I love ARMS but also that game has so little replayability. It’s mechanics are very very solid but every character feels very very samey to play very quickly and the game gets really boring if you play it too much it all just kind of feels the same
#that’s why i wish this game had done better and gotten a sequel because that game would benefit so much for having more stuff built on top#of how good it feels to play!! also because that games aesthetic and world rules I would have loved to see more of it#it’s crazy because apparently it sold really well?? which is super weird compared to like. how little impact it actually made#i never see anyone talk about this game or see fanart or anything which is crazy because this games character design is so fucking good!!!#im still kind of hoping to see an arms 2 on the switch successor because it’s a very fun motion controls demo but idk im not hopeful nobody#really seemed to care about that game at all. idk if nintendo would see any audience for a sequel#this games music and character design are so so good I would have loved to see more

do you mean twilight princess, in which she held a sword exactly once in a flashback and pretty much immediately dropped it in surrender? or wind waker, where she forgets how to use a sword the second she turns into princess zelda until literally the final battle 🤔? and i genuinely can't think of whatever other time you're referring to that she apparently uses a sword. spirit tracks? ok i'll give you that one, i guess, because phantom zelda is pretty badass, but other than that.........??
"ummm actually it's a good thing that zelda plays differently from link, because link has the triforce of courage so of course he fights and uses swords! meanwhile zelda has the triforce of wisdom, so obviously she's going to find more clever ways to solve her problems teehee ;)" hey did you guys know you can still be excited for the game while also acknowledging it's pretty fucking shitty of nintendo to act like zelda is incapable of picking up a sword in a mainline game.
#i'm sorry if this response seems condescending or rude but this is just a very flimsy argument.#like....you know what i meant. nintendo acts like she's incapable of fighting outside a very scant few circumstances & use the#“well she wouldn't solve her problems like that” or “but if she's the main character what would link be doing haha” as an excuse.#also before anybody tries to use it as a gotcha yes i know she does get to use the bow of light in a few games as well#(in all 3 games mentioned funnily enough). which is cool! i think the bow of light is awesome and an iconic weapon of hers#(and yes i think of it as *her* weapon. which is why i'm so fond of the idea of a bow and arrow being her main weapon of choice in the same#way a sword is link's). but those times are few and far between and it's always only to play a supporting role to link.#which obviously works from a gameplay standpoint since in those cases we're playing as link and thus would literally have nothing to do if#she DID do all the fighting. but the fact she still doesn't get to fight in a game she's literally headlining????#idk it's just not a great look to me. combat has ALWAYS been a very core part of the loz series from the very beginning & on one hand yeah#think it's cool they're trying to branch out & experiment with different gameplay styles. but idk it just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth#(especially because i can already tell the whole ~just throw shit at enemies~ thing is going to get very annoying very fast for me lmao)#...HOWEVER. i do also acknowledge that overall we actually know very little about the game so far. only what we saw in the reveal trailer.#so obviously i'll withhold final judgement until i play for myself. i'm just a little wary is all.#honestly i guess what i really take issue with is the loz fans acting like the decision to focus less on combat is somehow more#“in-character.” as if every iteration of zelda doesn't have her own distinct personality anyway? it would literally be so easy for them to#write a zelda who's eager to fight (even if only because it's to save link) while still keeping close to her core characteristic traits.#like. come on.#sigh. but anyway. sorry for the rant but it's just so upsetting that so many loz fans#(and this isn't aimed at the person in the screenshot. just in general) seem perfectly ok with the perpetual mistreatment of zelda#especially when they use the same tired arguments to justify it. i'm so over it but i'm also not going to discuss it further#as this literally took me 6 hours to write and i'm sick to death of having to think about this because honestly all of my thoughts#are far more nuanced than i care to convey in the tags of a tumblr post anyway.#...actually i'm kind of tempted to write a whole essay about this now. if nothing else it might help me sort out my thoughts a bit better.#lmk if any of you (assuming anybody's even made it this far lmfao) would be interested in seeing that ?#but yeah ok seriously i'll stop talking ...for now 😈#replies#send tweet

now that I've been running this blog for nearly a year and it's starting to wind down, I think I can have little a self promotion as a treat
first, this blog will most likely start back up again if tumblr is still around whenever the next AC game comes out. what tournaments I run and how I run them will depend on what new stuff is added, but I at the very least want to do the new villagers, since the villager tournament was really the main thing of this blog
@isitinacnh was a blog I ran that compared the furniture catalogue from NL with NH to see how many items were cut or changed, but in the new year I think I'll repurpose it to show how items have evolved through all the games. don't expect to see new posts coming out of it for a good while though, because the most efficient way for me to make the posts would frontload it with all the interesting stuff, so I want to get a pretty big backlog started so I can shuffle the queue up before it starts posting. I have all the images downloaded to my computer already, I just need to post them
@villagerdetails gave in depth looks at all the villager models and expressions, mostly for the purpose of art refs. again if tumblr is still here when the next AC game comes out, I'll start this back up with the new villagers if I am able to. there is a good chance this might need to wait for like new amiibos to get released or something idk we'll see
@angiestown and @angiestownart are my main and art blogs respectively. angiestownart is just my art, usually with some extra commentary that I didn't want attached to the main post. angiestown is a personal blog, but I post all my art and a lot of the cakes I decorate at work and other dessert things I make. I'm also hoping to maybe next year on my main blog design and post screenshots of every single house in happy home paradise, just like I did with happy home designer in 2019. seems like a good time to do it since nintendo appears to be winding down the switch and I doubt any games I care about will come out for a good while
also if you guys wanted to reblog this post specifically that would be very niceys sorry it is long lmao

If the Pokemon lawsuit situation is so dire, is there anything we can do to stop it?
Based on my understanding of how copyright lawsuits work there really isn't.
Even bigger voices in the industry speaking out about these excessive patents and making Nintendo look bad probably won't change their mind. The last time they did this they gained a lot of negative press and even that didn't make a dent in their sales or move them to change their practices. Also it seems like it genuinely doesn't matter how much Game Freak shits the bed on Pokemon games, people are still going to throw buckets of money at them. I do believe their recent switch to taking 3 years between major releases might be because Nintendo really does care about their brand integrity and Game Freak putting out such broken games with Nintendo's name attached was making them look bad, so they forced them to clean up their act, but Scarlet and Violet still made a bunch of money and Pokemon continues to be one of the most profitable IPs in the world. I don't think boycotting Nintendo is really going to do anything and complaining likely will be ignored because they already don't openly respond to public criticism and they also have more money than god and will use it as they see fit.
I genuinely wish Nintendo had gone in on brand integrity because again, I don't think what PocketPair is doing is okay, and they do seem to care a lot about how they present themselves so going after a game that was getting insanely popular and looked so similar AND wasn't family friendly makes sense. Genuinely if their argument was just "this game's creatures and design look so much like ours it's possible for the two to be mistaken and having that confusion weakens our brand identity and has the potential to make consumers look at us badly for the guns and violence thing which is directly contrary to what we do" I would be like, yeah, fair, they have a case and PocketPair was cribbing Pokemon's style so ofc this would happen. That's a case that has happened before with other brands and probably will happen again and I don't think anyone can really argue "having a game that looks nearly identical at times to our *children's* game but with guns is confusing consumers and devaluing our place in the eyes of said consumers" isn't a solid complaint.
But going after them for patents on like BASIC GAME DESIGN CONCEPTS that thousands of games have used is unbelievably scummy and I can only assume it's because they didn't want to risk losing. Idk what other reasoning there could be behind this choice, and it extra sucks because this proves Nintendo is holding the games industry hostage and judt promising not to pull the trigger...unless they feel like it for whatever reason, and that's not okay.
Tbh I would love to be able to say that Nintendo will go back to leaving everyone else alone after this...but they did win a lawsuit against another MAJOR game studio for "stealing their patented mechanics" and iirc that game had next to nothing in common with Pokemon or any Nintendo game visually or thematically so....? No one is safe. I don't even know if other studios on their level could fight it. Nintendo can come after anyone for really basic shit, so all you have to do to bring the hammer down on you is piss them off.
And to be completely fair!! I do think unambiguously PocketPair did piss them off!! No one with a brain can look at Palworld and deny that they were flagrantly dancing the line between influence and infringement and seemed to be there on purpose, and I have to assume the only reason they didn't bother to try harder to differentiate their game was because they both wanted to ride Pokemon's coattails and didn't think they'd be successful enough for Nintendo to notice them...but they blew up and the rest is history.
(And I mean this is entirely speculation based on the fact that the CEO is apparently not against AI and has dabbled in it before AND given how they seem to have stolen Dead Cells' gameplay and Hollow Knight's style and smahed them into one game that is WILDLY different from Palworld but looks nearly identical to Hollow Knight...I think they might have some different opinions about what counts as copying and what doesn't, and are also maybe not super interested in making new games based on ideas their devs have and just want to crib whatever is popular to make money. But again, just speculation based on what I've seen.)
Sadly if Nintendo does have those patents they can do literally whatever they want and we can't stop them. The best anyone who's upset can do is just speak out about how this is fucked up and I guess boycott Nintendo? But I'm not optimistic either will ammount to anything and I myself am not taking PocketPair's side or willing to give them any money because they clearly did fuck up and are willing to continue to shamelessly copy devs and studios with way less money and resources like Team Cherry and that's not and will never be okay.
I don't think there's a good answer here. Palworld might be able to pay whatever Nintendo wants if they lose just because they have been so successful, but idk what Nintendo will demand. I think the best outcome out of all the shitty options would be PocketPair having enough money to stay open while paying Nintendo but still get scared away from copying and reconsider their model and switch to actually making original games, even if they are inspired by other ones(because Palworld would NOT be making this kind of money if it were a bad game, the studio CAN make good games and I fell really bad for the Palworld fans they deserve better than this and there is a world where Palworld was artistically unique AND good and we should be in that world), but idk they might just switch to targeting devs that can't fight them. And them losing in any way, remaining open or not, sadly just reminds the entire gaming industry that they're at the whims of a money focused mega-company that is more than willing to shut down ANYONE they want for whatever reason if they decide to.
It's a shitty situation, and sadly I don't think it's one we can do anything about as individual consumers :/ not that I would really know what would be the good thing to do anyway since I think both companies are in the wrong, so I'm not comfortable defending either beyond offering my subjective take on what they're each doing.
The real way forward is vocally and financially supporting indie devs that are doing their own thing, helping raise awareness and support for game development unions and the current striking unionized voice actors in the video game sphere, pushing back against AI, and if you feel so inclined to boycott games from studios and companies you feel are doing shady harmful shit. That's the way forward, this lawsuit itself is sadly out of our hands.

