Chuuran established au where someone keeps leaving flowers and candies on Ranpo's desk every morning? Ada members set out to find who this secret admirer is (not so secret since Ranpo knows, obviously, he just won't tell anyone).

Dazai is the first to figure it out, obviously ("Chibi knows how to be romantic??" "Shut the fuck up asshole"). Kyouka is the second (Kouyou tells her how Chuuya has been asking her about flower langues recently and oh, she can connect the dots) and so naturally Atsushi is the third since she tells him everything. Kenji finds out only because he came in too early one day and caught Chuuya placing the flowers. Yosano gets it out from drunk Dazai. Tanizaki happens to bump into Chuuya while he's buying candies and wait... aren't those the candies that Ranpo san receives every day? Kunikida never figures out. He catches them red handed while they're on a date and it sends him into 3 days long internal shock. Fukuzawa asks Ranpo and he tells him.

Soukoku's first meeting could not have been written more perfectly. Allow me to explain

A quick note on the manga panels: these are fan translations from BSD Bibliophile. At one stage they refer to Dazai as 'the youngest boss in Mafia history,' and the executive meeting as 'a meeting of five bosses.' This is just a stylistic choice! All of the panels shown here are from chapters 8 (volume 2), 10 & 11 (volume 3)

I love this scene more than life itself, because it is literally the PERFECT introduction to Chuuya, his character, and his relationship with Dazai. Let's talk about it!

First: some context. Dazai seems to be in a bit of a predicament- he's walked right into a trap set by the Port Mafia, an organisation that we don't know much about at this stage in the story. What we do know, and what we can observe, is this:

Dazai is a former executive, and appears to have walked into the trap on purpose

He is now being held in a room that Akutagawa describes very negatively- the fact of being here is dangerous

Dazai reveals that Akutagawa was once his subordinate, and that he thought very lowly of him at the time. He claims to still think of him this way. Akutagawa has a violent reaction to this.

This is a PERFECT example of 'showing, not telling' within a story. Rather than making a bunch of asides, describing what Dazai and Akutagawa are feeling and why, Asagiri & Harukawa have plopped us into the middle of a rather awkward reunion. I feel like I've walked into my friend's Christmas dinner and am now witnessing family politics unfold real time. It's like watching a car crash.

Now, we move between settings a bit, jumping around to watch Yosano DESTROY Kajii, Atsushi rescue Kyouka, and subsequently be injured and kidnapped by Akutagawa. We watch the Agency fall into disarray when Fukuzawa demands that everyone go looking for Atsushi- interesting, considering that Dazai is IN THE BASEMENT OF THE PORT MAFIA RIGHT NOW.

I've had lots of discussions and arguments about the meaning and significance of this. I won't delve too deep into it for now, but the way I see it is this: something the ADA is really REALLY good at is splitting up Mystery-Inc. style and working to solve cases etc., together, but apart. Dazai is also something of a stray dog (... cat), regularly wandering off and reappearing of his own accord. He's been with the ADA for several years at this point, and they would understand the way he operates well. Even if there's no indication whether he explicitly told anyone what he's doing or where he's going (which honestly, does that matter, when Ranpo would know immediately anyway?), we can safely assume that this is more or less a regular thing for them.

Anyway, back to the point. the Agency is not fazed by Dazai's disappearance... and neither, for some reason, is Dazai. He stands chained to the wall in the PM's basement- the same one, we discover later, where he's brutally tortured countless victims and traitors, and he's humming a little tune to himself, smiling, totally relaxed. We as the audience know he's pretty unflappable, and Akutagawa's expression when he sees him confirms this, too.

But. BUT. This doesn't last.

With the ADA descending into chaos, we switch perspectives back to Dazai again. He's bored at this stage, and thinking to himself that they must be searching for Atsushi soon (an indication that he was riling Akutagawa up earlier, btw) when he hears it: A voice that makes his resolve crack. A look of panic on his face that, at this stage, we haven't seen yet.

He turns, and we see Chuuya for the first time! He's got this strange smug look on his face, something deeply vindictive. Here's a current mafia executive, and he's so happy to see Dazai chained to the wall of their Torture Basement that you can't help but wonder... is there something that Dazai did to him, personally, that makes him feel this way? Or is this guy just so deeply involved with the PM that the fact Dazai left is like a personal slight against him?

Now, we don't really have long enough to truly panic over this predicament, because almost immediately these two fall into their old habits. Dazai isn't PLEASED, but he isn't afraid. He goes right into bantering with Chuuya, who surprisingly meets him right in the middle. Their regular dynamic shines right through: it's quick-witted quips, inside jokes, and knowing looks. It's this odd relaxation in their posture. In all of this, we have an acknowledgement of what they were, and evidence to suggest that they still are... whatever that thing is. Whatever you wanna call it: partners, boyfriends, best friends, buddies. That much is up to interpretation; the only undeniable fact is that they once knew each other better than themselves, and still do.

Then, the fight. This, to me, comes across as more of a way to display how powerful they both are individually: Chuuya punches concrete so hard it shatters in several places, Dazai snaps his fingers and breaks out of handcuffs.

We have front-row seats to what is in my opinion one of the best action sequences in early BSD, not just for what physically transpires, but what it tells us: they deeply understand each other on multiple levels. They're constantly predicting each other's moves, and they know where each other's weak spots are.

But there's also been a lot of growth. Dazai surprises Chuuya a few times, and vice-versa. Despite their apparent closeness, it's still clear that they haven't been together like this for a long, long time.

Then, they reach checkmate. It appears as though Chuuya has won, and we're fed some more Dazai lore- he was the youngest executive the PM ever saw.

