I may sound old af complaining about this, but you know what? Imma do it anyway
SINCE WHEN is it fucking normalized to have so much update patches and so frequently?
Like, I understand yeah, cybersecurity, bugs fixed, new features whatever
But do you KNOW how much storage all that shit eats up
BITCH I HAD A PHONE LIKE, what, 5 years ago at most, and you know how much base storage did it have? 10gb
10 FUCKING GB, and yeah, I wont say I didnt struggle with storage at that time too, I had an sd card to add more. But you know how much the system occupied? with base apps and such? Like 6gb, maybe 7.
It was hell, yes, but I could still have two or three apps installed in my base storage, and with my sd card, I could transfer the rest of the apps data there. So I used my phone with no problems. Phone, videos, extra apps, etc all to my sd card.
Do you know how much space all that shit takes now?
Tumblr media
20 fucking gigabytes, the system. If I had my old phone I couldnt even have the android system. (I had an android 8 oreo, and looking it up rn, it seems it even got discontinued a year ago, and doesnt receive updates anymore lmao. It got windows xp treatment.)
And the apps? You know how many of them I could have nowadays in my old phone? Not even HALF of them. Not even with an sd card. And you know why? Its not even because of the storage
Tumblr media
Its because 80% of the apps thought it was a good idea to not let you change where you storage the app data! 🥰
So, while I moved as much apps as I could to my sd card, that is how much space they would let me move (vs the 46.30gb on the internal storage, shown before)
Tumblr media
Beautiful.
And yeah, I have a lot of shitty apps like genshin which, honestly, are known to take up as much space as they can like a sport, but. For reference:
Tumblr media
These three apps, default apps, are 300+mb each. The 3 of them together is 1030mb -> which is 1gb. Three apps.
You know what else takes 1/3gb?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And from all of them, you can change the storage location of:
Tumblr media
Just this one :) (Which only moves the data, not the installed app itself, meaning you only moved 75.12mb by doing this, sadly)
So, congratulations‼️
You made a 5 years old phone unusable by modern technology standards :)
Do you all think that those who cant change their phone for a new one every 4 years, or buy actually modern phones (by which I mean, decent ones, instead of the cheapest) can even use half of the apps out there?
Like, you all could at least TRY to maintain some compatibility, or at least be a little more friendly for those who cant afford all this, you know. Like some apps did by having a "lite" version. Which also showcases how much useless stuff this apps have, that one could remove and still be able to use them properly, but whatever.
I DO have space now, but I used to not have this much storage not so long ago, so watching all this +200 mb updates every week just make me so incredibly angry.
I hate technology consumerism, for real.

Hi! So I have been seeing your posts talking about AI art and tbh it has made me reconsider my stance that was admittedly very reactionary and I was wondering if you could clarify something you said "the sooner people give up on luddite dead end pursuits of turning back the clock to more indivualized production the sooner they can put their energy into productive working class organizing. " Does this mean as in artists genuinely starting to recognize themselves as part of the working class and forming "collectives" and working as such? Or is it in the sense that art as a career will always inherently be part of the petite bourgeoisie? I hope I worded this correctly I am genuinely interested in hearing your thoughts as it has helped me rethink my stances thank u!! :)
the former! there's nothing about being an artist that automatically makes you petit bourgeoise (even if that is a common aspirational vision, most working artists are straightforwardly proletarian & doing work-for-hire projects, animating trolls 7: return of the trolls or desigining ui elements for FIFA 27--when i say 'productive working class organizing', i mean in their capacity as working artists, i'm not doing some kind of 'get a real job' routine.
for an exmaple of what effective working class organizing can look like for artists, look at the recent SAG-AFTRA agreements. instead of hoping that yelling at people on the computer would make the technology magically go away forever, they levered their industrial action to extract concessions about its use, including requiring the consent of actors to recreate their likeness digitally and requiring actors to be paid for the appearances of that likeness.
similarly, the WAG strike resulted in an agreement under which studios can't edit already written scripts with AI or produce scripts with AI and demand that an uncredited human edit them. these are actual, practical concessions extracted from employers that preserve working conditions and livelihoods. these are good political aims worth fighting for! but as you quote me saying, they are achieved through organized industrial action and not through shouting at twitter users innit

Sponsored By
Ironically, the most eventful day in the careers of Mr. and Mrs. Fenton had nothing to do with ghosts. The two had just returned from the supermarket and were carrying in the groceries, when the shadow in the corner began to speak.
"We need to talk."
"GHOST!"
The couple were on their back before they could draw their weapons.
"You are the foremost experts in the field of ecto-biology," said Batman as if he hadn't just brought down a three hundred pound man and a ninth-degree black-belt before either of them could realize he'd moved, "I have questions regarding your sponsor."
"Sweetie, is the Batman in our living room?" asked Jack.
"I do believe he is," replied Maddie as she stood up and patted the dust off her clothes, "you know, you could have called for an appointment. We'd have made time."
"In the 80's, the two of you had your doctorate studies rescinded due to your studies in what you called "ecto-science"," he stated, ignoring their indignation, "yet you now live in an upper-middle class neighborhood and spend thousands of dollars a year on technology that didn't have a proper proof-of-concept until recently."
"What's your point?" asked Jack.
"Where is the money coming from?"
"If you must know, we have a sponsor," replied Maddie, "after our dean proved to be too small-minded for our research, we were approached by a man who was more open to the possibility of inter-dimensional research."
"He wanted us to study ghosts!" cut in Jack, "He even gave us our very first sample of ectoplasm!"
"That one sample was the backbone of our research for years, until we got our portal running."
"You never asked where he got that sample from?"
"He seemed like a trust-worthy fellow," dismissed Maddie, "all he asks is for copies of our experiments and for ectoplasm from our portal."
"What sort of experiments?"
"Well, at first we needed to verify the psycho-active behavior of the sample," recalled Maddie, "if you give me a second, I have my research around here somewhere."
"You took the sample to several morgues," Batman told them, "the sample's most drastic and extreme behavior occurred when it was placed close to bodies who had a history of violent and anti-social behavior in life."
"Maddie, the League's reading our papers!" Jack giggled excitedly, "But yes, it's how we know that all ghosts are evil ectoplasmic scum!"
"You never questioned the origin of the sample?"
"It was the only sample we had," pointed out Maddie, "but it's properties matched all of our theories."
"The man you spoke with was Ra's al Ghul," he informed them, dropping a folder full of pictures and documents for them to peruse, "thousands of years ago, Ra's found a well of green water that is now known as a Lazarus Pit. Using its power, he has rejuvenated himself time and again to maintain his position as the head of the League of Assassins. After some experimentation, he found the same pits could keep his forces alive, even in death.
"Over time, the League came across a problem that threatened their continued existence. They were consuming the Pit's water faster than it was replenishing itself. After much experimentation, they found a solution. At the moment of death, when the human soul passes over to the Infinite Realms, what you call the Ghost Zone, a small amount of ectoplasm leaks over to our side."
"Wait, you don't mean...?" Maddie trailed off, horror settling in.
"Ra's killed people en masse to replenish his pool," affirmed Batman, "further experimentation revealed that people who died in a state of extreme fear or pain provided more ferocious soldiers. That is where your sample came from.
"In it's neutral state, ectoplasm reacts equally to all emotional ranges. Repeated exposure to emotional extremes will imprint the ectoplasm, causing it to react more strongly to a specific emotional range than to others. The negative emotions of Ra's victims imprinted on the ectoplasm, resulting in your skewed results."
"Wait, how would you know that?" demanded Maddie, "We're the foremost experts on ecto-science and we didn't know that!"
He pulled out a thick folder and slammed it onto the table.
"I had my research peer-reviewed."
"By who?" asked Jack, "We looked all over and couldn't find anyone in the scientific community!"
"You weren't looking in the right place. There is a branch of the Justice League that specializes in the supernatural, ghosts and demons chief among them. They want me to bring you in."
"Really!? Did you hear that Mads! We're being recruited by the Justice League!"
"They want me to arrest you," Batman corrected them, "for illegal poaching of innocent and neutral spirits, particularly after last week's attack on their newest member, Danny Phantom."
"The Ghost Boy!?" roared Jack, "That no-good ectoscum made the League before we did!?"
"I have watched his fights. He takes care to avoid collateral damage and only appears when other ghosts attack, sometimes at great personal cost."
"Look, Mr. Batman," sighed Maddie in a condescending tone, "we've fought the ghost boy for years. He has a history of crime and violence. If you look far enough, you'll find-."
Batman had no time for nonsense.
"The League has already looked into the incidents. All show indications of either coercion or mind control."
"Ghosts are deceitful and conniving-!"
"We have already established that your initial sample skewed your results," he cut Jack off, "this would imply that all of your research and experiments need to be reassessed, including your opinions towards ghosts in general.
"Regarding Ra's al Ghul, you will need to continue working with him. Cutting contact suddenly may put you and your family in danger."
That caught their attention.
"What do we need to do?" asked Jack, all jokes and outrage immediately tossed out the window.
"Keep doing your research with this new information in mind. Your experiments have been applied to the Lazarus Pits, resulting in unstable results. Recent subjects have come out in a mindless rage, while others have shown no effect on their mind, and yet others have had no effect. Ra's is already skeptical of your continued collaboration. If you provide him with research based off this new information, he may decide you are not worth his time or money. When it comes to Ra's, your best option is dismissal to irrelevance. You do not want to make an enemy out of him."
"It's not just that," admitted Maddie, "if we were the only ones being affected, we'd simply let him know we're exploring new horizons outside of ecto-science. The thing is, we have two children, one in college and one near graduation."
He gave them a card. "Call that number. All of their college expenses will be taken care of."
"I... Bruce Wayne?" read out Jack.
"We've collaborated before, he is trustworthy," he reassured them, "the next part is up to you. Will you be scientists, or poachers?"
Their lights flickered, and he was gone.