Special Skills/Talents: very good at math, can do long equations in her head without a calculator. can pick up most things pretty easily though she usually gets too distracted to keep up things for too long so she always had a bunch of unfinished projects or hobbies she gave up on
BECOMING A WARD
mickey, born in montreal, was raised by a single mother and never knew her dad. the only thing she knew about him was that he was american because she has dual citizenship. however, when she was seven years old, her mom passed of sudden heart attack. mickey was too young to really understand what happened but her life drastically changed. at first, cps tried to take her to her father in chicago, but he denied even knowing he had a kid and she was placed into foster care. she spent four years in foster care, some good homes and some bad but it never quite broke her spirit and generally positive outlook on the world. she caught richard's attention when he was visiting her school on a business trip and was intrigued by how bright she was and despite her teachers warning of how her hyperactivity makes it heard to teach her, richard decided to bring her to woodrow and give her the tools she needed to flourish.
LIFE AS A WARD
mickey was always seen as the naive ward, too trusting and gullible. she always seemed much younger than she really is and hates that people think she's the youngest even though she is quite young. she sees the others as her family but after much teasing from the other wards, she tries to keep those feelings to herself, she always wants the others to like her and make everyone happy. at first, she had trouble bonding with the other wards because english was not her first language, speaking mostly québécois french when she first came to the states but she quickly learned english and has since tried her best to connect with her fellow wards. there were many times she would get in trouble growing up because she's very easily influenced by the other wards, letting them drag her into their schemes and dumb ideas. if mickey wasn't a girl raised in the 80's and 90's she would probably be considered to have adhd and be autistic but since we didn't know as much about it back then, mickey was written off as being hyperactive and childish. she often visits woodrow even after moving away because it was the only place that has felt like home since she was a child. even though most of the wards are gone now, she still sees them all as a family. the last time she was home was just a few months before richard's passing.
AESTHETIC
mickey is never one to care about the latest fashion trend or what is in style, she prefers to be comfortable and wear things that make her feel good. she was always a tomboy growing up, would sometimes try to steal some of the boy wards' clothes until richard caught her and allowed her to shop in the boys' department of stores. she likes baggie clothes and will hide her body in layers. loves a good graphic tee over a long sleeve shirt. think of any classic 2000's teen heartthrob and put his wardrobe on a 5'5" girl. [pinterest inspo if you're curious] she's always preferred her hair on the shorter side, grateful that richard always allowed her to be herself and experiment with her looks. now it's cut past her chin and with swoopy bangs that she's always flicking out of her eyes. again, think of any 00's teen heartthrob with the classic vaguely scene boy hair cut
EDUCATION
mickey chose to go with the woodrow home schooling. she was never very good in a tradition school setting because her mind seemed to move faster than the teachers could teach which often got her into trouble for "acting out." so instead she liked that she could set her own pace with the teachers at woodrow and learn what she was interested in. after high school, she went on to go to richard's alma mater. she's always had a dream of going to space and working for nasa.
EXTRACURRICULARS
mickey loved extracurriculars growing up, she did science club and science fairs, was a mathlete, even tried model un for a year but realized she didn't like geo political sciences. though, outside of her academic hobbies. as a child, she played hockey but was never quite big enough for it to get back into it as a teenager. instead, she found she loves fencing, which may seem out of character but as a young hyperactive teen, richard encouraged her to try a physical hobby to get her energy out and liked the idea of being able to swing a sword around.
THEIR LIFE NOW
after graduating college, mickey accepted a job at DART areospace in montreal. she didn't plan on going back home after spending so many years in america and being two and a half hours away from woodrow, but when the opportunity came, she couldn't say no. currently, she lives in an apartment in the city with her long term girlfriend, jessica, and their cat. unbeknownst to the other wards, however, mickey and her gf have not been on the best terms. they met while in college and when mickey took the job, jessica moved with her but moving to a new country has caused a lot of tension between them. jessica thinks mickey works too long of hours and doesn't give her the attention she deserves because even when she's not at work, she's talking and thinking about work. mickey's not perfect, but she loves jessica. before receiving the letter about richard's death, they had the talk about how they want different things in life and mickey knows their relationship is pretty much over. going back to woodrow for the funeral, she's not sure what she'll be coming home to and is scared that it will be nothing

2023 Game of the Year Countdown #9 Pokemon Scarlet Nintendo Switch, 2023
I am slightly reluctant to rate this game as highly as I do, but I realized something important: that reluctance is firmly aimed at the executives that rushed this game to market, not those who worked hard to make the game what it is. So let me get to what succeeds and what fails about this game, and wow do I have a lot to say. Let’s start with the bad.
We all know how poorly this game runs. Animations of characters, Pokemon, and the environment beyond the area immediately surrounding you runs at single digit frames per second. It’s actually shocking to see something like this on a modern console, especially when nothing appears to be overloading the game from a graphics standpoint. I’ve seen claims that the game is constantly animating an entire globe of ocean, even when you’re nowhere near the water, nor able to see it, which would obviously slow down the game. But it also is baffling because what could possibly be the point of that? As someone who doesn’t really care about graphics or FPS, you really have to screw things up for me to take notice and have an issue with it. But it’s egregious and unavoidable. You’ll run into issues within the first 20 minutes of playing the game.
While it’s nice to finally have an open world in Pokemon, the cities and towns suffer massively from being literal facades. We don’t need to be able to go inside every single building, but there are almost zero buildings you can actually enter at all. Shops are just menus. Most buildings are just for looks. It makes the towns and cities feel empty and pointless, with little character or substance. Sure, some have interesting colors or designs, but there’s often just nothing to do in any of them. That’s not to say that the old games were the epitome of perfection; Viridian City has very little to do, for example. But, there’s something to be said for having a few houses with NPCs or something. Most NPCs just have generic lines or you can’t even talk to them at all.
Speaking of NPCs, the trainers spread throughout the land feel really weird. It’s like someone literally placed them at random. I stumbled upon some of them in the middle of nowhere. It would have been nice to see them clustered around natural formations or crossroads. There also aren’t very many of them. I found myself forgetting that other trainers even existed at times.
One very odd thing about Scarlet is that you can’t re-challenge the Elite Four once you’ve beaten them. This seems supremely odd, as you’ve always been able to challenge them again. Usually, they even have improved teams. There is no Battle Tower, either. Instead, you do get a fairly fun Academy Ace Tournament, but it feels lacking when you look at what else there could have been. It would have been nice to have something akin to Pokemon Stadium, with multiple Cups representing a sort of progression of skill. Another missed opportunity.
My last gripe is something I’ve been disappointed with for many years and multiple generations: battle gimmicks. First it was Mega Evolution, then Dynamaxing, and now Terastallization. Z Moves I was actually okay with because it felt like finally having a game version of when Ash tells Pikachu to like…do a backflip while using Iron Tail for extra damage or something. You can also only do it once per battle, so it felt quite a bit less impactful. The rest are all really dumb, in my opinion. They make the entire metagame focus on the new gimmick that won’t stick around and shifts focus from just the actual Pokemon and their moves and type advantages and Idk just…regular battling. I’ve been so annoyed with these gimmicks and constantly let down each and every time we get a new generation because they’re obsessed with this nonsense.
Ok, that’s about the end of my complaints. I got a bit ranty on that last one! I do enjoy quite a few things about this game, however.
As some know, I speak Spanish and lived in Spain for a short time while in college. It was a highlight of my life and my friends will never hear the end of stories that start with “when I was in Spain.” So to have a region based on Spain was something that hyped me up so much for this game.
I really appreciate the art direction and design of the region of Paldea. The eye-catching mosaics found throughout the region reflect things like Gaudi’s benches in Barcelona, and are bright in color. Buildings often share similar architecture to real buildings and cities in Spain, with the most prominent being the Sagrada Familia and the Pokemon Academy, but many others are also apparent, if not specifically, than in general style. I really loved walking the streets of the different towns because many reminded me of my time in Spain. Windmills are all over one mountain, designed to resemble those from Don Quijote, but also reminded me of a few clusters of modern windmills found on a chain of mountains on the highway near Burgos. It’s clear the designers did a lot of homework.
Beyond just the architecture, the geography of Paldea was also very reminiscent of Spain, especially the areas around Cortondo. I spent most of my leisure time in the game in and around this town. The olive groves, high sun overhead, the bounding Mareeps, and slowly floating Hoppips in the area are essentially my Pokemon heaven. Give me some queso manchego and a good tempranillo and I’d never leave.
It’s moments like these that remind me of the good parts of the game. The Hoppip that float leisurely by, and the fluffy little Mareep that get curious about you, coming close to inspect you and then lightly bouncing around you are just two examples of the sort of life that the animators and artists breathed into Paldea and I think it would be rude to ignore them. Pokemon has always been about the moments we create and the importance we derive from those moments. For some, it’s surviving with 1 HP in a key gym battle. For others, it’s catching a shiny with the last Poke Ball. For me, it has become just enjoying the scenery with my favorite Pokemon.
Character designs are also a high point, and one of the things Pokemon has consistently delivered on. We’ve had fantastic designs for a long time, even when the overall games themselves might be a bit lackluster. Caty, being a bug type gym leader, has hair that resembles spun silk. Levincia is as annoying as you’d expect from a high-energy streamer. I just like seeing so many unique characters in games, and they all stand out in their own ways. The Pokemon are also generally well designed this generation, something that I don’t often say. We finally get a dolphin Pokemon, and then they screw it up by making it a lame superhero, but that’s one of the few I actively dislike. Smoliv is great and I would die for Lechonk.
Area Zero is a really fun postgame adventure, although it’s a bit short. I like how the music adds a bit of wonder and mystery to it all, and the addition of tons of high level Pokemon reminds me a bit of Cerulean Cave from Kanto. I was also partial to the fact that the first group of Pokemon I encountered asked me for a Pepsi.
The sound design is another success of the game, with plenty of solid music throughout. I especially enjoyed Nemona’s themes and the Pokemon Ace Academy theme is quite possibly the greatest and most fitting battle tune in the history of Pokemon. I once called Marnie’s theme my favorite, but this might rival it. I can’t think of a better example of combining big battle pressure with big friendly competition. It has high energy, but also feels grand in scale without heaping pressure on you like other great battle tunes do. Can’t say I’m a big fan of Ed Sheeran, though.
Overall, I enjoyed my time with Scarlet, perhaps leaning a bit heavily on the Spanish inspiration and my own nostalgia to reach that conclusion. But, I also desperately wish that Pokemon would just slow it down. Release a game that works and feels complete, but that doesn’t burn your employees out. We typically see 6-7 years between Zelda titles, but Pokemon has been on a 2-3 year schedule for quite a while now.

