and seeking dopamine). he is a vibrant, real character, with real struggles that i relate to so deeply. he will always be so very special to me.
#for anyone wondering!#rsd (rejection sensitivity dysphoria) is#when someone recieves either actual or percieved rejection very badly which leads to shame#anxiety anger sadness etc and is not a formal diagnosis but is a common experience with people with adhd#and emotional dystegulation is also relatively common in people with adhd#and is when someone cant regulate the intensity and quality of their emotions#and bottles them up and/or has very strong emotional outbursts viewed as outside the social norm#i will provide examples of these if asked itll just take me a bit#jesper fahey#jesper fahey has adhd#six of crows#crooked kingdom#shadow and bone tv

Unfortunately my nervous system cannot tell the difference between the idea of someone possibly politely declining me and a nuclear bombing at my location.

Reblog if you’re a transfem who is shy and you fear abandonment, even when you know that your friends are amazing and would never leave you.
Or if you like pizza.

there is a person standing 73 yards some distance away, watching you. they look like they’re trying to tell you something. you can’t get away from them, nor can you get close to them. they’re just...standing there.
so your friends and loved ones try to help you by talking to them, and the person must be saying something to them, because they look at you differently now. but you have no idea what it was, all you hear is static.
you try to tell them not to listen to the person, but no matter what you do, no matter how much you plead with them, they look up at you with suspicion-hatred-fear and just run. they don’t care where they’re going, just that you’re not there. and you can’t do anything to stop it.
the more that the people in your life care about you, the worse it is, because anyone who tries to help is turned against you. so you are just gradually shut out of your own life by the people you love the most, until eventually you no longer recognize your surroundings.
there is a person standing 73 yards some distance away, watching you.

speaking to the babes with RSD: just because one person dislikes you doesn’t mean everyone does. just because a group of people dislike you doesn’t mean everyone does. it’s a reflection of them, not you. stay good. keep your heart soft. you’re doing fine.

I don’t think enough people talk about RSD (rejection sensitive dysphoria). Like, it’s so embarrassing, especially as an adult.
Sometimes, you need to be told that you were out of line or that you fucked up. And I want to take the reprimand/criticism and work on it.
But instead I have to try not to cry and then go cry when I’m alone and keep thinking about it the whole day while swinging between anger and self hatred.
Like damn. My nervous system does not need to be reacting like that
