Influence of women in Indian history
In ancient Indian culture, women were treated as equal to men, and there was no discrimination on the bases of gender, instead of that women were honored by society, and society at the time considered women as Janani which means mother, even in Hindu scripts women are considered as Devi. They used to enjoy their full basic rights where they were free to receive education, at that time the wives of the rishis could willing to take part in spiritual activities with their husbands, they were also known as the Ardhangini (better half) too. During that period, women got to live equal life just like men used to live.
The accomplishment of Gargi, Maitreyi, Sita, Draupadi, and Alapa turns out to be the most ideal role for women of this era. These women were competitive with men in many fields and also received and enjoyed their rights and equality, there were no restrictions on them, and they possessed great wealth and property. Along with that they even had a very strong say when it came to guiding their offspring.
And their are some renouned personality that has contributed to our Indian socity and they are
Rani Durgavati: The Gond queen of central India, Rani Durgavati, ruled with wisdom and courage, successfully defending her kingdom from Mughal attacks. Known for her bravery, she symbolizes resistance against external oppression and is revered as a fearless leader.
Tumblr media
Meerabai: A mystical poet and devotee of Lord Krishna, Meerabai's verses continue to be sung in devotion across India. Her poetry embodies themes of love, devotion, and spiritual transcendence, inspiring people across boundaries and generations.
Tumblr media
Raziyya Sultan: Raziyya Sultan, the only female ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, defied gender norms in the male-dominated political landscape of 13th-century India. Her brief but impactful reign as Sultan showcased her administrative skill and courage, and she remains a symbol of women’s capability to lead.
Tumblr media
Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi: Perhaps one of the most celebrated figures in Indian history, Rani Lakshmibai was a fierce warrior who stood against British colonialism. Her resistance during the 1857 Rebellion is a significant chapter in India’s fight for freedom, making her an enduring symbol of courage and patriotism.
Tumblr media
Savitribai Phule: A pioneering educator and social reformer, Savitribai Phule is credited with establishing India’s first school for girls. Along with her husband, Jyotirao Phule, she fought against caste discrimination and dedicated her life to the cause of women’s education.
Tumblr media
Sarojini Naidu: A poet, political leader, and freedom fighter, Sarojini Naidu was a prominent voice in the Indian National Congress. Known as the "Nightingale of India" for her lyrical poetry, she used her voice to advocate for women’s rights and was an influential leader in India’s struggle for independence.
Tumblr media
Indira Gandhi: India’s first female Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi was a formidable leader known for her decisive and often controversial policies. Her leadership in times of crisis, including the Indo-Pakistan war in 1971, marked her as a powerful figure in Indian politics.
Tumblr media
Kalpana Chawla: A pioneer in space exploration, Kalpana Chawla became the first woman of Indian origin to go to space. Her journey inspired many young women to pursue careers in STEM, highlighting the potential of Indian women in the global arena.
Tumblr media
Mount Everest, and is the first Indian woman to do so. She crushed orthodox gender stereotypes and proved that with willpower and diligence, anything is possible. Her extraordinary achievement continues to inspire women around the world to reach for the sky.
These women are just a few examples of the many others who have made India’s history. Their stories are proof of their strength, spirit, and single-mindedness. They serve as an inspiration to future generations, reminding us that women can do anything.

Raziyya, the eldest daughter of Sultan Shams al-Din Iltutmish (1211-1236), possessed all the qualifications necessary for kings. During the lifetime of her father, she used to administer affairs of the kingdom, and possessed great grandeur, on account that her mother Turkan Khatun, was the chief lady of the harem, and her place of residence was the royal palace, the Kushk-i-Firuz. During his Gwalior campaign, Iltutmish had left Raziyya in charge of Delhi and on his return, he was very much impressed by her abilities in managing the administration of the Sultanate.

I've been reading The Shortest History Of India by John Zubryzcki. Partially it's because I know very little about the history of India (something something Buddhism, something something Mughal Empire, something something colonialism, something something independence), and I feel like as A Good Global Citizen I should know more? Especially because India is So Big.
But I was also reading it because in my experience, I think [wiggle hands] all history is interesting? I just got to have a place to start before I can go '[historical thing] is SO COOL and I want to know all about it.'
For a fair while through the book, I was left a bit cold, though. Like, yeah, those sure are some cool pillars that one dude name. Zero is pretty neat. Art is good. But nothing grabbed me, you know?
...Until I got up to Raziyya al-Din. Apparently the secret to my heart is badass empresses who are good at ruling despite the shit hand they have been dealt, and have sapphic movies made about them.

