months ago i started writing a thing that involved comparing cloud to a silkie chicken chocobo whenever he gets rained on, and then you did an art at some point that had a silkie chicken chocobo, which, DELIGHTFUL!! i still think about it a lot. then today i was editing that thing i wrote which had me circling back around to rotate silkie chicken chocobo in my mind again. do you think they're like. mostly for show or kept as pets and not used in racing or farming? do you think some varieties of chocobo tend to be super good at, idk, agility courses in the same way as border collies? do you think that carnivorous chocobos exist?

...what do you think they call a 'ponytail' in ff7 since ponies don't exist? although, i guess they sorta do - eligor and odin both have "horses", i guess, but that's still not ponies.

if we're drawing comparisons to real life silkies then they're definitely just for show and as pets. and since they're usually pretty friendly around people they might make good training chocobos for little kids learning to ride! i would love to see other breeds that are specifically bred for technical skills like obstacle courses and sports.

I absolutely believe that chocobos are omnivores. look at those talons and that hooked beak. they'll eat just about anything (including small rocks to aid with digestion LOL).

I am on the fence about the existence of horses in the ffvii universe. the phrase "hold your horses" gets used more than once to my knowledge; and between eligor and odin, as well as the implications of the TEXAS sign in tifa's bar in the OG, I propose the following theory:

In the FFVII universe, Texas is a fairytale land full of mythical four legged creatures called "horses" (and their comically smaller versions, "ponies") which people ride like chocobos. Maybe the idea of Texas was popularized by a children's book or movie? And now it's just a cultural thing, like the Little Mermaid. And some expressions like "ponytail" have wormed their way into common vocabulary.