This is how Chuuya remembers Dazai. Again, I want to remind you that this is the first time so far we're seeing PM-zai, and he is worlds away from the Dazai we've grown to know so far.

Though Chuuya seems to have driven Dazai into a corner, the roles are quickly reversed when Dazai claims to know something about a meeting between all five of the Mafia's executives. Chuuya quickly realises this is one of his 'predictions,' further proving the depth of their mutual understanding.

With hindsight, we know just how big a deal a meeting of this scale is, and knowing a certain stormbro (who I won't reveal just in case of spoilers) will be there makes me lose my mind, personally. It clearly affects Chuuya, as well, which was undoubtedly Dazai's goal.

With the power balance disrupted again, they quickly fall back into that same bantering dynamic. The volatile nature of their relationship is so perfectly portrayed within this short scene that it actually makes me sick, I genuinely don't think it could have been more perfect

Anyway. Chuuya has realised, at this stage, that Dazai had multiple goals when he allowed himself to be kidnapped, and one of those was to piss Chuuya off (which is something I think he could've managed even if Chuuya wasn't physically there). This, in turn, pisses Chuuya off, especially when he realises the predicament Dazai has left him in- let him escape, or the Mafia suffers. A test of loyalty, Chuuya's greatest weakness. Do you understand why I am tearing my hair out and howling at the moon??? This is fucking insanity.

And then, the final moment! The part we all know and love! Not only does Chuuya choose to err on the side of caution, allowing Dazai to escape- he also leaves with the repetition of another inside joke. And Dazai laughs- he looks genuinely happy, too.

hc characters' bedtimes and sleeping habits go

Atsushi is naturally nocturnal, but his job requires him to be awake during the day.

Dazai doesn't know what a sleep schedule is. He couldn't tell you what hours he's slept or anything of that sort. He can also somehow sleep anywhere, yet nowhere at all.

Fyodor doesn't know what sleep is. if he did it would be WITH DAZ- [GUNSHOTS] [SCREAMING] [SIRENS]

Ranpo is the nap taker supreme. he's a sleeppilled napmaxxer and can fall asleep everywhere. he often curls up like a cat in his sleep or in fetal position

Yosano is a back sleeper, and needs little sleep to function right. probably a 12am-4am sleeper on good days.

Kunikida is one of those mfs that has a schedule for his sleep and urges other people to do the same. like a fucking LOSER. gets 8 hours of sleep every night

Nikolai sleeps upside down like a bat just to freak people out. he and Sigma were rooming together in a motel once and Sigma got jumpscared by Nikolai hanging from his knees in the closet.

Sigma sleeps on their back or side for around 2-4 hours each night. sleep deprived as fuck someone get them trazodone :(

you can even manipulate reality at a molecular level very similar to his, allowing you to recreate the fantasy world he creates in real life, which is incredible.

as the scarlet witch, or as an ability user with chaos magic, you are undeniably strong and powerful.

if you wanted, you could even go head-to-head with the port mafia executive who is renowned for his gravity manipulation abilities. you would win.

it truly astounds and somewhat frightens poe how the same red psionics you possess that can wreak havoc and alter reality can be so domestic and endearing when you use it to leviate him the cup of tea you made for him, or when you use it to leviate all sorts of kitchen utensils in the kitchen while you make him food.

you can be really frightening if you want to, especially if you have to fight. let's say you want to protect poe or another ability user.

poe is astounded by how quickly you transform from a sweet, kind, and somewhat shy darling into a straight-up violent force to be reckoned with.

i feel like poe would definitely be a little scared, because again, you're strong and powerful with such an ability, err, abilities?

but poe is mostly bewitched of his darling—like, you know how dazai stares at chuuya when he uses corruption?—poe has the same kind of gaze towards you whenever you use your chaos magic to the fullest.

oh, and being poe's beloved, he spoils you a lot. if poe sees you staring at a piece of clothing or jewelry, he'll get it for you in an instant. a manuscript worth millions is nothing compared to the things he buys.

i also think poe is a traditional type of lover. again, he lavishes you with gifts, and among them is a bouquet of your favorite flowers, as well as handwritten love letters and poems.

his poems might be cheesy but romantic, making you feel loved at all times. they are all about your smile, beauty, strength, and his vow and desire to love and be with you forever. poe finds your flushed cheeks and the soft giggle that escapes your lips cute as you read his poem or love letter.

being poe's beloved also entails being close to karl, which fills his heart with joy. karl actually likes you a lot. you enjoy cuddling and patting the little fella's head.

however, whenever karl clings to you more, it makes poe a little jealous, but it still amazes him (yet again) that you can easily read karl's thoughts with your special ability and communicate with him in the same way that he can, if not better.

poe had written yet another mystery novel to put his rival, edogawa ranpo, to the test once more. you both came to a halt in front of the office, you knocking because poe was shy, and it wasn't long before the door was opened.

"oh, it's poe-san!" atsushi exclaimed, "you must be looking for ranpo-san. come in, he's here!"

you trailed after poe as he entered the office, and that's when atsushi and the others realized he hadn't come sinply with karl.

all eyes were drawn to you at the same time. however, poe mistook it for everyone staring at him, prompting him to stick closer to your side, with karl, who was on his shoulder, transferring to yours instead, to which you responded by petting the top of karl's fluffy and soft head.

"hello and welcome! you must be poe-san's friend," atsushi said with a friendly smile, but he quickly realized how familiar you were, "hmm, but i feel like i've seen you before miss."

"huh, you're right atsushi-kun.." dazai exclaimed, blinking as he and the others stared at you.

but ranpo raised a brow them, "you guys seriously don't remember the three-way war?"

