Hello!! breakdown of Choir Cosplay!! This is not really gonna be a step by step but a general vibe of what I did to make this cosplay :) To note: I haven’t sewn anything since I was in highschool which was 8 years ago, so a lot of this is like a ‘ya that works’ - make improvements where I could not :p Overall I wanted the cosplay to not be an exact copy of what is in game, personally I prefer more fitted clothing so I went close to my size with the pattern. Fabric: I used an ivory polycotton, ivory satin and black cotton. 1. I started hunting for a pattern that at least captured the vibe of the choir garb. I had split up the garment in my head into 3 separate parts: The base, the capelet, all the extra fancy bits. The big concern when picking fabric is I didn’t want the garment to be translucent, which is a problem for lighter coloured fabric. BUT!! I found that I didn’t have to make a lining and could instead flatline the fabric - where you cut double the piece and stitch them flat against each other - making it both thicker and opaque!

I found this pattern by Gunnar Deatherage on Etsy (as a beginner I loved this pattern, it’s very in depth and easy to follow)

I did not use the sleeve pattern from it, instead I made my own to have the right fall and size.

Use the sleeve cap from the pattern so it can attach correctly to the bodice/back pieces - then where the sleeve starts to become longer draw out diagonally on both sides. For length I used the original pattern and went slightly longer! :) I used the same pattern for the peplum sorta top section and again for the skirt on the bottom. It creates a stitch line along the front but it’ll be covered by the belt!

Use a grommet tool and punch some holes through your fabric - make sure they line up. Roll the sleeves to roughly where your inner elbow is and attach another piece of fabric around the width of the roll - pin it in place. Hand sew the corset pieces on and the other piece of fabric so it is all secure :) Thread some similar coloured lacing to the fabric through the holes. 

2. The belt! (My mum helped me a lot on this and was my voice of reason) Originally I had bought an elasticated belt with a clasp, but it didn't work at all and ruined the fall of the garment.

I chopped off the end of the belt, leaving me with some elasticated ‘fabric’ and the clasp. Measured my waist and cut out a thick piece of fabric twice and one piece of iron on interfacing. The measurement I did with the base on and added slightly more for both seam allowance and so there was breathing room for myself. Put the clasp piece on either end of the fabric and sew it all together! :)  (marks are from the paint of the chain rubbing off onto the fabric :P)

3. The caplet!  For the capelet I used this tutorial                           Easy DIY Capelets | For Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas🎃🍂🎄          (The only issue with this is I couldn’t get my head around how to attach a non circle collar) Ivory polycotton + Ivory satin used. Doing the base of this is pretty straightforward with the tutorial - it’s just a circle skirt but for your neck. If you want to be evil to yourself, you can do what I did and hand sew bridal applique all around the garment. If you can machine sew it please do :p I went for a big swooping shaped applique in ivory - any gaps I had were filled with more applique  ​​https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/628065500/beaded-sequinned-lace-flower-wedding?click_key=d8b4937d8079ab34b301cf2d4dc7fbd0d6ede960%3A628065500&click_sum=81fb49a9&ref=shop_home_recs_1 I used poppers on the base and the cape to attach them together - it kept choking me if i didn’t  4. The collar - made me want to cry ngl I could not figure out for the life of me how to attach a non circle collar to the capelet (which is how I wanted it). Instead we have a removable collar!! I copied the size of collar from one of my own shirts and followed these tutorials                           TWO PIECE COLLAR TUTORIAL | KIM DAVE                                     How to Sew a Collar and Collar Stand Easily by Sew Sew Live     5. Graduation hood???? For some reason you can’t just buy these in the UK without paying £30, so I made my own Cut out double for the pieces around your neck and one for the ‘hood’ part Gather the ends of the rectangular piece and attach them to the other pieces!

