Recommendation: Realms of Runeterra Audiobook
There is a book published by Riot games that sort of explains their universe called Realms of Runeterra. It came out in 2019.
Tumblr media
The most important thing you need to know is that you don't need to buy this book. If you have ever read a wikipedia article on any of the Runeterra/League of Legends/Arcane regions => 90% of the stuff in there is just copied straight of the books.
Like this stuff?
Tumblr media
is just copied from the Realms of Runeterra book.
IMO the book is quite pretty and almost has "coffee table" qualities. It has pretty pictures and collects together all the "wikipedia" information.
Intermixed with this a various short stories to give you some flavor for the regions. All of those short stories as not fully available online from what I can see, but they are also summed up by the various wikis.
So, now that I've explain why you don't need that book unless you want a pretty coffee table decoration: Realms of Runeterra works surprisingly well as an audiobook!
Which really surprised me because part of it has this encyclopedia/travel guide style. But then I spent one of my audible token on it, I actually had a really good time listening to it. Especially since I personally often struggle with enjoying short stories/reading short stories, especially if they are about non major characters.
But as stories being told to you, it actually brings in a nice variety.
When I thought back on the book, the ones that stuck out to me the most were Zaun, Noxus & Freljord and then Bilgewater.
I will now ramble on in more detail on the different short stories under the cut. But yes my review is, while it wasn't world changing I don't think that it's a "rush out, must buy at full price", if by any chance you have an audible token lying around, consider spending it on the Realms of Runeterra audiobook (especially if you are missing Arcane and want some vibes). [and no, this is not a referral/kickback link]
BTW, I'm not gonna spoil the stories in detail, but I will talk in detail about my feelings about that and that in itself can raise expectations/give off vibes. I'm talking about them in order of how much I like them.
Zaun: I find it hard to say whether this story is that high simply because of Arcane I just have the deepest emotional connection to Zaun as a region. The funny thing about this it is: I feel like I don't actually like that story. The characters kind of feel like they are almost more like blueprints ("the scrappy street urchin", "the haughty Piltover assassin" aka proto Camille, "the mysterious chem baron" aka proto Silco) rather than real fully fledged character and I kind of don't care for the story itself (both the main action story and the implied past backstory) and find it a bite trite => But I have to say with real grudging respect, despite all these real complaints and gripes with the story, I can't deny that it really stuck with me despite all of this. And to me that is one of the best compliments that I can give.
Noxus: I low key feel that might be the best story of the book that really does a good job of fleshing out the region and the mindset while feeling very real. I could see this story being boring to others, but I think if you have at any point cared about international politics it's a really fascinating story about colonialism/imperialism. It really fleshes out the concept of the war mason and what it's really like to be some random place under Noxus.
Freljord: Now this is a very simple story. I feel like it's plot can probably be summed in a single sentence. But somehow I still really liked it and I think it did a good job of portraying its characters and world. Bascically: it had the vibes. I think this story might have been greatly enhanced by the fact that I play the Legends of Runeterra card game and this story is I think where I had by big "aha!" moment and realized that many of the Legends of Runeterra cards are actually based on stories from this book. So I could nerd out "OMG, I have had this card played against me!" respectively I had the visiual of the card in my mind.
==> I find it interesting that when it comes to my top 3, none of them feature a champion as a main character, that they are all about normal grunt people
Anyway, on the with ranking:
Bilgewater: First story to feature a champion and it's one of my faves from a story/lore perspective Kindred. The lore is very cool the characterization is good. I think the main reason why this is slightly lower than the other is because man this story is effing weird.
Shadow Isles: I feel like this story should probably be higher in the rankings based on quality alone, but I have to dock it points because when I was trying to think about my favorite stories from the book it completely slipped my mind that that it was even part of it. I do think that it is well written and moody, the Champion in question is well used, the main conflict is actually interesting and well done and the threats feel interesting and believable and the lore implications are very intriguing. Plus it did a good job establishing a decent amount of "canon fodder" supporting characters in a small scale. It also feel like it gave me a new angle to the Shadow Isles I hadn't really considered.
Ionia: Just overall decent and solid. One of the larger roles of a popular champion. Not too many characters but they feel well rounded and the world feels well portrayed, you buy that this just a small moment in a larger conflict. I guess it's this low becaues it feels like a very standard mystical kung fu tale, so maybe a bit pedestrian (yes, despite the fact that it does feature magic). It has a very lengthy setup that successfully invokes a lot of martial arts movies and in that it is very vivid, as in I can easily picture the scene in my mind, but I guess I feel it doesn't fully grow much beyond that. I feel like I would have preferred a story that delved deeper into the more mystical/Vastaya aspect of Ionia or the story could have done with a twist (or maybe a better twist? all the ones it had felt pretty predictable?). Still a solid story.
