[ad_1] Washington Sundar in third test vs NZ (PC: BCCI/X) The ball landed around off stump. It drew Tom Latham forward, as he looked to defend it. The New Zealand captain played for the angle, but the ball straightened after pitching. It went past the outside edge and hit the off stump. It was a jaffa, a delivery that probably would have gotten any left-hand batter out. Washington Sundar, supposedly a part-time offie, had every reason to rejoice at the dismissal. Rachin Ravindra’s scalp came via another beauty. Washington delivered from wide of the crease, drew the batsman forward, and the ball turned just enough to go past the outside edge and disturb the timber. On paper, Ravichandran Ashwin, a great in his own right, is India’s premier off-spinner. But Washington has become the lead performer in the ongoing series, with 15 wickets already in his bag from three innings. Ashwin, in comparison, has just six wickets to show for his efforts. He went wicketless in the first innings of the third Test on a Wankhede turner. Washington wasn’t supposed to be playing in this series. He wasn’t in the original squad and was plying his trade for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy. He was drafted into the squad as an additional member before the second Test, ostensibly as batting cover, as Shubman Gill was recovering from a stiff neck and Rishabh Pant was nursing a sore knee. The 25-year-old returned to the Test fold after a gap of three-and-a-half years and claimed a seven-for in Pune. “It was all God’s plan,” he told reporters after that. Maybe, it’s “God’s plan” that belatedly, after several hiccups, Washington’s fledgling Test career will get a major boost. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Washington Sundar at the press conference (Source: RevSportz) “He (Washington) is going to be one of India’s leading all-rounders,” Ravi Shastri told ESPNcricinfo back in 2022. “He is the future. You have (Ravindra) Jadeja today. Three years down the line, if Jadeja is still fit, he will play. There is Axar (Patel) around. But this guy is your premier all-rounder across all three formats of the game. Hear what I am saying. Three formats of the game.” Washington was fresh from a match-winning partnership with Rishabh Pant against Australia at the Gabba followed by another one against England in Ahmedabad. The youngster had a solid platform to build on, but things didn’t go to plan. His career would retreat to the mundane surroundings of domestic cricket. Injuries played a part. But more than that, Ashwin, Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, and occasionally Axar, were so dominant in the home series that Washington’s services were not required. The Indian team management rated him, but there was no vacancy. Washington has always been a very capable batsman, but as an off-spinner, he struggled to turn the ball. Bowling flatter and quicker through the air had been deterrents to imparting turn. The current series has witnessed a change. He is not ambling in his run-up. He is varying his pace and bowling a lot more over-spinners. Washington has done his job as a bowler. On Saturday, on the second day of the final Test, he will have to stand up and be counted as a batsman. A couple of brain-fade moments towards the fag end of the first day have put India under serious pressure and the hosts will have to atone for it on Day 2, as they seek to avoid a home series whitewash. Washington has the ability to perform under pressure and he will have to contribute with the bat. Coming back to his bowling, on a turning pitch, he once again out-bowled Ashwin, returning with 4/81 from 18.4 overs in New Zealand’s first innings. Ashwin, on the other hand, got 14 overs. The transition has probably begun in earnest. The Gir Night that Ravindra Jadeja Introduced Ravindra Jadeja with Three Lions
Something is enchanting about Gir National Park that it can magnetize numerous adventurous travelers from all across the world every year. Located in the south-east of Junagadh, Gujarat, this national sanctuary is known for embracing the largest living packs of Asiatic lions alongside many other species like leopards, nilgai, deer, chinkaras, four-horned antelopes, and more.
An infusion of admixture of thorn forests and delicious trees like Dhak and Sal has given all the living things of the park home, covering the entire 500 square miles area. Gir Forest is a utopia for jungle lovers with the birds chirping in open daylights and predators’ glowing eyes in nights’ darkness.
The scenic beauty of this reserve and the lions’ regal splendor has been attracting many renowned faces to Sasan Gir. On that list, a new name has been written when the Indian cricket team’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja paid a short visit to the reserve. He encountered three lions at the side of a road and posted a video of that experience on social media, saying that it was the best experience he has ever had.