6. The Fancy back panel piece Measure from mid shoulder blade to the bottom of the garment for the main rectangular piece. Cut out two other rectangles of the same width coming into an arrow shape. Sew them all together and start sketching on the design. The great thing here is you can make it up, because it’s too complicated and nobody is gonna look at it and be like ‘u did it wrong’ I used a fabric medium and gold metallic acrylic 

Once it’s all done, I machine sewed it to the back of the base garment because it’s hidden by the cape.  7. THE REST Chain: Me and the chain belt had a fight - Originally I used metal chain,, but I’m allergic to some metal and can’t deal with the smell,, I switched to a plastic chain with 2 D Ring clasps - had to sand it down but the gold spray paint loves to flake off. If I knew about it before, I’d use EVA foam chain :) Black pieces underneath: I bought a turtle neck and a long black skirt :P but you could make it as a dress or smth! Purchased long black velvet gloves, a pocket watch and a key necklace (I didn’t want to use a censer - and they are v expensive/idk how to make one) Ribbon + brooch: I bought chunky soft blue ribbon and found a vintage brooch on vinted 

The mask: If you have contacts you’d probably be fine, but I don’t and this mask messed with my depth perception and balance so I had to take it off so I could wear my glasses :( 

Use buckram plastic mesh - the thicker kind, used for fursuit eyes and in black! You can see out but nobody can see in. I made a mock up with paper but sorta looks like this shape :)

Eva foam pieces cut out into swirls and filigree like shapes, glue it onto the buckram I did a base coat in grey over the entire thing and painted it with black, gold and bronze acrylic! I hole punched and put the ribbon through it so the mask could be tied around my head.

If you’re making the mask and hat - I’d attach the mask to the hat so it’s one piece :)  Where I went wrong/what I’d improve I wish I had been able to attach the collar to the rest of the garment. There is a gap that appears between the collar and the caplet/base at the back (mainly due to gravity and it moving) that can be annoying, since my hair is on the longer side it was covered but still I wish it wasn’t there. I’d also want a bigger collar! I’d not use satin as a lining for the skirt and capelet - it’s so annoying to use and it’s so slippery Maybe would not hand sew all that applique because it took me over a week :P  BUT OVERALL for a first cosplay, it’s pretty good! I’m mostly happy with the outcome and it was one of my dream ones to do! :) I hope this helps, I didn’t take photos of all the steps unfortunately but hopefully it makes sense :)

adkafjdlfjd listen!!! i literally read a whole backlog of Gunnar stuff, got super emotional, started two playlists (one for Gunnar, one for Gunnar & Summer), but did i remember to actually come back and answer this ask?? uuuhhh lmao whoops! but hey i remembered now so that’s what counts, right? ;D

since i love and miss my dear good good boy, Gunnar, i pulled a couple of bits…

obviously, i have to pull from the ol’ classic Crossfire. it was my first big piece with Gunnar after the rp was shut down. and, funnily enough, the majority of the piece ended up in Summer’s POV instead of Gunnar’s! but i think this snippet is a good indication of why…

As Gunnar turned his head to look at her, his breath cut short as something quite heavy and cold dropped onto his heart at the sight of her in the doorway. He grew sick with panic. He wished she’d just ignored him when his name appeared on her cellphone screen. Wished that she’d left him to catch his death out here in the cold, because at least he would have deserved that. Instead, his heart was left to compress further as he shriveled under the burden of her wide, worried eyes like he was some wretched creature.

Swallowing hard, his weary gaze followed Summer as she took measured steps to his side.

“Gunnar….Are you okay?”

He shook. Not his head or anything, just shook.

Summer was silent for a moment, before she sucked in a hissed breath through her teeth and exclaimed,“Where is your jacket? Why are you standing out here in the cold anyway? You do know there’s a lobby, right?”

“I, uh,” he stammered, his breath curling from his lips in a white wispy cloud. “I’m fine…?”

