Let's Be Besties 😊
In beautiful Toronto, where we didn’t get to see the eclipse due to overcast weather, but having a blast speaking and networking at the largest conference for fundraisers, AFP ICON. I was so excited to join Neon One as an ambassador for the launch of their most recent research report, all about recurring giving.  The “Let’s Be Besties” movement aims to get the word out about the strategies and…

New donors needed to help keep Scarleteen’s queer, trans and gender nonconforming sex educators going!
Tumblr media
We, the queer and trans, staff & volunteers at Scarleteen spend the vast majority of our time giving support. We very actively maintain a friendly and accessible website full of resources, advice and information, and provide a caring, safe and patient environment in all of our direct services. We continue to make a massive contribution towards sexuality education as a whole, as we have for the whole of our 25 year tenure. Everywhere we go we receive thanks from educators and service workers for the motivation we, and our founder Heather Corinna, have given them to do incredible work in their communities. However, for our daily survival and our dreams of the future, we need support too!
Unless our current trajectory changes we will not have the funding this year to give our volunteers end-of-year stipends to reward their generous efforts, nor bring our codirectors’ wages any closer to industry standard or even industry average rates of pay for their positions and tenure - averages which we continue to undershoot by quite some margin, nor will we be able to reimburse those staff for the many hours they have worked in excess of their basic 30 hours a week. We will also be unable to increase their healthcare benefits which for one disabled member of our team, will have been exceeded 4 times over by actual healthcare costs by the end of the year, which they have had to pay for out-of-pocket.
As part of our annual Pride celebration we are asking you to consider becoming one of the 50 (and fabulous) new recurring donors we are determined to find this week! Please consider supporting a few good queer & trans people to help us continue to deliver queer sex and relationships education, info and support, which remains free and open to all.
Recurring monthly donations of $10 or more are part of the treasured community of donors who give us peace of mind like nothing else can. We will need a further 250 recurring donors at that level or the financial equivalent to keep us on-track for our most modest projections through the coming years, so whatever help you can give us today to exceed our initial target of 50 will be cherished by us more than you can know.
Here’s some ways to help:
If you can become a new monthly donor, please do! We would love to welcome you to our valued bunch of fabulous supporters!
If you are already a donor, please consider tacking on an extra $10 per month, even temporarily, if you can!
If you cannot currently afford to donate an increased amount, or cannot donate at all, please consider reaching out to someone who you think can, so that eventually we can find that new donor. (And if you manage to sign someone up, do let us know so we can thank you!)
If you only want to or can give us a one-time donation we will still be incredibly grateful for that help at any level. We know a thing or 12 about deep financial limitations and having to choose very carefully where you give.
Please go to scarleteen.com/donate to begin your monthly donation, or if you have further questions head to scarleteen.com/contact drop us a message.
Thank you once more for your support and for being your queer/trans/allied/otherwise-awesome self,
Yours sincerely,
The Scarleteam …
of Scarleteen: queer sex ed for all since 1998❤️

anyone else obsessed with the recurring theme in TTPD about how in each instance with the three notable muses referenced, they each made a show in their own way of stepping up to Be Someone for her, only to completely cut and run (whether physically or emotionally or both).
The first love who laid on the charm offensive, "I'm not an organ donor but I'd give you my heart if you needed it," sweeping her up in this great big first serious adult love, inspiring all of the dreams that go with it, making her feel like This Is It and the actions undertaken as a result. But then bailing at the first sign of inconvenience, leaving her distrusting of her own feelings and instincts.
The longtime partner with whom she built a foundation against all odds, the one with whom (or perhaps rather for whom) she meticulously placed those stars on the ceiling. The one who at one point painted dreamscapes on the wall and sparked her darkest nights, the one who chose her mess and said there was nothing that could stop them, the one she believed in so completely she crafted a whole life around, but then accused her of abandoning the ship when he had long since metaphorically and physically left the house on the Heath.
And then of course the final boss level, the infatuation from hell who saw all this and said "I can be the one that none of the others were" and insinuated himself into her life and her consciousness until it felt real, only to vanish after the ploy did its damage.
(Of course, it's all contrasted by a fourth party with whom the trust and dreams come freely and solidly.)
It's just a fascinating study in how patterns keep repeating themselves, not only in a person's choice of partners but in people's behaviours in general. And how so much of the album is not just about specific situations but also globally about the pitfalls of relationships and dynamics and how we choose to believe. TTPD album that you are.

