#rant about the wiki

ANNOYED!!

This is just a rant, so ignore it if you don't care, or offer counter opinions if you feel up to it.

Anyway... I like RWBY, it's a neat little show, and has some interesting ideas, and I'll be honest even though I stopped watching it after the Haven Story Arc... I love writing using its world. Yes, I know, shocker. But when you consider nothing I really have written uses anything after "the Fall"... it was probably obvious.

Anyway, I like the potential of RWBY. Which is what brings me to this rant... I DETEST the lack of information, not only on the Grimm (biology - physiology) but Remnant's history. Case in point, I want to do a story about Jaune and a Tank (BTW thank you to everyone who voted... Jaune is going to be using the Sherman V "Firefly") sort of along the lines of "Girls Und Panzer". I wanted the hook for the tank and Jaune to be that it was used by a member of his family during the "Great War".

Okay that is doable... except according to the Wiki the great war... fought over 80 years ago... was fought using bows, arrows, swords, axes and the like. IE Medieval style warfare. Okay... so maybe... but nope. It seems there is no "technological" timeline... we go from simple weapons like Crocea Mors to mega-mechashift like Crescent Rose. We have airships and cars (I think) with Atlas showing off having a Mech (the Paladin) but there's nothing in between.

To me, the progress from soldiers on horse back to mech-suits needs some in between tech... maybe like tanks? I know the "weapons" in the show are more to be "cool" than anything. I get it... but it bums me out when I have an idea and I have to either totally ignore the wiki, or scrap my plan.

Case in point, I have a story on my FF.net profile called "Monster". There is a MASSIVE battle/grimm attack during it, where I basically had to create Atlas' military forces. I was forced to pull things from our real world that would be good "stepping stones" for the stuff shown in the show.

I mean, the battle was massive... I had Atlean forces attacking the encroaching horde for hours before they reached the walls, using A-10's, Spooky gunships, and some WW2 fighter planes. Likewise, I mean when the horde was closing on the walls, I had to make "jumps of logic" due to some of the tactics I had Atlas use to defend itself (IE Nerve Gas, Mustard Gas, Fuel-Air-Bombs).

I had to totally ignore the "Great War" Tech, and go with things I felt a military superpower would have in its arsenal... even throwing in a tidbit about how the "chemical agents" were in violation of the Vytal Peace Treaty.

I know in fan-fiction we take creative licence... but there is a part of me that wished RT had done more world building. I stand by my choices in "Monster" but I still feel like I'm doing a disservice to the core material by having to add so much.

Like I said, this is a rant just to vent, not a serious discussion, but if you feel like pointing out things I have missed/overlooked, feel free to do so. Or ignore me. It's going to take me time to work out how to do the "RWBY-Girl UND Panzer" in a way I like or makes sense to me.

okay now that i'm no longer trying to keep a project secret from certain people i can complain publicly about a thing i've been losing my mind about:

listen. i know. i know fandom wikis being decent entirely relies on whether there are people who both want to obsessively categorize things enough to fill out the wiki, with the free time to do that kind of obsessive categorization, and the desire to manage it all as a wiki. believe me, i know. but please i'm just trying to do research please, please at least bigb's page was just Entirely Empty so i knew i had useless information and just left. why the fuck did the mafia's page, by contrast, have this:

a sentence that is actively LESS USEFUL THAN IF IT WERE NOT THERE.

Saw Inside Out 2 today and when the high school hockey team was introduced I briefly got really excited cuz I was like "firehawks like the University of Albuquerque Basketball team thats in all the high school musical movies??" Nah the UofA team is called the RedHawks.