please watch the new nintendo direct!! or at least skim through for the mario bits because theres a lot :0
YEAAAHHHHH I JUST SAW!
honestly most of that did not really appeal to me because i’m not a person who cares for remakes and the smrpg one specifically kinda looks like bdsp to me in a way that i didn’t love. i also don’t own sparks of hope in the first place and just never really buy dlc in general so even if i did idk if i’d be super excited. i’m super happy for everyone who is excited about this though :-] it’s probably gonna be nice to have portable smrpg + a version that isn’t super clunky to play like it is on wiiu LOL even if i’m probably not gonna buy it. i’m also excited for the rehashed soundtrack, i usually don’t like how they sound in remakes vs the originals but you never know
the new peach centric game looks pretty neat too even though we didn’t really get any substantial gameplay footage. at first i was like "is this a super princess peach remake??" before i saw more of it. also not really looking like my sorta thing but it’s great to see because we haven’t had a peach game before or after super princess peach. idk if i dig the semi-3D gameplay though. it feels weird having a lot of horizontal but very little vertical movement. and like it’s cool that we’re getting a new game but that showcase really gave us nothing LOL like i have no real idea what type of game this is
tbh idk the point of the dark moon rerelease though like it doesn’t look THAT much better to me and it was already playable on a portable console and there’s already lm3 on switch? but like i guess again if you don’t have a 3ds you might want to play it? but it’s like not really as widely loved as the original or lm3 which is already for switch but whatever. it does have its fans and i’m sure there’s people interested in playing it. + they already ported the original to 3ds so just putting it on switch too i guess would seem kinda weird
super mario wonder also looks really neat?? it’s weird that the only game i really think i’m considering getting is the 2D platformer LMFAO. mario turned into an elephant and said wowie zowie 🥺 also this is the first time daisy has ever been playable in a nsmb type game which is sick. peach looks really weirdly short though compared to M&L which is kind of odd because when she was playable in other games they never had to do that so it’s jarring to see. the playable cast might be bigger than shown too because i doubt they’d get rid of rosalina after 3d world and i’m thinking toadette will probably be there. the style seems cute even if it’s jarring to see after like 20 years of the nsmb look
i also don’t own mk8 deluxe LMAO but it’s cool you all got more stages
overall not really a direct for me but i hope everyone has a good time with all this stuff :-] people who can’t buy smrpg on wiiu can play it portably on switch which’ll be nice, peach fans get a new game, mario + rabbids fans have been looking forward to this dlc so i hope it met expectations, luigi’s mansion fans people who have never played it can try dark moon and the new 2D mario looks fun 👍👍👍

The modern Pokemon games seem to attract a lot of passionate and varied speculation about their makers' development processes. Do you have any insight on 1.) why those games might have released the way they did, and 2.) whether it was inevitable for the series to disappoint the enthusiast crowd?
Hey, thanks for the ask!
So I'll preface this with the fact that I'm admittedly not incredibly up-to-date on Pokemon as a franchise on the whole. I follow the news and such but the last Pokemon game I really played for any significant stretch of time was Pokemon Gold (maybe Black if we're being generous?) so keep in mind that my knowledge might generally be a bit outdated. I'm also assuming this is in reference to Scarlet/Violet specifically, and how they got pretty lukewarm reception in general.
With that in mind I have some thoughts.
(wall of text warning..)
I'll answer question #2 "if it is inevitable for the enthusiast crowd to be disappointed" first because IMO it's a pretty universal problem not exclusive to Pokemon.
I think die-hard fans are the most likely to *really* understand a game or franchise, and therefore are most likely to be critical of it in general. It's why you look at reviews for a game like DOTA2 and see no shortage of players with 2000+ hours giving negative reviews to it and picking every tiny little detail most people don't care about in it apart. Players who have played so much of a game to understand every pattern, every design decision, and every little nuance usually can find the flaws easily despite the fact they might have generally played a lot of it, because they know what to look for and what little issues it might hide when you dedicate yourself to it. It's why QA are so good at what they do, because they have 1000+ hours playing the same content over and over.
These players will always catch all the little things most regular players won't, and on that note it's also always worth keeping in mind these players aren't the average player and it's always worth taking their opinion with a grain of salt. Personally, I find myself more inclined to listen to the player who plays through the game once and puts it aside more than the 'hardcore' fanbase, because that's more representative of the average player.
In terms of inevitability? Well there's always a subsection of people who will be disappointed no matter what, and with Pokemon being a franchise with dozens of games and titles always coming out down the pipeline...idk you can only make hits so many times before something falls apart and a stinker comes out, so I guess I'd say it's inevitable?
#1 "why those games might have released the way they did" is more complicated because there's any number of things that can cause a game to have a rocky launch - some of which are exclusive to Nintendo/Pokemon and some of which aren't.
The obvious one that people much smarter than me have pointed out before is their development time seems to have gotten pretty ambitious; a couple years is nowhere near enough dev times for a huge game polished like Pokemon normally is.
For example, Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed fell into these traps years ago; Ubisoft eventually course corrected and said "hey we think we're making these Assassin's Creed games faster than we can manage and we're gunna slow down" whereas Activision has always juggled like 4-5 studios on Call of Duty to keep the cycle churning, for better or for worse. In this day and age a couple years will simply not get you an end product you need for a game with a legacy of polish like Pokemon unless you have a ton of thumbs in that pie.
However I've personally always felt like Pokemon at its core had a scalability problem; the concept of introducing dozens (or hundreds) of new Pokemon every generation as well as improving graphical fidelity on whatever new hardware Nintendo has most recently released sounds incredibly daunting and frankly always seems like it would be a huge risk for content generation. Some of the Pokemon titles cut out Pokemon and content in order to make this scaling achievable, but to be frank I think Pokemon sorta scaled successfully for a long while because in 2D mostly static sprites in a world are fairly easy to work with and easier to scale up. 3D however can be another beast entirely - the prospect of modelling, animating, building data, testing, etc. on hundreds of these characters in transitioning into a 3rd dimension is daunting to me even on paper, notwithstanding having to design the content, plan how it all looks from every angle and how those sort of elements affect each other spatially. When I first heard they would be making full-on Pokemon games in 3D my initial response was "oh my god what" because that alone sounds like a lot of work even if you do have Nintendo-level resources.
I think what really makes all this the most daunting task ever to me is not only are you 'converting' this graphical experience into 3D, you're also having to translate a lot of content into an open-world and properly 'free' design as well on the gameplay side, which hasn't really been done before in the franchise (to my knowledge). Things get real weird when you introduce a whole other dimension to how a game fundamentally works.
Pokemon has a lot of old rules that fans have internalized, and operate how they do because at their core they're built for the 2D/2.5D linear experience Pokemon always was. Trainers battle you when you see them in a line directly in front of them and don't have proper 'sight', people only exist in one place at all times, there's no real transitory dynamic day/night to speak of, quests are often strictly linear lock-and-key designs, Pokemon UI has often been 2D and more or less worked the exact same way ever since the 90s...honestly I could go on and on all day about how fundamentally different it is to make a game like this in the 'traditional' Pokemon way compared to the 'Open World' way. It's not to say that all these mechanics or systems need to change when moving to 3D, but it does necessitate that you have to pick apart every system and assumption you have about the franchise and potentially re-design it to work for an open world 3D setup. Couple that with having to build an open-world game for the Switch in general which is a tough task for most non-1st party titles (AFAIK even BOTW/TOTK had troubles and slowdown - and they're a first-party Nintendo joint with probably super high internal priority) it sounds like a complete nightmare to me.
On top of all this, when you realize all these fundamental design shifts to the property are coupled with the fact the studio likely didn't have a team of developers who are comfortable or even familiar with building a high-fidelity and dramatically non-linear open-world Pokemon experiences yet (since they've never really done it at this scale before) AND they wanted to build new content and mechanics on addition to everything else...it sounds like it could easily be a complete shitshow.
Basically I guess that's my answer: what they tried to do is a massive challenge both scope-wise and content-wise, so I suspect production would have been an uphill battle.
Internally it's probably hard to say who's at 'fault' or what the story is; did Nintendo maybe get greedy and push for an earlier release? Did the producers overpromise Nintendo on a concept that was too complex and had to underdeliver to compromise? Did some Creative Director maybe push really hard on an open world concept only to have it bite them in the bum? Who can say - certainly not me!

