Devoted to the point of obsession, sometimes he will tail his partner when he's out hunting for ingredients. He doesn't think it's creepy, after all he's just making sure they're safe. The city is a dangerous place, who knows what might happen.

He loves cooking for his partner and will ask what their favorite foods are so he can perfect cooking their favorite dishes. He loves doing things for his partner and is at his happiest when he can be of service for them.

Doesn't have any issues with self image, so it doesn't take time for him to warm up to physical contact. In fact, it's faster to get into a physical relationship with him, while it takes longer to get him to emotionally commit to it.

various advice tidbits on writing limbus company fic

from my own personal notes 👍 i will likely add on more to this later. this is all based on the official english translation.

Vergilius seems to refer to everyone by their full name. He calls Faust "Ms. Faust" in the prologue and "Miss Faust" in the Dante's Notes mini episodes. He calls Dante just "Dante" most of the time, but sometimes uses "Manager Dante" to make a point. I don't speak Korean so please correct me if this is wrong, but I think Faust is the only one he uses an honorific for.

Charon calls Vergilius "Verg" and the bus "Mephi". It stands to reason that she would similarly shorten others' names if she were addressing them directly.

Regarding Don: "Don Quixote" is her full name. "Don" is a title in Spanish, but seems to be part of her name here. She is never referred to as "Don" or "Quixote", only "Don Quixote". Hong Lu and Yi Sang are similar in that both parts are the full name.

Meursault is pronounced "mer-SO". There's two u's in his name, just like in the word vacuum.

Heathcliff most likely does not have a surname. In Wuthering Heights, he is raised alongside the Earnshaw children but is notably not considered an Earnshaw. He has one name, like Cher and Michelangelo. This can be seen in Limbus in his icon, which reads CE ❤️ HC (Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff).

Rodya's name in her source material is Rodion Raskolnikov. Since she is female in Limbus, her surname becomes Raskolnikova.

Gregor is Jewish; this shouldn't need to be said but it does bear repeating. Please do not have him celebrating Christian holidays. He would not fucking say that.

Sinclair canonically said the word "legit" to Kromer which is something I think of often when trying to figure out if a word seems too informal for him to say. He's well-educated and polite most of the time, but he did still call her a bitch too. Sinclair can say rude words.

Ryoushuu's SANGRIA usually spell out a word. She sometimes uses two- or three-letter ones that don't spell anything on their own (like RB, EC, CIH), but four or more letters will spell a word (SYNC, TRANCHES, NOUN, etc). She will not say HMFTDIHTST or anything of that nature. Rule of thumb: if it's more than three letters, it spells something. (The one exception I have found is her W Corp ID, which has a skill called DDEDR.)

Reading the character's source material can give you incredible insight into why they act the way they do, even if we've already been through their Canto. I strongly recommend looking into the source works as part of a well-rounded analysis.

I'm not gonna rb this post for the third time but re-reading the quotes again I was hit by--

This is where Miles got it from. In the early books especially Miles strives to be worthy of his father, worthy of his father's legacy and his father's home. But this??? This-- Pain, like time, is going to come on regardless. Question is, what glorious moments can you win from life in addition to the pain? THIS!!! This is basically Miles entire life philosophy!!!!!

He has not known a time when he has not been in pain, when he has not been living in anticipation of pain. Every physical activity he does has to be calculated carefully. Is the risk worth it? Is the damage worth the reward? Is the pain worth the glory?

Cordelia chose Aral and chose all the pain that he carried. "But when he's cut, I bleed." She chose Barrayar, chose to have a Barrayaran husband and a Barrayaran child even though she knew-- "Barrayar eats it's children." She tells Miles to be a moving target because he was almost assassinated twice before he was born. He is a target. He will always be a target. But damn her, he will be a moving target. Her son will learn how to stand on brittle bones, he will learn how to walk, he will learn how to run. He will live, live, live.

Cordelia chose the pain of Barrayar for the glory of love. She loves Aral. She loves Miles. She loves Gregor and the Koudelkas and Alys and Ivan and Simon and Bothari and Elena. She has so much love in her life, so many glorious moments of love, moments that she won in addition to the pain. And that is what she teaches Miles. Find what glory will make the pain worth it. Pain is going to come regardless. Endure it. Find Joy. Make your own meaning.

And for Miles, it's not love exactly. He is loved, he has always been loved, he has never doubted that he is loved. For him that glory is recognition, it is respect, it is trust. That is what makes his pain worth it, those moments when he is seen for who he is and understood for what he is capable of. Those moments when he can save people and serve people and inspire people.

Miles runs full tilt into life. Forward momentum is the law he lives by. He is a target but he has never stopped moving, never stopped fighting to win those moments of glory.
