immortal hulk truly has it all. engaging and thoughtful dialogue and storylines. event tie-ins that aren't a forced part of the main story and thus don't interrupt the flow, but they're still well-written and interesting. underground hrt manufacturing as backstory. immense care, respect, and research put into both characters with decades of history and brand-new ones. exploration of the idea of comic book death and resurrection and its implications as well as the idea of suffering as story and eternal conflict as storytelling and the relationship between character development and regression as it applies to the unique existence of these characters that can't be left alone by the narrative. the choice to be good and to forgive in spite of it all. an entire arc dedicated to shitting on nostalgia baiting. joe fixit calling the avengers bootlickers. mental illness. divorce. mental illness again. immortal hulk has everything.
#and then its follow up is that gd starship hulk nonsense. so mad#anyway i'm really feeling it tonight friends and loved ones#read immortal hulk. please#contra.txt#marvel#hulk system#immortal hulk#bruce banner#c.post

Home Away From Home 3
Warnings: non/dubcon, jealousy, mentions of loss, and other dark elements. My username actually says you never asked for any of this.
My warnings are not exhaustive but be aware this is a dark fic and may include potentially triggering topics. Please use your common sense when consuming content. I am not responsible for your decisions.
Character: Loki, Peter Parker (tall!reader)
Summary: You’ve been friends with the Odinsons since childhood. After years of separation, you reunite on Midgard after the destruction of Asgard, but find yourself caught between your old and new lives.
As usual, I would appreciate any and all feedback. I’m happy to once more go on this adventure with all of you! Thank you in advance for your comments and for reblogging ❤️
Peter’s abode is intriguing. You find all Midgardians have such character in their homes. Stark's is elaborate and expensive, as all things he does, and the spider-hero's being is reflected in his simple but overcrowded decor.
He has shelves of books and little figures. You investigate them as he rustles in the kitchen. You laugh at the miniature of Thor, his proportions comical as his head is far too big for his body. It’s even more amusing to think Peter would have it all while knowing the god himself.
“Have you read any comics?” Peter asks.
“Comics?” You put the tiny Thor back. You wish you could show him.
You face Peter as he sets down a large bowl of popped kernels. He stands straight and grins, “graphic novels.” He steps around the coffee table and nears you. He takes a slender book from the shelf and opens it to show you the colourful illustrations within.
“No,” you lean in to admire the pictures. “I did read a book about a strange immortal stalking this poor girl. It was about night time, I think...”
“You read Twilight?” He chuckles.
“That is the one. I didn’t enjoy that,” you say. “It isn’t proper the way the Ed—Edmund? Behaved.”
He laughs again and slides the book away. “I only saw the movies.”
“There are moving pictures?” You tilt your head.
“Uh, yeah, maybe we can look them up after we watch some wrestling.”
“Yes, watch wrestling,” you echo his sentiment with a lilt. “I’m intrigued. Show me.”
You follow him to the couch. You sit and bounce a little on the spring furniture. You press your hand to the cushion and test the structure. It should do. He sits beside you, fidgeting as the hits buttons on the small remote.
Your eyes flick up to the screen as he shuffles through the menu. Stark loaded up a device for you with all sorts of moving pictures. You find the TV too frustrating.
He sets the remote down as the audio blusters and the images begin to move. A deep voice narrates the sights on screen. A man in bright yellow attire postures and poses as he comes down a slanted aisle. You stare inquisitively at the square platform surrounded by ropes.
“That’s Macho Man Randy Savage,” Peter explains.
“Macho Man,” you nod.
“He’s going to fight Hulk Hogan,” Peter says.
“Hulk?” You look at him.
“Not Bruce,” he assures.
“Ah,” you accept and focus on the screen.
There’s music and a crowd cheering, roaring for the two figures as they put on a show just to get into the square pen. You tilt your head as you watch, leaning forward.
“That’s the ring,” Peter says. “That’s where they fight.”
“Hm, interesting.”
A man in stripes comes to hold up a belt with gold on it. It’s not the sort of thing you would wear.
“That’s the championship. The winner gets to keep it.”
“It is not a very nice accessory,” you tut. “In Asgard, we fight for fun or gold. Who would want that?”
“Well... it’s about what it means. The World Championship. So... they’re the best in the world.”
You hum and watch on. The men tangle in each other. You stifle a laugh as they begin. The way they hit each other, the way they seem to dance, and do everything so deliberately is silly.
“It is fake,” you say. “They don’t mean to hurt each other.”