Shurima: I think this story was harmed because it's actually very important characterization for a certain champion and because of that I was "spoiled" for it by having it already be covered by various League lore channels. (plus I wonder if you are Arcane only and don't follow the lore channel whether the mysticism of the story would hit or wheher you would be confused why you should care about this people). The main character is likable but yeah I was hit by "oh, that story" and it didn't really grow beyond that.
Demacia: I'm sorry Cithria, I really like you in Legends of Runeterra, but this story was quite boring to me. The main topic of story is the in universe game of Tellstones and maybe it was harmed by the fact that 1.) I know what Tellstones is and how it works 2.) I know that from a board game point of view, it's actually really terrible. The story tries very valiantly to make it interesting and exciting but yeah I feel like eve if you don't have this exposure to Tellstones beforehand, I think it just isn't happening/it's just not that interesting.

Note
I don't know if you do crossovers, but if you do, how would viktor react to a spider-person S/O? Spidersonas have been blowing up again since across the spiderverse so it made me curious
when it comes to spiderverse i absolutely do, anon! i've seen some fantastic art of jayce and viktor in the style of spiderverse, i think i reblogged it somewhere, so to say 'i love this idea' and 'i've had a little think about it already' would be two big understatements!
i'll try to keep it succinct though XD
☾ ₊ ˚ ✩ ˚ 。 ☽
How Viktor would react to having a spider-person SO
honestly, the word 'fascinated' could tldr this entire post
Viktor is quite a private person, who would absolutely treasure communication and trust in a relationship
so as the Spider of the Runeterran universe, as soon as you had made your relationship official, you knew you had to tell him of your secret identity sooner rather than later
you'd been surprised neither he nor Jayce had worked it out yet, being incredibly intelligent inventors and all
but you'd figured they'd be safer not knowing, so you'd tried to subtly keep it from them anyway, and directed the conversation away from your Spider-alter ego whenever they occasionally came up
so you had it planned out.
you were going to tell Viktor next time he was at home, when you got him in a break day, and it was going to be the just the two of you. somewhere private, somewhere safe.
you would explain everything gently. you'd reassure him that if he wasn't comfortable with being with you because of it, then you'd have no resentment towards him
there were plenty of good reasons to be wary after all
then one night you had a particularly long escapade
trying to uncover a deeply-rooted crime circle, you'd ended up rescuing a group of young people who had gotten in trouble with enforcers for frankly ridiculous reasons
you'd then had to outsmart and deal with said enforcers (who were undoubtedly the worst part) to escape, and they head nothing back in their chase
you'd decided to head to the lab instead of home for safety, as at least that wasn't as incriminating. also there was more spaces to hide
it was so late that it was morning, and even you expected that Viktor had gone home by now
but he had, in fact, not
so you'd entered the lab by climbing through the Jana-knows-what storey window, blood rushing with adrenaline, levering yourself down to the floor cleanly with a web
right beside Viktor's desk, where he was sat, eyes wide and frozen
it hurt to see his expression focused on you. he was hiding it well but there was fear in how he swallowed, in how he clenched his fist on the handle of his cane
it hurt until you remembered that 1. he did not know it was you, and 2. he had just witnessed you crawling on glass, spinning on webs and moving way too fast for a normal human
also 3. you bore a striking resemblance to the description given of a 'criminal' (as described by enforcers) that had recently been reported to be involved in the explosion of a factory in the Undercity
sure, you knew it had been for good: that you had apprehended your target, and there had been no casualties
but it dawned at you that Viktor remaining as calm as he did was inherently a miracle
"can I... help...? you...?"
his thoughts were rushing at 100mph compared to their normal 50, and you could see it in his searching stare, watching and waiting for you to move, speak, do anything
luckily, after a few seconds of stumbled words and a hasty removal of your mask, he was back down to earth, heaving a sigh and almost laughing in relief
"I cannot believe—I thought you were...!"
for a moment anyhow, before the reality sunk in further and you were bombarded with questions
"wait, you are the Spider? the masked vigilante?"
"where did you just come from? were you fighting someone?"
"are you alright? are you hurt? did anyone follow you?"
after some explanation and reassurance, he relaxes a lot
honestly he takes the news very well! despite the unplanned nature of its reveal
he's very pragmatic as a person and very loyal
despite the obvious exhaustion on his face, he perks up with intrigue as you tell him everything—how you got bitten, how you got hold of your current suit, how you chose your identity, what you've been keeping tabs on, who you've fought, what you've lost.