Summer frowned and placed her hands upon his folded arms. The shock of her warmth drew another wispy cloud from Gunnar’s lips as he finally realized just how cold he truly was – frozen right through – and he wanted to pull Summer closer, bury his face in her hair and let her warmth thaw him. He wanted to whisper that he wouldn’t do her any harm – not tonight, not again like so many times before. He wanted her to leave him in the cold.

“Come on, let’s go inside, okay?”

“Y-Yeah,” and he shook.

….Gunnar is an incredibly conflicted character and Crossfire, in particular, touched on the moment in his life where all these threads and lives he’d been trying to keep separated, that he’d been trying to escape from were colliding and tangling and catching him. & Crossfire ended up mostly in Summer’s POV because I found it hard to put myself fully in that mindset. Gunnar desperately wants love and approval but vehemently believes he does not deserve it. People can genuinely enjoy his company and genuinely care about him and it goes right over his head. I like to think I managed to capture an essence of that in Gunnar’s stretch of POV in Crossfire.

and for my second choice, i gotta pull from that beautiful space outlaws au. while the original post that sparked the au will always hold a dear place in my heart, my favorite part of this au quickly revealed itself to be the family unit of Andrew, Celeste, their daughter, and Gunnar, the young wannabe outlaw they adopted. so, my choice is this unnamed piece where Andrew bails Gunnar out of jail for the nth time and then adopts him more or less. while i adore the whole first scene of this piece since it’s a Gunnar POV that touches on his anxiety without me feeling like it drags down too much, i chose this sweet lil family moment because c’mon!! look at ‘em!!!:

[Andy] sighed, waving Joanna off to the car, before turning back to Gunnar,“You’re coming. That, or you may feel free to walk yourself back into that jail.”

“Are you blackmailing me into having a family dinner with you?”

Andy’s lopsided grin was answer enough.

“Geez,” Gunnar griped. “This is beginning to feel a lot like a kidnapping.”

Andy rolled his eyes and cuffed Gunnar on the back of the neck,“Get in the car, kid.”

“Yeah, get in the damn car!”

Gunnar blinked.

Andy’s face fell.

Joanna, with her ‘scolding’ finger still pointing towards Gunnar, beamed triumphantly.

Gunnar couldn’t decide which was funnier: the nearly robotic way Andy turned his head to look at his daughter or the pained ”Don’t tell my wife” he directed at Gunnar afterwards.

It was so, so much more than Gunnar deserved – a family with whom he could laugh when he’d already ditched his own – but, as he laughed, scooping up Joanna and ruffling her hair, he decided that, at least for tonight, he’d try to be easier on himself.

Hey boo, it’s me again. Write the blurb you thought of at work today. The dad Petey one

You wince slightly as the Oiler player slashes at your husband. It had been a pretty rough game so far, for the Oilers at least. Elias had two goals already and was playing phenomenally.

"Owie," the little boy, Oscar, on your hip muses, eyes not leaving the ice. His head rests on your shoulder and it appears he's close to falling asleep. You can tell he's fighting to keep his eyes open but is unable to pull his gaze away from the ice.

His twin brother, Olle, looks up at you from the seat beside you. "Pappa hurt?" he asks, blue eyes twinkling with the potential of tears. He's definitely the more sensitive of the two twins, even at almost two years old, their personalities are so different.

"No, pappa's fine," you smile reassuringly, free hand going to stroke his cheek in comfort.

There's a roar from the crowd and your eyes are pulled from your son to the ice. Your grip tightens on the tiny toddler in your hands as your husband is grappled to the ice.

Elias bounces back up, you're not expecting what happens next. Elias is the most level-headed man in the world and suddenly his gloves are thrown to the ice.

"Mamma?" Oscar inquires, his eyes are wide and he looks worried. You can't find the words to comfort him, the shock has taken over your body.

Hanna, Quinn's fiancee, moves to your side as Rach, Brock's girlfriend, pulls Olle into her arms. The family box is enveloped in a quiet bubble. The other ladies can feel the worry radiating from your body and are waiting for your reaction.

