" hey! look at me! i'm fine... see? "
Wanda wasnât taking any chances. As soon as she had seen Stephen, she had rushed towards him, grabbing him and looking him over for any injuries. It didnât help that he had on thick robes, which meant if there were any small injuries, she wouldnât be able to see until he got undressed. Hearing his words, she gazed up at him, the panic clear on her face, though she did try her best to calm down before she spoke.Â
âYeah but... that wasnât.... you got hit and...â she stopped herself, tears already welling up. âI was scared Iâd lose you.âÂ

Blades of May 13: a great sword whose blade is from the late Ming Dynasty, but which was rehandled for (probably) civilian or martial artist use nearer the Boxer Uprising

Because Iâm building Iris and Iron primarily as a setting instead of as the prerequisite for a planned story, I get to add all the ideas I randomly think of.
Such as recently, my friend and I were rehandling a machete onto an axe handle (cause we could) and we were discussing the vibe we were going for. He thought itâd be more elegant cause of the nicer handle. An elven kinda thing. I thought it should be more rugged cause itâs a top heavy, kinda rusty machete.
I backed up my idea by basically saying âMy thoughts were, the people who used this kinda weapon were like a group of feared guerilla fighters. They fought in the brush and trees and used makeshift weapons they cobbled together from looted parts. I called them the Brushers.
He liked the idea and we went with that.
Now the Brushers are part of Iris. I donât know where or how they fit yet. But I am very happy with them already.
Their name was absolutely taken from Bastion though. Great game, play it.
(Song: Brusher Patrol by Darren Korb (from the Bastion OST))

Have you ever made a knife/knives out of a broken pair of scissors?
Yep. A good pair of shears or pruning shears is already good steel that keps an edge so all you gotta do is seperate em then grind the back and rehandle. They have chisel edges which are flat on one side. No forhing needed at that point.

DISCLAIMER: I bought these tools with my own money paying full price on Amazon. No one has paid for or coerced my opinion in any way.
Here are two Bradford pear spoons (one symmetric and the other right handed).
I had an online conversation about the quality and usability of certain mass produced tools and the Ukrainian company Hutsuls came up. I said that I own the $20 set that has the 3 knives, gloves, honing compound, strop, and canvas roll-up.
I promised to make a spoon using just that set.
1. This is using a Bradford pear branch that came down in a storm a month or two ago, and has been anchor sealed and sitting in my shed.
2. I put a sharpening on these tools using just w&d sandpaper glued to plywood, and honing compound on leather. They will be meeting the diamond and ceramic plates soon, and I will be adjusting some backs and bevels.
3. The handles are unmodified as are the be els and blade backs.
Here are my findings. They are absolutely worth $20.
The slöjd knife is 2-1/4" so it is more like the Mora #120 than the #106. If you hold them side by side the blade looks almost exactly the same.
The spoon hook knife is right handed. It has the sharp point like the old style Mora #164. And I can only assume the strong semi-circular shape is akin to the older style Mora #164 although I don't actually own one of those. So it differs from my current Mora #164's semi-carotoid shape. But it is similar in shape. It is also, a thicker blade material as well.
Thirdly it also includes a detail knife 1-5/8" long and 1/4" wide. This was a new tool to me. It goes around corners quite well.
Overall, all the blades cut well and held their respective edges. Through the two spoons I honed the hook knife about 5 strokes on green and 5 on pink. Tho other blades never felt like they needed it.
All that said the only "con" would be the handles. They are flat with some rounding. Hotspots and blisters. Enough said. Need wrapped or rehandled. :)

