Omar Apollo, Kevin Abstract, Ravyn Lenae & Malcolm Todd – Red Rocks Amphitheatre – Morrison, CO – September 26, 2024
The 25th show of the “God Said No” World Tour was nothing short of amazing. Omar Apollo, accompanied by Malcom Todd, Ravyn Lenae, and Kevin Abstract, played the prestigious Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO. Having the opportunity to play on the iconic stage is one thing but to make things even more special, every single row was packed with fans.
Malcolm Todd got the crowd not just warmed up for the exciting night ahead but set them on fire. Fans jumped around and sang to the young opener who played a mix of alternative and indie pop songs for the audience.
Following up was Ravyn Lenae, an R&B singer from Chicago, IL. With a beautiful voice and bright smile, she wooed the audience with her music. Lenae moved around the stage in red light, carrying the momentum started by Todd.
Joining the tour for his very first night, Kevin Abstract gave a passionate and energetic performance. Unlike the previous acts, Abstract started his set on a rock off to the side of the venue. Fans whipped their heads around in excitement as he began to sing. After one song up there, he jumped down off the rock and ran to the stage. He played a mix of his own music and Brockhampton favorites. That being said, his time spent in front of the barricade was short lived as he ran off into the audience. He ran through rows as a spotlight followed him. Eventually, he made his way back to the rock he started on to close out his set.
Fans sporting homemade t-shirts and sunglasses eagerly awaited the main act of the night. As the stage lights dimmed, fog filled the stage. Emerging from the smoke was Apollo, dressed in a large fur coat. As he sang, dancers filed onto the stage beside him. He slid his jacket off and soon broke out into dance. Omar Apollo not only knows how to sing but he can truly perform. His set consisted of wonderfully choreographed routines, epic guitar playing, and heavenly vocals. At one moment in the set, he took the time to denounce anyone who told him he would never make it. The Grammy-nominated artist also expressed his thoughts on how he is proud to be who he is. A queer, Mexican American pop singer who is unapologetically himself. This show was one to remember, for Apollo and fans alike.
The God Said No World Tour continues through mid-October across the United States. I highly recommend stopping by a date near you if you can! Omar Apollo is a true star of our generation, and you do not want to miss him.

Omar Apollo's 'God Said No': A Bold New Chapter in Music and Style
Omar Apollo's latest album, ‘God Said No,’ released through Warner Records, marks a significant evolution in his musical journey. With executive producer Teo Halm by his side, this album arrives a little over two years after his critically acclaimed debut, "Ivory." Leading up to the album's release, Apollo teased fans with singles like “Spite,” “Less Of You,” and “Dispose of Me,” the latter of which he performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. "God Said No" features notable collaborations, including musician Mustafa on “Plane Trees” and actor Pedro Pascal on a spoken-word piece aptly titled “Pedro.” The album's title reflects Apollo’s take on the phrase “lo que sera, sera” (whatever will be, will be), encapsulating a humorous yet poignant outlook on life's inevitable ups and downs. In conjunction with the album, Apollo will launch the God Said No North American tour on August 20th in Indiana. The 29-date tour will see him perform in cities such as New York, Boston, Toronto, and Houston, culminating in shows at iconic venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre and The Hollywood Bowl. The tour will feature support from Kevin Abstract, Malcolm Todd, and Ravyn Lenae on select dates. The creation of "God Said No" began after the whirlwind success of his debut and the intense touring that followed, including supporting SZA and Billie Eilish. Apollo spent three reflective months in London, drawing inspiration from poets like Mary Oliver and Ocean Vuong and musical icons like Kate Bush and Beyoncé. In the hallowed halls of Abbey Road Studios, with producers Halm, Blake Slatkin, and Carter Lang, Apollo crafted a deeply personal and emotionally charged album, shaped by the aftermath of a tumultuous love affair. Apollo's debut album "Ivory" in 2022 was celebrated for its genre-blending and multilingual approach, earning him a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and commercial success with hits like "Evergreen (You Didn't Deserve Me At All)." His acclaim extended to year-end lists from NPR, Billboard, and Rolling Stone, and performances on NPR's Tiny Desk and Jimmy Kimmel Live! He also became a prominent figure in fashion, serving as the first ambassador for Youth to the People and fronting LOEWE’s menswear campaign. His recent Met Gala debut in a custom LOEWE suit garnered widespread praise, cementing his status as a multifaceted artist and style icon. Read the full article

