I got hold of a cheap little driver in London for £15. It's rated for 200W peak power, 40Hz-10kHz (so sadly not much high frequency once the lamellae are attached!) I removed the rubber sleever and the dust-cap

Next I used some grocery-store plastic sheeting (what they put up promotion signs/prices with) that can be moulded using hot water. I used a metal grille bent into a curve to make curves out of the plastic, then cut them into roughly the right shape. I made the paper shape guide by just rotation a ruler held at one end - this was totally eyeballed and could've been done much better, more precisely etc.

Then I attached some sticky-backed weather stripping to each of the lamellae (aka petals), and used double-sided tape to stick them onto the speaker cone. I used a log with a notch cut into it, attached through the speaker magnet's central hole with a long screw, to hold the tops of the lamellae.

Then with a bit of wiggling and more double-sidede tape I attached all the lamellae together at the top. I used some washing up gloves cut into strips as (very makeshift) gaskets to mostly seal the gaps between the lamellae. Again, I used double sided tape to do this. To be honest that was the most fiddly part. Washing up gloves cut with scissors are not an ideal Radialstrahler gasket material!

And there it is! It doesn't sound terrible on its own, but as the driver is only rated up to 10kHz (and who knows what impact the radialstrahler build has on the theoretical frequency response!) I had to wire it in to an old bookshelf speaker's tweeter to get a bit more high-end.

I'll make another post with a few more videos of it playing, along with some discussion of what I've learned so far to take forward to the next prototype!

What does worship and prayer mean

When I made a shrine for my MA grad show at an art school, I was trying to go against the idea of spectating art, I wanted to embrace an idea of art as a spiritual lyf practice, an offering to community, to the earth, the self and ancestors. It was an open space dat me and my community became very protective of, and we exercised so much from the space!!! It was very playfully spiritual, filled with offerings in form of objects and food and flowers. ‘sacred’ objects that became sacred because of the intentionality of the space… The space generated music, which was poetic prayers that formed into rememories of worship. I realized that simply reorienting a language of spirituality and intentionality around the day to day of my life totally enhanced and revealed new yet ancient belief systems. I started calling processes rituals and I started being more intentional with my words. I began this practice to the point that the very action of my self care, my dreaming, my creative practice and longing for space became the prayer and worship. Music also served as a great channel for this, I found it especially in jazz and reggae music that allowed for an ascension into my self (and therefore my roots). My own room became my shrine, signified by material representations of my soul and all the elements, I found myself entering portals and chasing magic. I’ve found little miracles in people, my dreams and the environment, observation is worship and prayer is the lyric to such a life

Y'all have asked, and Dr. Meat Muffin might be a disgruntled old hag that chugs too much Trader Joe’s bourbon and doodles too much subpar art, but she keeps her promises!

Just so y’all know, if you’re a major character (Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, etc) you keep your name, because it was drilled into Doug’s head over 8 seasons of Clone Wars and the movies. Everyone else, though, Doug gave up and created his own catchphrases for them.

CW: This one's not as spicy as Doug's previous rants regarding Star Wars, but y'all know if y'all know. "It'll all come out in the wash."

Plo Koon: Ah, Shrimp Daddy. He looks like a shrimp that’s been boiled and left in the sun after a potluck. But my wife LOVES him, she says he has the nicest voice and she wishes he’d narrate some books. I loved him too, he was my favorite. Kit Fisto: Reggae Swamp Thing. Tell me that boy don't look like he lives in the Atchafalaya and bangs on the steel drums all day. I wonder if he stole those shorts from Michael Phelps. He’s cool but does he need to have a tank to swim in on his ship? Does he have gills? I need more info on this guy. 

Adi Gallia: Storm’s Cousin. Doesn’t this chick look like her? She does, right? Maybe she's a Jedi cause she can't control the weather. Didn’t Maul’s brother Saul impale her on his horns and that’s how she died?* Why didn’t Maul do that to Obi-Wan? Maul was obsessed with Obi-Wan, do you think it’s because he had a crush on him after he sliced him in half?

(Doug also ships Obi-Wan with Maul now? IS THERE ANYONE WHO DOUG DOESN'T SHIP OBI-WAN WITH?!)

Shaak-Ti: Ahsoka’s Aunt. They’re totally related. (“No, they’re not.” “Says who?” “Um, EVERYONE?!”) She’s cool, nice to the clone boys. I like her horns. 

Saesee Tiin : Angry Bull Boy. He looks like a minotaur whose daddy left him at a Wal-Mart instead of the Labyrinth after drinking too much.

Deepa Billaba: My Coworker Anu. Seriously! She looks JUST LIKE HER. I even texted her a screenshot, and she used that as her Slack Channel picture for the longest time. Nice lady, she's a good master to Lil Kanan. Hm, Lil Kanan sounds like a rap person my niece would listen to.

Ki-Adi-Mundi: Mutant-Mall-Santa. Look me dead ass in the eye and tell me the man don’t look like he was supposed to hand out presents and ask kids what they want for Christmas and ended up hanging out in toxic waste instead. He's a snotty asshole, I don't like him, he thinks the sun comes up just to hear him crow.

Luminara Undali: Lady-in-Drape. She’s a green lady, and she wears a drape. Meat Muffin, I'm tired and it's about to snow.

Barriss Offee: Little Lady-in-Drape. Man, she was awful, but she had good points, ya know? Kind of like Darth Maul. Do you think Darth Maul and Obi-Wan ever dated? Or would Obi-Wan’s boyfriend get jealous? 

Quinlan Voss: College-Hippie-Boy. Doesn’t he just look like one of those goofs that fart around with hackysacks all day long? I'd buy weed from him if he was selling, he looks like an exporter and consumer, if you know what I mean.

LAST SONG? – Born Slippy by Underworld has been on pretty constantly for the last week or so while I've been writing my fic of the same name (check it out here if you haven't already https://archiveofourown.org/works/58271047/chapters/148392448). I have also been on a bit of a late 2000s recession pop revival so Sexy Bitch by David Guetta was on before that lol, I think 'Your Woman' by White Town might have been on before then? I was also at a reggae bar earlier so whatever they were playing there though I do not recall anything i recognised.

FAVORITE COLOR? – Pink then blue then purple. I do not fuck with warm colours any which way.

CURRENTLY WATCHING? – Big Brother UK season 5 (from 2004, its absolutely incredible TV and makes me miss home so much and if anyone spoils it I'll scream) Durarara season 2 because I was Ikebukuro last week and the Final Destination movies (currently done 3 out of 5)

LAST MOVIE? – no word of a lie.... Dune (1984) in a random cinema in Japan (because they decided to show it four days in a row?) It was incredible, the folding time scene on the big screen in 4k is a religious experience.

SWEET/SPICY/SAVORY? – Spicy then Vinegary if thats an acceptable answer, ideally very spicy and very acidic, I like food that makes me hurt. Kinky I know.

RELATIONSHIP STATUS? – Tragically for the lot of you....taken. 7 years this September and that makes me feel very ooooold. (yes i have made him watch all the dune films (and the sci-fi channel show) several times)

CURRENT OBSESSIONS? – The Our House universe lol. Also the Evangelion Tarot cards that I saw in the Eva shop and I neeeeeeeed, The Summer Hikaru Died, The House of Leaves, thinking about what might have happened to Damien Nettles and finishing all the endings in Fear and Hunger 1 and 2.

LAST THING YOU GOOGLED? – Details of a Psytrance Festival happening a couple of weeks from now lol (it's not necessarily my favourite music but it's happening in the mountains outside of Tokyo so I'll fuckin bite haha)