WE HAVE TO REHANDLE EVERY TOOL!!! also I said nothing untoward about Mr. Jake of PCTA fame just that he's an outlier and literally every trails partner I've worked with thinks that hazel hoes & grubbers are superfluous, and that you should always have multiple pulaskis in your cache. smh
being a little fledgling trail worker and seeing a pulaski in your comic (which was beautiful!) made me so happy i said.. I know him !! also sort of unrelated but i got to work for a sponsor who was also trans lately and it made me really happy to see there's people like me out there doing what i want to do with my life . also! Every pulaski enjoyer i know is so so into the pulaski and i am so bad at it lol
YOU KNOW HIM!!! đ„Čâ„ïž & I totally get what you mean - getting to work with queer project partners as a crew lead was such a joyful experience! There are so many of us out there working trails. & don't give up on Missus Pulaski! It wasn't my favorite tool for a lot of my early trail work days (roadhoe was my first love) but it really, really grew on me! I love how versatile it is in both cutting/digging/prying/etc. I also appreciate that the tool head is generally heavier, which lets you really use that weight to pack a punch on digging.
#literally the biggest criticism I got from government workers about the corps we worked for is that we have a stupid amount of grubbers#and not enough pulaskis. to the point where the FS folks i worked with#would always plan to bring extra pulaskis to project sites working with corps crews LOL#i simply think you are wrong đđđ smh#beckett.txt#tool discourse

@rehandles liked for a starter
It was all over.
Now that everything had come to a standstill, the adrenaline was beginning to ebb away, a rush of exhaustion taking over, and Bucky found himself dropping down onto a piece of rubble to catch his breath, pushing his flesh hand through his hair. There was so much to take in. The battle alone was a hell of a lot to process never mind the whole âweâve been gone for five years and now weâre backâ thing.Â
Yeah, he was probably going to spend a while processing all of this.
Individuals were scattered all around the area, talking, recovering, holding each other. Steve was somewhere, heâd seen him a few times during the fight. Sam was somewhere too, neither of them seemed to be too badly injured. Small blessings, he supposed.

1. Wanda was pretty shy around Strange to begin with. Although they hadnât really had much of an interaction in the past, she knew of him and his power so he did intimidate her ever so slightly.Â
2. She loves getting to cook for him, getting to try out new recipes as well as some that she remembers from her mom. Though she does let Wong have rein of the kitchen occasionally.Â
3. Their first kiss was a little unexpected on her end but she didnât pull away. After it, she didnât bring it up until a week later because she had to make sure she hadnât dreamt it. Not only that but it led to her worrying due to having lost the only other love she had been close to
4. Wanda is definitely a fan of having him close, whether that's sitting reading together or curled up on the couch. Her favourite is laying in bed, either resting her head on his chest or being the little spoon.Â

TRY + wong from doc strange >:)
SEND Â TRY + A CHARACTER Â YOUâD LIKE TO SEE ME ( ATTEMPT ) TO WRITE !
"What do you want, Strange?"
Wong asked, his expression as serious as ever as he looked up from the book he was reading in the library. Stephen often tried to make him laugh, but he had failed doing so so far. He took his position as librarian very seriously, which showed.

@rehandlesâ continued from here âąÂ
ăăăăCarter knew better than doubt the master of the New York Sanctum, but skepticism was part of her personality. Believing without seeing wasnât her habit, aliens as well being creatures whose existence she hadnât deemed real until the day they had invaded Earth, following one of Odinâs sons. STILL the air around them did seem to change drastically the moment they entered the place. Silence almost deafening, a shiver ran instinctively down her spine. Sharon ignored it, gesturing for Strange to follow her down the alley. Gun in hand, Sharon knew the gang was probably conducting his deals in the basement, but it was rather weird how no-one was guarding the entrance.
ăăăă« Somethingâs wrong. Itâs too quiet in here. » Whispering, she didnât need to have magical powers to sense that. Turning on a small flashlight to clear the thick veil of shadows in front of them, Sharonâs brows furrowed when noticing red liquid painting the floor in small and larger droplets. « Something got here before we did. » Or maybe, something never LEFT.