"three-way war?" kunikida tilted his head only for him to realize it, along with everyone, "!!!"

"i'm [surname] [name]. it's a pleasure to meet you, armed detective agency," you introduced yourself with a slight bow and a friendly smile.

"huh, i do remember seeing you during the guild war. as a matter of fact, we all did. you were there, saving everyone from the onslaught of the mind control ability that had gotten out of hand and rescuing civilians left and right," kunikida furrowed his brows.

"now that kunikida-san has mentioned it [name]-san, you were the one who saved me when i was being attacked while delivering the doll to dazai-san. you made me a forcefield and enhanced my speed with your psychic energy manipulation ability," atsushi recalled.

during the guild war, everyone remembered a young woman with [color] hair who had the ability to manipulate red psychic energy. although it was unclear whether the woman was on the guild's side or not, she had assisted numerous citizens and ability users during the incident. you played an important role in the yokohama incineration.

"ah, that? you guys flatter me too much! it wasn't a big deal. i just like to accompany and help out my boyfriend and people who need it with my wiggly-woos, that's all," you exclaimed, giggling and waving your fingers in the air.

with the exception of ranpo, who already knew the information, the armed detective agency members responded with a series of surprised looks and gasps.

"you're poe-san's significant other?!" atsushi proclaimed before bowing his head, "ah, i'm so sorry [name]-san! i didn't know!"

"mhm!" as you hummed and nodded in agreement, poe was shy by how everyone was reacting. poe blushed and turned away, holding your sleeve instead of your hand.

"well, that's.. certainly a big revelation.." dazai stated, blinking profusely.

"you guys are really idiots. idiots i say!" ranpo sighed, folding his arms across his chest, "how can [name]-chan not be poe-kun's significant other? just look at the way he sticks to her and holds her sleeve!"

"h-how are you the same person you were during the three-way war?" tanizaki asked, his sweat dripping as he remembered you being terrifying with the way your eyes and fingertips glowed red with power, your hair flowing in the breeze as you floated in the middle of the sky, and a serious expression on your face.

"what do you mean?" you tilted your head in confusion, laughing a little at his comment.

everyone was dumbfounded by your cluelessness, their sweat even dropping.

"i agree with you. sometimes my darling can be so clueless at how powerful and strong she can be with her ability," poe sighed, shaking his head as he handed his new manuscript to ranpo, "but regardless, i love [name]."

"heh, that's real sweet of you poe-kun," said ranpo before taking a look at his manuscript with a smile on his features.

Now about my favourite characters. (I won't write paragraphs about them tho)

1. Fyodor Dostoyevsky

I know that because of recent chapters, a lot of people might dislike him now and they probably do, which is understandable but personally, I love his entire character a lot and I can talk about it for decades and never get bored. He's such well written villain that I want to thank Asagiri for creating him. And I'm really excited to see more about his character and especially his backstory. I do find him relatable to certain level but no, I don't kin him. Anyway, he's my number one favourite character in Bungou Stray Dogs.

2. Ayatsuji Yukito

Many don't know him, unfortunately. He's from Bungou Stray Dogs spinoff/Gaiden. Ayatsuji Yukito is one of the smartest detective and is on the match of Ranpo. He's smarter than Fyodor and Dazai. But I don't find his smartness as appealing as his entire character in general. Like what do you mean he has entire collection of antique dolls? What do you mean he talks to his cats? What do you mean he killed 2 billion peo-- He's really amazing and admirable. Many might think that he's heartless at first but he genuinely cares about his allies/friends, he just shows it in different ways and not straightforwardly. I'm literally in love with his character and that's final. He's my second favourite one.

3. Nikolai Gogol

I'm sure plenty of people will agree with me that Nikolai is rather complex character but that complexity is what makes him likable to me. I can talk about his character for decades and just how much I relate to him and on extremely deep level. He's seriously one of the best Bungou Stray Dogs character ever made.

4. Lucy Maud Montgomery

I love her so much and I also relate to her on some extant level. It's true that she doesn't get much role in the plot (if bsd even has it atp) but the guild arc had big impact on me, especially because of this girl.

5. Akutagawa Ryuunosuke

Okey, I genuinely LOOOVEEEE his character so much. I feel like he might even be fourth my favourite but I decided to put him on fifth, probably because of my mood. His character development, his character's goal and his entire character in general is very relatable and also very well written. If you haven't noticed, I love well written characters and Akutagawa deserves place here. I will never shut up that he probably found another reason to live besides Dazai's acknowledgement in newest chapter and how he's protector by nature.

6. Tsujimura

The BEST female character I've seen (probably after Lucy). Not only is she relatable but also so well written. She's just so human in every possible that I think lot of people will find her relatable in one way or another and she's also very easy to like. No, she's not pick-me or blue Higuchi. She's one of the best agent of Special Division For Unusual Abilities. She has strong morals and values and I absolutely admire that. Aspiring to be like her.

These are my top 6 favourite characters that I'll forever love no matter what. My seventh is probably Kenji Miyazawa but I'm too lazy to write more! I also love Atsushi but I'm very bothered by the fact that he doesn't have a goal, which just makes the plot very confusing since he's a main character.

And no, I don't like Dazai at all. He's my first hated character^^

Summary - Sanemi’s taken an injury and the anesthetic Kochou gives him makes him dazed and adorable. Giyuu sticks around to look after him.

Day 4: Rainy Day

Summary - When it rains, it signifies the sorrow of the hydro dragon. Fontaine is hit with another downpour and Wriothesley seeks out Neuvillette to cheer him up.