Like he was such a brave and interesting person irl he wasn't afraid to be himself even though the times were very homophobic, and that fact that he started out as a slave servant and he managed to become regent and a chief army general (a very capable one too) and the fact that all his achievements in the battlefield were downplayed because of his affair with allauddin, and the fact that Alauddin refused to pay any heed to the nasty gossip surrounding them at court and chose Malik to be his regent because he trusted him over everyone else - this man lived such an interesting life and it's a shame we don't see him celebrated more
I wish someone would make a good movie/tv show/whatever telling Malik Kafur's story, like just an honest effort at telling the journey of the first known openly lgbt person in India's history with sympathy and respect and not as a homophobic caricature and plot device

Razia Sultana
Raziyya al-Din  usually referred to in history as Razia Sultan, was the Sultan of Delhi in India from 1236 to May 1240. Like some other Muslim princesses of the time, she was trained to lead armies and administer kingdoms if necessary.[1][dead link] Razia Sultana was the only woman ruler of both the Sultanate and the Mughal period, although other women ruled from behind the scenes.[2] Razia refused to be addressed as Sultana because it meant "wife or mistress of a sultan". She would answer only to the title "Sultan". Razia had all qualities of a great monarch.
Reign as Sultan and Death
Razia (also called Radiyya or Raziyya) succeeded her father Shams-ud-din Iltutmish to the Sultanate of Delhi in 1236. Iltutmish became the first sultan to appoint a woman as his successor when he designated his daughter Razia as his heir apparent. Razia was the first and last women ruler of Delhi Sultnate. (According to one source, Iltumish's eldest son had initially been groomed as his successor, but had died prematurely.) But the Muslim nobility had no intention of acceding to Iltutmish's appointment of a woman as heir, and after the sultan died on April 29, 1236, Razia's brother, Rukn ud din Firuz, was elevated to the throne instead.
Ruknuddin's reign was short. With Iltutmish's widow Shah Turkaan for all practical purposes running the government, Ruknuddin abandoned himself to the pursuit of personal pleasure and debauchery, to the outrage of the citizenry. On November 9, 1236, both Ruknuddin and his mother Shah Turkaan were assassinated[3] after only six months in power. With reluctance, the nobility agreed to allow Razia to reign as Sultan of Delhi. She dressed like a man and sat in open durbar. She was an efficient ruler and posessed all the qualities of a Monarch. As a child and adolescent, Razia had little contact with the women of the harem, so she had not learnt the customary behavior of women in the Muslim society that she was born into. Even before she became Sultan, she was reportedly preoccupied with the affairs of state during her father's reign. As Sultan, Razia preferred a man's tunic and headdress; and contrary to custom, she would later show her face when she rode an elephant into battle at the head of her army.
A shrewd politician, Razia managed to keep the nobles in check, while enlisting the support of the army and the populace. Her greatest accomplishment on the political front was to manipulate rebel factions into opposing each other. At that point, Razia seemed destined to become one of the most powerful rulers of the Delhi Sultanate. But Razia miscounted the consequences that a relationship with one of her advisers, Jamal-ud-Din Yaqut, an Abyssinian Siddi (Habshi) slave,[4] would have for her reign. According to some accounts, Razia and Yaqut were lovers, other sources simply identify them as close confidants. In any case, before long she had aroused the jealousy of the Turkic nobility by the favoritism she displayed toward Yaqut, who was not a Turk, when she appointed him to be Superintendent of the Stables. Eventually, a childhood friend named Malik Altunia, the governor of Bhatinda, joined a rebellion by other provincial governors who refused to accept Razia's authority.
A battle between Razia and Altunia ensued, with the result that Yaqut was killed and Razia taken prisoner.[5] To escape death, Razia agreed to marry Altunia. Meanwhile, Razia's brother, Muizuddin Bahram Shah, had usurped the throne. After Altunia and Razia undertook to take back the sultanate from Bahram through battle, both Razia and her husband were defeated on 24th of Rabi' al-awwal A.H. 638 (Oct. 1240). They fled Delhi and reached Kaithal the next day, where their remaining forces abandoned them. They both fell into the hands of Jats and were robbed and killed on 25th of Rabi' al-awwal A.H. 638,[6] this date corresponds to October 13, 1240.[7] Bahram, for his part, would later be dethroned for incompetence.
Legacy
Razia is said to have pointed out that the spirit of religion was more important than its parts, and that even the Islamic prophet Muhammad spoke against overburdening the non-Muslims. On another occasion, she reportedly tried to appoint an Indian Muslim convert from Hinduism to an official position but again ran into opposition from the nobles. Razia was reportedly devoted to the cause of her empire and to her subjects. There is no record that she made any attempt to remain aloof from her subjects, rather it appears she preferred to mingle among them. Razia established schools, academies, centers for research, and public libraries that included the works of ancient philosophers along with the Qur'an and the traditions of Muhammad. Hindu works in the sciences, philosophy, astronomy, and literature were reportedly studied in schools and colleges.