Who and What would you want for the next Super Smash Bros?
Who:
idk man I got K. Rool Ridley and Banjo, it's hard for me to say there's anything left that I want super badly at this point. There's several I wouldn't mind having but won't be bummed if they got in. If I had to make a list of characters I'd like to see...
Toad
Dixie Kong
Impa ( at this point she could be a replacement or echo of Shiek )
Tingle
Geno ( yes I'm one of those, the Mario RPGs should be represented in some way besides another form of Mario. )
Krystal
Porky
Raven Beak
Samurai Goroh
Black Shadow ( My idea here is just give him Ganondorf's old moveset so it actually make sense, and give Ganondorf a moveset that actually, you know, represents how he behaves in the Legend of Zelda series )
Mike Jones
Starfy
Shadow the Hedgehog ( Absolutely bonkers he wasn't a Sonic Echo Figher )
Dr. Eggman
Doom Slayer
Crash Bandicoot
Spyro the Dragon
And lastly, this is going to be my biggest wish that nobody is going to support... Agumon.
Or maybe more accurately, the whole Digimon version 1 line. Because my vision for this character would pay homage to the original LCD screen virtual pet, you start off as an Agumon in the fight. Your HUD has a hunger meter, and the down B will feed Agumon a piece of meat. If you take good care of Agumon, he will become Greymon, and if Greymon performs well in battle, he can become Metal Greymon.
Neglect to feed Agumon and he will evolve into the weak and sluggish Numamon. But even Numamon can have the potential to evolve into a powerful fighter in the form of Monzemon.
I suppose this complicates the final Smash a little bit, but we could borrow from the anime and have them warp evolve into Omnimon or something to perform a powerful mega hit. The actual rules of evolving with Digimon seem to vary depending on the virtual pet, the game, or the anime. I don't see why Smash Bros couldn't also bend the rules a bit.
I worry that the next one is just going to be another parade of third party characters, most of whom I probably won't care much about. ( Yes I know my next "big pick" is third party, i'm operating under the assumption that things aren't changing ) I feel like they made a huge mistake when they shifted their focus to mostly third party characters after the Smash Wii U DLC, now this is all anyone ever talks about and insults the shit out of people who ask for Nintendo characters, but who knows, we can only wait and see. I just hope that, if there are any cuts ( which seems inevitable ) I hope they keep most, if not all of the first party characters that they own the rights to. I'm not saying purge all guests but like, maybe not so many, and maybe only the ones with a strong history with Nintendo please?
As for What...
A real Adventure mode, I know Sakurai doesn't like people uploading the cutscenes, but I feel like axing it out of the game completely was very petty and punishes everyone, not just the people who uploaded/watched the cutscenes online, besides, I wouldn't mind if they scaled it back to melee style platforming levels with a few enemies here and there. Personally I would prefer that to a Subspace Emmissary 2, with a bunch of baddies that aren't from any specific games.
I'd want more alternative costumes, they did a lot better with this in Smash 4 and Smash Ultimate but it still didn't go far enough in my opinion. Why was the fusion suit for Samus STILL just a recolor? I'd also like more character alts like Alph and the Koopalings, sometimes you just don't need to become a whole ass echo.
I don't know if there's really all that much more I'd want out of Smash from a gameplay standpoint. It's essentially perfect for me.

I feel like listing headcanons for some of my f/os for funsies
It may be a lot so im putting it under a cut
Captain Spaceboy/Space Boyfriend
I see his gender as just transmasc (which is canon!) And his sexuality is prob smth like ace and panromantic
He is an absolute fucking gamer, which I see him as being a nintendo fan for the most part, and is probably addicted to monster (which just comes from how others portray him tbh djfkfke)
He is partially a bird-like alien (because his dad is but for some reason canonically he's basically just a blue human) and has a bunch of scars on his body from battles but also ofc top surgery scars
He has freckles in the shape of constellations
He is so beautiful istg
Sour Belt Cookie
I see her as transfem and bisexual (probably prefering fems)
Our relationship is purely romantic however
She actually still looks masculine and is absolutely not ashamed by it, shes fine with being flat and having a bit of body hair (which I dont think ive drawn damnnnn)
She is fine with showing a lot of her body which is pretty much canon I think but I feel the need to specify that, she loves wearing comfy stuff <3
Shes in a poly with me and choco bar (and maybe schneeball cookie but idk if shes an f/o yet)
She keeps trying to encourage choco bar to wear comfier clothes
I don't have as much to say about her I'm so so sorry but shes so pretty omg djdjsksk
Choco Bar Cookie
Shes a cis lesbian, and usually I like to depict her as having darker skin (mostly just because. chocolate)
I've been meaning to depict her with a bunch of scars on her body because she's a stunt double after all, but I keep forgetting
At least ive drawn her with a lost tooth and a bandaid on her nose <3<3<3<3<3<3<3
Usually she likes wearing things that cover her entire body, wearing a full blown body suit most of the time and wearing pajamas inside only sometimes, shes very shy about showing any skin, how is she not sweating her ass off
She has freckles all over her body that are sorta like nuts or whatever is on granola bars usually and it looks cool
I should mention that the way I usually portray cookie run characters is that they are much more humanoid, but are still completely made of dough and sweets
You could theoretically eat her but dont fucking do that
I love my wivesfjfdidkdjj
Auglur
Auglur seems like the type to not really care about gender and sexuality labels too much, and would be fine with any pronouns (I usually use they/them) and could be fine dating anyone
I see Auglur as having a soft and serious persona, while occasionally being super snarky if in a bad mood
My self insert is made out of slime that they can't control well which causes a lot of monsters (really just any that aren't made of slime) to be uncomfortable with them-
but Auglur is an exception, they like the feel of it a lot and would probably play with me a bit as if I was a kid's slime toy djfisosojfj
On rare off-chances, Auglur would play little video games on, uh, theirself??? Auglur is sort of weird with how they work with digital stuff, being able to manifest hands and panels that create sound canonically, Auglur could probably have social media idk
This is all I can think of for nowbcjdossowo this is just my main f/os admittedly