Ravindra Jadeja seems to be inclined to witness these regal beasts in their habitats. Cause, just a few years back, he seized everyone’s attention by posting a photograph of lions. In 2018, Jadeja visited South Africa with the Indian cricket team for a test series. During that series, he took out some time to visit South Africa’s sanctuary and click the photograph, posing with a lion.
Before 2018, a few such photographs from him started a big controversy when at Gir National Sanctuary; he clicked a selfie with a lion. A few other pictures that he shared on social media platforms showed his family posing with lions. As this kind of activity is strictly prohibited, the Gujarat forest department charged him with 20,000.
Maybe clicking pictures with lions is illicit there, but beholding their royal splendor is never against the law. Since its inception, several thousand lions have been raised in that area. Hence, travelers dedicated to having a glance at the kings of beasts don’t require waiting for long for it.
Suppose you haven’t visited the sanctuary yet. In that case, you should go for a Gir Online Booking as soon as you can, cause without beholding the beauty this place possesses, you can never identify the wealth and diversity Indian forests are still holding. However, while planning your visit here, you have to keep in mind that being a protected area; it’s closed during the time of June to October. But, the winter months (March to November) are ideal for visiting the place. Gir Safari Booking is also available during that time. You can also arrive in the area during the summer days.

2 crucial wickets and 2 superhuman catches: All-round Jadeja gives India glimmer of hope in Christchurch
New Post has been published on https://apzweb.com/2-crucial-wickets-and-2-superhuman-catches-all-round-jadeja-gives-india-glimmer-of-hope-in-christchurch/
2 crucial wickets and 2 superhuman catches: All-round Jadeja gives India glimmer of hope in Christchurch
At the end of Day 2 of the 2nd Test between India and New Zealand there was no doubt that the Kiwi bowlers snatched the momentum India had in the first two sessions of the day. India crossed the 200-run mark for the 1st time in this Test series and that fortunately helped them take a 7-run lead in 1st innings, fortunately because a cruising New Zealand finished Day 1 with 63 for 0.
On Day 2, a special effort by the Indian team was needed and so Ravindra Jadeja assured that anything he does should be just picture perfect. Jadeja’s bowling and fielding both had a stamp of class on them.
Ravindra Jadeja got the red cherry in his hand in 14th over of the day. He bowled with precise line and length, so much so that one of his delivery struck on the helmet of Tom Latham, who was trying to paddle the bowler.
In his 2nd over of the day, New Zealand’s most experienced batsmen Ross Taylor fell pray to the left-arm spinner. After firing in 3 tight deliveries, Jadeja dropped the ball short after watching Taylor coming down the track. Taylor aimed the shot over leg-side but as the shortened ball from Jadeja spun out, it took an edge of his bat and landed in the hands of Umesh Yadav, who ran from point to take a stunner.
The second instance of the all-rounder’s masterclass came courtesy a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah. It was the 50th over of New Zealand’s innings when the pacer bowled a lose delivery to BJ Watling and as expected the wicketkeeper-batsman went for a drive. Ever ready Jadeja pounced onto the hard-hit ball towards point and took an astonishing catch. The 31-year-old dived to his left and stretched both his hands to complete a difficult catch which was made to look easy by the gun fielder. This is how it is in any sports, isn’t it? A benchmark above a benchmark is set for a genius and Jadeja is a fielding genius, there is no doubt in that.
The third picturesque sight produced by Jadeja came 10 overs later. The Gujarat-born was into the second spell of his day and started the over with match figures of 5-1-11-1. A well set Colin de Grandhomme was batting on 26 and looking to stitch a partnership with Kyle Jamieson to help his struggling team overcome the 1st innings deficit, when Jadeja bowled a beauty. Jadeja, pitched the ball on the middle and as Grandhomme went on to defend it, the ball turned sharply to hit the off stump. New Zealand were reduced to 177/8, still trailing by 65 runs.
