TWST Process!

So I got a comment this morning asking if my Ignihyde piece was a Memoji---a thing I immediately had to google to even know what that means lol I'm not mad, no shade to OP but it really threw me for loop to be asked if my art is a customizable avatar.

I know this blog is mostly my fun little sketches or side projects but I am a professional artist! Even if this is a silly little side project to keep my brain from falling it the abyss, it's still my art I drew with my own hands and it's important to me for people to know that!

Process breakdowns below the cut! it's not very detailed but figured i'd be fun to show a peak behind the curtain!

First things first! I do all of these in Proceate on my iPad! These are very casual and just for me to have fun--I'm very burnt out after my associate art direction job on Hit Monkey so I'm just trying to give myself a tiny piece of joy so I can get myself back to drawing my web comic and merch for cons/my store.

I draw each dorm in their own file just to keep things from getting too cluttered. The group shots I do separately in another file. So I'll finish them, flatten them and paste them into another file to size them up together/add backgrounds/effects. I included screenshots to show the breakdown of the original drawings along with the group shot. Nothing too fancy. Also forgive all the unnamed layers x_x I am usually incredibly organized but typing on my iPad annoys me so I tend to not name Procreate layers. You can see where I thought about it by naming ONE layer.

Here is the timelapse for The Ignihyde boys! You'll notice I keep Ace+Deuce in the file--I use them as a base reference for the stylization. I stylize everyone a bit differently but I try to maintain some consistency. I also reuse some bits of their palette as a piece of that consistency. You can also see me go 'oh yeah Ortho's hip thing goes all the way around so we should see it behind him........oh no. nvm that looks bad.' lol

What was most important for me to sell with these two was the difference of their personalities. I was aiming for that 'Someone will die' 'of fun!!' vibe haha So I wanted Idia very compact and to himself while Ortho is energetic and friendly. I also wanted to bring some design elements of Hades face to Idia's face. His bangs cover it up but I gave him a long nose that starts right from his brow the way they stylize them in the movie. I also gave them more color to their skintone but kept Idia more ashen/desaturated--I liked the idea of him looking kinda grey to match Hades instead of just pale.

Here's the non-default brushes I use--Jingsketch brushes are available here and the free comic brushes I got from Di Brushes. I'm usually a default brush kinda person but Procreate's default textured stuff wasn't really doing it for me anymore. I really like using stuff that looks more like pencil or pastel. I've also been addicted to adding noise a lot to my pieces. I know that's not the most original thing in the world but idk, it looks cool. My group shots always get a layer of noise.

But yeah, that's it! These are purposely kept pretty simple so I can knock each one out in about two hours or so. More detailed dorm outfits obviously take longer--I hand drew all the patterns on the Pomefiore kids like a mad man. Every time I erased the edges, I went 'I should probably copy and paste this' and then never did. I love making things harder for myself lmao

Do you have any scrapped ideas or concept art/sketches?

i do currently have ideas going for the rest of the fallen archangels as well as lucifer in his dragon form, but i plan on posting them eventually once i get them finalized!! i don't really do character design the way i should and how professionals approach it, by going through iterations and making several alternatives to compare with one another - i instead just draw and redraw on the same sketch until i arrive at something i like ;o; like raphael and michael both went through quite a few changes until i arrived at their final designs, while uriel and lucifer changed very little from my initial idea of them. all i have right now are a ton of wips that may or may not ever be finished, so i'll show a couple of those!!

Darkness Lane by Joan Hassall [ x ] - the piece that most inspired my recent woodcut-style piece.

When I found out I was drawing for @gorgeousundertow's regency AU fic, Half Agony, Half Hope, as part of the @ineffableidiotsbigbang, I started looking up Jane Austen novel illustrations for inspiration and ended up finding some really cool art and websites! I'm posting about some of the images and resources I found because I think it may be interesting to others too (and even if it isn't, I'll have gotten the infodump out of my system haha).

The link above points to a gallery on pemberley.com which has deliciously old-school DIY website HTML and a wealth of Jane Austen illustrations, as well as references for regency clothing. This was where I discovered Joan Hassall's work and decided I wanted to do a woodcut style piece (and then subsequently regretted it many times during the process of making it because I had no idea what I was doing). The detail, visual texture and dramatic lighting in her work is so cool and I just got more obsessed the more I saw.

The gallery on pemberley.com also had a bunch of Charles Edmund Brock illustrations, which I could not get enough of and so returned to the searchpage and found Molland's Circulating-Library. SO COOL! Jane Austen fans have bought illustrated editions of her novels and uploaded scans of them and oh my gosh they are all so beautiful.

