im always so reluctant to get behind "fanon" things bc for me the fun part of fandom is getting obsessed with a piece of media and poking at it and picking at it and licking its bones. i love to collectively converge on the carcass that is the source material like a pack of vultures. especially when something kind of sucks -- that just adds flavor.
so yeah idk.. when a fanon thing gets so powerful that it overpowers the original in the fandom im like... yawn. not 4 me. im a scavenger

idk the fact that hermitcraft, empires, the life series, and the qsmp can all exist not only without incredibly prevalent misogyny problems but with the women on these servers being treated with the same amount of adoration by the fans as the men despite being outnumbered by men on all of them tells me that maybe the misogyny problem on the dsmp had absolutely nothing to do with how many women were on the server but with how they were treated both on and off camera
like i will always be critical of the fact that there is a severe lack of representation for both women and poc within the mcyt community but if you try to approach that problem the way the dsmp did-- just adding a shit ton of them to the server but not actually making an effort to include them in anything and ignoring their attempts to be included-- of course theres gonna be a fucking problem with the way they’re treated by the fans and of course that’s not going to help with the fight for more inclusion

For Halloween this year I decided to go as Best Freak Boy Herbert West. I even dyed my hair on my own for the first time, and I'm quite pleased how it came out.

Ftr. I had NOT forgotten how to swim. But I had forgotten how awesome it feels!!! This is just like when I opened the window that one time last April after getting my new antidepressants and seeing how beautiful the moon is for what felt like the first time. Like don't get me wrong, getting traumatised and being stuck inside for months as a result sucked, but it does kinda rule being able to rediscover all the nice things about the world

sorry to west wing post on the 911 blog but remember in west wing season 7 when they had toby commit treason and didn't tell richard schiff until right before they filmed because they knew he would be furious and fight them about it so they put off giving him the script until it was too late to change it. thinking about that for totally unrelated reasons

I keep forgetting I can't seem to get the current version of xkit to work on my new laptop and going to do stuff that it let me do fjldksafjdlsaj
#text post#im p sure the mutual marker thing was a feature w/them bc i'm missing them on everyone that#as far as I know I was still a mutual with#then again I did drop like. fifteen followers over the last week#but that usually happens whenever I start actually posting my personal thoughts on my personal blog lmao#have also gotten a few messages both politely and not so politely asking me to essentially shut the fuck up re: my personal posts#idk what to tell y'all on that bc like. i have a lot of folks I follow n' enjoy who post just as much /even more than me re: personal stuff#I think im just particularly irritating even when I'm trying really hard not to be and try to edit my posts down/keep them under readmores#but im trying to be better#not trying hard enough tho apparently and this tag essay probably won't help but. idk.#i think we're all allowed to be as irritating/post as much personal stuff as we want on our blogs#but i also think im still operating uselessly on how tumblr was a few years ago. ppl don't like that anymore it seems#and that's okay but I gotta work on catching up to that and do better#anyway. it's possible i did lose most of my mutuals and tbh it's not a big deal it's just a lot of ppl at once like. damn.#makes me wonder what the last straw was just out of curiosity#bc if that's really what happened then im down to like. maybe three or four mutuals left and it hasn't been that low since I first started#on here back in like. tail end of hs beginning of college#I also keep missing the quick reblog feature which was my fave but. someday I will figure out why xkit isn't working for me#and i will fix it. at a time when im not sick and feeling cruddy lol