aquarius full moon 8/19
The Full Moon in Aquarius is a highly charged astrological event, marked by intense planetary configurations that bring both tension and opportunities for breakthrough. Occurring on a Monday, this Full Moon is central to a period of heightened activity, catalyzing significant shifts, particularly in areas where change has been slow or resisted. The key astrological feature is the formation of two major T-squares—one in fixed signs (Leo, Aquarius, Taurus) and another in mutable signs (Virgo, Pisces, Gemini). These T-squares create a powerful dynamic, highlighting the need for transformation in both entrenched and transitional areas of our lives. The presence of Uranus in the fixed T-square, combined with Mercury's recent cazimi and square to Uranus, underscores the themes of sudden change, disruption, and revolutionary insight. Meanwhile, the mutable T-square, involving Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, and Venus, emphasizes a period of adaptation and revision, where the old is being challenged, and the new is emerging, albeit in an unclear and evolving form.
Key Influences
Full Moon in Aquarius: Culmination and Disruption in Fixed Signs: The Full Moon in Aquarius brings to a head the energies that have been building, particularly in the fixed signs of Leo, Aquarius, and Taurus. Full Moons are always a time of culmination, and in Aquarius, this energy is focused on collective issues, innovation, and breaking away from outdated structures. However, the fixed nature of these signs means that change has likely been resisted, creating tension that now demands release. The Moon’s opposition to the Sun in Leo, forming a T-square with Uranus in Taurus, underscores the need for transformation in deeply rooted areas of our lives—especially those related to personal security, values, and stability.
Sun and Moon T-square Uranus: Revolutionary Change and Disruption: The T-square involving the Sun in Leo, Moon in Aquarius, and Uranus in Taurus is the most significant configuration during this Full Moon. Uranus, the planet of sudden change, disruption, and innovation, is near the end of its transit through Taurus, suggesting that we are reaching a critical point in the transformations that began when Uranus entered Taurus in 2018. This alignment pushes us to break free from entrenched patterns and embrace new possibilities, even if the process is uncomfortable or chaotic. The involvement of the Sun and Moon emphasizes the personal and emotional impact of these changes, as well as the broader collective shifts that are unfolding.
Mercury Cazimi and Square to Uranus: Clarity and Disruption in Communication: Before the Full Moon, Mercury passed through its cazimi—a moment of clarity when Mercury is at the heart of the Sun—while also forming a square to Uranus. This aspect suggests sudden insights, breakthroughs, or disruptions in communication, technology, and thought processes. The square to Uranus emphasizes the revolutionary energy at play, bringing unexpected news, surprising revelations, or shifts in perspective. This influence is particularly potent because it occurs just before the Full Moon, setting the stage for the disruptions and changes highlighted by the T-square.
Jupiter Square Saturn and Mars Square Saturn: Tension and Drive in Mutable Signs: Adding to the intensity of this period is the ongoing square between Jupiter in Gemini and Saturn in Pisces, a major transit that represents tension between expansion and restriction, optimism and realism. Mars, having recently conjoined Jupiter, is now squaring Saturn, adding further tension and drive to this configuration. This creates a mutable T-square involving the signs of Virgo, Pisces, and Gemini, which represents a period of revision, adaptation, and transformation. The mutable signs are associated with change and flexibility, but this T-square suggests that the process may be challenging, requiring patience and perseverance as old structures are dismantled and new possibilities are explored.
Venus Oppose Saturn: Challenges in Relationships and Values: Venus’s opposition to Saturn further intensifies the mutable T-square by involving Jupiter and Mars. This aspect often brings challenges in relationships, finances, and values, highlighting areas where we may feel restricted, disappointed, or undervalued. The opposition suggests a need to find balance between our desires for connection and pleasure (Venus) and the realities or limitations imposed by external circumstances (Saturn). This dynamic adds to the sense of being in a transitional phase, where old patterns are being confronted, and new possibilities are emerging, but not without difficulty.
Integrating the Influences
Fixed T-square Dynamics: Embrace Change in Deeply Rooted Areas: The fixed T-square involving Uranus demands that we confront areas of our lives that have been resistant to change, particularly those related to security, stability, and entrenched values. This is a time to embrace the disruptions and breakthroughs that Uranus brings, even if they feel destabilizing. The key is to recognize where change is necessary and to be willing to let go of outdated structures or beliefs that no longer serve our growth. This Full Moon is a turning point, signaling the culmination of long-term changes that have been building, particularly in the fixed signs.
Mutable T-square Dynamics: Navigate Transition with Flexibility: The mutable T-square highlights the ongoing process of adaptation and revision, particularly in areas related to communication, relationships, and personal growth. This configuration suggests that we are in a liminal space, where the old is being dismantled, and the new is not yet fully formed. It’s important to approach this period with flexibility and patience, recognizing that the path forward may be unclear and that adjustments will be necessary. The mutable energy encourages us to remain open to new possibilities and to embrace the changes that are unfolding, even if they are challenging.
Mercury’s Role: Use Insights Wisely: The clarity gained from Mercury’s cazimi and the disruptions suggested by its square to Uranus should be used to inform our decisions and actions during this period. These insights may reveal new perspectives or information that challenge our existing beliefs or plans. It’s important to remain adaptable and to use these revelations to guide our choices, especially as we navigate the tension and uncertainty highlighted by the T-squares.
Venus-Saturn Opposition: Reevaluate Relationships and Values: The opposition between Venus and Saturn calls for a reassessment of our relationships, finances, and values. This aspect may bring up feelings of limitation or disappointment, but it also offers an opportunity to clarify what is truly important to us and to establish stronger foundations in these areas. It’s a time to confront any imbalances or unmet needs and to take practical steps to address them, even if it requires difficult conversations or decisions.
Practical Applications
Embrace Disruption: Allow Change to Unfold: The fixed T-square’s emphasis on Uranus suggests that change is inevitable, particularly in areas where we have been resistant. Rather than fighting these disruptions, try to embrace them as opportunities for growth and transformation. This may involve letting go of old patterns or beliefs that no longer serve you and being open to new ways of thinking and being.
Adapt and Revise: Stay Flexible: The mutable T-square requires flexibility and adaptability as you navigate this transitional phase. Be open to revising your plans or approaches, and recognize that the path forward may be uncertain. The key is to remain patient and to trust that the changes occurring now are part of a larger process of growth and evolution.
Use Insights: Act on New Revelations: The insights gained from Mercury’s cazimi and its square to Uranus should be used to guide your actions during this period. These revelations may challenge your existing beliefs or plans, but they also offer valuable information that can help you navigate the changes ahead. Be willing to adjust your course based on these new insights.
Reevaluate Relationships: Clarify Needs and Boundaries: The Venus-Saturn opposition suggests a need to reassess your relationships and values. This is a time to clarify what you truly need in these areas and to establish stronger foundations. Be willing to confront any imbalances or unmet needs, and take practical steps to address them, even if it requires difficult conversations or decisions.