Summary - In a modern universe, Itto crashes his motorcycle near Heizou’s job. Heizou goes to investigate, beginning the chapter of an unlikely friendship.

Summary - Sukuna is the most powerful curse in history to date. Rescuing Kamo and ensuring no harm comes to him is easy. It’s reckoning why he wants to do those things in the first place that is difficult.

Day 19: Road Trip/Motel

Relationship - Kibutsuji Muzan and his kizuki (Demon Slayer)

Summary - In a modern universe, Muzan has to travel from Kanto to Tohoku for work and brings his coworkers along. Big mistake. Douma’s too chatty, Kokushibo too quiet, Akaza too angry, and Gyutaro and Daki too needy. How is Muzan to deal with all of them?

Day 20: Reading Together

Relationship - Alhaitham/Kaveh (Genshin Impact)

Summary - Of course when Kaveh demands quality time from Alhaitham, Alhaitham suggests they read. Very well. Kaveh agrees, but it must be a romance novel.

Day 21: Outdoor Lunch

Relationship - Lynette/Navia (Genshin Impact)

Summary - Navia takes Lynette to enjoy some pastries outside.

Soukoku headcanons from my Chuuya ADA AU

-Chuuya and Dazai actually get along really well now (after spending 2 years in hiding together), the bickering is simply theatrical because Dazai is a melodramatic piece of shit. The rest of the agency simply adapted to the yelling, although they were concerned at first.

-Whenever Kunikida reprimands Dazai, Chuuya will butt in like "yeah Dazai don't jump in the river" "yeah Dazai don't do that again or you'll get fired" with the most SMUG look on his face. Kunikida almost always shouts at Chuuya for this, to which Dazai will return the smug look

-While in hiding, with nothing else to do, they watched a shit ton of reality TV to pass the time. They once stayed up for 3 days straight marathonning Keeping up with the Kardashians and love island, and they both constantly make references and jokes about it. For example:

Ranpo, *complaining about the fact he's run out of snacks to Chuuya*

Chuuya, looking over at Dazai from across the office and grinning: KIM THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING

Dazai, who was drinking coffee: *spits it all over Kunikida across the table from him*

-Again, because they had a lot of free time on their hands in hiding, they watched a lot of movies. Chuuya is a film nerd now. And Dazai is pretentiously into music the same way. They clash a lot about it. Dazai will make fun of Chuuya's favourite movies and Chuuya will respond with something like "i dont want to hear anything from the person who unironically listens to Radiohead and The Smiths."

-Fukuzawa considered partnering Chuuya and Dazai, but quickly realised that they would get no work done and it would be unproductive as hell. As such, Dazai is partnered with Kunikida, and Ranpo practically begged to be partnered with Chuuya, since now he has his own personal battering ram with a powerful ability. Fukuzawa DEFINITELY regrets this sometimes (all the time actually) because Ranpo is corrupt (affectionate) and irresponsible with his newfound authority over such power, and Chuuya is just chaos personified (he gives the agency more bad reviews than Dazai, simply because he punches first, asks questions later, like one time he punched a woman in the face bc she was suspicious when all she wanted was for them to help find her missing cat)

-Chuuya, upon learning that Fukuzawa is a martial artist too, challenged him to a fight. It is one of the only times that he's gotten his ass absolutely HANDED to him, and since that day he has respected the president immensely.

-Chuuya tried to get Fukuzawa to teach him how to wield a sword, and Fukuzawa was like "no." because the mere thought of Chuuya with a SWORD is absolutely terrifying (I cant remember who originally wrote the post I saw that had this hc in it, but whoever you are, I love u and i've adapted it into my au which I will probably never get around to writing, so thank you.) Also to add on to that, he tried to spar against fukuzawa using a sword once because "how hard can it be?" Turns out, it is very hard. He learns this through accidentally smacking himself so hard in the head with his own sword (he'd applied his ability to it) that he gave himself a major concussion and had to be hacked apart by Yosano to heal it.

-Chuuya loves animals. Sometimes of he finds a stray dog or cat in the street he'll just bring it to the agency and walk in like "GUYS GUYS LOOK WHAT I FOUND!" It used to annoy the heck out of everyone (except Ranpo bc they are partners and he is COMPLICIT FR he helps Chuuya sneak the animals into the building lol) especially Dazai because of his hatred for dogs, but once they all see how happy Chuuya is they cant bring it in themselves to say anything because THE SMILE!!

-Leading off of that, one time a bird flew into the window so Chuuya brought it inside thinking it was hurt. Him and Ranpo spent 3 hours taking care of it and feeding it seeds etc. Dazai then tried to pick the bird up, and it got spooked, flying around the office and causing absolute HAVOC for another hour until Kunikida managed to catch it with his skill.

-Atsushi's dorm was originally Chuuya's, but because both Chuuya and Dazai got so used to each other being around during their two years in hiding, and since they're together, they'd always barge in on each other and end up crashing in each others rooms (mostly Dazai's). So when Atsushi joins the ADA, Chuuya offers to give up his dorm since he basically lives with Dazai anyways. Atsushi found a stash of wine his first night in the dorm and was very confused.

Again, Atsushi is just happy to be there honestly and he's so slay for that :)

Ranpo Edogawa

"If everything's well, I'm well!"

President of the Student Council. The most powerful student in the school. The reason why he is the most powerful student is because he is Edogawa Ranpo.

Yukichi Fukuzawa

"It's peaceful... I'll prepare some sakura-mochi (cherry blossom cakes)".

He is in charge of the school.