however, he is a scientist first and foremost after all, so even after the basics are out of the way, his curiosity is never going to be quite sated
so later on, he's asking more specifics
he's always very polite when requesting to see your abilities, very gentle and never overwhelming you. he wants to see all of them, if you'll allow him to
the webs, the wall-climbing, the increased agility and strength, the spider sense, no matter what it is, you always leave him amazed
and your abilities quickly become a source of inspiration for his own trajectories into science
he's particularly fascinated with the possibilities of your webs, regardless of whether they're organic or mechanical
he sees this as an opportunity to work with you and that makes him very happy indeed
on top of inspiring him scientifically, your passion for helping others reminds him what he's doing his work for, as well as how much he loves you
he adores your heart, your compassion, even if it worries him that you're putting yourself in harms way
this likely leads to him putting time aside for side projects, where he invents things to help you
he may be more of a pacifist, but he's surprisingly down with vigilante justice
he wants to help and protect people with his own technology, he'd be a hypocrite with his head in the sand if he believed that never fighting was truly an option
just as long as you're careful
because of this, he's not going to make you weapons. not that you would ever ask him to. that's not your style, and you'd much rather have the tools he creates to help you escape extra sticky situations
his main focus first and foremost is to help upgrade your suit, particularly providing more safety for your mask so you can breathe in the Undercity
however, whatever upgrade or mechanism it is as time goes on, he always lets you take the lead. you're the hero, not him, and he just wants to support you as best he can
for what it's worth, he'll talk positively of your secret identity to Jayce, hoping it'll get through to Mel
he would even defend you publicly if he was in the council room and the Spider came up
much to your chagrin, as you're worried for his safety just as much as he's worried about yours
when you move in together particularly, you're aware of the danger you're putting him in
you regularly frequent the Undercity and have dealings down there, so returning to live Topside by day has its innate dangers
especially when you're constantly avoiding villains and enforcers alike
but also your identity must stay a secret for his sake as well as yours
he'd be ruined if the fact that he's in a committed relationship with a a vigilante became known
unsurprisingly, Viktor overlooks this part
but as long as the two of you look out for each other, you're certain nothing can go wrong
overall Viktor is a caring and loyal partner, and this wouldn't change in the slightest if his S/O was a vigilante spider-person
he'd be incredibly supportive, though likely wouldn't be able to keep from getting a little excited over the capabilities of your powers. and from asking a ton of questions
you'd become a muse of sorts for him in some of his inventions, and a close partner in his technology in other ways
although, if you have access to the Spiderverse? poor man's going to start fizzing internally
the prospect of portals? already functioning across dimensions? universes?!
he's a reserved kind of person, but I don't think he'd be able to stop himself from trying to weasel his way into meeting someone who knew a lot about how it worked
aka, if you don't know how the Arachnoid Humanoid Poly-Multiverse's teleporting mechanics work, then he's going to try and talk to someone who does
with your permission of course
I think that Viktor would get along very well with Miguel...!
...until he very much doesn't.

Continue reading Untitled

Mel 🔆, Viktor 🌌, and Jayce 🔥 symbolism
SUN 🔆
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mel's association with the sun is self-evident and still mostly shrouded in mystery, though her love scene with Jayce is notable, which is overlaid with starry imagery, where her silhouette and her freckled face are compared to the cosmos. The sun is also a star. It's just the star that's closest to Runeterra and has the most influence over the world.
Tumblr media
Mel and the Hexcore are the POVs of the scene.
Tumblr media
Hexcore and starry imagery is more strongly and consistently associated with someone else, though!
STARS 🌟 / THE COSMOS 🌌
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Viktor's blue to purple pipeline is real
But seriously, the starry/swirly shapes point toward distant stars, the cosmos, a galaxy. There is no moon in Viktor's night scenes throughout the season, only stars.
Viktor's character regresses as the season goes on (blue to purple, ready to fall into Shimmer-like magenta as his corruption nears its peak).
Tumblr media
His hubris opens him up to some kind of corruption by the Hexcore, or by whatever - or whoever - is using the Hexcore as a gateway, like what Jinx points out. Singed as his mentor plants and encourages the lie that Viktor believes, that he's better off alone and that the ends justify the means.
These perfectly ruinous circumstances lead to him getting Sky killed (Sky like sky blue, like Inspiration, lost as Viktor has lost sight of good in his pursuit of great).
Tumblr media
In his running scene, Viktor runs not from left to right, filmspeak for progression - he runs from right to left, as though backstepping.
(And also for the Rocky Balboa reference called out in this brilliant post, but hey, I think it all works)
It's also worth laying the foundation that Viktor is a fantasy interpretation of Nikola Tesla, the Serbian-American inventor who was fascinated with electricity, radio signals, the cosmos, and [REDACTED for another post probably lol]
If you've fallen down the rabbit hole of League lore like I have, you might have picked up that peoples and warriors who are sun-worshipers are (at least anciently) tasked with hunting down and destroying Void beings, who are eldritch beings associated with the distant stars, or are Runeterrans constructed by the Void Watchers trapped between realms. The sun fights against interlopers from other dimensions or celestial bodies.