5 Female Rappers You Should Know
No other culture has impacted the world in the way that Hip-Hop has. While lyricists make up only one element of the all encompassing art, they are often placed at the forefront of it, and there are some pretty dope female emcees that are graciously and fearlessly leading the charge. Artists like Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and an entire host of “Dolls” have seen an ongoing amount of commercial success due to their ultra seductive nature and sexually-liberated lyrics. Other rappers, like Jamla recording artist Rapsody, have made it a point to strictly popularize their flagrant ability to rock the mic.
With all the new female energy pulsating through the movement, here are 5 female rappers you should be listening to.
Noname
Fateema Nyeema Warner, also known as Noname, is a poet and rapper from Chicago. Her debut mixtape, Telefone, dropped back in 2016 with features from acts including Xavier Omär, Smino, and Ravyn Lenae. A dual genre act fulfilling both jazz rap as well as neo soul categories, the 27-year old artist’s songbird cadence over an ill selection of melodic beats coexist in the most natural way. Serving as a solid accompaniment, her floetic vibes will lead you on an explorative mission into the lyricist’s own train of thought. Noname recently released her debut studio album, Room 25, back in September and the body of work does not disappoint.
Noname is set to perform at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on February 21.
Kari Faux
Upon first listen, you’d swear this 26-year old Arkansas-bred emcee is one of the flyest California-born ladies to ever exist. Her smooth West Coast flow appears to melt into each track, creating some of the chillest vibes you’ll ever catch. After a series of mixtapes stemming from 2012, Kari’s debut studio album, Lost En Los Angeles, was released in 2015, to which HBO’s hit series “Insecure” turned to for use of her track “Lie 2 My Face, but that wouldn’t be the only time the artist collaborated with the show on music related ventures. Her relaxed and laid back tales disperse the many troubles of daily life by providing a soundtrack for the escape.
Kari Faux’s latest album, Primary, became available in September of 2017. HBO’s series, once again, tapped the songstress for inspiration, this time featuring her track, “Lowkey,” from her second studio album, which is fire per usual. If you’re active in the L.A. scene, you might have witnessed a dope DJ set by the artist as well.
Kari is currently on tour with Mic Jenkins.
Tierra Whack
Grammy-nominated artist Tierra Whack is the total embodiment of eccentricity, and it’s lit! Hailing all the way from North Philly, Tierra is known for her exuberant wardrobe, quick-witted lyricism, and superb command of a number of cadences. Her debut album, Whack World, released in May 2017, features 15 one minute tracks that flow effortlessly. To make matters that much more interesting, the 24-year old musician also crafted a visual for each song and compiled them into one gnarly fifteen minute and forty-eight seconds long adventure.
Tierra Whack toured with multi-genre producer Flying Lotus back in 2017. More recently, she joined 6lack on his world tour, From East Atlanta with Love. Now, the immensely talented act is up for a Grammy in the category of Best Music Video for the 2019 Grammy Awards, and we’re all rooting for her!
Leikeli47
This masked New York native hides her appearance so that fans will focus on the depth of her musical abilities, but Leikeli47’s uniqueness spans far beyond her iconic bandana printed ski mask. In an attempt to remove all creative limits, the artist is known for crafting a signature sound using whatever mock instruments she can find at the moment.
Leikeli47’s sound is like a collective neck roll to a boss chic’s anthem, encouraging listeners to enjoy some quality turn up time while rocking out to a rhymefest. Wash & Set, the artist’s first album, was released back in September 2017. Her latest project, Acrylic, delivers all the nouveau of a fly ass full set.
Like Leikeli47’s peer emcee Kari Faux, the lyricist has also had music featured on HBO’s series, “Insecure”, with original music on each season of the show’s run to date.
CHIKA
First known as the viral sensation who called Kanye West out via freestyle for turning his back on the culture, Jane Oranika, also known as CHIKA, bends the new generation’s rules of style and technique to meet her own demands. The 21-year old Nigerian American rapper, singer & songwriter hails from Alabama, and has made much noise spitting fire self-made rhymes over popular beats, in some instances giving rebuttals to other artist’s POV, as was the case with her cover of J. Cole’s “1985”.
If this femcee looks familiar and you still don’t know where to place her, you may have come across BET’s Hip-Hop Awards cypher last year, where she previewed a dope freestyle and likely became your new musical obsession. She’s even gained the support of a number of acts in the industry including Wale & Erykah Badu.
Check out CHIKA’s creative flips, spoken word, and live music on her socials & Soundcloud.

Here is the start of my 2018 lists. 2018 was kind of a meh year for music, if I’m being honest. But if I’m still being honest, you probably didn’t need me to tell you that. On the plus side, the EP game was a lot stronger. Here are my favorite EPs of the year. Just like these EPs, my reviews will be short, sweet, and to the point.
Mothe- by Kilo Kish: Imagining a future with Miguzi intact. Listen to: Void, Elegance, and Prayer.
4U- by Ojerime: Melancholic, melodic, charismatic, cryptic, cathartic, and iconic. Listen to: Greasy, Civilian on Heat.
Crush- by Ravyn Lenae: This is summer year round. Listen to: Sticky, 4 Leaf Clover, and The Night song.
A Girl Cried Red- by Princess Nokia: Vulnerable and surprisingly well from a contemporary chameleon. Listen to: Look Up Kid, Morphine, At the Top, and Little Angel.
Pink Champagne- by Kitten: Yes, she did it. Listen to: I Did it! and Abigail.
Sugar and Spice- by Hatchie: The Cranberries featuring the Cocteau Twins. Listen to: Sure and bad guy.
