Crowley's Regency clothing: trousers
(This post has been updated Sept 19, 2024)
Tumblr media
A large number of writer woman-hours were devoted to researching Crowley's and Aziraphale's clothes. (Why? You'll find out in mostly chapters 5 & 6. Update: okay, and 7....)
Tumblr media
Over his left hip there, his buttons all line up nicely- the decorative button on his tailcoat, red double-breasted waistcoat, and narrow fall trousers all in one line. The same is true on the right side. (YES that's why there is a closeup picture of Crowley's trousers, and for absolutely no other reason, why would you even ask that?)
Tumblr media
Crowley's trousers in S2:E3 minisode "The Resurrectionist" are called "narrow fall", as in the right side of the above illustration. (Aziraphale's appear to be the wide fall variety - those on the left of the illustration - from what I can tell.)
This is kinda important for Stunning View readers (cough). The below pic shows how the trousers fastened with the fall flap down.
Tumblr media
From the Good Omens promo pics, it looks like Crowley's trousers have 5 or so buttons on each side of the flap instead of the single one shown above. And we never see but he'd presumably have some buttons beneath that holding the waistband together in the middle like the row of 5 in the above photo.
(But in Stunning View we're going to assume there are fewer buttons in the middle than that pic. It's creative license, shut up.)
In case you're curious, I didn't just take a lazy out by calling what they wear on their legs "trousers". Hours of research went into that conclusion. (I got *this* close to going with breeches, but was dissuaded by various evidence.) But the time wasn't all wasted, I did get to add two historically accurate words to one particular chapter: "narrow fall". *WINK*

Crowleys version of my Regency portraits! :p
I like to think that Aziraphale keeps this tucked away somewhere, maybe he likes to look at it when he’s missing a certain demon 👀

💖Happy Valentine's Day💖 This was my trade for the @goodomensafterdark Valentines Exchange, some ineffable husbands during the regency era. A little bit of spicy nakedness but still very mild Let's hope this soirée gets them somewhere 😈

Early 19th century sketches have such a distinct quality to them, it's so hard to capture! A sneak peek from the AU I am working on, where a modern-day Aziraphale comes across a trunk of old letters and diaries...
October 24th 1821 Disaster! I must hurry and source a new copy of Pride and Prejudice before my trip back to Oxford, lest Angel notice the incriminating red wine stain marring the inside pages. I cannot say if it is his fury I fear more, or the smug expression he will wear when he realises I have been reading it. November 2nd 1821 Arrived in Oxford today. He knew immediately about the book. How he grinned and crowed about it for an entire afternoon! A dreadful, awful bastard. I love him terribly.

a clandestine meeting interrupted c. 1861. the ladies crowley and fell found conversing unattended in the parlour without chaperone nor candlelight, who both seemed flushed and annoyed to be found out by other party attendants

Crowley's Regency Clothing: Waistcoat
Tumblr media
Stunning View!
CROWLEY'S RED WAISTCOAT MAKES ME FERAL. And it took many writer woman-hours to figure out it even is a waistcoat. A supposedly official source I found called it a corset. It's not (though men from this time period *did* wear corsets sometimes - but under all these other layers); it wouldn't be visible. The bottom right picture of David BTS makes it very clear as a waistcoat since you can see his shirt sleeves and the black panel of material on the back of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's so overlapping/ crazy looking peaking out between the lapels of his tailcoat! And that's largely because it's double breasted, and has BIG notched lapels (see bottom 2 pics especially).
Tumblr media
Tiny Laudaddy shows off the full front of the waistcoat really well!
Tumblr media
I especially love how the costume designers put it together so there's a little border of red peeking out below the tailcoat. 🔥

My good omens 1814 Crowely cosplay, from the regency picnic a few weeks back. Everything is based on dresses from the era and made by me less the glasses and parasol. plus some grumpy photos with ducks and me with my friends aziphale look.

The year is 1809. Crowley’s friend Jane is a master smuggler of both goods and information who seems to know exactly who people are and how they act. She asks Crowley’s help with a larger robbery she has been planning, and Crowley agrees without hesitation. Meanwhile Aziraphale has been helping her friend, a brilliant author Miss Austen revise her novel manuscripts in the hopes that they could one day be published for the wider audiences. Aziraphale finds the books witty, innovative character studies of British gentry, but getting a romance novel written by a woman published in the early 1800s would take a real miracle.
When Aziraphale accompanies Jane to a ball, they run into Crowley, and all three are surprised by the other two being acquainted. Although the angel and the demon are happy to not poke further into each other’s businesses with Miss Austen, Jane seems to be convinced her two friends are in the middle of a great love story like from one of her novels and need some encouragement to admit their true feelings.
Words: 10,400
Status: Complete
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