Mel and Viktor have the same ideas about risk and the nature of progress, and they are both technically foreigners living in Piltover and pursuing that progress - in two very different (but complementary) ways. They are most likely the two characters whose literal bodies are celestial, imbued with the Arcane. Their bodies are most likely augmented with magical metals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yet the arcane imagery that seems to accompany them respectively are diametrically opposed - Sun vs. Void, possibly. (Also, purple and yellow/gold are opposite or complement colors on the color wheel.)
Whether they wind up working together or whether they clash (as Viktor loses himself) or if it's a mix of both, I think Mel and Viktor are destined to collide in season 2.
So where does this leave Jayce?
FIRE 🔥
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fire for Jayce means more than one thing. The first thing that should come to mind is the fire of the forge. Creation and industry. The legacy and hard work of his family.
However, his FIRST imagery with fire occurs when Elora says "Speak of the devil" and Jayce is framed in flames at Mel's fundraising party.
Tumblr media
He's similarly framed in the flames of a Molotov cocktail on the bridge between Piltover and the undercity with Viktor, after he's just called the people of the undercity dangerous.
Tumblr media
What I think we're being shown here are Jayce's choices. He can use his talents and influence for good - creation and industry - or he can use them for destruction and oppression. A hammer can create.
A hammer can also be a weapon, a tool of destruction:
Tumblr media
Fire can quickly burn and spread out of control.
Tumblr media
Hey look, blue all the way to magenta in one scene!
And if you know his original League lore, the reason why his rivalry with [REDACTED] crosses the point of no return - fire and destruction. Yeah.
Jayce is interesting because his point position in the Mel-Viktor-Jayce trifecta makes it tempting to assign celestial imagery to him, too. However, adult Jayce is only present with Hexcore, star, and sun imagery when he is sharing a scene with Viktor or Mel respectively.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The show makes it a point that Mel and Viktor are the reasons he is the Man of Progress at all:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note that Jayce in the center of his Man of Progress posters is backed by a gear (Viktor) and the sun (Mel). If Viktor had not intervened in episode 2, Jayce would be dead or disenfranchised. If Mel had not intervened in episode 3, then Jayce AND Viktor would have been kicked out of the Academy if not imprisoned or exiled, and Hextech with Jayce and Viktor at the helm would not exist.
(This is reaching, but I like to interpret that the circle + notches in the gear shape are like Viktor's star symbolism, but even if that's the big reach that I think it is, Viktor is a machinist, engineer, and techmaturgist with Artificer parents - the gear definitely represents him on a meta level)
The imagery that I believe is Jayce's and Jayce's alone is that of fire. He is terrestrial, using magic contained within tools the way he has always wanted to bring Hextech to every household, while Mel and Viktor are influenced by magic on a whole other level.
Sure would be a shame if Jayce found a reason to choose the path of destruction and be corrupted further, diverging from Mel and Viktor's core values
Tumblr media
Sure would be a shame if Viktor's personal choices had consequences that radiated out further than season 1 and he gets put on a disastrous collision course with everything that Jayce and by extension Piltover hates and fears
Tumblr media
Sure would be stressful for us if Arcane decided to be a Greek tragedy about it
Though possibly the most important piece of this picture is how Mel - gold like the sun, gold that doesn't tarnish or rust, gold that is an excellent conductor - has already faced the abyss and said NO to her own corruption:
Tumblr media
It sure would be something for her to have to watch Jayce and Viktor go down a different path, huh

GO GET HIM!!
Another part of the Runeterra K'sante/Yone hc verse stuff....I suppose I will have to continue to give them something to be happy for idk
Yone design ref for this verse can be seen in detail here
To see the other previous parts go here (Part 1) - (Part 2) - (Part 3)
The process of acting like a human again was arduous. Before, the azakana had sustained him, made him forgo the usual human necessities like sleeping, eating, taking care of himself between fighting....and more. Not unlike how a child has to learn the ways of the world.
Of course, his body was still not completely...normal. Having a spiritual parasite did leave his mark, as he found out that he still could unbind his soul from his body (initially this was all random and involuntary, but later he found out how to channel it by will). His left eye, while ruined and blind to the material world, could still see things from the spirit realm.
It was also nice that K'sante stayed around to just keep an eye on him, making sure he rested and ate. Keeping him company through bouts of nightmares and emotional outbursts he had after suppressing them for so long to starve off the azakana residing in the old mask.
Disorienting and traumatic as this all was, Yone was grateful for the second chance at life. It also didn't hurt that his friend (or was it more...a companion?....travel partner? He was too afraid to mull over this for long) had stayed with him to help. He felt guilty for feeling this selfish, but he allowed himself to have that.
Of course, even the good things had to end. K'sante had visited all the places he wanted to go, learned a great deal of things, and his home needed him. When K'sante announced that he would leave for the Navori harbor in a week, Yone's world seemed to shatter with the news. Yes, he had known K'sante would eventually go back, but it seemed to be something that would happen far later...not this soon.