Peter sighs, “didn’t I say so?”
You look at him and grin, “you Midgardians do stay too quiet. You never say what you mean.”
“Oh?” His brows furrow.
“Yes. You play at fighting and you play at your true intent,” you insist. “You bring me here and say let us watch the wrestling show but I know what you want.”
He gulps as his eyes widen, “you do?”
You scoff and reach to ruffle his hair. You stand and unclasp the buckles on your shoulders. Your satin tunic falls forward and unveils your naked chest, the fabric caught up in the belt at your waist. Peter gasps.
“How do you prefer, dor-dígull?” You reach under the satin and unknot your belt.
He stares up at you. “I didn’t--”
“On Asgard, it isn’t a big matter,” you shrug as you free the belt and shimmy out of your top. You step out of it, your chest swinging and drawing his attention. “I have been rather looking forward to it.”
“You mean...”
“Oh,” you stand up, your hands on your leggings, “have I made a mistake?”
He blinks and his cheeks tinge red, “no, I mean, I want to but I didn’t expect...um, well... usually guys make the first move.”
“Hm, then you make your move, dor-dígull,” you swipe down your leggings and untangle your feet from the bottom. “I will take your lead.”
He takes a deep breath and his eyes flit up and down your body. You feel tingly and a bit eager. Is it normal for Midgardian men to be so skittish about it all.
He gets up and strips off his shirt. His chest is thickly muscled, his stomach too. He might be short but he is well-built. He undoes his denim pants and pushes them down, nearly tripping as he fights to get them off.
You look around and eye the space, “on the sofa?” You wonder.
“Ummmm,” he drones as he continues to strip. “I guess...”
“Mm,” you hum and examine the cushions.
“Unless, er, there’s the bed--”
“You Midgardians are too slow,” you grab him and turn him, pushing him down to sit on the couch. He tries to cover his bobbing cock as he falls onto it. You tut and swat his hand away. “Let me show you how to do it right.” You snake your hand down between your legs and feel between your folds, “I’m ready.”
“Uh, okay,” he flattens his hands on the cushions as he gapes up at you. You grasp his shoulders and bring yourself to straddle his lap.
You grip his member and stroke it as you hover just above it. Your press his tip along your wet folds and tease him. Your hold on him is firm. He throbs and groans at your touch.
“Mm,” you pause at his erratic shaking. “This is not the first time?”
“N-no,” he stutters, his cheeks lighting up even more.
You laugh, “then it will be the best.”
You push his tip against you and slowly descend onto it. As you sheath him in your aching warmth, he sighs and pushes his head back. He trembles as you take him to his limit. You take his hands and guide them to your hips and begin to rock.
“This is the better sort of wrestling,” you jape and move his hands up to your chest.

i am cringe and not free so everything i was able to see from emberlynn's self-insert/blitzø fic
The mysterious demon snarled in defiance before Satan. Heat radiated off of him and his glowing eyes blazed with fury. As my demon lover took a stand against his Lord, I felt my love for him burn even hotter than the fiery depths of Hell. "I won't let you have her," my demon hissed with a mutinous glare. "You took my wife from me, Satan. Never again! Emberlynn Light'ness Demoanya Pinkle is mine." Satan growled, baring his sharp fangs. My knees trembled at the staggering size of them. He was so close that I could feel his hot breath on my skin, which was exposed as a result of my sacrificial outfit (Satan's concubines are forced to wear lace bras, leather miniskirts, combat boots, eyeliner, and a smokey eyeshadow look. Also black lipsticks. Also I was wearing fishnets.) "You dare defy me?" Satan roared, his hulking body towering above us. "Hand over the sexual sacrifice so I may have my way with her." "No!" I cried, throwing my arms around my demon lover. "Please don't let him ravish me over and over! My body belongs to you!" "She's mine to ravish over and over!" my demon declared, holding me close.

Inklings Challenge 2023: The Last Immortal of Evitra
'Tis the deadline day for the Inklings Challenge (@inklings-challenge), and I have not finished my story, but today is also Ren Faire day, and I will therefore not be able to finish today . . . but it's a long story that I'll have to post in multiple parts anyway, so have part one now, and I'll post the rest over the next week.
Also, in classic Taleweaver fashion, this is a fairy tale retelling. Which fairy tale should be fairly obvious. It is not, however, a romance.
Unedited; please be nice about typos.