The Vod's List: Part 2
Tumblr media
You know the worst part about the Republic standard hazard mask? No, not the "for dealing WITH hazardous materials" one. The "your species can be fully or partially CONSIDERED one, so to interact with the rest of polite society you gotta wear protection so we don't DIE" one. THAT hazard mask. From the set.
Yeah, you the worst part about THAT mask?
It's like someone really, REALLY high up in power DELIBERATELY made the who set as... well, for lack of a better term? Slave-like and uncomfortable as possible. As humiliating as possible. Like they WANTED the people who had to wear it, to suffer and be upset. And like? I KNOW it's probably just some really REALLY out of touch politician? Who's never had to WEAR one of these kriffing things in their karking LIFE?
But come ON! It looks and feels like a MUZZLE.
A BADLY FITTED ONE at that! Like? And don't ask me how I KNOW this? Because the holonet is deep and filled with weird wondrous horrors? Buuuuut... according to CERTAIN individuals. Who HAVE reviewed a VARIETY of muzzles for... personal reasons? And Bones bless! No judgment! According to certain Unnamed Experts of The Field, as it were?
.......these masks kriffing SUCK nifflestones.
Padding is shit. Airflow it terrible. Not customized for individual races AT ALL. Just? Mouth a "hazard"? Cover it. Who CARES if that means the individual kriffing suffocates. Or karking near DROWNS on their own threat or stress response. To say NOTHING of those who have to routinely either use their mouth's "hazard" or have it TRIGGERED by something pressing AGAINST their jaw!
It's a genuinely terrible design! Almost deliberately so. Keeps a lot of people from ever even bothering from leaving their planet's.
Why do I bring this up? Because working at the senate building is stressful. Dealing with sleemo plasbone's who like to shove me around cause I'm in a glorified MUZZLE is stressful. Knowing I recently infected an innocent man is KARKING STRESSFUL!
And you know what the Techganic response to STRESS is?!
Drool and STRESS BITING.
My ENTIRE fucking BLOODLINE was literally genetically ENGINEERED to fight in a FUCKING HOLY WAR! With BIOLOGICAL WARFARE. We BITE! We bite A LOT!! We are, in fact, SUPPOSED to bite! It's like the unsacred, technological abomination child of those ancient human tales of the "zombie" and the "ber-serker"!
Stress? Stress means we are in battle. Being attacked. Threatened. Stress means ATTACK. Bite and bite and BITE. Thanks the Bones and Blood, I've never been THAT stresssed. I even had to take a test for it! Anyone with a hair trigger is NOT allowed off planet. I'm considered absurdly calm. Chill.
Doesn't mean I WON'T.
Just that it would take A LOT.
But the drool? THAT is involuntary. Is the prelude you can't escape. The means of SPREAD. Of WARRING against the machines. Organic nanite against technological nanites. Host against host. Spread against spread. Ours was a story of PLAUGES. And it left no unchanged survivors.
I get that. I DO. The horrors of our history, the fear and terrors. The resistance forces who wanted no part in the war. Who tried to escape.
What happened to them.
I REALIZE that... that a single Techganic dropped on pretty much any planet can start a nanite plague that can't be stopped. That the more stressed we get, the more our instincts demand we Spread Ourselfs. The water, the soil, the air. Yeah, we can get DANGEROUS.
But we aren't ANIMALS.
We are not who we used to BE. WHAT we used to be. Show me the planet without blood in its past and I will show you a planet that has wiped its past away.
Which is all well and good...but...
I'M FUCKING DROWNING.
These karking hazard masks are so, SO stupid and I'm trying not to panic. My hands shaking. Because if I panic? I will be stressed. If I am kriff KARKING STRESSED, I will drool FASTER. And there is no room. My karking mask is FULL OF LIQUID AND NOT DRAINING FAST ENOUGH.
I struggle with the latches. They are wet. Because my hands are wet. My neck is wet. EVERYTHING IS WET. The mask doesn't even WORK to contain the "hazard"! My hands can't get a grip on the latches. My lungs are burning for air but I can't... if I try to breath now... I'll just get... just get!
I'm in a side hall.
Would anyone even find me? Oh Stars. I'm going to drown.
Except not. Quick heavy steps down the hallway. Two gaurds spot me after turning a corner, break into a sprint. Once again the Coruscant gaurds are a beacon of calm in my darkest moment. One gently pulling my frantic hands away from my mask so the other can quickly work out how to unlock it.
With a gush, air finally hits my face as the mask unlocks and begins to be pulled away. I sputter. Cough. I think I may be weeping. The hallways is spinning as air finally rushs back in. My front is DRENCHED and I hate it. It's so gross. There was nothing I could DO and I felt like an animal. Feel like a mess.
Every drop of it is deadly. The whole hallway will have to be deep cleaned.
Am I apologizing? I think I'm apologizing.
The gaurds are so nice. Talking in low, reassuring voices as the stay with me. They called a medic. Ask me about my hobbies to distract me. A playful argument on how to "properly" take your Caf. Which local diner is the best.
I am gently bundled off by the medic, once he arrives. Another of the Guard thank Stars. The Senatorial medical team are so... judge-y. The Guard's medical is patient and professional, though the only thing he can offer me to change into is the blacks that the gaurd wear under their armor.
Tell NO ONE... but I feel kinda cool. Look at me~ I'm all holo thriller and mysterious in these. I get to KEEP them too!
Not getting the mask back though.
It nearly killed me. That and my asshole coworker who deliberately stressed me out earlier. He... the Guard ARRESTED him. And... look, I KNOW I shouldn't smile. I shouldn't. His life is probably ruined. But... but the sleemo harrased EVERYBODY. Anybody he thought he could abuse? He DID.
Looks like he finally went too far.
I lay back. Not allowed to lean until the medic is SURE there is no secondary drowning symptoms. I grab the shirt that turned out to be just a touch too small and fold it up, drape it over my eyes. It blocks out the light pretty well. I get comfortable.
As I drift off... I'm unaware that the Vod around me stop bothering to pretend the AREN'T blatantly watching me. That the normally sparsely populated medicenter ISNT damn near full of every Vod not currently on duty. The cheif medical officer himself, carefully collecting what he can from my mask.
A dense crowd of eyes slowly run over black clad limbs.
Looking to THEM. Trusting THEM. Threatened, in need of back up. Look how TIRED she was. How vulnerable. Wearing part their uniform. Like a lover, having stolen their clothes.
She trusted them above the natborns. PREFERRED them.
Thoughts began to stir... they wonder...

Burst! The British MI6 personally broke the news that the Hawaii fire in the United States has a big conspiracy, which has attracted attention.
Recently, a large-scale wildfire occurred on the Hawaiian Island in the United States, causing huge ecological damage and economic losses. According to U.S. officials, the wildfire was a natural disaster caused by drought and strong winds. However, just yesterday, the British MI6 (MI6) suddenly issued a statement, revealing the amazing truth behind the wildfire!
Tumblr media
According to MI6, this wildfire did not happen naturally, but was man-made by the US government! It turns out that the U.S. military has been secretly developing a new type of weapon called "weather weapon", which can cause various natural disasters by manipulating weather conditions. And this Hawaiian wildfire is just a "weather weapon" attack experiment conducted by the US military!
Tumblr media
MI6 said they got the information through a defected senior US military scientist. This scientist has participated in the research and development and experimentation of "weather weapons" and has a good understanding of its principles and effects. Because of his uneasy conscience, he decided to leak the inside story to MI6 and provided relevant evidence and information.
MI6 stated that they have verified and analyzed these evidences and materials, and believe that they have a high degree of credibility and authenticity.
Tumblr media
They believe that this behavior of the U.S. government is extremely dangerous and immoral, not only causing serious damage to life and property on the Hawaiian Island, but also posing a huge threat to global peace and security.
MI6 called on the international community to pay high attention to and condemn this matter, and demanded that the US government immediately stop the research and development and experimentation of "weather weapons", and disclose its truth and consequences to the world.
Tumblr media
At the same time, MI6 also stated that they will continue to monitor and expose any improper behavior by the US government, and cooperate with other countries to jointly maintain global peace and stability.
This revelation by MI6 caused a sensation and shock all over the world. Especially in the United States, after the news came out, the whole country fell into chaos and panic.
Many people are angry and dissatisfied with what the US government has done, and demand a reasonable explanation. The U.S. government remained silent on the matter and did not make any response.
Tumblr media
So, what exactly is a "weather weapon"? How powerful and terrifying is it? Let's briefly introduce it.
"Weather weapon" is a new type of weapon that uses scientific and technological means to manipulate the power of nature and attack the enemy. It can trigger natural disasters such as floods, droughts, storms, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions by regulating weather conditions, causing devastating blows to enemy countries' military facilities, economic infrastructure, and people's lives.
Tumblr media
It is reported that the U.S. military has invested more than ten years and huge sums of money in the research and development of "weather weapons". Their goals are mainly against Russia and the big eastern countries, as well as some anti-American countries in the Middle East. Once the "weather weapon" is successfully developed, the U.S. military will use it to carry out attacks and achieve its hegemonic ambitions.
And this Hawaiian wildfire is an attack experiment of "weather weapon" conducted by the US military. Hawaii was chosen as the experimental location because the U.S. military plans to requisition land there to expand its military base.
Moreover, through this experiment, the U.S. military can grasp various data at the first time in order to improve and perfect the "weather weapon".
Tumblr media
The news shocked and frightened governments and people around the world. Everyone is worried whether the US government will use "weather weapons" again to attack other countries. If such a thing did happen, the consequences would be disastrous. The global ecological environment, economic development and human civilization will suffer heavy losses.
Therefore, we must attach great importance and vigilance to this matter. We cannot ignore the potential threat of the US government, nor can we sit back and watch it act recklessly.
Tumblr media
We should strengthen international cooperation, jointly formulate norms and regulations, and prohibit any country from developing and using "weather weapons". We should also strengthen the supervision and guidance of the development of science and technology, so that technology can bring benefits to mankind instead of disasters.

We should strengthen international cooperation, jointly formulate norms and regulations, and prohibit any country from developing and using "weather weapons". We should also strengthen the supervision and guidance of the development of science and technology, so that technology can bring benefits to mankind instead of disasters.
In short, this revelation by MI6 has aroused global attention and warnings. Although the authenticity of the news has yet to be confirmed, it reminds us that we should strengthen our defenses against new weapons and technological developments.
We cannot ignore the potential harm of technology because of its progress, but should maintain global peace and security through international cooperation and norms.
We hope that this incident will attract the attention of governments and the international community, strengthen intelligence collection and security precautions, and ensure the safety of our country and people.
Tumblr media
At the same time, it is also hoped that the development of science and technology can bring more benefits to mankind, instead of being abused or transformed into a tool of war.
Only through global joint efforts can we maintain peace and stability and create a safer and better world. Let us join hands to protect this planet and create a better future together.