@aureateart ok. My favourite parts of twilight princess (and some other random thoughts about TP sprinkled in there) taken from my monster TP word vomit google doc :
Link lmao
Ok but for real, I like this incarnation of Link :)
I love Ordon (it just seems like such a chill and cozy village)
ALSO love how easy it is to interpret Link as being a sort of older brother figure to the Ordon kiddos. It’s just,, super cute? AND GHHH nice nice good thanks nintendo for giving me characters to care about/characters that I can imagine Link caring about
He didn’t sign up for any of this (tbh, none of the Links really signed up for this jshdjsd). But I mean like, dude was just going to take a trip to castle town, drop a gift off for the royal family, and come back. But haHA oopsies he did get to castle town eventually but definitely not the way he expected hsjdhsd
He’s just a little dude?
AND FUCK. HE REALLY HAD NEVER BEEN OUTSIDE OF ORDON UNTIL ALL OF THAT
everything is new for the player AND Link
Midna
She’s cool :)
she really just
*teleports into your jail cell* hello whore.
I am no master at writing but AYYYY she do got a character arc!!!
She was actually pretty helpful sometimes, I ALWAYS checked in with her before turning to a game guide
Other NPCs
NICE
Love all of the TP character designs (ASHEI’S ARMOUR??? AOWOAOAOOAO)
Saving Zelda and all of Hyrule was important yea but thinking back maybe it was more like, the Ordonians and the kids were what was pushing Link to keep on going
I like the Resistance members :) Very video gamey of them to have one NPC assigned to each dungeon but hey!!! Kinda cool getting to see a little glimpse of each of em
Idk, it’s just fun to imagine Link popping into Telma’s bar after each dungeon and taking a little rest :) (or to celebrate? maybe just chat, idk, give this man some downtime!!)
Honestly it was just kind of nice that Link wasn’t entirely alone. I mean, I know Midna was there the whole time, but I am always for giving Link a big group of friends (see my love for hyrule warriors, age of calamity, and LU LMAO)
Hero’s shade, very very cool, kinda sad he died with regrets but HEY. He got to pass on his knowledge eventually
AND the connection to OoT?? AND assumed to be related by blood too????? GOOD SHIT
Ilia, I REALLY really wanted to like her (er, it’s not like I dislike her, she’s just,,, kinda there for me).
It definitely seems like Nintendo was pushing to make her the romantic interest, but GHHHHH they really threw that out of the window for me by having her lose her memories
I saw a text post a while ago that said it would have been interesting if Ilia was Link’s sister instead and YES!! That would have been cool too :0
Wish we got to know Zelda a little more
I feel like we barely know anything about her
Idk man, like I said earlier, I never really had any sort of drive to save Zelda during my playthroughs
She obviously knows Midna, so maybe if they gave us just a little bit more of that relationship I’d be more interested in her?
TP WORLD BUILDINGGGG
Botw has good world building too, but each race felt kinda,,, isolated? I absolutely love the different architecture and vibe each town has (and all the the weapons too) but ghhh yea everyone felt so separated. As far as I can remember, we don’t see tooo much of the races interacting with each other? Now that I’m typing that out maybe that’s to be expected because of the calamity but KLSJDKJFD ANYWAYS THIS IS ABOUT TP
The world feels nice and alive, love how populated everything is
Castle town I like castle town a lot, it feels dense and busy and I really like how you can’t talk to every NPC you see
Very cool very fun that we got to see the Gorons hanging out in multiple spots
kinda wish we got to see the Zoras a little more (I guess they are a bit limited since they need water but GHHHH the tp zoras are so prebby,,)
BUT HEY, I do remember seeing a zora or two hanging out in the hot springs around death mountain after beating the lakebed temple (I think, might have been a different dungeon)
but aaaa would have been nice to see them in at least a couple of other places. I think it would have really added to the “congrats Link!! You’re restoring peace to Hyrule” feeling you get from seeing the Gorons hanging out in Kakariko and Castle Town
ORDON
Love how chill it is and how it’s kind of separate from Hyrule proper
They really do seem to be doing their own thing apart from the rest of Hyrule
Just kinda adds onto the “he’s just a regular dude minding his own business” kind of vibes I get from TP Link
Also I like Ordona :)
THE LIGHT SPIRITS,,
Love their design
And love how they’re not exactly like a pure white?
Different spirit representing each aspect of the triforce my beloved
But yes hi I think Ordona is very cool
Who are you, how did you get here, which goddess do you represent? Do you even represent one of the three golden goddesses? Do the Ordonians know about you? Have any of them ever SEEN you??? Do they worship you? Does anybody even know about the existence of the light spirits?? FUCK so many questions but ghhh I like how they broke the status quo a bit by throwing in a fourth spirit :)
I feel like this one is kinda weird but I like that voice sample they used in the light spirit music. It’s spooky and pretty at the same time :)
cutscenes mmmmm
Ok ok, the spooky lanayru cutscene is very good
BUT THE “Link, Chosen Hero! Lend us the last of your power!” CUTSCENE MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM LOVE IT SO MUCH
IT just
Idk man
It just hit different
I like the music
And seeing the light spirits swimming around in the light juice water whatever it is
Summoning the light arrows?
AND HHHHH “Lend us the last of your power!” THIS IS IT. This is the final battle.
Seeing Zelda bow down, and then Link putting his hand out 👌👌👌
Link: ok bud, let’s do this together :)
Connection to OoT (did I already mention this? Maybe., Whatever)
Very cool nintendo :)
I love seeing connections between all the diff zelda games.
Because like, on one hand, they’re all separate from each other because of yknow, individual hero stuff. BUT ALSO, they’re all connected because of the reincarnation stuff
Grrrr walking through the sacred grove and going “The Hero of Time walked around here a long time ago” FUCK THATS SO COOL
Is the Hero’s Shade watching me? What does he think of me? DIsappointed? Proud? The Hero of Time went through HELL so this timeline didn’t have to deal with any of the shit Ganon was gonna pull with the triforce, better not fuck this UP Link!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Midlink is cute
Kinda hurts that she smashed the mirror but that was probably so Nintendo didn’t have to worry about people going “but what about the twili??????” for any of the other games LMAO
BUT ALSO LIKE SKJDKLJFJ There are some pretty massive plot holes in TP anyway so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ whatever it’s fine we’ll just use this for angst because GOD do y’all like angst
So is Shadlink
Honestly don’t know where this ship came from but it’s cute so whatever
THE MUSIC??
Love Midna’s theme and how they referenced the dark world theme from ALttP (I remember trying to learn the dark world theme on the piano and doing the Leonardo DiCaprio point meme at the little jingle I recognized from Midna’s theme)
Hyrule field theme SLAPS.
Apparently references a couple of the other over-world themes from the previous zelda games (I got this from 8-bit Music theory’s video on the over-world zelda themes, he talks about TP at around 11:40 but def recommend watching the whole video if you’re into music analysis stuff)
So there’s this bit of the Hyrule Field theme, I don’t know the official name for it but I remember seeing somewhere it being called the “at an advantage theme” since yeah, you hear it during the boss music whenever you expose their weak points. FUCKINGGG LOVE THAT. Didn’t notice it during my first playthrough, but hearing it during my second was like a little easter egg for my ears every time :)
Midna’s lament is very pretty (and fun to play on the piano)
COURAGE THEME.
I didn’t care for it too much when I started playing the game but hearing it in ZREO’s arrangement of the Hyrule Field theme literally makes me turn into a puddle of emotions. Also hearing it around and of the Ordon kids (I think it plays after Link saves Colin) AAAAAAAAAAAAA
Orchestra piece #1 and #2 HOLY SHIT????????????????
Literally, the first time I listened to those I just,,,, plugged in my headphones, volume 100, layed on the floor/against my desk and silently vibed. I don’t know what the hell it is, but those two just fit so well with TP?? I still avoid listening to them nowadays cause if I DO I definitely will get overwhelmed with the “god I love this game so FUCKING MUCH” kind of feels.
Wolf link sucks at singing
the first time I heard him howling Zelda’s Lullaby I lost my shit because LKSJLDKSGLKJFSKG god that was.,, Bad. Anyways, hearing him howl some of the songs from OoT was cute :)
TP STAFF ROLL???
VERY GOOD. IT’s like 10 minutes long and GOD do I love every single second of it. It doesn’t have the same energy as the skyward sword staff roll or the orchestra pieces but GOD does it hit good??
Nice and calm after that big exciting adventure. Maybe it would have been more fun or emotional to have a higher energy piece but it was really nice getting to sit back and watch the camera fly around Hyrule. Seeing like, the Gorons and the Zoras having a good time, the kids returning to Ordon? GOOD SHIT.
and AAAAA that end, when you hear the main Zelda theme and see Link riding off out of Faron woods on Epona… good shit. It gets you thinking, where the hell is he going? What is he doing? Off ot do more adventuring? Going to help out the resistance or something? Going to help Zelda? Or maybe he’s trying to figure out a way to restore the mirror of twilight? Whoooo knows.
hhHHHHhhh it’s just that final reminder that YES!!! YOU JUST PLAYED A ZELDA GAME. JUST ANOTHER STORY APART OF THE WHOLE EPIC OF THE ZELDA SERIES AS A WHOLE
I also want to acknowledge the instrument/samples they used for all the twili stuff.
They’re all just so unique and contrast SO well with the rest of the TP OST. LIKE FUCK!! Anytime I hear the screech from the Twilit Kargarok? Sends a shiver down my spine. I associate those sounds SO strongly with the twili realm. (Like, the same way you associate the BSHEWW VVWWMMM sounds with light sabers)
I love it so god damn much
literally any time there’s a certain sound or motif associated with something I lose my shit
Sacred grove sacred grove sacred gro-
lovely lovely lovely so much fun playing that on the piano. AND again, I did the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme when I heard the theme from the lost woods come in GHHHHHHHH
shoutout to TP Faron Woods for helping me study and get through all of my schoolwork
BLEGUUHHH can you tell that I really love music?
and also yea I guess TP is kinda cool too :\
IF YOU READ ALL OF THAT THANKS I GUESS

NCT holding your drink at a party
Aight here's the thing. First of all, I feel like most of them have not been to enough parties with women or even anyone other than each other so you'd likely have to explain why you're asking them to hold/watch it. Second, some of these boys, dare I say MEN will not be reliable to hold your drink at a party. Let's discuss.
Taeil: Love him to death but if you asked him to hold your drink, I doubt he would understand what to do. He'd hold it for a short period of time but wouldn't keep too close of an eye on it just because I don't think he gets how serious it is.
Johnny: Hear me out. Yes he knows to watch it carefully and keep a hand on top of it, but he's not going to stop dancing or doing whatever it was he was doing before you asked him. I also feel like if you take too long, he's going to hunt you down because he'd get annoyed holding it too long.
Yuta: You'd have to tell him to put his hand over it and then he'd understand and do his best. He might also try to do you a favor and refill it but he'd probably mix his drinks really strong.
Taeyong: What would start as a simple favor would turn into explaining to him the dangers of being a woman and then you two would just spiral into a conversation about how society has to change. Whatever you were going to do, you've completely forgotten about it.
Kun: He is already watching the keys, coats, purses, and drinks voluntarily. It's basically his job at this point.
Doyoung: He already knows exactly what to do. Will hold it for as long as you need. Is happy to help and will drive you home too if you drink too much at the end of the night. But he's not taking off your shoes or anything because your feet smell.
Ten: Why do I feel like he'd just say no? He'd be too busy partying anyway either dancing or doing drinking games so really it's for the best.
Jaehyun: He's a really big wild card. I know everyone sees fratboy Jeffrey but idk. Personally, I'd be too shy to ask him anyway because he's gorgeous. I could see him holding a drink for his close female friends but if you don't really know him, he'd be hesitant to take the responsibility.
Winwin: Baby doesn't understand and we want him to believe the world is a better place than it is so don't explain to him why either. He can learn when he's older lol.
Jungwoo: As seen in the Brklyn Boys video, we all know Jungwoo is a sleepy quiet drunk so I could see trusting him to just sit on the couch in the corner and do nothing but watch people as he holds your drink.
Lucas: He really really wants to be the person you trust. Like you probably asked someone else first and they couldn't so he volunteers because he wants to be a cool man. He won't let you give it to anyone else but like not in a creepy way. When you finally give in and let him watch it, he spills the drink within minutes and secretly goes to refill it with hopefully the same drink.
Mark: "I mean yeah I can hold it, but, why though??" Too tipsy to understand. Would spill it and not refill because he didn't realize he spilled. Probably shouldn't trust him.
Xiaojun: He's too busy being a social little butterfly. He's not about to be tied down to keeping an eye on your drink.
Renjun: Yeah he'd do it and you can trust him. Hands down a gentleman.
Hendery: I feel like he'd be surprised that you asked him for this favor but would still do a great job. He can still joke around and have fun but he won't take his hands off your cup.
Jeno: He probably brought a nintendo switch to the party and seems like the type to be playing smash bros all night so unless he's out for a round, his hands are occupied.
Jaemin: He's going to be acting drunk even though he isn't drinking just to feel like he fits in, but as soon as you ask him for this favor, he's going to turn serious and will hold it carefully for however long you need him too. Probably went to go get you a water too, just to make sure you're taken care of.
Haechan: Uhhhh nah. He wouldn't do anything sketchy to the drink in terms of spiking/drugging it, but if he's had a grudge against you for any period of time, he's probably spitting in it. Love him to death but he a petty b*tch.
Yangyang: Also no. He's a good guy don't get me wrong but he just won't look after it like he should.
Chenle: He's probably playing games with Jeno and getting competitive. Would throw your drink if he was holding it. Realistically though, I think if you asked him, he'd just point at a table and tell you to put it down there.
Jisung: Doesn't know why he's doing what he's doing but when you said put your hand on top of the cup, his huge hands were put to good use and although he's confused, he's proud to be able to help.
I don't think I know Shotaro and Sungchan well enough to judge them on this yet. ㅠㅠ