~~~~~
The Last Immortal of Evitra, Part 1
Anatole Bérenger Judicaël Télesphore Corentin, lord of Blackrose Manor, last immortal of Evitra, woke to the sound of a child crying.
He let out a quiet growl as he reoriented himself to his surroundings. He’d dozed off in his study, it seemed. The last he remembered, the sun had been just at the top edge of the tall windows. Now it was gone, and the whole room was drenched in black shadows — though, of course, shadows had hidden nothing from him for the last four hundred years.
Anatole stirred and stretched, tracing the sound down the threads of magic that carried it. The child wasn’t within the manor house itself, thankfully, but it was concerningly close. Behind the stables, if Anatole read the magic aright. What it was doing there, he could guess, and the thought made him growl again. It had been a long, long time since small boys dared their friends to creep up to his home and spend ten minutes within his gates. If the practice was starting up again . . . well. It might require him to go down to the town again for the first time in decades.
Unless, of course, he could put a stop to it now. Anatole took his cloak from its hook by the door and swept it around his shoulders. Then he stalked from his study, through the halls to a side door, and out into the night.
By the time he found the child, it had stopped crying and moved inside the stables. There were no horses there anymore, nor even any hay — Anatole had no need for such things these days. But in the back, in a corner of the very last stall, there was a small boy, curled up and shivering with his eyes shut and hands balled into the ragged sleeves of his much-mended shirt.
Anatole stepped into the stall, making sure to leave space in the doorway, and growled again, low and menacing. “Boy. Leave my home or face the consequences.”
The boy startled, and his eyes flew open. Anatole knew well what the boy saw. His cursed form was a work of art, he had to admit — curving horns and red eyes and sharp fangs and claws all sharp and distinct and gleaming even without light, and the rest of him a hulking beast of shadows with just enough substance to resolve into one’s worst nightmares. It was a form to make the bravest of men turn and run.
But rather than fleeing, the boy pressed himself more firmly into his corner. “No. I’m not scared of you, demon.” His voice strongly suggested otherwise. “Oúte o thánatos, oúte i zoí, oúte ángeloi, oúte igemoníes, oúte oi dynámas —”
“Oúte oi dynámeis,” Anatole snapped. “If you’re going to threaten demons with the Holy Writ, boy, you’d better say it correctly. Fortunately for you, I am not a demon. But I am a monster.” He bared his teeth further and growled again. “Now, begone. Go home.”
“Don’t have a home.” The boy’s hands scrabbled on the floor as if searching for a crack or crevice to hold onto. “You’ve got the whole house and all the land. You can spare a corner for the night.”
“If you have no home, then get yourself to the orphanage. I understand that’s what it’s there for.” Anatole pointed out the door. “Go.”
“Won’t.” The boy, finding no handholds, crossed his arms and shut his eyes. “Go away, monster. You’re probably a bad dream anyway.”
How dare the boy defy him! How dare he!
Anatole felt the enchantments woven into every inch of the estate swell in response to his wrath. They didn’t anticipate his need the way they once would have — the curse ensured that — but they would answer swift enough if he called upon them. He could have this boy ejected and back on the road in moments, and in the morning he could add another layer of spellwork to more effectively discourage trespassers.
But it was full night, the town was well over a mile away, and there were wolves in these woods. Sending the boy out on his own would be a shade too close to outright murder for Anatole’s taste. So, with a sigh, he reached down, grabbed the boy, and slung him over his shoulder. Then he turned and trudged back towards the main house.
The boy thrashed and struggled to get free. “Let me go! Put me down, monster!”
“No.” Anatole shoved open the side door, stepped through, and then paused to lock it behind them. “If you’re spending the night on my estate, you’ll do it where I can keep an eye on you.”
The boy continued to wriggle and protest as Anatole made his way swiftly to one of the smaller guest chambers. There, with much relief, he dropped the boy onto the couch. No dust rose — cleaning spells were child’s play, and Anatole had spent his first week of isolation laying multiple in every room. But somehow, the cushions still managed to let off an air of long disuse.
Anatole took a step back. “You’ll sleep here and then leave in the morning.” Now that he’d brought the boy inside, the long-practiced rules of hospitality gripped him like an instinct. “Are you hungry?”
The boy eyed him with suspicion, but gave a tight little nod. Anatole shut his eyes, probing his awareness of the house to check what he had to offer. Apples, cold turkey left from his dinner, cheese — that would do. A few commands and a plate appeared on the low table beside the couch, along with a sturdy mug of water. Anatole opened his eyes again. “Eat.”