Honestly not even the last fifteen years — try since the 1990s. A lot of the language we use to talk about social issues today comes from academia, and it is language that has been in use in academia for far longer than it’s been in vernacular. “Social constructs” and the ways in which texts produce/subvert/question them have been, broadly speaking, the primary concern of literary scholarship since the ‘80s. The third wave of feminism started in the late ‘80s; Kimberlé Crenshaw coined “intersectionality” in 1989, and very soon after it gets picked up by a lot of literary critics. Edward Said’s Orientalism, which is pretty much the starting point of postcolonial theory, came out in 1978. By the year 2000 Queer Theory and Gender Studies are flourishing. Fuck, I was so busy talking about those guys I almost forgot to mention that Marxist lit theory has been alive and well since the fucking ‘70s!!!! If you go back and read a piece of literary theory from 1998 you will probably be surprised by how much it sounds like it could have been written yesterday. But that’s because many of the ways we now describe gender and race and sexuality were invented by academics — queer and female academics, academics of color, other marginalized academics — thirty-forty years ago.
Obviously, criticism from the early/mid-20th century is, to generalize a little, going to suck for all the reasons you think it will; back then, most critics had this idea that a text had one objective correct meaning, and the critics deciding on that meaning were overwhelmingly wealthy straight white men (that said, we even owe some things to those nerds — mainly close reading, looking at a paragraph or a sentence of a work and examining its form and content and using it to draw conclusions about the work at large, AKA what’s happening in 90% of tumblr media analysis). But since the 70s literary criticism has been primarily post-structuralist, and since the 90s that post-structuralism has primarily turned its attention to examining how a text understands structures of class, race, gender, sexuality, culture and society at large in very nuanced, intelligent ways. There are a lot of fantastic scholars doing a lot of fantastic work!!! Post-Colonialism, Gender Theory, Queer Theory, Feminist Theory, Critical Race Theory, and New Historicism are all doing quite well at the moment — within the past fifteen years or so you can start throwing Ecocriticism into the hat, if you want to see people talking about how literature treats the natural world. By dismissing “scholars,” you’re ignoring the fact that there are a lot of really cool literary critics you could be learning from RIGHT NOW!!
And this is a little beside the point but I do really want to note that also: you’re neglecting the fact that YOU are doing scholarship, even if you’re not “scholars”!! Like, I hate the people who invented close reading, but holy shit close reading is the foundation of like every piece of tumblr media analysis ever!! Furthermore: Frankly, if you’re talking about the latent meaning hidden within the text you are probably also doing a little bit of psychoanalysis because that’s where we get that idea about reading literature (sorry, fellow Freud haters). If you’re talking about the emotional reaction the text provokes, if you’re interested in how the serialized nature of dracula daily changes the experience vs reading it as it was published — congratulations, that’s Phenomenology, the study of how people experience a text!!!!!! Plus there are (as previously mentioned) all the ways that we get our vocab on gender and race and class and social constructs from theory. Your blorbo analysis post is a form of literary criticism that is deeply, deeply indebted to both modern post-structuralist theory and earlier 20th century ideas of close reading and psychoanalysis, even if you don’t know it. In that respect, and in the fact that modern criticism is going to be working under many of the exact same methodological and ideological influences as you, I promise literary scholarship is worth your time.
since I'm paying more attention to drac daily stuff this year I'm seeing a lot of posts saying "scholars always get the book wrong" and guys, ya gotta read better scholarship. poke around on jstor and google scholar for publications from the last ~15 years. see if you can find queer / feminist / postcolonial centered journals with online public archives. find a writer you agree with and see who else they cite. I prommy that academics are not your enemy and a lot of them are in their line of work precisely because they're just as not normal about their blorbos as you are. hashtag don't turn this into another "historians will say they're just friends."

