Female Character-Centric Masterlist 2
part one
5 Times MJ Made a Friend (+1 Time She Wanted More) (ao3) - juurensha mj/peter G, 3k
Summary: It’s hard moving to a new school, but maybe hanging out with a bunch of nerds is exactly what MJ needs. Also, she tells Spiderman to call her MJ because really, who does Peter think he’s kidding?
A glimpse from future (ao3) - Kanelore N/R, 20k
Summary: Peggy Carter has seen a lot of unusual things in Stark mansion, specially when walking into Howard’s lab after hearing a sound of explosion, but she never expected this “Howard, why am I seeing a kid in your lab?”
You know all those fics where Howard comes to the future? Well basically in this, kid Tony goes back in time where Howard is much better.
A Head Full of Doubt/A Road Full of Promise (ao3) - sergeant_angel G, 210k
Summary: There are a lot of stories that don’t quite fit into Riptide (or, Kate’s story isn’t the only one that’s going to be told)
A Morbid Taste for Ice (ao3) - sitehound darcy/loki M, 198k
Summary: Darcy Lewis likes to think of herself as terribly adaptable, with an “If life gives you lemons, zap life with a Taser and demand chocolate” sort of attitude. And life, lately, has had a perverse sense of humor, first trapping her in a state of perpetual Science Assistant in the armpit of New Mexico known as Puente Antiguo; and then forcing her to live in a trailer home with Jane Foster, Jane’s guy, Thor, and his brother, Loki, master of mischief and wide-scale urban renewal.
But Darcy’s not about to let her situation get her down. She’s managed to get pretty good at her job, and with liberal application of a credit card, made her rustic house a home. And wielding a Taser and armored by her snarky wit, she’s more than a match for the God of Mischief.
Stumbling face-first over the frozen body of a friend on the front porch, however, is more than even mostly unflappable Darcy can handle. The obvious suspect is her mentally unstable roommate. But despite all his other faults, Darcy is certain Loki isn’t the perpetrator. And not just because she’s starting for fall for him….
an exchange of voices in repetition (ao3) - sandyk pepper/tony M, 4k
Summary: Pepper hadn’t really thought about the difficulties of planning a wedding around all the rest of her life.
Beckoning from Beyond the Mirror (ao3) - ParanoidInPink G, 29k
Summary: It’s Halloween night. Cassie Lang is getting ready for the evening when she’s met with an apparition and tragedy strikes. She is the first of many to fall into a fatal, comatose-like state that doctors can’t explain. Scott is desperate and turns to the only man he knows who could possibly cure the supernatural scourge. Little did he know of the adversary he’d soon have to face.
Bygone (ao3) - inkbert darcy/steve N/R, 88k
Summary: While Jane and Thor search the universe in order to find Darcy after a lab accident, Darcy wakes up still on Earth, just decades in the past. Darcy continues to travel through time, skipping ahead years at a time, and staying for as little as a few months or for as long as a year. She has a rock-solid friendship with Rebecca Barnes, and Howard Stark on Fridays at six to see her through.
Cassie & Peter Being Buds (ao3) - whumphoarder G, 8k
Summary: The adventures of Peter babysitting 10-year-old Cassie Lang.
come over (we don’t need no reason why) (ao3) - anyorangeslices scott/hope E, 39k
Summary: ‘Hope van Dyne really hates dating apps, but she doesn’t let that stop her from using them.’
Hope matches with Scott on Tinder. They try - and fail - to keep things casual.
darkness will be rewritten (ao3) - princessironspider natasha/tony N/R, 104k
Summary: Peter is Tony’s biological child.
Natasha Romanoff has been married to Tony Stark secretly for years.
What would the movies be like if this were the case?
Finding Family (ao3) - aparticularbandit wanda/vision M, 374k
Summary: When America begins universe-hopping again to try and find her moms, she realizes that’s too much scope for her. She looks for smaller scope, and instead she finds Wanda.
five times Laura Barton opened her door (and one time a door was opened for her) (ao3) - twistedingenue clint/laura G, 7k
Summary: She’s been making her life here, where things are quiet and uncomplicated, and uprooting herself would — well, there are things she’d rather not do and risks she’d rather not take anymore.