The boy poked at the apple suspiciously — rude of him, as Anatole had even gone to the trouble of having it sliced. “Is this fairy food?”
“I have no interest in trapping you in my home.” Anatole resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “I summoned it by magic, but the food is real.”
The boy picked up an apple slice, tasted it, and seemed to approve. “Are you planning to eat me?”
“There’s not enough meat on your bones to be worth the effort.” Anatole turned. “Eat, sleep, and be gone in the morning. I will come to this room at ten o’clock, and if you are not gone, I will remove you myself — and should you return, I may rethink eating you.” He waited to hear no further protests, but rather stalked out of the room, shutting the door behind him. As an afterthought, he locked it, laying a small spell so it would unlock again only after the boy had slept, and sent a command through the estate to close and lock all other doors and to only let them open at his own touch, or if they were necessary to let the boy out in the morning. With that, he made his way to his own bed and fell into a light slumber.
At half-past seven the next morning, he roused as he sensed the boy scurrying out the same side door they’d entered through the night before. Anatole remained awake until he felt the boy vanish off the edge of the estate. Then, satisfied, he drifted back into deeper sleep. He had done his duty; no one could argue that. And now the boy was gone and, with any luck, the threat of being eaten would be enough to keep others away for another hundred years or so.
~~~
Three days passed peacefully, and the fourth dawned cold, grey, and threatening either rain or snow. Anatole had decided some centuries ago that, on such days, resisting the urge to hibernate like the bear he somewhat resembled was far more trouble than it was worth. So, he spent most of the day in the library, alternately napping and listening as a speaker-spell read a book to him, stirring only when hunger made it necessary to summon a meal.
He was just waking from one of these naps when he felt a clumsy tug on the estate’s magic. Immediately, he shook himself, reaching out to see who or what dared try to use his power.
Once again, there was a child at the other end of the disturbance. The same one as before, if Anatole wasn’t mistaken. And there was another with him, smaller than he. Anatole growled, extracting himself from his blankets. Apparently, he’d been too kind to the boy last time. He would not make the same mistake again.
Outside, the sky had resolved into a storm of wind and driving rain and occasional flashes of lightning. Anatole trudged onward all the same, following the periodic tugs in his web of enchantment. A curse and a pox on the boy for choosing this day of all days to come back! And he was further from the main house this time, all the way out in the gamekeeper’s cottage — even longer disused than the rest of the estate’s outbuildings.
The door was locked, but it opened at his touch. The floorboards creaked beneath his feet as he swept inside, drawing himself up to his full height so he nearly touched the ceiling. “I told you not to return.”
The boy — indeed the same one as last time — looked up with wide eyes. He scrambled to his feet, darting in front of the other child. “What d’you care? You’ve got all this space and no one to live in it. We’re not hurting anything. I didn’t come anywhere near your house this time.”
“I care very much when someone trespasses on my property and tries to use my power for his own.” Anatole peered past the boy at the second child: a little girl, perhaps half the boy’s age, yellow-haired and thin-cheeked. “And you should know better than to wander into a monster’s den.”
“There’s monsters everywhere. You aren’t special.” The boy glanced behind him, and his shoulders sagged a little. “One night, Seigneur, please. Then we’ll leave. I promise. We’ll leave and we won’t come back.”
Anatole considered — but the rain and wind outside left him no choice. “I will hold you to that promise.” He turned. “Come.”
The two followed, straggling along behind him, the boy carrying a small bundle on his shoulder and helping the girl along with his free hand. However, after ten minutes, in which Anatole had to stop and wait five separate times for the children to catch up, he turned and simply scooped up both, ignoring their panicked protests. They were light as feathers, both of them — lighter than they ought to be, but perhaps that was merely the greater strength of his current form. Or perhaps he was misremembering. It had been many, many centuries since he’d had reason to carry a child.
He didn’t set the two back down until he’d reached the small guest room where he’d let the boy stay last time. There, he deposited both children onto the couch and once again summoned a platter of food: two bowls of the thick rabbit stew he’d started earlier that day for his dinner, cold flatbread rounds left from lunch, soft cheese, and juicy pears. This time, he very deliberately chose to materialize it on the table by the fireplace. “The food will stay warm until you eat it, at which point you will take care not to make a mess. You will remain in this room, the adjoining one, or the connected bathing chamber until after dawn tomorrow, and you will leave no later than ten o’clock. At no point will you disturb me. Is this understood?”
The girl just stared, but the boy nodded. “I understand. We’ll do as you say.”