never before in my life seen someone else who hates spiderman no way home until now o7
So nice hearing from you flicker! I would love to know why you also hate it o7 and if your reasons are at all similar to mine!
You've given me the opportunity so now it's takedown time...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I truly believe that movie must have been conceived of by a gravely unwell person. It's the only explanation for why it interjects itself into all these sociopolitical conversations and casually resigns itself to their most conceivably destitute logical ends. (Like! It can't possibly take that many steps to string together a multiverse plot??)
It's really important that we introduce the idea of restorative/transformative justice in a Marvel property. How about with the tracksuit crooks, where we have a whole thread going on about how an indigenous man joined them to provide for his deaf child, and died on the job (in the television show airing concurrently with this movie)? Nah, we'll bring back Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and explore that theme with a hammy cartoon supervillain. Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin. And it's not even like this idea of redemption is diluted and it's the hero's own flawed understanding, it's this weird omnipresent virtue that the characters have to aspire to, spearheaded by the hero's aunt. And she will put her faith in this comically surface-level understanding of restorative justice above her nephew's safety (she knows he's spider-man by the way). BUT she is killed midway through, so before we can even contemplate how shitty of a parent she is, the film tells us she is a martyr and we need to treat her guidance with even more reverence. But what interest would a billion dollar movie have in wanting to make transformative justice seem like an inherently silly idea?
Quickly, two other things in this vein: The concept that Alex Jones/his in-universe allegory JJJ would be blaring on the biggest screen in Times Square. I have to ask why make this comparison unless it's to say something, and what is it saying? Shut up if you're upset about him having a platform because at least he's not broadcasted on like 18 huge screens for all the world to see, like in this hypothetical universe? And Dr. Strange with his world-upending powers, even though he briefly considers the consequences if the spell were to go wrong, he is ultimately rash and precarious and it spirals out of control... okay we're getting somewhere, it's starting to resonate as some kind of analogy, maybe... and oops he's just portrayed as this goofy spell-master and not a kind of villain in his own right.
And then there's the aura the thing as a whole gives off. We know the production and vfx on this were rushed to get it done on time—and that's far from uncommon these days, unfortunately—but there's something about this film in particular where you can feel the sleepless nights, the crusty dry eyes, the oatmeal brain... oozing out from every frame. Watching it made me feel like I worked on it tirelessly and that I shouldn't look at it any more for my own sanity.
So the whole amalgamation to me is a misanthropic display that really is unlike anything I've seen in entertainment media. This isn't insipid run-of-the-mill studio crap, it's studio bile that is so thick and disgusting that it asserts its place in spacetime and asks you to consider how we got here. I find it so profoundly un-human it takes on a macabre quality. Forget horror movies!
This movie existing and being a crossover event with all the Spider-men? That's fine, even exciting. But the way it turned out, I cannot stomach it on an almost guttural level.

𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐞 [𝐍𝐎𝐓]!! | a JJK series
Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: “GO FUCK YOURSELF, SATORU GOJO!” “BETTER THAN FUCKING YOU!” It’s no secret to anyone on this Earth that you and Gojo cannot stand each other. Despite that, the world seems amused to put these two star-crossed lovers haters in the same space. Or worse, have them dwell deeper into their feelings for one another…
𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: Gojo x fem/afab! reader - explicit content; minors DNI - modern + college AU - frenemies to lovers + mutual pining - fluff + angst + misunderstandings - first kiss - virginity loss - Gojo and reader are at least age 20 - secret relationships; implied friends-with-benefits - sex in shared rooms; college dorms + hotel suite - college parties - use of party games (seven minutes in heaven) - confessions - mention of drug/alcohol abuse - humor bc Gojo and college, lol - Gojo is a cocky, tactless sweetheart, nothing new - cameos of other characters + explicit content will be listed in their respective fics (within the contents).
𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞: when I say that I had this series planned out, I mean like mid-October last year planned out, lmaoo!! I'm honestly so psyched to do this series, as it's one of my favorite tropes + relatively short as I'll be busy irl, but we'll do what we can!! i was lowkey feeling this concept when i was re-watching Ranma 1/2 and figured it would work great with Gojo. So, here's to hoping i can properly execute my thoughts with this series, hehehe~
reblogs + comments are appreciated wholeheartedly ❤︎ gif header made by me + fic dividers used are provided by the wonderful @cafekitsune and @animatedglittergraphics-n-more!!

₊˚⊹♡ 𝐒𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧 (Feb 1st)
The start of the spring semester is supposed to be fresh and new, not be cramped up in a closet with your frenemy at a party! And what's worse: you actually like the feeling of his lips on yours!?
₊˚⊹♡ 𝐇𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐞, 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝 (Feb 7th)
Is it possible to wish to be in the embrace of someone who makes you want to throw them off a cliff? You seem to think so, and the same goes for Gojo. But alas, good things always come to an end, even when not meant to be...
₊˚⊹♡ 𝐒𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐥𝐲, 𝐈 𝐇𝐚𝐝 𝐚 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 (Feb 14th)
Going on a date with the guy who broke your heart is something you’d never thought would happen – especially on Valentine’s Day! But it’s just for him to be in your good graces again, nothing more…Yeah, go ahead and tell yourself that.