Forged in Sparks (ao3) - SailorChibi T, 8k
Summary: Being kidnapped by Hydra wouldn’t be anyone’s idea of fun, and that included Shuri. She had no idea what Hydra wanted with her - or with the scruffy, skinny man in the cell right next to her.
Gamora, You’re a Fine Girl (ao3) - Meraki_fics gamora/peter G, 4k
Summary: Gamora has never been good at emotions, being raised by a genocidal maniac does that to a person. Emotions are a weakness, at least that’s how Thanos raised his borrowed children. Emotions were not something she ever spent time on or paid any attention to. However, in her new home with her new family, emotions were something to be aware of.
Hold Back The River (ao3) - GoddessOfDestruction hank/janet G, 7k
Summary: Seven snippets, seven years of Hope’s life and her relation with Hank (and Janet) from her birth to the day Hope learned about her mother’s alleged death.
i just want to make a change (ao3) - subwaycars kate/america G, 24k
Summary: After everything, America is the constant Kate expected least.
Laura (fanfiction.net) - Danzinora Switch clint/laura T, 8k
Summary: Snapshots and scenes through the years of Laura’s life; mainly focusing on her relationship with Clint.
oh no! (ao3) - grimeysociety darcy/steve, pepper/tony E, 89k
Summary: Tony Stark is running for President, and he wants Darcy Lewis to run his campaign. She must navigate the new world of dirty politics and grandstanding, with her rival campaign manager Steve Rogers complicating every part of her professional and personal life.
One Tuesday Morning in Wakanda (ao3) - hantumomo G, 4k
Summary: To help Bucky, Shuri sets herself a dangerous task.
Angst, a not-so-secret admirer, a gender non-conforming AI, and minor goaty shenanigans add to the fun.
She’s With Us (fanfiction.net) - Annabelle536 T, 45k
Summary: In hindsight Wanda should’ve known she wasn’t joining a team…she was joining a family. And each member made her feel like she was part of it, in their own little way. Complete. Now with an epilogue!
take me back (ao3) - jaybaybay T, 47k
Summary: Peter and Shuri are kidnapped by a gang of bandits who demand ransom money for the princess of Wakanda. They’ll soon find out that they have more than one prize in their grasp.
Violets in Bloom (ao3) - StoriesbyReese peggy/angie T, 61k
Summary: The story of Peggy Carter and Angie Martinelli following S2 of Agent Carter.
It begins when Peggy returns from L.A. with a new understanding of her feelings for her best friend and flatmate, but will she be able to act on this new understanding? Angie has always known how she feels, but she doesn’t think Peggy feels the same.
What will life have in store for them if and when they go get their act together?
An exploration of what could have been for Peggy and Angie and their life together. This story follows the pair through their lives.

Hello! I enjoyed your true detective "out of time man" fic a LOT! Specifically the quotes included in the beginning of each chapter.
I was wondering, since some of the quotes seem to be from academic books which one you would recommend to read first if one were to look into reading them? I really enjoy the subject and would love to dig into it further. Which one was your favourite? Are they difficult reads? Would you recommend something else to start with? Thank you so much !
hi, thank you so much! very proud of that one. and i'd absolutely recommend getting more into criticism and theory around american culture and mythology, it's been so rewarding and illuminating.
in terms of what you should read, the most formative and comprehensive one with regards to rodeo subcultures was Outriders: Rodeo at the Fringes of the American West by Rebecca Scofield (Univ of Washington Press, 2019). it takes you through not just gay rodeo but prison rodeo, the role of race at the rodeo, and women's involvement too, both historically and today. given a lot of our popularly received imagery of the rodeo limits it to the cishet white male body, a body that is free and able and doing it without coercion or power dynamics, scofield's text is invaluable as a starting point to deconstruct that very imagery.