Piofiore no Banshou -ricordo- - Review
Since I finally got a Nintendo Switch I decided to try Piofiore no Banshou, what with 1926 recently released and all. I know the English ver (Fated Memories) came out earlier this year, but I played the Japanese one so I won’t be commenting on quality of translations and such.
What actually caught my eye for this game was the art, especially the number of different outfits and hairstyles Liliana had. I’m neutral about the mafia setting. Most of the reviews I read were positive, especially the ones for the eng ver, so I decided to give it a shot. Overall I had a decently fun time with it, but I wouldn’t say it’s one of my favourites.
Piofiore is real pretty to look at, but suffers from poor writing at parts. The personalities of the guys tend to flip-flop depending on the route. Liliana, while very cute, is not what you would consider a ‘strong heroine’. The plot wasn’t that interesting to me and the finale route was underwhelming. Still, the characters were for the most part entertaining enough that I didn’t consider this a waste of my time and it didn’t bore me.
If you love this game to bits you might want to stop reading here.
*spoilers after the cut*
Plot: The heroine, Liliana, is an orphan who grew up in the church. The city has 3 mafia gangs(Falzone, Visconti, Laoshu) each controlling a diff part of the city, as well as a neutral area. A mafia controlled Italian city in 1925 sounds liked a fun setting yeah? In each route she basically gets attacked and is rescued/taken in by one of the gangs and spends time helping them with their stuff. We learn that she’s the latest in a line of chosen maidens who supposedly act as the key to unlocking a holy relic, which is why various parties want to kill/protect/possess her for their own agenda.
The overall plot is to... actually idk because there is no overarching goal common to the routes except maybe to not die. Liliana herself doesn’t seem to have any of her own goals to achieve. Therein imo is where the story writing gets a bit bland. Dante’s route is where you learn more about Liliana being the chosen one since the Falzone family are the guardians of the relic, but in the end it was just sth like “If a Falzone and the holy maiden sleep together you can unlock relic” -.- Nth wrong with it being so cliche, but it also makes this rather irrelevant in the other routes. In the other routes Liliana being the chosen one just becomes an excuse for the game to pile all sorts of abuse on her.
Regarding Liliana... If you are the sort who really wants a strong heroine you’ll probably hate her. She puts up with a lot of nonsense and abuse, especially in Yang’s route. Admittedly at times it’s a matter of suck it up or die but she’s still rather lacking in personality. The producers designed her to cater to the self-insert player base so her backstory and character are left as vague as possible. Her being the holy maiden also comes with zero special powers so she literally is just a helpless damsel in distress. I personally wasn’t too bothered by it but just find it a waste given how they had such a potentially good setting to work with.
What mainly bothers me with the writing was how characters tend to change personality depending on the route, as well as them making pretty stupid decisions when they should know better. I think Orlok’s bad end is a well known example of this for Dante. Nicola’s goal in his route makes zero sense, and also poor Robert who suddenly goes yandere. Jozef is suddenly a good guy in a couple of the routes. Yang is pretty much the most consistent guy, except that he is consistently an arse. When the route with the guy who abuses the heroine the most is the most entertaining route, you know the writing is messed up.
The finale route was also pretty meaningless and felt a bit lazy since it branched off from Gilbert’s route when there was no real reason for it. I mean, if you want to have a secret love interest can you at least give the guy some decent development and his own route?
As for the plus points, I’d say the game is still pretty entertaining to play through. It’s mostly carried by the art and characters themselves rather than the plot. I also like the darker and more mature feel of the game since I’m not a huge fan of fluff games most of the time. There really is a lot more violence and sex in this game than you’d usually see, although sometimes it feels a bit forced just so they can have the shock factor. It’s not super long like HnK or super boring like the KBO fd so that’s good. It’s actually remarkable that despite the poor writing the game was still rather fun. Maybe that’s the true power of the holy maiden hmm.
Characters: Due to the writing being all over the place and the flip-flopping personalities I have no true favourite for this game. If I had to say I’d pick Dante, because he likes cats and for the most part he seems to care about Liliana even when it’s not his route. Gilbert is a close second because he just seems like a fun guy to hang out with and yay shopping. Orlok seems more like a younger brother. Yang, while very entertaining, has an absolutely rubbish personality. Nicola’s route ruined the character for me :/
I’d usually spend some time here talking about the heroine’s personality but she doesn’t really have one. Pretty standard nice, likes baking, will take a bullet for her guy kind of girl. But yeah, no goals of her own.
The sub characters in this game are so-so. My favourites are the Laoshu twins because of how they somehow make every scene they are in more interesting. Emilio is just there to conveniently make things better for the characters involved. But hey, everyone looks great!
System/Interface: It’s nice and suits the setting. Not much to complain about. I would have liked a ‘skip to next choice’ option for this game. The newspaper clipping style main menu is kinda cute. No trophies to collect since it’s on the Switch.
Art/Music: RiRi’s art saves the day. Even if the characters do stupid or mean stuff, at least they look good doing it. Tbh this is the first game RiRi has done so far where I really like the art. Also kudos for Liliana’s multiple hairstyle and clothing changes. I would have liked more CGs featuring the characters interacting with one another and not just Liliana. Overall the art was prob what I liked best about the game.
Music wasn’t too bad. I enjoyed it while playing but nothing that really impressed me enough to want to buy the soundtrack. I like the various faction themes and they do a decent job of conveying each gang’s mood. OP/ED didn’t stick in my head.
Overall. my main feelings about the game would be... mild disappointment? I was expecting a more action packed, dramatic game. I don’t regret it though because it was fun enough and there’s lots of eye candy. It’s mostly the wasted potential that annoys me. Sorry if this came across as more of a rant than a review. I know a lot of people love this game lol. If you’re interested in darker and edgier games this is still worth giving it a shot. I also have the FD so I’m hoping it will improve my opinion of the series. Will probably start on it after the new year ^^

Casonverse Expo
ok so after you see this you Cannot save it. the whole thing about the casonverse is that its solely “oral” and memory based. i cannot write down “rules” to it or anything. this post Will be lost to time and youll just have to deal with that
ok so. we begin. our story. w/ an explanation on how ectobiology has been going on earth c. basically, every once in a while to increase genetic diversity, a babeh between two of the original founders is created randomly, and said founders get to decide if they want to adopt that babeh or not.
now its been a very very long time on earth c and all of these bitches are immortal. yep. every single one. even the non godtiers, they get an immortality boon for winning the game. you know whats also a boon? all of the players getting revived. yep. every single one. because this is my au and i can do what i want.
anyways as i was saying basically at some point a babeh between john and karkat is made and this time theyre like “yeah ok well adopt this one” SO. they be goin there. and the ONE TIME they decide this is the right time the baby is fuckin BROKE. the internal organs of trolls and humans dont mesh very well when the genes are combined in the ectomachine, and this baby is basically just dying very slowly. this baby isssss Casey! well, shes not named that by her parents, but well just call her Casey for now.
john and karkat do their fuckin best to keep this thing alive but her tiny baby body is completely dysfunctional. and doesnt last very long. This is Traumatizing for Everyone Involved. anyways!! a pretty long time after that we have Cason and Jones. they were spawned at the same time. Jones is rose and kanayas horrible ectospawn, and Cason happens to be another equally horrible spawn between john and karkat! they decide to adopt this one, and fortunately it lives. This was Their First Mistake.
but before we get into Cason, lets get into Jones. Jones is,,,, very socially awkward. in fact, she often comes off as creepy to everyone else. this makes her very clingy towards her mothers, who arent That terrible at parenting. theyve got quirks, but theyre good for her. Jones doesnt really have any friends, except this Totally Cool and Not at All Dangerous cult she gets dragged into! this is the second secret shes ever kept from her mothers. the first is that shes the one who keeps bringing snails into the house. Jones likes snails, but shes not good at taking care of them. she just keeps bringing them into the house and feeding them her snack. her snack is rat poison. snails like and digest rat poison safely. snails! she likes them.
ALSO APPARENTLY SHE CAN SEE GHOSTS???? yeah lets get into that. see, Casey becomes a Regular Ghost after she dies. not a dream ghost, just a plain ol ghost. and anyways, shes around the same age as everyone else if not a year older due to Ghost Rules now, and Cason is the only one that seems to be able to see her. and then theres Jones. Jones is absolutely stunning to Casey and yes she falls so hard in dokis. but Jones is trying to ignore the fact that she can see ghosts. it makes her feel like even more of an outcast. ooooo drama! anyways those two have their own background plot going on about fighting eldritch gods or something idk.
LETS GET BACK TO CASON. see. Cason. is The Worst. like, genuinely. ever since he was a kiddo, he was a completely spoiled brat from day one, and spent his childhood Looking Down on People for multiple reasons. for one, hes the son of TWO FUCKING FOUNDERS AND RAISED BY THEM, two he got away with EVERYTHING, and three i think its just in his nature. Cason prides himself in being knowledgeable and better than everyone else, but he is not like Other Egomaniacs((tm.))
Cason doesnt necessarily care about being liked, even if he WAS a great manipulator, or being the best at Everything. he couldnt care less about sports or popularity. all he wants, is Control. just like hes had since day one. This is Terrible for Everyone Involved.
but most terrible for anyone, is Tippie Piyjon. Tippie is terezi and nepetas ectospawn, which, really started it all. now, terezi and nepeta are not horrible people, or even necessarily horrible parents, but theyre just not suited for it. Tippie raised herself on romance novels and the like, especially after being sortve taken in as a goddaughter by karkat almost immediately after she was born. and, because of this, she got to meet Cason very early on. there was hardly ever a day where the two werent around eachother, whether they liked it or not. in school, at their own house, wherever. now, being around Cason of all people all the time, meant you knew exactly how he operated.
and well, Tippie figured that, maybe, if she was just good enough, she could change him. and Cason used that to his full advantage. the two became moirails, which was Fucked Up for Everyone Involved, and grew ever closer. now Cason, being Cason, was Extremely Emotionally Abusive to Tippie. she had to do what he asked, whatever it was, even if it wasnt morally right, she had to stay by his side, she couldnt cry in front of his parents, she had to get good grades so he wouldnt look bad, so many damn things she had to do. even if he never once laid a finger on her, her mental health was, slowly but surely, chiseled down.
every attempt at defying him was met with such coldness, or hed act more warm towards her, so surely she was doing something right and had to keep going. just had to be good enough. hell get better eventually. Cason earns the title of #1 Gaslighter Extraordinare. the only place she found any solace away from him was grubscouts, which she joined on her own terms when she was very young, and at the time was a camp counselor even! this lasted. for so many years.
Cason is nineteen whenever i depict him, and Tippie is seventeen, but very nearly eighteen. eventually, she cant take it anymore, and snaps at him. usually this doesnt last, and he would manage to calm her down eventually, but shes fucking Tired of it. he hasnt changed. not even a bit. well. Cason cant have that, now can he? the first time he lays a hand on her, he slaps her across the face. Big Mistake. though terrified, Tippie lashes out, and claws Casons left eye out, making a terribly deep gash that would leave him permanently blind in that eye whether or not he got treatment.
this scares the SHIT out of her, and Tippie runs off, for the first time, to her mothers. as she cries, she recounts how terrible everythings been and how she didnt mean it and shes sorry and- theres nothing to apologize for. its very clear, that they shouldve stepped in sooner, shouldve noticed something was wrong. meanwhile, Cason crawls home to his own dads, who are rightfully spooked seeing their son with a horrifically bloody face and a gouged eyeball. they only had a second to try and comfort him, before he snapped at them, showing a bit of his true nature to them for the first time, and also, terezi showing up behind him. after a thorough explanation which was mostly just a few stern, if a little tearful words, Casons parents are completely mortified. karkat quickly kicks him out in an act of raw emotion. no chance to grab clothes, or for john to interject, Cason is left outside, alone, and with absolutely no power left. what will he do?
theres also other characters but theyre like babies so they dont have much characterization and also arent very important to the story. but here they are ig:
owen, jade and daves child. hes like, 3. he likes sticks and playing in mud. hes 3 what more do you want from him
siyren, aradia and feferis kiddo. shes like, 6. she likes ballet, arts and crafts, and being snooty
damien, eridan and solluxs kid. hes 10, likes calling people slurs over xbox, and overcompensating since his parents waited so damn long to adopt him after his slimebirth
killer, who named himself, aradia and sollux kid. hes like 11 or something. he likes being edgy and has the same issue as damien. in fact, all but siyren have this issue
toga bitch, who i have currently yet to name, aradia and eridans kid. shes 12. she likes earth rome and chilling in public fountains. a burgundy whose violetkin
wemon wemon, who is also currently unnamed, feferi and eridans kid. hes 13, the oldest. he likes earth lemon demon and horror special effects
carrie, feferi and solluxs kid. shes like 11, likes dance dance revolution and earth 9s
rosie, calliope and roxys bab, whos a baby. jane is also her mom
ben, tippies far future carapacian bf, who likes boring shit like birdwatching and scrapbooking. malewife supreme. a very soft dude, and just wants to help his gf w/ her trauma and join her grubscout troop on earning badges. just a great, if boring guy
notkonyyl, just as unnamed, a notcanadian oliveblood who enjoys going to the gym, frequenting bars, being cool, flirty, and defending her moirail to the death
notkuprum, haha unnamed, is a human, and the moirail to notkonyyl. he likes things like being annoying, flirting with everyone taller than him ((most people)), the nintendo switch, and defending his moirail to the death