🌙 In love with this new illustration from koidoodles!✨
Koi says: "To celebrate Black queerness (and at once queer Blackness) is to celebrate the multitudes of life. In much the same way that the sea's beauty is enhanced by the world it reflects, or how the sky is not just the atmosphere but the clouds and stars and all that it holds, there is unique vibrancy in appreciating intersectionality. To me, to be Black and to be LGBT are two important parts of me but not two separate concepts. There is overlap, they affect each other.
I see this in myself, and on a much grander scale in the way Black culture and queer culture are both enriched by Black queer people, who all deserve to be celebrated and uplifted for who they are.
I hope this piece reflects some of the peace and warmth that can be found in taking time to celebrate your own intricacy as well as that which exists all around us.” 💜
PS: If you sign up to be a recurring donor to support LGBTQ+ youth during Black History Month, we'll send you Koi's exclusive postcard-sized piece as a thank-you for free. Win win, no?

Fury as Kamala Harris' failed campaign fund is still charging donors recurring fees
Kamala Harris stunningly ended her 2024 presidential campaign leaving Democrats $20 million in debt.
But her defeated campaign's joint fundraising committee is still charging supporters recurring donations that were set up during the vice president's bid for a promotion, according to a new report from Politico.
And many feel seeing the continued charge on their credit cards adds salt to the wound of an already stinging loss.
The Harris Victory Fund did not seek donors' explicit approval to keep withdrawing cash after the 2024 election on November 5, 2024. Rather, an email claims they would continue seeing the charge 'until you contact us' to stop it.
A staffer who worked on former Sen. Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential campaign says that the charges are 'super shady' and called it a sort of 'grift.'
They disclosed how Romney's campaign immediately canceled all recurring donations a few days after his election loss to President Barack Obama.
Tumblr media
'These people didn't sign up to be paying bills in January,' the former Romney staffer claimed.

i said i would make an actual post about this and my irls are sick of me talking about it on ig i’m sure but i do think it’s really really important that people know how much abortion funds are struggling rn on both the local and national levels. after the dobbs decision in 2022 there was a huge surge in donations to ab funds and a lot of them were able to expand their budgets as a result which was amazing. but that money is gone now, it is not being replenished on anywhere near the same level, and abortion access is MUCH more expensive than it was two years ago. these funds don’t just pay for abortion procedures (the cost of which has also gone up btw), they also provide direct support for flights, gas, hotels, because for people living in half the states in the US these are now crucial factors in their ability to access reproductive healthcare. the two biggest national funds (NAF and planned parenthood) have both capped their assistance for individual callers because of the demand, which in turn puts even more strain on local funds to close that gap. so basically if you’re trying to get an abortion as a US citizen today there’s no guarantee you’ll legally be able to in your state, the procedure will be more expensive and it’ll be harder to get an appointment than it was two years ago, and despite you paying what could easily be thousands of dollars to access essential healthcare, where you could have been fully funded by NAF in 2022, these orgs are now only able to pledge 30% of your total cost. funds in my state that have monthly budgets in the tens of thousands are having to close their helplines after two hours every week because of the insane amount of need. granted i live in a state that experiences unique demand as the first access point for many people living in southern states with abortion bans, but we’re not at all unique in the inability to keep up with the amount of people seeking help.
if you gave money to your local abortion fund when dobbs dropped, i guarantee no matter where it is that fund is now overwhelmed with far more demand and much less money than they had in 2022. and abortion funds are some of the only organizations you can donate to and be absolutely certain your money is going directly to people who need it—we’re a very small org but at the last budget meeting for my local fund we literally had less than $30 allocated for anything other than abortion support the entire fiscal year. two years ago people were giving “rage donations” in anger about the future injustices that would happen when abortion bans became widespread, but those things actually ARE happening NOW and there’s a really simple way you can make a small dent in a massive national crisis and it’s by becoming a recurring donor or volunteering for the abortion fund near you. as a country we’ve decided to just accept that women don’t have the right to full bodily autonomy in half of the US but you don’t actually have to accept it, you can stop numbing yourself to the grief you experienced about the end of roe v wade and contribute materially to slowly building that right back up again. and these are the places that are doing that: https://abortionfunds.org/find-a-fund/ and they really need your money

