Me pointing at Cale: This man has so many layers inside of him just like an onion and also just like an onion the deeper you cut through the layers the more it makes you cry

I need everyone to acknowledge the fact that KRS!Cale is a MASSIVE bookworm. He's able to thrive in Birth of a hero because he read it and enjoyed it. (yesyes record helps him, but you can't ignore the fact that he knows the characters, not just the plot. That comes from liking the thing you're reading!)
Give me the young master spending his afternoons reading under the shade of a tree with a new book series and absolutely devouring it in one sitting. He's missed being able to read a whole series and not having to hunt for the next books through a destroyed city.
Give me Cale with a little notebook full of books he'd like to read, the titles collected from the people he talks to. He'll read anything or at least try it out, but fantasy remains his favourite genre.
He also writes little opinion blurbs for his favourtie books, or jots down quotes and favourite lines. Sure his record ability means that he doesn't really have to, but it's an old habit he enjoys.
Cale, who starts collecting books on his travels, just one or two from every place he visits. His friends and allies pick up on this and start bringing him books they think he'd like. Cale has a very speicifc and rare smile when someone gifts him a book. Its small, but it somehow takes over his entire face, and you can almost see his eyes sparkle in delight. It quickly becomes a smile everyone looks forward to.
Cale, who never turns down a book given as a gift, and so he starts picking up bits of knowledge from across the continent. He learns about the edible plants in the Jungle, the different variations of marble and stone throughout the Roan Kingdom, the fables and myths of the Dark Elves. He keeps them on a shelf in his room in the super rock villa, and every once in a while, the kids pick one to have read to them. When the shelf is full, Eruhaben pulls some out from his hoard as a gift to Cale. They're almost too gaudy, but Eruhaben enchants them to protect the books from dust, damage, and pests. Cale spends an entire day reorganizing his collection.
He never thought he would be able to build his own personal library, but here he is.
Cale loves to compare the books he has in this world and the ones he knew before. Sometime in the future, he sits down and uses record to copy out his favourite series. He gifts it to Choi Han so he can have a small piece of home he never got to experience.
It becomes known that the best way to get Cale to stop and actually take a break is to plop a kid on his lap and give him a book he's been looking forward to. One year for his birthday, Alberu gives Cale free rein to explore the palace's secret library. They find him curled up in a corner a couple hours later surrounded by stacks of books.
Cale is 100% the type of person to insist that more libraries should be available to the public so that he can read easily when travelling to different places. It's definetly not because he wants more kids to be able to learn how to read, and he was able to grow into loving books because of his local library.

You know one of my favorite things about this novel?
Is that Cale (Well, Kim Rok Soo) actually acts his age (36)
I personally haven't read many Isekais aimed at male audiences, so I can't speak for those
I have, however read quite a bit of Otome Isekais
And one of the things that annoys me the most about the genre, is when the protagonist, usually an adult woman, gets reincarnated into a baby, a child or a teenager and you sometimes forget their actual age because some of the things they do, some of the decisions they make are /baffling/ when you remember they're a grown ass adult
But with Cale is quite the opposite, people around him are often left scratching their heads at some of his actions and level of maturity ("Aren't you supposed to be 18-20?")
Hell, one time he told Raon that he is "30 years older than him" only to remember mid-phrase that nope, he's actually supposed to be only 15 years older
-Spoilers for P1-
And it's also very funny when Alberu finds out that Cale is, in fact actually older than him, his reaction is pure gold because he's supposed to be the hyung around here you know?

Honestly from the beginning there was something so off about Cale who did not even flinch at the sight of corpses, gore and just the overall massacre that was the Whipper Kingdom when he headed there for the first time.
I'm so happy the author didn't pull the "well he transmigrated! he is just kinda tough headed from the beginning" card that i usually see in these types of stories? it always frustrated me because no, a normal person would not be able to see a battlefield and be okay with it, I really like it when there is a reason and its not just an odd characteristic/ plot hole. I kind of brushed over this moment when i first read TCF and it really goes to show how I just gave up in trying to find a reason for things in transmigration manhwas.
So big big props to Yoo Ryeo Han for always being so iconic and making me look out for twists and revelations. The author perfectly used the situation to hint at what kind of life Kim Rok Soo had lived on earth.

My dear lord and saviour Cale, I do not deserve to behold your awesomeness. I, a mere mortal, is blessed to look upon thy holy figure whilst you cough up blood. I shall obtain the concrete that your holy blood hath stained and keep it in my family for the rest of time as a priceless heirloom that shall inevitably outlast my existence, just as you shall.

TCF SPOILERS!!
Raon’s attribute is so similar to Cale!!!! ☹️❤️ This chapter shows how Raon’s whole ability is defying fate, space, and time! Cale literally defied fate when he lived instead of LSH and CJS and his ability, instant, defies space and time! Raon was also fated to die in the original BOAH but just like Cale he survived :) Not sure what this connection means but they are so sweet

I'm currently rereading Trash of the Count's Family because I've got my hands on the physical copy, and I'm honestly in awe of how much was foreshadowed. I'm currently only on page 24, and Cale already asked Ron to bring him cold water twice after remembering the contents of "Birth of a Hero". On the first read, it meant nothing, but having read all of part 1, it's so obvious that he's using Record.
I love this story

Reading Trash of the count's family and Debut or die at the same time is so funny sometimes.
In one book the MC curses, kidnap, rob, scam, beat up the bad guys at any given occasion but in the other he's like "these fucking bast-...,no let's calm down", I need to keep being level-headed.

there's nothing I love more about lcf than the fact that almost all of the main characters are survivors and how it seriously engraves into you, again and again, the importance of being alive FIRST. It's so refreshing to see an mc who prioritizes safety more than anything else, who won't push past the limits.. like serious limits of everyone just for the sake of winning(now if cale can also do this and walk his talk, it would be perfect.. but that wouldn't make him the cale that we all know and love). it provides you with this mentality that retreating doesn't mean immediate failure, and that there will always be another chance to try again. that one closed door doesn't imply a dead end but a chance to open an alternative path. it's such a simple message and yet we humans tend to forget it when we're facing adversities, a lot of times we're convinced we're forced to make self-destructive decisions... cale would prob have plans A to Z but there would never be a single one among them that has the possibility of him losing anyone even himself. so yes!! being alive is the best!!

Re-reading thanks to Vol 1 being released is so much fun because:
‘That stupid dragon and that paralyzed son of a bitch. Where did all of them go?’
Did he seriously call Raon a stupid dragon? Oh boy, Raon would not like that
It seems like Cale's inner monologue knows no mercy
Raon? Has been called dumb *and* stupid
On and Hong? Nosy punks
Alberu? Has been called a wide variety of names ("He had an extremely useful worker, no, hyung-nim" << I'm still not over this one)
Even Lee Soo Hyuk, who seems to get nothing but praise from him got called 'kind of slow' once
And don't get me started on Choi Han, the amount of flattery he gets is directly proportional to the amount of digs Cale throws at him in his mind
No one is safe from this man's inner monologue