“Good.” Anatole stalked from the room — but, to his surprise, the boy followed him out. “What did I say to you a moment ago?”
“I need to ask you something, sir.” The boy held his head up, dropping his tone. “If you eat one of us, make it me. Not Aimée. I’m the one who brought her here. And can you make sure she goes somewhere aside from the orphanage when you send her away?”
Anatole cast a cold glance at the boy. “The two of you together wouldn’t make as much meat as the rabbit I put in tonight’s stew. You may attend to the girl’s fate yourself when you both leave in the morning.”
“Thank you, Seigneur.” There was a bitter note in the boy’s voice, no doubt at the fact that he had to express gratitude for not being eaten. “We’ll not disturb you.”
He disappeared back into the room, and Anatole strode hastily away, working a belated drying-spell to pull the water from his cloak, clothes, and form. One night more. Then these two would be out of his hair and, with any luck, far, far away.

I’m reading the immortal hulk omnibus, I’d teach a fucking course on this comic if I could holy shit. I get it now. This is the best hulk comic that’s ever been written. This is breathtaking. They have accurate terminology like “alters” and “system” when describing his multiple personalities? They describe the way a black woman is robbed of the privilege of her own anger while the white man is forgiven or handled with the gentlest care? THE ART? HOLY SHIT THE ART? THE META COMMENTARY? This is brilliance. This is actual fucking brilliance, I’m on part 4 of 15 that this website has cleaved it up into to read and I rave and rant about the quality of this incredible piece of work. This is so clearly written by someone who has read the full breadth and depth of Hulk’s lore, someone paying such beautiful homage to the history of the character and showing them in ways I’ve never imagined but now see as the DEFINITIVE representation of Bruce Banner, The Hulk. Please crush my dreams about this, tell me it’s just the worst thing ever by the end, I’m gonna get so hyperfixated on this god damn work of ART otherwise.

I agree 100% on Duggan’s run re: the character writing and history for Tony were 10/10 but I’d have liked more of it to not be so tied to the Fall of X.
It’s why I’m excited for Duggan’s West Coast Avengers, and I wonder if Duggan felt the same, he wanted to write more Tony but he had done his arc and current Marvel seems pretty set on 2 years per writer unless there’s like an historic run going or a planned end (like Immortal Hulk or Kelly Thompson’s Captain Marvel) so he got Tony for WCA to keep his arc going but separated from the main book. And he separated Tony and Rhodey for Plot Reasons in his run so it will good to see them together as a duo in this book!
Plus Duggan set up Firestar and Tony as sources/confidants to each other in the X-books, and Firestar’s kind outcast status with the mutants, so I’m very interested in how that will play out. And if Duggan pairs her withe Tony as his Red Headed Love Interest and/or Assistant…well it makes more sense then Patsy&MJ lol. and Angelica has quite the history with Emma so that's ANOTHER point of intrigue lol especially since Duggan himself had Emma and Angelica bring it up recently, so Tony and Emma’s recent marriage might be a fun plot point.
(Add in the recent Hellcat&Iron Man mini series and Tony has had recent history with 3/4 of the…defunct Marvel Divas team (remember that? Oh 2009). Tho he’s had some dealings with Monica as well? But not personal 1-on-1 time idt? But how funny is it that they tried to make a “Birds of Prey” counterpart and they got 2 redheads and 2 Cat themed heroes on the team of 4 heroes should have gone all the way and done all Cats or all Red Heads lol.)
And it seems WCA is going to have more than one “seeking redemption/a fresh start” members, never mind the complex histories of Jessica Drew and Tony and Angelica, what with Ultron and Blue Bolt joining? So Tony having a team of characters like that I’m interested in.
(I think too, Duggan was criticized during his Xmen runs for focusing more on his fav characters rather then the full team so we’ll see how this goes, but cross our finger with at hopefully Tony is a focus in any case!)
Let’s hope the run is successful enough that eventually we see a blond love interest of Tony’s make at least an appearance! Steve OR Emma haha. Or even better, Steve joins once his Avengers mini is done. I liked his Steve a lot in Marvel 1872, and his writing of Tony along with their relationship is what gave us hope for Duggan’s run so more of that please! And I did like Tony and Emma’s romance, much more respectful to both characters then *ahem* other recent Hero/Tony pairings.
I'd actually never heard of Marvel Divas, so thanks for the link! I'm gonna check that out. That certainly looks like An Experience, whooo.