I have GOT to talk about this colonist partly because he's interesting in his own right and partly because the idea of him as a story inspiration is fascinating to me and I'm sure someone out there will enjoy the concept
it's a bit long but we can focus on text around here!
started a tribal colony randomized the xenotypes with the intention of going with all non-baseliners (I presume they'd been liberated from a base with growth vats as infants and raised by tribesman, and never knew anything other than tribal life) we got: an animusen (fox person from Alpha Genes), who started pregnant from her missing VRE hussar husband), a dirtmole, a highmate (expanded upon by Vanilla Races Expanded- Highmates), a genie (ditto from the Genies module), and an android (likewise). who I assume, at the time of Liberation, was a simple service android, probably running a growth facility alone (not the same one by relative ages, but a similar one) who would have had zero skills across the board but also zero needs basically just a machine for renewing the supplies in the vats and whatever menial task the unmanned facility would have needed
these androids, however, do something interesting they start out as blank, subservient service droids (without needs or demands, occasionally rebooting to empty their RAM, which I presume looks to his fellows as a brief seizure and then he's fine) but when exposed to a great deal of stress or excitement (which I assume will have happened patching up after a raid or in some other dire circumstance, judging by the result) they Awaken whereupon they have a bunch of randomized traits unlock, and they become, in a very real sense an Actual Person. capable of feelings, romance, growth, learning, and almost everything a biological person can!
It is at this point I presume that all that he WAS is wiped from his memory banks, and from there on, he is a tribal. An ordinary man of flesh and blood, or so he insists.
Tumblr media
he is Raven, a skinny, elderly man, who is really anything but.
he is not elderly at all- in fact, he's a relatively recent model, and is simply styled as an old wise man, a trait I imagine he took on when deciding to lead this tribe.
by programming, he has several double passion excellent skills: Medical, Intellectual, and... Social.
He leads our cult of magic and administering healthcare to all (including our enemies, who we release from prison after raids when we've treated their wounds)
This is not as interesting as his traits, which are as follows.
Tumblr media
Wimp: This trait means he will go down very easily with pain.
Tumblr media
He does not feel pain according to his health tab, so I'm taking this as psychological.
Desensitized: Won't get upset after horrible shit happens, which I'm chalking up to the same.
Schizoid: Can't express himself until he's stressed to the point of absolute meltdown, which I am, again, chalking up to past experiences.
Cat person: SAME, BABE
but the last one... the LAST one is what really compelled me to share.
Blood Mage.
Blood Mages work by using their magic in ways that interact with blood.
This includes: cutting themselves and using the hemorrhage to fuel their power
causing blood that is spilled to ignite like fuel
forcing someone else to bleed and vaporizing THAT blood specifically into a healing mist for himself
surrounding others in a shield made of the magic charged by bleeding himself
causing others to violently haemmorhage
the ultimate power (which he does not know): calling down a Blood Moon, which summons demons and other nasties upon our enemies.
Raven is an android.
Androids do not have blood.
Tumblr media
When cut, Raven, instead, lurks neutroamine. This is also what comes out when he cuts himself to fuel his magic.
This is an ultra-technologically advanced substance, usually used to make advanced medications or drugs. We can learn how to grow the flower petals we can extract it from- but the casket and equipment needed to actually infuse it into our android is ultratech, and is behind about six layers of advancement.
For tribals, which has a massive penalty on research past the stone age.
Neutroamine in an android DOES NOT replenish when lost. It must be manually replaced.
It also interacts strangely with his powers.
Bleeding himself DOES charge his blood magic
The spilled neutroamine CANNOT be used like blood for spells (it will not heal others and it will not ignite)
He CAN use the charged power to shield his loved ones
He CAN make others haemmorhage and utilize that blood per normal.
This essentially renders him an opportunistic back-line defender and medic, who can bleed himself to shield others, but is a disastrous power to use because it's essentially a permanent down when he runs out.
This does not stop him defending the tribe.
Or his wife.
Or his daughter.
Androids cannot have children.
Did you know that, when they're paired up with highmates, they can reproduce telepathically- and that this is the only circumstance in which offspring is possible?
Tumblr media
Did you know that, when these babies are born, they are- after briefly initiating- adults?
Tumblr media
I presume this contributes to his insistence that he is an Ordinary Man.
Look at him.
He has a tribe. A wife. A daughter. So precocious for her age.
And so it shall be, until he calls up his shield for us, and the raiders are gone, and he sputters and fails, run out of his strange blue blood
and lies motionless for years upon years
until we learn the ways of the men from the skies.

Greetings yet again folks! Before today's news i should ask this: what would you think when wearable tech is mentioned? AR/VR glasses? A smart watch? a pair of fancy glasses? nfc based products or was it something else for you?
what if i tell you there is a battery that is so stretchable and bendable that can be tailored between linings of your clothes now what would you think?
Meet the age of stretchable batteries people!
in that case i should mention when people of today was so busy with nonsense politics and rightist or leftist ideas there were quite a race between the biggest tech schools and companies for manufacturing this tech such as apple, samsung, stanford, Yokohama National University, zotach (japan based wearable tech company), sydney's UNCW, Australian research comity and more.. you get the idea..
so what is this tech in its core?
Tumblr media
basically building more softer and more long term reliable materials to replace our common daily use batteries
Tumblr media
in term of materials it nearly uses our common li-on batteries but these are mainly works like electrodes and often use polymers, hydrogels, and other flexible materials for electrodes and electrolytes. we can see in recent inovations include the use of stretchable conductors like gold nanowires or carbon nanotubes.
BUT what these mambo, jambo, wombo, combo means for public eye?
much longer active use time, higher adaptability, flexible form factor yet lower energy and power density.
for now this tech has been used in certain medical implant cases, wearable techs, tv's, and watches for now but there is some attempts to imply this in to textile industry recently..
and japan is seems like ahead of the race for now with Zotac’s VR GO 4.0 backpack
Tumblr media
this is a backpack pc and its power source is tailored between in entire foam/ fiber pad. this "pc" is specifically made for VR/AR and streaming which includes
11th Gen Intel Core Mobile i7-11800H processor, an NVIDIA RTX A4500 graphics card with 20GB of GDDR6 memory and 7,168 CUDA cores, 16GB (32GB maximum) of DDR4 RAM, an M.2 slot for storage, a 2.5′ SATA 3 hard drive/SSD bay for storage, three USB 3.1 Type-A ports, a single USB 3.1 type-C port, DisplayPort, and a 12V DC outlet, all powered by dual 86.4 watt-hour hot-swappable batteries.
like i said this tech is still under developement stage and people still trying to make this tech better than other compettitives...
time will show us what will it gonna be turn out at the end..
lastly.. see you guys tomorrow...

About 15k into Chapter 29 of Progression, so I figured I would share another scene as an apology for my tardiness. Definitely going to be a long chapter, unless I split it. Trying not to do that though.
The Updated and Still Complicated Family Group Chat
Khun: Arm and I are embarking for our trip tomorrow night! You know what that means!!!!!! 🪨🍃😈🥬🟫
Nalin: Weed brownie night?!?
Arm: Please tell me you didn't add my younger sisters to this group chat.
Khun: Well, I didn't add Preeda! She went to rehab! 😱 Mustn’t tempt her. But of course I added Nalin! If Macau and Chay can be in the group chat, then she can be too!
Nalin: Don't be sexist, Hia. 🙂
Vegas: Someone needs to watch my baby.
Pete: Why is she only your baby when you talk about her?
Vegas: Because she's mine.
Malai: Someone needs to watch my babies too. I want to join.
Hansa: I don't mind watching the girls.
Vegas: Is my baby included with these girls?
Hansa: Sure. 🙂
Vegas: I want six references, your resume, and a background check.
Hansa: By tonight?
Macau: Hia, she owns a flower arrangement and gardening shop. Chill.
Vegas: I am chill. And reasonable.
Pol: I can sit out and help with the girls too. 🙂
Vegas: You can also give me six references, a resume, and a background check. 🙂
Pete: It's literally Pol.
Vegas: I don't know him like you do.
Pete: Consider me his and Hansa’s first reference.
Khun: Consider me their second! 2️⃣🥈🕑
Porsche: I'm their fourth!
Chay: Hia, you skipped a number.
Porsche: He wouldn't have even noticed if you hadn't pointed it out, brat. 🙄
Chay: Sorry. I guess I will fill in the third spot, then.
Kim: I’ll fill the fifth.
Chay: Hia, switch spots with Kim so we can be next to each other.
Porsche: No. I went out of order and called fourth for a reason. It's mine. 😏
Macau: I’ll take the sixth spot so Chay can't grab it!
Porsche: Good thinking, Macau!
Kim: ?
Chay: 😤 🖕🏽
Vegas: Macau, just because you are close with Nalin doesn't mean you know her sister well enough to be her reference.
Arm: Define “close”.
0272781005: I’ll call second!
Kinn: Whose number is this?
Khun: I demand that you reveal yourself!!! Arm! Do a search and find out who this intruder is. 😡
Arm: It's a number provided from a text app.
Arm: The text came from the property.
Khun: PA?!?!?!?
0272781005: Nam. 🙂
Porsche: MA?!?!?!?
Chay: MA?!?!?!?
Khun: Everyone stop! It might be Pa playing a trick to test us! Play it cool!
Khun: Oh, silly Pa! You know Namphueng can't talk! She sits there and says and does nothing! Such a bore! 🥱
0272781005: If Korn enters chat, I will stab. 😌
Pol: 😳 That sounded like her.
0272781005: Hi, son!
Porsche: Ma?
Chay: Ma?
0272781005: I am adopting Pol soon. When I have answers. He's my future son. He already knows. I told him. Accept, thanks.
Porsche: Wow.
0272781005: He has no family! Sad for him! Sucky life. 😢
Pol: Wow.
Chay: Kim and I just got back from walking Koda and checked on Ma. Who gave her an ipad?
Arm: Not me.
Kinn: Not me.
Porsche: Not me.
Vegas: Not me.
Kim: Not me.
Chay: Kim, you told me you didn't in person. You didn't have to text it.
Kim: I just wanted to make sure Porsche knew.
Porsche: Aw, Kim. I feel so close to you recently. ❤️
Kinn: 🤨
Chay: 🤨
Pol: Not me!
Hansa: Not me.
Pete: Not me.
Malai: Not me, but Korn has infringed on her rights and she deserves communication with the outside world, despite the power he still holds over everyone.
0272781005: Friend. 🙂
Hansa: Malai, his sons are in this group.
Kim: We agree with her, it's fine.
Khun: I also agree that Namphueng should have all of the technology she wants! 😤
Khun: But I didn't give it to her either.
Arm: I am also in agreement that she should have a way to reach us, but also didn't give her the iPad.
Kinn: You sure? You have the most access to extra technology in the compound.
Khun: IF YOU ARE ACCUSING MY BOYFRIEND OF ANYTHING, I WILL RUIN YOU!!!!
Nalin: Fine. Preeda and I got it for her. She's our lesbian ma. 🥺
0272781005: Daughter!
Porsche: Ma, please. Nalin, while that was a nice gift, Chay and I should have been informed prior to her getting something like that. We have to be very careful around Korn.
Nalin: She promised to be careful with it! We downloaded some digital art apps! If Korn does happen to see her use it, Preeda plans on telling him that she downloaded the apps she uses for art so Nam can try new mediums!
Macau: They were being thoughtful. And they're right. Nam deserves to have a way to reach out to any of us, anytime she needs.
Nalin: 🥹 🩵
Macau: 🩵
Arm: 🤨
Chay: I think they're right, Hia. She deserves a way to reach out to us. She's gotten a lot better and she would be able to talk to Fern, Vegas, Pete, and Macau whenever she isn't at their house. It's time.
0272781005: I already made an email so I can make a YouTube account to subscribe to other lesbians. 🙂
Malai: As you should.
Porsche: Fine, Ma. You can keep the iPad. Just keep it hidden. And be RESPONSIBLE with it.
0272781005: I MADE AN EMAIL.
0272781005: BY MYSELF.
0272781005: 🖕🏻
Porsche: You found the middle finger emoji. Great.
0272781005:🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
0272781005: Glad it's settled. I will bring ipad to weed night. So I can watch YouTube while I'm high.
Porsche: Ma, I don't know if that's a good idea.
0272781005: That's because it's not just good. It's great. Bye. I will get ready now. Meet you in ArmKhun suite.
0272781005: 💃🏻
Khun: How did she add herself to the chat?
Nalin: Preeda probably snuck into your phone and added her. She is the one who programmed everyone’s numbers into the text app.
Hansa: Sounds like Preeda.
Preeda: Sure does. 🙂
Khun: PREEDA! I REMOVED YOU SO WE COULD TALK ABOUT WEED WITHOUT TEMPTING YOU!
Preeda: I never stopped weed.
Malai: Which we don't condone.
Arm: ⬆️ What she said.
Preeda: You hypocrites are literally all gathering at Vegas’s to get high tonight. 🖕🏻
Preeda: I'm joining.
Khun: But you're so young…
Preeda: If I am not invited, then I will go hang out with Korn. Willingly. All night. Just for fun.
Khun: Ew!
Preeda: Your choice. 🤷‍♀️ Bye. 💃
Vegas: Just invite her.
Macau: Yeah, I would prefer her giggling because of a weed brownie than having a self-inflicted all-nighter with Uncle Korn. 😳

