Honestly the author's summary is just perfect, but heres some notes. The recipe thing is so cute, the kanej here is so adorable, Inej with the doodles is again so cute. The last thing I will say is they're both down so bad, especially Kaz.

I was about to write about the amazing Nina and Inej friendship in this fic but I'm going to finish off by saying that all the friendships in this fic are just beautiful.

College AU where Aleksander Morozova is Ravka University’s most renowned history professor. He’s also the head of the GRISHA (Grand Ravkan Intellectual Scholarship Honors Admission), who select a small percentage of the students from each class to participate in a rigorous academic career with the goal of earning good grades & rec letters from big businesses. In the past, David Kostyk, Genya Safin, Ivan Kovalev, Nina Zenik & Zoya Nazyalensky all were part of the program, mentored directly by Prof. Morozova himself. He suddenly finds himself drawn to the sophomore (yeah, she’s 18+) Alina Starkov, who wows the student body with her humility, talent for the fine arts & genuine interest in learning. Meanwhile, the international showcase is coming up & Fjerda’s won for the last 7 years. It looks like the GRISHA might lose their funding, especially since there’s whispers that Prof. Morozova has constantly pulled strings to rig the entire school system in favor of his favorites.

Yeah, so Jayn’s a former GRISHA who works as an adjunct (or maybe in admin, IDK), wondering why tf her sort-of-friend Aleks is hardly trying to cover up his affair or his past actions. Nikolai is the scandalous school president’s son who has a knack for conceptualizing & presenting in general.

Yooooooo I just finished The Heroine’s Journey by Gail Carriger and it was so good!!! I don’t read a ton of non-fiction, especially not about writing, but  I picked this book up because I love Gail Carriger’s writing (I’ve read most of her Parasolverse and I’m planning on reading her other series eventually) and it was definitely worth it! Would highly recommend to “writers, readers, and fans of pop culture” as it says on the cover.

When Aleksander is done talking, Nikolai allows himself to relax a little into the lumpy pillows someone has placed behind his back; there are no princes or dukes or counts on the battlefield, only soldiers, and he gets to be treated accordingly. No fatter rations, no better cots. Not to mention that a very few noblemen and aristocrats have chosen to serve in the infantry, and this could be one of the many reasons why equity and equality are so valued within its ranks. It’s fine. Nikolai likes it better to be a nobody rather than a prince and a granduke, it saves him a lot of time in listing his titles and spares him the resentful glares of peasant or lower class soldiers, notoriously disaffected with the Monarchy.

I am so grateful to Leigh Bardugo for writing Nikolai and Zoya’s story and sharing it with the world. I never knew how much I needed Zoyalai in my life until now. I will definitely be rereading both books in the future! I can only hope Netflix’s Shadow and Bone finds a way to adapt the duology for television!