(Honestly I have no idea what Marvel is thinking with some of these Themed character lineups. I like to imagine them getting pitched the IM & Hellcat Annual and the Iron Cat mini at the same time and just being like "Cat??? Cat. Ok. Yes. All the cats.")
I think the WCA lineup looks good -- and, honestly, I am a fan of writers focusing on their faves. I'd rather have them get to write their faves than be forced to write a character they don't want, so I hope Duggan likes everyone on the team and I'm excited to see more of Tony and Rhodey's story -- plus, he left a lot of little plot hooks dangling in his IM run that he could pick back up on.
I haven't read a whole lot of her, but I really liked what Duggan was doing with Firestar in his X books because I have had a ridiculous amount of fondness for her since Busiek's Avengers run and it'll be nice to see her actually on a team with Tony again.
More Emma/Tony would always be good -- honestly, Tony with exes he's still on speaking terms with is so novel that whatever happens it's gonna be interesting. (I mean, there's Tony/Jan, but they haven't interacted recently, except in Twilight, which was not 616. And I think Cantwell made Patsy go insane in the recent Hellcat series? Anyway, I don't think she's coming back anytime soon.)
I would obviously also always be up for Steve and Tony on the same team, and I think Duggan wrote Steve well both in 1872 and in the recent Uncanny Avengers mini. I feel like Marvel could totally give us a new Captain America & Iron Man miniseries, also. I don't know if it was meant to signify anything, but the trade of the Cap & IM mini has a 1 on the spine, which is not the case for other one-shot minis I have in trade. It could also just mean that Marvel is bad at graphic design, but I'm still hoping.

I'm not a big fanfic guy, but I was thinking about how much of a bummer it is that Jackie Mcgee hasn't been in any comic since Immortal Hulk ended, and how much I want to read a Jackie Mcgee solo series. So I was like, okay nothing official but surely the fine folks at ao3 will have written a mystery story spinoff. And I want to inform you that I have read a total of three fanfictions, this is the FIRST time I've searched for one myself.
NOTHING. Not only no spinoffs of what Jacqueline McGee got up to after immortal hulks, NO FANFIC WITH HER IN THEM AT ALL.
THIS IS A TRAVESTY. SOMEONE WHO ISNT ME PLEASE FIX THIS. I'm super celiac glutened brain fogged and achey and half awake but like... HOW.

Comics this week ?
Superman #18 - Farewell Campbell, I loved your art on this book when you were actually able to draw it. Most enjoyable part of the Absolute Power event was this tie-in, rarely get to see Supes and Zee team up. Do need to reiterate that all the writers who make a big deal that "Superman never lies/Superman is bad at lying" are making themselves look foolish. Waid at least has tried to justify it in interviews by saying *his* Superman never directly lies as Superman, but Clark is a proficient liar no matter how you try and spin it.
World's Finest #31 - Boring start. Waid defied my expectations with the Imp arc, but this appears like it will live down to my expectations of being half-assed. Reads like Waid is sleepwriting, Eclipso and the JSA have never held my interest and this doesn't appear set to change that. I do want to shout out Gutierrez, his art is fantastic. He's great at drawing facial expressions to sell the comedy bits and he's great at fight scenes.
Wonder Woman #13 - Diana blocking bullets despite being powerless was awesome and the Diana/Steve flirting here was cute. Otherwise this sucked like the last two issues did. I finally get why people hate Damian, he is insufferable here. Normally his bluster is entertaining but here the stilted delivery King writes his dialogue in irritates me. At least it's finally over and we can get back to the main storyline.
Jenny Sparks #2 - Jenny being this emotionally affected by 9/11 is the most ridiculous thing since Doom cried over the Twin Towers. She's done plenty of genocides all by herself, knocking down two buildings is her equivalent to a cat getting stuck in a tree. All the grawlixes need to go, King overuses them to the point it's hard to follow what the characters are actually saying. That said, Jenny and Clark having had a fling in their past is perfect and everyone who got mad at that can get bent. Another $820 billion to Tom King for a Superman mini with Jenny in it please.
Incredible Hulk #17 - First time since Immortal Hulk where I've let out several "holy shit" reactions. Don't think this book will surpass GL: WJ as the peak of PKJ's cape work, but I'm back to being eager for the next issue like I was during the Warworld Saga.

Since the new Sensational She-Hulk run is coming, what were your thoughts on the last run, (or any of the comics before that, e.g, the Soule run, Tamaki hulk, Aaron Avengers, Immortal She-Hulk)?