Entertaining the notion of an anime idea called like, Saint Archer Soldier, which would be a magical girl genre anime, the girls would be more older teens or college age and the conceit is that each loosely represents a saint or religious character type for a major religion; so we have a Joan of Arc soldier type, and an Arjuna type, and maybe a Sultan Raziyya type for the Muslim character. And they fight like demons and stuff, but the whole point of the show ends up not being these demon fights, but the nature of struggle, cause and effect, the fulfillment of personal duty, discovering one’s truest sense of self, that kind of thing. This all probably sounds weird, but in my head it's absolutely majestic like Saint Young Men meets magical girls and played completely straight and I already have a theme song ready, another Indian inspired style song which I had already been working on and which is also majestic.
Also toying with taking my anti-grav dancer anime idea and turning it future solarpunk instead of near future speculative.
And I'd use these notions in my anime industry novel so it's not like these are going to go to waste.

so my new necromancer in eso
her name is raziyya al-dushana, and she’s a redguard born in hallin’s stand, bangkorai. her merchant father stayed there after evermore took control of the region, seeing it as a business opportunity. her soldier mother, however, returned to sentinel. both are loyal to fahara’jad, but have very different views on what loyalty to hammerfell (and the covenant) means.
raziyya was seen as old enough to make her own mind up, and she chose to stay in bangkorai for one key reason: she had already started dabbling in necromancy at this point, and feared that moving closer to the heart of hammerfell would make it difficult (if not dangerous) for her to continue her education.
raziyya has always been entranced by magic, and being on the border of high rock gave her plenty of opportunities to witness it’s power. she has a kind of romantic view of it: lots of elegant movements and fancy words, power from intelligence rather than physical exertion. she also likes to think of herself as an anomaly amongst her people (in multiple ways, but largely in terms of her rejection of many of the traditions she grew up with), so exploring magic was a way to further set herself apart. necromancy was something she stumbled into, coming across a book tucked away in an alcove while traveling to evermore with her father, but excelled at relatively quickly. she’s very much in the ‘necromancy is just a tool, it’s not inherently evil’ camp, and she’s since read many, many, many treatises that agree with her.
despite the reputation that comes with necromancy, raziyya is actually a ball of sunshine. she’s nearly always upbeat and chipper, is extremely extroverted and goes out of her way to chat to people, is exceedingly kind and empathetic, and honestly just has an almost childish sweetness to her demeanor. this is one of the reasons her necromancy has gone undetected for so long: rumours are inevitably met with ‘her? lmao good joke’.