The fourth one had to be the most relieving one for India and the most thrilling one for fans all around the globe. New Zealand’s tail was again on money and threatening to destroy India’s dream of taking a 1st innings lead. They tail went on for long, long enough to at least come very close to India’s total of 242, New Zealand were just 14 runs behind when the magic happened. Neil Wagner slashed one of Mohammed Shami’s delivery towards deep square and it had a boundary written all over it but to everyone’s amaze Jadeja did the impossible. He showed an athletic masterclass, jumping to an unexpected height from an awkward position and getting hold of the ball without losing his balance.

tan_tan_tiglo (@broke_designer) March 1, 2020
Wagner’s expression after the catch proved what a superhuman effort was put by Jadeja. Jadeja though humbly played down the hype when asked about his ‘flying catch’.
“I was expecting him to play that shot but the ball came a little faster than expected with the wind. I put my hand out there and it stuck.”
If you were to describe @imjadeja‘s blinder in a emoji, what would it be ?
We will go with #NZvIND pic.twitter.com/72y8leAlkL
BCCI (@BCCI) March 1, 2020
Shami later dismissed an attacking Jamieson, who was left reeling without a trustful partner, and India could get a 7-run lead.
At the end of Day 2, India were gasping at 90 for 6 and would surely look up to Jadeja in hope of an another gutsy performance which could take the team to a fighting total. Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja are the only established batsmen left for India to play tomorrow. While the first two are on the crease Jadeja still has to come in.
Jadeja has earlier played some knocks for India in the past which proves he can be trusted with the critical responsibility. One such instance was during India’s tour of England in 2018. England had scored 332 runs in the 1st innings and India were down at 160/6. Jadeja played an unbeaten 81-run knock then and batted till the end with taileneders including Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, taking India to 292.
Whole of India will be praying for Jadeja to replicate those performances on Monday.

India vs Australia Live Score: Rohit, Dhawan give India a solid start - cricket
India vs Australia 2nd ODI Live Score: Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have given India a solid start after Australia captain Aaron Finch won another crucial toss and had no hesitation in bowling first in Rajkot. Virat Kohli said he would have bowled first too. While Australia went in with an unchanged side, India made two changes to their side. Manish Pandey replaced Rishabh Pant while Navdeep Saini came in place of Shardul Thakur. Live score and updates, India vs Australia: 13:58 hrs IST
Change in the bowling
Kane Richardson has been introduced into the attack in the 7th over. The right-armer replaces Pat Cummins. It will be interesting he mixes his pace up at the start of his spell. Cummins may come in from the other end like the other day though. 13:54 hrs IST
Beauty from Rohit
FOUR! “An absolute beauty that shot,” says Sunil Gavaskar in commentary and he is spot on. Everything right about that cover drive from Rohit Sharma - high elbow, positive foot forward and the bat face opening just a little to give the ball guidance. Pure class from Rohit Sharma. 13:48 hrs IST
Another boundary for Dhawan
FOUR! Poor stuff from Starc. A juicy half volley down the leg side and Dhawan is not going to miss out on an opportunity like that. He unleashes a booming flick shot and times it to perfection. Zampa at the fine leg boundary did his best but there was too much force in that shot. 13:42 hrs IST
Rohit finds touch
FOUR! Just a flick off his legs and the ball races away for a boundary through long leg area. Cummins was guilty of straying down the leg side and Rohit was up for it. Super timing from the bat of Rohit . The Indian openers are looking solid here. 13:40 hrs IST
Dhawan gets going
A full face of the bat sends the ball screaming back down the ground and Shikhar Dhawan gets cracking with a lovely drive. He has runs behind his back and should look to kick on a play a decisive innings here in Rajkot. 13:35 hrs IST
Top over
Pat Cummins on the money right away. Rohit has played it out with caution. Australia will not let go of this momentum easily, India have to do all the running in this series. 13:30 hrs IST
Out come the players