I enjoyed Rowell's She-Hulk run for the most part. I actually liked the Jen/Jack of Hearts relationship bc I thought it was interesting how it built off their interactions in Avengers. I need to reread Tamaki's run bc I feel like that might give some context (intentionally or not) to Rowell's She-Hulk and how she feels comfortable enough to be in a relationship with Jack after he caused her to lose control.
I will say I was not a fan of the end of the series with the Scoundrel love triangle thing, it felt like a little diversion where instead of solving her relationship issues with Jack she flirted with Scoundrel. and not in like a "she's using this to avoid her problems instead of address them, this is in character" sort of way (which it could have been!) but in like "the story has been put on hold bc Rowell thought her bad boy character was hot" sort of way. Also not a fan of the way Jen constantly told him she wasn't into him and he'd keep hitting on her and purposefully setting things up so he could meet her. not just bc he's being a dick but also from a story perspective like, the story has changed from being About Jen to being About Jen's "Flirtation" with Scoundrel. There's really only so much of villains creeping on Jen that I can take and just bc the villain is hotter than say, Mole Man, doesn't mean it's alright. There wasn't even meta commentary about how he's derailing her story to insert himself into it. 😐 Bring back Jen complaining extensively directly to the writer! Bring back fourth wall breaking! I really hope that the change to the Sensational title means the return of extreme fourth wall breaking.
I'm a bit torn on how it depicted Titania bc on the one hand. Funny. Also it remembered Marsha. But on the other hand, like that is her nemesis, Titania is never going to get along with Jen. It's not even really about Jen, Titania has her own issues that just can't be fixed offscreen. I really liked how Jen and Mallory's friendship was depicted though. They're competitive and they're rivals and they don't really get along but also they respect each other and they're begrudgingly friends I want to see more of it! I hate the way Slott wrote them it was so one dimensional he's my nemesis for real. Speaking of Slott's bad choices, I approve of Mallory and Awesome Andy being in a relationship but come on you can not just drop that in there with the way Slott left them, I really hope it's expanded on in the new Sensational run. My only other request for the new Sensational is Wyatt. Please bring back Wyatt. I miss Wyatt.
LOVE Soule's She-Hulk did you know he was an actual lawyer how cool is that I wish he'd gotten to write her longer, I read Tamaki's Hulk but I need to revisit it I do remember liking it though, I have NOT read Aaron's Avengers but I'm scared of what I've seen from it, I have also not read Immortal She-Hulk but idk really anything about it
I am trying to read all of her appearances you can look at my tag here with all of my thoughts I just realized I haven't actually posted the one on Soule's She-Hulk I pinky promise I will get caught up I was trying to get through 2015 Secret Wars before posting it but I got distracted by Hawkeye
#i love getting asks about jen btw#other characters too but im always happy to answer asks about jen :)#marvel#jennifer walters#liz reads comics#liz's she hulk readthrough#ask#anon tag#also ms rowell and i are not on good terms her gay knockoff h*rry p*ter parody thing is some of the most boring pointless shit ive ever rea#however im glad jen is being written by a woman and ill try not to hold a grudge against rowell ill take what i can get at this point

I didn't know about Wanda Langkowski the first time I read Immortal Hulk, now I'm rereading it and the conversation with Carol where she clearly has less dysphoria as Sasquatch than as Walter is making me feel insane actually
I KNOWWWWWWW or this line where Hulk is fighting possessed!Sasquatch.
I dunno, it's just interesting. Hulks are usually accepted as being manifestations of people's inner conflict or turmoil; even without having DID like Bruce, most Hulks' forms are parts of their psyche given a powerful physical form. So it's just curious to me, if you were already a successful football star, already wealthy, already married with a wife and a son, why would you ever feel the need to become a Hulk? A big, hairy Hulk? The part of the psyche given form is one that seemingly feels like it isn't enough, that their original form is somehow not enough, isn't strong enough, isn't masculine enough, despite all the success. It's not a power thing, because Sasquatch was never characterised as being particularly power hungry. In fact, she's vocally uncertain when Carol promotes her to head of Gamma Flight!
I dunno, it's just really interesting how Sasquatch has never felt like enough in the form of Walter, and how everyone seems to recognise that, but only Bill Mantlo was strong enough to ask the question why. Someone, please. Give this bitch estrogen.

Khal is Reading: Incredible Hulk (2023) #1
So I'm officially starting to document in here and in my journey in reading comics here and what better comic to start than with the only ongoing I currently read, The Incredible Hulk! This will be a monthly review!