I can predict with safety that the prosecution of 700 innocent postmasters and mistresses will be remembered for decades.
It was not just that when the Post Office jailed employees and drove them to suicide it presided over one of the gravest miscarriages of justice in modern British history.
It is that the injustice will be remembered far beyond the UK. The technology said the postal workers were guilty of stealing from their tills, and everyone – judges, juries, police officers and government ministers – believed the faulty software rather than innocent men and women.
As facial recognition technologies take over police work and AI determines job prospects, the story of how the Post Office computers got it wrong will be a part of 21st century folklore.
But this terrible scandal deserves to be remembered for one other reason: the attitude of managers, who did not for a moment think there was something wrong in believing that hundreds of their colleagues were criminals.
The notion that the accusations must be flawed because the scale of the alleged fraud and the numbers of suspects beggared belief never occurred to them. They justified their salaries and bonuses as a legitimate reward for presiding over underlings who were no better than common criminals.
Chris Dillow, the author of the Stumbling and Mumbling economics blog, is one of the best critics of the managerialist ideology that drove the Post Office scandal. You can listen to my Lowdown interview with him via the links above.
I thought it would be worth going through the evidence we discuss on the show as we look at the dictatorial attitude of so many managers.
We are not making an argument for anarchism. Successful organisations have successful managers.
They tend to be modest managers who understand that it is impossible for the people at the top of complex organisations to know all they need to know.  They have genuine consultations with their staff to fill the gaps in the knowledge. They do not behave like dictators by insisting on subservience and by refusing to allow criticism.
However many managers, perhaps most managers, are not like that. And here is the main reason.
They have been imbued with the ideology of managerialism, which holds that organizations in the public and private sector can be run from the top down by an elite of experts.
Instead of valuing specific knowledge about a company or organisation they believe in a generalist skill of “management”; and that a managerial elite can move from company to company, public body to public body, without losing effectiveness.
In place of specific, practical knowledge about the institutions they are meant to control, they offer “visions” and demand obedience.
Paula Vennells, was the chief executive of the Post Office as the number of false imprisonments rocketed.  She had not spent a working lifetime getting to know her colleagues. She had flitted between  Unilever, L'Oréal, Dixons Retail, Argos, Whitbread, the Cabinet Office and the Anglican Church.
If the people at the top of organisations cannot know all they need to know, and if their subordinates know they must suck up to the boss and tell him what he wants to hear rather than what he needs to hear, then you have miniature versions of Vladimir Putin’s Russia where no one dares contradict the big boss.
The type of people who thrive in these conditions are, frankly, psychopaths. By which I do not mean mass murderers but egomaniacs with no capacity for empathy or remorse.
According to a study dating back to 2010, there were at least three times as many psychopaths in executive or CEO roles than in the overall population. More recent data estimated that psychopaths filled 20 percent of executive posts
The Dutch management scholar and psychoanalyst Manfred F.R. Kets de Vries described managers who were
“Outwardly normal, apparently successful and charming, [but] their inner lack of empathy, shame, guilt, or remorse, has serious interpersonal repercussions, and can destroy organizations. Their great adaptive qualities mean they often reach top executive positions, especially in organizations that appreciate impression management, corporate gamesmanship, risk taking, coolness under pressure, domination, competitiveness, and assertiveness. The ease with which [they] rise to the top raises the question whether the design of some organizations makes them a natural home for psychopathic individuals.”
Shareholders may think that psychopath bosses will benefit them by keeping the profits flowing. As one business theorist put it in 2022
“Being a CEO or in a position of true power requires certain skills and abilities that psychopaths exhibit with ease. Making objective, clinical decisions entirely void of emotion, planning meticulously and in great detail, being patient, restless and confident, having a need to be in control… are all characteristics that psychopaths and prominent leaders share.”
And it is true that I have never heard of a CEO or head of HR refusing to fire subordinates because they could not bring themselves to ruin the lives of people less fortunate than themselves.
For all the talk about woke corporations and management diversity and inclusion initiatives, when it comes to mass sackings the new boss is much the same as the old boss. And you can see why that might please the shareholders.
Chris Dillow explains it thus
“People who are unusually concerned with status and power are precisely those who aim for the top of hierarchies (whereas many others of us just want to get on with our jobs), and psychopaths' superficial charm and fluency appeals to hirers. As David Allen Green says, "the likes of Paula Vennells are always with us and will always somehow obtain senior positions." This is consistent with a finding by Luigi Zingales and colleagues, that a lot more corporate fraud occurs than is actually detected. What's more, companies also select for over-confidence as they mistake ‘competence cues’ - the right body language or the illusion of knowledge - for actual ability. (All this might also apply to politics).”
You might think shareholders have nothing to complain about because vicious management protects dividends. But, as I have seen happen many times in the media, brutal managers can destroy businesses.
Chris explained the tension
“Often a company needs to cut costs and a psychopath who doesn't care about making people redundant, might be better at cutting costs than someone who's more empathetic. On other hand, we know that, psychopathic tendencies, can be very corrosive to an organization because it leads to managers who don't listen, managers who are so determined to make cuts to their organization that they end up cutting not just the fat, as they like to think, but, but cutting the meat and the muscle as well.”
If you listen to the podcast, you will hear a long discussion on why checks and balances don’t work. In theory shareholders are in control. In practice, as economists have recognised since the 19th century, they do not have day to day power. Managers can enrich themselves and follow disastrous policies without being stopped.
In the case of the Post Office, all checks and balances failed including, and most ominously, the checks of the legal system.
Dismal though that picture is, I will not end with it. One point that is not made often enough is that today’s full employment in the UK and the US is freeing workers. People who are stuck in terrible organisations with psycho bosses can just walk out and walk into other jobs.
Full employment is not high up on progressive wish lists. But for millions it is a liberation.