The crowd is buzzing, Aaron Finch has lead his side out onto the field. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan march out. These two have to give India a start, a platform has to be built. India need to hit the ground running with a lot of intensity. Pat Cummins will run in with the new ball. 13:10 hrs IST
Landmarks
Virat Kohli needs a century to go past Ricky Ponting and become the first cricketer to score 42 centuries across formats as captain. Also, he will equal Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most centuries against Australia. 13:08 hrs IST
Playing XIs
India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(c), Lokesh Rahul(w), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit BumrahAustralia (Playing XI): David Warner, Aaron Finch(c), Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Ashton Turner, Alex Carey(w), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa 13:06 hrs IST
Kohli speaks
We would’ve bowled first as well. But the good thing is that there’s not much dew. It looks really nice and hard. If we put enough runs on the board, we have a good chance of defending. You will be beaten comprehensively by sides like Australia at the International level. It’s about understanding what went wrong. We need to focus on the positives. We are going to be more brave than the last game, that’s for sure. Couple of changes. One forced change; Rishabh is out with a concussion. KL will don the gloves and Manish comes in for Rishabh. Also, Saini replaces Shardul. 13:04 hrs IST
Finch wins the toss
Another huge toss won by Australia and Finch has decided to bat first. Kohli would have done the same. India have included Manish Pandey and Navdeep Saini in place of Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur. 12:55 hrs IST
The areas India need to fix
The batting order, the bowling depth and more power in the middle order. There is plenty for the Indian team to work on in Rajkot. Here in this article. we speak about the issues which top the list. 12:42 hrs IST
The Kohli vs Zampa battle
The leggie has accounted for the Indian captain as many as 6 times in limited overs cricket (ODIs abd T20I combined) and this has given the game an interesting subplot. Zampa believes Kohli struggles against the leg-spinners early on in his innings. Here is what he said. 12:39 hrs IST
India’s predicted XI
Where will Virat Kohli bat? Will India go in with 5 bowlers? Will Kedar Jadhav come back into the fray? Here is how we believe India could line up for the second ODI. 12:14 hrs IST
What about the weather
The weather in Rajkot will be pleasant. Temperatures will hover around mid 20s and hence, dew could play a part in the match. Thus, the toss will be very important. Read more about the conditions on offer. 12:03 hrs IST
Pant’s replacement
Young Andhra wicket-keeper KS Bharath has been named Rishabh Pant’s replacement. Pant had suffered a blow on his head when he was batting in the first ODI in Mumbai. Rahul is expected to do the wicket-keeping duties in this match. Read more about the developments here. 11:46 hrs IST
Quotes from the camps
Adam Zampa: “We have spoken about this series and how big this series is, particularly after the disappointing end to the World Cup. We can achieve something pretty special here. It’s going to be a big deal if we can get two away series wins in a row in India, so we have spoken about that briefly.”Shreyas Iyer: “Well it happens that (sometimes) you are not prepared. Well, the country was not prepared to see us collapsing in such situations but it is a part and parcel of the game. You have to take it in your stride and move forward.” 11:35 hrs IST
Series on the line
The famed Australian aura returned at the Wankhede Stadium and they trampled all over India. The hosts are now under pressure to salvage pride and stay afloat in the series. Australia can sense another series victory and as per their own confession, winning two series in India on the bounce is a massive achievement.Rajkot is a proper belter and expect another high-scoring affair. Top 5 Best Fielders in Cricket
Cricket is a sport which connects with its fans, emotionally. It is the second most popular sports in the world, catching the imagination of many. Unfortunately, the sport is associated with only two aspects, batting and bowling. We always end up overlooking one of the most critical departments of this beautiful game: FIELDING. Fielding plays a massive role in winning matches and has time and again proven its importance in the cricketing arena. Kapil Dev’s spectacular catch in the 1983 World Cup Final or the magical run-out in the 1992 World Cup by Jonty Rhodes are some of the biggest examples of how decisive fielding can be.
