The survey, which included 154 usable responses from experts in presidential politics, revealed that Trump's average rating was a mere 10.92 out of 100. This placed him well below any other president, with James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, Franklin Pierce, William Henry Harrison, and Warren Harding rounding out the bottom ranks, but none quite reaching the depths of Trump's unpopularity. The survey determined Abraham Lincoln to be the greatest president in American history overall. Regarding the experts polled for the study, the survey notes: "Respondents included current and recent members of the Presidents & Executive Politics Section of the American Political Science Association, which is the foremost organization of social science experts in presidential politics, as well as scholars who had recently published peer-reviewed academic research in key related scholarly journals or academic presses." [...] Even amongst solely Republicans, Trump netted out at number 41 on the list of presidents out of 45 who have served the office. Meanwhile, those who identified as Conservatives ranked Trump 43, while those who identified as independents ranked him dead last at 45, matching his overall ranking. This stands in stark contrast to views of Joe Biden's presidency. The historians ranked Biden the 14th overall greatest president, just a couple of spots behind Bill Clinton (12) and ahead of other more recent presidencies, including Reagan (16), George H.W. Bush (19), George W. Bush (32) and Carter (22). Barack Obama moved up the list to number 7. When asked to identify the most polarizing presidents, Trump once again stood out, being selected by a significant number of respondents as the most polarizing figure in U.S. presidential history. His divisive nature was evident, with experts ranking him far above other presidents like Andrew Jackson, Barack Obama, and Ronald Reagan in terms of polarization. [color emphasis added]

And to think that many Americans want to re-elect the "worst president in history" over the 14th ranked president in history (Biden), according to eminent presidential scholars.

But then again, Fox News buried the lede of this story, so their ignorant MAGA audience will remain ignorant of how presidential scholars perceive Trump:

In an article written about the survey, the network buried the lede, instead writing in their headline, "New presidential rankings place Obama in top 10, Reagan and Trump below Biden," a headline designed to stir outrage amongst their readers. Jimmy Carter decided to die within a month of trump's inauguration as a laugh.

All of his nurses and home health aides were like "No Mr. Carter, please don't die! To die now would begin the mandatory 30 day period of mourning in which our country's flags must be lowered to half mast right before Donald Trump would be inaugurated. It would be incredibly disrespectful and hurtful of you, Mr. Carter, to, in your hundred years of age with frequent health scares, choose to die at such a wildly inappropriate time!"

A message to everyone, but especially my hard-left friends:

Please read this. Two or three times if you must.

I'm pretty hard left by US standards, just plain left by Euro standards - democratic socialist, hell yeah. Do I like Harris? Not much. But as a reminder, if we do not vote for her, this is the shit we have to deal with.

Trump is literally campaigning on rounding up all migrants now - not just "illegal" migrants. And with his deniability regarding Project 2025 in the toilet (he's promised to bring on the plan's architect into his administration day one) we know that denaturalization is on the docket, as is the eradication of all LGBTQIA+ protections and - oh yeah - the concept of democracy itself in the USA.

You can whine about not having a better option (Jill Stein is a Russian asset, don't bring up her fucking name around me) or you can get off your asses, make the tactical vote, and make sure shit doesn't get worse.

If trump wins it's extremely likely he'd get to fill at least TWO MORE supreme court seats.

Clarence Thomas would give up his seat for another million dollar RV. And it's also predicted Samuel Alito would also be willing to give up his seat.

Please watch this video, it explains the issue better than I can. I also am upset at Biden, but it's not just about him. It's the people he can put in power, and stop from being put in power.

I still can't forgive Horikoshi for setting up Hawks to be in the perfect position to change the system and then have him... not do that

Happy Presidents Day! It's time for the results of the annual Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey

So here are the five best and five worst presidents according to the 2024 survey. BTW, Grover Cleveland only gets counted once for this survey.

Here are the historians' collective rankings for the top five and bottom five.

I'm fully in agreement with #1 and #45.

Lincoln, FDR, and Washington are in an exclusive group of greatness by themselves. Trump is in an exclusive group of odium all by himself. The ghosts of James Buchanan and Andrew Johnson are undoubtedly pleased that thanks to Trump, they'll never need to worry again about being considered the worst ever POTUS.

Some other tidbits from the survey.

Jimmy Carter (#22 overall) was chosen as the most underrated POTUS.

John F. Kennedy (#10 overall) was chosen as the most overrated.

The biggest rise in the rankings was by Barack Obama who rose 9 places since 2015.

The biggest decline goes to Andrew Jackson who tumbled 12 places since 2015.

Joe Biden is at #14 overall – in between John Adams and Woodrow Wilson. Though Biden is essentially tied with Adams; both having received scores of 62.66 points.

The ratings average which Republican historians gave to Biden (47.69) was significantly higher than the ratings average which Democratic historians gave to Trump (6.66). No, I didn't make up that 666. 👿

It's only history scholars who participated in this survey. They tend to take a longer view than most of us.

My biggest disagreements are that I would have placed Gerald Ford and John Quincy Adams higher and George W. Bush much lower.

I think I really like soundwin because, well, number one obviously the visuals, but number two, their characterization. Like, initially they're both kind of pricks (but neither of them have bad intentions, they're just hot headed and also like 17 years old), and at no point does that... change? There's no 'redeeming' arc for either of them, but they both do apologize and attempt to get better at communicating.

And then we also get to see the other sides of them - of Sound being soft and Win flirting - and it's like... these guys aren't just one thing. They're multifaceted people and it's just portrayed so well!

And the portrayal of an initially-antagonistic pair getting together and still being antagonistic but working past it together instead of just dissolving all characterization into a heap of fluff?? They continue to tease each other - and even say genuinely hurtful stuff. But they work past it together because they care for each other!! And they understand that the other doesn't always mean what they say!

I just, I don't know they make me emotional sjfkdkfk