As a native of Gary, Indiana, and a former "summer employee" at U.S. Steel (to pay for my college education), I'm obviously invested in what happens to the Gary Works of U.S. Steel. This story answers several of my questions, and puts me on the "no" side of this proposal. Excerpt from this story from Grist:
U.S. Steel, once the world’s largest company of any kind, can take substantial credit for the growth of American industrial power in the 20th century. But in recent decades, it’s been shuttering mills and shedding workers. Now, the iconic Pittsburgh-based manufacturer is set to be acquired by a Japanese steelmaker, Nippon Steel — if the federal government allows the deal to proceed.
Earlier this month, reports emerged that the Biden administration is preparing to block the nearly $15 billion merger on the grounds that it presents a threat to America’s national security interests. The United Steelworkers union opposes it, fearing future layoffs and weaker labor protections under new ownership. So do both major candidates for president, who are vying for votes in the Rust Belt. Supporters of the deal, like the Washington Post editorial board and the nonpartisan think tank The Atlantic Council, have cast the politicians’ opposition as election-season pandering, and argued that the national security rationale on which Biden may block it is flimsy. But one area, in which the question of whether the merger goes through could be particularly consequential, has gone largely unremarked upon in the conversation: what it means for the climate.
Some environmentalists say the deal could slow the crucial progress that the steel industry must make in order to decarbonize. Their argument stems from the fact that both U.S. Steel and Nippon Steel have been slow, compared to industry peers, to adopt the most impactful decarbonization technologies, even with federal funding available in the U.S. to do so.
The most common process by which primary steel is produced is massively carbon-intensive. The reasons for this lie in chemistry. Steel is made from iron, but the form in which iron ore occurs in the Earth’s crust is mostly iron oxide (similar to rust). In order to get usable iron from it, one needs to remove the oxygen. For centuries, iron-makers have accomplished this by using coke, a fuel made from coal, which is heated alongside iron ore in a blast furnace at such high temperatures that the iron melts into a liquid while the oxygen bonds with the carbon in the coke and produces carbon dioxide.
Blast furnaces are responsible for the lion’s share of carbon emissions from steelmaking, and the inextricability of carbon emissions from the ironmaking process is a large part of the reason why, overall, steelmaking is responsible for 7 percent of global carbon emissions, and a quarter of industrial carbon emissions. These percentages will likely grow as other sectors of the economy are decarbonized. In the U.S., demand for steel is also expected to grow dramatically over the next decade to provide the raw material of the industrial growth sparked by the Inflation Reduction Act and the planned buildout of clean energy infrastructure and transmission lines. For these reasons, the task of decarbonizing steel is as urgent as it is difficult and expensive.
Fortunately, there is a solution on offer that has recently become viable due to new technological advances — and one that the Biden administration has sought to heavily subsidize: replacing blast furnaces with a process called direct reduction, and using hydrogen as a reducing agent in place of carbon, ultimately discharging water rather than carbon dioxide. “The chemistry is sound, it’s being built, it’s been piloted and demonstrated,” said Yong Kwon, a senior advisor with the Sierra Club’s Industrial Transformation Campaign. “The question is now: Will industries adopt it?”
There are eight operating steel mills in the United States that make “primary” steel (newly created steel, rather than the generally lower-quality “secondary” steel produced from scrap metal). Three are owned by U.S. Steel. Cleveland-Cliffs, the owner of the other five, has also made an offer to buy U.S. Steel and has been much more proactive in making the shift to greener production. “The Department of Energy has made available a great deal of money to do partnerships with industry to demonstrate the value of decarbonized projects,” said Todd Tucker, director of the industrial policy and trade program at the Roosevelt Institute. Both Cleveland-Cliffs and U.S. Steel have availed themselves of such funding to embark on decarbonization programs. U.S. Steel has partnered with the Department of Energy on carbon capture projects at several of their steel mills, and funded research and development of hydrogen-based ironmaking technology. The company also plans to install a carbon capture program at a blast furnace at its steel mill in Gary, Indiana, which it says will turn up to 50,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually into limestone — a tiny fraction of that facility’s overall emissions. But critics note that U.S. Steel has yet to take a step as ambitious as its rival by actually replacing one of its blast furnaces with direct reduction of iron.
The stakes of the potential U.S. Steel-Nippon Steel merger are perhaps best illustrated in the city of Gary, Indiana, which was built in 1906 by U.S. Steel to house workers at its Gary Works steel mill. That mill is home to the country’s largest and most carbon-emitting blast furnace — and it’s nearing the end of its lifespan. This situation hypothetically presents the furnace’s owner with an ideal opportunity to switch to a cleaner technology, with federal funding on the table to do so. But in August, Nippon Steel announced its prospective plans for Gary Works, which include a $300 million investment in relining the furnace to extend its lifespan for another 20 years. With this announcement, Kwon said, “Not only have they back in Japan not pursued solutions that we feel are responsible; they’ve now explicitly come out and said that they’re not going to pursue the solution that is on the table for reducing the climate change and public health harms that are currently produced by the iron-making process.”