Fielding requires plenty of athleticism, focus, and exceptional reaction time. To not be flinched by deliveries hit at a tremendous pace requires commendable courage. Traditionally ignored by many, most of the teams are stressing on having fit players capable of saving every possible boundary, taking every potential catch in their side. MS Dhoni may be thought of as the proponent of this trend after he famously led to the ouster of some of Indian cricket’s greatest but evidently unfit cricketers in return for young but athletic players. Here is the list of 9 best fielders in the world:
Read More: Cricket Fielding Positions
5. VIRAT KOHLI
Virat Kohli is arguably the best batsman in international circuit at the moment. His batting skills have made him deservedly earn the sobriquet of “Greatest Of All Time”(G.O.A.T). Ever since Virat Kohli is at the helm of things, the Indian Cricket Team has gone through a transition. Fitness is of prime importance if you are to stay in the fray of selection into the team. And Virat has always lead by example. He is the fittest cricketer at the present moment, and his sharp sense in the field has aided in brilliant run-outs and mind-boggling catches. One such example of sensational catches is when he indulged himself in a day-light heist of Dinesh Karthik’s wicket in an IPL 2019 match. His brilliance in the field speaks volumes of his athleticism which is a result of hard work, grit and determination.
4. RAVINDRA JADEJA
What Jonty Rhodes is to South Africa, Ravindra Jadeja is to India. Batsmen at all times have second thoughts on striking a shot into a region where Jadeja is fielding. The Saurashtra cricketer has one of the safest hands in the world, making him one of the best fielders in the world. His ability to pull off sensational catches in the deep regions with his hawk eyes on the ball at all times has garnered him praises from all cricket pundits in the world. Jadeja’s throws from the deep are a connoisseurs’ delight, without an iota of doubt. His run-out of Shoaib Malik in the ICC Champions Trophy has been widely regarded as one of the game-changing moments of that match.
3. AB DE VILLIERS
Apart from being an explosive 360-degree batsman, AB De Villiers is also a very swift fielder. His agility and stunning reaction time is what makes him an exceptional fielder in the cover region. Part of his explosive presence on the field may be due to the fact that de Villiers played numerous sports like swimming, tennis, and hockey. Over the 13-year-long career, ABD has an astonishing 217 catches to his name, although it is partly because he played as wicketkeeper. ABD, thus, is an automatic inclusion in the top 10 list of the best fielder in the world.
2. SURESH RAINA
Raina’s instinct in the field and his all-round fielding performance are a treat to watch on any given day. Raina made his debut back in 2005 and has been a prominent figure on the field ever since. He has taken a total of 102 catches in ODI cricket, and 86 catches in the IPL, making him one of the best catchers of the ball in the league. He also bagged the Best Catcher Award in the IPL for two years. Though he may not be in the frame of things for the Indian Cricket Team, one cannot overshadow Raina’s valuable contributions in the field and will certainly go down as one of the best fielders in the world of all time.
In an interview, legendary fielder Jonty Rhodes himself confessed of being a Suresh Raina fan. “I have been a massive fan of Suresh Raina, for forever; ever since he started playing,” he told ICC website.
“I know what the conditions of the fields are in India, and every time he practices, every time he dives, it’s gonna be so much of heat. He doesn’t even give a second hesitation of should I have dived or shouldn’t have dived,” he added.
1. JONTY RHODES
What makes Jonty Rhodes an undisputed monarch of fielding is his raw athleticism, agility, impeccable throw and brilliance at the backward point region – the toughest position to field in. Toughest because of the minimum reaction time that is needed to take wickets. Blink and you miss the ball. Mastering this very spot is a dream of any fielder. But Rhodes championed fielding here like the back of his hand.
At times, Rhodes appeared to defy the rules of science. His ability to almost suspend himself in the air to pluck that precious catch is a sheer delight to watch. Rhodes holds the world record for taking the most number of catches (5) in a single World Cup game (for non-wicket-keeping players).
Not only his catching but Rhodes’ was equally at inflicting runouts at an astonishing rate. His dismissal of Inzamam-ul-Haq in the 1992 World Cup where he darted like a bullet from the point region and flung in the air like a bird to unearth the three stumps is probably the most iconic run out in the history of cricket.