Side note about Henry Tilney (Catherines' love interest in NA), I also came across this old fan page for him from a mostly-broken-links-now site called THE CULT OF DA MAN and um it's great haha, check it out. (reviews of artists representations of him, more delicious HTML, and pixel art (!) of da aforementioned man)

There's also an article on Molland's about Charles and Henry Brock and their Jane Austen works that I found interesting. Charles is better known and did far more JA illustrations, but I do really enjoy Henry's tinted line pieces! (the article also dunks on some bad reproductions of them haha)

C.E. Brock also did really cool title pages and when I found out that fic banners were a thing I knew what I wanted to do! (with the help of the symmetry tool and undo haha, so much respect for traditional art)

So, research in hand/bookmarks folder and banner completed, I decided on a scene from Chapter 10 where our beloveds are standing beside the Thames in the moonlight after walking around London for hours together and talking (CUTE). I wasn't sure what buildings to include in the background, so @gorgeousundertow gave me a few suggestions: Old Southwark Bridge, London Bridge, Southwark Cathedral, and Clink Prison. I realized after a bit of sketching that bridges would be hard to show with the straight-on view I wanted to do, so I decided on the Cathedral, partially because I had also considered drawing a scene that takes place in Salisbury Cathedral in Ch. 7.

OK BUT HOW? I struggled finding reference images for a while until I realized this was LONDON and would be very Google Earth-able. Big ups to Frank Cosgrove, whoever they are, for uploading this haha. This was also where I found out that all the suggestions were from a very small area!

The building in front of the cathedral looked too new, so I went searching for an older image and found the second image. It's a completely different angle but it was enough to get me past the 'oh no idk what do'.

While looking for images of the Thames pre-Google Earth, I also found this website called Dictionary Of Victorian London which has a whole bunch of old images and excerpts from newspapers, etc on a variety of topics. One of the categories, Sex > 'unnatural offences', had this excerpt from The Times (1863), which reads:

Thomas Lane, a coffeehouse keeper, No.9, Love-lane, Eastcheap, city, and James Mortimer, a seaman, were charged with unlawfully meeting each other to commit an unnatural offence. ... The Magistrate committed both prisoners for trial.

Ugh. I hate that so much. Some sexy stuff happens right after the moment I'd chosen, and reading that reminded me that such things would be much more comfortable and safe in darkness (or if ppl just stopped being homophobic, but barring that). I wanted them to feel alone, like the whole world was asleep and it was just them, outside of time.

With that in mind, the iconic Thames Walk Lamp had to go bye bye, and when rendering the background I tried to minimize any light - it's just the suggestion of buildings. I also added tree cover! I tried to imitate how Joan Hassall does trees in some of her artwork, but when she rendered trees like this they were usually farther away/smaller, so my version looks more stylized with how prominent they are.

The ribbon border and book quote presentation is of course more Brock, but by making it black and having the interior image use it as a border instead of a fade-out inside it, I made it a bit of a reference to the very cool foliage edges you see in the very first Hassall image at the top.

I used the procreate brushes from this post on the Procreate Folio forums if anyone wants to try them!

Also fun fact! The font for the quote is called Chanson D'Amour <3 (I initially downloaded it when making the banner before changing the banner font to one called Dark & Black)

Thought this was a good card for Malenia since so much of her story is about tragedy and loss- each time her flower blooms, she dies a bit more (but once she is finished, she can perhaps finally be free).

look, when a boss ass valkyrie looking lady impales your character on her wicked sword that is also a prosthetic limb enough times, you have no choice but to stan and make fan art of her :)

this was one of those pieces that just burned itself into the back of my brain until i drew it all out. Idk if i'll do a series of elden ring tarot cards or if this is stand alone (absolutely not promises, my partner suggested a wider video games one which might hold my attention longer, we shall see). The fact that she's associated with butterflies helps a lot too (also one of my favorite design tropes which is "a thing made of a swarm of other things, esp insects, birds or rats").

idk why lately all the fan art i want to do is elden ring, i think it's partially b/c i play with my brother a lot (he's already beaten it and LOVES the soulsborne games) and he lovingly relates all the lore to me.

this is perhaps my favorite way to obtain lore, tbh, like just have someone else tell me a story about it (it's different to me than having to find it/read it in game yourself). Also even though I wanted to draw it (obviously), I knew it would *delight* him so there's that too. That's the best part of fan art really, like yes the art's partially for me but it's also for someone else (knowing that someone else will be excited about it helps a lot)

4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw Ohhh my god idk if this counts but I love HANDS I think they're so sexy and I've dedicated SO much study to them, probably more than anything else. I'm always trying to hone in on a stylization and rhythm that feels good for them but I just asdkfjs aim high I guess so it never feels quiet where I want it to be. I know hands are infamously hard to get right so I try to cut myself some slack... one day I'll get there...!!