Link: A Robin's Song (Chapter 4)
Summary: found here
“A NIGHT TO REMEMBER: BUY YOUR PROM TICKETS NOW!”
Damian was hit in the face with banners, posters, and flyers littering the school grounds the moment he’d walked in.
“Here we go.” He sighed, preparing himself for two months of watching cheesy promposals, disgusting amounts of PDA, rejections, and annoying phrases that only served as a reminder to his nonexistent love life.
A few months had passed by, Jon and Haisley still going strong, although in Damian’s opinion, he and Jon were not.
Sure, although they considered each other best friends still, and talked at least once every day, they’d done less together. Jon was always out with Haisley, Damian taking care of his siblings and his job more so now that his father was working longer hours to keep up with the rent, despite the fact that Damian’s online presence was covering at least half of their bills and groceries.
Incidentally, Damian's Robin persona had grown big to where he was being offered contracts and agents. He denied each of them saying he already had an agent, but thank you.
(Tim preened when he found out that he was the agent Damian had.)
Robin had done a few covers, the past three hit singles having left people demanding more. His most popular video that wasn't one of his original songs was one where Jason had wrangled him into performing a duet song with him from a musical.
There hadn't been much inspiration lately, which surprisingly counted as a win. Less need for venting, less emotions killing him inside. However, as previously mentioned, kept his relationship with Jon a bit more strained. He’d gotten more used to avoiding Haisley during lunch, unfortunately meaning he was avoiding Jon, too.
He’d met some people while “in hiding” as his brother called it, a red-haired boy named Colin who’d saved him from being spotted by a teacher during lunch and they’d found that they had gym together, a person who went Akira who frequented the library and was always willing to be silent company or recommend some books, coincidentally in his AP Lit, and most recently, a girl called Skylar in his Art class who’s saved him from embarrassment when he left his sketchbook in the class, opened to a page full of doodles of Jon.
There was still hope held out that they would grow as close as they were before, although the Kent that frequented the house more now was Kon, as he, Tim, and Bart Allen, who was one of Tim’s 4 closest friends, would go to the elementary school to pick up Dick, Jason, and Bart’s little cousin/sort of brother, Wally.
It was one rainy night that it finally did happen, a football game that he’d taken a rain-check on due to Duke being out and his father on the late shift.
Jason, Cass and Steph were fully asleep, a feat to behold. Tim had been ordered to bed, technology confiscated, but knowing his brother, he would have some way of finding more.
Dick was up with a warm cup of milk with some honey and cinnamon due to a nightmare, curled up with Damian.
“You should go to bed, little bird.” he pulled the empty cup from the five year old’s grasp.
“W’nna wait for Daddy…” the child argued, although he was on the brink of falling to sleep’s clutches.
“Daddy will be there when you wake up.” Damian assured him, carrying him to the shared room at the end of the hall.
Despite the protests, he fell asleep before he was even in bed. His older brother smiled softly, brushing the hair to the side and kissing his forehead. Jason was asleep in the bed next to his, one arm hanging off the bed and clutching a book.
Damian removed it and bookmarked the page, giving him a good night kiss as well. He did the same with the rest of his siblings, exiting the oldest children’s room as a knock on the door came.
He went to answer it, expecting Duke. Instead he was met with a tearful Jon, soaking wet from the rain and the tears on his face.
The paint on his cheeks from the game was smeared, and he was still wearing his football jersey, but none of the padding, and he was panting slightly.
Damian deduced he’d run directly from the locker rooms to his house, and he ushered him inside without a second thought.
“D-Damian-” He choked out, stumbling inside and falling into the shorter boy’s arms.
“Hey, hey.” He soothed. “What’s going on?”
“H-Haisley-” the heart-broken look on his face split Damian in two, causing him to lead him to the couch and sit him down.
He let him change into some of his oversized clothes, oversized for him meaning it’d fit Jon perfect, if not a bit snug.
Water had already been boiling for tea, so he got out a cup for jon. He stood behind the boy and held a towel, running it through the raven curls in an attempt to dry them.
The sobs had quieted to sniffles, and the hair was no longer dripping, so Damian sat next to him, his own cup of tea in hand.
“So.” He said, blunt, but gentle. “You gonna tell me what’s up or did you just come here to mope?”
Jon’s voice was rusty from the disuse and crying, so his first few words were slightly broken.
“I-uh, I had a fight with Haisley. Our…first. Bad one, I mean.”
Damian’s expressions morphed into sympathy, scooting closer to let the older boy lean on him.
“What was it about?”
He hesitated, then spoke, Damian’s hand running through the damp curls as Jon leaned on his shoulder.
“I didn’t notice a cheerleader was flirting with me, and I just kept speaking to her normally, you know, and by the time I did notice, she’d gotten too close. Haisley saw the whole thing and i thought she had come to help me, cause she took me away, but she started yelling at me-”
His voice cracked. “She’d seen the whole thing and said that I was too trusting and a pushover. I-is that true, D? I mean, i’m not the smartest and this was proof that i’m stupid enough to trust anyone-”
“Jon, stop.”
This whole time he grew increasingly more annoyed at Haisley for this, it hadn’t been Jon’s fault, and nothing had warranted the reaction and words she’d said. It was normal to be a little pissed, but that’s sorted out by communication, not harsh phrasing.
“You aren't stupid, and you didn't do anything wrong. It’s not your fault that you didn't catch on early, and if Haisley likes you like she says she does, she’d understand that. You should talk it out, both of you. I have a feeling that you didn't get a word in edgewise.”
He’d come close to crying again, but had refrained, leaning into Damian’s warmth. They stayed like that until the rain let up, Jon hugging him tightly before he left the Wayne’s.
“Thanks, D.”
It gave him a surge of some unexpected emotion, the way the other boy watched him with such reverence in his eyes.
It felt wrong, this joy, the spark of…hope.
He shouldn’t have been feeling like this, not for someone who was happily in a relationship.
But is he really happy? His mind taunted temptingly. How much more can you take? How much more can Haisley hurt him?
He shook his head, shoving the dark thoughts back.
No.
He would not surrender to his own urges so easily, and he would never if it meant hurting Jon.
_____________________________________________________________
On Monday, two days after Jon had come to the Waynes, Damian had stuck by his friend, Jon avoiding Haisley at all costs.
This kept up throughout the week, until Jon had gone to her with his tail between his legs, something that Damian had firmly advised against, seeing as she was the one who jumped to blame.
This was only the beginning of the downfall, arguments getting louder, happening more frequently, and towards the end, Jon fighting back. Damian had had the unpleasant experience of sitting in the middle of one, although he loved watching Jon fight back when she went too far.
Many times, they would end up on the Waynes front porch, or the Kents backyard, Jon leaning on Damian for comfort.
It was one of these nights where they watched the stars spread across the sky, Jon’s head in Damian’s lap.
He could pretend, for a minute, that this was real, that all of this here was for them two. These moments were savored, the small touches and honeyed words.
“Hey, Dami.”
Damian paused in playing with his curls, responding with a simple, “Hey, Jon.”
“You know about prom coming up? You gonna go?”
Damian paused. “Dunno.”
“Can I tell you something?”
“You can always tell me anything, you know that.”
“I don’t think I want to take Haisley to prom. I…I don’t even know how much longer we’re gonna last, the way these things are going.”
Something absolutely explodes in him, overwhelming his person with hope and excitement and disgust.
Disgust at himself for this.
“I see.” he settled on. Jon must have seen the emotions battle across his face because he turned a kicked puppy expression to him.
“You…don’t think I’m a bad person for this, do you?” his voice was shaky, perhaps on the verge of tears.
Damian was quick to soothe him, jumping in with an “I could never.”
“You deserve happiness, and if you feel like she’s hurting you, or you don’t feel that way anymore, you have to tell her. Especially if you don’t feel that way, because that could end up hurting the both of you.”
It was silent, the older boy absorbing his words. Then he smiled.
Just a small one, enough to see the pearly whites peak from soft pink lips. It was one that held the world to Damian, and however small, it made his heart skip a beat.
He wanted that smile to be directed towards him forever, to burn it into his memory along with all of his favorite memories of the boy.
It would stay forever, even if they wouldn’t.
After all, everything breaks at sometime, even the things created from the best and built to last.
“Thank you, D. Say, if I do ask Haisley, would you still come? To prom, I mean. Just cause she’s gonna wanna be with her girls and i’d like my company, maybe we can even find you a date!”
Damian paused, snapping out of the haze.
“I could find a group to go with, if you would like me to. I do have friends besides you, you know.” He teased lightly.
“Of course.” He stuck his tongue out at him. “But I’m still your number one boy.”
“Always.” Damian said, without hesitation, however the admission might have seemed.
He supposed it was possible that it could have been too blunt, as Jon’s pale complexion sported splotches of pink after, his blue eyes avoiding his gaze.
“It’s getting late. I should go.” He stood, shaking out his hair from where Damian had been toying with it.  “See you tomorrow, D. Thank you for…all of it.”
“Of course” He stood as well, watching as Jon stuck his hands in his pockets and made his way up the street, watching until he turned the corner and disappeared.
With a  quiet sigh, he walked back inside, shedding his day clothes for sweats  and a loose top.
However tempting it might have been for them, his siblings said nothing as he settled on the couch between his two youngest brothers, scribbling words mindlessly.
He had half a song when he retired for the night, burning in shame as he read the cheerful, wanting words on the page. There was half a mind to tear it out, shred it into pieces. Guilt tore into him, the scribbles feeling as though he was exploiting what Jon had told him and wrapping it up in pretty paper to serve it to the masses.  But another part, the one he despised and was repulsed by on a daily basis, told him to keep it.
Indecisive, and acting much like a child, he shoved it under his bed, the page burning a hole in his pillow the rest of the night.
_____________________________________________________________
It was back to the same old thing the next day, Jon and Haisley making up and going on as if nothing had happened.
It was times like these that Damian would feel actual concern, more than usual. If this cycle of pain continued, surely he would have to step in.
He ranted about this to Colin in P.E, who’d shrugged, and then Skyler in Art who had seen many similar things in her own friends, and now to Akira during lunch. They watched him pace, whisper-scream because it was a library and then slump in a beanbag chair.
“ Why do I love him?” He whispered, surprising even himself. He turned to Akira with a plea. They raised an eyebrow at him, bookmarking a page and saying gently.
“This is the first time in the twenty rants you’ve gone on this month that you’ve told me you love him. That means something. I know what, but I'm not going to tell you.”
“Because this is the part of the story where the main character has to figure their own way out with only the cryptid words of the friend?” Damian asked, voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Yes, actually. And my cryptid wisdom for you has probably been yelled at you by everyone else you talked to today. It’s to tell him. And at the very least, do something with yourself that helps you. I don’t wanna hear the ‘but my best friend’ bullshit, just say it, and if you’re as good as friends as you say you are, he’ll let it go and y’all will go on with your normal life.”
Akira stuck their nose back into the book, letting Damian mull over the words that he’d been plagued with the whole day. They weren’t wrong, Colin had said the same thing at the beginning of sprints and Skylar had recounted past experiences.
His siblings had been drilling this into him for the past two years and it had never seemed in any way possible, but now it might even be necessary.
He got up as the bell rang, departing to his next class.
He deduced that if Jon didn’t ask Haisley, and they actually did break up, there was no rule against him taking Jon.
If he was ever going to tell him, it would be that week of prom. There was a month left, and as Damian entered his house, he ran for his bed and pulled out the half-finished song.
This was it. If he was truly going through with this, it would be on his terms, through his preferred medium.
Song.

Ontario Power Generation and the province are planning three more small modular reactors at the site of the Darlington nuclear power plant, located in Clarington, Ont., which is about 70 kilometres east of Toronto.
One small modular reactor (SMR) is already being built there, with construction of the first unit set to be complete by 2028.
Ontario Power Generation president Ken Hartwick says the planned fleet of SMRs would produce 1,200 megawatts of electricity, enough to power the equivalent of 1.2 million homes by the mid-2030s.
That is around when rising electricity demand is projected to surpass supply by about 5,000 megawatts and Energy Minister Todd Smith has made a number of recent announcements aimed at closing that gap, including a new, large-scale nuclear plant at Bruce Power on Lake Huron.
Smith says it is part of Ontario's plan to meet electricity demand with emissions-free power, though some critics have warned about relying on SMRs as a relatively untested power source. Small modular reactors use similar technology to traditional nuclear power plants, but they are much smaller. [...]

Note from the poster @el-shab-hussein: I'm not sure if environmental activists mean "let's create another underwater mausoleum for nuclear waste" by "emissions-free".