The fight is quick, with both players getting their licks in. Elias managed to nail the other player twice in the face with a decent force. The refs finally manage to separate the two players and lead them to their respective penalty boxes.

Your jaw hangs open. You can't believe what just occurred. The toddler in your arms is staring persistently at you.

“Mamma okay?” Oscar asks, hand coming up to hold your cheek. It’s a sweet gesture and much appreciated, but you still can’t seem to process anything.

“Pappa bad. Pappa have time out,” Olle tells Hanna, who tries to contain her laughter.

“That’s right, Olle. We don’t fight. Fighting gets a time out,” Holly leans over your chair to smile at the little boy, before turning and giving a ten-year-old Gunnar a serious look.

“How about we go get popcorn?” Rach asks, holding Olle’s hand and reaching for Oscar.

Brain still processing, you hand her the little boy and let her and Holly escort them out of the suite. Hanna moves closer, arm reaching out to pull you closer to her.

“Are you okay?” She asks, tentatively as she takes in your shocked look.

“I have no idea. Did my husband really just fight?” You watch as a little smile breaches her face.

“He sure did,” Em, Nils’s girlfriend, laughs from where she has joined your little group. “He pretty much annihilated Yamamoto.”

You can’t help as the laughter takes over your body. “He did, didn’t he?” Your laughter grows until most of the ladies are laughing with you. It’s a sight to see as you’re practically in tears from laughter and being held in Hanna’s arms.

The game ended in an excellent Canucks win. You lead the twins down to the changing room hallway.

They stood beside you, eagerly awaiting their father to exit the dressing room. Olle hugs your leg as Oscar talks his ear off. You've got a hand carding through Olle's hair as you listen to Em, Rach and Hanna review your plans for your girls' weekend getaway.

"So Elias is fine watching the twins this weekend?" Rach wonders aloud, knowing the answer already.

"Elias might kick me out of the house just to get these two to himself for a weekend." You laugh, smiling down at the boys. Their blue eyes, identical to their father's, twinkle as they look up at you smiling sweetly.

"My favourite set of twins!" Brock smiles, as he walks out of the changing room, hair wet and suit slightly wrinkled.

The Sedin twins turn from where they stand to your left, talking to Jim Benning. They throw a quick glare at Brock.

"Come on, guys. They're kids." Brock laughs before squatting in front of your twins. "Did you enjoy the game?"

"Played good, Uncle Bwock." Oscar smiles, hugging his godfather. Olle nods along, tiny hand gripping yours and hanging on a bit. He swings his body away from Brock, indicating he's getting tired.

"Pappa," Olle cries out, running towards your exhausted-looking husband.

Elias's forest green suit still looks pristine, which is expected as he always hangs it perfect before getting changed. There's a bruise forming around his eye and he looks like he's in a bit of pain.

Both little boys barrel into his legs, hugging him tightly. He bends down, slower than normal. He winces as he finally gets down to their level. Elias picks both twins up, kissing their cheeks and gets a small smile on his face as they rest their heads on his shoulders.

Elias makes his way over to you, twins in arm. He makes his way over to you, lips pursed, silently asking for a kiss. You oblige him, leaning and cupping his face. The kiss is quick as he winces at your touch.

"That's a sick bruise, huh?" You tease, hand patting his chest.

"Pappa bad. Pappa have time out." Oscar mumbles into Elias's shoulder.

You both laugh at the sweet little boy, it was clear he was trying to chastise his father but his sleepiness had overtaken his body.

"Pappa was bad, but he promises not to do it again, okay?" Elias tells the boys, adjusting them in his arms. He looks down at both boys, trying to reassure them that it won't happen again.

Oscar and Olle both nod from where their heads are now buried in Elias's neck.

"Guess we should get our boys home." Elias smiles, nodding his head towards the exit.

When I was writing the names of Aspen's siblings, I used the name Rowan because it had to do with plants. All his siblings are named after various plants. I had completely forgotten abt it until I opened the character ref sheet I wrote up a couple months back, lol.