9. What are your file name conventions So, I'm pretty anal about my file organization, I go by folder moreso than file name, but usually I try to name an image with at least the name of the character and one other descriptor. But where I'm EVIL is that in my usual process every few days I make a new file called "doodles mm-dd-yyyy" and stick it in a big "doodles" folder. And I do all my warmups and ideating in there, and half the time I just finish a piece in it's entirety inside that doodle document??? Which is bad for resolution/aspect ration purposes, but what's the WORSE is that half the time I don't even crop and export the image?? Especially if it's just a sketch or a WIP. I just. take a screen grab of it so I can send it to my main discord server??? Like so many drawings of mine are only found in these tiny crunchy images hosted on discord which is soooooo diabolical I have to get better about it asdlkfjs

21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways Ahh I always admire people who can do really tight/polished cell shaded styles with very clean lines, but I don't think it's something I'd love doing for myself. The type that you typically see in comics or like, fanmerch. I have a tendency to get veryyyy lost in the details and will spend way too long on lineart, and half the time I just turn my sketch into my lines anyway because I tend to overwork it lsdkfjs

24. Do your references include stock images Mmm it depends on what I'm looking for! I actually take a lot of my own ref images for poses cause often what I need is pretty specific sdlkfsj there's so many awkward and unflattering images of me in my camera roll because of it :P For bigger pieces for clients, espc when I'm doing design work, I often make reference boards with pureref and if I'm grabbing stock images that's where they'll go. Usually they're of specific lighting scenarios or refs for costumes or props! I like to have lots of refs together in those cases so that I'm getting more of an amalgamation instead of pulling from one specifically.

These are my base colors, but I guess I just felt like spending a couple hours with color overlays and fucking around to make the final moody blue version lol

as an aside the bokeh is a brush by Bunabi/Eriart which you can find as a freebie on her patreon - i saw it and was like omg wait i could use that

Felicia's outfit is a mix of sources, inspired by both her original costume, with the furry chest (in this case unzippable) as well as obviously more modern sexy latex outfits and so on... but i did NOT give her cleavage to her bellybutton cause I think that's dumb. though. to be fair in this case it would be more justifiable 😂

I also drew Peter in the classic suit, which I don't normally do, but I was doing more of the comic book look here instead of my own AUs and so on lol

this new pen tablet is a lot of fun, it's way more comfortable to draw on and the increased pressure sensitivity makes it a lot easier to draw my favorite thing to draw: peter's arm hair 😂😂

the only weird thing is if I press down medium or harder while I'm drawing it... creaks? which is very funny, my old pen did not do that. it really is weirdly like using a felt tip pen or a very fine point marker. except it's plastic.

shoes. it may be classic style but I can never resist giving Peter sporty soles lol I know some people hate that but I just think it looks nice and I can handwave the sticking away as electrostatic forces or something. negative charge. electron transfer. blah blah blah. (in my AU i decided Peter has both electrostatic sticking that encompasses his whole body and ALSO adhesive secretions so if he gets his hands and feet bare i guess he has double the sticking power lol)

also if you're wondering why i didn't give peter a boner to match his red face well i have an out and it's that long ago i decided he wears a dance belt under the costume so as not to inflict the outline of his dick and balls on the people of NYC on a daily basis, and dance belts are first of all designed as mentioned to smooth out and hide that outline but also you wear them with everything pointing north and the waistband is like 5 inches wide so i don't think he has to worry about his little buddy escaping LOL (though I'm sure it's possible it would be more visible... i didn't bother trying to google it lol)

1. how would you describe your art style? uhhhhhhhh, maybe "safe" is the word rn. whenever I think of my art style, what comes to mind is just how little I've been pushing things with it. I wanna change that ;D

2. what's your favorite thing about your style? I realize I like to use semi-realistic proportions, its cool how comfortable I've gotten with drawing faces and bodies

3. what's your least favorite thing about your style? It's so static man. same thing I said for the first question, I don't think anything really looks bad, but it just is lacking in creativity in comparison to the older art that should be looking worse than what I do now. I prefer my older stuff ;D (looking at you inktobertale2021.. where did it all go wrong)

4. favorite thing to draw? regular ol people. human characters are def more in my comfort zone, which explains why I keep hitting skeletons with the humanization ray (also I prefer to draw feminine characters)

5. least favorite thing to draw? I can't even say I rlly dislike it cuz of how rarely I even do it, but I am procrastinating so hard on learning backgrounds..

6. warm colors or cool colors? cool colors are my fav, but i find it easier to work with warm ones (I used to put a cool overlay over all my warm toned drawings hgdhfg)

I'll have like 276478923 wips started, and then I get a random idea that I just have to do right at that moment, and I'll get it done in like 1-4 hours. meanwhile old sketches start to rot and maybe if its lucky I'll revisit it before my motivation dies and my style is too different to wanna continue from where I left off 14. digital or traditional? digital all the way, i've gotten too dependent on the transform tool + liquefy ;D (and many other things tbh but I'd be here all day if I tried comparing them more jhdjdf)

15. if digital, what program do you use? procreate, the layouts on other drawing programs scare me

Idk if I'll get around to finishing these sketches but I do like some of them quite a bit so I figured I'd do a sketch dump kind of thing. Here are all unposted GW2 related sketches I've done within the last 2 years in no particular order:

Pretty detailed sketches of Rhixak and Prim. I wanted to do fullbody drawings of these two but Idk if I'll get around to doing them. They look pretty nice on their own though.

A couple messy sketches of Mib & Vizzis, as well as a more detailed one of Nise. That boy sure loves violence.