what're your thoughts on castlevania (the netflix show, not the game, ive never played the game) what do you like, what don't you like? make it as long as you want. i don't care if i have to scroll for 5 minutes. go feral (personally trevor is extremely hot and i would like to date sypha. i'm not really into alucard's whole sickly victorian child aesthetic, yknow?)
oh god this is way too long, but you did say to make it as long as i want, and i have a lot of thoughts that i need to inflict on the world
i played two castlevania games, both from the nintendo gameboy era, so please don’t get mad at me, gamers
details below the cut, but since i’ll be talking about season three, i need to preface this with content warnings for mentions of: graphic violence, rape and sexual violence, racism, and the holocaust
before i get into it, i usually don’t go for alucard-type characters either, but knowing that he was redesigned to be bishounen sexy specifically because the boring, middle aged man look he originally had in the games wasn’t appealing makes me enjoy him. and he’s fun with trevor and sypha
do like:
the voice acting
it’s all good. i can’t think of any characters whose voices were awkward or fit poorly. they don't make sypha’s va use the standard flat affect or false high voice women tend to be assigned, trevor sounds suitably worn out but not monotone, and alucard sounds exhausted but in a sexy way
and the spanish dub is killer, arguably superior
the animation & design
it isn’t full-on artsy, but it’s definitely got a distinctive style that’s easy to look at. the color use and effects are gorgeous. it’s a story set in the medieval era, and the mixture of desaturated and oversaturated elements works so well with that
dracula’s castle and the belmont bunker aren't revolutionary in design, but they didn't need to be. they're suitably creepy and empty, and i enjoyed them
the monsters were unique enough to have obvious different types, and the scene where a monster commits blasphemy in a church by accusing a priest of committing blasphemy was good writing
lisa
she shows up to a stranger’s spooky home and scolds him for being rude. she really looked an ancient vampire in the face, told him he had no manners, then had a kid with him. what a phenomenal woman. 11/10, no notes
“start with me, and i’ll start with you.” you know what? i’d fall in love, too
dracula
this ancient, unfriendly vampire let a human woman walk into his home and tell him he’s got no manners. and that made him fall in love with her. just like that. lisa walked in and handed him his ass, and dracula thought “oh i love her”. and when she was killed (more on this in the bad section), he raised literal hell to destroy the world for doing it
speaking of lisa being killed, it fucks me up that it happened because she convinced him to leave the castle and experience the world. he left her alone to see what she loved so much, only to come back and find that the people he’d come to like- the people lisa had loved so much it drove her to help in a way that got her killed- had burned her at the stake. i love a good tragedy, and that’s good tragedy
the way he weeps when he has to fight alucard?? during a showdown in their home?? the “i must already be dead” moment in alucard’s childhood bedroom??? when he speaks to lisa about killing their boy, her greatest gift to him??? poetic cinema.
the trio’s dynamic
three bisexuals with two total brain cells and only alucard bothers using them. incredible
i went so hard for this ot3. it's right there and so good
sypha
she initially seems to be assigned the role of the adult™️ ie she's the only woman and gets stuck being responsible, but surprise! she’s just as annoying and dumb as alucard and trevor. she dropped a castle she didn’t understand on the ground and didn’t think too hard about it. then she argued about breaking it. i love her
if we don’t get an ot3, then she needs to have a dumb gf
alucard
he's got a stupidly low neckline and lower pants. they really leaned into ayami kojima’s redesign, as they should have. his little curl annoys me, though. why the fuck does he have a random section of hair that’s like three inches long when the rest is shoulder length or longer? love that he really looks like lisa
if you say he's canonically bisexual and polyamorous, no he isn't. yes he is. no he isn't :)
trevor
disgusting. a nasty man whose appearance mirrors his state of mind. he's 50 mental illnesses in a dirty jacket and his coping mechanism is… alcohol? maybe? he’s a mess, and i dig it
him trying his trick of kneeing alucard in the balls during their fight? and finding out it doesn't work? (which…… why doesn't it……?) juvenile but suitable
hector
his love of animals makes him my favorite. normally, i won’t touch anything with this much animal death, but i’m willing to set that aside because hector loves them so much. he’s so sweet and kind, and he loves his monster pets
yes he sided with dracula and has some really fucked up ideas about what constitutes humane treatment of people, and yet i love him. 11/10, but i have a lot of notes
isaac
i support him, including his murdering and his decision to support dracula. dracula throwing him out of the castle to save him was so cruel in that it was an attempt at kindness from a man who hated the whole world, but it was against isaac’s wishes
his time with the captain was great
idk enough about islam to know if he's portrayed correctly and haven’t seen any complaints, but given the show’s track record……… i wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not great
the forging
very cool. fresh and interesting! hector creating pet friends is cute and heartbreaking. love isaac for his dedication to reducing, reusing, and recycling
season 2’s big battle with all those vampires
the new version of “bloody tears” is phenomenal
this goes back to the animation, but listen……. it's so good. i loved the smoke vampire, and alucard’s fluid wolf transformations. his flying sword looked really good, and incorporating them together? super good to watch. and trevor’s whip?
the type and level of violence are suitable for what it is. it would be weird for a gritty show like this to be bloodless, but i don't think it would work if it were bloody to the extent of a slasher. it's also more clean violence, if that makes sense. you don’t linger just to look at gore; you see it because stabbing someone spills blood. the games weren't about extended, gritty scenes of realistic murder, so the show sticking with quick, slice and dice type fights fit with what i remembered of them
please watch this fight if you don’t remember it or haven’t seen it (part 1, part 2)
trevor’s whips
trevor’s weapons don’t follow the physics of normal whips, and they shouldn't. they’re heavily stylized and clearly a fantasy weapon, but they still have rules that they (mostly) have to obey. his morning star-whip hybrid in particular is so good
it’s easy to follow, too. a lot of times, speedy weapons disappear, which is an understandable effect but one i find boring because there’s nothing for me to do. i’m just sitting on my ass with nothing to do
trevor’s whips don’t disappear. they’re fast, but you can always see them. and they have weight! you can see them slow down and gain speed. i don’t need physics to be real; i want movement to be pleasing, and that’s exactly what i get with the whips
don’t like:
fridging lisa
she could have been kidnapped (possibly make dracula think she was dead bc people want to lure out her scary demon husband, idk), then s2 could have ended with her and dracula reuniting as he died. she and alucard go on a trip together to attempt to make amends for the pain dracula wrought in lisa’s name. orrrr she dies a tragic death with him and we’re left to hope that they find each other in the afterlife. do vampires get to go to the afterlife? can alucard reintegrate? can he be happy with his new friends? or will he go back to his crypt and sleep again? will he ever be rediscovered? if so, what will he do? deep questions. i would prefer to cogitate on these instead of experiencing the shitshow that is s3
season 3
they should have ended it with dracula’s death. the quality of storytelling goes down immediately. just plummets. i’m sure there were problems in the first two seasons, but this one is so bad, i genuinely can’t remember
but i may as well get specific, so here we go:
abandoning alucard
trevor and sypha leave their friend alone in his childhood home where he just killed his father. where they helped him kill his father who, as i’ve said too many times, raised literal hell to get revenge for people burning alucard’s mother to death
yt they don’t talk about alucard. they don’t make any plans to touch base ever again. trevor’s entire family got killed. sypha’s culture, from which she’s now estranged, is family-centric. if ever two people should give a shit about alucard and know why alucard shouldn’t be left on his own, it's them
so what the hell is going on?
trevor and sypha’s relationship
look. it could be good. it would be better with alucard but they could be together and it could work fine
but this……….
trevor hates what they're doing. he hates traveling around and fighting. he's clearly tired and deeply depressed
sypha not only doesn't care enough to address it (did they forget the first two seasons?? sypha is annoying partly because she doesn't stop poking people) she might not even notice? yes, she's having fun, but trevor is basically dead on his feet in front of her
racism
hector, sumi, and taka all got done dirty
sumi and taka
i hate the way they died. i hate that i’m certain that the plot won’t bring japan back into the narrative (or if it does, i don’t trust it not to be shitty). i hate the fact that by killing them off, i’m not going to get any more of them. they were interesting!!
speaking of the japanese vampire: the biphobia, arguably, given what happens with alucard
the addition of sexual violence
i don’t need or want lenore. if all she’d done was manipulate hector, i could have lived with that. she’s a villain, so she does bad things. that’s the point. but what she did was a massive escalation. we hadn’t had any sexual violence, and then the last few episodes gave us
tumblr feminists who love her for how she treated hector need to be quarantined until their brain worms have been cured
everything that happens to hector
what was this shit? why did i open my netflix app and tap castlevania and find them making this man walk around naked in the cold to torture him? and starving him? he got manipulated, degraded, chained up, collared like an animal, and raped. and why? to show us how bad lenore is? that the other vampires are bad because they let her do it? i didn’t sign up for this
the holocaust reference
the imagery at the end of s3 when it’s revealed that the judge has been killing people he’s decided are undeserving to live and collecting their shoes in that barn was chillingly close to images of shoes taken from victims of the holocaust. there's no reason to invoke the holocaust here. it’s unnecessary and in bad taste
#asks#anonymous#long post#anti-castlevania netflix#i guess#cw rape#cw holocaust mention#cw racism#cw holocaust#all of these are tags i didn't anticipate using on my stupid sideblog#i'll probably find a bunch of typos in like 12 hours rip me#but i feel bad for taking so long