Identity V New Character Release
Fire Investigator (Florian Brand) Poster Preview
Tumblr media
As Florian grew up, he heard the regrets of people around him many times - for the accidental fire, for his parents who were willing to risk their lives to protect him from the fire, and for himself who had to live in an orphanage after losing his parents. When the director told these stories to the donors again and again, they would all sigh together, feeling this selfless love and praising the miracle of life.
Perhaps this is indeed a miracle that inherits love. In the dreams that recurred in countless late nights, Florian witnessed the scene of that day repeated again and again - the flames devoured the parents who stayed in the house... He finally chose to believe what the adults said: the love of his parents was still with him, it just melted into the flames. Only in this way can the pain of separation and death be alleviated, and those lingering dreams are no longer torture, but a kind of companionship, guidance and enlightenment.
Florian, who learned to cooperate with the performance, received more sympathy, and the donated funds followed. His proactive attitude and seemingly serious and responsible personality made him selected by the administrator as the manager among the children. This kind of life continued until a new fire broke out. The flames were difficult to extinguish and swept through the orphanage. Florian ran back and forth in the fire and rescued many children and managers.
Florian, who was almost an adult, was widely reported in the news for this fearless act. He left the orphanage and was successfully hired by the fire insurance company. In addition to the routine report on the cause of the fire, Florian would participate in the most dangerous rescue work as long as he could get to the fire scene in time. The courage and determination he showed in the face of fire, as well as his rich experience in fire prevention, made the rescue success rate of the block he was responsible for ranked among the best, with few casualties... Even though the fire rate in this block was also very considerable.

Space Marine Husbandry AU - Aethon
Previous - Next
Content Warning/Trigger Warning:
Bullying, Threats of violence
The Pull
As he waked up to regular beeping a groaned. The lights were too bright and the air smelled clinical.
"You had an allergic reaction to some of the blood we gave you. You were very lucky we could find a compatible donor in time."
The baseline human doctor told him while pointing to a young human in the chair next to him. They looked tired if the bags under their eyes was any indication.
They looked up at the Night Lord apothecary from before.
"Can I leave soon, I still have lot's of work to do in the server room." Aethon didn't really understand why he felt so strongly protective and worried about the baseline that apparently saved his life.
"You have to stay here for a while longer, Odysseus. We had to take a lot of blood this time. You will need to stay under observation for a while." The baseline doctor said, his tone clearly indicated this was a recurring situation.
"I'm grateful for your help, human, I will help you with your work after we're both rested." Aethon didn't really understand why he felt compelled to make the baseline safer but the pull was very strong. They looked like an older version of Nova, he shook the memory of the young baseline away from his mind, it hurt to much to know he would probably never see them again.
He hadn't felt his eyes close again and himself drift to sleep. When he woke up again, they were gone... He didn't see them for a few days, he had been given a small and confortable cell while he adapted to his new life.
He was going towards the training room when he came chest-to-face with the baseline from a few days prior. If he remembered right, their name was Odysseus.
"You promised to help me, right ?" They were out of breath, their body barely standing upright. His eyes looked over to their cane. This was interesting, baselines didn't usually didn't need canes this early in life. He would have to ask a few questions to the apothecaries. His eyes went back to the youth.
"I did. What help do you need, human?" He was curious, what could possibly make the clearly painted human run.
He didn't have time to try and figure it out when 2 older baseline came menacingly in their direction.
"Look, the useless monster found a new person to annoy." The first one spoke.
"Always the taller ones..." Aethon shook his head before disappearing.
Odysseus started panicking, the space Marine had been there, where had he gone ?
"Looks like you're all alone now. We'll make it fast if you beg... After all we can't have you blable about what you saw in the break room, can we?" The second one smirked sadistically as he approached.
Odysseus shook violently. Until they stopped and their eyes widened.

Funding update: We're still short
Tumblr media
Co-director Jacob here, with an update on our current fundraising efforts. We sure appreciate your understanding this interruption to the award-winning sex and relationships education programming we’d much rather be spending our time providing for you! Just over 200 wonderful folks have made a donation or become a recurring donor since we started, but we are still short of our goal! We’re still 171 new recurring donors and 5K short of 15K we need to pay our most basic bills through the end of 2024 to help us avoid cuts to our staffing and services in 2025. We'll need just around as many people as have already pitched in to close the economic gaps we're up against, and help from people who value what we do to close them. You know the drill! If you can pitch in financially, and especially as a recurring donor, we’d love and appreciate your help at any level. If you can’t, or you already have and want to help some more, making your own posts about us, why you value us, and directing your circles to our work and where to donate to support it can go such a long way. Thank you for keeping us trucking, especially to those of you who have donated now or in the past, and those of you loudly banging this drum for us out here! Here's the link to donate for yourself or to direct others to:

The Seven Station Chronicles
Belladonna is the heir to the Seventh Station, one of seven orbital space stations torn from their planet by a wormhole several generations ago and stranded in the dead of space. Six years ago, the ritual that would have allowed her to hoard magic like the other nobles mysteriously failed, leaving her as her parents’ greatest failure. All attempts to regain their favour have been for naught, and, while she still clings to her status as heir, her parents’ manipulations seem targeted at taking away every remaining ounce of control she has over her life and her station.
Cassie is a runaway clone from Sixth Station, escaping the cruel brutality and murderous magical farming of her genetic donor, Cassiopeia. After a tumultuous year on the Seventh Station, armed with nothing but her muscles, the titanium arm she built to replace her lost one, and her street smarts, the magic she gained in an accident during her escape is discovered. To her surprise, instead of being killed outright, she is brought to guard the heir to Seventh Station - with the understanding that the heir will kill her the moment she gets the opportunity.
Both Belladonna and Cassie have secrets to hide and haunting terrors, both past and present, that plague them. Both are desperate to take back the power over their lives that has been ripped away from them. And both are inclined to hate and fear the other. But their lives have been irreversibly tied together by the actions of the leaders of Seventh Station, and not only their lives, but the lives of every person on every station, might be dependent on them - if only they can figure out how to work together.
Welcome to the Seven Station Chronicles, an original space fantasy series I’m working on! This is primarily a political and interpersonal drama story set on a series of seven space stations lost to the void of space, full of fantastical politics and complicated relationships.
There are currently four books planned in the series, each with its own plot but recurring characters and long-term character arcs. Book 1 focuses on Belladonna and Cassie’s relationship, Belladonna’s attempts to get back power over her life and gain power over her station, and the oppression and struggles of clones. Book 2 is focused on First Station and the resource shortages of living in space for so long, along with the struggles and hardships of the First Station leader, Septimus. Book 3 tells the story of an evacuating ship of space elves encountering the station and struggling to integrate and adapt to the new situations, and the stations’ struggle to integrate with them. Book 4 focuses on the religious cult of the Fifth Station and its impacts on the surrounding stations and political impacts. Belladonna remains the protagonist for the entire series, although the group of major characters widens significantly.
The Seven Station Chronicles have themes of abuse and recovery, coming into one’s own, love and found family, oppression and freedom, and the importance of compassion and fighting for what’s right. Please note that the series features depictions of mental illnesses (including eating disorders and addiction), abuse of multiple kinds (including emotional, physical, and sexual), self-harm, cults and cult trauma, homophobia and transphobia, ableism (especially against neurodivergent people), and sexism (women discriminating against men in elvish culture). Please feel free to ask me if you would like more detail on any content warnings - all snippets or detailed descriptions will be tagged with appropriate content warnings and anything depicting explicit content will be tagged as 18+ content.
Feel free to ask me any questions about anything related to this series - I love talking about it, and my asks and DMs are open.

Radio Free Monday
Good morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Ways to Give:
Anon linked to a fundraiser for Davy, a fellow employee at Old Tucson amusement park, who was recently struck by a car while on his bike; he was already low-resourced, and was living in a homeless shelter with his wife and son at the time of the accident. One of the other staff at the park has started a gofundme to help support the family during his long recovery and hopefully get them a stable place to stay; you can read more and support the fundraiser here.
chibifukurou linked to a fundraiser for a fandom friend, Chroma, to get her back home so she can get help with health issues and housing. She's been stranded out of state with severe Long Covid, without access to a support network or adequate care; they're trying to get funds together to get her transportation and a month at an extended-stay hotel while she gets her feet under her. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.
Help For Free:
songspinner9 is running a Donor's Choose fundraiser for Teacher Appreciation Week, to get funds to stock her library with books that represent her students' communities and for art supplies to help her middle-school students express themselves in creative language arts and history projects. You can read more and vote for the fundraiser here!
News to Know:
soc_puppet linked to summerofthe69, an annual smut fest that is returning for 2024! You can vote here on what this year's themes should be; you need to have a Dreamwidth account to vote, but anyone is welcome to promote their favorites in the comments to the post.
Recurring Needs:
loversdoom is a college student from the Philippines, studying away from her family, and her parents are unexpectedly unable to support her education; she is dealing with a number of expenses and is now looking at costly medical procedures as well. You can read more and reblog here or give to the fundraiser here.
onedollopofsourcream is raising funds to help with food, transportation, medication for their family, and other expenses after a string of financial issues; you can read more, reblog, and find giving information here.
rilee16 is raising funds to get out of an abusive home situation where their roommate has been aggressive and stealing from them; with irregular work hours and a tax debt due on top of chronic illness issues, they also need funds to repair their phone, which is dying, and cover utility bills. You can read more, reblog, and find giving information here.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can post items for my attention at the Radio Free Monday submissions form. If you're new to fundraising, you may want to check out my guide to fundraising here.