Gwizz realizing how gay he is for Lucanus. Drawing charr is so hard... Having a hard time translating them to my artstyle..

Sketches of how Corrow's body would look like under his armor. Something along these lines.

Figuring out how Kos would look like. His magitech eye stuff mainly. Also how he was when he first re-entered society, wrapped in rags.

Also Rix's outfit design. Pretty mad scientist type stuff but with a sexy twist. The labcoat ends in a loincloth type thing and there are no pants in the outfit. I mean he does wear some kind of underwear under there but yeah. He has various other outfits as this is not at all lab safe in actuality, it's just his favourite to wear on free time.

A sketchpage of various characters. Couple lines for Corrow. Sketches from before I figured out how he would look like under the armor. Possibly how his hair was back when he had hair.

Secondly we got a very rough sketch of a new character, a mordremvari named Ru. Well, he can't really remember anything before waking up free of Mordremoth.

He thinks his name starts with Ru, but can't remember anything else, so he just goes by Ru now. Still figuring out his design but I wanted to sketch out the basic idea, though I kinda ran out of energy while drawing it.

I've gotten Ru up to level 80 but I need to work to get one more piece of armor skin unlocked for him before his ingame look is complete so until then!

Procreate. Never got the hang of it and I like to use it for animation instead.

I often draw characters facing to the right or left because drawing in the front can get a bit confusing for me, since many of the characters I draw have some sort of complication in their designs I need to spend extra time on when drawing them.

Idk. I guess you consider a very small detail that's part of the art style that I've had since I technically started my art.

Bella, Scar, and Annie. I love them to death but I often have trouble keeping their scars consistent between drawings.

I post most of my art online since I do usually post daily. There are a few drawings I keep for myself, but those are usually just sketches.

I know a lot of art styles from artists I use to like have served as unintentional inspiration for how I draw and parts of my style.

Rug art. spay painting, painting, embroidery, really any art that isn't digital. I would love to do those someday, but all the physical labor is difficult and I have a huge respect for people that do art like that.

I got a few, but making comics has always been a huge difficulty when I try to actually finish one. There's one piece I love about how it turned out, but it's actually an unfinished comic. I also have trouble making huge pieces that include more than 4 to 5 characters all interacting with each other.

Just put a and the number after that so when I upload a file of my art it shows at the front of my files. Makes my job easier since I upload on 4 different sites and I also try to share my art frequently

Robes/dresses. Long, don't take that long, can just be one color.

I usually listen to podcasts, videos, or playlists with music from Youtube. I got too many things to watch/listen to, so it all works out.

The entire face/head. Been practicing for years.

A few artists that I use to follow had lovely art, but the vibe of the art wasn't something I wasn't exactly fond of.

Depends on the piece and what story it may tell. So not exactly, but maybe in the future I'll figure out what motifs I like.

Anywhere lol. Home, in public, standing, sitting, laying down, doing a back kick on a kid, as long as I can hold my tablet with minimum shaking, I'm fine drawing anywhere.

Flipping the canvas. I love to see how much I've improved with how both sides look, but it kinda sucks since I'm not used to it and it takes up more time when I'm drawing.

Yep! Anything really as long as I can munch/sip on while drawing.

Had a tablet of mine broken by someone else. I try to be very careful with my stuff since it's all expensive.

Flowers and pillows. Means it's usually a simple, happy piece!

Hands, the other eye, doing a fullbody. I mean, I did work hard to master those things, which I am proud of!

Semi/realistic art. Whether it can still be considered cartoon art or not, I love those ttyposstyles, and I can only hope that with time and practice, I can also develop a style like that.

I've entered into a few thumbnail contests for MAPs and I am currently in a zine. I've also been part of a few collabrotions that are still kinda in the works.

A lot cartoons watch inspire me to create, but not as specific inspiration for my art.

The piece below isn't underrated itself, I just love showing it around like a parent with their kid. It's just fun to show a piece I genuinly shows my ability as an artist.

So, I was in a good mood and I couldn't sleep, so I decided "Y'know, my AU has been giving me insane brain rot lately. I should really go do those concept designs!" My mood very quickly diminished by the 3 hour mark.

So just to preface, since these are concept designs they're all on the same body type and blank pose, as all three of them have different body types and sketching out all three of them would've actually made me go looney, also they're headless like all outfit design concepts should be

So let's start with the easiest design; N!

Her design is relatively the same as their canon outfit, just with his over shirt being transformed into a coat. The collar be more loosened to symbolise a more laid back kind of personality, and her turtle neck extending to their hands simply because I like it. Other than all that, she's the same, nothing to really note

Now we're going into a bit more of a complex design; Ghetsis

I'll admit I had some fun with this. A long dynamic coat to symbolise his incredibly dramatic personality, along with a faux corset to symbolise nobility in his iconic colouring. Flared pants simply because I like it and gloves for obvious reasons, the belts simply exist to be dramatic, they don't actually have a working purpose. Big pockets because he carries around too much stuff, and of course the plasma insignia.