K'sante does notice Yone looking down, and ever considerate, he gives him an offer.
"You know, if you want to...you can come with me."
Yone mulls over this, looking at the masks that he had collected over the years as an azakana hunter, including the one that used to curse his face. There was still so many azakana left in the world, and Yone did vow to rid Ionia of them...
...but was this something he had to do? After dedicating his "un-life" to that cause and then getting his humanity back, Yone was not sure. And leaving home.... felt daunting.
"I... don't know."
K'sante is disappointed by the answer, but smiles in understanding. The two spend time together before the departure date, traveling back to Navori to meet Sett and other friends K'sante had made there. K'sante introduces Yone to them, and Yone does find himself enjoying their company (in small doses).
On the day of the departure, Yone does come over to bid K'sante farewell. As K'sante boards the ship headed southward to Bel'zhun...he suddenly is stopped by a voice.
"Wait."
K'sante feels someone tug at his sleeve, and already knows who it is. Smiling, he turns around to see Yone awkwardly trying to avoid looking at K'sante while tightly gripping onto his coat.
".............Before, I hunted through a storm of darkness, but now....will you let me follow you like a wayward gale?"
K'sante is initially confused by Yone's words, but then laughs after he realizes what he is saying. He brings Yone to a tight hug, surprising the other man with the sudden act.
"You can be the deadliest desert storm, and I would happily accept you. Of course!"
For the first time in his life, Yone feels...free. Was this how his brother felt when he forgave him? He too had left Ionia afterwards.
Now, it was his turn to fly.
TO BE CONTINUED...

I recently bought the Realms of Runeterra companion book for League of Legends and while it’s outdated as far as lore goes, I hope the Arcane artbook has some segments that act similarly to it.
Realms of Runeterra is written and laid out like a lore summary and explanation for each region featured in League, paired with little pictures of citzens from each region (champions aren’t often depicted)…It has almost an illustrated history book vibe.
I don’t think the Arcane artbook is going to be as immersive—it’s probably going to be more technical explanation than a dump for extra story details but I’d love to see little scrapped snippets of story like we saw in that online choose your own adventure thing that Riot did for the release—maybe more random character thoughts and stuff idk im desperate for officially released content man

To be fair the entire concept of Nilah as a half-lobotomized force of nature cruising through Runeterra to fight absolutely everything and everyone above a certain power level is pretty insane to begin with.
What makes this even funnier is that the smarter monsters she challenges realize that with carrying Ashlesh within her soul she's also a walking spirit-realm nuke. A weapon of mass destruction knocks at your door at 3 AM and is like "1vs1 me bitch" - and either you lose, or... it will be a really short lived win.

Ashlesh analysis
Since im the only person in the face of this world that is deranged enough about Nilah to go beyond the mortal realm seeking for answers, i felt i had the responsibility to write this post with as much info as i could
frequently i feel like people dont know how to address or read ashlesh since 1) he's subortinated to nilah (as if he was an accessory, and not an entirely different entity, but i understand why this overlap happens) and 2) it's not like we have a lot of info on him to begin with
or that's i think people like to believe; i mean, yes he has less lore that directly mentions him than fiddlesticks, but i believe that with a bit of reading we can infer a lot from ashlesh, and that's why im here writing this post
Tumblr media
1. DUALITY
first i would like to point out something interesting that (so far) just happened with ashlesh: the fact that he has two different titles
for me, it speaks about ashlesh complexity as a character - he resonates in duality, joy under his influence can mean multiple things, his waters cut deep but they also veil against harm, he gives power but takes the soul
i feel like (at some point) ashlesh was closer to humanity (meaning that he helped humans thrive at the same time he fed on them, yk like cattle) than to his siblings - The Ten Kings - and that's why he was granted two titles, he seems to go beyond the "just consume" that we see from fiddle, yes he fed on humans but he understand how to do this
the devil is smarter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this of course is a past that we'll probably never know about ashlesh; if it was once written, the river of fate has likely washed it away long ago
2. AMBITIONS
despite mysterious, ashlesh seems to have a clear and audacious goal: fight the heavens
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's transparent like water that ashlesh harbours resentment towards the celestial realm above and it has a good reason: it was the celestials that trapped him
here's the story
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those who dont know, the new fiddlesticks and zoe got a small connection in lore - in one of the old splasharts, fiddle carries a key, but upon receiving his rework, it was not there anymore
so people started noticing that the key that once belonged to fiddle was now in the hands of a mischievous little (and too powerful) girl
(this lore event is also present in fiddle's biography)
Tumblr media
but after all, what this key was for?