How much does one book acquisition cost on average? I'm curious for recurring donations to think of it in terms of how many theoretical books could be bought over time (even if the exact money might go to another organization need at the time, of course)
good question! Hmm on average ebooks are about $30 and audiobooks are about $40. but sometimes we can get books for $5 and other times titles can clear the $100 mark.
What I would say is that any re-occurring donation (even just $5) is extremely helpful over the long run because it helps us have a steadier, more predictable, funding stream that we can purchase new books from. one time donations of $50 or $100 are super exciting, but re-occurring donations truly are our bread & butter.
(if anyone is interested in becoming a one-time or re-occurring donor, you can donate here to support the Queer Liberation Library!)

Kayla Gogarty at MMFA:
Amid Kamala Harris’ surging fundraising, right-wing media are alleging that Democratic PAC ActBlue is laundering money through a Virginia donor, claiming there were more than 22,000 donations listed for that individual, totaling over $800,000. But according to data from the Federal Election Commission, the alleged donor actually gave hundreds of thousands to WinRed and other Republican PACs. Regardless, the claim spread — including to former President Donald Trump — and right-wing media figures called on attorneys general to investigate. At least two Republican attorneys general have announced they are looking into it. After President Joe Biden announced that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris, fundraising for her campaign surged. Amid that surge, right-wing personalities accused ActBlue of engaging in a money laundering scheme.
As part of these accusations, some right-wing media figures and social media accounts amplified data from a website for a tax-exempt organization, Election Watch, reportedly founded by serial election denier Peter Bernegger, which provides “smurfing data by state.” (“Smurf” apparently refers to “an individual whose ID may have been used to launder money into political campaigns.”) Users can click on a state to see the so-called “smurf” donors, which are apparently identified by “numbers and patterns of transactions” in FEC data “that indeed appear to be highly questionable.”
Right-wing media have seemingly latched onto the first Virginia entry, which the website claims made 22,619 transactions, totaling $839,466. According to FEC data for an individual of the same name living in the same zip code (or at the affiliated address), that individual has made nearly 25,000 transactions since 2019, totaling more than $765,000. Nearly half of the transactions were with WinRed — totaling nearly $380,000. Additional hundreds of thousands went to other Republican PACs. Only four transactions were apparently made with ActBlue — totaling just $66. (Previously, Republican donors have reportedly been “steered … into unwitting donations,” unknowingly signing up for weekly recurring contributions when contributing through WinRed.)
[...]
07/29/24: Just over an hour after Trump made his post, Virginia’s Jason Miyares said his office was “looking into” the claims about ActBlue and money laundering. On social media, Miyares responded to Kirk and said, “My office is aware of these allegations and rest assured, we are looking into it.” The same day, Dan Bishops — the Republican candidate for North Carolina AG — suggested he would take action against ActBlue on “January 1” after being elected. [Twitter/X, 7/29/24, 7/29/24]
07/30/24: Wyoming Republican Secretary of State Chuck Gray announced an “investigation into ActBlue,” citing “nationwide money laundering and identity theft allegations.” In a press release, which he posted on social media, Gray encouraged “any Wyoming citizen who has reason to believe a political action committee stole their identity or falsely reported a donation using their name” to report it to his office. [Wyoming Secretary of State media release, 7/30/24]
08/01/24: Right-wing activist James O’Keefe said he would “personally pay” $3,000 to people who confront potential “smurfs” in their neighborhoods. O’Keefe, the ousted founder of Project Veritas who is now trying to build up O’Keefe Media Group, posted on social media: “Uncover ActBlue Smurfs and get paid like our Citizen Journalists,” urging people to go to Election Watch’s site, “ choose your state, enter your zip code, and start investigating. Not comfortable going door-to-door? … Submit potential Smurfs and links to your FEC findings through our X DMs or Signal.” The post included a video showing how to use Bernegger’s Election Watch site and instructing people to “knock on these people’s doors,” tell them they “seem to be a victim of a money laundering scheme,” and get bank statements from them. [Rolling Stone, 6/20/24; Twitter/X, 8/1/24]
At least two states’ Republicans are conducting politically-motivated investigations against Democratic fundraising agent ActBlue, baselessly accusing them of “laundering money.”