SO HEY lemme tell you about my OCs! XD

This is Willow Ironwood from Fallout 76. A running joke is that everyone in that world thinks Willow is a girl’s name. Willow was born in Vault 76, got forcibly ejected on Reclamation Day, and hates the Outside. He’ll deal with it, but he really just wants to go back into a Vault. Outside has stuff trying to kill him, and bad climate control, and weird food that you have to kill or pick, etc. If MODUS said “yeah you can come live in the Whitespring bunker” Willow would be on it like stink on rice.

Willow has a lot of stories posted to my Pillowfort but I should collect them and get them onto AO3.

Oh, I should note, before Willow, there was Gunnar Volk in Fallout New Vegas, who has his own novel at https://archiveofourown.org/series/1248389. FNV’s character models suck, so here’s some fantastic art of him done by @gearlic:

Then there's Rowan, from The Outer Worlds, whose story I’m working on editing to get onto AO3.

Rowan is an anxious mess, compared to Gunnar who is decently confident for an amnesiac, and Willow who’s sort of drifting through life as he wants to get back into a Vault. Rowan often isn’t sure what’s going on and feels perpetually three steps behind, but somehow he’s the Captain and at some point he just knows everyone’s going to figure him out for the imposter he is.

Now I’m finally getting into FO4 and I downloaded a ton of mods for it, and then decided welp, let’s stick with the tree theme I guess, and thus I have Linden, who snuck out of the Enclave where he grew up and he’s going to go prove himself and take over the Wasteland, unless he discovers the True Meaning of Friendship at some point. (I mean, it’s certainly possible)

So the tree naming theme was kind of a coincidence at first, and probably Linden will be the last of them. Even Rowan wasn’t the first name choice for the character, I was playing with Roman and Ronan and finally just went with Rowan.

You probably think, "Oh, It's a ref of Rusty from stex!" which is correct but not at the same time. Although they look the same, Starlight Express Rusty and my series Rusty are different entities. Even their personality is the same, but they are two different entities. Even their stories are similar, but they are different.

So to be clear, Rustymane is NOT canon to the musical. He is only canon in my series. Starlight Express Rusty IS still canon to the show. Rustymane (or simply Rusty) is just a character I wanted to write in a separate story other than stex. Same thing with Gunnar/Greaseball.

Although Stex Greaseball is canon to the musical, Gunnar from my series is not. They both have the same name of Gunnar, same personality, and looks, they both have a different story.

In my series, there will be some callbacks to stex, like a starlight like goddess I have named Astra, which I will explain about the goddesses of my series later.

Idk if I will ever write down the story, but I got it somewhat formulated in my head.

Hope this clears up some confusion, because Rusty will be introduced in my series.

For your character meme! Why not Pike, Gunnar and Fenris (and for a ship maybe Vex/Percy? :D)

answered!, but I’ll add one on here that I left off from that one ;D

Struggle with Her Religion/Goodness, A big facet of Pike’s character is that she comes from this Trickfoot line, a heritage of scoundrels and liars and ne'er-do-wells, and has been “chosen” essentially by this goddess of redemption to prove herself different. But, Pike’s not perfect. She’s not an angel or a saint. She struggles with anger and forgiveness as much as anyone, and it’s always been a part of her character that I love. Kindness is not easy. Making the conscious choice to be good takes strength. & Pike - she does her best.

Gunnar

Family, Gunnar’s relationship with his family is not only one of the most important aspects of his character arc but also deeply informs most - if not all - his actions. Gunnar had an oppressive upbringing with an emotionally abusive mother and an emotionally absent and honestly just absent father. Being both the eldest (by some years) and a boy (which reminded his mother of the son she’d given up before him), Gunnar felt the brunt of his mother’s abuse for years, and he willingly accepted the burden for the sake of his sisters. He practically raised them, since his mother was so beyond reason in his youth. He would do anything for them and still would. All of this childhood trauma is why Gunnar has trouble connecting with others in both senses - emotionally and physically. It’s why he’ll carefully package up all his baggage and repression to hell and back when his sisters are around to be strong for them and why, despite the fact that they are family, he can never truly be completely open with them.