Carnivalnites (or Jared Rosen), the main writer behind fiddle rework, rell, viego and nilah, answered it in an old tweet (now deleted) what the key was for
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
note 1: "beautiful and terrible in its joy", the duality concept strikes again
note 2: by the way it's put and by the way jared talks about the "something else" (that we now know it's ashlesh), it seems that at early stages the demon of joy was meant to be a lesser demon that was under fiddle sphere of influence (this concept is confirmed by the demonology annotation image from noxus that came out with fiddle rework) but with nilah release they have since moved from this concept cause now ashlesh is one of the ten kings alongside fiddlesticks
Tumblr media
with all this information we can confirm that ashlesh is deeply tied with targon, or more specific to the celestial realm beyond
celestial beings trapped ashlesh for some unknown reason, possibly the demon was posing some kind of direct threat to them so he had to be locked
...
Tumblr media
my personal theory is that ashlesh got kicked from the celestial realm, tried to build up his own "kingdom" below on runeterra, but also got denied this option and the celestials locked him away as a final punishment
"She read of the mad king Viego and his tragic fall, the genesis of the first dragons, and the foundation of the universe in the Kathkan tradition."
how is this possible? cause ashlesh himself is a star that once resided on the celestial realm and upon coming to the world below, he turned into the demon we know
Ashlesha (or Āśleṣā) is the 9th nakshatra (constellation) of the Hindu astrology; it's symbol is the sea serpent and its element is water. The head of the snake (in Hydra constellation) corresponds to the star Āshleshā.
interestingly, fiddlesticks bio also mentions this strange and otherworldly nature
An evil gone from the world for numberless centuries—long enough that the warnings of a nascent humanity passed into rumor, then myth, then legend… until all that remained were simple fables. An entity so utterly alien that it defies almost all contemporary knowledge of magic.
note 3: about the "turning into a demon" part, fiddle's bio is full of "it got turned into" imageries, of men and animals transforming with demonic power, so i dare say that is not impossible for ashlesh turning into a demon;
last, but not least, to make this even joyful (and funnier) i present you all the Star Guardian Version of the story (Jared worked on Another Sky novel for SG 2022 event too, so the thematics overlap)
ashlesh the STAR of joy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
remember how fiddlesticks and zoe were (also) related in Another Sky? yup yup
Tumblr media
(i feel somehow that zoe also was the key to free ashlesh in this AU too)
with these i finish my thoughts, thank you for those who read it !

thank u to the person on reddit who decided to say hi and tell me this exists lol. i read the wiki and yall are never going to hear the end of this. the potenial is unreal. the themes the colour scheme the everything. i can die happy now
Separate, but never parted, Kindred represents the twin essences of death.
DEATH DIETY LETS GO! a (prey and predator) duo no less ;)
Lamb's bow offers a swift release from the mortal realm for those who accept their fate. Wolf hunts down those who run from their end, delivering violent finality within his crushing jaws.
ARCHERY BADASSERY? HELL YEAH!!! GRAPHIC DEATH SCENES AND BONE CRONCHING??? SIGN ME TF UP!!!
Though interpretations of Kindred's nature vary across Runeterra, every mortal must choose the true face of their death.
AMBIGUOUS INTERPRETATIONS WHOOP WHOOP
As a spirit who is closer to a force of nature than a living being, it is difficult to tell how Kindred came to be who they are today.
THE DRAMA. THE MYSTERY. theyre just like me fr fr :')
However, one of the many legends surrounding the origins of the Kindred tell of 'a pale man with dark hair' (Runeterra's own Grim Reaper)
ah shit.
who was 'very lonely' and so split himself 'right down the middle' so he 'would always have a friend'.
AND WERE BACK!

10 Characters / 10 Fandoms / 10 Tags
pick 10 characters from 10 fandoms and tag 10 people. thank you for tagging me @ithinkthiswasabadidea :)
apparently you don't have to comment on them. HOWEVER, i love talking about my interests, and you've given me an excuse to do it, so let's go!
(not in any particular order, i love them all.)
constantin d'orsay (greedfall) baby boy. has done nothing wrong ever in his entire life. seeing him activates my knight instinct. i would fight lord and lady d'orsay for him. i would fight the high king guy for him. i would fight god for him. if he is wrong i would reshape reality to make him right. all of this to say, i love him a normal amount.
viego (league of legends / ruination / runeterra) if i had a nickel for every time a character i love was born a second son of a ruler and so was never intended to lead, yet became an heir after his brother's death, was supposed to die because of poison, had only one person he cared about deeply, in something between eternal love and obsession caused immense destruction for the sake of that person (who has never asked for any of this), had some sort of transformation during which his hair turned from fair/blond to platinum, his eye color changed, and there appeared some weird magic-related thing on his head symbolizing his becoming a villain (or, rather, making it clear that he was wrong all along), then i'd have two nickels. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. ok, now for a more normal explanation. bringing your kingdom & then entire realm to ruin for your wife? in grief, in hopeless attempt to revive her? i love this! i love it when love turns people evil.