His outfit is very covered, to show his modesty but also to hint as his body image issues that I won't elaborate on right now. However I did notice this left me without a section to colour with his skin tone, so I just slapped it above the turtle neck even though it basically covers his neck.

Now let's get to the problem child that had me dreading the end run of this; Alder

Do you remember that post you made about making designs more complex than a tshirt and pants gives you a hernia? I felt that, I felt that so far into my bones. If you look closely you can see the point where I just fucking gave up at getting it in the lines.

The fur is designed to give off more of a "look at me, obviously I'm important" sorta vibe. Also his front piece on his poncho on the canon design being switched to be on his back is to symbolised a "flipped" personality. Sun charm because I heavily associate him with the sun, wrappings around his hands and feet because he used to punch things too much but now he finds the pressure of the wrappings comforting, and the ones around his feet are because he literally never wears shoes. In his defence though he stayed in his room basically all of his life, you don't wear shoes in your room, at least I don't.

The moment I draw this bastard genuinely outside of concepts I may actually perish, this bastard gave me more of a headache than you could possibly imagine. But a complex design shows a complex character in a way, god I fucking hate drawing fur

YEAAAHHH WOOOO THESE ARE GREAT . im a big fan of alders specifically i think you did great. also dw about the bodies i do the same, i have a little doll i use as a base when i need to design shit. agent mara and bau penny were made with the same base LMAO (still need to finish bau penny </3 but exact same problem, making outfits is torture. he's actually THE reason i made the hernia post his outfit has been a fuckging nightmare SIX HOURS OF WORK AND I STILL DONT HAVE A DESIGN I LIKE)

n is very cute though and i like the sorta glove thing going on. n with gloves or any kind of hand wrap really makes me 🥺😳 idk what it is.

ghetsis's coat is REALLY fucking cool ugh<3 love the warm tone on the base color. although ghetsis i will admit the eye pattern might make folks mistake you for a villain again /lh

and again alders is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 literally straight fire i think it's so great. i love the emblem especially and the colors all come together fantastically it's just 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 WOOOOO YEAH. can't wait to draw these mfs when i feel human again

2023 Art Recap

Every year I like to look over an art piece from each month and go over what I like and don't like about it as well as how my art has changed over the year. Also I consistently posted my art on tumblr for a whole year which has never happened before I think

January

It's weird seeing SVO stuff after making the decision to reboot it like a month later. I don't know what is going on here perspective and anatomy wise this piece is just bad.

February

The only piece of Tome art I drew this year, SVR has kept me busy. After doing so much character design this year I look back on some of these designs and think about ways I could make them better but that will have to wait. I don't have to much to say considering this is just a sketch page.

March

I still really like this, It's not my favorite but I like the motion. I think the design and anatomy could be better but I'm just glad I made something considering my biggest issue this year was just not making things.

Nothing! Actually it's all just beta designs for SVR most of which are outdated at this point and contain spoilers so I don't want to post them, sorry.

Mermay art, Idk what to say, its fine. The shadows on the skin look more like light which doesn't look awful but It's a pretty obvious mistake

I'm a big fan of bright cool colors if you couldn't tell. I wonder if next year I'll play with Aria's design more, I feel like I nailed her design pretty early. I hope to have the comic up next year though so I might not.

I had not original art here's a study that I did. It doesn't look much like the original and kinda sucks but the point of a study is to get better so it's fine I guess.

August

Where's that Gordan Ramsey "wheres the light source" image I think it really applies to this image. Idk why I decided to draw an image with so many light sources when I already struggle with that.

I joked about how the shading on this sucks but honestly I kinda like how it turned out. I have no idea how I ended up doing this and have been trying to figure out how to redo and have failed every time.

October

Backwards hands. Well not really but they're in a really uncomfortable position. I had a lot of fun with this piece but I think that's just because It's Saph and I love her.

November

PFP redraw, I don't actually draw wren that much which is why their design hasn't changed in years. This piece also has the shadows being way to bright because I really wanted to use purple. My brand I guess.

December

This piece destroyed me, I started it during finals as a way to de-stress but it escalated. I do love it though (probably because I spent 12 hours on it) I said last year that 2023 was going to be the year I worked on backgrounds and I just decided to cram all of that into this one piece.

Goals for next year are to start publishing SVR (I'd like to finish act I but knowing me that isn't going to happen)

How did you get to where you are?

I know the easy and immediate answer- practice. Drawing often, drawing daily, and pushing yourself for years. It’s the answer every artist gives and that’s fair, because it’s true.

But how did you keep pushing through? I hate what I make. It’s so hard to just ‘keep practicing!’ when the results are so disappointing. It’s hard to keep at it when I look at page after page of work I’m not proud of. Did you ever feel like this? And what’s the answer if you did? How do I push through this frustration and inadequacy to be able to draw for my own enjoyment and for others’? I want to make comics, I want to make fanart, I want to make art for the sheer enjoyment of it. But I look at my reference and then at my creation and it’s so hard to keep at it.