"A day or thereabouts. I was starting to think you weren't coming back," Wanda responded, trying her best to pass it off as a joke rather than the truth. She glanced down at her bowl, hoping that the other wasn't watching her in that moment. She took another forkful, letting herself get lost in her thoughts for a few moments while they were both silent.
As Stephen complimented her cooking, she could feel a slight flush rising in her cheeks. It was one thing seeing someone enjoy her food, it was another having them tell her that it was good. Raising her gaze to meet his, she grinned slightly.
"Thank you. It's one of my more...classic dishes so I seem to have mastered the flavours," she replied, almost shy to admit to herself that she had done well with the pasta. "I'm glad it's helping though."
illbringthechaosmagicâ:
Wanda played with her food for a moment before digging in, waiting to see whether the other liked it. She wasnât used to cooking for other people which meant that, though she seemed unfazed, she was worried something would be wrong. Though when there was no complaints, she let out a soft sigh of relief and took her own first forkful.
âI thought it might be,â she smiled, her gaze locked on the other as he spoke. âAn emotional plague? SoundsâŠ.â she paused, thinking of the right word to say, âominous.â
âIt was about.. a day maybe,â she gave a little shrug, not wanting to worry him or let him know that she had been a little worried for him. After all, as much as she didnât mind being alone for short bursts of time, she much preferred having someone else around to keep her from her thoughts.
âA day?â Stephen echoes, a mix of awed and⊠disturbed, to be frank about it. He eats another forkful of noodles, but only to ruminate on that thought as he chews. âI see.â
It couldnât have been more than two or three hours that heâd spent directing the little slugsâ desolate creatures of the sixth dimension that consume the happiness of third dimensional beingsâ from a highly populated public high school back to where they came from. The students and staff had been relieved almost instantly when they were gone, but the understanding that Stephen had essentially spent twenty-four hours working non-stopâŠ
âThe weakness makes more sense now,â he murmurs, more to himself. âSo does my hunger.
âWhichâ â Stephenâs head lifts slightly, his expression mildly sheepish as he realises heâd forgotten something incredibly important â âby the way, is being comforted significantly by this pasta. I almost canât believe you made it taste so good in so short a time.â
And then he eats another bit of it.

Hammer time!
On the left you will see my newly rehandled toolbox sledgehammer, the handle originally held a very old nine pounder, but the eye end had some rot so I cut it down a little and put it on a 6 (I think) pound head. I jokingly called it a backpacking hammer but nobody else laughed.
On the right you may behold Mjolnir! Jr. I used to have a 16 pound head on a 14 inch handle that I called Mjolnir, unfortunately I made the mistake of leaving it on my porch overnight and it wandered off. But I saw this 8 pound head on a 12 inch handle at a yard sale and decided it would have to be my new Mjolnir.
#i should have polished up and painted the small hammer head before I rehandled it#oh well I will do that right next time#hammer time!

The sledge is done! It is an Atha Tools (sleuthing by @w_squared2) 14 pound, strait peen blacksmith striking hammer. I paid ~$5 for it at a salvage place and it took all of an hour to clean up and rehandle with a hickory handle I have had for too long. I cut a wedge out of walnut and the smeared the head and handle with @axe_and_anvil. The overall length is now 25â and I put it on top of my 110 pound Swedish anvil for a size comparison. Now I just have to con someone into being my striker... #reuse #riddlesteel #sledge #oldiron #rehandle #betterthannew #blacksmith #athatoolco (at Seattle, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-VyFhrDKDF/?igshid=1oodjky75yp02

#makevember day 5: Sharp. Whatâs the definition of insanity again? Doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results? Usually my day isnât that, but I do tend to do the same things over and over again, so I like to lateral my brain and hands every so often. The Spyderco Pingo was designed by one of my favourite industrial designers Jens Anso @anso_of_denmark. It was one of my first encounters of an ID professional outside of the academic realm and I have followed him for quite some time. His designs are unique and uniquely human. The Pingo was a response to the very strict knife laws in Denmark, a sub 2.5â blade, non locking and requiring two hands to open. The now discontinued Pingo felt kind of âcheapâ, with glass fibre plastic handles, they didnât do it for me. So, I made new ones out of G10 composite, blue, JUST so I can call it my Bingo Knife. My most proud feature is the inclusion of the pocket clip slots, which I manually milled in with my vertical milling machine. Next to it is another Anso blade, the Rock Lobster, which a couple of weeks ago I modified to fit my hand. #makersgonnamake #ansopingo #spyderco #pingo #spydercopingo #handle #rehandle #handleit #g10 #knifemaking https://www.instagram.com/p/B4faCfVAtCE/?igshid=1s86ove2vghzd