camilla hect (the locked tomb) i don't have coherent thoughts about her. i simply adore her with my whole heart. here's to camilla hect, yet another of devotion's casualties!!!
gale dekarios aka gale of waterdeep (baldur's gate 3) i will kill mystra.
gabrielle de lioncourt (the vampire chronicles) there is much to analyze about her background and her relationships, esp with lestat, and i am most definitely unfit for this. let me just say that if i were a vampire, i would also ditch humanity and explore some jungle instead. and probably wear men's clothes.
millions knives (trigun) unhinged codependent siblings… <3
fang runin (the poppy war) my darling girl who fell in love with the war, and nobody told her it ended. i think she should get to burn the world down, as a treat.
breezepelt (warrior cats) i am including him because he is my og blorbo. 10-year old me really looked at the worst guy ever and said yeah that's the one. my love for writing about dysfunctional families and defying religion could probably be traced back to him.
constance blackwood (we have always lived in the castle) i NEED to teleport into the world of this book and ask constance her perspective. because she knew it, i mean, she knew what must have actually happened the whole time. i wonder what she felt after the accident, and if/how her view changed since then. i wonder what she thought of her parents, and of merricat, and of the life they came to lead. we get some of it from the dialogue and interactions ofc, but it doesn't stop me from contemplating all of this.
august (the wicker king) guard dog of a boy. 'I like following him. Following orders. Doing whatever he wants.' 'I’m always going to want to be at your heels, fighting for you. Hurting myself because you tell me to.' i hope belonging to someone else brings him peace.
anyways, i had to open the book to find these quotes, and now i want to reread it all over again. let me just tag some mutuals and then i'm gonna go read.
(no pressure!) (also you don't have to elaborate on them) @kuramirocket @grin-unsettling @boygirltwins @fairylightfairlybright @drizzit @msnormandy @darkvisionvamp @gardenbastard @cjflint @pups-2-dust & anyone else who wants to :)

League of Legends should make a Skyrim type game where you play as the Kindred and can swap between Wolf and Lamb as you explore Runeterra and the Spirit Realm and as you go around the map reaping souls you learn about the world and its inhabitants through the lens of their last moments.
Narratively kind of similar to how The Book Thief is told from the perspective of Death as a narrator.
Gameplay-wise you can play as Lamb and be a Stealth Archer or be the supporting fire as you send Wolf to engage, or be Wolf and be a Berserker type fighter who rips out enemies throats and protects Lamb from retaliation. And you can swap between these freely and smoothly, adapting your gameplay to whatever you desire in the moment and what tactic you need to use.
Learn more about the Mask Mother, stave off the Etherfiend, explore battlefields and homesteads as you see all the different ways people are affected by the prospect of death

Do you have a muse page for Noelle?I wanna know more about her backstory :3
// I have a little about her in my 'about' page, but it skimps on some of the backstory, I admit.
However, I'm happy to answer this for you. Wall of text below the cut.
Noelle was a character from a tabletop game I played called Invisible Sun. After the campaign I wanted to keep playing her, so moved her to tumblr when I started.
As for in-universe. Noelle was a mage studying at the Vancian Academy in her home realm's city of Saturyne. Almost everyone is a mage there, and magic is as commonplace as air. There was also a cataclysmic war that happened in the setting that she fled from...and returned after she remembered how.
Despite the magic in her setting, Noelle is a comparatively weak mage, having limited mana reserves and struggles to cast powerful spells. If she does want to cast more powerful magic, she usually has to carefully prepare a ritual for it, and likely set aside a few days to make it happen.
Currently, Noelle makes no sound. Through a quirk of the setting, nothing she touches makes noise, and this carries over to things she interacts with. For example, if she were to drop a fork, it would still fall silently, since she interacted with it last. This also made her mute.
However, she also has an ability which is somewhat less common in her realm: Runespeech. It's more of an oddity than a real power, but it allows her to create cloudy runes in the air when she speaks. After some practice, she learned how to channel magic through them, as well as use them to be her own subtitles (which is what she usually used them for).
She doesn't remember having sound, but she does remember that she used to play instruments. She didn't try to play after her return from the war's aftermath, so she believes her memories were tampered with, and that her sound was taken from her.
Her current suspect is an angel she made a pact with. They borrowed her body for a holy mission that she was too naive to ask for more details about. A month later, she regained control. After this moment, she never tried to play music, knowing it would be useless. This is the reason she suspects them.
When she was younger, she was teased for her silence at the academy, called a mime and such. Frustrated by the teasing, she decided to spite her peers by adopting the idea as her thesis project; something usually designed to be flashy and a demonstration of power.
Not being powerful herself, she had to make it unique and pragmatic. So while her overall magical power is low, her specialization is creating unseen walls and blocks. Normally it would be extraordinarily difficult for her to cast such a spell, but because she designed it as her thesis, it's easier for her.