Chancellor and headmaster of the school. He has the trust of teachers and students and is also respected by president of the Student Council, Ranpo Edogawa. He has a small wooden cat tower in his office. It seems to be a gift from someone.

Osamu Dazai

"Huh... Yeah. I still think sleeping during the day is the best."

He is the secretary general of the "Armed Student Council," but he does not do any secretarial work. His hobby is suicide. His actual age is unknown because he has been in and out of the hospital repeatedly and has not been able to stay in school. He likes to make fun of Mr. Kunikida. He does not sleep well at night.

Doppo Kunikida

"It's annoying that he hardly attends classes and only scores well on exams..."

Math teacher and advisor of the "Armed Student Council". He values ideals and is an ally of students who burn with ideals. He has a bad eyesight. Dazai often shatters his plans and ideals.

Q.1 Could you introduce yourself?

Answer: Edogawa Ranpo

Hey there, I'm Edogawa Ranpo, the student council president! You know who the student council president is, don't you? I'm the most powerful student in this school. Why is it so? Why? Because I'm the president!

Recently, a servant named Nakajima Atsushi has joined the student council! As a lackey, he even bought me sweets, which I enjoyed while sitting in my seat.

I do small chores!

I get to eat delicious snacks!

Well, Tanizaki and Yosano have been giving me sweets for a while.

The weather is nice today and the cherry blossoms are in bloom, so I'm in the mood for sakura mochi (rice cake with sakura blossoms)!

Zenzai is good too, but the mochi (rice cake) isn't sweet enough.

Mr. Fukuzawa gets mad at me if I leave the mochi alone and just eat the rest~

I am the president and headmaster of the academy. My name is Yukichi Fukuzawa. I have many things to think about to ensure that the students' youth is healthy.

The vice principal, however, keeps looking out from the headmaster's office, the science teacher Kajii makes fruit bombs in class, Dazai annoys Kunikida by attempting suicide, the stray cat in the schoolyard is always pining for an intern, Ranpo leaves only rice cakes in his Zenzai... All these things make my head hurt...

(Ok, I will explain this "Ranpo only leaves rice cakes in his Zenzai...", Zenzai is basically mochi (rice cake) with red bean paste, Ranpo does not like to eat mochi because it is not "sweet enough", this was also mentioned in the last lines of Ranpo's answer).

My name is Kunikida Doppo. I'm a mathematics teacher.

I'm also the advisor of the Armed Student Council. The "Armed Student Council" has a demon named Osamu Dazai, who appears out of nowhere and smashes my plans and ideals to pieces. He knows the amount of my paycheck, and when it comes payday, he threatens me with a story about my misbehavior at the faculty year-end party... No, it's nothing. It's not the kind of thing you tell people.

Recently, a new student, Nakajima Atsushi, has joined the group, so I have him report to me whenever something happens. I have to keep a bell on the fool who tries to die at any moment.

I had some free time earlier, so Miss Yosano and I tested which hamburger steak had more cheese in it and which had more cheese on top.

It was too much of a hassle to alternate between the two, so we ended up eating the hamburger steak with cheese on top and the one with cheese on the inside! Cheese everywhere!

Miss Yosano was eating the hamburger and I was eating the cheese, and when I asked her for some, she gave me some.

After lunch at the principal's office, Mr. Fukuzawa gave me a sakura mochi (rice cake with cherry blossoms).

I ate it while looking out the window at the cherry blossoms.

There was a tortoiseshell cat in the wooden cat tower today. Hmmm.

Nice weather. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom.

The wind was calm, so I opened the window and thought I would have lunch while viewing the cherry blossoms, when little Mii came out of nowhere.

He lay down at the base of the cat tower and I was trying to decide whether it was OK to touch him or not, when Ranpo wandered over.

He started to spread out his lunch box in front of the window and we ate it together. After lunch, he started to beg me to share some of the sakura-mochi I had left behind. I had no choice but to share it with him. It was a nice afternoon.

Kenji was sleeping on his stomach at lunchtime, perhaps because he was full, so I took off my jacket and put it over him. What if he gets indigestion? Tanizaki told me that tomorrow afternoon we would have lunch with members of the Armed Students Council for a cherry blossom viewing party, so we divided up the roles of who was going to bring what. I am grateful that his sister, who is always very attentive, is involved, although sometimes things get a bit confusing. I wonder how long Nakahara, a transfer student, will be wearing his old uniform. Sakaguchi, a member of the public morals committee, is always chasing him around. Dazai was attending classes. He's gone more often than not, but he seems to be attending the school diligently these days. I don't know why, and it's not very nice. I'm not sure what he's thinking.

I also saw Atsushi take a coughing Akutagawa to the nurse's office. What a nice guy to take care of him. (These bitches gay, good for them, good for them)

I was taking the class seriously, but halfway through I got bored and was lying down in the cherry blossom petals when young Atsushi found me. I was taken to the Armed Student Council room, so I thought I'd have another sleep there, but then I found a stuffed animal I'd never seen before. I thought about using it as a pillow, but when I looked at it more closely, I realized that it looked like my neighbor’s, so I decided to put it under my head. Mr. Ranpo said I could take it home if I liked it, so I decided to take it home.

After that, Mr. Kunikida came to the Armed Student Council room, so I made fun of him by putting fingerprints on his glasses and teaching him false health tips. Fufufu, Mr. Kunikida is always energetic, isn't he?

Q3 Is there anything you want to do tomorrow?

Answer: Edogawa Ranpo

I want to solve some interesting mystery! Murder is out of my scope because it's too dangerous for people to die, but I wonder... if there are any truths about the world or mysteries that would make my heartbeat faster somewhere out there. Oh, and that's right. Let's polish up the glasses Mr. Fukuzawa gave me! Kunikida always wipes the lenses of his glasses clean.