I do not suppose lots of people believed us. It was a extremely sluggish wicket and if something it acquired higher to bat as soon as it rained. “The massive boys up entrance had been implausible getting these three wickets and from there it was good to be forward of the sport. Jadeja and Dhoni practically took it away from us. There was some brilliance on the market, the catch of Neesham, the run-out of Guptill with out even the keeper there. These highlights in a number of years’ time shall be one thing the staff will always remember.” Previous to the match, Taylor had spoken of making an attempt to emulate Chris Gayle and seem in a fifth World Cup on the age of 39. The 11th version of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is lower than 3 months away and everybody appears to be moderately occupied with the approaching season. The money-rich league up to now ten seasons has been widely recognized to convey unknown ability to the limelight.
The previous Indian explosive opener Virender Sehwag just lately sat down with Occasions of India and mentioned IPL, praised the idea that of IPL and rated it as probably the most perfect platforms in Indian cricket. Sehwag additionally discussed that IPL fast-tracked the fewer recognized ability to the Indian dressing room.
The retired nice, now a mentor of Kings XI Punjab, may be beautiful transparent in regards to the gamers who can be in call for within the IPL public sale, scheduled in Bangalore on January 27 & 28.
“Ben Stokes, Dwayne Bravo and Mitchell Starc are the world gamers everybody needs. I received’t be stunned if Stokes is going for round $1.five million. I be expecting the capped India gamers to fetch round Rs10-12cr too. A number of the uncapped gamers, Krunal Pandya and Deepak Hooda can be in call for,” he predicted.
Whilst talking in regards to the ‘wishlist’ of his personal franchise, he stated: “I believe the fanatics would wish Punjab stars like Yuvraj and Harbhajan Singh within the Kings XI crew,” he stated. He doesn’t trust critics who really feel that Yuvraj is now previous his perfect.
“He’s no longer within the Indian crew, however Yuvraj remains to be an incredible participant. His ability is unbroken. Even a present India participant can lose shape. I don’t suppose we’ll get a participant like him once more. If his shape his just right, he’s a match-winner.”
Can he nonetheless make a comeback into the Indian crew? “That’s as much as the selectors. If he plays in home cricket, or passes (yoyo), then why don’t you? If Ashish Nehra could make a comeback at 36, why no longer Yuvi,” Viru fired again.
Sehwag additionally printed why KXIP retained just one participant, India left-arm spinner Axar Patel.
Viru stated, “We will use the ‘Proper to Fit’ card to retain Glenn Maxwell and David Miller. We felt that if Axar is going into the public sale, we could have to pay a lot more to shop for him, since he’s an India all-rounder.”
“After we purchased him, he used to be an uncapped participant. Now he’s this sort of succesful participant, that he’s overtaken Ravindra Jadeja to be part of the Indian One-day and T20 facets,” Sehwag added.

India vs. New Zealand | It could well be an engaging battle of attrition

India vs. New Zealand | It could well be an engaging battle of attrition
You step into Basin Reserve and memories of another day flash before your eyes.
The year was 2002 and India was taking on New Zealand in the first Test of the series at this breathtaking ground flanked by hills.
Beautiful and brutal
In the middle, the duel between the gladiatorial Shane Bond, bowling with the wind, and the ice-cool Rahul Dravid, was both beautiful and brutal.
Bond — athletic, rhythmic and hostile — got the ball to climb viciously and Dravid, a combination of heart and technique, rose on his toes, took the weight off the bottom hand and kept the lifters down with skill and class.
It was a combat of searing intensity. Dravid’s 76 was worth more than a hundred but India eventually lost the Test.
That was also a Basin Reserve track that offered assistance to the seamers in both the innings.
Subsequently, the pitch here has changed in character. These days, much about dishing out winning cricket at the Basin is how a team performed in the second innings.
There is a covering of grass on the pitch for the forthcoming first Test and the two teams should be close to being bowled out in their first innings by day two.