After this, she became a student teacher, and after she advanced in rank, she became a regular teacher...but only of the fundamentals. She wasn't strong enough to be able to instruct the higher levels of magic. Still, it was enough to retire to the academic life after the group's adventures were done.
However, she began to feel listless, and one day happened upon a curio shop (@curiosofthechasm ). There, she was enchanted by the wares on display and ended up purchasing a voice. It didn't give her sound, like she'd hoped, but the voice did allow her verbal speech without needing her subtitles. In gratitude, she became a regular customer.
Crossing the store's threshold was the second time she'd crossed into a different reality or realm. The first was her escape from the war. And it was enough for her to recognize what happened. After some jobs from the proprietress of the curio shop, she learned how to tap into that ability. Most mages would brute force their way into other realms. Noelle, with her weaker mana tends to...fall through the cracks between them, instead.
This brought her to Runeterra and dozens of other realms. She's gotten herself an apartment away from her home realm, but she found that mark and recall spells work across dimensions for her. Getting TO new places is difficult, often leaving her disoriented and drained. But getting back is generally easier. This includes return trips. It's still a difficult spell for her, so she can't blink between realms rapidly.
From there, she's made new friends and explored new lands. She still works for the curio shop, but has been called upon less for work, so she tries to do other odd jobs. Delivery, Alchemy, babysitting, barista, etc.
Reinvigorated by these new experiences, she became determined to find a solution to her missing sound (which she usually refers to as a 'curse' for convenience's sake). Her experiments and efforts have been a big driving force for her main story stuff.
Which brings us to the current day.
Feel free to ask me about specifics. My ask box is always open.

League of Legends Verse
The House Rosfield was a minor house along the eastern edge of Ionia, though its lineage was a long one. No great stories or legends, but an old blood that ran long. The Rosfield lands were quiet, tranquil places, with the occasional monster that needed attention being the only issues that arose. That is, until the Noxian forces landed on their shores, and quickly overran the House and its warriors. The slaughter was quick, and despite the resistance that was put up, it ultimately ended in failure.
The causalities were high, Clive's father and brother cut down amidst the fighting, his mother gone to gods knew where. Clive himself brought low, but not ended, was detained by Noxian soldiers, and sent off to slave away for whatever ends the Noxian's had in mind. With his magical abilities, Clive often fought as a Gladiator for entertainment, earning scars and jeers aplenty as he struggled for his life, nursing that growing hatred for those who kept him in chains.
It wasn't until five years later that Swain took control of Noxus, instituting the Trifarix of Noxus instead of whatever the Grand General Darkwill had been doing during his tenure. Clive hadn't been afforded the luxury of learning the nation he was forced to labor for, and when the upheaval of change finally hit, he took his chance, and escaped. Stealing aboard a boat, he was caught mid-voyage and given a chance to explain himself rather than just be tossed into the sea. It was beyond obvious he was a runaway slave, and perhaps the Captain thought it might be more profitable to return him to Noxus rather than see him dead.
Perhaps Clive's story moved the Captain, or perhaps he simply wasn't a fan of the slave trade that Noxus had indulged in, and Swain had kneecapped to some extent. But either way, Clive was given passage to Ionia in exchange for working while the voyage was underway. Cleaning, cooking, fighting should it come to it. Whatever was needed of Clive, he gladly did. And never had he felt such relief as when his feet touched the shores of his homeland.
He didn't know what he would find venturing back to his home, but he knew he needed to go. The burnt out ruins almost entirely overgrown were not a surprise to him, in fact it was almost a balm to see that the land had healed from the invasion that had scarred it so. The surprise was when a Direwolf leaped from the ruin and collided with him, showering him with affection. It took a moment before Clive realized that this was his faithful hound, Torgal! He had survived the invasion, and had continued to protect the shell of the home they had shared, as if knowing Clive would one day return.
The shell of a home had some few untouched places, somehow ignored by looters and overgrowth, leading Clive to find armor and a blade that had belonged to his father. Along with a minor pittance of coin, he was able to say he was no longer entirely destitute. With Torgal at his side, and blade in hand, he looked once more over the ruins of his family home, before turning back to head to the nearest port, intending to make his way to the mainland. What he intended to do, he wasn't quite sure. But Noxus would pay for what it had done!
ooc remarks under the cut;
So, this is just a very very rough layout of Clive's League of Legends verse. I'm sure there's probably a few things wrong here or there, but it's just meant to be a foothold in the realm of Runeterra so I can facilitate roleplays in the verse. If anyone wants to offer corrections/suggestions, I'm not opposed to hearing them!
I was trying to make it sort of mirror the XVI verse to an extent, so not much would be terribly different across the two, but I'm not sure how well that translated. It's not entirely fleshed out either, like with the names of Clive's captors not being mentioned, so I'm definitely open to changing it should roleplays provide a better idea of how the world would work with Clive in it! But for now, this is what I've got.