then there's Rodeo Cowboys in the North American Imagination, by Michael Allen. this is your more typical account of the myth of the rodeo, again lending it a critical lens but not diving quite so deep into its underbelly. still, a solid grounding on the basics.
something i loved on the more general modern mythology of the american west through a postmodern lens was The Cultures of the American New West, by Neil Campbell, which describes the 'hyperreality' of the new west and its dependence on image.
and on the western genre was The Myth of the Western by Matthew Carter, which is an excellent introduction to western, neo-western, and anti-western, examining the mythologising role the western plays and how that role has since been subverted.
i'd say each of these is definitely worth a read as a starting point, and then just follow through into their bibliographies and see where they take you. i think the scofield is probably the easiest read of these, being both factual and analytical, where the campbell is probably the most difficult, requiring something of a grounding in postmodern theory first — i'd say something i found very accessible in my early postmodern days was (sorry) the essay e unibus pluram by david foster wallace. it was written in the 90s and so reflects the contemporary anxieties about television but otherwise is a decent and almost gentle introduction to the central concerns of postmodernism and the time beyond it: the primacy of image, the difficulty of the quest for meaning in such a world.
some other readings more in the vein of the detective genre, its relationship to gender, horror, and genre resistance, all of which i've brought to my reading of true detective and my writing of out of time man:
Marshall, Sarah. 2022. “Violent Delights.” The Believer. https://www.thebeliever.net/violent-delights/.
Goldsmith, Clarissa Susan. 2022. Hope Despite Horror: Theorizing Oppositional Horror and Aesthetics of Resistance in Multicultural Horror. Doctoral dissertation, Arizona State University. ProQuest (Order No. 29396682).
this is a lot to be going on with so feel free to send me another ask if you want more details/to sift through them! in terms of rodeo in specific i'd definitely begin with outriders. this is also a very narrow selection — there's a whole world of scholarship out there, some more obscure than others, and you're always learning. if i think of any more i'll do another post!

I've heard a couple different things about how Billy's relationship to the Kaplans is going to be portrayed- with the consistent thing being that they're going to severely downplay it and that he won't consider them his 'real' parents- is it pessimistic of me to say that it looks like that might end up being true?
The preview for the next episode has him explicitly referring to himself as Billy Maximoff. Not Billy Kaplan. Which could easily be simply because it's the surname with more recognition and association tied to it, but it has me preemptively gearing myself for those rumors to be true. Already didn't feel like a good sign that Jeff and Rebecca's casting calls say they must be "authentically Jewish" versus Locke himself emphasizing the importance of authentic casting; I know it was in reference to Billy's queer identity specifically but it still struck me as odd and uninformed.
It's not pessimistic, it's realistic, and I don't know what you were expecting, or what you think the "better" option would be.
I've always assumed that they would want to sidestep the reincarnation plotline in favor of a more straightforward adoption/foster care situation. I'm not saying that's right, I just think this is one of those extremely comic-booky, logistically weird things that the M C U would try to avoid. It's not surprising to me, at all, that the end goal was for Billy to return as Wanda's son, no other strings attached. But we still have no clue how he came to be, you know, alive and real, or why he's living with the Kaplans in the first place. It's too soon to say and I have zero interest in baseless speculation.
If he is Jeff and Rebecca's biological child, but he remembers his past life and just doesn't consider them his parents, that's weird as hell. I'm not sure if it's offensive-- I guess if he actively rejects being Jewish, that would be-- it's just weird and sad. But this actor was not appropriately cast to play any version of Billy Maximoff or Kaplan, and there's no way it could have been written that would make that better?