I ask him to lend me a cloth that can be used to clean up.

It would be nice if Kunikida said he would come to the cherry blossom viewing tomorrow!

Well, now that that's decided, let's go to bed early!

a/n: no real reason for me writing this other than the fact that i’m depressed and need to procrastinate on my studies and other WIP’s dklajdlas hope you guys like this (there might be a pt. 2)

akutagawa is Banned from drinking coffee. mori himself forbids him from ever drinking it

thats because the first time he drank it (in a meeting when chuuya was serving coffee) he just went completely fidgety and broke the ceiling with rashomon

so no coffee for him. ever.

higuchi tries to quit coffee too because akutagawa-senpai doesn’t drink. she ended up crying on day 3 without coffee

also, contrary to what everyone thinks, akutagawa is very much a cat person

he doesn’t go out of his way to pet cats but he thinks they’re cool and doesn’t mind if they rub themselves against his legs

and then fukuzawa was walking around and found akutagawa pretty much doing nothing and is yet still surrounded by cats and he feels so fUCKING BETRAYED

he carries cat snacks and everything AND THE CATS STILL WON’T NOTICE HIM

fukuzawa feels a bit better about atsushi wrecking akutagawa’s ass in their first fight

ranpo visits the convenience store near his house SO MUCH that all the employees already know him by name

ranpo thus makes it a point to remember their names and ask a lot of personal questions about their life that he just randomly deduced

sometimes he opens the snacks and eats them already without paying for them but they let ranpo off the hook

dazai actually knows how to play the keytar. he learned back when he was in the mafia because it pissed off chuuya so much

he also cuts his hair by himself but it always ends up disaster so he calls kunikida to help him 

at first kunikida’s like ‘no it’s not in my schedule’ but dazai sends him a pic and he’s like ‘ok i’m on my way’ 

he’s actually very, very intimidated by the sole fact that someone like kenji exists 

that’s because dazai accidentally opened up about his entire life story to kenji after just a few minutes of knowing each other and the fact that kenji hasn’t used it to his advantage frightens him

everyone in the ADA has tried to scare kenji at some point but every single one of them failed

kenji likes giving people cow-print socks on christmas and they look horrendous but everyone wears them

atsushi loves collecting mugs and whenever he buys one, he always buys another one for kyouka

that said, recipes involving mugs and a microwave fascinate him and he tries to make mug cakes as much as he can

kyouka personally isn’t a fan of these mug cakes (she thinks they’re weird) but it makes atsushi happy so she can’t bring herself to say no

atsushi has only said ‘fuck’ once and that was after he was so shocked at hearing kyouka say ‘fuck’ that he just yelled ‘KYOUKA-CHAN SAID FUCK’ only for dazai to go ‘ATSUSHI SAID FUCK’ 

not a good time for fukuzawa and kunikida to come in with a very esteemed visitor

kunikida does a fair amount of yoga to keep himself sane

but he does have a tendency to emit a low-pitch scream when the instructors tell them to let out their worries

he has a book full of crossword puzzles that he likes to work on in his spare time but then one day he came to the office to find that ranpo had filled out every single one

kunikida has never considered punching ranpo but he did for one second

he is ASHAMED of this but he did use his notebook once in a while to make a spare key to his apartment because he keeps losing his keys

jk dazai steals them from him

chuuya makes Really Good Coffee, specializing in drip coffee in particular

the reason why he wears black a lot is because the coffee stains would be less visible

he’s actually REALLY BAD at technology. he’s been so busy working at the mafia that the whole smartphone revolution went past his head but he still only knows how to work a flip phone

yosano sometimes wears a nice dress to work but that’s only when all her other clothes are in the laundry

she actually visits the port mafia casinos quite often and is a sucker for slot machines. she wears a really long coat when she goes to visit and mori was pretty sure he saw her once

yosano definitely saw him and proceeded to hit her head against the slot machine so that she’d look like just another crazy casino-goer

the tanizaki siblings love buying matching phone charms and switching them out every few weeks

they actually rehearsed that part where tanizaki pretended to bomb the agency with a whole script and everything

tanizaki has maybe used his light snow once in a while to skip out on work and play video games in the corner and ranpo noticed but he promised not to say as long as he was in on it

chuuya accidentally called kouyou ‘mom’ at one point and the two of them just stared at each other before swearing to never speak about it again

kouyou has probably used golden snow once in a while to help her dress and she needs help with dressing because she conceals knives everywhere 

the metal detectors light up like a christmas tree whenever she passes by them so no, she doesn’t go to malls much

while elise has a sweet tooth, mori is really into salty food. it’s quite addicting for him actually

for the longest time, people thought that the mug on his desk was full of coffee but no, it’s actually just salted peanuts that he snacks on while doing paperwork

he actually doesn’t know how to play chess. people assume he does because he’s an evil mastermind but mori can’t remember the rules please stop asking him if he can play chess

author’s note: ages are a year younger than canon so ranpo is 25, yosano 24, kunikida & dazai 21, fukuzawa 44, you’re 19, and atsushi and the other younger members are not employed yet

and i guess slight spoilers for the untold origins of the armed detective agency but not really. it’s just a reference to it tbh

their beloved president

going to Sakura’s the next morning wasn’t what Fukuzawa had planned during his week

the reason he was dropping by was to give you money for the sweets you had given ranpo

when he had arrived back at the agency the evening before, he had made a big fuss about you and Sakura’s

he had sparked a lot of people’s interest seeing as ranpo was well invested in whoever you were and what your business was

he wouldn’t stop talking about the “cute and annoying bakery girl” who practically saved the agency simply bc she sheltered him during the rain and fed him and almost got hit by a car for him

i mean, how would the agency survive without ranpo? it was founded to make use of his intelligence and ability after all

the other agency employees exchanged looks and that’s when ranpo tiredly sighed and showed them his phone

on the screen was a contact, yours to be exact, labeled “cute bakery girl” with the note underneath reading “best follower, sweets supply & annoying little kid��

around that time, the president had stepped out of his office to see his employees huddling around ranpo and his phone

he walked over to them and asked what was going on, and seeing the president, ranpo explained what had happened with more details

