Explaining how, within the Lancer universe, paracausal technology actually works mathematically
Long story short, imaginary numbers
Below the cut is my yap
So...hi! Im not a mathematician. If any mathematicians read this, feel free to correct me!
Welcome to Algebra 2 and graphing; as you likely know, graphs are meant to represent physical space. You have x, y, and z of course as our axes.
If you have ever had to solve for a graph, you know the solutions are based upon the number of sides.
I will be discussing this from the point of view of an XY graph, as I haven't gotten to learn how to accurately solve a graph of three dimensional space.
Let's say, for instance, we have a polynomial graph that's degree is x^3. This graph will have three roots, three zeros. However, this does not mean there will be three points in which the line will pass 0 on the graph.
This is where we get into imaginary numbers.
Mathematically impossible solutions which must exist due to the equation they are attached to.
These zeros do not exist on the graph, but still do exist theoretically within the solutions.
What does this have to do with paracausality?
EVERYTHING
Ra himself is, canonically, impossible to have been calculated in real space.
Imaginary numbers are not present within real space, real solutions.
One simultaneous miscalculation, one simultaneous decision of one imaginary zero being counted as a real solution
This also explains the function of Blink Gates
The way blink gates warp space, these are those imaginary zeros. Blink space is where imaginary nunbers are the solutions.
It doesn't make sense because it should be impossible to be a real solution
Going further, the function of the Ushabti Omnigun and the Sisyphus-Class NHP can also both be explained through the usage of imaginary numbers
Alright
So
There's my theory anyways. I hope yall enjoyed this. Do correct me if the explaination seems off.

(WARNING; SPOILERS FOR THE PIRATE KING⚠️⚠️⚠️)
I got to the part where winter has reached Luskan and all the people under Ship Rethnor’s protection are being fed “strange meat” and “mushrooms” (forgot the exact descriptions) to keep them from starving.
And I’m just now walking my dog a couple hours later, thinking about it, and that along with all the other hints about the darkness and the dwarf and all of that click—
JARLAXLE FUCKING BAENRE

i remember seeing an interview with nate where he was talking about the creative process. and he said that whenever he needed a scene to be more comedic, he would just ask bow's VA to add in a voice crack while recording his lines. which shows us how much effort they put into writing good comedy (or heck, good anything) for the show.

Was listening to the everything everything discography on shuffle (i have spotify poor only ok sorry) and Bad Friday came on right after Violent Sun and it felt like a revelation??? Because ok. Re-Animator ends with Violent Sun, and then Bad Friday is the first new music we hear from EE after that, and I wonder what story that tells??? I feel like a lot of people were drawing parallels on fb when this happened also...
Thematically both songs are similar - something about a relationship taking you out of reality, and while on one hand, violent sun feels a whole lot more positive than bad friday - "and she's saying you don't have to be a lunatic or an error or a prisoner of your terror" - there's violent imagery in both of them.
VS: obviously the violent sun, the violent arms, "the flesh in the machinery jams" - a fairly visceral image (but also i wonder if u could ponder cough cough's cog next to a cog next to a pit???? Someone should do webweaving for machinery imagery), "they come to take away the rest of our hands" - removing part of your body is quite violent? But also maybe the removal of agency....
In BF, the violence feels less abstract and more ominous... "looking for me"/"coming for me"/"hunting me down" vs "running for my life"... and "bust me out of my head" both as a literal statement of a wound but also the sense of becoming unconscious or unknowing - you're no longer you when you don't know what you're doing... and of course the "blood all over me!"
And theres this concept of not being able to put your finger on it -some vagueness in VS's explicit statement of "and you realise you don't know how long", and the almost slurring imagery in listed items: "dreams and the colour and the moment" "and the tears and the venom and the plasma". In BF, there's the repetition of "I could not remember in the morning" "I'm wondering" "I can't remember", "You must have" (where it's more of a guess than a statement), the lack of surety of whether it was a Friday or a Saturday night and the fact that the speaker keeps asking questions...
Also the key-est parallel in 'you know this will be gone in the morning' vs 'i could not remember in the morning'?? One feels like youre still in a dream and havent realised whether its bad or good yet (the fact that at the end of the day despite the tender imagery of her taking [you] into her arms, they're still 'violent'), and the other really feels like youre waking up from a (potentially lived) nightmare...
I guess these songs are so interesting to look at in parallel because they have pretty similar imagery but are executed in such different ways - i think the sonic choices have a lot to do with it but i do not have the expertise in analysing music to bring that into the argument. (Somehow they're sister songs to me - there's something about the driving rhythms and the feeling that you're running (toward? Away??) from something) and also the fact that theyre on the poppier side of ee's discography???)
Violent Sun closes off an album that deals with feeling in a more abstract sense with so much monster imagery - making it feel a whole lot more fantastical. Bad Friday, while not the album opener, does bring us into the world of Raw Data Feel - one where personal/interpersonal relationships are dealt with more directly (see the Kevin/Jennifer/Raymond narrative situation) and also life in the digital age (think about how the only way the speaker in BF has proof is the photos theyve got on their smartphone? Though it's not the most obvious theme in the song) which kind of brings us back down to earth... (and away from the sun???)