💙 Autism Trait Listing Time 💙
I am self-diagnosed as of now but I'm in the process of trying to get tested and my diagnosed friend said that a lot of what I told her lines up so it's likely I am autistic.
+ Constant Fidgeting: Bouncing of my leg, Tapping of my fingers - If I stop I am physically uncomfortable and tend to shake my ankle/foot or shake my wrist/hand
+ Sensory Oveload at Noise: Usually it's not the loudness of noise for me, but the overlapping of noises. Hearing a television play a show + someone talking + someone somewhere else talking etc. makes me get a headache and I sometimes feel like crying because I can't focus or really hear myself think.
+ Sensitivity to Sudden/Loud Noises: I flinch and startle at loud noises frequently- to the point in which it is noticeable by friends. If the bell goes off when I don't expect it to or the fire alarm I nearly fall out of my chair. If my dad raises his voice or if anyone gets upset and raises there voice I instantly assume they're yelling and tense up- even if they're just raising their voice a little.
+ Tactical/Texture Sensitivity: I detest certain textures and actively avoid them like cotton balls (which feel like how nails on a chalkboard sound), fennel/rosemary, any texture in drinks, nuts in bread, etc. in which my family has noticed and teased me over. Where as other textures I adore and constantly seek out like tree bark or soft fur like textures.
+ Stimming(?): I constantly pick at my skin and when I try to stop I can briefly before I go back to doing it without thinking because it's relaxing. I constantly play with the joysticks on my Nintendo Switch to help compensate and give my hands something to do. I use a fidget spinner sometimes as well to help relax and when I get anxious I use it more often cause the noise it makes and the action of spinning it is helpful. I also do the ASL (sign language) alphabet without thinking to myself just cause it's relaxing and when told to stop I get a bit anxious. I tap my fingers together repetitively a lot and my friends have noted this and have mentioned I tend to do it more when I'm stressed or bored.
+ Hyperfixation: I have the habit of finding something I like and then focusing on it violently. When I was a kid I would watch the same three movies (Newsies, Highschool Musical, and Hairspray) on repeat until I memorized the lines. I went through a phase where everyday I watched Total Drama for like half a year- I still remember the events of each episode. If I watch a video on a video game I have to look up the Wikipedia entry on it, read everything in the fan wiki, and watch video after video deconstructing the game until I'm satisfied. I'll listen to the same song for hours at a time for a week or more and then ramble about it to my friends. My habit of infodumping everything I know about a subject bothers my families and friends. I'll ramble for an hour about an idea I have for a play to a friend before realizing I haven't shut up cause I know most people don't care about minute things like I tend to.
+ Being a Kid: As a kid I was definetely the odd one out. I would hug everyone regardless of who they were, how close we were, or if they were receptive. I just had to hug people- I would get upset if I couldn't hug people. To this day I have stuffed animals I hug because I get anxious without the physical sensation of hugging after too long. I never seemed to be on quite the same wavelength and would stare people down just randomly, even I didn't really understand why I'd do it but I would just lock eyes with someone and not stop until they told me to. People would openly mock me and it would go over my head because I genuinely thought they were my friends and were being nice (I would get called werewolf due to my messy hair and sharp teeth and I would just smile and say I preferred being a vampire). I wore the same velcro shoes everyday until they wore out and demanded my mom buy the exact same pair. I'd cry whenever someone hurt my feelings even once I turned 10 and 11. I accidentally hurt my friends by punching them or pinching them cause I didn't realize how much I was hurting them until I drew blood or they demanded I stop.
+ Routine: I hate being late. I hate being on time. I have to be 10 minutes early to everything. If I have to be somewhere at 9 and its a 30 minute drive then I have to leave the house at 8 or 8:10. If it hits 8:11 and we aren't on the road I lose it. I cry and panic and I shake like a leaf until my dad starts the car. In elementary if we were even a second late I'd sob uncontrollably and panic. Now I still cry and shake but it's not as bad. I am an avid rule follower even when I know I'm being silly. My friends and I went to an abandoned building and I was anxious that we'd be arrested despite knowing people did it all the time and it was fine. I had to stay at school after hours for a project and I wouldnt stop worrying we'd get caught and expelled even though our teacher said we could. When I was like 8 or 9 I read about how not turning off your heater started fires so every day before I left for school I'd check to make sure the heater and oven were turned off three times each. Even if we'd never turned them on in the first place. I haven't been able to focus in online school without the structure of being physically in school no matter how hard I try. When my dad takes the family places last minute I feel unbearably anxious and out of it, even when I am aware I am overreacting. I have noticed executive disfunction issues in the past and when presented with multiple things I need to do I get overwhelmed and panic and do nothing instead. I hate clutter and in the desire to clean one item I end up deep cleaning everything just because I start one chore then think of another in the process and it spirals from there.
+ Misc: I have always been the sensitive emotional child. My mom frequently teases that I never get her sarcasm. I can't decipher how people feel unless I can hear their voice and see their face which makes texting and to a lesser extent voice calling anxious and weird for me. I actively avoid eye contact with people I don't know well and avoid conversation on elevators or in public spaces. I adore watching slime videos and stim boards are wonderful now that I've discovered them. Math isn't my strong suit because the numbers don't make sense to me- I can't decipher even simple algebra equations but I've always been great at reading and I pride myself on my vocabulary and way with words. Despite this I can't give speeches or explain things to save my life even if I know exactly what I mean and want to say I just cannot verbalize it properly so I have to write down exactly what I want to say before I say it. Even then I ramble too long and my dad frequently notes I can never "get to the point and trim out the unnecessary details" but like- I can't tell which details are necessary or not. I can never be presented a broad piece of information and understand it, I need every minute detail first otherwise I cannot understand the bigger concept and thus when I speak I provide every detail to make my point crystal clear. I also feel uncomfortable around authority figures and adults- way more than seems normal- and avoid eye contact and tend to be especially anxious and respectful because adults and authority figures just scare me.
These are all just like the immediate things that jump into mind + context around them. Idk if these could actually point to me being autistic but if anyone has any advice or help then please let me know. I'm kinda worried I'm being a hypochondriac but that might just be because my dad doesn't believe in autism so I'm internalizing that.
I've had close friends say some of my symptoms seem like anxiety or OCD but the texture based stuff and the fact that I have purposefully tried to stop stimming and fidgeting and have tried to repress my natural behaviors due to being seen as like weird and "off" makes me think maybe it might be autism and I just didn't realize because I assumed everyone dealt with similar things and I just was bad at handling it.
#autism#possibly autistic#asd#autism advice?#plz help i am very worried im overreacting and i dont want to talk to my parents unless im like 100% i have it