A disclaimer before I share: Rebecca Kiessling has not been supportive of Jen after Abby Johnson had lied about her history. HOWEVER, something disgusting has happened recently that has put innocent victims at risk due to unethical journalism. From Kiessling’s Facebook page:
Friends, I'm going to change my social media habits and post my personal things for "Facebook friends only" because of my horrible experience with a reporter and because I've been harassed by people who I've blocked who still use others they know to creep on my page, or use fake accounts to stalk me, and then harass me - people who don't understand what "leave me alone" means and don't care how much they hurt others. I've had an open page since the beginning - roughly 2006, because I'm considered to be a public figure. I've enjoyed the opportunity to meet wonderful people from all over the globe - people who've heard me speak and would like to follow me through my open Timeline. I have a public figure page - Rebecca Kiessling Pro-Life Speaker, but more people have clearly preferred to just follow me on my personal Timeline as opposed to liking that page. I'm not Facebook friends with everyone I meet because there is a Facebook friend limit. As you've seen, I have posted personal things publicly because I haven't wanted to be one-dimensional. I value real connection - not merely posting about abortion and pro-life stuff all the time. My life is more than that, and I think that's an inherent part of my pro-life testimony - I'm a real person with ups and downs in life like any of you, but my life is valuable, just like yours. I've shared my tragedies and I've shared my times of joy. I've felt that posting real-life things, big and small, has fostered developing closer relationships with those I've met because amazing conversations arise when we share our lives, whether it's just encouraging posts, talking about the weather, hobbies, challenges or a movie we enjoyed.
With the recent release of The New Yorker article and the almost year-long experience of interviews for what was originally supposed to be an article about terminating parental rights of rapists, I now see the need to limit my personal Timeline. I've already hidden some personal posts and I'm going to permanently make all of my past posts private. I also had to make my friends list private because... The New Yorker reporter was somehow able to spend months scouring years of my public posts, and found one with my paternal cousin (once removed). In conjunction with my once-public friends list of nearly 5,000, was inexplicably somehow able to ascertain who my biological father is. I didn't find this out until I read the New Yorker article which said that the reporter had actually placed a phone call to the man who raped my mother. (He shockingly did the same with other rape victims interviewed for the story, despite his promise to protect them.) The article says my bio father hung up the phone when my name was mentioned, but according to numerous paternal family members, this man is still dangerous, has a bad temper, is extremely violent, etc. and recommended I never meet him. I want to be safe, my birthmom and family to be safe, so I've never met him and I've kept it all private for that very reason.
I have been through hell in my life and I don't have the bandwidth to deal with cyber stalkers. I've made certain that no one else can access this kind of information, but there are other cyber stalkers harassing me as well, including the Satanic Temple psychos who've harassed me since their leader took the abortion pill on-air when we were on a political debate program Fox 2 Detroit last March (I think it was.) I've blocked hundreds since.
I'm just done with it. My peace is more important. So please accept my apologies, but to the roughly 10,000 people who follow me on my Timeline who aren't actually Facebook friends with me, the posts from me that you will see will just be about pro-life activism, maybe some other encouraging things. But I haven't been posting nearly as much activism as I used to since my sons' deaths, so you probably won't see much from me. I'm so sorry.
For my facebook friends, you'll still see all of my typical posts. But I may narrow my friends list if I feel anyone isn't honoring healthy boundaries. If only everyone would just be courteous and willing to live at peace.
The article in question is here. Kiessling has not asked anyone to write to the New Yorker demanding apologies for putting victims in danger, but if you read that publication regularly and/or are subscribed, please consider demanding justice from the editors for allowing this journalist to act so unethically.