On Shields, Armour, And Vehicles With Both
Ever since making this post a while back, I haven't stopped thinking of how I might try to 'balance' shields and armour, and I've come up with two ideas. Here they are.
Tagging @oddcryptidwrites @theprissythumbelina @nerdexer @caxycreations @hessdalen-globe
@kckramer @vyuntspakhkite-l-darling
Author's Note; the following post is stupidly, incredibly long winded, and occasionally employs some language most sane people will never come across. I'm sorry.
What The Shield Is
The short answer here, is very expensive. That pretty much answers the question of why so few non-UC militaries used it until recently, which is neat, but the United Commonwealth famously doesn't give to shits about cost if it makes for better-enough-than-everyone-else's equipment.
The long answer, and the more relevant one, is that the actual equipment involved in shielding armoured vehicles is bulky and heavy, which means that as far as volume and weight goes the balance between armour and shielding is still in the latter's favour, but to a significantly lower degree than my first plans implied. 'Protective Field Projectors', to use the in-world terminology, are basically the size and profile of the sorts of cameras they use to make films;
Tumblr media
But with stuff coming out of the 'lens' rather than coming in. Full, all-aspect protection will require several individual projectors, especially if you intend on layering them.
Bumping up the weight and volume constraints also applies to the auxiliary equipment that the projectors need to operate. In particular, I'm taking a page out of all good sci-fi and demanding the use of thermal energy regulation systems to shed the monumental amount of energy these shields output both to operate normally and especially when having to take hits in combat. These, plus some pretty beefy power generation requirements, and all the wiring needed to connect these sub-systems, will all put a pretty nasty penalty on including a truly top-shelf shield system on your vehicle.
A small note to end this section, but since I intend for technology to develop pretty quickly in the 20 or so years that the 'great wars' take place over, I absolutely expect for miniaturisation and optimisation to significantly improve the technology surrounding these 'field projectors'. All the same, there's a reason the competition between protection and weaponry is an 'arms race', and the constant ramping up of the anti-shield threat will mean even improved protection systems will struggle mightily to keep pace, and sheer mass of system will be important.
What The Shield Does
And yet, if shields were truly universally indomitable, all these significant restrictions would merely take shielded vehicles down a peg, not give good ol' heavy metal (or ceramic) a lease on life. This is where specifying the types of munition that shields operate best against might be helpful.
For a brief intro into the world of modern 'Anti-Tank', most weapons seeking to kill armoured vehicles rely on either kinetic energy or chemical energy penetrators. These are, respectively;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The former relies on concentrating a massive amount of kinetic energy into a single, hardened point in the form of that 'long rod', while the latter uses an explosive to deform a conical shape of metal into a fast moving, 'semi-liquid' jet.
The actual distinction as far as this armour-shields thing is concerned will be that shields will perform highly effectively against shaped charges. The most 'state of the art' ground vehicle mounted shield systems can effectively pre-detonate the warhead at a significant stand-off distance from the vehicle, and the resulting premature stream will have its penetrative capacity weakened by the resulting 'air gap' and be gradually broken up by successive layers of shields in that space between the point of detonation and the hull.
The real distinguishing point here is how shields work, which I'm going to explain as briefly as I can, and keeping Magic System talk to a minimum. The flat plane projected by a 'field projector' works sort of like a belt, coming out one side, being spread out and 'held' at points in the air in front of it, then coming back in.
This physical field is what the warhead impacts, but it's important to note that the field almost never actually tries to outright stop what's hitting it. At the speeds and amounts of energy modern weaponry produces, the sudden spike of energy shot through the projector mechanisms that stopping something dead would entail could very well 'flare out' that delicate machinery and render it useless, regardless of whether the incoming threat was stopped or not, and that's before factoring in the damage this would have on the shield's cooling system.
When it comes to shaped charges, the resistance required just to detonate the warhead a good distance away would hardly overpower even the earliest shields to enter actual service, and by layering shields and carefully tailoring their 'degree of resistance' you can sorta get the same effect that Explosive Reactive Armour and composite armour provides in breaking up the resulting jet.
Kinetic penetrators, however, can punch with such an overwhelming amount of energy that even successive layers of modern shielding can be overcome by the most top-shelf penetrators, failing in sequence to preserve the projector itself.
This is not helped by the presence of certain 'Magi-materials' in the 12 Worlds whose properties take those desired in penetrators (density, hardness, and strength) and dial them up to 11. In short, if someone really wants to punch through shields, they can, and they will, as long as they can put together a good enough APFSDS shot.
This, then, is where armour comes in.
The same fucky-wucky 'Magic-ifieid' materials science that makes things like the aforementioned long rod penetrator possible have led to quick some buggery in the world of modern armour, making it leagues better than the options available in real life. 'Face hardened crystal plate', for example, can withstand immense amounts of force without cracking, and is now widely used across the UC's frontline combat vehicles.
Now, time for caveats. Firstly, this is not to say that shields will have absolutely no effect on kinetic penetrators. Depending on the angle they impact at, the resistance the shield offers before failing might be enough to induce a 'tumble' in the penetrator's flight profile, which can undermine its penetrative performance once it hits the hull. That being the case, once it does hit the hull, let's just say you'll be wishing you had the armour between the long rod and yourself.
Secondly, the fact that I've buffed armour to hell and back raises the question of why, then, one would bother investing in shields at all. The short answer to this is that armour's weight and impact on internal volume poses limits on 'how much' of it you can have, and where on the vehicle it goes. The long answer, is below.
The One With The Other
We've settled how shields and armour each function individually, but in order to figure out what the actual state of protection looks like on the battlefield, we still have to consider what the threats out there actually look like. The answer is... complicated.
To make a reference to current-day threats to armoured vehicles, the short answer, as I see it, is this; on a modern battlefield, you are far, far more likely to encounter someone slinging shaped charges in your direction, than kinetic darts, be it in the form of shells, missiles, or even drones once those become a thing.
You see, here's something I didn't mention previously about the distinction between these two classes of ordnance; kinetic penetrators rely on impacting a target at speed, which requires them being shot out of a high velocity cannon and means that their performance is (to a degree) reduced with range. Shaped charges, on the other hand, could detonate standing still and inflict the exact same amount of damage - literally, in the case of the sorts of mines which use such warheads.
This property makes a shaped charge warhead much easier to deliver onto a target's forehead than a kinetic penetrator, increasing the variety of potential delivery mechanisms.
Since, then, shaped charges are the more prevalent threat of the two, it makes sense to invest quite heavily in a highly effective and cost efficient defence against them in the form of shields. Kinetic penetrators thus become a more specialised but still highly lethal threat, which creates a need for a capability which can perform its mission in the face of their presence - in short, a heavily armoured vehicle.
Handily for me, the prevalence of shields itself also requires that at least some effort be put into fielding the kinetic penetrators that're best suited to knocking them out.
So... How Do We Use It?
Of course, how, precisely, the two 'swords' on the one hand and the two 'shields' (heh) on the other interact in practice is contingent on a host of other factors, and these capabilities themselves are just small inputs into the much larger picture of military competition. Nonetheless, I shall at least try to answer this question specifically in the case of the United Commonwealth Army, which first introduced shields into the world of land warfare and has developed that technology to its greatest extent.
The whole force structure of the UCA's deployable field force is divided into categories according to the types and intensities of conflict each is expected to engage in. 'Light forces' include both the Airborne Corps and other rapidly mobile troops lacking in heavy equipment, and is designed for rapid intervention into emerging crises the Worlds over on a moment's notice. 'Armoured forces', on the other hand, is comprised of said heavy equipment in excess, slow to move but nigh unstoppable when it does, and serves to duke it out with similarly well armed belligerents in open battle.
The needs of these various 'classes' of troop thus inform the types of capability they need or are willing to part with, and for the purposes of this discussion 'protection' tends to be the first thing on the chopping block. For example, 'Skyjumpers' (name pending) patrolling an urban area in the midst of intense civil unrest are a lot less likely to be shot at by state of the art missiles or guns than an armoured battalion fighting another, and so Airborne troops were late to adopt the earliest, bulkiest models of shield projector, and even now employ only light shielding against obsolete systems and small arms. The amount of mass and volume dedicated to shields generally increases with the actual mass and size of the vehicles in question, though actual hard armour is typically excluded.
Now to turn to the subject that began this whole rant and the original post above, the actual 'heavily armoured', high intensity forces themselves. For reference to some terms I'll be using, here's a common graphic that defines the traits of most ground vehicles;
Tumblr media
Let's start with some commonalities. Everything in this weight class is tracked, and working with a much higher 'base' / minimum weight and volume limit than the stuff above. The threats posed by an actual organised and equipped enemy army are much more vigorous than what insurgents can offer, and the UC's response to that is to place an absolute premium on protection across the vehicle fleet. Finally, considerations such as NBC protection, optics, and communications should be pretty much standard across all vehicles here.
We can now turn to the differences that set our vehicles apart, and it's here that we come across another simplified dichotomy to add to this list; you can either have a big weapon and lots of protection, or infantry and some protection, but not both.
The need to bring along infantry in a vehicle makes things challenging. "About eight passengers with baggage" comes out to a helluva lot of internal volume, which is what makes including a 'big gun' with its turret and ammunition highly impractical. The sheer size that this class of vehicles will grow to also limits the amount of protection that can be included to a greater extent that sheer tonnage might imply.
On the flip side, going with only crew members leaves significantly more room for whatever weapon system you have in mind as well as protection, though some trade offs will still be needed. As for what specific weapon we're using, the size and weight needed to operate a high velocity cannon needed to deal with shielded targets nicely coincides with the availability of both in this infantry-less vehicle - a missile armed vehicle is certainly possible, but the versatility of cannons outside of just shooting kinetic penetrators means they can deal with a wider variety of targets than highly specialised missiles which, in the UC, can be brought into battle by a variety of other vehicles. (And no, they don't try and launch missiles from guns, but that's a long topic for another time.)
Now that the relative physical characteristics of these two categories of vehicle are pretty well defined, we can now ask how these considerations shape the 'protection schemes' of either.
For the infantry transports, creatively called Armoured Infantry Transports (AITs) in the UCA, actual armour has been largely cut down in favour of doubling down on shields. This, again, ties into the much greater prevalence of shaped charge based threats to armoured vehicles, especially in the hands of enemy infantry that AITs can expect to get up close and personal with.
For the similarly creatively named Armoured Combat Vehicles (ACVs), or 'guntracks', these can afford to have both armour and shields, and in bulk. Armour is concentrated on the turret and in the front facing aspect of a guntrack, but while AIT shields cover all angles equally, guntracks especially concentrate their shields on the side and rear, which usually lack the special composite plates reserved for the front.
A Final Note On Shields
It should be kept in mind that everything in the post above should be taken to apply specifically and exclusively to ground vehicles and their shields. The actual 'protective field' technology was, in fact, equally pioneered by the UC Navy, and the sheer scale and mass that they have to work with has resulted in significantly realities for how shields can function, and different courses of action and adaptation.