Also UofA is like technically fictional? closed in the 80s, but their sports were all cut by 69. And they were never the Redhawks, but rather "the dons". So in the world of High School Musical, University of Albuquerque is still around by 2008 at the latest, but also they have a well known basketball team dubbed the Redhawks.(also their colors seemed to be red and white like east high, but irl it was blue and gold)

That being said UofA was a liberal arts school so Troy easily coulda been doin music and sports im just saying he did not need to make a big deal outta the whole "having to pick" thing

literally like. 1/3 is horror. 1/3 is dust. and then the last is killer. in that order. the first 2 verses talk about bloodshot pain (bloodshot EYES.... Thinking about how Reaper apologized to the other tributes for having to kill them and said that he would avenge their deaths by rebelling against the capitol, but despite that, he never once killed anyone. He helped who he could, and when he found Dill's lifeless body, he gave her a proper burial. Not only that, but he got the other bodies of the other fallen tributes and gave them proper respect, then restored a bit of their humanity by taking down the capitol flag and covering their bodies. In the end, he really did avenge their deaths and get revenge on the capitol.

I honestly think people read way more into this fandom than what is really there. If I elaborate my thoughts, I fear I will get my head blown off. Also, on that way lies shipwars and shipwars are never fun. It's also not really any different than what goes on in other fandoms, every fandom ever. I'm just an old fart who thinks that fandom (all fandoms) has gotten weirder and weirder with every passing year (and wish people wouldn't mistake their headcanons for canon) and act like everyone who partakes in the media is of the same thought. Trust me, I don't expect people to share or even care about my headcanons. I'm afraid to join any Trigun discords or any type of fan-club because I'm pretty sure I disagree with the majority of the fandom on some things that people have heightened emotions about. It's to the point that I really think "people are just making their own story out of this that doesn't resemble what I watched / read" sometimes. But again, I shouldn't complain too hard, because every fandom. It's just, I don't know... this fandom scares me sometimes.

actually hate the ressie wiki for adding ada's falsified backstory from the umbrella chronicles novelization to her wiki page because it claims 'the validity of this account is questionable', leaving people who are otherwise unfamiliar with the franchise's lore who naturally peruse the wiki to assume there's a possibility ada isn't lying through her teeth in the novel, or that there's a nugget of truth hidden in her account, despite it being clearly stated otherwise pretty early on. after ada is done reciting facts about the reunification of vietnam & the treatment of the hoa people to leon the narration states succinctly that 'it had nothing to do with ada or her family in the slightest', without even mentioning the amount of times ada is surprised by how gullible leon is

i'm not even sure why they're treating the novel as a source, other than the absnece of a concrete backstory for ada, but it's like adding the dick valentine master thief background to jill's page. it isn't canon owing to the fact that it contradicts the events of the game, given there is no rendition of RE2, not even the darkside chronicles' own retelling, where ada gives her backstory upon first meeting leon in the parking garage. while the wiki does make note of two pieces of information which are true to the novel's version of ada, as they are told through ada's own thoughts about her mission in raccoon city & her work with wesker, that being the migrant workers who died because of her spreading pesticide on a sweet potato farm + her rising through the ranks of a chinese-american criminal syndicate who was crushed by the FBI, ada almost getting caught but being noticed by wesker & given the job to spy on umbrella right after, i feel like whoever's editing her wiki page didn't read the novel all the way through because they don't mention the most insane part of the whole thing, which is that ada was present for the khmer rouge in cambodia & the rwandan genocide

these aren't things i consider in my portrayal both because there's only so much real world suffering in relation to resident evil i wanna discuss on this blog, the war on terror is already so horrible that i am tiptoeing around it sometimes for the sake of not just going on about how much i hate the united states of america, & that these are narrative elements meant to show us how prepared & ready ada was for the outbreak in raccoon city which contradicts my own portrayal & both versions of RE2 where she is very much flying by the skin of her teeth clinging to desperate manipulations & leon's gullibility to make it through alive & finish her mission. it doesn't make any sense for ada to go into raccoon city having been witnesses to this amount of cruelty already, but its also a little strange to equate a fictional zombie outbreak to horrible things that have happened throughout history