Is there any advice you could give? Was there anything that helped you if you ever felt this way?

well first off - I don't recommend drawing daily. Tbh I don't. I don't think I ever have unless I was really excited to draw every day but if I don't feel like drawing I usually dont lmfao. You can try scribbling a bit and see if it sparks something in you but I wouldn't push it. You'll just burn yourself out over nothing. But tbh my answer might not be what you're looking for because it's not something that is necessarily healthy lol

WELL okay - one thing that might be helpful is just the concept of letting go of what you think is perfect and that "FINISHED is better than perfect" Because things will never be perfect. So you just gotta learn to work with what you got in that moment and try to do better next time.

But yeah - I feel like my work isn't good enough a lot (not always and not as much as I used too but that's just a thing for artist is the periods of time when your eyes are working better for you than your hands are.) I graduated from animation school in 2011, didn't get into animation, had a job at a call center and thought that was the worst thing that I'd ever done. Worked as a freelance artist for 10-ish years ( childrens books and graphic design) and 99% of that time I didn't draw fan art until Heather's literally took a chunk out of my brain for a year in 2017 and then I joined the WEBTOON contest for Muted in 2019. But if I didn't finish my work then I............ didnt' eat. lmfao. Not like I would starve myself but art was literally my job and i didn't have an alternative to NOT doing it- it was the only way that I got paid. If I spent time making everything perfect then I wouldn't be able to meet my deadlines - and I found very quickly that things that I overthought and tried to make 'perfect' were things that people generally liked LESS (this isn't always the case but I found that to be the way)

So I will say this- idk how old you are - but you're probably young. Even if you're 30 ... you're young. I think a lot of people don't really realize just how much time there is... and things will keep growing and changing the more you do them.

The downside of my method is of course that I can't NOT treat art like a job anymore. It's very rare for me to set time aside to draw "for fun" as opposed to drawing "for work" but I am in a good place now where my work-art IS fun art (i like drawing muted stuff)

I'll recommend an exercise I recommended to someone else the other day - just because I suffer heavily from over working pieces sometimes - try for speed for a while.

I'd encourage you to maybe just sketch a handful of your ideas between 10-30 minutes and then after you are done sketching pick which one you are most excited to work on to keep developing on in that moment key word being - the one you're most excited to work on- not the one you think people will like most. Work on it for an hour - still excited to work on it? no? Wrap up some finishing touches and call it done. DONE not "WIP", wrap it up and put a bow on it. There is always next time :) cuz even if you don't like how it looks now - if you like the concept?? you can keep it and come back to it in a couple years and redraw it and see how you've improved since then and see how you can build on your original idea!

Armoni's pov

I got up early cause I didn't want y/n to kill Shinsou for letting me drive. I have my permit and all but I still have to take my drivers test... again. Y/n doesn't trust me with the car but shes gonna have to give in soonnn.

I go into the living room and they not there anymore

So I go to Shinsou's room to get him. "SURPISE SHAW.." He wasn't in there. The last place he could be thats inside the house is y/n's room. 'God please let me going here and know that nothing happened last night even though I want a niece not yettt' I think in my head while putting my hands together.

I slowly opened the door. 'please please pleaseee' I slowly open my eyes and they are fully clothed and only facing each other "THANK THE GODS!" I accidentally yell out waking up Shinsou.

"Wtffff Armoni."

"Damn, what happened to hey, hello, good morning." I say. "Waiting in living room ill be ready in a little bit.

Shinsou's pov

I slowly slip out of y/n's bed and go to my own room and hop in the shower, brush my teeth, fix my hair and get dressed. After I finished I grabbed my keys and put on my shoes. "Lets go." I say to Armoni

"I would have let you drive y/n's truck but you know how she is." I say "Yea i know" Armoni said adjusting the seat. "Check it out so I have a automatic so you dont have to worry about all that fancy stick shift shit you thought was finna happen when you got in. Nope." I explained to Armoni everything he needed to know. "No music til you drive a mile" I say. Armoni pulled out the parking spot and out he garage and started driving.

"Damn you actually drive good." I say to Armoni. "I know its just my sister." We started driving toward y/n's parents house to take Armoni home and so I could make it back home so me and y/n could go to Sero's shop.

Y/n's pov

I wake up and get in the shower not really acknowledging the fact that Shinsou and Armoni were gone out the house. The quiet was nice. I stepped and wrapped a towel around my body and staring to brush my teeth. I heard the front door open. I walk out my bathroom into my room to peek out the door.

"Oh your woke now?." Shinsou says. I tolled my eyes and  closed my door back to get dressed.

I did my hair the same way I did it last night then grabbed my wallet and keys and walked out the room "We taking your car?" I ask Shinsou. "Yea." He responds. I out on my shoes and we walk out the door.

We pulled up to a tattoo shop that had a sign that said '4RT' "You ready?" Shinsou said. "Wait they open?" I say. The shop looked like no one was there even though there was four cars outside besides ours.