It’s in the second innings as the surface eases out that the real game begins.
There is less deviation off the track for the seamers, the pitch becomes slower and runs flow off the blade.
Then it boils down to strategy and execution of plans. The strong wind, who bowls with and against it, could be critical to the outcome.
This said, the surface for the India-New Zealand game, a part of the World Test Championship, could be different in character.
The track might be harder underneath, offering bounce to the seamers even after the effect of the grass covering wears off following the first two days.
The host has announced its 12 for the Test, with Matt Henry missing the cut. Left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel should get the nod over Daryl Mitchell, a seam-bowling all-rounder.
The Mumbai-born Patel could keep one end locked up, bowling against the wind. There could be dip and drift for the spinners.
Value of starts
Both sides will realise the value of starts, particularly with the Kookaburra ball in operation. The Kookaburra’s seam is not as pronounced as that of Duke, and the ball tends to do less after the first 20 overs.
This is precisely why the Indian opening pair of Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw has to prevent the Kiwi pacemen from making early inroads.
The back-in-action Trent Bount and Tim Southee form a potent left-right combination of swing bowlers who can exploit chinks.
The Kiwis will miss Neil Wagner’s hustling ways but has, in Kyle Jamieson, a lanky seamer with pace, bounce and an off-stump line.
The Indians have the batting, led by skipper Virat Kohli, to combat the conditions and the attack, and a seam attack that can hurt.
Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami can open up the Kiwi line-up.
Much for the host hinges on skipper Kane Williamson’s innings-building skills and the 100-Test man Ross Taylor’s strokeplay. Tom Latham and Colin de Grandhomme could also prove audacious with their shots.
Catching in the slips will be of great importance for both sides. Again wind will be a factor.
The teams (from):
India: Virat Kohli (Capt.), Mayank Agarwal, Prithivi Shaw, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk), R. Ashwin, Mohhamed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Navdeep Saini and Shubhman Gill.
New Zealand: Kane Williamson (Capt.), Tom Latham, Tom Blundell, Henry Nicholls, Ross Taylor, Colin de Grandhomme, B-J. Watling (wk), Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel, Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson and Daryl Mitchell.
Umpires: Richard Kettleborough & Aleem Dar, TV Umpire: Michael Gough; Match Referee: Ranjan Madugalle.
Match starts at 4 a.m. IST.

Team India discard Suresh Raina has been named as the vice-captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). Raina earlier captained now dysfunctional Gujarat Lions for the past two seasons as CSK was banned from the cash-rich league due to spot-fixing.The yellow brigade, who are making a comeback after two-year hiatus retained MS Dhoni as their captain with whom they have won two trophies and reached four finals.Apart from Dhoni and Raina, CSK also retained Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
"MS Dhoni is going to be the captain, I'm going to be the vice-captain, Jadeja is also going to be there. Then there are certain players in the auction. We all will be having a meeting soon and then decide what planning we will be having for the auction," Raina told India Today. The IPL 2018 auction will be taking place on January 27-28 and with team sheet already in hands of both Dhoni and Raina, the franchises will be bidding aggressively to make some quality signings in the auction."I have already got the sheet, I'll have a go through it, MS will also go through it. “CSK is very special and I think we have done pretty well in Yellow. The crowds and fans have been fantastic in Chennai and have always given me and the team unconditional love and support. Chennai, I always say, is my second home,” said Dhoni.
Raina, meanwhile, said that he missed the Chepauk crowd over the last two years.“Vanakkam Chennai! Good to be back to CSK after two years. And, looking forward to playing in front of my beautiful crowd and knowledgeable crowd, what I’ve missed the last two years. See you out there, in Chepauk Stadium," said Raina.
Happy with his CSK reunion, Jadeja said,"Hi guys, I’m really excited and very happy to be a part of the CSK team again. So, hopefully, guys, you enjoy our action and we will try and win as many games as (possible) for CSK. Whistle Podu!" CSK have won the IPL title twice in 2010 and 2011.
