But I also think it might be a good idea to do some soul searching on why you feel there is some sort of shame or other negative connotation to liking smut. And how that might inform your opinion on the author who came up with it, wrote it, and shared it publicly.

I'm not saying this to be mean or anything but I do think it's worth looking inward on your reservations against smut especially on a platform like ao3 that is fairly sex-positive.

As far as I'm aware, the only people who would see that you Kudos-ed a fic is people who also gave it kudos in that little list section and the writer who would love that feedback.

There's no need to be embarrassed or anything! Like that fic!

so many people not wanting to give kudos to ao3 works that they like if said works contain smut, because they're not comfortable having their accounts attached to the works. and the intention of this post is in no way to guilt trip or manipulate people into doing anything. that being said, I'd like to let you know that if you want to give your favorite authors kudos on their works that contain smut (or works that do not contain smut), but are not comfortable with your name being attached to the works, you can still give them kudos by logging out of your account before doing so. this way your kudos will appear as kudos from a guest user, your favorite authors will still receive your kudos, and your account will not be attached to the works ♡

If I have to pause. Its good smut. If I have to pause, smile off into the distance, kicking my feet and giggling. Its really great smut. If I have to pause, get out my seat, shake my head, walk away and mutter obscenities to myself before coming back for more like the thirsty word whore that I am. Its fucking wild, unhinged smut. And I'm here for it.

This is why I can't read spicy books in public. I have zero poker face.