"Naw they not open." Shinsou said side eyeing me. I rolled my eyes and got out the and Shinsou did the same.

We entered the shop and heard low music playing. "Yoooo Shinsou!" I heard Sero yell from down the hallway. "Is that the beautiful y/n?" Denki said following behind Sero. Shinsou side eyes Denki and Denki puts his hands up like this '✋🏽😐🤚🏽'

"What tats do yall want?" Sero asks. "Ima get this." Shinsou says showing Sero the picture.

"Still a minimalist I see." Sero says joking around. "And you?" Sero resumes pointing to me. "Oh I was thinking something like this."

"Thats niceee." Sero says. "Ok I'll do y/n and you can get Shinsou." Sero says to Denki. Denki nods and leads Shinsou to his area and I got Sero's. "This your first tat or nah?" He asks. "Nah." I says showing him the dragon tattoo behind my ear that goes on to my shoulder. "Thats dope as fuck." Sero says starting the sketch for your tattoo.

Sero finished the sketch and started apply the stencil (yall know the little thing they put on the you before they actually tattoo..yea that.)

Sero turned on some music (the song at the top played first) and started tattooing. At first it hurt but soon you got use to it. "You ok?" Sero asked. "Yea." You say looking back at you phone.

~Time skip~

You here the door of the shop open. You saw a pink haired girl rush passed the room you and Sero were in. Eventually peeking her head in ti the room "Im here Sero they kept me late at the mall my bad... Y/N?!"

"Heyyoo." You say smiling at her. "We have to talk after your done ok?" She says. You nod your head at her and she skipped away. You lay your head back vibing to the music trying to ignore the pain.

"Ok Cool Kami.." Shinsou says walking into the room. "Y/n... holy shit." You look up at Shinsou then look down at the tattoo and back at Shinsou "what." You ask. "I should have let you pick my tattoo."

You raise your eyebrows and formed an straight like with your lips then nodded your head up and down slowly. "Im gonna wait in the lobby ok?" Shinsou says "ok." You say. Shinsou walks out the room and you look back down at you phone.

Shinsou's pov

I walk into the lobby and sit close to ok the desk and talk to Mina and Denki. "And bro she was like..." Denki was saying then pointed to where he was looking at.

'Woah' I see a girl come through the door." Hey! Welcome to Art. How may I accommodate you today." Mina days with a smile. "Hiii I had made an appointment." The girl says. "What was the name?" "Camie." She says.

"Alright, you can sit over there..." Mina said pointing over by me. "and Denki will be with you in a moment." Mina finishes. "Hey hottie whats your name." The girl says to me. "Shinsou. And yours?" I say looking at her.

"My names Camie." She says. "Hold on." She says getting up. She comes back with paper and a pen. "Camie?" Denki says to her. "Here." She whispers to me and hands me a piece of paper then follows Denki. I looked her up and down looking at her outfit. She winked at me before disappearing into the hallway. 'Damnnnnnn'

"Finally out that fucking chair got damn." Y/n says stretching while walking into the lobby.

"Thats one hell of a grin Toshi." Y/n says making the "😏" face. "Hush and let me see." I say.

Y/n's pov

I show Shinsou my tattoo. "Im just fye like that." Sero says. I chuckle and start walking to pay. But Shinsou stops me "I'll pay." He says. "But.." "unt uhn." I roll my eyes and step back.

"Alright I'll see you guys." Shinsou says walk towards the door. "Byeeee" I say going after him. "Wait!" I go back in the shop. "Heres my number Mina facetime, text, call, or what ever. And we can talk." I say writing it down. "Ok! Bye Y/n!" I wave at her walking out the door and running ti the car.

"Alright I'm ready."

We get back to the apartment and I flop down on my bed. "Sooo tireddd." I say. I pick up my computer and check how many orders we had 'its not that bad' i think to myself closing my computer and putting it back on my nightstand.

I walk out my room to go mess with Shinsou but when I got closer to his room he was... giggling? I held in my laughter and knocked on his door. "Yo Toshi you hungry?" I say through the door. "Yea hold on." He responds back.

20 minutes later

Shinsou's pov

"Ok what did yo..." I say. 'This mf really fell alseep in 20 minutes' I think to myself. I pick y/n up and put her in her bed.

I walk into the kitchen and ordered y/n's f/f for her and something for me.

Camie🤍: i wanted to know if you wanted to hang out tonight and get to know each other?

I walk downstairs to let Camie in. "Hey handsome." She said and kissed me on the cheek. We went back to the apartment and into my room. "I'll be back." I say walking out the room. "Hey Shinsou." Y/n says waving at me while walking out her room.

"Hey, Your foods in the fridge." I say. "Thank you." She says hugging me then warming up her food and going back to her room. I cut off the lights in the living room and a leave the one above the sink on. Then I go back to my room with Camie.

I go back to my room and watch tv and start packing orders. Sometimes I do orders by myself just for some me time (play if you let me by sinead harnett).