messing about with my eso kids and figuring out where they all fit
genevelle thera.
the vestige (main story).
hero of the daggerfall covenant (main dc faction questline).
joint king-slayer/aider in wrothgar (wrothgar dlc with elen).
savior of vvardenfell, the clockwork city, and summerset (daedric war questlines).
ends up aiding in the elsweyr questlines.
♡ darien.
basically, gen kind of stops after summerset. she’s a lil bit tired, a lil bit afraid of what comes next, and a lil bit (a lot) broken, and she goes back to her house in wayrest with the full intention of retiring from the adventuring/heroism life. it’s raziyya and eleniyra who pull her back in: raziyya because she wants some advice and she doesn’t want to ask abnur or eleniyra’s judgemental asses and eleniyra because ‘this NECROMANCER is running around NECROMANCING she listens to you plz come stop her’.
eleniyra.
hero of the aldmeri dominion (all ad faction quests).
joint king-slayer/aider in wrothgar (wrothgar dlc with gen).
aids in the summerset questline.
ends up aiding in the elsweyr questlines.
♡ ayrenn.
true to her nature as an eye of the queen, eleniyra spends a lot of time trying to advance ayrenn’s interests in subtle ways. that’s how she ends up in wrothgar initially, though she is convinced by gen to leave the faction-recruitment alone long enough to actually help with what’s going on. it’s also how she ends up deeply involved in the elsweyr storyline, as she hears about the release of the dragons and immediately books it to anequina to help her fellow dominion members.
vethisa lladri.
silencer of the dark brotherhood (dark brotherhood dlc).
member of the thieves guild, but probably only until they find out how many of her marks she’s killed (thieves guild dlc).
♡ ???
vethisa literally just hangs about the gold coast sanctuary, stepping out to kill and steal. occasionally she heads in to anvil or kvatch for some fun, but she’s not much of a traveller if she can help it. she also really doesn’t care about the bigger dealings of tamriel. some other do-gooder is probably falling over themselves to handle it, after all.
ji’atrani.
rising star of the aldmeri dominion’s cyrodiil forces (pvp character).
protector of dominion populations outside of battle (ad area quests).
♡ razum-dar.
ji’atrani is a childhood friend (sweetheart) of raz’s, and used to run about with ayrenn during her time abroad. when ayrenn went back to claim her crown, and raz went with her, ji’atrani balked at the idea of being stuck in summerset, dealing with the inevitable racist shitshow that would unfold as ayrenn suggested treating the khajiit and bosmer like equals. but she’s proud of the dominion and eagerly joined the army when it was deployed into cyrodiil.
raziyya al-dushana.
protector of the covenant people (dc area quests).
hero of murkmire (murkmire dlc).
savior of elsweyr (elsweyr/dragonhold dlc).
second-in-charge of the new dragonguard.
♡ aeliah.
raziyya meets genevelle (who is relatively well known by this point in the dc) in bangkorai and helps her with the mess there. taken by gen (in multiple ways), she decides she’s wasted enough time in her homeland, joins the mages guild, and fights in coldharbour to end the planemeld. afraid the guild would kick her out for her necromancy, she adventures on her own in high rock, then started working with cyrodiil collections and ended up in murkmire. abnur tharn contacted her not long after this (seeking someone competent but who wouldn’t draw too much attention), and she ended up in elsweyr.

Note
do your eso ocs interact or are they off doing their own things? also did you play through the main quest with all of them or just genevelle?
thanks so much for the question, nonny! I love chatting about my kids! 💕
they do all exist within the same story, and yes, most of them interact in some way:
genny and eleniyra work together in the main (four companions) quest, orsinium, and summerset.
gen and raziyya meet and work together in bangkorai and coldharbour and the latter also ends up working with eleniyra (and gen, eventually) in elsweyr. in between, gen is off doing orsinium and the daedric war storyline, while raziyya is working in murkmire.
vaelinwe is a lover of mannimarco and part of the worm cult, so she fights gen and elen a couple of times during the main questline and has a particular hatred of eleniyra.
eleniyra, as an eye of the queen and friend of razum-dar, knew ji'atrani before they were officially introduced, but has since worked with her in furthering the queen's agenda, including fighting with her in cyrodiil.
genevelle works with anneke during greymoor. anneke is sent with lyris to solitude to investigate what's happening and ends up insisting on being a personal bodyguard to princess svana.
the only one who doesn't interact with the others is vethisa, who happily stays away from all the major world-ending events in tamriel. I love the idea of elam coming back after blackwood and telling them all what happened and vethisa being 'why the fuck would you do that'.
in terms of playing through the questlines, both genevelle and eleniyra have been through the base game quests (alliance + four companions). raziyya has been through half of those, plus murkmire and is slowly going through elsweyr. anneke is the one I had intended to do the EP questline on, but she's still sitting in shadowfen. genevelle is the one I do the new content on and has done everything but the dark brotherhood and the thieves guild, which only vethisa has completed.