Good Mourning, All that we see or seem is but a cemetery within a cemetery, or whatever Edgar Allan Poe said. Fast growing as the sycamore, Indianapolis developed and stretched its branches outward, replacing small residential areas with industrial parks. Nestled amongst the residential areas were not only homes, but the family burial plots along with them. In an effort to preserve the smaller pioneering cemeteries, lost to time and industrialization. The Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhoads Cemetery, and Wright-Whitesell-Gentry Cemetery were relocated to the Pioneer Cemetery within Crown Hill, each grave dug the same way they were originally by hand. The Greenlawn Cemetery, established in 1821 was the first cemetery known to exist in Indianapolis, originally located near the White River on the southwest end of Kentucky Avenue. In the year of 1912, over 1,160 pioneers originally buried in Greenlawn Cemetery were moved to Crown Hill. This memorial honors these original citizens of Indianapolis including Colonel Aaron C. Johnson, former Sheriff of Fayette Co. Ohio, Veteran of the War of 1812, Sarah A. Baker, Clarence Cooper, Craighead (four unknown), Mary Francis Cunningham, John Given, W.D., Barbara and Sarah Hanch, Nancy F., Julia P., Infant John and George Hollands, David, Martha R., Mary, John, Moses, John, Rebecca A. Margaret, Martha A. and infants Hunter, John W. and Wife, James M. Johnson, Lawson (two unknown), Lewis (one unknown), Benjamin Orr, Eli, Elizabeth and Mary I. Petticord, George Porter, Phillip, Jenny and one unknown Sponable, Iane and Minnie Wallace, Abner S. West and Benjamin Yates. Wright-Whitesell-Gentry Cemetery, established in 1841. Originally a small cemetery located on the Wright family farm in Lawrence Township. In 2008, twelve adults, fourteen children and seven infants were reburied in their final resting place within Crown Hill Cemetery. Members of the Wright family, headed by the Reverend James T. Wright, founder of the church now known as Castleton United Methodist Church, and extended family members of the Whitesell, Gentry, Easterday and Gates families were buried in the small cemetery with the last burial taking place in 1905. Also interred is Civil War Private John W. Gentry, who served in the 26th Indiana, Co. "I" from March of 1864 until it was disbanded in January 1866. Much like the Greenlawn Cemetery and Wright-Whitesell-Gentry Cemetery, the Rhoads Cemetery was a small cemetery established in 1844. In 1999, twelve adults and thirty-four children of the Rhoads, Rude, Foster, Foltz and Johns families were buried at their final resting site within Crown Hill. Among the identified burials are James Rhoads, died - 1844, Hanna Rhoads died - 1849, Sarah Rhoads died 1857, John Rhoads died - 1860, Emma Rude died - 1862, Willian Rude died - 1866 and William Rhoads died - 1906. Monday Mournings are in loving memory of the dearly departed. By exploring their burial sites we can connect to their lives, continuing to honor their memory so they will not be lost to time. Memento Mori. Rest In Peace, Mori 🥀

"Imagine running for miles through scorching desert heat, weighed down by heavy loads, the relentless sun your only companion. Your journey is not marked by the passing of time or distance, but by an indomitable spirit to endure. This is not a scene from an ultra-marathon, but a snapshot of the rigorous training undertaken by Apache warriors. These ancient endurance drills are not only pivotal for building physical stamina but also foster mental resilience, enabling these warriors to confront adversity with the resolve of a lion. The drills are a testament to the Apache philosophy that every challenge is a learning lesson and an opportunity for growth.

Endurance: The Apache Way of Life
The Apache community has a long-standing reverence for endurance. Their historical circumstances, marked by unforgiving terrains, unpredictable weather, and fierce adversaries, shaped this focus on endurance in their warrior training. Imagine training to be a warrior in the high desert, where the sun can bake the landscape to a crisp, or in the rugged mountains, where winter can be brutal and unyielding. It's like trying to flourish in a garden where the elements are more likely to wither than nurture.
Their training involved rigorous physical exercises such as long-distance running, carrying weighted loads, and swimming in icy rivers to improve cardiovascular fitness. These drills, akin to the chiseling of a sculptor, served dual purposes - developing physical prowess and instilling a sense of responsibility akin to the weight of the world on their shoulders.
A Cultural Tapestry Woven with Grit
Yet, these drills were more than just physical training. They held a deep cultural significance within Apache communities. Like the threads weaving through a traditional Apache basket, these drills strengthened the ties of their communal fabric. They fostered teamwork, reinforcing community bonds as tightly as a warrior's grip on his bow.
The Apache drills instilled core values such as discipline, perseverance, and commitment. They painted a vivid picture of the Apache wisdom that underscores the belief that true endurance stems not from bulging muscles but unwavering determination and inner strength.