“so you’re saying that a young girl, 19 years old, nearly got herself run over to shelter you from the rain, gave you food, closed her business early so you could keep talking, and when the rain stopped, she gave you a map and even more food, and even though she may have been inconvenienced, she did not ask for anything back? nor did you offer to give her anything back? even though she relies from the money she earns to survive?

“...maybe.”

after a, private chat with ranpo, fukuzawa ended up saying that he’d go take a visit to Sakura’s first thing in the morning to pay off the sweets that she’d given him by sliding an envelope of money under the door with a note

he initially told ranpo to go back right away (and to bring someone with him this time) but that ended up not pulling through bc ranpo had told him you went to retire for the evening

so yeah

there he was walking towards your bakery when he saw a small black cat with green eyes near the entrance playing with one of the potted plants outside

even though it was small, fukuzawa could tell that it wasn’t kitten due to his love of cats but the cat was still small compared to other adult cats

when he was just a couple feet away from the entrance to your bakery, the black cat took notice of him and walked his way before rubbing itself against his leg

fukuzawa let out a small smile as he bent down to pet the small creature, and the cat gladly ate up all the attention

suddenly the entrance to Sakura’s bursts open, and there you are looking back and forth frantically 

but you soon spot him and the cat and you visibly calm down

the black cat rushed to you and rubbed itself against your leg

it turns out the cat was yours, and you couldn’t find him so you panicked and rushed out the door

from there, you introduced yourself with fukuzawa doing the same

you still had about a little more than forty five minutes til Sakura’s was scheduled to open but you offered fukuzawa to come in anyways

he declined at first, but he gave in when, just how you did with ranpo the day before, you dragged him into your bakery

“you know, fukuzawa-san, this is giving me some major deja vu!”

“it’s because of ranpo i presume.”

“oh! you know ranpo-san?”

when the two of you entered, you rushed to a table and pulled out a seat for him before you disappeared off into the kitchen

just a few minutes later, you appeared with a tray with two steaming mugs, two hot plates of food, and small basket of bread

you set one mug in front of fukuzawa as well as a plate of food while you set the other mug and plate in front of the seat across from him and the basket of bread near the center by the small vase of flowers that you had for a center piece

he gave you a confused look as you sat in front of him and as your cat leaped into your lap

“ah! it’s pretty early in the morning, and you still have to go to work later, so i thought you should at least have a little something before you go. and i didn’t have breakfast yet so i thought it would be nice to have some tea with some company. and i made extras anyways!”

fukuzawa blinked before letting out a small smile and he quietly thanks you

you beam at him and as the both of you begin to eat, you ask him why he’s here this early and how he knows ranpo

with that, the silver haired man addresses your questions and explains the reason why he’s here and how he knows the brown clad male 

after explaining, fukuzawa pulls out the envelope with some money and slides it over to you

you try to reject it, but somewhere in the back of your mind, you’re screaming bc you know you need the money for bills and whatnot

fukuzawa wasn’t very helpful either

“so you’re saying you don’t need the money?”

“...no”

you end up accepting the money much to your inner conscience’s chagrin and to fukuzawa’s inner delight

moving on from that, for the rest of the time he was there—the last 40ish minutes or so—you rambled and talked to fukuzawa like how you did with ranpo the day prior, only this time, with a cat switching his resting point for either yours or fukuzawa’s lap

honestly, you’ve gone through so much deja vu and at this point, you’re not sure if you’re still in reality or not

sometime in your conversation, fukuzawa learned that your cat, ironically, was named lucky

apparently you found him in an alley while you were grocery shopping two weeks ago and since you took him in, you noticed that Sakura’s received a lot of new customers and that a lot of them actually ended up becoming regulars

speaking of the cat, you kept having to stop lucky from eating the food on the table

if fukuzawa was amused from your antics along with lucky’s, he was pretty good at hiding it

you: “lucky you naughty cat! i already told youuu” >:(

lucky: >:3

fukuzawa internally: :) & :D

the two of you had also became well engaged in talking about different kinds of tea, with fukuzawa even complimenting you with the tea you had made for him

it became his favorite <33

you were so happy <3

oop there’s that kid-like behavior again🤭

don’t tell ranpo🤫

scratch that he probably already knows somehow </3

speaking of which, the two of you also talked about the childish detective

it was kind of hard to tell whether or not you were admiring him <3 or insulting and complaining </3 about him lol

“so you’re the president ranpo-san was talking about huh. we talked a lot about his job yesterday! it seems quite exciting! but he talks quite a lot honestly.”

“ranpo talked a lot about you as well”

“ah really?! he can be a bit of an ass, but he really is amazing isn’t he?”