Don’t Break Character, Everything’s an act to Gunnar. If you’re not his family, his Lady, or one of the few people he feels safe enough around, then you don’t really know Gunnar. He has a character that he plays. Someone who’s charming, collected, and free - unlike him. (Someone who also calls everyone ‘darling’, but that’s a whole other thing). Gunnar lives with a philosophy of “No one can truly hurt him if he’s not, well, him”. It takes a lot to break through to the real him, and even once you have, it takes a lot to keep him - the real him - still there.

Self-Sabotage, Gunnar’s worst “line of defense”. He would rather ruin something himself than let it ruin him. In a fucked up way, it makes him feel in control.

A Sense of Security, This is especially important when writing Gunnar when in scenes with other characters. Some might call it ‘trust’, but - for Gunnar, how safe he feels with a person determines how open he will be. If he trusts you, then he’ll be far more likely to let his overemotional, shaky self loose, but the more he doesn’t, the more likely he will fall back on his Don’t Break Character act.

Fenris

Past Abuse, Obviously, this is a HUGE part of his character. Due to what Danarius did to him, before Fenris met Hawke, he only ever knew the life of a slave and a runaway. That fucks with a person - to put it lightly. It’s always important to me while writing Fenris to not overlook how his abuse informs his actions in the present whether it’s his trust issues, his anger towards magic, or even smaller but no less important things like his self-care and sense of identity.

Trust, Another obvious one, I feel. When writing Fenris in a scene, especially one with a lot of characters, I want to consider how much he trusts each of them. Around Jakk, perhaps one of the few people in his life he fully trusts, Fenris is going to be far more open with his emotions and physical affection. Fenris has a soft-heart and a lot of love to give, but with all that’s been thrown at him in life, he’s not willing to give until he knows his feelings, thoughts, concerns will be validate, if not returned.

Moving Past Anger, Fenris’ character arc was all about him coming to terms with the anger he felt about what was done to him and how much it made him unhappy. It’s why Jakk, despite his usual ‘let others do what they will with their lives’, could not help but step in and stop Fenris from klling his sister, because he knew that Fenris, who wanted so much to not be angry anymore, would never forgive himself. Funnily enough, a Percy de Rolo quote comes to mind: “I do not want to die who I am. I want to live long enough to be someone else”. It feels apt for how I approach Fenris and his motivations. For me, I see Fenris as wanting to move towards nurturing, whether it be gardening or teaching, as he moves away from his anger.

Perc’ahlia (did my best to keep it as spoiler-free as possible, but there are a couple in here!)

No Judgement, [muffled Julia Michael’s ���Issues’ playing in the bg]. Percy and Vex both have their fair share of issues and baggage, but neither of them would ever judge the other for their trauma and what it has or will cause them to do. They understand each other.

Ride or Die, Vex has vowed that she would fight for Percy’s soul against hellish demons, if need be. Percy told Vex that if she became evil, he’d be cool with that. People have often drawn parallels between them and The Briarwoods. Delilah was willing to break the world for her beloved, and Perc’ahlia show a similar devotion to each other.

Percy Only Listens To Vex™, self-explanatory, really. Words of pure truth from the mouth of the great Vax’ildan.

Forgive, Both Percy and Vex strive towards forgiving their abusers. Vex with her father and all of Syngorn that ostracized her in her youth. Percy with The Briarwoods and Ripley. Not for their abusers’ sake, but for their own, so that they can be happy without the burdens of that anger. The fact that they together are working towards that similar goal is just one of the many reasons they are, let’s be real, soulmates. “That’s the key, isn’t it? It’s the only way to really grow.” “I think so. It’s the only thing I’ve tried that’s made any sense so far.”