Directly continuing from the previous run by Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley, Phillip Kennedy Johnson (PKJ) and Nic Klein teams up to bring horror into the Hulk lore. Not that the jade giant have shy away from horror genre before (re: Immortal Hulk and basically the entire Hulk origin took a lot of inspiration from Frankenstein's monster)
As this was my first ongoing, I was very cautious. Hulk is the (western) comic character that I've read the most of and I've grown fondness to the character. From discussions I've seen online, I assume that Hulk is one of the luckier characters in terms of the quality of his solo runs. Minus Aaron, the Ultimate universe and the recently finished Cates run, there hasn't been a lot of complaint regarding his run throughout the years and I'm hoping that this next one would not be joining this tiny list.
And while I can't promise that the quality would stay consistent throughout, this first issue for sure brings a lot of confidence.
The story begins with an exploration team exploring hidden tombs in Al-Qadissiyah, Iraq and unbeknowingly release an ancient entity (seemingly connected to the green door) and ended up being possessed by these entities. They form a cult that claims themselves to be the child of the Mother of Horror. Meanwhile, Bruce is now dealing with a very, angry Hulk after the recent events between him and the Hulk (from the Cates run). The cult believes that Hulk is necessary for the new Age of Monsters and proceed to plan to go after him.
We also got introduce to Charlene, a teenage girl trying to escape from her abusive dad who encounters the Hulk on her run. Now, one of the things that I miss the most about the Hulk was his relationship with his sidekicks/friends. Whether it's Rick Jones or Amadeus Cho/Brawn and I'm hoping that Charlene will stay as his travelling partner for most of this run.
As for what I think, I think this issue was amazing. Like "that's what I'm talking about" amazing. Like "Please give me the next issue asap" amazing. I was completely suprised at how much I love this first issue.
I was always worried whenever the first issue just didn't have enough "juice" on it for me to keep me interested or starts off in the middle of a story and keeps me confused and this issue have none of that. We get to see where Bruce is now at his life, the antagonist for this arc (at the very least), and his new friend and a surprising cameo 👀
Not to mention the art. The art is gorgeous and it depicts the horror and the grotesque nature of the story perfectly. All the credit goes to Nic Klein and Matt Wilson for the beautiful art.
All in all whether you were already a Hulk fan or you're a comic fan just looking for a promising action-horror comics, I think this comic fits perfectly for you.
If you have some money to spare and don't mind spending it on comics, do pre-order for the next issue if you are interested (or don't! It's up to you!)
Also great news, the first issue is currently sold-out and they're planning for a second print. Congrats to the Incredible Hulk team!
Final Rating: 9.5/10

Important note in making sure people have the kind of dash they want:
I tag things related to Israel/Palestine as #palestine
Politics as #us politics and #politics
For things related to Bruce's DID, depression, and host of issues it's usually #mental health
For hopeful reminders related to him it is #things bruce needs to remember and #a pile of good things
I will try to be more consistent about tagging things #queer or #queer history
And I want to use #out of bruce's mind as a catch all for OOC stuff.
Everything under the read-more is just for my reasons about why I reblog what I do on a Bruce Banner blog. It's not necessary to read if you just want to know tags for filtering purposes.
All of these reasons and my own beliefs are why I reblog these things, but I know tumblr is also an escape for people. So please use this info to create the dash that makes the most sense for you. <3
I draw from a mix of comics and MCU for my Bruce. Bruce Banner was an orphan raised by a single parent, his Aunt Susan. He was an outcast, he had mental health issues such as Dissociative Identity Disorder, and it is comics canon that he wanted to work with gamma for energy or healing purposes. A lack of funding because he was not charismatic in addition to his other issues is what forced him into working for the military.
Bruce Banner became a hero because he saved Rick Jones, a teen he didn't even know.
He has been poor, he has been hungry, imprisoned, hunted, experimented on by himself and others. He has headaches and chronic pain and weird body chemistry. In the MCU and comics, he's also consistently tried to help other people.
In Immortal Hulk, he was disturbed by greed from corporations like Roxxon, cruelty and violence from others, and sided with peaceful protesters.
He worked alongside a trans person and Joe Fixit expressed it made sense people would want to be who they truly are.
Again:
All of these reasons and my own beliefs are why I reblog these things, but I know tumblr is also an escape for people. So please use this info to create the dash that makes the most sense for you. <3