“mhmm”

through fukuzawa, you also learned how the two had first met, and this time, it was hard to tell whether you were amazed or angry at him

“awh that’s so cool!! but for someone so smart, he’s an idiot! what if he got hurt?! it was a good thing you got there huh fukuzawa-san?”

if you thought ranpo was like an older brother figure, you definitely saw fukuzawa as some sort of father figure

he noticed that you started to act like ranpo a little bit

you had developed some sort of attachment to him and when he praised you abt your tea, you had the same glow ranpo has when he gives him praise

not that fukuzawa minds

you’re just another child he’s adopting !! <33

not that either of you knew that hehe >:D

time went by pretty fast and before you knew it, there was only 10 minutes until you were scheduled to open

it was a good thing you had just finished all your prep before fukuzawa arrived

after making a promise with fukuzawa for him to come back again for some more tea, he stood up and made his way to the door as you carefully lifted lucky from your lap so you could quickly wash the dishes and to wipe the table and chairs you used

you offered some baked goods and some tea for to go but fukuzawa declined saying that you needed your supplies for your customers

as soon as you placed lucky on the wooden surface, he bolted to fukuzawa and kept on circling his legs and rubbing against him to stop him from leaving

i guess it turns out you weren’t the only one to get attached to fukuzawa

he couldn’t get even one step closer to the door without lucky reacting and running rapid circles around his legs to get him to stop moving

you didn’t know what to do and you were starting to freak out bc it was almost time to open up, but fukuzawa saved the day and offered to take lucky back with him and promised to take him back the next day

at first, like how you did with the money, you declined but ended up giving in when you saw quite a few of your morning regulars walking down the sidewalk towards Sakura’s for its opening

fukuzawa simply picked up the cat and walked out the door giving you one last wave of good bye

when they left, there was only about 5 minutes left and you rushed to finish the last minute clean up

when fukuzawa arrived at the agency (after a quick stop at home) with a cat in his grasp, let’s just say that quite a few more questions were raised

when asked about the cat, he simply answered that he was cat-sitting for a friend and ranpo knowingly smiled

but he then realized that fukuzawa arrived without any of your signature baked goods and he started complain as the rest of the agency members stared in confusion

with ranpo’s visit, they had quite a few questions, but with fukuzawa’s visit to Sakura’s, their confusion only grew a whole lot more and will continue to keep growing

first time I've ever done something like this lol

Nakajima Atsushi

- most precious kitty

- pretty quiet cat

- might back away when you try to touch him (especially when he doesn't know you yet), but when he let's you, he likes it a lot

- is happy eating the SIMPLEST food like, rice mixed with flavored water? it will be gone in an instant

- plays with most toys, he isn't picky

- he's also pretty passive and plays with the other cats

- except when A-cat-agawa is present, he goes full mini-tiger mode

Dazai Osamu

- very charming cat

- likes being petted

- the laziest cat

- but he is the most annoying one out of all of them

- will knock down your things for no reason, and will stare at you while doing so

- screams at you at 3 am

- will sleep on your laptop and other places he should NOT be sleeping on, no matter how hard you try

- sometimes he disappears tho, but most likely he's outside harassing the Port Mafia cats

- knows the movements of the Rats in your house, might or might not catch them

Kunikida Doppo

- hardworking cat

- catches birds, Rats, and other things

- will get stuff for you if you need them

- more like a dog tbh

- will stay beside you as a sign of affection (just don't touch him)

- he doesn't like being petted in general, but will let you touch his head once in a while

- doesn't play with toys or the other cats (gets easily annoyed when other cats force him do (except maybe the kittens) ESPECIALLY when Dazai-cat is involved)

- gets scared easily. but if there's an unknown probably not living being in your house, he will sleep beside you or the other cats. no exceptions.

- greatest enemy: vacuum cleaner

Edogawa Ranpo

- he's adorable and extremely smart for a cat, and he KNOWS it

- attention whore

- TOUCH HIM he loves it

- picky eater, only give him the best (his favorite is milk, preferrably with a bit of sugar)

- might be diabetic

- he doesn't play with toys or catch smaller animals, he just kinda lies there (laziest cat no. 2)

- the other cats respect him a lot though

- will always manage to find where you hide their food. always.

- he always knows what you're doing and what you'll be doing, so he might interfere when something bad might happen. it's really sweet.

- got of the house once and didn't know how to return. once you brought him home, he never left the house again

Tanizaki Jun-ichiro

- so quiet but oh so adorable

- always with his younger kitty sister

- like Dazai-cat, he disappears too but for some reason, you never know where he is until you call his name

- he just appears along with the other cats when he's hungry or when he feels like it

- once an outsider cat hurt Naomi-cat. Tanizaki-cat came home with the blood of his enemies on his fur.

- he's not that affectionate either, but if you pet him he'll love it

Yosano Akiko

- the cleanest cat, except when there's blood on her fur

- she gets wounds a lot, but the next day they're gone

- actually, all the ADA cats get miraculously healed

- super close with Nyanpo

- sometimes the other cats are afraid of her

- will only allow you to touch her if she likes you

- loves it when you dress her up

- do not mess with her; she will fight a bitch and is very good at doing so

Kenji Miyazawa

- has only two settings: hungry and asleep

- will sleep on anything and anywhere. paper bag, plastic bag, the floor, you clothes, in his food bowl, on the edge of the roof, you name it

- smol kitten and oh so adorable

- manages to knock off very large, very heavy items when he's not careful (it's scary sometimes)

- always in a good mood

- gets along with all cats in the neighboorhood, even the Port Mafia

Izumi Kyoka

- smol kitty too

- always with Atsushi-cat

- she also likes being dressed up (which is a good thing she looks good on anything)

- the most photogenic out of all of them

- likes soft things, especially stuffed toys

- said stuffed toys will always be near her, and she will both play with and sleep on them

- like Nyanpo, likes sweets but at least it doesn't look like she'll be getting diabetes anytime soon