Strength in Unity
The article weaves an Apache story into its narrative, highlighting how endurance drills form an essential part of Apache warrior preparation. The story emphasizes the concept of unity, akin to a chorus of voices harmonizing into a powerful anthem. It shows how warriors share tribulations, grow stronger together, and learn that true endurance arises from community support, like a single ember igniting a roaring fire.
The Importance of Endurance
Experts like Dr. John M. White, an anthropologist, and Dr. Rebecca Jones, a physical anthropology researcher, affirm the significance of endurance training for Apache warriors. This training, they suggest, is akin to a sharpened blade, allowing the warriors to cover vast landscapes and outlast their opponents. The training also intertwined with survival skills, creating warriors as strategically resilient as a chess grandmaster.
The Cornerstone of Apache Warrior Preparation
Endurance drills form the cornerstone of Apache warrior preparation. They build physical stamina, instill mental resilience, and forge a connection to their ancestors and the land, as deep-rooted as an ancient oak tree. These drills integrate traditional values, emphasizing unity, community, and respect for nature, akin to the harmonious symphony of a well-tuned orchestra.
Apache wisdom teaches that true strength lies within. It's like a diamond formed under pressure, unyielding and brilliant. By embracing endurance drills, Apache warriors transform challenges into opportunities for growth, the same way a lotus flower blooms amidst the mud.
Modern Relevance of Endurance Drills
The relevance of these endurance drills extends beyond the pages of history. Today, they can help us cultivate our warrior spirit, enhancing our daily performance, personal growth, and fostering a connection to a rich cultural heritage. By embracing these principles of endurance training, we can navigate life's struggles with resilience and strength, just as a seasoned sailor navigates through a storm.
So, the next time you find yourself facing a daunting challenge, remember the Apache warriors. Their endurance drills, shaped by the harsh realities of their environment and imbued with cultural significance, offer a blueprint for overcoming adversity. Like them, we can turn our challenges into stepping stones for growth. After all, in the crucible of endurance, we find our true strength."

Entry 1 - Funding Of a Major Sports Venue
This week’s entry will discuss the funding that major sports venues can experience and why such funding might be allocated. Firstly, with sport's ever-growing popularity, it has become evident to governments (both state and federal) that facilitating the creation, expansion and development of sporting arenas can promote health-centric ideologies, whilst also fostering economic growth through stadium expenditure (Bradbury, 2021). To reinforce this idea, Swindel and Rosenstraub (1998) list a multitude of reasons as to why government officials may support the construction of sporting venues. Ranging from the physical benefits, such as economic growth, job creation and the rejuvenation of localised businesses, whilst also assisting many indiscernible benefits such as heightened public image and increased national pride. This suggests that governments understand how the creation of stadiums can positively affect the morale of their citizens, thus in an attempt to appease their voters, governments will promise to and/or allocate resources to the creation and development of sporting venues to increase their voter's disposition in the hopes that it leads to re-election. The best example of this is currently occurring in the state of Tasmania as two sides of government are battling each other to properly determine the appropriate amount of funding they should commit to build a new stadium in Macquarie Point.
Artefact 1 – Macquarie Point (the proposed location for the new stadium)
Tumblr media
(Fox Sports, 2023)
The Australian Football League (AFL)  has stated that Tasmania will not receive an AFL if a new stadium is not built, but the $715m price tag is too hefty for both sides of government with Premier Jeremy Rockliff stating expenditure will be capped at $375M, whereas opposition leader Rebecca White is claiming that negotiations with the AFL should take place to loosen the ultimatum placed on the state of Tasmania (AAP, 2024).
Artefact 2 – Proposed Stadium Designs
Tumblr media
(Fox Sports, 2023)
This perfectly demonstrates Swindel and Rosenstraub’s (1998) notion that funding to sporting arenas will be given out depending on what the operating government believes will satisfy their voters more. However, ‌Alakshendra (2016) suggests that generating the majority of modern sports stadium funding through public tax schemes is inherently unfair as not every taxpayer that assists in raising funds will attend the recently developed sporting venue, thus the sizeable figures that are typically raised for sports venue funding should be better utilized and allocated to a sector that could improve the lives of a larger group of people, namely health care and education.