I'd add on the JLD being the only people they would trust because of Phantom, I mean this is John Constantine and Zatanna's and the others turf, Dark Spooky stuff. adding on that snippet of Where Phantom and JC are on a semi first name basis and JL is the only one pretty much BANNED Banned from Amity Park. JLD knows how dangerous it is to get the ghost king perceive one as a threat much like how (as far as I've read) Danny & Amity Park sees the JL, so they'd try their all to be on the good books by the ghost king.
Then there's the mention of Danny getting adopted By Ra's which in my mind concludes to Bad Parents Jack and Maddie Fenton. Ra's also adopting Danny would make Danny as Talia's Brother which is genius, depending on what comes out of their relationship, either close or neutral (I'd prefer close, that's so much more fun) Danny could be Damian's Uncle = to Danny teaching Damian some stuff on the How to Be Normal Guidebook 101.
Jazz if she also gets adopted by the Al Ghul's would be beneficial as the Fandom collectively agrees she is an amazing therapist. We all need Therapists much like Jazz.
The teens and children of Amity Park no they are not normal, too much exposure to the ectoplasm floating in the air, too much for growing and changing bodies.
Nothing real out there, maybe someone has too sharp of teeth, maybe someone has double eyelids, just slightly off. Nothing too big.
Unless it's the Fenton children but they live with the source of the city’s problems right under their bedrooms and are in constantly near the pure form of the stuff.
So most just turned a blind eye to Danny phasing through the trash can again or Jazz's not too subtle of a growing obsession.
Its fine...they've adapted...they've grown used to all of it.
But now, the GIW have grown more and more interested in everyone's developments and with the current laws basically condemning anything or anyone with ecto...the situation is getting worse.
Kids have started disappearing, pulled out of classes by the agents declaring they were just 'checking on possible contamination illness, your friends will be returned when we fix them.'
No one has returned...the parents feel helpless against these men that are being protected by the law. The mayor refuses to answer to the growing concerns and desperate pleadings from families who want their family back together.
Reaching for outside help as fallen through, the Justice League ignoring calls for help, blocking any calls from the city...
There is one last chance...it probably won't work but everyone is so desperate at this point...
Danny is aware of other portals, resting pools, tiny tears here and there, exploring and mapping them out. So he might have stumbled across a certain pit...not that he stayed long with how...dirty...it was but it was enough to know who took care of it.
Maybe they would be willing to help...
Ra's al Ghul is currently staring at a letter asking for his help, delivered by some kind of ghastly creature that had emerged form the pits before it disappeared into thin air.
A call from desperate children who wish to exchange protection for a fresh source of Lazarus Water.
The small vial in his hand holds a sample of what they offer, its thicker then his own pits and glows even more vibrate...a tempting lure indeed...
Ok I funky fic writers do your magic because there’s no way I can add to the true fucking masterpiece that is this prompt without sullying it.

I am deeply offended by this! I was reading thoughts on what D&D classes the characters of The Mummy (1999) would be, and there was a comment that Jonathan was obviously a rogue, but either a badly built one or one with shit dice rolls. And! Excuse you? Jonathan is a perfectly acceptable rogue! He rolls fine when he’s actually attempting to do something!
In the first movie alone, some of his greatest hits:
Successfully pickpocketed Rick on their first meeting, without Rick so much as joining the dots until later.
Survives a pitched battle on a burning ship without a scratch, and somehow gets the key from a burning hook-handed enemy mook in the process. (“And did I panic? I think not!”)
Survives a pitched battle in the Hamunaptra ruins while drunk, through liberal use of cover and picking off targets at range.
Rolls a Nat 20 on his deception check to avoid being massacred by a large group of hynotised enemies in the museum.
Survives the final pitched battle with the undead (again, through liberal use of cover, hiding and running).
Successfully makes his intelligence roll to translate the Book of Amun Ra (with the Help action from Evie).
Successfully uses the resulting control over the undead mooks to even out the battlefield, including the genius brain move of sending them after Ankh-Su-Namun to both save Evie and distract Imhotep.
Successfully pickpockets a lich while being strangled by him to regain the key and enable Evie to use the book to banish Imhotep altogether.
Yes, he’s fairly flimsy in direct battle, and if at all possible refuses to get to melee range with anybody. So he’s a ranged rogue, and has a tendency to use the environment to his advantage. But he’s clearly designed around Sleight of Hand, Charisma, and a decent sprinkling of Intelligence, and prefers to use object interactions and battlefield control to even out his odds. For all that, though, he fully will stay in melee range if he has no other choice, and take the opportunity to pickpocket the BBEG while he’s at it.
He's a perfectly serviceable rogue, he’s just not optimised for straight combat. And even there, as the second movie shows, he’s excellent at ranged combat. He just doesn’t like getting up close and personal.