I finished eating and went to throw my stuff away. I got in the shower did my skincare and brushed my teeth. 'I should just chill out in my room.' I think ti myself while getting out the shower and drying off.

I put on some spandex shorts and a hoodie. The pull out my sketchbook to make more designs.

I've been sketching for about a hour so i go to see if Shinsou wanted to watch a movie but as I got closer to the door i hear moans getting louder. 'No, he did not.' I thought to myself. I go to the living room and just turn on the tv and watch a movie alone in the dark.

About an hour late I hear him coming out the room. "That was sooo nice." I hear a girl say. She come out of the hallway where Shinsou's room is. "Who are you?" She says.

"I'm y/n." I say. "Shinsou there's a girl out here. Maybe your roommate has her over." She says.

'Is she-' "wait whats your name?" I ask her

"Camie." She says "oh, do you know Todoroki?" I say "yes i know him." She says kind of with a attitude. "Ohhh I remember youu. Aren't you his ex." She said.

"Alright are you... hey y/n." Shinsou said. "Really Hitoshi." I say getting up. "Of all the people in the world HER." I say. "What are you talking about y/n."

"You know what im talking about Hitoshi. Or do you not remember why your own best friend broke up with her boyfriend." I say. Shinsou looked like his heart dropped to his ass.

"Two years down the fucking drain for what!" i yell as Ace comforted me. "N/n you have to calm down a little." Ace says. i layed in my bed under my cover with my music blasting. My parents were on a business trip and my brother was at our Aunts house.

Me, Ace, and Shinsou heard someone knock on the door so I go to open it. "Y/n i'm sorry! It all happened so fast and I was drunk." Todoroki says. "DRUNK MY ASS SHOTO! YOU NEW WHAT THE FUCK YOU WERE DOING AND IT WASN'T A ACCIDENT." I say yelling. "Hey Y/n I got this go chill out." Shinsou says pulling me back.

I step back and then I look at his car and she was in there. I push both boys out the way and walk to the car. I snatched the door open and pulled her out the car. "SO YOU FUCKING LOVE ME RIGHT?! YOU WANT ME BACK HUH?! BULLSHIT SHOTO GET YOUR SHIT AND GO. IM DONE. AND AS FAR AS I KNOW ONCE YOU OUT YOU DICK IN HER WE WERE DONE SO GET YOUR SHIT AND LEAVE."

Todoroki grabbed Camie from you and got her back in the car. "Im sorry ill leave.".

"Say some slick shit again Camie. I fucking dare you. I will do something I didn't get to do then. Cause i dont give a fuck now. Ima let you go this is what you do to avoid getting your ass beat. Get your bag, keys, and shoes and get the fuck out this house and never come back." I say. She nods and I let her go.

Camie runs and gets her stuff and leaves the apartment. "Wtf Y/n." Shinsou says. "You know she was just gonna be a hit and kick anyway so im saving her the heartbreak." I say walking to my room. "Thats not the point y/n you didn't have to do that."

Shinsou said

"THEN WHATS THE POINT HITOSHI?!" I say. "THE POINT IS THAT YOU BROUGHT UP STUFF FROM A LONG TIME AGO." Shinsou argues back. "you know i tried to ignore the fact that you brought the girl that he cheated on me with." I say calmly. "but dont argue back. i dont want to waste your breath on this. and just to tell you ill leave for the night to give you some time to yourself." I say walking away to my room.

When I get into my room I feel and tear come down my face as i get out some overnight clothes. I text Mina to see if she was free.

Ok jewelry project time <3 (btw I dont know jewelry terms in english bcs my class is in frenh so sorry for the word vomit lol)

First off base info; this is our first actual personal project. We had sketches to do and make it approved by one of the teachers. I spent like maybe 8 hours on the sketches?? I hated everything i did until I realised I could take the easy route and work on something that already exists <3 plagiarism for the win. (Oh gods please dont take that out of context-- this is a joke!!!!)

So anyways here are my sketches

I went with the little thing in the first pic, bottom left. It's based on the neck thing the maids and butlers wear in Fire emblem fates!!! But I had to add stones to it so it looks more fancy ehehehehehheh >:3C

Next I had to choose GEMS 😩👌🏻 the ones we had access to were my teacher's old synthetic stones but they're really as pretty!! Here are my picks, arranged where they would actually go on the finished piece!! (plus another, cleaner sketch)

My choice of color is actually based on Hubert von fire emblem 3h. Because I actually decided to make this thing because of a butler Hubert I drew (please don't ask why, it's a long story hdksjsksjks), so might as well respect the design. Also idk those colors just look pretty together and I didn't wanted to use white stones like everyone else in class :V

Ok next is the technical stuff!!! When I was done with all that, I had to make a "projection othogonale" (fancy way to say technical drawing, i guess??) and a "devis de fabrication" (that's just writting down the steps I gotta do lol)

You can't really see my projection but what you CAN see is how I wrote my devis before doing the drawing and also how actually stupid I am <3 here's to hoping the teachers won't actually read over my step by step bdjsjsksjsksj 💀
